JUNE covid news you can use

(good stuff as it pertains to medical marijuana) By: TCB Staff

Hey fellow tokers, vapers, bakers and everyone who partakes to address medical needs: We wanted to address your concerns during this Covid-19 crisis, but we only wanted to give you data that matters to you and your marijuana use. We are not here to talk about C19 deaths, destruction, politics, or whirled peas. Nope. Not happening. That’s what the nightly news is for. Here’s stuff you need to know: 1. If you are using marijuana and don’t have a card, the local police are still arresting folks (even little old ladies!), but the caveat is that the courts are closed as of this writing so your wait to see a judge could be a looooong one. We will suggest you rectify that card issue immediately. It’s cheaper than ever and you just got a $1,200 stipend to get started, so stop playing games with your freedom. The list of medical reasons you can carry are long, you should no longer be illegal. Stop with the excuses. 2. If you DO happen to get arrested, Covid is rampant in the prison system. It’s as bad as athlete’s foot. Worse, if you smoke cigarettes, have other health issues, or tend to worry a lot, you are cruising for a

big date with it. Let’s just avoid the whole mess, Okay? Besides, getting busted could eat through your entire gubmint stipend and then some. Think about THAT! No one will take pity on you for being a ding-dong. 3. Good news! There are federal agencies looking into the effects of MMJ on C19! It appears that U.S. and Canadian researchers are being paid big bucks to see what the short- and long-term impacts of marijuana are on Covid-19 symptoms. Both countries are taking different approaches to their research, but NIDA in the U.S. is offering $100,000 per year to see if any hope exists. Only downside is that the research must be completed in two years. If anything good comes of this, we think it will lead to faster federal legalization. 4. Did you know that people are drinking more? Yeap, it’s true. BUT, what’s weird is that crime around dispensaries is ridiculously low compared to liquor and tobacco stores. So, all that talk about how marijuana would bring the ‘criminal element’ around? No, it appears you are more likely to commit crime for a cigarette or a beer than a joint. Go figure! continued on page 6

are good for those of us who fear the Sativa.

The new

normal? by Amiea Eleban

Man, remember last year when we were worried about getting the new iPhone? What the HELL happened? Where did we take that wrong turn and end up down this horrible alley with scary dudes that want to steal our stuff and beat us up? Fear has become part of our everyday lives. Kids are wondering why their parents are home more, we are all upset about our schedules being changed, money, family members getting sick, the list is so long! There is a way to address it with marijuana, but NOT the way you might be thinking. If anything, you may be using marijuana counter to the way you should in order to address your fear and only making it worse. Studies have shown that the new medical marijuana is pretty potent stuff; it’s great for nausea, pain management and

cancer, but for everyday stuff like fear, it’s a bit over the top, at least in the quantities being used today. If you are using MMJ to relax, some things to consider:

3. If you are using MMJ, cut your dosing WAY back. You only need a little to get full effect. Give it a little time to kick in. Marijuana is not always ‘more is better’, if anything, you could green-out, which makes things worse. There are many who go crazy with dosing. Slow down for a while. 4. Try a new way to consume your MMJ. Edibles are tricky things and some folks have experienced nothing one time and insanity the next. Try vaping or smoking to get a little bit into your system. If edibles are your only method of ingesting, be sure you know if you are consuming a Sativa or Indica.

Page 7 As for all of us, MMJ has its place in helping us deal with our fears. We applaud you for addressing your fear and doing something to medicate. We want you to do something more than address your mental health with MMJ, fellow Okies. You must add to your regimen with regular sleep times, try to get some form of exercise, watch your sugar, processed food and alcohol intake, do all you can to get water in your daily routine, and do something that makes you happy every day. Color in a coloring book, play with your dog, do a crossword puzzle, watch a favorite TV show, take a nap or just watch the grass grow, but do something that keeps you in the here and now. If you are having dark and scary thoughts that you recognize as not normal, call your doctor immediately, or call the National Suicide Prevention Hotline: 1-800-273-8255. Many local Health Departments have links to help you back to feeling okay too. They can be found in your local phone book’s blue pages.

5. We suggest that if you are having too many unpleasant mental episodes that you get out 1. Are you using a Sativa, and get some exercise. It can be Indica or Hybrid? seeding love: do your plants need quarantine? by Amy Addams

If you are new to the grow your own thing and you went out into the big world of buying established plant clones, we have to warn you off of throwing them in with your self-started seedlings. If you have ever had a fish tank, you’ll know that a new fish coming from an unknown location can introduce a disaster to a formerly happy tank. The same can happen with a closed system of homegrown

medical marijuana. This is not the old-timey ‘throw some seeds down and see what happens’ world of pot growing. We’d like to share some tips we found to prevent a disaster:

2. If this seems a bit involved (and it is), an off-site quarantine is the next-best option. Some folks put the new plants close to, but not in with the existing grow. That’s a bit of a risk and we are not fans of this. If you have a pest or disease problem on the new plant, you’ll infest your entire grow. 3. If you can do so, have new plants lab tested for powdery mildew and for pests. Check for eggs, larvae and fecal matter. Broad and Russet mites can destroy your entire grow operation.

1. While it might be a bit much for the home grow, the best thing is to use a tissue culture to see if every plant is clean. This 4. If you do have an outbreak, is called meristem culture. the ONLY option is an entire destruction of all plants, disinfect your entire grow space and start over, AFTER you have saved specimens (IF that is even possible). Sorry.

5. Another infection entry point can be fresh air intake. Oklahoma is chock full of bugs. Use bugs screens at minimum and UV sterilizers are a better bet. HEPA filters are also recommended for incoming air. Filtering recycled air in closed areas will control mildew and mold. 6. If you are using recycled wastewater or catching rainwater, watch your pH and nutrient loads as well as the amount of pollution coming in with the water. You might be saving a few dollars but it makes

no sense. This method could make your medical marijuana useless on the open market if it carries heavy metals, pollutants or high levels of acidity. Be sure to filter/sterilize your water by reverse osmosis or by using a UV sterilizer. 7. Do not dispose of anything from your grow. Sort, dry and pack away everything, ensuring that everything is dry before storing out of heat and light. Oxygen-free containers at subzero temperatures are your best bet for more than six months of storage. 8. You do not need a Biology degree to do this, but you DO need to be willing to learn from past mistakes, ask questions, use common sense, read books and take notes on past successes and failures. We tell you this horrible story not to scare you (well, maybe we want to scare you a little), but your entire season can go up in a matter of days from introducing one plant without the proper precautions. It is often the poorly thought-out decontamination plans that get you, not the grow plans and perfect lighting, fertile soils and humidity. Next Month: GENETICS. How to get what you want from your plants to get the end result you were hoping for.

Carbon Dioxide ENRICHMENT • The air today has a natural CO2 concentration level of 350~400ppm. Plants have ability to consume up to 1500 ppm of CO2. • Supplementing CO2 can increase yield and growth by 20% or more. • When using high powered lights, CO2 supplementation increases plants ability to photosynthesize. • Adding CO2 can make plants more resistant to heat and light stress. • CO2 burners emit other gases during combustion that can be detrimental to plant health. A steady supply of CO2 gas is the most effective method for carbon dioxide supplementation.

Carbon Dioxide EXTRACTION • CO2 is known as a “tunable solvent” making it extremely versatile for creating a multitude of end products by controlling temperature and pressure. • Carbon Dioxide is cleaner, more efficient and less expensive than other chemical solvents. • Minimal extraction times and higher yields. • Non-beverage grade CO2 can contain high levels of sulfur, benzene, acetaldehyde, ammonia and other impurities that effect product quality. • A steady supply of beverage grade CO2 gas is the most effective method for carbon dioxide supplementation. • ZERO residual solvent content as CO2 evaporates away.

if you can’t find the meds you need, maybe you can instead use

weed? by Amy Addams

When the Coronavirus first came to our shores, there was a lot of talk about what we would be doing here in the U.S. about food, safety, toilet paper and medicine. As you may have experienced, many people went a little overboard with the stockpiling for the end of the world only for it never to arrive. Could we be facing shortages ahead? If so, would MMJ be an alternative to some medications? We are not telling you to throw away your heart medicine or

thyroid pills, but there are a lot of doctors that are doing indepth research on what MMJ can do to help patients in times of need. We think the Covid 19 crisis has taught all of us that we need to be more vigilant about our options where our medical care is concerned, pay attention to our natural remedy options, and to not get so focused on the chemical cures we’ve allowed science to push on us over the last century or so. Turns out, marijuana has many uses and we shouldn’t be so quick to dismiss it as useless.

Some things marijuana can be used for: • Anxiety • Alzheimer’s • Cancer • Crohn’s Disease • Epilepsy • Glaucoma • Inflammation • Mental Health Issues (including Schizophrenia and PTSD) • MS • Muscle spasms • Nausea • Pain

In times like these, finding your prescriptions can be a real pain, literally. Some people in Oklahoma who live with chronic pain, even from cancer, can only get one week of pain medication at a time, but to be out during the Covid pandemic is truly life-threatening. Some pharmacies are unable to stock all medications because supply chains are slow or doctors’ offices have shut down, leaving some people in desperate situations. If this describes you, consider a medical marijuana card. Even if you never use it, you will have peace of mind

Cleanliness and the New World by Amy Addams If you are a processor, you are already thinking about how you’ll keep your facility clean, but no matter what you do in this industry, it’s a constant nagging in the back of your mind. Cleanliness has become not ‘a thing’, it is the ONLY THING. But how do we address cleanliness in this world of misinformation, false information, fake news and over-reacting to everything? The answer is simple. Go to the source. We went out to multiple government health agencies to find out what it takes to protect your products, your staff and yourself against Covid-19: 1. You should pay attention to clean surfaces with the usual cleaning supplies. Antibacterial cleaners work fine. You will want to change out your sponges or use fresh cleaning materials weekly. 2. Wash your hands regularly. Hand sanitizer is not better than soap and water but if that is all you have use it. 3. You may need to create a Cleaning Schedule for areas that you previously cleaned less often. A weekly cleaning schedule may have to be done daily until we have more understanding of Covid-19. 4. If you serve raw foods, you will want to wash them carefully, but if you cook food, you will not need to do anything extra to your food prep other than making sure you are not sampling your food and returning the spoons to the pot or pan as you prepare it. 5. Clean places around your workspace like door and cabinet handles, light switches, phones, faucets, toilet handles, desks,

computer equipment, fans along with countertops and sinks. 6. It is recommended that you clean with soap and water then use a disinfectant. If your cleaner kills the human coronavirus (Lysol and Clorox say they do the job), you should be in the clear. You want to use disposable gloves when you clean and use disposable cleaning rags like paper towels. TIP 1: Read and follow the directions on the cleaning product label. Some will tell you to leave a cleaner on a surface for up to 15 minutes. Some older stainless appliances and marble countertops should not be left wet that long. The EPA has a timetable for how long a surface should be left wet by cleaning agent and virus (not a pleasant thought, but useful). It can be found at: https://www.epa.gov/pesticide-registration/ list-n-disinfectants-use-against-sars-cov-2 TIP 2: As silly as this may seem, some folks do not know that many cleaning agents do not mix. For example, NEVER mix ammonia and bleach. There are many cleaning products that have one or the other as an active ingredient. You don’t want to die from toxic cleaning supplies. TIP 3: Pay attention. Learn all you can from CDC, EPA, your local health department, state agency and National Institutes of Health. Do a Google search on Coronavirus weekly and set-up your internet to alert you when new data is released on ‘cleaning and Coronavirus’ and ‘how to clean for Covid-19’. Learn everything you can from every source. Your health is too important.

The legal stuff: what covid-19 is doing to your rights by Amiea Eleban If you are busy worrying about paying your bills, buying food and wondering if you will have a job, you are not alone. The U.S. unemployment numbers are very scary right now. People are worrying about their daily needs and have no time to think about other peoples’ problems. But now is the best time to think about some of the things that the government WANTS to sweep under the rug, namely marijuana legalization, the overincarceration of people on nonviolent marijuana possession charges, and holding charges that many poorer Americans are being locked up under because they cannot make bail while our courts remain closed.

We do not advocate for dangerous criminals to be released without serving their punishment, but there are still so many people right here in Oklahoma who go to jail every day for minor infractions like marijuana possession. And it’s a poor man’s crime. Many richer people are let out because “He can’t be incarcerated, he has a bright future, it’ll ruin him.”

People all deserve fair treatment under the law. No matter who they are. Our non-violent offenders should not be forced to sit in lock-up, waiting for trial because they can’t make bail, especially during the Covid outbreak. mmj and the high-tech world by Amy Addams need that, smell the sarcasm), teas and other infused drinks. Adding canna-oils into anything water-based, including humans (we are 70 percent water) will make cannabinoids processed so much better by our systems.

We know for some of you, this is a snooze fest, but the medical weed world is full of technology and if you want to get in on it, you might want to learn a few techie terms. We promise to not throw too many at you at once, but it can’t hurt you to learn a few while we’re all locked away from civilization.

legalizing at the federal level too. The federales can’t cry that MMJ has no real value because, HUZZAH, each blend is made for each person. Can’t get no more medically special than that. Heck, that beats most heart, pain and depression medicines out there today.

Because MMJ is psychoactive Here’s a few you can throw and each person has a different around at your next fancy dinner history of use, marijuana party: tolerance, pain tolerance, mental tolerance and so many DNA Sequencing: you only other factors and variables, your need to know that what makes unique vape could be a one-hit this technology so cool is that wonder of epic experience. a few companies will soon have the tech to blend the best Nanoencapsulation: this is of THC and CBD that your a term you’ll want to know, body’s biochemistry needs. especially if you use oils, as only Imagine picking out a blend 20 percent of them are actually of oils that matches to your used by your system. App-Based Retail: this one creeped us out a little, maybe because we’re old and still used to the old days of buying weed in a dude’s smelly basement, but its legalization has led to major changes in how we buy nowadays in a bright sunny store where we used to go to get our nails done or to buy video games, JP. Even though Oklahoma isn’t there yet, we may be ordering online and getting our own “Door Hash”

in another couple of years, so keep an eye out. Lighting Advancements: If you plan to do an indoor grow, you might have a minor heart attack when you see the cost of lighting systems for indoor grows, but don’t let the cost of LED’s scare you off. The savings in your electric bill will make them worth every cent. They burn cool, use fewer bulbs and provide wider spectrum your plants need than the oldfashioned grow lights. Take the chance and invest in a newfangled grow lighting system. Just the savings to your air conditioning bill is worth the money.

no more covid talk...

ready for a hero? we got one by Amy Addams

Willie Nelson

Okay, y’all, I am sick to the gills of Coronavirus talk (not punning here, I just am). We need a hero, somebody who don’t give a good fiddle what nobody thinks, ain’t got no politics to throw at us, no secret bunker where they are beating their exwife, ain’t sellin’ us some crap plastic gadget that some kid in a third world country made or that was tested on clubbed baby seals or anything like that, we just need somebody that we can all say, “Okay, you’re good.” WE NEED A BREAK. Enter Willie Nelson.

that the weed world was never supposed to become.

Willie is a home grower all the way back (and before) the 1980’s when he birthed Farm Aid because farmers all over were losing their land to corporate takeovers and farmers were committing suicide at a scary rate. Does any of this sound familiar? He raised millions for the little guy back then and he hasn’t stopped caring about the little guy ever since.

Big Marijuana has gone big pesticides, big investment and Here’s why: it’s not his music, has pushed out the little grower although ol’ boy can throw down since the ink dried on the first with the best of ‘em even when legislation. Legalization has he’s getting ready for bed at 2 come with a lot of drawbacks a.m. and you knock on his door, that Willie saw from early on looking for a little “Whiskey and is fighting, along with River” lovin’ (wear a Covid mask his business partner, Andrew please), it’s not his cool braids Davidson, Co-Owner of Willie’s or his longevity in the music biz. Reserve. Nope. It’s that he is standing up to the corporate takeovers There are no chemicals in the MMJ/MJ biz world who legally approved to be used are threatening the way of life on Marijuana, but not a lot

of government oversight in many states, meaning that big grow ops are not risking losing big profits (Avid, Floramite, myclobutanil, and imidacloprid are used in big quantities for mites to name a few). What Willie has been doing is quite genius really. Small growers can get his ‘Seal of Approval’ if they meet certain requirements; they cannot use certain pesticides, they must be a small grower, they must have good product and they must be ethical. What Willie gives them is power. They can compete with the big players in the marketplace and see bigger return on their investment. Willie is fighting some big foes,

with companies like Monsanto and Bayer trying to take over the marijuana game, but he’s not quitting. As a matter of fact, he’s digging in his heels and telling it like it is. “These problems could have been fixed on the first day, but you have a lot of bureaucracy and bullshit, a lot of big corporations. So that’s what we’re up against. They’re trying to monopolize it all. That’s horseshit. That ain’t right, and we’ll do everything we can to keep that from happening.” – Willie Nelson If you are gonna put your weed where reputation is, some of the best out there has Willie’s stamp on it.

apps you can use to feel less isolated by TCB Staff 4. TwoSeven: this app has me stumped. You can text chat but also host watch parties of videos because you can video share as well as a bunch of other options to interact with your friends as if you were all in the same room binge watching the same show. I think this is for Millennials, but I had to share it. One thing: everyone must be subscribed to the streaming service and it only works with Chrome and Firefox. I get the idea, but it didn’t sound like something I would want to do. I think this is for the younger crowd.

Are you tired of feeling left out of life? It’s okay if you are. Humans are preprogrammed to be social animals and it’s in our DNA to rely on each other to survive. Over history, this has led to us being dependent on others for social interaction like we need air or water. If you live alone or your partner is not as social as you are, that’s okay, we have social apps you can use to get your social skills back to normal. 1. Houseparty: this app allows up to eight people to get into a chat room at a time and others to sync using Facebook or Snapchat. It’s the third most downloaded app right now so you may feel better in the knowledge that others out there are also needing social interaction as much as you are.

2. Trivia/Heads Up: These apps are not so much social, but more ways to connect with people if you just want to play games but not always worried about who you play those games with. If you’ve had a few beers, these games can be like bar games, but if you want to play with friends, they offer those options as well. 3. Words with Friends: an oldies but a goodie, WWF is a blast that tests your knowledge of the English language, but if you have a true anglophile, you might get tired of losing. Some people play WWF like their lives are dependent on the scores, so beware. I personally do not know any of these people I swear.

are engaged in our lives more often but it’s not so bad. We all need a change of scenery once in a while. Editor’s Note: recently, Zoom has been the subject of attacks by outsiders sending pornography, racist hate speak or any other number of terrible things using Zoom as their platform. Unfortunately, many people also use Zoom for meeting with their doctors instead of office visits. If you are new to Zoom and apps like it, you will want to create an account with a password, just as you would for your bank account, even if your doctor provides you with a code.

So, there you go. Being isolated does not mean ISOLATED. We used to go out and look at our phones all the time. Now, we

Strains for your brain:

We told you on page 7 about how to work around your fear, now we are going to tell you how to deal with Covid-19 depression. More specifically, what strains address it.

mood is very personal. If you need to stop cleaning the house like a crazy person, the same strain won’t work for you as well as the person who can’t get out of bed and face the weeks’ worth of dishes in the sink. If all your creative juices have left the building and you can’t find the interest in making a Covid mask, your needs are very different than those of the person who wants to make skull jewelry, but both of you have creative drives that have left you feeling slow and tired.

Many of the sour and lemon terpene strains seem to have depression in the bag. Some people will tell you that Sativas address it by giving you energy, others say Indicas relax you and get rid of your stress, so depending on how you deal with being upset, maybe being depressed can’t be answered by the Indica vs Sativa debate. We Strains for those who are feeling sad, unfocused and slow: aren’t sure it can be answered by terpenes either because your
