state question 806 poised to change oklahoma’s fate
recreational marijuana By: TCB Staff
It’s the moment we all waited for – Question 806, legalization of recreational marijuana is finally upon our doorstep for 2020. It looks like the real deal is here. So, are we ready? What you need to know about legalized recreational:
2. Anyone who wants to buy recreational weed will have to be 21 or older. It will likely be handled similarly to alcohol. DUI vigilance may increase at first, so we will all have to be careful not let DUI’s increase. Stay home, order Domino’s, behave. 3. We don’t know who will be selling RMJ, but it makes sense that dispensaries will have it. Will RMJ be as potent as MMJ? We aren’t sure yet.
Marijuana are NOT going to be the same. Recreational users will not be treated with the same care as Medical users. There will be fines and tickets for violations like smoking in public, growing weed in an unlocked area or carrying excessive amounts around. Given how these were jailable offenses just last year, it’s a good start.
6. As tempting as Black Market may be, there isn’t a lot that recommends it. It also tells 1. There will be a 15% STATE lawmakers that we won’t excise tax on recreational weed/ 4. After you’ve voted on 806, meet them in the middle. you will need to pay attention flower/whatever. Local taxes Scream at me all you want but to who you vote into Congress, are likely to be added to that. look how far Oklahoma has Our guess is that the tax rate for Senate, Governor; every one come in less than 10 years. of these offices has the power recreational will be around 22California has a monumental to take your rights away with 28% after everyone gets their problem because of Black their vote or the stroke of a piece of the pot tax pie. Watch pen. It takes only a few minutes Market weed, dispensaries your local and state leaders’ and pop-up grow ops. Bad to learn about your politicians actions versus what they weed full of toxic chemicals, and their beliefs. They will vote claimed they were spending disreputable dispensaries that based on their history more than our tax money on (the taxes are don’t care what they sell, and promises. Pay attention. supposedly going toward drug sick customers have caused all rehab, prevention, MORE Act kinds of problems, making the 5. The rules for Medical record expungement; it didn’t Cali state tax escalate higher Marijuana and Recreational pass the Senate vote).
for 2020 to hire people to chase Black Market guys down and keep people safe to get high another day. Imagine if there was a beer that made people sick. We would shut the state down. Fight for your right to weed-up, but not at the risk of toxic chemicals and heavy metal contaminants. From what we know, the vote will be on the November ballot, so you have time to read up. SQ806 will need 178,000 signatures to be on November’s ballot, but they must obtain those signatures in 90 days after approval. To find out when the petition is ready or add your name to the roster, go to sos.ok.gov/documents/ questions/806.pdf. Read the pdf so you know what you are signing up for as well. As soon as we hear about signing the petition, we will let you know. Until then, learn your politics. It could change your life.

Carbon Dioxide ENRICHMENT • The air today has a natural CO2 concentration level of 350~400ppm. Plants have ability to consume up to 1500 ppm of CO2. • Supplementing CO2 can increase yield and growth by 20% or more. • When using high powered lights, CO2 supplementation increases plants ability to photosynthesize. • Adding CO2 can make plants more resistant to heat and light stress. • CO2 burners emit other gases during combustion that can be detrimental to plant health. A steady supply of CO2 gas is the most effective method for carbon dioxide supplementation.

Carbon Dioxide EXTRACTION • CO2 is known as a “tunable solvent” making it extremely versatile for creating a multitude of end products by controlling temperature and pressure. • Carbon Dioxide is cleaner, more efficient and less expensive than other chemical solvents. • Minimal extraction times and higher yields. • Non-beverage grade CO2 can contain high levels of sulfur, benzene, acetaldehyde, ammonia and other impurities that effect product quality. • A steady supply of beverage grade CO2 gas is the most effective method for carbon dioxide supplementation. • ZERO residual solvent content as CO2 evaporates away.

You will also need to report to Oklahoma Department of Agriculture (www.ag.ok.gov/ cps) and the Oklahoma Tax Commission (www.ok.gov/tax), but you also have to register with the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics & Dangerous Drugs Control (www.ok.gov/obndd). If all of this is confusing, did you keep records of what you did in 2019? If the answer is ‘no’, you are not ready for the big time. Every MMJ grower has some sort of recordkeeping system on how they got to harvest. OMMA will require you to be organized, have tax records ready, be able to pay your taxes on time and to show what you did all season. If writing things down seems dumb, you missed the point, and this is not for you. There are companies that sell software just to help you record your growing season, stay legal and maximize profits. If you got your OMMA card and skipped right on to your local dispensary with stars in your eyes, congratulations. For many Okies, the entire MMJ thing is a black cloud of confusing scary stuff. It’s getting those people onboard with the new wave of medical care that’s the issue. Many people are still lost. What’s on the market if you are new to this and don’t want to learn how to roll a joint or smell marijuana in your house? We
have some ideas to get you started… The edible world has gone a little crazy. Everything from ice cream to meat rubs can be had if you are willing to give it a try. If you are new, we suggest you go simple. Don’t let all the different options distract you from your goal.
relief, but it is very wasteful. Much of the value is lost via smoking a joint and using a bong (or water pipe) is better, especially for asthma sufferers. Unless you are a non-smoker.
Vaping was popular (and still is for many despite the bad press), but it requires a vaping rig to heat the oil to a proper temperature. A good vape pen will cost a few bucks ($30-$50) If you smoke marijuana to get but it’s a one-time investment. it into your system, that is the most common method of getting Buy a good one and save
yourself the headaches later. There is smoke involved, so if you don’t want to smoke, leave this option out too. Oral consumption, such as pills and liquids have become popular recently. Effects can take 30 minutes to a hour but unlike edibles the effects are quicker to happen and the liver converts THC to 11-hydroxyTHC (more psychoactive than THC) making the effects different from smoking or sublingual (see below). What makes pill form easy is knowing what will happen and when, just like with other medications. The effects of pill form marijuana last longer than smoking. Sublingual/oromucosal delivery is an easy method for rapid effect, in other words, tincture is easy to use and recently, it has gained popularity with syrups, sprays, droppers all available to the non-smoker who wants immediate action without smoke. At most, you need a spoon. Be warned that some syrups are very sweet (if you have sugar issues), and some tinctures are not tasty (follow-up with water to wash the taste out of your mouth). Edibles/Medibles such as brownies, cookies, candies, gummies, teas and coffee (to name just a few) are all over the place these days. There are so many options, we could fill this
cannabis culture whole magazine with what’s out there and not do them all justice. But there is one candidate that rises above them all: CANNABUTTER. Cannabutter is often the base for most edibles and we love that it can be the start for you cooks who want to give MMJ a try. For now, try someone else’s stuff and see if edibles are for you. When you think you are ready, grab a bit of cannabutter and sparkle your toast like a champ. Synthetic MMJ: Yeah, we have to cover it. Marinol and Nabilone, Levonantradol, Ajulemic Acid (CT3) and HU308 are out there or under development as are dermal patches. The patches are showing promise. Rimonabant is another drug developed as a cannabinoid antagonist to combat obesity, but it was a big flop. There is still hope that it will have applications elsewhere later. Synthetic marijuana hasn’t shown a lot of promise overall, but maybe in time. Many scientists want it to succeed for children to be able to benefit, especially kids with cancer and epilepsy.

I’m not a big fan of sitting on the couch watching cartoons and I’ve found that taking a ¼ teaspoon of what I call ‘cough syrup’ every 2-4 hours is easier than a full teaspoon every 6-8 hours.
One thing we have to mention is that if you have a pre-existing heart condition and you think you are having a greenout, get it checked. There have been some patients who have experienced cardiovascular malfunctions from MMJ use. Better safe than sorry.
Overall, starting with 5mg THC or CBD to start (unless you’ve been told differently) for your first dose is a safe bet. Edibles take longer to work than other delivery methods (can take up to 2 hours to work) so until you know how you respond, go slow and take notes.

Box and accessories aside, I was surprised by the overall form factor of this little device. It is about the size of a large ball point pen, but it feels solidly constructed and has a bit of heft that is confidence inspiring. I don’t suspect you could wield it in battle, but I doubt a few dings would slow it down. After a quick charge, I screwed the atomizer assembly on the battery, opened the chamber, and scooped a bit of ground up herb. Puff… puff… nothing. Ok, so maybe I should have read the directions. That leads me to my one and only real complaint with this device; no instructions were provided.
I must admit this is my first dry herb vaporizer. However, I suspect many new users will be drawn to such a convenient device and a few quick pictographs even would be appreciated. A quick internet search quickly got me back on track though. After learning that you need to actually use the carburetors on the sides and not compact the flower so much in the chamber, I was off and puffing happily away. I have been using the Evolve-D for a few days now, and it is quickly becoming my favorite grab-and-go cannabis accessory. It comes in a variety of colors and it retails for $34.50. Its sleek design, durable construction, and ease of use makes this device a winner in my books.

glaucoma and medical marijuana by Micah Rodriguez Clogged Trabecular Meshwork Iris
Damage to the Optic Nerve
Lens Build Up of Aqueous Humor Fluid New year, new resolutions to not follow through, and new things to be aware of! January is Glaucoma Awareness month, which is a bigger name on the list of medical conditions cannabis may be able to treat. Glaucoma is an incurable disease characterized by the buildup of pressure in your eye (intraocular pressure, or IOP), leading to potential damage to the optic nerve (responsible for sending pictures to our brain), vision loss, or complete blindness if left untreated. For many, this pressure can cause terrible pain as well. Over 3 million, or roughly one out of every 100 Americans live with glaucoma. Many forms of medication have been manufactured for symptom
relief associated with glaucoma, but as with many medications, it is not a “one medication fits all” scenario. Due to a growing acceptance and access across the nation, more patients are looking to medical marijuana as an alternative for help with their problems. Studies on marijuana’s medical benefits on IOP began during the 70’s and concluded that smoking marijuana cigarettes was not a safe way to remedy glaucoma symptoms, with later studies in 1998 and 2002 confirming previous findings that smoking marijuana joints was not a viable treatment. The risks included pulmonary and heart disease from smoking and addiction. Other undesired

and effects of the plant, and many new and safer ways to consume nature’s gift, there is no need to keep patients from aid. Glaucoma is a lifechanging disease. Why let outdated and biased studies affect our population’s wellness?
More recent studies, and a look at the former’s methods and materials, show that these previous studies may have been prone to bias and the materials used did not hold up to the current averages of cannabinoids found in plants. Previous studies used joints weighing at .5-.9 grams, and the percentages of THC being tested were around 0.9-3.0% during that time period. With THC averages in the 20% range and some strains testing over 30%, more research into other cannabinoids like CBD, CBG, and terpenes, the findings from these previous studies are now archaic. Not to mention, many medical marijuana studies were stymied until recent years, which meant no more progress was to be made in tandem with the sticky icky’s evolution. However, the laxing restraints around cannabis in today’s environment is opening many doors for the advancement of its study and patients seeking alternative care. Cannabis lowers the buildup of IOP, and in patients with pain, can act as a pain reliever. With record-breaking percentages, deeper research into the different components
As stated early, cannabis is a medication and should be treated as such. Talk to your doctor about any concerns or problems that arise while using it to treat your symptoms. The ever-growing list of available strains can be both daunting and confusing. Picking the right strain is a personal journey; just like with other meds, there is no “one-strain-fits-all” strain. There are, however, some strains that can point you in the right direction to finding the perfect strain for your glaucoma. Maui Waui is a sativa dominant strain originating from Hawaii and will leave the user with feelings of a beach vacation. Though sativa dominant, Maui Waui eases aches and pains nicely. Paired with mental clarity and a slight energetic buzz makes it a great choice for daytime use. Maybe it’s time to do that laundry? When looking for a great nighttime strain for glaucoma, look no further than Blueberry. This Indica dominant strain can produce a sedative effect that is perfect for winding down after a long day and looking to really crack down on that pain management. R+R is the name of the game with this strain.

UNCLE FUDGE’S FAVORITES for patients - the high isn’t the solution I stumbled onto some medicine recently at Great American Strains dispensary in Skiatook. Explaining to the budtender working there I was tired of feeling extremely high, fatigued and hungry every time I selfmedicate for my back pain. My grocery bill is getting so high I am going to have to sign up for food stamps. The young man working behind the counter explained to me what a low dose THC, coupled with a high dose of CBD, could possibly do for my pain. Now I never tried to buy any pot that wouldn’t get me higher’n a giraffe’s ass. If I did buy some that didn’t get me really high, I was pissed off and would have taken it back. But this kid had something in his voice that made me listen to what he was saying. He explained

Try some of the 1:1 THC/ CBD strains. Not only can it help with pain, but you might be able to remember some of the new year’s resolutions you make!
I thought what the hell?! “Give me some of them buds that you’re talking about.” If it doesn’t help I don’t have to buy it again. Guess what? I did buy it again. For pain relief I have been using a flower grown by Shiboli Farms out of

on the national front: more act is doa or at least on life support by Amy Addams needs to sign the petition to see SQ806 on November’s ballot AND you need to vote for your next president, senators and congressmen/women. You hold the power to change the way things are done. And over 70 percent of America thinks it’s time to legalize marijuana.
Congress passed the MORE Act in November, then Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell squashed it like a cockroach. It got little fanfare with the Impeachment hearings. What would have made Donald Trump and the Republican Senate the heroes of this story have fallen into the abyss to be just another story that never was. As part of the national effort to stop the skewed incarceration of minorities, the passage of the Secure and Fair Enforcement (SAFE) Banking Act by a vote of 321 to 103, the MORE Act (we covered this in December and November of last year, see ‘more’ on www.thecurrentbuzz. net) seemed like the next logical step to stop the madness. The Act would add a five percent tax to marijuana sales nationwide, allowing the MORE
Act to help those who have been unfairly beaten by the legal system because they were caught with small amounts of marijuana and given extreme prison sentences, but it would have done so much for the economy and our prison system. Mitch McConnell has stopped the MORE Act before the Senate even got a look at it, but it would have been DOA either way. The Republican-heavy Senate wants no marijuana in the U.S. to be legal, at least federally. End of story. Or is it? The biggest factor in any government decision is financial. And let’s face it, marijuana is a gold mine. Future revenue from marijuana sales could net the U.S. Government at least $5 BILLION over the next 10 years by conservative estimates. It’s a shame that

Japan is one of those countries where marijuana is highly illegal. cannabis commerce
the business of Cannabis:
You reap what you sow
by Darrell Briggs
What is going on within the Oklahoma medical cannabis industry? What can we expect to happen in the coming months? Is there is anything we can learn from other states, particularly from Oregon? Here are my personal thoughts on this subject: Having no cap on growers’ licenses mandates there will soon be a colossal surplus of cannabis in Oklahoma. Due to this surplus both wholesale AND retail cannabis
prices will drop substantially. With a dispensary on every corner of most Oklahoma cities, many dispensary owners will resort to competing on price in hopes to sell more cannabis to make up for lost revenue. Many growers and dispensaries will begin to fail in the next couple of years. We are already seeing this in many areas, especially in the metropolitan areas of Oklahoma. Top-shelf flower and premium extracts will become the norm instead of the exception as
growers and processors learn more about their respective crafts. Patients will soon come to expect the very best cannabis products at reasonable fair market prices. Why do I believe this is going to happen? The State of Oregon legalized recreational cannabis Nov. 4, 2014. On July 1, 2015 Oregonians could start purchasing the cannabis legally. Things went very well initially, but soon cannabis prices began to drop. The price of a gram
went from $10 to $5 between October 2016 and December 2018. A pound of average sungrown cannabis was selling for an average of $350 wholesale. By January 2019, Oregon state officials stated cultivators had amassed more than 1.3 million pounds of cannabis, which is alarming when you take into account Oregonians utilize only 300,000-350,000 pounds of cannabis annually. So, what do we learn from Oregon? For one they placed

no boundaries on cultivation licenses. Too many growers were awarded licenses than could be sustained by the lawful marketplace. Soon the growers’ challenges encompassed the dispensaries, who encountered plummeting profit margins and rivals on every corner in every city.
So what does all of this mean to Oklahoma cannabis businesses? For one we should focus on obtaining the highest quality cannabis products available. Prices for superb flower and first-rate extraction products aren’t quite as vulnerable to market instabilities.
The same thing that happened in Oregon is now beginning to happen in Oklahoma. However, in Oklahoma it could end up being much worse than it was in Oregon. It is easier to obtain a grow license in Oklahoma than it was in Oregon, and there are far less regulations for Oklahomans than there was for Oregon growers.
If you’ve never operated a fullfledged business before, now is not the time to start. If you don’t have business experience that doesn’t mean you can’t succeed, it just means you need to have advisors or team members that have substantial prior business experience.
Secondly, we should remember that cannabis is a business, Here is something else to think and sound business practices about: there are more licensed are applicable no matter what growers in Oklahoma than there product you are selling. It are in Oregon. Notwithstanding is well advised to find good the fact that Oklahoma is a legal and financial consultants medical use only state whereas to act as advisers for your Oregon is a recreational use business. Many businesses state. The limited number of will fail because of compliance potential cannabis users is difficulties and poor tax vastly different in Oklahoma planning. Your network is than it is in Oregon. Simply invaluable in the cannabis put there just aren’t as many industry. customers in Oklahoma.
Lastly, to survive in the Oklahoma cannabis marketplace you must use proven branding and marketing practices. This methodology will drive business development and help your business stand out from others in the market. Investing in building a valuable brand, and expert marketing, will be the single most valuable component to your long-term success in the cannabis industry. Here are a few tips to help you get started: 1. Create and make use of a varied merchandise line to support awareness and brand evangelism. 2. Cultivate community goodwill by aligning your cannabis business with a charitable organization.
At The Current Buzz we concentrate on high-quality content as our primary marketing tool. Our goal is to focus on telling the stories of the people behind and in front of their products, rather than simply talking about the products themselves. Educating our readers promotes trust and eases their path to purchase cannabis products. A well implemented branding and marketing strategy should not be a reaction to poor market conditions. The strategy should be used to get ahead and stay ahead of the impending market fluctuations. Marketing is the one sure thing that will help your business thrive and continue to grow while many others are closing their doors.
3. Concentrate on specialization. What is your brand’s story? What is it about your business that makes you different from everyone else in the cannabis industry?
