Sista Accessories…Where Every “Fly Diva” Shops Interview by Angela Anderson
In the fashion world, accessories are items that range from jewelry, handbags, sunglasses to hats and belts that are often used to enhance one’s attire. For many reasons, accessory lovers are drawn to this eye-catching outerwear to bring an extra umph and wow factor to any attire. It’s the new year and people are often looking for the hottest and latest trends. One accessory boutique that is definitely up for the task of meeting the needs of women is Sista Accessories. The Heat Seekers Magazine had an opportunity to catch up with the owner, King Brooks. Let’s just say he is one smooth operator when it comes to the latest in women’s accessories with a unique creative authentic flair. We had a great time talking about all things Sista Accessories. Angela Anderson: King, how did you get started with Sista Accessories? King Brooks: I got my start back in 2006 making jewelry by hand. Then I ventured into sourcing pieces for my actual boutique. AA: Why did you start Sista Accessories? KB: I started Sista Accessories to help black women jazz up their outfits. I used to make one-of-a-kind jewelry pieces like earrings, necklaces, and watches. However, the more I started to research my craft, I found that I could venture out by creating handmade items while incorporating the perfect blend of non-handmade items. AA: Which aspect of your business is the most fun for you? KB: I would definitely have to say when I receive orders and ship them out to customers, and they send me pictures or videos of them wearing their items. That is the highlight of my day. AA: What can shoppers expect when they shop with your boutique, Sista Accessories? KB: They can expect unique items to accessorize their outfits. AA: Since it is now 2022, let’s talk about how you prep for a new year. Are you a New Year’s resolution kind of person? KB: I am not a New Year’s resolution person, per se. However, I do feel that you need to set goals throughout the year and work to achieve those goals. AA: King, it has been great discussing Sista Accessories. Please share with us where people can find your boutique? KB: People can locate us online on our website at www.sistaaccessories.com.

The Amen Corner-Vol11 by Nayomi Charnelle
Reckless Love by Cory Asbury I must say this song is one thousand percent relatable. The song talks about how God will chase after you if he has an assignment for your life and you are a natural-born sinner. The lyrics speak of how relentless God is in pursuing his children. Especially those who have been assigned to serve the kingdom. It doesn’t matter what you’ve done or what you’ve tried to do. Luke 15 talks about how the Pharisees talked so much junk about Jesus and how who hung out amongst the sinners. Jesus provides the parable of how a shepherd will leave 99 sheep to find that 1 lost sheep. The lyrics state that there is no door or mountain that would ever get in the way of God’s love for his children. I listen to this song every morning because it reminds me of how God chased after me even when acted like a fool and kept running from him. I’m so glad He caught up to me and didn’t give up on me.

Multi-Talented Artists Interview by The Heat Seekers How did you get started in the music industry? We both grew up singing in the church. When we started to get invitations to share our gifts beyond the four walls of our home churches, we knew had something God wanted us to take to the nations. Were there any challenges when you distributed your first song? Distribution is easy, getting people to listen and support is where the challenge comes from. Your sound has to compete with everything else that is out, and there is a lot of great music. Standing out becomes the grind. Where does your creativity come from? Listening to a lot of music and be willing to be inspired by everything musical and non-musical. Inspiration is around us everywhere if we pay attention. What are your writing techniques like for songs? There are hits that have stood the test of time. The format has been established. We’ve studied it and then infused our sound into the format. Real life makes for good stories to tell. Tell me a little bit more about the awards you’ve won? Our album “One Touch” garnered us a 2020 Kingdom Image Award Best Album of the Year and a 2020 Rhythm of Gospel Award for Best Packaging. This year, we received the Artist of the Year and Album of the Year at the Dunamis Gospel Awards. How many songs have you written so far and when can we expect your next album? Between the two of us we have about 50 songs released, all written by us. We have started writing the next album but will probably drop a few more singles before the album drops. People are rocking with us but there is a big world out here we want to introduce our sound to. When the demand is there, we’ll drop an album. As an indie songwriter, do you face any challenges with publishing? Most independents don’t really understand the world of publishing. You’re told to register with a PRO but how to make money with them. We’ve been blessed to have songs appear on radio charts and now have a couple of songs in films. It’s a process, but we and willing to do the work.
What is your take on musicians supporting other musicians? I rock with everybody until they give me a reason not to and even then, I’ll support. It takes guts to put yourself and sound out there. I respect the effort that goes into it. Who is your favorite artist (s) and why? We love David and Tamala Mann. They are doing some amazing things and we one day hope to connect with them on a project, couples tour or something of that sort. THE HEAT SEEKERS MAGAZINE

Tell us about the song that played on the soap opera General Hospital? James Patrick Stuart, an Emmy Award Nominee, featured the couple’s “soultry vocals” on his record “Can You Feel Me,” which he performed on ABC’s General Hospital. He reached out to us under an alias to work on the song. When we finished, he revealed to us he was apart cast of the show and would sing it during the Nurses ball. What advice would you give to aspiring artists wanting to write and perform music? Keep going and when you feel like stopping, don’t. You’ll never get to where you want to be if you stop. What do you enjoy doing on your spare time when you aren’t writing, singing, or playing? We enjoying playing with our kids, Daveah, David Jr., and Amiyah. They all and beginning to have develop their own interests and we will be there to support and push them in all of their endeavors. How many instruments do you play and how long have you been musically inclined? David (starting playing in church at age 13) voice, keyboard, organ, and drums- acoustic guitar just not in public lol. Tiffanyvoice, piano- but not in public lol. We’ve both been singing as long as we can remember. Tell us how your fans can connect with you. Her Hometown Hero Interview by King Brooks
I have been a fan of Jacquelin Thomas since 2000 when I first saw her film ‘Hidden Blessings’ on BET. She is a legend in the publishing industry and have been so nurturing and inspiring to so many upcoming authors. I had the opportunity to sit down and interview her about her new book ‘Her Hometown Hero’ the latest book in the Polk Island series. So sit back and enjoy our interview. King Brooks: Tell us about your new novel ‘Her Hometown Hero?’ Jacquelin Thomas: Her Hometown Hero is the second book in the Polk Island series for Harlequin Heartwarming. Trey Rothchild returns to the island a wounded man, having lost both legs and his entire team. His childhood sweetheart, Gia Harris isn’t looking for romance, but refuses to give up on him or let him give up on himself. Trey doesn’t want to pass on this second chance with Gia, but he has to find the strength to fight through PTSD, survivor’s guilt and the nightmares that haunt him. KB: Where did the idea for this story come from? JT: Her Hometown Hero was born out of my desire to honor the active duty service members, veterans and their families. I also wanted to highlight a man who desired to serve and protect his country—a desire that cost him his legs and the ultimate sacrifice from his team. KB: How long did it take for you to write ‘Her Hometown Hero?’ Jacquelin Thomas: I would say it would normally take me maybe five or six weeks after I do the research. But this particular book took a little longer. KB: ‘Her Hometown Hero’ is the second book in “the Polk Island series.” How different is ‘Her Hometown Hero’ from your other work? JT: I wouldn’t say that it’s different from my other body of work, but to me it’s a special book. This is the first book I’ve written which features a character who is a double amputee and an active duty service member. It is similar to my other work in that, some of my characters struggle with mental disorders such as anxiety, panic disorder, PTSD, etc. KB: What do you want readers to take away from ‘Her Hometown Hero?’ JT: The main message I’d like readers to take from this story is that life is precious. Tomorrow isn’t promised to anyone, so we must live each day on purpose. In the middle
of writing this book, I lost my oldest daughter, so I have to confess it was a challenge to finish this story, but I pushed through. As I mentioned earlier, it took me a little longer because it was an emotional story to write and I was heartbroken. However, writing this story helped me through my own grieving process. It was through writing about Trey’s to be called a hero that I realized that we honor the people we’ve lost by living our lives to the fullest. KB: Who is Jacquelin Thomas as a person and as a author? JT: I am a wife, mother, grandmother. As an author, I am those same things but I write about life and its struggles. As a person and an author, I try to encourage and inspire others by sharing some of my personal experiences. I’ve lived with chronic panic disorder for almost 30 years. For a long time, I was ashamed and kept it a secret, but I’ve discovered that the more I talk or write about my own struggles—I have found that I’m not alone. Suffering in silence isn’t a good thing, so I use my voice and my writing to let others know that they are not alone. I no longer allow my fears to keep me silent—I use them to empower me and others. THE HEAT SEEKERS MAGAZINE
13
KB: When did the writing bug hit you? JT: Oh wow… I was in third grade and it was my teacher who took note of my “gift” as she called it. She actually nurtured this gift in me by taking me to a book signing and introducing me to local authors in my area. I didn’t publish my first book until 1997 and I’m forever grateful that she lived long enough to attend my first book signing. She stood up and shared that she’d always known I’d be a writer. KB: What keeps you coming back for more? (i.e. writing, telling stories) JT: The stories just won’t stop coming. There have been times when I’ve wanted to quit—times when I felt it was time to just stop writing, but I couldn’t. I have a personal goal of writing 100 books and then retiring… we’ll just have to see what happens. KB: What advice would you give to an aspiring author? JT: Always allow yourself to remain teachable. I’ve been published for 25 years and there’s still so much that I feel I still don’t know. I buy books on the craft of writing almost every other month because I am constantly trying to stretch myself as a writer. I believe with each book a reader should see growth in that writer. It is my hope that my readers see my growth and that I’m still able to surprise them and haven’t become predictable. KB: How can readers get in touch with you and find your books? JT: My website is: www.jacquelin-thomas.com. I’m also on Facebook: @jacquelinwrites KB: What can we expect from you in the future? JT: I’m happy to announce that my third book in the Polk Island series: Her Marine Hero will be released August 25, 2022 and my first romantic suspense Evidence Uncovered will release in October 2022. KB: Thank you so much for sitting down with me!

Korrie’s Korner Interview by Angela Anderson
Korrie Noelle is a book lover with a raving appetite for books varying in genres, just as long as there is romance and a happily ever after (HEA). There are mega points to be scored if it is a book with diverse characters. Korrie loves talking about all things books and advocating for diversity in romance. In addition to her love for books, she is a bonafide coffee drinker. Let’s just say if coffee were a blood type, Korrie would be a reliable donor. When she is not reading, you will most likely find her spending time with family, cooking, or watching amazing TV. Korrie is the founder of Korrie’s Korner, an online book nook experience where self-care is high on the priority list. This amazing environment built by Korrie is a space where you will find an entanglement of coffee, book recommendations and reviews, swoon-worthy character discussions, and entertaining live author interviews. Let’s chat with Korrie of Korrie’s Korner. Angela Anderson: How did you get started vlogging and/or podcasting? Korrie Noelle: I would have to say, The Outlander series is where it started. I discovered the TV show back in 2015. I later found out there were books and started vlogging my journey while reading. I quickly found out just how many fans there are of this beloved series. AA: Why did you start your podcast or vlog show? KN: I don’t really have a podcast, although I am looking into it. However, I consider myself more of an instablogger. I actively vlog and post entertaining videos on various social media platforms. AA: What makes Korrie’s Korner unique? KN: Let’s just say I keep it 100 % real, authentic, and me. I don’t share things I’m not passionate about and I feel like I attract those that need me. I love helping and encouraging others, and Korrie’s Korner is a place for me to do just that. AA: What are some of the behind-the-scenes of what is involved with making one of your live shows and author interviews? KN: Believe it or not, I just roll with whatever I do. I jot down a

few notes here and there, but for the most part, I love to just free-wheel it. AA: What aspect of your show is the most fun for you as a creator? KN: Real talk. The shenanigans. I don’t take myself too seriously. The shenanigans are actually a part of what makes the show so much fun. AA: What can a listener or viewer expect when they tune into a Korrie’s Korner live show? KN: Authenticity. What you see is what you get…a show with copious amounts of coffee, books, and self-care. AA: Since it is a new year, share a little about what you are looking forward to in 2022. Are you a new year’s resolution kind of person? KN: I’m not a new year’s resolution person, but I always have goals that I push for, and I’m a big fan of clean slates and fresh starts. I just want to spend more time living and be offline more. This year, 2022, is all about balance for me. AA: How can people stay connected with Korrie’s Korner? KN: They can find me on various social media platforms to include Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and Twitter.

Hollywood’s Legacy Chaser Interview by Lissha Sadler of Hardcore Grind
Keith Allen Hayes was born and raised in Atlanta, GA, the third oldest of nine. He is an author and an actor appearing in Oscar-winning movies such as “The Blind Side “with Sandra Bullock and “The Lost Valentine “with the legendary Betty White. Keith has also appeared in 26 Feature Films, multiple television appearances, videos, Interviews, Plays, and magazines since June 2001. Mr. Hayes has also written, Produced, and Directed his own projects. Very passionate about his craft Keith Allen Hayes is leaving a powerful mark and legacy in Hollywood with every step he takes. Lissha Sadler: A black man who writes is powerful. What does that power mean to you? Keith Hayes: The power means influence. The ability to reach and transform people, whether it’s the way they think or move in life. LS: What intrigues you the most about writing and storytelling? How does your creativity flow? KH: What intrigues me the most about writing and storytelling is the journey and adventure I go on for myself. Conjuring up what I have in my mind, the things I express and speak about, the ability to consummate it and put it in words. So someone else can read them over and over again. That is what fascinates me the most. My book will be here long after I’m gone. You know, it’s a weird thing because I pull inspiration from everywhere. It’s more so of an atmosphere thing for me than the feeling. When I did my first book, I was so excited about it. During the height of the pandemic, I was at home while we were on heavy lockdown. I had all these ideas and thought this would be the perfect time to write a book. But before everything shut down, inspiration would come from looking at other people, my adventures, and travels. LS: Do you ever get discouraged, and why? If so, what keeps you going? KH: Absolutely, I get discouraged because I’m human, but the trick is not to let that be the end all be all. Greatness is not just a word. It’s a behavior, a lifestyle, and something you have to continue working on. I often get discouraged, especially as a man, because I expect to see the progression and is not there. Some people don’t understand how it works because anything you worked for doesn’t happen overnight. You got to keep pushing that,
22
THE HEAT SEEKERS MAGAZINE
and the only way you will see the results is to continue pushing for progress. I define progress as the continuation of always moving forward, no matter what. LS: What other writers have influenced you the most and why? KH: Langston Hughes because I was taught about him at a young age and reading the stories he wrote. Also, Mya Angelou both impacted me because they reflected on me as an African American. And there are a few others out there, but they had the most significant impact on me. LS: Your latest book, “Your Time Is Coming,” Can you tell us what inspired this book? KH: This book is a combination of my experiences. So I don’t want people to read it like a blueprint to fix their lives. However, reading it with an open mind and understanding can help and inspire them. I’m not saying this is the blueprint.
I would like for it to inspire and push people in the direction of finding themselves and what they want to do in life. It’s not one of those kinds of books. It’s a combination of all my experiences, failures, highs, and lows, but I hope for people to read, they can draw from it. Whatever that could be, go for it. LS: You also have a children’s book. Can you tell us what inspired you to write that book? KH: My children’s book titled “If I Were President” was written when President Barak Obama was in office. It was a changing of the guards because we never saw an African American man representing the highest form of government. African American kids can now see if they put their mind to it, becoming president can now be added as one of their aspirations and dreams. I have two kids myself, and I want to encourage them to know they can go father in life than what I saw growing up. I felt that I had to do something for the kids, not just mine, but just for all of our youth. LS: How have you grown since the start of the pandemic? KH: I have learned how to be more patient with life situations, people, and circumstances. It’s so easy to get frustrated, definitely, with all of the things going on around us. Then just when we thought things were getting better, we were hit with Omicron. I’m still social, but it requires me to be more organized with my movements. I can’t be closed off and afraid to go outside. So it taught me patience, how to move better in my career and life. LS: If you could change anything about the literary industry, what would it be? KH: There aren’t that many African American publishers around. So if I had the power, I would have more African American Publishers. It took me a year to find a BlackOwned publisher, which amazed me because I thought there would be more. LS: What advice do you have for aspiring authors? KH: I would tell them that though you have aspirations to write a book, it is not easy, especially getting the first one done. I encourage aspiring writers not to do that. The other piece of advice would be when you are faced with writer’s block, don’t use that as an excuse to give up. Writer’s block can be fear-based for first-time authors, and it could hinder you from continuing. And when you catch that wave again, make sure that you have something near to record or write those thoughts. You can even take some notes on your phone, writing down those ideas and then transferring them to the book you are currently working on. You can even use that as a springboard to help you start your story.
LS: You are a very accomplished author and actor, now adding the titles of Screenwriter, Director, and Producer. What made you step into the film industry? KH: I always knew that I wanted to be—growing up watching movies and TV shows, I didn’t know how to go about it. Once I got serious about it and wanted to learn how I started getting with people, that showed me how to break into it. And as they say, “The rest is history.” I just expanded from that, and when I got into it and saw how everything worked, I thought, “You know what, I can do this.” So that lit the flame for me to branch out into writing, producing, and directing my own projects. LS: What are some of the challenges you have faced during this journey? KH: You know, it’s been a rewarding journey. And yet, the flip side is that it has been a challenging one as well. I had to get all the no’s before the yes’s occurred, and everything started lining up. With the people I know in the industry, I’ve been so blessed that casting directors reach out to my agent or me most of the time when a project comes up. I rarely have to do an audition. I’m grateful that They love my work, so when those opportunities come, if I feel the project is suitable for me after I research and read the script, then I’m on board. However, I don’t jump on everything. That lifestyle is good, but it comes with a price and sacrifice. Your dedication has to be like no other because this is not a fly-by-night career. You have to dedicate yourself to this dream. THE HEAT SEEKERS MAGAZINE
23
LS: If you could change anything about the film industry, what would it be? KH: Thats a tough one because even as it is now, there is a gamut of things, especially the way the industry is now. Suppose an actor is doing good work time and time again on projects. They need to be compensated properly for that, whether male or female. I’m going to be honest with you that the pay will be the one thing I would change, especially for African American actors and actresses. LS: What is a phrase or mantra you live by? Why? KH: “Love, Health, and Wealth” is essential to having a good life. There is no way to get happiness without love, and I mean healthy love, whether it’s towards your family, kids, significant other, friends, even enemies. You can’t love or live life properly because you’re not healthy in your mind, body, or soul. You can’t. You’re not physically or mentally capable of healing and being the best level of self you can be because you’re in the wrong mind frame, which hinders you from being physically healthy and happy. You need a healthy mind, body, and soul to be your healthiest or happiest. LS: Moving forward in your career, what can we expect from you next? KH: Well, as I stated earlier, I’m working on my third book, so be on the lookout for that I have no projected release date as of right now. I’m in talks for a couple of new film projects and a few new screenwriting projects this year. I’m also getting back on the stage doing some comedy, doing a couple of sets this year. Thats just a few of the things I have coming up. Stay connected with Keith Allen Hayes: Facebook: KeithAllenHayes Instagram:the_talent_kah Twitter:Keithallenhayes

Founder & CEO of TB Productions Interview by David R. Navarro
Teresa, thanks for taking time out of your day to talk to us. You are a busy woman! Tell us what made you decide to be serious about the entertainment industry? I started writing Christian fiction novels in 2016. From there I decided that my books were entertaining and could be performed on a stage. So the Play Producer inside of me was born and I had a good run with theater/ arts until Covid 19 hit. The notary received sparked a new following and several individuals were offering suggestions for music and film. At that point it only made sense to create a production company that would have all components of the arts entailed to ensure that I could touch ever faucet of the entertainment industry. I looked at it as a way to minister to others and help them to succeed as well in the entertainment industry. You have had great success over the years with all that you do. What is your secret? Lots of prayer and support. I don’t take any credit. I have to have individuals help me through this process, it is nothing I can do alone. The difference is my drive is fierce and I am just one of those people that truly believes I can fly as high as I want to if only I believe. I know it sounds dreamy or like a cliche but it has worked thus far for me. I’m not a quitter….I’m an overcomer. I wont stop until whatever it is I seek is fully achieved. You started off as a writer, then an author of a successful book series, a talk show host, a book and music distributor… the list goes on! Tell us about your media group, TB Productions. TB Productions is the big house for all my artistry. I created it so that I could not just get all my stuff off the ground but also to help others be successful too. I am always thinking of ways on how to help individuals in the community. It has not gone as planned due to the pandemic but it will one day. You host two amazing interview shows, Amplified Exposure LIVE and The Heat Seekers. You’ve interviewed so many impressive individuals. Everyone has favorites...
Can you tell us which interviews have been your favorites? My favorite interviews on Amplified Exposure Live were The Jackson brothers, Howard Hewett(Shalamar), and Cheryle Cooley(Klymaxx), Luenelle(comedian), and The Whispers. I know…a lot of favorites right? I have several more but I wont list them all. But if I had to pick an all time favorite it would definitely be The Jackson Brothers. I was star struck and amazed at myself that their manager trusted my ability to get it done. I was so honored and that will go down in history as one of my greatest accomplishments. Which people or books have had the most influence on your career and why? Victoria Christopher Murray, Kimberla Lawson Roby, and Jaqueline Thomas. All three ladies have assisted in some form or fashion in my writing abilities. As far as the other stuff I do….Harold Whaley with Sony Records was the mastermind behind my show, magazine, and television ideas. He took one look at me and said, everything you THE HEAT SEEKERS MAGAZINE

touch will turn to gold just follow these instructions. You are celebrating your 1 Year Anniversary with The Heat Seekers Magazine. How does that make you feel? I am so proud! It was not an easy task and each month it was challenging to ensure that everything was going to go smoothly with graphics and editorials. Each month a get a tinge of anxiety thinking how it will all pan out. But before you know it, it all comes together in a nick of time. My team members are awesome and I am so proud to be working with some of the greats in the literary world. What keeps you going when things get tough in the business? Hope. I try to stay positive and hope for nothing less than greatness. Now do I get scared or tired at times? Sure I do. But I have to keep going…I have a lot of people who believe in me and have pushed me forward. Its no time to give or turn back now. Talk about the biggest failure you’ve had. What did you learn from it? The biggest failure was pouring a large sum of money into a project that I knew probably wouldn’t work at the time. I didn’t know what I was doing but that experience taught me to research everything I do and touch before investing in it. It was a valuable lesson I learned. What advice can you give other individuals who want to follow in your footsteps? Strive to be great in all you do. Have the boldness and the confidence to keep pushing, move people out of your way, and demand your respect. Never let someone tell you that you cant do something that God has given you the ability to do. If you have a gift, mold it and shape it into greatness. Overcomers never quit, and quitters never overcome. What does a typical day in your week look like? I cant recall my days being typical. Lol I still teach online for a public school system as well as all the other stuff that I am noted for. Its tough and each day is a complete journey until I go to bed. I start my day at 6:30 am and sometimes I don’t hit my pillow until

The Jackson brothers had me drooling. I had to blink several times to make sure it wasn’t a dream and that they were really on my show. My goal is to interview Janet Jackson one day….now I might pass out if I meet her! What does the future hold for Teresa B. Howell? More shows, more books, more plays, more music, more magazines, more everything that is ingulfed with TB Productions. What else are you working on that you can talk about? I cant talk about anything that I’m working on. Lol People watch me to much so I just wait until I push out the finished product. Lol But just know that whatever it is..its going to be BIG!

The Power of Persevering to Bestselling Author Trice Hickman Interview by Angela Anderson
Trice Hickman is a self-proclaimed Southern girl at heart. This award-winning, bestselling author has currently penned 10 fiction books and is actively working on her next one. Her love of reading and the power that she recognized early in the written word ignited her inspiration to become a writer. Trice followed her heart and began pursuing her writing career. However, after receiving numerous rejection letters from agents and publishers, she found herself unpublished. Trice didn’t allow the noes to stop her. She was determined to bring her stories to life. She persevered and went full steam ahead and self-published her first three novels. Not long after, Trice landed a multi-book deal with Kensington (Dafina Books) where she is currently published. The Heat Seekers magazine had an opportunity to chat with Trice Hickman about her writing journey and her latest book release, Blindsided. Angela Anderson: When did you know that you wanted to become a writer? Trice Hickman: I want to start by saying thank you for this wonderful opportunity to be interviewed by The Heat Seekers magazine! This is an honor, and I’m greatly appreciative. Now, on to the question at hand! I have always loved reading and writing since I was a child, but it wasn’t until my sophomore year of college at Winston-Salem State University, that I thought about becoming a writer/author for my profession. I had enrolled in an advanced women’s literature course that focused on Black literary female writers and poets. After being introduced to legends like; Alice Walker, Toni Morrison, Zora Neal Hurston, bell hooks, and other amazing black women writers, I knew that writing was my calling. AA: What was one of the most surprising things you learned about yourself while writing your books? TH: That’s a great question! The most surprising thing that I learned about myself while writing my books, and what still surprises me today, is my ability to be laser-focused and singularly dedicated to completing my manuscript. Discipline is a learned art, and I believe that in order to complete a book, you must be able to master it time after time.
AA: What do you need in your writing space to stay focused? TH: The thing that I need most, in order to stay focused, is quiet. Sometimes I play soft piano music or meditation melodies in the background, but for the most part, I need a quiet, dimly lit environment to create a good writing mood. AA: Do you have any quirky writing habits or must-haves when you are in your writing flow? TH: When I’m in my writing flow, you will often catch me with a pencil clenched between my teeth, because I jot down ideas, mid-sentence, and it’s easy for me to place in there any in-between thoughts. My husband has seen me do this many times and he will shake his head smiling every time! THE HEAT SEEKERS MAGAZINE

AA: If you had to give one piece of advice to new authors, what would it be? TH: My one piece of advice to new authors (or to anyone who is following a long-held dream) is to be fearless. Fear is a killer of dreams and the fuel for procrastination. Fear can keep you stuck in places where you shouldn’t and don’t need to be. Whether you pray, meditate, use therapy, or all three, use the method that helps you conquer your fear and pursue what God has waiting for you. AA: What is one thing that most readers don’t know about you? TH: That I’m handy with a hammer. I love DIY projects and home repairs. My father was a general contractor, so I believe that’s where I get it from. AA: Ok, let’s talk about your latest book, Blindsided. What was the inspiration behind this story? TH: My inspiration behind Blindsided, was to continue the story of Bernadette, Tess, and Arizona (the main characters from, The Other Side), three ladies who are all at pivotal crossroads in their lives, in their search for happiness. I love the way they find strength from one another. AA: If you could describe this book in three words, what would they be? TH: Empowering. Significant. Strength. AA: What is next for Trice Hickman? TH: I’m currently working on the follow-up to Blindsided. I am also creating content for my lifestyle blog, Fabulous Southern Belle, which will be re-launched by February 2022! AA: What are you looking forward to in 2022? TH: The last two years have been extremely challenging, so in 2022, I’m looking forward to the pandemic being under control so that we can visit, fellowship, and live life in a safe and healthy way. I want to travel and spend more time with family and friends. AA: Trice, it has been such a pleasure interviewing you. How can reader fans stay connected with you? TH: I’m so glad you asked because I love interacting with readers and book clubs! People can stay connected with me through my website, www.tricehickman.com, or social media platforms on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Pinterest, by using the platform name followed by, /tricehickman. The Bad Boy Experiment Reese Ryan
When the right one comes along…Cole Abbott will not know what hit him. The Bad Boy Experiment is the sixth and final installment to the Bourbon Brothers series. Cole Abbott, the “Bad Boy Rebel” of the Abbott family finally gets his story. Cole and Renee Lockwood, an old high school crush and tutor, is the highlight of this intoxicating read. Years have passed and these two are fully grown and capable of making informed educated decisions. Renee is now a divorcee with a special needs son. She is back in town to make a new start for her and her son in hopes of purchasing the land of her grandparents and reviving the farm that was once there. She is focused and determined to accomplish her goals of being back home. She has no time for relationships, especially with Cole Abbott, even if he is a sexy, successful businessman, who is an “Adonis” in his own right. Cole, a wealthy real estate developer, has had his share of picks when it comes to women, but serious relationships and commitment are not on his radar. He is driven and determined to make his mark in the world and with his family, the owners of King’s Finest Distillery. That is until one Renee Lockwood shows back up to Magnolia Lake. It is a déjà vu experience. All it takes is one coincidental run-in at the local general store between Cole and Renee. Renee is breathtaking, a work of art worth appreciating. Gone were the coke bottle glasses and braces. The chemistry is definitely there, one with a lingering lasting effect. Neither can seem to stop thinking about the other. How can this be, it has been years since they saw each other. Cole and Renee, unknowingly have a common interest, and not just the interest of each other. They both have their eyes set on the unused land owned by Renee’s family. Renee’s grandfather gives them a proposal that should have sent them both running in the opposite direction. Especially, since they both have unspoken feelings and emotions that they are trying hard to suppress. They both are granted a piece of property to develop their chosen projects and prove which would be the better use for the land. However, these two may have bitten off more than they can chew. It is clear for all to see that they are attracted to each other. They are a match made in heaven; the perfect mixture blended to perfection when their two worlds collide. Being in a close proximity environment does not help. To add fuel to the already flaming fire, Renee proposes a no-strings-attached, friends with benefits ordeal. You would think that this would be perfect for Cole, the “bad boy”, but he is in for a rude awakening. Once bitten by the Renee bug, he finds himself battling with his heart and true feelings. He finds himself in a race to determine if it is worth winning. But first, is he up for the challenge of convincing Renee that he is ready to resign from being the renowned bad boy who is ready to settle down and be a part of her world. He is not the only one battling for his heart to remain intact. Renee has her own battles to face when it comes to matters of the heart. Can she stand in her truth when it comes to Cole? Can Renee handle the consequences of what comes with a no-strings-attached fling? After all, it was her who opened the door for such an agreement. The Bad Boy Experiment is a sexy, emotional, family drama romance at its finest. Reese Ryan did not disappoint with Cole Abbott’s story. It has all the elements of a hot, sexy, swoon-worthy bad boy meets his match kind of read. Let’s just say, you will have a whole new level of respect for Cole. I know I did. Although this is book six in the series, it can be read as a stand-alone, but trust me you will want to go back and devour the other five books if you have not done so. It is a bitter-sweet moment for me. I did not want this series to end, but I have a good feeling, this is not the last of the Abbott clan. I must add, if you enjoy good music, you will definitely want to listen to the Bad Boy Experiment playlist on Spotify. It is sure to give you a true listening pleasure experience. Just like the book, the playlist is fire. Consider it a bonus that is replay-worthy. It is evident that each song was carefully selected to create a total “Bad Boy Experiment” listening extravaganza. The Bad Boy Experiment is available where books are sold. To read more books by Reese Ryan or the other books in the Bourbon Brothers series, go to her website at www.reeseryan.com. Actor on the Rise Interview by David R. Navarro
David R. Navarro: Tell us a little bit about yourself? DeAngelo Bethea: I would describe myself as a relaxed individual. Being relaxed is one of the best feelings there is, and it usually leads to other good feelings like happiness and confidence. I am a proud dog owner of an English Bulldog named, Wynndel. I enjoy traveling to exotic beaches. Before the pandemic I traveled to 7 international beaches in 7 months! I’m into 90’s HipHop & R&B as well as 90’s grunge. I was Born in San Diego, California but call Albuquerque, New Mexico home. My Father was African-American and my Mother is Spanish so I come from a Bi-racial background. Oh, and I hate camping, so please don’t ask. DN: How long have you been in the film/fashion industry? DB: I’ve been modeling since my freshman year in College. I was approached by a Model-Scout after a performance & the rest is history. Being a model opened the door for commercials, designer runway campaigns, and editorial magazine shoots. This definitely built my self-confidence with being in front of the camera for Television/Film. My film career developed when I moved to Albuquerque. Right now there is a Filming BOOM in New Mexico so I feel extremely blessed to be in the position that I’m in with so many productions coming to town. There is some amazing talent in New Mexico and I’m so glad that it is finally being showcased for all the world to see. DN: What made you decide to be serious about acting and modeling? DB: It wasn’t until I experienced how far the acting/modeling industry could reach that i realized that what I’m doing could truly make an indelible mark on the lives of people from around the world. Magazine Ad’s, TV/Film, Campaigns are seen daily by a vast amount of human beings, the number is staggering. What an incredible way to influence someone in a positive, uplifting way. That is why each project that I take on has to really appeal to me with a beneficial human element because I’m putting my name on it, I want it to stand for something that I strongly believe in. I want each project I take on to make others happy and I don’t want to do a project for the money. Money may incentivize in the long run, but it does not make you happy day-to-day. DN: Tell us about your new film, “Happy Anniversary”. DB: The truth is, Happy Anniversary was born out of frustration with the TV/Film Industry. Booking a part on a major Film or

Television show is like winning the lottery! I experienced losing out on a couple of parts to other “name actors” and I entered into the dangerous world of self-doubt and insecurity. I grew tired of waiting for someone to make my dreams a reality so I decided to take matters & my dreams into my own hands and I started my own Film Production Company called - Zia Films Productions. I wrote the script, I directed the film, I produced and I starred in it as well. It was like my own personal “finger” to the industry for not allowing me to play with the big boys. Since making this film it has taught me so many invaluable lessons about the art of acting and film-making. First & foremost I learned first-hand how DIFFICULT it is to make a film. There are so many elements to it that it overwhelmed me. Everything from permits, budget, location, crew, scheduling, SAG-AFTRA contracts, casting, pre-production, post-production, sound, the list is eternal. But I was determined to do this film and I dit it. It became an obsession, a passion. To date, Happy Anniversary has won The Top Prize - Diamond Award for BEST NM SHORT at The MindField Film Festival. I also won the THE HEAT SEEKERS MAGAZINE

DN: Talk about the biggest failure you’ve had. What did you learn from it? DB: The biggest failure I’ve had so far was allowing fear, panic and insecurity to rule over me. This was extremely crippling to finding my true identity. I learned not to panic for too long, everything has a season. Fear and insecurity lead to missed opportunities. DN: What advice can you give other young men who want to follow in your footsteps? DB: Discontent is the seed of change. For those young men/ women out there who are unsure of the path that lie’s before them, allow yourself to take control of your own life. If you are unhappy with where you are it is up to you to change it. Life demands that you pick up the pace, If you don’t pick up the pace, life will leave you behind. Embark on a committed journey to discover your gift. Once you discover your gift, it brings you into new rooms of life. You can never learn your gift, you can only refine it. Do something each day that will better your craft no matter how big or small. Everyday ask yourself - “what am I doing to refine my gift? What am I doing to feed my gift”? Develop a habit of consistently working on your gift. Our habits decide our future. Choose your habits wisely. Photography by Dante Toussaint
Top Prize- Diamond Award for BEST ACTOR. The film has also Won BEST INDIE SHORT at The Las Vegas Film Awards. It was also accepted into the Chicago Film Festival. These accolades make the grueling process of making it so much sweeter. The story has managed to hit people where it matters most - the heart. It is a true love-story about betrayal, redemption and finding love again when you least expect it. The film features Sofia Embid, Frankie Mestas, Daryl Iris, Greg Ryan and myself. It will be available to the public this coming Fall after the Film Festival run. DN: Which people or books have had the most influence on your acting and modeling career and why? DB: I have been so blessed to have such a loving, kind, unwavering support group of very close family and trusted friends. My agents Lynette O’Connor & Deidre Michelle have undoubtedly had a tremendous impact on the upward trajectory of my career path. Also a BIG special thanks to David Navarro! I don’t know where I’d be without them. The books that I consider life-changing in regards to my career have been ‘In Pursuit of Purpose’ by Dr. Myles Munroe, ‘The Strasberg Method’ by S. Lorraine Hull & The Bible.

DN: What does a typical day in your week look like? DB: I start the day with meditation and coffee. From there I spend time with my dog, Wynndel. He has the cutest innocence about him that I adore. From there I head to the gym and I wrap up my day with working on my craft and business relations. DN: What keeps you going when things get tough in the business? DB: What keeps my going is burning desire. I have grown to embrace a deep seeded, strong sense of self. When things get tough in this business I use it as motivation and fuel to my fire. Adversity makes me work even harder. DN: Please list your website and/or your social media platforms. DB: My website is www.deangelobethea.com. Enjoyed lunch recently with a good friend at White Duck Taco Shop located in Greenville SC. It’s inside an old mill that’s been restored and a great place for families to hang out. Other shops are there too. But we were craving tacos and this was my first time. I loved the variety of choices this place offers with tacos! Definitely not your average taco restaurant. The flavors were amazing from a little taste of Greece, Thailand and Korea! The chips and salsa is pretty good too with three different choices of salsa. The location is hidden in the back roads close to downtown but the address of where it is located is at the Hampton Station at 1320 Hampton Avenue in Greenville SC. The name White Duck Taco Shop originates from a nickname the Chef earned when she frequently got excited and talked too much to the kitchen staff. They called her “La Pata Blanca” which means White Duck. I love trying different places and definitely will make a return visit. Robin Shockley - Legacy/Visionary Leader. Talk Show Host.
