jman ist mit 260 Quadratkilometern das kleinste emirat der Vae. die einwohner leben hauptsächlich von der Fischerei, der dattelpalmenzucht, dem schiffsbau und dem handel. in den letzten Jahren hat ajman deutlich in den Tourismus investiert. Besucher des emirats dürfen sich freuen, denn sie kommen in den Genuss exzellenter hotels mit hervorragendem Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis.

INSIDERDESTINATION Von 1835 an gehörte ajman, wie auch die anderen sechs mitglieder der Vereinigten arabischen emirate, zu den „Trucial states“ und stand damit unter englischem Protektorat. 1971 entließ Großbritannien ajman in die Unabhängigkeit und ermöglichte so den Beitritt des emirats in die Vae. auch ohne gewinnträchtige naturschätze mauserte sich das Land, das von der

al-nuaimi-Familie regiert wird, zu einer anziehenden region für Besucher. die abwechslungsreiche insider-destination ist nur eine etwa 45-minütige autofahrt vom dubai international airport entfernt. damit ist eine schnelle und unkomplizierte anreise gewährleistet. die meisten hotels finden sich an einem 16 Kilometer langen Küstenstreifen mit Postkarten-stränden am Persischen Golf. hier, zwischen Umm al-Qaiwain und sharjah-stadt, liegt auch die gleichnamige hauptstadt des emirats. mit etwa 200.000 einwohnern wirkt ajman City nicht gerade groß, aber wenn man bedenkt, dass im gesamten emirat nur etwa 260.000 menschen leben, erscheint die Zahl in einem anderen Licht.

GOOD to know… Viel sonne und das milde Klima von ajman schaffen optimale Voraussetzungen für einen Urlaub. es bietet sich an, die region zwischen Oktober und april zu besuchen, dann klettert das Thermometer auf 28−35 °C. in Juli und august muss man sich auf hitze pur mit über 40 °C einstellen.

Anreise: das emirat ist rund 45 minuten vom Flughafen dubai und etwa 1,5 stunden vom Flughafen abu dhabi entfernt, beide städte werden von europa aus täglich angeflogen. nach knapp sechs Flugstunden landet man in den Vae. ein Jetlag ist eher unwahrscheinlich, in der sommerzeit beträgt der Zeitunterschied nur plus zwei, im Winter plus drei stunden. Für die einreise in die Vae ist ein reisepass nötig, der noch mindestens sechs monate nach der geplanten ausreise gültig sein muss. mit der Passkontrolle am Flughafen erhalten europäer mit dem stempel in den reisepass ein kostenloses Touristenvisum. die aufenthaltserlaubnis gilt 30 Tage und kann gegen

eine Gebühr um weitere 30 Tage verlängert werden. Kinder müssen im Besitz eines eigenen reisepasses sein. Für die aufgeschlossenen emiratis ist es selbstverständlich, fremde Kulturen und religionen zu respektieren. ihr muslimischer Glaube hat kaum einfluss auf internationale Besucher. diese sollten dem Land ebenfalls respekt zollen, in dem sie sich mit den Gegebenheiten vertraut machen und diese beachten. Westliche Kleidung ist kein Problem, sofern sie nicht allzu freizügig ist. shorts und Bikinis gehören an den strand oder hotelpool, beim sightseeing und auf shoppingtouren sollten Knie und schultern bedeckt sein. der austausch von Zärtlichkeiten unter Paaren, wie beispielsweise Küssen oder Umarmen, ist in der Öffentlichkeit nicht erlaubt. die emirate sind bekannt für ihre außergewöhnlich niedrige Kriminalitätsrate. da macht ajman keine ausnahme. das emirat ist nicht nur eine attraktive, sondern auch eine sehr sichere destination.

ABWECHSLUNG Wem nach sightseeing, Wassersport und entspanntem nichtstun unter strahlend blauem himmel der sinn nach shopping steht, wird selbst in so einem kleinem emirat wie ajman auf seine Kosten kommen. es gibt kleine Geschäfte und große einkaufszentren wie das City Centre ajman, das mit über 70 Geschäften genügend auswahl bietet. INSIDER DESTINATION From 1835 onwards Ajman, together with the other six members of the United Arab Emirates, was part of the “Trucial States“, a British protectorate. In 1971 Great Britain granted independence to Ajman,

paving the way for it to join the UAE. Even without profitable natural resources the country, ruled by the Al-Nuaimi family, became an attractive region for visitors. This diverse insider destination is just a 45-minute car drive from Dubai International Airport. Fast and uncomplicated arrival is therefore guaranteed. Arrival: The emirate is situated around 45 minutes from Dubai Airport and around 1.5 hours from Abu Dhabi Airport, both of which receive daily flights from Europe. The flight to the UAE takes around six hours. Jet lag is unlikely, in the summertime the time difference is just two hours ahead, in winter three. A passport is required to enter the UAE, with this valid for at least six months after planned departure. With passport control at the airport Europeans receive a free tourist visa with the stamp in the passport. The visa is valid for 30 days, and can be extended for a further 30 days in return

With a population of around 200,000, Ajman City does not seem particularly big, but this figure appears in a different light when one considers that only 260,000 people live in the whole emirate.

for a fee. Children are required to have their own passport. For the cosmopolitan Emiratis it is natural to respect foreign cultures and religions. Their Moslem belief has no effect on international visitors. Foreigners should also treat the country with respect by familiarising themselves with its customs and observing these. Western clothing is not a problem as long as it is not too revealing. Shorts and bikinis belong on the beach or by the hotel pool, with knees and shoulders covered when sightseeing and shopping. Displays of affection between couples, such as kissing or cuddling, is not permitted in public. The United Arab Emirates are known for their unusually low crime rates. Ajman is no exception to this. The emirate is not only an attractive destination, it is also a very safe one.

In addition to the coastal strip, the Masfout exclave is also part of the emirate of Ajman, with a picturesque location at the foot of the Hajar Mountains. Masfout makes a living from quarrying marble and cultivating tobacco plants. The oasis of Manama forms the third part of the smallest of the seven emirates. Mineral water springs even permit agriculture here, with lush data palm plantations and aromatic lemon groves.

VARIETY Those with the urge to shop after sightseeing, water sports and relaxation under radiant blue skies will find that even a small emirate such as Ajman has more than enough to offer. There are small shops and large shopping centres such as the City Centre Ajman, with over 70 stores. MUST-SEES in Ajman

das Fort aus dem 18. Jahrhundert liegt mitten im stadtzentrum von ajman. ein hübscher Bau aus Korallenstein, Gips und Jandal-holz. das Fort wurde in den 1980-ern in ein museum verwandelt mit einer Vielzahl an archäologischen artefakten, manuskripten und alten Waffen. die einzigartigen exponate wurden von seiner königlichen hoheit, scheich humaid bin rashid al nuaimi, dem museum großzügig überlassen.

Masfout nur zwei stunden von ajman stadt entfernt und dennoch eine andere Welt: die hajar mountains in der enklave masfout. Wanderer und mountainbiker werden begeistert sein. die schöne, wilde Landschaft mit ihrem erfrischenden Klima lädt zu Touren weit weg von der hitze und hektik der stadt ein. Wer schon mal hier ist, sollte auch gleich masfout Castle, gebaut im 19. Jahrhundert, einen Besuch abstatten.

Just two hours from the city of Ajman and yet a world away: the Hajar Mountains in the Masfout enclave. Hikers and mountain bikers will be delighted. The beautiful, wild landscape with its refreshing climate is perfect for tours far from the heat and bustle of the city. Once you are here, a visit to Masfout Castle, built in the 19th century, is also well worthwhile.

This 18th century fort lies in the centre of Ajman. A fine building of coral, gypsum and jandal wood. The fort was converted into a museum in the 1980s and boasts a range of archaeological artefacts, manuscripts and old weapons. The unique exhibits were generously donated to the museum by His Highness Sheikh Humaid Bin Rashid Al Nuaimi.

Ajman reveals its best side to visitors: kilometre-long sandy beaches gladden the heart of water sports enthusiasts and sun lovers. Golfers can improve their skills on the putting green of the Kempinski Hotel Ajman. Horse lovers will be delighted with the stud farms. Some of the finest Arabian horses in the world are bred in Ajman. A voyage of discovery through this small but charming emirate is a wonderful experience.

Unmittelbar an der ajman Corniche liegt der al-murabba Watchtower. der Bau wurde in den 1930-ern von scheich rashid Bin humaid al nuaimi (1982 − 1981) zum schutz der einwohner in auftrag gegeben. im Jahr 2000 wurde der Turm saniert.

It is not just Dubai and Abu Dhabi that have a corniche, Ajman also has a coastal road to offer. Over its 16-kilometre length hotels, modern shops, traditional souks, restaurants and cafés throng the sandy beaches. There is no chance of boredom here.
