Buyers’ Lounge is a business-to-business opportunity to market the seasonal collections to an extensive database of buyers ranging from the chains to the independent boutiques. “At the buyers lounge I was approached by the giant chain store Edgar's who wanted to stock my collection at their designer capsule in Melrose Arch. I was the first up and coming business (3 months old) to supply them. At that time I didn’t know what it meant to create an invoice but here I was doing it.”

“As a young girl despite the amazing parents and wonderful brother I have, who did not want to expose me to certain things in life, I made bad decisions and found myself in a very abusive relationship as a teenager and most of my early 20’s. When you are exposed to something like this, it skews your judgement and many who are not involved in the relationship have this persona that young girls make all this up just for the attention — and thats only until something happens.”

“I am extremely grateful by each and every showcase that I find myself apart of. This international platform allows designers across the world to sell their products. I am currently still working on this collection which is called the “Sequence of Sequins.” It highlights the trend that will happen this summer which is sequins, metallics and textured fabrics,” says Nishai. “In Pietermaritzburg the scope and recognition for us designers is really small. Therefore we have to take a leap out of our comfort zones and seek to grow our dreams in other parts of the country as well as the world and the greatest reward is seeing ourselves grow.”

IS TECH MAKING IT HARDER TO COMMUNICATE WITH SCHOOLS?

ATM SAFETY ATMs are a great convenience, but they can compromise your safety. A robber looking for easy prey only has to stake out an ATM in a low-traffic, dimly lit area and bide his time. Recently, guards at the China Mall situated in Manchester Road had approached us with this matter.
Another method used is that of trapping cards in ATMs. In this case, criminals insert hard plastic into the card slot which results in the victim’s card being trapped in the ATM machine. The victim usually thinks that the card has been swallowed by the machine. When they leave the ATM, the criminal will dislodge the plastic and the card will come out of the machine with it. ATM users should ensure that the hand that types in the PIN number is always covered so that nobody can see what you are typing.
The source, has also asked us to highlight that those pensioners and people who come He said, “We were called up by our manage- to use the ATM’s towards month end as well ment and they have now put two guards at as around Stokvel, should be careful as these this area due to recent card skimming, theft are “high-risk times.” “With two guards we and bank recipients cash been stolen. much as this has made it easier for parents to keep track of their kids tests and sports schedules etc. How much interest does it take away from the relationship a parent should have with their child’s educators? Does the application tell you personally whether your child is perhaps getting all the necessary tasks completed? Or whether or not he or she has the correct attitude towards their education? It may keep you as a parent in the loop but does this essentially mean there would be a change in your child’s performance?
Adam Oxford who also wrote an opinionated article on the d6 communicator titled, “Tech is making it harder to communicate with schools” last October, basically says “the best I can think of is to go back to a single piece of paper.” He speaks of his time at school where parents would receive letters from schools and hand to sign it and send it back with their kids the next day, where parents would play an active role in their children's academics as
well as kids being far more disciplined and responsible. “Information overload is common” and this is true, we receive texts all days, and as a parent you’re in and out of meetings or the work loads just get higher and higher or maybe you’re heading your own business or you stay at home and you well you’ll see but how often do you remember that you’ve seen that important meeting scheduled for next Thursday at school with all your chaos? It becomes a lot to remember and ultimately it takes away a lot more communication than it brings. It may help some, but, information overload is certainly a thing and we’re only human and will definitely forget. This application could be a very useful tool to parents around the world if used correctly and efficiently. What do you think? Send us your opinion of the d6 school communicator and tell us whether you think this will work or not for you as a parent. Eyebrows frame the face and the hype about acquiring perfect brows has escalated over the last few years. The most popular way to make eyebrows appear fuller is to fill them in with makeup products, but of late a technique, microblading, has been gaining immense popularity. Microblading is a technique where a special pen is used to draw strokes resembling hair onto the eyebrows filling in bare spots and also making thin brows appear fuller. The ink is matched to your natural brow colour and enhances the natural shape of your brows.
The reason for this beauty procedure being so prevalent is that it is semi-permanent, unlike permanent tattoo makeup that looks unnatural. This procedure lasts for up to three years depending on how your skin takes to it and touch ups are required. It seems all pretty perfect but microblading doesn’t come without a few cons. It can cause you some discomfort if a mild anaesthetic isn’t administered (and it is regulated that one is administered because even with one it can cause a little discomfort). The cost factor has to also be considered as with any aesthetic procedure it doesn’t come without a considerable price tag. Microblading is great if your brows take a long time to grow out, and if they are sparse. (The microblading service is offered at Senses Day Spa in Pietermaritzburg- 033 345 0511).
2017 Must Haves Greenery
(Pantone's colour of the year 2017) Each year the colour fanatics at Pantone determine the most popular colour of the year and this year it's a very fresh nature inspired tone aptly named greenery. This hue has already been spotted on tropical prints for this season, and will be seen adorning accessories and homeware as well.
Mirrored Sunnies: Retro shades with mirrored lenses are all the rage. They add that instant trend update and are a great addition to your summer attire.
Embroidery
Embellishments were popular last year and the trend is set to continue this year. Embroidery being one of the most popular forms of embellishment, was seen on many a high end catwalk and the chain stores have brought the trend to the masses. The needle work creates floral and oriental designs which add a pop of colour to otherwise plain silhouettes. Must have embroidered items to carry you through the seasons are a tailored shirt, a bomber jacket and denim.
January means the end of the holidays and the beginning of the working year for many. Working in a corporate environment dictates a certain form of dressing which can become costly. Many woman have the misconception that they need a lot of workwear items, but in reality you could get through the week with minimal pieces. Essentials: Three tailored pants (black, beige/khaki and grey). Two pencil skirts (black and beige). Three structured shirts (White, Black and Striped/a bold colour). Two formal camisoles. High heeled black and nude pumps. Flat black and nude shoes. A pair of dark denim jeans with a solid wash (denim is no longer viewed as only casual wear but be careful to choose jeans that are a classic cut without any trendy embellishments). These pieces can be used in conjunction with each other and can me mixed and matched. That's the reason for choosing neutral tones. When purchasing workwear items look for quality items in fabrics that wash well, these will carry you though a few months. For a pop of colour that's not over the top pair these items with accessories like neck pieces, earrings and neck scarves. Add ons for winter months would be a classic coat and knitwear. TIP: Arrange your daily ensembles over the weekends. Creating this type of wardrobe will make dressing up for a work a lot easier as it will save time. And who doesn't need more time in the mornings?

Do you often berate yourself for not reaching your goal of drinking 8 glasses, or more of water every day? Drinking that amount of water can be a challenge when there are so many other delicious drinks out there but it’s important to meet the challenge! Whether you’re trying to lose weight or simply want to look and feel healthier, one of the best ways
to rid your body of harmful toxins and keep your organs healthy is to drink water. One of the easiest ways to stay motivated to drink up is to infuse your water with fruits and vegetables – not only will you want to keep sipping but you will also get all sorts of other added health benefits from the fruits and veggies you add.
Mint, Lime & Raspberry Water
Blueberry & Orange Water
This tremendous trio is great for improving digestion and is packed with antioxidants. Flush out those toxins from your kidneys, liver and colon by adding a handful of raspberries (fresh or frozen), a handful of fresh mint leaves and a medium sized lime (sliced) to a jug of water. Add ice and refrigerate before drinking.
This tasty combo is packed full of antioxidant and is not only great for flushing out toxins but also helps to soften dry skin, boost brain functionality, bolster your immune system and prevent infections. Mix a jug of tap or purified water with a handful of fresh blueberries and 2 oranges (with peel, sliced). Add ice and leave to infuse for at least an hour.
Note: You can muddle the raspberries a bit if you want more flavour in your water. If you’re still struggling to drink water or want some bubbles try using sparkling water instead of still. The bubbles will give you that ‘carbonated drink’ fix and make you feel fuller for longer.
Note: You can also muddle the blueberries a little bit before adding them to the water or squeeze the juice of an additional orange into the water. This will give you a stronger taste.

HOME & GARDEN
The spekboom belongs to a large and widespread family (Portulacaceae) which includes the popular summer flowering annual Portulaca, although this annual is not a South African species. Portulacaria afra has a growing reputation for saving the planet and recent research has dubbed the spekboom "an excellent carbon sponge" because of its ability to absorb more free carbon from the atmosphere than most other plants. Studies have shown that this amazing succulent can store more than four tons of carbon per hectare, creating what is called a "carbon sink" when planted in large plantations, and making it one of the best plants to grow in order to combat warming of the earth's atmosphere.
and the stiff, irregularly arranged branches will grow into a thicket if left unpruned. Heavy branches may break off, often rooting where they fall and starting new plants. In the wild, a myriad of small star-shaped pink flowers are produced in clusters at the ends of the branches from late winter to spring, although flowering in cultivation can often be erratic. Pollinated flowers are followed by tiny, papery and transparent 3-winged fruits which resemble pinkish lanterns, each with a single seed. The flowers are a rich source of nectar for many insects, which in-turn will attract many insectivorous birds. This plant is also called "Elephant Food" in the Eastern Cape because it forms part of the diet of the Addo elephants in the Addo National Park.
also fire resistant, the spekboom is excellent for firescaping properties which are susceptible to wildfires. It is also a good soil binder, helping to prevent soil erosion, and is used for restoration purposes in semi-arid landscapes and thicket vegetation. It has also shown good results when grown as a "green roof plant", where much larger plants are able to be grown.
Portulacaria afra is found in warm situations on rocky outcrops and slopes in succulent Karoo scrub, thicket, bushveld, and dry-river valleys in the eastern parts of South Africa, from the Eastern Cape northwards into KwaZulu-Natal, Swaziland, Mpumalanga, Limpopo and further north into Mozambique. The spekboom is a strikingly attractive, evergreen succulent with its small round emerald-green leaves, borne on startling-red stems. In the garden it will grow moderately to a height of about 1.5 to 2m, but can mature into a small tree 2 to 5m tall. Although a succulent, the trunk and branches have a woody inner tissue,
This spekboom looks wonderful if allowed to cascade over a low wall or rockery, or planted in a Loffelstein type retaining wall, hanging basket or pot. It also makes a wonderful groundcover and contrast plant under Cycads or other form plants. There are 8 other forms of this plant all with different uses.
coordinates well with plants with red, purple or dark foliage. Besides being excellent for binding atmospheric carbon, the spekboom has many different importances. It is browsed by many wild and domestic animals, and is a favourite of tortoises. The leaves have a sour or tart flavour, and humans are also known to chew on the juicy leaves for their health benefits. It is also used in salads and stews, and it has been recorded that a small sprig of spekboom, steamed with a tomato bredie, imparts a delicious flavour. Also, the honey made from the flowers is reputed to have a remarkable flavour and texture.
Traditionally the leaves are chewed to increase the breast milk of lactating mothers, and as a treatment for sore throats and mouth infections. The leaves are also used to quench thirst, and sucking on a leaf is used to treat exhaustion, dehydration and heat stroke. Crushed, leaves are rubbed onto the feet to relieve the pain of blisters and corns, and the astringent juice is applied to skin as a treatment for sunburn, pimples, rashes and All forms of this versatile plant are easy insect bites or stings. to grow in containers and the cork bark form makes an excellent and This succulent will thrive indoors if handsome bonsai for indoors or placed in a warm room with bright outdoors. Rather, fill the saucer with fine gravel and place the pot on top so excess water cannot reach the drainage holes. Water your plant only when the potting soil is dry or almost totally dry, and in cold winter regions restrict watering to a minimum in winter. Feed potted specimens monthly during the growing season with a liquid plant food and repot when the plant has filled the container or the roots can be seen growing out the drainage holes.

IS MORE: A BABY CHANGES MORE 2017 VOLKSWAGEN TIGUAN 1.4 TSI EVERYTHING COMFORTLINE DSG
Your life is no longer your own. You don’t sleep very much. Your social life sucks. Everything you do depends on the needs of the infant and he or she seems to need a pack mule to carry everything.
Travel, especially intercontinental, is challenging. Weight limits are weight limits and you can only bring bare necessities with you. That’s why a baby equipment rental company, like The Travelling Baby (www.thetravellingbaby.co.za) is such a blessing. Just as one might hire a car on arrival, so too can jet-setting mums and dads rent car seats, high chairs, strollers, travel cots and more. The company’s mission is to make travelling with infants as stress- and hassle-free as possible, delivering sanitised and safe baby equipment and accessories to King Shaka International and to addresses within the Durban and Pietermaritzburg areas. Further, if you let them know which company you are hiring a car from, they can deliver your order to the firm concerned, ahead of your arrival,
making that one less thing to worry about. Items may also be collected from their premises in Mount Edgecombe. Travelling with a baby requires much more than just the few items mentioned above. How about baths, bath toys, baby gates, monitors, walking rings, sterilisers and all the other kit babies need? Over thirty items are listed on their Products page so take a look: http://www.thetravellingbaby.co.za/products Need diapers, baby food, juice, wipes, milk, shampoo or lotions? Not a problem; you specify brands, sizes and quantities and, provided your preferred choices are available, the company will shop for you and include them in your delivery.
Company owners Keeran and Natasha Ramnath are parents of three boys and have been in the baby kit rental business for ten years, so it’s quite possible they will know about potential travelling hiccups before you do. Visit their website or give them a call on +27 83 781 0020 or +27 82 496 5634
This is one of those models in which the term “new” actually means what it says on the tin. First, it’s built on the MQB platform like Golf, Passat and Q3. Its wheelbase is 77 mm longer, the body was stretched 60 millimetres, it stands 33 mm lower and is 30 mm wider. All you need concern yourself with is that back seat knee room is 29 millimetres longer; head space has increased although you sit 8 mm higher; the rear hatch is slightly larger and luggage volume is up to 145 litres bigger.
line) came with an R-Line pack at R18 000. This consists of sporty suspension; body-coloured rear spoiler, bumpers and sill extensions; black surrounds on the wheel arches; black hoodlining and 8.5J x 19-inch Sebring wheels with 245/45 rubber. Despite the “sport” suspension its ride was not unduly harsh, while choppy dirt road surfaces could not upset its composure.
Styling changes reduced its co-efficient of drag (Cd) from 0.37 to 0.32 so it slips through the air more efficiently. And the bigger body weighs about 53 kg less. Total length is still only 4.49 metres, so it’s nicely manageable.
In an attempt to satisfy users of most sizes, while acknowledging every family’s right to sufficient luggage space, the rear seats (with reclinable backrests) adjust fore and aft over a range of 18 centimetres. That’s stretch-out luxury to little-kids-only. Head space is comfortable for six-footers and foot room is generous.
Second, there has been a change of 1400 cc petrol engine. New Tiguans use the 1395 cc (smaller bore with longer stroke for better torque delivery) motor, rather than the old 1390, and power outputs are now 92- and 110 kW rather than 90 and 118. They power three models in two trim levels and with manual or automatic. All 1400s have 4x2 drivetrains. Third, VW moved away from old-Tiguan’s odd-sounding “trend, sport, style and fun” model names to more familiar Trendline, Comfortline and Highline. The only 1.4 automatic comes with the 110 kW engine - and a surprise of its own. Selective cylinder de-activation cuts power to cylinders two and three, when demand is light, to save fuel. Top of range at present is a two-litre, 162-kW TSI with 4Motion awd and seven-speed DSG. There is one diesel version, a 2.0 TDI Comfortline manual. Our test car (110 kW, six-speed DSG, Comfort-
Typically VW, this Tiguan feels tight and solid, fit and finish is good and the familiar DSG ‘box responds quickly. Manual override is by choice of stick or paddles. The engine maintained cruising speeds easily and accelerated cleanly under pressure. Like most modern cars, connectivity is King and most functions and gadgets are selected via touchscreen. One also has a choice of vehicle response modes – Eco, Comfort, Normal and Sport but these are hidden within a menu. There are a couple of blank switch positions on the centre console, so we’d prefer to find the selector there.
Satellite air vents with temperature adjusters help to keep everyone warm or cool, there are two cup holders in the fold-down arm rest that opens a load-through hatch and a pair of drop-down picnic tables add to comfort. Three belts and head restraints look after safety. A minor concern is that the middle passenger had better be small because the centre hump is big. New Tiguan has won its share of “best SUV” awards overseas and it’s easy to see why. It’s competitively priced, more than big enough, hauls luggage, hauls ass and it’s “Connected”.
