celebrate 710/OIL Day in body, mind, and spirit by: TCB Staff If you are reading this, then you know last year’s OIL Day was kind of a bust, but we got a shot at a better OIL Day this year, and we think it’s time we do things right. For those who are not familiar with OIL Day, it’s a processed cannabis holiday celebrated on July 10 (in the U.S.). For anyone who dabs, uses cannabis oils, wax, shatter, vapes, live resin, terpene extracts, hash extractions, distillates, or concentrates, this is your time to shine. “710” spells “OIL” when you flip it upside down and it’s almost synonymous with “420-Friendly” events, many of which are now “420/710-Friendly”. Using concentrates used to be a rare occurrence, but Cannabis and Medical Cannabis (CB/MCB) have become mainstream. Since California first legalized in 1996, the neverending list of new products has ramped-up dramatically, creating a niche market for those who
On to 710... “710” origins are a bit vague, but did you know that hash oil was developed by the CIA during WWII as a way to interrogate war criminals? Flash-forward to the 1990’s and an article about extracting butane hash oil was published about the same time as the launch of the Cannabis Cup. These two things made concentrates more mainstream. like concentrates over rolling up flower. With that, edibles, drinks and consumables have become a bigger niche market for those who prefer to not smoke CB/ MCB, and it shows no signs of stopping. If anything, the market is growing exponentially. There’s a short history here too. The term “420” started from a police code thought to be tied to marijuana possession or a Bob Dylan song, however, it’s the cop code for “a group of teenagers”. In 1971, a group of
teens in California heard about a nearby abandoned cannabis plant, so every day they met up at 4:20 p.m. to look for it; they never found the plant but decided to use 420 as their secret code to discuss smoking weed. Later, one of the kids met-up with a member of the Grateful Dead who loved it, and the term took off from there. Today, “420-Friendly” refers to a person, a business, and even dating profiles where people are comfortable with others who partake.
The 7/10 holiday traces back to 2012, and we aren’t sure if there was anything specific tied to it, but we endorse anything that makes having fun a holiday. There are some countries that celebrate 710 on October 7, so we wanna support that too. Starting NOW. ORRRRR, We could use the symbolism behind these three numbers to celebrate all that is 710. The number 7 is tied to mysticism, understanding of others, continued on page 5

cannabis could change your career by: Amy Addams are looking for people who care about others, bonus points for folks who took medical or business management classes, and previous retail experience. Check your neighborhood for Help Wanted signs, find out who the busiest dispensaries are, OR print out a bunch of resumes and drop them off with a manager or owner. Many dispensary managers will chat with you even if they are not hiring right now. Useful places to start: In 2019, the cannabis industry took a big hit with low cannacrop yields. People in all facets of cannabis were laid off or let go, creating speculation that the industry was caving in on itself. Then, Covid hit and even MORE workers were let go. What happened next shocked even the most seasoned investment analysts; cannabis BOOMED in 2020. Covid forced many of us to stay home. We got blocked, bored, bummed and baked. And the trend is continuing into 2021. This could be the time to make your career move. All that knowledge you couldn’t share with your momma is now worth something. Oklahomans bought over 200 percent more cannabis in 2020 over 2019 accounting for $808 million in state revenue, providing 6,000 new jobs in the industry. We now have over 16,000 cannabis industry workers and it’s getting bigger every day.
If you would like to get in on the canna-biz, don’t sell yourself short. If you have a broad range of skills in growing cannabis, making drinkables or edibles, processing oils, resins, waxes, or other products, consider looking for employment in processing over working as a budtender. If you have office experience, industry knowledge, have knowledge of the legal aspects of cannabis, don’t sell yourself short; your knowledge could land you in a position of power as a director, manager, or even a VP of a department at a canna-corporation. the business of Cannabis: marketing or advertising: which are you doing? by: Darrell Briggs
When I commenced my first business venture, I often confused my marketing strategy with my advertising plan. Later I learned marketing is what I do to promote my business, while advertising was simply an element of that marketing strategy. Other factors covered under the umbrella of marketing is public relations, media planning, market research, sales strategy, and pricing. Advertising is a precise marketing message used by a company to promote its products and services. Think of it as a way of reaching your target customer with a specific advertising message about your product and/or service. Ad
placement of the advertising message in newspapers, magazines, billboards, or online is a critical part of the advertising process. Each of these channels comes with its own challenges, and its own specific audience. Later, I determined marketing and advertising works together synergistically to help achieve specific sales goals. Marketing consisted of a strategic plan, while advertising was the primary component of that strategy - and usually the most expensive segment of any marketing plan. Today, the term “marketing” is used to cover a vast array of promotional responsibilities including web Mon-Fri 10a-6p Sat 12p-6p

development, public relations, graphic design, social media management, and Search Engine Optimization. Each of these positions are highly specialized, and require unique skill sets to complete them successfully. It is virtually impossible for one person to perform every task required for a successful marketing plan. Remember marketing is a process. A good marketing strategy can be repeated until the desired outcome is achieved, or can it be assessed after a predetermined time to ascertain return on investment (RIO). The cannabis industry poses a whole set of problems not experienced in other
industries. Up until now we have not been able to use television to promote our cannabis businesses. That has now changed and will be covered extensively in next month’s issue of The Current Buzz. If you just can’t wait until next month to learn about how to advertise your cannabis business on television send an email to publisher@ thecurrentbuzz.net, and I will be happy to share that information with you in advance. Remember to advertise different ways on different days to safeguard your success in the business of cannabis.

pot versus pills: let the patient decide by: TCB Staff
My wife recently had substantial shoulder repair surgery. She was prescribed Percocet for pain. Twenty-plus years ago she abused this drug, while under doctor’s care, and had to enter a rehab facility to help with her addiction. Being fearful of relapse, she only used the pain meds as absolutely necessary. As an alternative, she supplemented the Percocet with 30mg Stash Gummies. During her recovery from shoulder surgery, she had to have cataract surgery. For two days prior to her eye surgery, she could not have any cannabis products whatsoever. She had to rely entirely upon the Percocet to alleviate the shoulder pain. This is the only
Healthcare System? He is…and his doctors told him, “if you use cannabis, we will NOT prescribe you ANY pain medication.” The combination of cannabis and a reduced number of pain pills was working well for my 83-year-old father. Yet his pain management doctor told him “You will have to use either cannabis or the pain pills. You choose.”
I think St Francis Healthcare System is more interested in pushing pills than providing the best care for their patients. Their reasoning suggests since cannabis is federally illegal, they cannot condone its use. Yet my family members are living proof the combination of pain medication AND cannabis works best when utilized together as pain treatment.
Forced to choose between using cannabis, as permitted under Oklahoma law, and prescription pain medication, dad chose the latter. He was fearful he would be in gut-wrenching pain without the narcotics he had come to rely upon, and didn’t know if the cannabis alone would not take care of the pain like he needed time I witnessed her actually cry it to. While using cannabis he was able to reduce the number of Norco daily to two.
When will our healthcare professionals embrace what their patients are telling them and allow cannabis use in conjunction with traditional pain medication? Cannabis is a damned plant that NO ONE HAS EVER DIED from its use. Can they say the same thing about their prescribing opioids? Let’s just assume, for a minute, that God’s medication is at least equal to man’s and allow for joint use of prescriptions and cannabis. Can you hear me Oklahoma medical professionals?
