Sleep Enrichment Programme

Deep sleep is an essential function and crucial for physical renewal, hormonal regulation, and growth that allows both body and mind to recharge.

Getting sufficient, quality sleep at the right times helps us to function more productively throughout the day. The lack of sufficient or restorative sleep affects virtually every aspect of life.

The Sleep Enrichment pillar is designed to help restore normal sleep levels, through measuring sleep quality and quantity by means of a consultation with a trained sleep guru, yoga session & breathing exercises, Vitamin IV infusion and health supplements, natural therapies, as well as a nutrition plan adapted to the needs of the individual.

hidden gem on the italian riviera CENOBIO DEI DOGI

If you are looking to relax, unwind and enjoy the beauty of the Ligurian Riviera, then this upscale property is the perfect place to hang your hat. The hotel is nestled on one end of the quaint stretch of beach bordering the colorfully-painted fishing village of Camogli (pronounced CAH-mol-yee).

Surrounded by Nature

As you approach the entrance, you are immediately drawn into the contrast of colors: blue skies above, a bright yellow building with emerald green shutters, and terracotta tiled walkways flanked with flowering plants. To your left sits a second building, painted blush pink with yellow trim.

The entire grounds are a nature-lover’s paradise. Neatly trimmed bougainvilleas, soaring palm trees, blooming rose bushes, potted plants and lovely statues vie for attention. The views from every point of the property are

stunning, with the Golfo Paradiso (Golf of Paradise) in the foreground and the glistening shores of Genoa in the distance. The backside of the property is flanked by ragged cliffs, dotted with popular hiking trails.

The expansive grounds are impressive, especially considering how packed together the rest of the buildings along the town’s beachfront are. I loved stolling the property and stopping on each perch or patio to take in the sweeping views. I breathed in the salty air, and before long, my worries melted away as I started to embrace the Italian’s slower way of living.

For an afternoon of true relaxation, take a refreshing dip in the heated saltwater pool. If you prefer the beach, you’re in luck! Cenobio dei Dogi has their own quiet stretch of private pebbled beach where your lounge chair and umbrella await. When you’re ready for a refreshing beverage, sweet treat or savory snack, you don’t have to

go far. The Il Chiosco serves its beachside guests from 11 am until 8 pm seasonally.

Friendly and Attentive Staff

One of the things I love most about Hotel Cenobio dei Dogi is the way the staff greets you when you arrive. I felt like I was a family member returning from a long trip away. Check in was a breeze and as I collected my keys, my bags were whisked off to my room and waiting when I arrived.

As you enter the main lobby, you’ll see comfortable seating areas strategically placed to encourage conversation. The atmosphere is elegant and airy. Here is where you’ll find the Il Doge Bar and a large open space filled with round tables set between arched columns, with a stately grand piano on one end. You might even catch a glimpse of guests froliking in the outside pool through large underwater windows.

Savor an afternoon aperitivo inside or find a table on the patio outside and take in the fresh air and unparalleled view. Your refreshing spritz or local wine will be accompanied by a plateful of delicious snacks. Elegant and Sophisticated

Hotel Cenobio dei Dogi has 103 well-appointed rooms, each uniquely decorated in subtle tones of blue, gold, cream or gray. High ceilings, intricate parquet floors,

fine draperies and refined wood furnishings created a striking first impression.

You can choose between standard or classic rooms or opt for a spacious suite. You’ll be able to choose a garden or sea view, some with a balcony to watch the sun set over a scene of flickering lights and swooping birds.

Each room is equipped with satellite TV, Wi-Fi, minibar, tea kettle and daily housekeeping. The beds are incredibly plush and comfortable with soft, white linens. If you are traveling with friends, most of the king-sized beds can be prepared as two singles.

Bathrooms are well appointed with marble tile, bidet, hair dryer, magnifying mirror, heated towel rack, luxurious bath products and either a shower or tub.

Hotel History

The history of this property dates back to 1565 when the powerful Dogi Family built their vacation villa on the side of Portofino Mountain. They named it “Castellaro” and this stunning home became not only their vacation get-away, but a respite from their government duties.

Since the Dogi family often hosted priests and cardinals, they built a small, ornate chapel on the property. This gorgeous structure in its original form still stands today.

At the end of the 18th century, the villa passed into the hands of the Tassari family, who split the property into two distinct villas. The family occupied the seaside structure and sold the other to the De Ferrari family.

In 1920, both villas were acquired by nature-loving Emilio De Ferrari, who decided to turn them into a luxury hotel. The doors opened in 1956 and people from all over

the world have flocked to this seaside retreat ever since.

Lots of Dining Options

As the sun sets on another perfect day in Italian paradise, head to one of three restaurants on the property.

Choose Il Doge Restaurant for a fine dining experience. As you take in the striking views from the wall of windows, you’ll be served delectable Ligurian dishes prepared to order by the chef and his staff.

This is the same room where you’ll savor a fresh brewed espresso and massive breakfast buffet each morning of your stay. Included in the room price, you can choose from an expansive array of traditional favorites, such as sweet pastries, savory breads, fresh fruits, yogurt, granola, focaccia, cheeses, eggs and cured meats.

Another dining option is La Playa, where you can experience a candlelit dinner overlooking the hotel’s private beach. This cliffside restaurant serves dinner from May to September. Opening each season in June is La Terrazza Giulia. You’ll enjoy the same menu as Il Doge in a casual setting, either outside on the terrace or inside by the bar. Live music will accompany your delicious meal.

All of the restaurant menus contain an impressive selection from both land and sea as well as a variety of regional pasta dishes. As a vegetarian, I was impressed with the meatless options, including potato gnocchi, penne or truffle pasta and even a gourmet seitan burger. In addition, I was delighted to find one of the most comprehensive wine menus I’ve ever seen in Italy. Whatever your preferences, make sure to order one of the

incredible desserts!

For a fun group activity, inquire about the specialty cooking classes. You’ll be invited to join the chef in the kitchen as you prepare your preselected dishes. I was excited to make pesto-filled cappelletti from scratch as well as a huge Focaccia di Recco, which consists of two thin layers of crust filled with soft, gooey cheese. The Quaint Village of Camogli

Located a 30-minute drive south of Genoa, this beach destination is popular with European vacationers but isn’t well known to American tourists – yet!

The colorful oceanfront promenade is lined with charming shops, filled with goods crafted by local artisans. Savor a coffee or gelato while watching the children play kickball in the square or head up the stairs behind the harbor to take a look at Castello della Dragonara (Dragone Castle).

While you’re there, take a peek inside the Church of Santa Maria Assunta. The unassuming exterior belies the exquisitely detailed Baroque interior, complete with gold bladed stucco, beautiful frescoes and tiered crystal chandeliers.

If you decide to forgo the hotel’s private beach and join the locals and tourists on the shore, you can rent a boat, paddleboard or sea kayak from several stands located right on the pebbled beach.

A quick stroll to the opposite end of the promenade will bring you to the harbor, where you can watch as the local fishermen unload their daily catch. Their fresh bounty will end up on the menus of the cute restaurants that border the inlet.

This is also the harbor where you can catch a daily ferry to the Abbey of San Fruttuoso, a must-see stop accessible only by boat or hiking trail. Once there, another ferry can take you on to Portofino for an afternoon of shopping, dining or exploring. I highly recommend the easy hike to Castle Brown, where you’ll have the most incredible views of the area.

In 30 minutes, you’ll be high above Camogli in the quaint village of San Rocco, where a gorgeous church sits in the center of town. For serious hikers, you can continue on to the Abbey of San Fruttuoso or Portofino, with its history of catering to the rich and famous.

Multi-Service Property

The hotel offers an extensive array of services, including luggage storage, safe deposit boxes and free

private parking for those arriving by car. If you don’t have your own vehicle, the concierge can arrange for a car to meet you in Genoa.

However, the easiest way to arrive at Hotel Cenobio dei Dogi is by train. Once you leave the station, simply cross the street and take the elevator to the street below. Walk a short distance to your right and you’ll be at the door of this impressive property.

If you’re traveling with your furry friend, you’ll be happy to hear that Cenobio dei Dogi welcomes any size pet at no extra charge. If you’re a parent who wants a night on the town, the hotel staff can arrange for a sitter to watch after your little ones for a fee.

The friendly concierge can arrange all sorts of fun day excursions. Travel by boat, train or car and visit the best sites this area has to offer. It is important to note that the hotel (and Camogli in general) has a lot of stairs and some areas may be difficult to navigate for differently-abled people.

For those hosting meetings, celebrations or other special events, they have an entire team to help you plan the perfect experience. Choose from one of 7 conference rooms, which can accommodate 20 to 200 guests. Each room is equipped with the latest conference technology.

Weddings are especially popular at Cenobio dei Dogi. Leave it to the competent staff to arrange everything, from the ceremony to the elegant reception, complete with the perfect menu for your special day.

And last but certainly not least, when you’re ready to pamper yourself even more, the hotel has a boutique spa where the competent Gabriella specializes in a variety of treatments. The menu includes customized massages, luxurious facials, body scrubs and wraps, nail services,

waxing, and even makeup (perfect for the bride-to-be). The spa is open 1-8 pm each day with morning services available by appointment.

EXPERIENCING CHARLESTON

finest of southern charm

There’s only one true coastal city in the United States that con ceptualizes historical southern charm with quintessential beach life- Charleston, South Carolina. It’s known to be one of the most beautiful cit ies in the country and it’s no wonder why it’s so popular with travelers all over the world.

From its delicious cuisine, style and charming streets, seaside adventures, and deep historical roots, Charleston is the perfect destination for a weekend get away.

THE BEST TIME TO VISIT:

As a popular vacation destina tion, there really is no bad time to visit Charleston. For beach-goers, Charleston is perfect right before and after the tradi tional summer season (right before memorial day and right after labor day). You’ll get the best of what the summer months offer without the peak season price tag and the unforgiving humidity.

For those wanting to truly explore the city for all it has to offer, I strongly suggest booking your trip during late fall or early winter. I traveled to Charleston at the beginning of December and it was perfect.

It’s not too cold and not too hot unless you plan to be out at night and then you need a sweater and jacket to keep you comfortable. In December, Charles ton highlights its holiday decor and the entire vibe of the city is sure to put you in the holiday spirit while enjoying its robust history and charm.

THINGS TO DO AND SEE:

Visit Rainbow Row: Rainbow Row is Charleston’s most iconic street with its 13 colorful Georgian Town homes. The architecture is unreal and a must-do during your visit. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes to walk around and see the beauty of it all. If it appeals to you, join a walking tour to see and get the story behind the man sions and even haunted mansions. If you’re feeling even

more adventurous, book a walking ghost tour and see Charleston from a completely different lens.

See the iconic Pineapple Fountain: The Pineapple is a symbol of hospitality. Back in the colonial days, true hospitality and generosity were hard to come by, and thus the pineapple became a symbol of true southern charm. If you were a guest in someone’s home, the pineapple was a sign of wealth and great hospitality. The Pineapple Foun tain is a visual representation of the hospitality of the city and you’ll never feel more at home than a cozy stroll midafternoon to slow down a busy day.

Walk King Street: King Street is one of the main and popular roads in downtown Charleston. Upper King

40 WWW.THEHOTELGUIDE.COM

has a more lively scene for new restaurants and nightlife, while the Southern part of the street has more shops and restaurants. You’ll want to see and experience all of it. When walking these streets, you’ll catch yourself feel ing moments of deja vu and you might remember seeing these surroundings somewhere else. King Street has been a trendy film location for major motion pictures for decades.

You might want to do a little research before you go and see which of your favorite movies have been filmed here. One of my favorites is definitely the Notebook and it made my walk through King Street so much more surreal and nostalgic.

Visit a plantation: Visit ing a plantation is a must if you come to Charleston. Al though plantations have a sad history, you’ll learn so much from this experience and you really won’t regret it. I visited the Magnolia Plantation and Gardens (Magnolia) which honestly was something I’ve never experienced before and really enjoyed it.

Founded in 1676 by the Drayton family, Magnolia Plantation has survived the centuries and witnessed the history of our nation unfold before it from the American Revolution through the Civil War and beyond. It is the old est public tourist site in the Lowcountry and the oldest public garden in America. Magnolia has been selected as one of “America’s Most Beautiful Gardens”, and is the only garden honored with this distinction in the State of South Carolina! The breathtaking views of the gardens and the knowledge I gained about a piece of our country’s history, it was absolutely a highlight of my trip.

WHERE TO STAY:

Charleston is full of beautiful hotels. From name-brand resorts to chic boutiques, bed and breakfasts, and insane Airbnbs, your stay will absolutely permeate southern style reimagined.

Here are a few perfect options:

The Emeline: I loved every inch of this place. Make sure to get a drink outside by the lights and fireplace. You’ll feel all of the southern charm here.

Zero George: Classic but the ultimate southern chic. You won’t want to leave this place.

The Ryder Hotel: Surf meets Southern. Everything is clean, modern, and classy.

WHERE TO EAT: Charles ton cuisine is something else so go with an appetite and experience it all. From fresh oysters to churro do nuts, they are operating on another level here. Far from your basic shrimp and grits, Charles ton deserves a spot amongst the great est gourmet capitals of the United States.

Some of my favorite eats are below:

Darling Oyster Bar,167 Raw, Husk, Basic Kitchen, Obsti nate Daughter, and Felix.

Charleston left me wanting more so I will definitely be visiting again soon. If you are going there solo, or with your girlfriends or even with your family, you will have the best time because it’s that special.

There is something for everyone and every type of getaway. But again, it’s unique and it’s the one and only destination for true ‘Southern Charm.’

THE EDGE OF ADVENTURE

inspiring humanitarianism

Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Adam Asher, and I’m host and creator at The Edge of Adventure. It’s an honor to serve The Hotel Guide as a contributing writer. I am certainly in great company here, and the opportunity to share these moments with you is something I look forward to as each new edition of the magazine is published. I value and ap preciate your time. I extend my gratitude to you and to the Publisher, Edward Leos.

Inspiring...

The Edge of Adventure exists to bring honor to inspir ing humanitarian organizations, highlighting their efforts worldwide to care for those in genuine need. We make films and podcasts that feature their work. We even have a mobile app and community called Rugged Compass that I invite you to download and join. Through it all and with everything we do, our aim is to share true stories of tremendous hope. And we do so at a time in history when

hope is desperately needed.

We do so because we believe that the work being done by these humanitarian organizations is worthy of recog nition. It matters. Their acts of kindness and service are worthy of respect. Day in and day out, people around the globe are giving of their time, energy and resources. They do this because they have chosen to live for something bigger than themselves. They have chosen to dedicate their lives to serving others. The truth about the difference they are making is such good news, and we need to hear it. Because we need to get involved—for two reasons.

Givng Back

First, our own gifts of time, money and knowhow are vital to the work they do. When we get involved, when we help and encourage and give, it equips these organiza tions to do even more. It keeps them going. It shows them that we recognize the value of what they do and that we’re with them. It says they’re not alone.

42 WWW.THEHOTELGUIDE.COM

Second, when we choose to partner with them, to help them accomplish their different missions in the world, something amazing happens … to us. When we make that simple decision to give somehow and to do so sacrificially, the biggest change that occurs is in us. We need to hear these amaz ing stories of good news because we too are in need. We’re in need of perspective.

You’ll find our brand new documentary film on a variety of great streaming platforms around the world, including Amazon Prime Video, Plex, and many others.

We’ll even be on Tubi in the coming weeks. You’ll find the podcast on top-notch platforms like Apple, Google and Spotify. Details and links for all these can be found at TheEdgeOfAdventure.com.

I in vite you to watch and listen. As you do, I know you’ll find these stories inspiring. I think they’ll brighten your day. I think they’ll

renew your hope. But if I could ask one thing: Don’t let it stop there. Give some thought to how you could get involved in some way somewhere. They need it. And so do you.

In celebration of National Pizza Month in October, Experience Columbus is launching a new Colum bus-Style Pizza Trail designed to help visitors and locals alike discover pizza that’s uniquely Colum bus style.

spooky season is around the corner SAN DIEGO

Spooky season is just around the corner, so what better way to celebrate than with some spirits? And for those scared of ghosts and ghouls, there’s no need to fret because there’s nothing scary about these spirits. San Diego’s nickname “Capital of Craft” extends far past beer and cocktail programs to an array of liquors, including whiskey, gin, vodka, rum, agave spirits and more, brewed right here in San Diego.

Whether curious travelers prefer a traditional tipple — dark or clear — or fancy an experimental liquor brewed with pomegranate or pumpkin, there’s a place to punch up everyone’s drinking agenda.

From the head brewer at one of San Diego’s famous breweries, Ballast Point Brewing, comes Cutwater Spirits with an award-winning portfolio of spirits that include whiskey, vodka, gin, rum, tequila and liqueurs that are incorporated into canned cocktails available nation wide. Visitors can get their drink on at Ballast Point’s

50,000-square-foot distillery, tasting room and restaurant combo in San Diego’s Miramar neighborhood. Whiskey lovers should be sure to try the distillery’s Devil’s Share American Whiskey, rich in woody caramel and vanilla notes backed by hints of cinnamon, cardamom and lico rice.

A Cauldron of California Coastal Gin

Founded by two veterans of the microbrew and dis tilling scenes out of Salt Lake City, Storyhouse Spirits celebrates friendship, fun and the big taste of small-batch spirits in Downtown’s East Village neighborhood. The distillery offers an alluring lineup of locally crafted vod kas, gins and whiskeys, and their restaurant/tasting room boasts a range of creative cocktails and food, as well as periodic tours of the works.

Vodka Perfect for Vampires or Humans

Founded in 2017 by entrepreneur and distiller Laura Johnson, San Diego’s You & Yours Distilling Co. bills itself as California’s first destination distillery. It’s one of the first female-owned and operated distilleries in the United States. The distillery produces all of its small-batch canned and bottled vodka and gin in Downtown’s East Village, where visitors can sip on some aperitifs, too. Cre ated to bring people together over elevated cocktail experi ences, it does just that. Vampires with a sweet tooth who enjoy a creamy, vanilla-like sweetness with subtle hints of apple and pear should go for the Y&Y Vodka. The grapebased vodka has a satisfy ing texture, capped off by an elegant floral finish.

RIP (Rum in Peace)

Named for a rum-running schooner that supplied South ern California during Prohi bition, Malahat Spirits Co. distills rum and whiskey in its twin copper-pot stills. The distillery in San Diego’s Miramar neighborhood is a throwback to the days of Prohibition, when speakeasies were bus tling and liquor was hidden in local caves and basements.

Observant visitors will also see some props from a famous Hollywood movie as well as the San Diego Maritime Mu seum and Star of India. Spirit lovers will experience a sam pling of six of Malahat’s arti sanal spirits, including some that aren’t on the shelves, with seasonal surprises and experimental blends. The Spiced Rum is a can’t-miss for visitors just passing through. The taste is a unique blend of about a dozen natural ingredients with the richness of vanilla and cinnamon.

Not Very Frightening Fruitcraft

Fruitcraft in San Diego’s lively Hillcrest neighborhood is an employee-owned business launched by two broth ers to experiment beyond the grapes, apples, potatoes and starchy grains that are the basis for the vast majority of fermented and distilled alcoholic drinks. The establish

ment is an all-in-one kombuchery, cidery, meadery and distillery, making suds from pineapples, pomegranates, cranberries, mangos, pumpkins and blends thereof. While spooky season brings all things afterlife, Fruitcraft puts forth quite the opposite: Eau de Vie, French for “Water of Life,” gives visitors a taste of clear spirits distilled from fermented fruits.

Agave for the Afterlife

Distilled in quantities of 30 gallons or less, Seven Caves Spirits are “ludicrously” small batch. With a belief in crafting the finest distilled spirits using the best ingredi ents possible, Seven Caves is a true “grain to glass” San Diego distillery, meaning every drop of alcohol that leaves the shop comes to life at the distillery first. A visit to the tasting room provides guests with tastes of rum, gin, whiskey and the first of the exploratory series: the agave spirit. While not a traditional tequila, this spirit is unique to the world and a first in San Diego. No Need to be Afraid of this Absinthe

Born out of the idea of doing more by wasting less, ReBru Spirits takes unsold beer destined for the drain and repurposes it into spirits. ReBru is a one-stop shop for visitors seeking flights with out the frights. The distillery is located in Barrio Logan, San Diego’s artistic and industrial neighborhood with Mexican roots, in a Willy Wonka-esque warehouse that is also home to a craft brewery, wood-fired pizza restaurant, speakeasy and large indoor and outdoor events area.

Liquor lovers should be sure to try Rebru’s absinthe, made with real wormwood and delivering a sweet blacklicorice flavor accompanied by a light floral hint. The drink finishes with a tingling numbness from the angelica root and star anise.
