Things To Do Clay Cup Studios: Fun For All Ages

Effervescent and bubbly! Like a good champagne!

This transplanted artist/ entrepreneur from Miami has created a unique business in Downtown Galveston on 22nd St. between Postoffice and Market St. Her parents both worked for Pan American Airlines and were away from home almost constantly. As a consequence, Amy Owens was raised mostly by her grandparents. At 17 years old she had an opportunity to stay with friends in Austin, moved there and fell in love with Texas and Texans, whom she found to be extremely polite. At first, she had trouble with being called ma’am at 17, but noticed that she missed it when traveling in other states.

She thoroughly enjoyed the music scene in Austin, however, the siren call of the beaches and ocean was in her Miami blood. She chose, for this and other reasons, to attend TAMUG (Texas A&M University at Galveston) where she met her husband-tobe, who is now a member of the Galveston Police Department.

When her oldest son was 4 years old, as an island resident she was looking for things to do with her child. There were plenty of events and attractions for tourists, but she wanted something unique where mothers could spend time doing something interesting with each other and with their children. It struck her that the best way to invite conversation amongst all would be to sit around a table painting, just like sitting at the dining room table talking at meal time. This allowed the kids to do their thing, while their mothers enjoyed good conversation. It also allowed her to contribute something to her adopted community in conjunction with local businesses and residents.

With these things in mind, in June 2015, she opened Clay Cup Studios. At the studio, projects for Moms (and Dads) and their children include pottery and wine glass painting while sitting around talking. For Dads, in conjunction with one of her business associations, local craft brewery, Galveston Island Brewery, Dads are encouraged to paint their growlers and take them to the brewery and tap room on Stewart Rd. to get them filled.

Clay Cup Studios hosts many bachelorette parties. The parties are held in a separate room where wine glass painting, and wine brought by the group, intermingled with conversation and laughter, creates a delightful time for the participants. Women can also bring wine and food anytime they like during the daytime. Special wine nights for groups can also be arranged. For those who do not want to supply their food, Clay Cup Studios has many relationships with local businesses, including Hey Mikey’s, Galveston Island Brewery, The Kitchen Chick, Tin Cup Bar and Driving Range, Maceo’s Spice Company (home of the muffuletta), and Mama Teresa’s Flying Pizza. In fact, 98% of Clay Cup Studios suppliers are local.

Welcoming teens is part of her program. They are encouraged to just hang out, but if they wish, then creativity can lead to art therapy, giving them a quiet place, relieving some of the stresses associated with daily life. Amy encourages everyone to work from one simple thought and creating from that. Total absorption in a project that is a personal creation takes the focus away from problems. Her customer base is 95% local with an even split between children and adults. From her point of view, she is providing a messy room away from home where families can converse while creating artwork and enjoying the conviviality of their family and others in a non-smoking environment.

The space occupied now was once a restaurant and before that a Subway outlet. It had not been used for years after Ike hit it. Amy did many of the renovations herself with her husband’s help, wielding a jackhammer, putting up walls, and adding

rooms and cabinets. Her mother and a friend are 50% silent partners. Amy is solely responsible for running the business, and it has been successful because of her hard work.

She would like to increase her traffic because she has a goal of supporting her parents in their retirement and wants to be able to give more to Galveston, the community she loves, in addition to her program of Kindness Murals children paint around town for the benefit of less well-off children. She thinks that Clay Cup Studios has a lack of exposure because of its island location. Her mainland competition with its larger customer base is able to develop a brand name. To help counter that she hopes to obtain a beer and wine license in the future and develop further associations with local restaurants for providing catered food. At the present time, she houses many artists but wants to do even more for the art community and the community in general. She has reached out to all members of the community and last year held a ceremony for those of the Jewish faith who do Bible studies during Hanukkah and Passover.

In addition to the walk-in environment she encourages for mothers, fathers, teens, and children, she holds monthly social events. Some are general but others will focus separately on children, pre-teens, family, or adults.

Each month she holds art classes that will concentrate, for example, on countryside scenes one month, caricatures the next month, or any myriad of other art platforms. Associated with each of these events, Amy has a guest contemporary artist to demonstrate and guide the classes.

On children’s night, she holds canvas classes for 5 to 9-year-olds where they can paint a themed canvas any way they like. This month’s theme, for example, was for Father’s Day with a car outline for the children to paint.

On pre-teen night, kids can come in and hang out or paint on canvas or clay models.

Family night is held Tuesdays. Each family sits around a table, talking and painting figurines or whatever else they want, getting to spend time with each other. For families, there is also Date Night, where for $45 each family is given one large project to do together, interacting, conversing, eating, and drinking.

For adults, there are many events including ArtWalk with wine and sangria on the house, glass painting, Bachelorette parties, special events for United Way, an event for UTMB professors and students four times per year, Sorority groups, Growler Night, Glass Fusion (where people get to wear goggles and use tools to break glass and make the pieces into platters, plaques, beer mugs, or other objects) pottery making, and even making wood signs with your favorite sayings, pictures, or caricatures.

Antique Eyeglasses This month Rosenberg Library will exhibit

an assortment of antique eyeglasses from its permanent collection. The glasses, which range in date from the early 1800’s to the 1940’s, were gifts of the following donors: Rose Smith, Mrs. A.W. Dunham, Ethel B. Buckley, Mrs. W.B. Cook, Mrs. Edward R. Thompson, Lise Darst, and the Morgan Family.

Eyeglasses are believed to have originated in Italy during the late 13th century. Early glasses were essentially two magnifying glasses riveted together with an attached handle to hold in front of the eyes.

Frame styles, which included sides held in place behind the ears, emerged in the early 1700’s and are still the most prevalent type used today. During the 19th century, a frameless style known as pince nez was popular. French for

“pinch nose,” pince nez glasses were held in place by fitting snugly on the bridge of the wearer’s nose.

Prior to the 1940’s, eyeglasses were considered more of a burden than a fashion statement. Glasses were often associated with physical frailty or old age. However, developments in the manufacture of plastics greatly influenced the eyewear industry. The use of plastic frames allowed for endless shape and color options. As a result, glasses evolved from a medical device into a style accessory. Today, many top fashion designers produce their own eyewear lines.

The Treasure of the Month is located on the second floor of the Rosenberg Library, 2310 Sealy Ave., near the East Entrance. Dolphins, Dolphins Everywhere

The Grand’s Performing Arts Season

“Every time I see a dolphin I get excited,” says Marlo Landreth. “I point and scream, it could be like the fourth time in an hour that I’ve seen them, but I will still be running up on the beach going, ‘Dolphins! Dolphins!’ even if there’s nobody else on the beach; it’s just my instinct. I will never ‘not’ be excited when I see a dolphin.”

The absolute joy of seeing wild dolphins is a rare treat for any beachgoer. And though these delightful and seemingly elusive creatures don’t follow a schedule, with a little planning, a few helpful tips, and a dash of luck, you can up the odds of a dolphin sighting for yourself and your family this summer.

Here are six ways to increase your chances of a wild dolphin sighting in Galveston.

1. Take a Harbor Tour – There are plenty of these tours to choose from. Just walk across Harborside to Pier 21 and you’ll find several kiosks to welcome you. Baywatch is a popular dolphin sighting tour, and they have boats leaving every hour through the summer. These tours will tell you up front there’s never a guarantee that you’ll see dolphins, but with the help of these trained experts, and the benefit of smoother water, you’ve got luck on your side.

2. Kick back and watch the water – Whether you’re waiting for a harbor tour, or just waiting for happy hour, head over to Olympia Grill and ask for a table on the patio. Patience is your friend when it comes to seeing wild dolphins. If you’re on the other side of town, grab a spot on the deck at Jimmy’s on the Pier.

Marlo Landreth, of SUP Paddleboards says, “They’re always out there. As far as it is from the shore to the end of the pier, if you double that, that’s normally where we see them. So if you went out twice as far as the pier, that’s where you’ll see them. They will be jumping out of the water, and I’ll look around and nobody’s watching, so nobody sees it. I can’t imagine how many times it’s happened, and I just don’t see it. You just have to take the time to stop and look. They’re out there.”

3. Ride the ferry – You can’t get much better than free! Park on the Galveston Island side and walk on. Ride across to Bolivar and back and keep your eyes peeled. Landreth says, “Watch where the birds are. Usually where the birds are feeding on the surface there’s dolphins feeding underneath. If I’m out with a group and we’re looking for them, I’ll just wait and look for the birds. It’s not foolproof, but it’s a good way to start.”

4. Be an early bird – Attend a sunrise yoga class on the beach with The Yoga Haven. Or check out the surf camps offered by Ohana Surf & Skate Shop. “Early morning, like daybreak, that’s usually when their feeding occurs or when they’re finishing their feeding,” says William “Boog” Cram of Ohana. “But typically once the sun breaks the horizon you can see them pop up, and they’re kind of patrolling just outside of the jettys. Occasionally they’ll come on the inside during camp on real smooth water days, and they’ll be maybe twenty yards from the kids that are surfing.”

5. Get in the water – Throw on a bathing suit and head over to SUP Paddleboard on the beach near the 29th St. jetty. “Anytime I’ve ever done a paddle or a lesson where I’m out there for an hour, we see a dolphin, at least one,” says Landreth. “I like the more organic ways of seeing dolphins. I think it’s more exciting when they do come when it’s not expected. Like when we’re doing

time for families throughout Texas, and this year the beach is just the beginning of what the island has to offer. From trolleys and replenished beaches to upgraded and new attractions, visitors have plenty of reasons to head to Galveston this summer.

Here’s a look at what’s new in Galveston for the summer: Old-fashioned Trolleys Return to Galveston Getting around Galveston is a lot easier – and more charming – this summer with the return of the island’s old-fashioned trolleys. The trolleys are in place, offering routes along the Seawall and Downtown to provide easier access to main tourist attractions. The rubber-wheel trolley system was previously offered in Galveston before Hurricane Ike. The service will operate seven days a week from 10am-10pm.

The stops include seven stops Downtown, a ride down 25th St. where riders will transfer to the Seawall Trolley, and stops all along the Seawall from Stewart Beach through to Moody Gardens. Trolley fares will be free for the summer.

Galveston to Sport Beach Makeover, New Seawall Amenities Galveston is sporting a brand new beach makeover! Four miles of replenished beaches along the seawall between 12th and 61st St., provide upgraded and expanded recreational space for visitors. The makeover is part of a $19.5 million beach nourishment project. In addition, the seawall is offering new amenities, including restrooms, outdoor showers, and beautified landscaping. The Moody Gardens Aquarium Pyramid offers a variety of new exhibits and surprises, including the addition of jellyfish and tropical penguins. Giant Obstacle Course at East Beach Giant Jenga blocks, huge dominoes, and sandcastle showdowns are on the island now at East Beach. The Galveston Family Beach Challenge, takes place monthly throughout the summer and transforms a portion of East Beach into a gigantic obstacle course, allowing families to compete in life-size versions of classic games.

The course will include eight stations, featuring family favorites like Jenga and dominoes, as well as tug of war, sandcastle building, beach volleyball, foot golf, sack races, and more.

Island Treasure Hunts offers three scavenger hunts that highlight different areas of Galveston. Current tours are Scavenger on The Strand (Strand, Tremont, Pier 21), Hysterical Historical Hunt (Postoffice, Mansions, Strand), and Seawall Stroll (Hotel Galvez, Pleasure Pier, Seawall). Island Paddle is hosting it’s 5th annual Battle on the Bay, held Saturday, August 26th at Moody Gardens, 1 Hope Blvd.

August 12th - Galveston Sand Crab 5K, 10K, and Kid’s Beach Mile - Start and finish at East Beach in Apffel Park. Run entirely on sand, the Sand Crab is a great way to get a little exercise under the stars on a beautiful Galveston Beach at night and have a few beers and other refreshments while listening to great music with other runners on a summer night. All races are chip timed including the Kid’s Mile. The Kid’s Mile will start at 8pm. Parents are welcome to run with kids free of charge. The 5K/10K will start at 8:30pm. The 5K run is very walker friendly with a two hour cut off. The 10K is walkable but will share the two hour cut off. 10K runners must be at the 3.1 mile turnaround within one hour. The Bucket Brigades:

Explore the Beaches for Free

In Galveston, digging in the sand isn’t just for building sand castles. Thanks to The Bucket Brigade program, sponsored by Artist Boat and the Galveston Park Board, the beach can be an exciting classroom where participants can learn about the important relationship between the coastal ecosystem and the people who visit it.

Join the fun at these free Bucket Brigade Interpretive Beach Tours and explore the creatures and features that make Galveston’s coastal and marine ecosystems so special.

Tours last approximately one hour and involve hands-on activities to give visitors an appreciation for Galveston’s beaches. Bucket Brigade Tours explore questions such as: “Why is the water brown?” “How is sargassum a good thing?” and “How do I connect to the ocean?”

“In Galveston, the beach’s ecosystem is teeming with life,” said Artist Boat Executive Director Karla Klay. “We believe that the more the public knows about how humans are connected to the marine environment, the more likely it is they will become good stewards of it.”

Bucket Brigade tours are offered WednesdaySunday throughout the summer. The 45-minute tours are held at 9:30am, 10:30am, 11:30am, 1:30pm, 2:30pm, and 3:30pm.

Tours are offered at a variety of locations along Galveston beaches, including at Stewart Beach (Beach Patrol Tower 6) and 61st St. (Tower 61).

Sign up is on location, with a maximum of 20 participants per tour. Larger groups are welcome with advanced notice. Those wishing to participate can sign up for a tour near the lifeguard station at the tour location, where you will see the Bucket Brigade Tours sign.

The Bucket Brigade, in conjunction with the Galveston Island Park Board of Trustees, provides free interpretive tours to beach-goers on Galveston Island. The Bucket Brigade’s goal is to increase public understanding of the positive role of sargassum and turbid water in the marine and coastal ecosystems.

Bucket Brigade will also highlight the impact everyone can have on coastal ecosystems through marine debris and pollution, and has the potential to directly impact thousands of visitors including those from far away and right here in the Galveston Bay watershed.

Tours last approximately one hour and involve hands-on activities to give visitors an appreciation for Galveston’s different but not “dirty” beaches.

SeaSeaStar Base Galveston Summer Camp Star Base Galveston will host a series of Learn to Sail Camps for students 13–17 years of

age beginning July 10th. Day or Resident camp options are available.

Registration is now open for Learn to Sail Summer Camp at Sea Star Base Galveston. Campers will learn to sail, receive a US Sailing Student Membership, earn Basic Keel Boat Certification, Texas Boater’s Education Certification, participate in S.T.E.M. activities, the US Sailing REACH Program, visit the Seaport Museum, and enjoy swimming and on the water activities. Summer Camp dates are July 10th-15th; July 17th-22nd; and July 24th-29th.

Campers have the option to attend during the day or to lodge at Sea Star Base Galveston for the week. Tuition for Day Camp, 8am-5pm, is $485 per student and includes lunch. Resident Camp, $735 per student, includes all meals and lodging. The Base is secure and completely ADA compliant.

Sea Star Base Galveston is a high adventure marine and maritime destination offering aquatic education programs that instill lifetime leadership, teamwork skills, and independence in body, mind, and spirit. Volleyball Association (GCVA) is the largest outdoor volleyball association on the Gulf Coast and has been rated the #1 outdoor volleyball organization by Outdoor Volleyball USA. The GCVA features an array of high-flying scheduled tournaments at Stewart Beach and East Beach, two of Galveston Island’s premier beach parks. Don’t miss out on the fun!

Saturday, July 15th (3-5pm) - “Galveston Seawall Chronicles” by Kimber Fountain Galveston Bookshop will host a book signing for local author Kimber Fountain with her history of Galveston’s Seawall, its construction, and subsequent impact on the city’s tourist trade and economy.

Along Galveston’s Gulf Coast runs a seventeen-foot-high, ten-mile-long protective barrier, built in response to the deadliest natural disaster in U.S. history. The seawall remains a stoic protector more than a century later, shielding the island from much more than physical destruction. As the foundation of Seawall Boulevard where motorists and beach-goers enjoy an unobstructed view of the Gulf, this structure created an entirely new tourism industry that buoyed the city’s economy through war, the Great Depression, and hurricanes. Adapting to the cultural trends and political movements that defined the past century, the seawall represents the unbreakable spirit of Galveston’s resilient population and provides a fascinating glimpse into bygone times.

Special Art Doll Exhibit:

Texas Association of Original Doll Artists Presents “Galveston, Oh Galveston”

Fourteen artist members of Texas Association of Original Doll Artists (TAODA) have joined forces to present “Galveston, Oh Galveston,” an exhibit of handmade, one-of-a-kind figures, also called art dolls, with a theme designed to highlight historical sites, tourist attractions, and annual events on the Island. The exhibit is on display at Galveston Art League Gallery, 2117A Postoffice St., June 29th-July 30th. The Gallery is open from 12 noon-6pm, Thursday-Sunday. The dolls in the show are available for purchase.

Artist members of TAODA work in various media including polymer clay, air-drying clays, fabrics, and fibers to create these unique artworks. From whimsical to wicked, pirate, beach bather, or alien swimmer, each piece in the “Galveston, Oh Galveston” exhibit highlights a current or historical Galveston location or event. The exhibit includes works inspired by the Hotel Galvez, East End Lagoon, The Strand, Tall Ship Elissa, Pier 21, and other sites and events familiar to Galveston residents and visitors.

Galveston Arts Center (GAC) presents two exhibitions in conjunction with PrintHouston opening Saturday, July 15th, 6-9pm with artist talks beginning at 6:30pm.

In the 1st floor gallery, Abhidnya Ghuge transforms wood-block printed paper plates into an immersive installation for the exhibition “Changing Perspectives.”

In the 2nd floor 1878 and Brown Foundation Galleries, “Collective Pulse” includes a selection of work by members of Burning Bones Press, a printmaking studio in the Houston Heights.

These exhibitions will remain on view through July 9th.

Changing Perspective Abhidnya Ghuge transforms disposable paper plates into immersive installations using wood-block printed patterns inspired by Indian henna designs, the microscopic and macroscopic world, and the current cultural landscape of America. Ghuge’s exhibition, “Changing Perspective,” celebrates these patterns and organic forms, while calling attention to the ephemeral nature of human experience.

Born in India and a dermatologist by previous profession, Abhidnya Ghuge is a multidisciplinary installation artist. Currently an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Art and Art History at the University of Texas at Tyler, her work can be found in collections throughout India and the United Kingdom.

Burning Bones Press Burning Bones Press is a printmaking studio in the Houston Heights, founded by Carlos Hernandez and Pat Masterson in 2011. The studio is a center of collaboration for artists working

in a variety of print media, including etchings, lithographs, woodcuts, screen prints and monoprints. The exhibition, “Collective Pulse,” features a selection of prints by studio members, co-organized by Keelin Burrows, Curator for The Printing Museum, Houston, and Dennis Nance, Curator for Galveston Arts Center.

Burning Bones Press is a printmaking studio which collaborates with artists to produce editions of original etchings, lithographs, woodcuts, screenprints, and monoprints. The studio also does contract, collaborative printing for other publishers, dealers, artists, and institutions, and is available on a limited basis for open-shop work by experienced artists. In addition, Burning Bones Press offers classes for the general public in screen printing, lithography, relief, monoprints and more.

More Information The galleries and the ArtWorks Museum Store are open to the public Tuesday-Saturday 11am-5pm, and Sunday 12 noon-5pm. Admission is free at all times.

For ArtWalk, The Proletariat Gallery will feature Houston artist Nicole Gavin. Painting in several styles including Surrealism, Fauvism, Figurative, and Pop Art, using bright colors and bold brush strokes give her art a unique symbolic vocabulary that visually translates a range of emotions rather than describing a scene.

He has now added original paintings to his line, as well as pillows, coasters, and pens with his photography beautifully printed. A New Sound in Town

On Saturdays, between the hours of 12 noon and 3pm at Oasis Juice Bar at Market on 25th St., you’ll find Will with a mic and an acoustic-electric guitar, playing a different sound. I was thrilled to hear more than three chords emanating from his unique Alvarez acoustic-electric guitar and a very pleasant, clean, and clear voice.

Will and I sat down over a smoothie after he finished his set, and he filled me in on all things “Will Lee Cheek.”

Will: I grew up in Houston, Texas. I started playing guitar when I was 6 years old, on a cherry red Epiphone Dot Archtop hollow body. At that young age, I put a band together with three kids of the owners of what was the Houston Flea Market that lived down the street.

In 6th grade, I formed another band with my longtime friend, Randy Wheless. We played sock hops and parties and even had a guy building custom crossovers and speakers for us, one of which caught fire at a gig!

Randy was also my roommate in the same fraternity in college at UT. “Not Really” was our band name in our college days in Austin. We had regular gigs on 6th St., and people would always ask us if we were a real band to which we’d answer, “Not Really.”

The name just stuck for some reason.

Austin was much nicer back then when Stevie Ray Vaughn was newly discovered, and Eric Johnson had been playing there for years.

I graduated University of Texas with a Radio, TV, and Film degree in Communication. My senior year, I worked at Music Lane Recording Studio, underneath the old Texas Opry House, where Willie Nelson later recorded. It used to be the food locker under the old Austin Country Club. Eric Johnson could be heard there as well, practicing in a room down the hall. In addition to working at the studio, for my credit hours at UT, I had the opportunity to record some there as well. I came back to Houston after the big crash of the late 1980’s, and I built houses for a long time. I’m now semi-retired.

stone and mother of pearl inlays depicting the nine planets. That guitar just ‘resonates’ and sort of writes music by itself. I just love it.

I’m 99% self-taught, though I had a few lessons along the way. I can read music, but mostly play by ear and can play along with anyone.

I like to write more complex, jazz based songs with invented dissonant 9th and 11th chords, although I’ll even throw in a polka when inspired. I typically write in pieces, with musical ideas logged at different times. I’ll record snippets on my phone as the inspiration comes, save them, then piece together things until the music fits.

Music first, lyrics later. I also sometimes write in different time signatures, such as 7/4 and 9/4.

Island Guide: When did you come to Galveston?

Will: I moved to Galveston at the end of 2014, so two and a half years ago. My wife and I live in a 106-year-old house on the east end. I simply love Galveston; the buildings and the architecture.

I’m a history buff, so it just makes sense to live here. I used to teach history at Crossroads school for autistic children in Houston and also taught math to kids who were struggling at Fort Bend ISD. I’ve taught everything, but really loved teaching history. My kids love Jean Lafitte and pirate stories.

Island Guide: Tell us about your electric band?

Will: The Rafters started in 2005 and have three albums to date.

We are an ongoing musical experiment to meld different styles of music, such as Southern rock, Blues, Jazz, and improvisational jamming, while in a unified format that promotes self-expression and spontaneous creation. The music The Rafters make is all about the creative process and providing a musical landscape that people can dance, smile, laugh, and heal with…sometimes out front and sometimes behind the scenes. It’s such a blast.

The Rafters have been seen and heard multiple times at Dan Electro’s Guitar Bar and Last Concert Café in Houston, and we look forward to more.

Island Guide: Tell us about your acoustic band?

Will: I formed Billy and the Regulators, to work on songs that just didn’t fit in with The Rafters’ sound. My buddy Randy is also playing electric guitar in this band. I typically play my Alvarez FCF7103 Fusion Chambered Folk Acoustic-Electric, which has one of the best ‘plugged in’ acoustic guitar sounds I’ve ever heard. We also have a great bass player, Drew Hevle, who alternates between fretted and fretless bass guitars. This band plays mostly country, traditional folk, and esoteric originals.

Prior to recording, I had just taken a trip to Santa Fe and found myself enamored with the Billy the Kid legend, so I wrote a couple of new songs about him. Hence, we released a CD in 2013 entitled “Ballad of Billy Bonney.” Notice the CD cover: a Stratocaster instead of a rifle! We recorded the CD in Houston and the cover art background is from a 1900’s era glued-down wallpaper we discovered behind the newer sheetrock in a Heights house I was renovating at the time. It was the perfect backdrop for the CD cover.

We have a radio show coming up on Saturday afternoon, July 22nd with Sandy Weinmann and the Deadbeat show. Tune in to KPFT 90.1 FM at 5pm.

Island Guide: Who are your greatest musical influences?

Will: My music influences range widely from Neil Young to

ballads, spirited melodies, and down-home fun.

I’ve always been amazed by their ability to create on the spot, take risks, make mistakes, and attack the unknown without a net.

Will: I plan on doing a solo album, with new originals and some more traditional covers. You can look forward to a recording of “Island Time,” a new original single about Galveston, coming soon.

Island Guide: What else would you like people to know about you and your music?

Will: I love all musicians, and I’m fascinated by the singularity of each one. We all bring different things to the table. I personally try to stay away from standard chords, except where necessary. I like to invent my own voicings, adding dissonance. I can’t help it, I create like that.

Saengerfest Park is known for having a large, playable chess set, a large compass that

can be used as a seat, wooden benches, an oldfashioned London-style phone booth, and a stage used for movie and music nights throughout the year.
