Cannabis is not as good for the environment as you might think (illegal grows are a big part of the problem) by: TCB Staff

You may not believe that environmental issues are real. You may think that global warming is a myth created by liberal communists in a faraway lab run by unicorns, but we aren’t here to argue environmental politics; only provide facts. For all of us who look at cannabis as a movement toward change and enlightenment, take a step back for a moment and look at some industry players who are doing big environmental harms and many use profits to supplement other illegal activities. They are local and national, ruining air, soil, and water, and giving the legal cannabis market a bad name. Water facts: By 2025, 1.82 billion people will be living in ‘absolutely scarce’ water conditions worldwide and 2/3 of the world could face ‘water stress’ – including much of Oklahoma. Some of the water

Illegal grows left unaddressed will eventually lead to local or state government rationing and we could all end up with water bills for hundreds of dollars per month.

scarcity will be from global warming, pollution, runoff from farm and yard chemicals, insecticides, herbicides, and fungicides, but some will be attributable to illegal cannabis grows. If we continue growing marijuana, it could become one of the biggest culprits of water loss and pollution statewide. Illegal grows often overuse chemicals that bleed into soils

while depleting water from streams and waterways. Legal grows have created water problems as well. One plant grown indoors requires about 450 gallons of water per season and requires almost 1,000 gallons for outdoor grows. The U.S. and Mexico use more water per capita than any other countries worldwide.

California is test subject for water as well as weed; Siskiyou County found that illegal grows siphoned off 1.5 to 2 million gallons of unpaid water each day, while 24 streams in three other counties have been bled dry by illegal grows, killing off entire species of salmon and steelhead fish. Oddly, recreational legalization did not reduce water theft, mostly because of expenses that would be incurred. Staying illegal is more profitable than getting right with California. California has been legal since 1996, yet illegal grow activities have skyrocketed. California has lost water flow continued on page 5

continued from cover in 24 streams and rivers, some from overpopulation, but illegal pot farms have been a major problem. Pot sucks. Literally. Weed needs water, LOTS of water. Illegal growers often siphon from farmers who pay for water. Illegal grows also waste water, as has been evidenced in California, Oregon, and Mexico (agricultural water depletion has held back the legalization of cannabis in Mexico for the past decade). Oklahoma now has over 7,000 legal grows while Arkansas has only four. Marijuana growers have moved here from other states, people who were once growing illegally got legal, and farmers switched from corn, soy, or wheat to marijuana.

We love a free market where prices are kept reasonable by competition, but illegal grows often funnel profits into other areas such as heroin, guns, and human trafficking, but imagine where we will be with driedup waterways that we depend on for survival, or water that is unsafe because of chemical contaminants. Those who are growing by the rules have started looking into other means to care for their plants, such as collecting rainwater and using insecticides, fungicides, and grow chemicals that do not have devastating impacts on soils and water tables.

Growing cannabis without going through the legal channels can land you in prison for quite some time, and Oklahoma is not playing around. If you are using a neighbor’s water without paying for it or growing on public land, like federal parklands, your legal troubles could grow faster than your plants. Growing illegal cannabis on federal land will get you federal charges and you

could end up doing hard time in a federal prison. Depleting and polluting our water supply could do more than make showers shorter, they could destroy our state’s beauty, decimate our tourism market, and make soils and water toxic. If we don’t pay attention now, future generations could become the next endangered species.

If you are part of an illegal grow, OMMA is coming for you. for The BLUNT TruTh

joe KNows: show me da bud by: Joe Smith Well, if you have taken my suggestions (and implemented some of them), you should be having a great harvest. Even if you didn’t take my advice, I still hope you have a great harvest. There are a lot of people that say you just can’t grow top shelf cannabis outdoors. While I would not call you stupid for saying that I would disagree with you.

The first are pictures of some of my Afghan Landrace. These buds are super dense and smell great. My first experience with getting to know Afghani Strains was while I was in the Army, and I have had a love affair with it since then. That was many moons ago and it has never failed to please.

Third, you must water correctly. You can’t say, “I give all my plants five gallons a day”. Some of mine get three and some 10, and it’s just not the size of the plant. Yes, size These pictures are of some of my early has something to do with it, but it depends harvest, most of my plants will not be ready When you grow outdoors, it’s a labor of on the plant - some need more water, some for another two weeks. I am the only commercial grower (that I know of) who does a bud wash. It does not matter if you grow indoors or outdoors, the final product is always better when you wash your buds. A lot of us have turned to cannabis for adult ailments because of no insurance, money problems, distrust of docs, or the common problem for many of us nowadays – there is no help. But what about using marijuana as medicine for our kids? No matter your views, there has been promising research in how cannabis can help children, but there are

groups who are very much against it. Finding the right doctor to prescribe cannabis for your kid is only part of the battle; state children service organizations could get into your business, you could have issues finding strains that address your child’s specific problem(s), dosing may take a lot of effort, and there will always be someone vehemently opposed.

What can cannabis do for kids? Epilepsy: Many kids with epilepsy have had miraculous responses to cannabis, even better than the Epidiolex cannabidiol pills derived from marijuana. Low dose (microdosing) marijuana/CBD treatment has been shown to greatly reduce seizures with

Autism: A study in Israel found that children with Autism Spectral Disorder (ASD), especially those with severe ASD, can benefit greatly from medicinal marijuana. Anecdotal stories of autistic children making leaps in improvement have received a spectrum of responses from medical experts, teachers, other parents of autistic kids, and the community, but the results speak for themselves. Autism can cause a child to act out, become violent, have socialization issues, and they can have sensitivities to noise, light, , and too much environmental stimulus. Cannabis oil can reduce the behaviors that keep autistic kids from assimilating as well as enhancing their amazing skillsets that are oftentimes overlooked because of their behavioral impulses or violent

Beyond Brownies: microdosing by Amy Addams Making microdosing edibles: It’s hard to find strains that aren’t advertising their THC levels, but that shouldn’t deter you from making edibles that will work for microdosing. If you’ve made cannabutter in the past, you’ll need to increase the amount of butter or reduce the amount of cannabis. The usual formula is one ounce cannabis to one pound butter, so you decrease your THC levels by 50 percent with every subsequent pound of butter you use (while keeping your flower quantity the same). You can’t over mix your ‘concentrate-butter’. 3. Put the butter in the fridge for later or use it in your recipe, keeping in mind that you don’t want to use too high heat or you’ll break down the terpene chemistry. 4. If you need to melt the butter again, use very low heat. Options for extending your cannabis concentrates go beyond butter; use a kitchen oil like olive oil for savory recipes, canola or vegetable oil for cooking or baking, or coconut oil for anything, including topicals, remember that your heat should stay under 212 degrees F for optimum effect. You may want to place the vial or syringe in a cup of hot water to help its viscosity and control your dosing. Do not add water to concentrates or RSO; you’ll be mixing oil and water and get a mess. And, of course, you can always use less of your concentrate to lower your dose, keeping in mind that you need to stir your recipe more than you normally would, but microdosing is all about 1-5 mg THC per serving.

Allow to cool in the fridge for 30 minutes. Divide the THC by the number of gummies. If you used 200 mg THC and made 48 gummies, each gummy will have 4.16 mg THC. If you want to dose 2 mg THC, cut the gummies in half. To keep the gummies from sticking together, you can roll them in a half-and-half mix of flour and powdered sugar or granulated sugar. Clearly label and store your gummies away from kids and animals in a cool, dark place.
