don’t know about you, but I sadly reached a point in 2020 where I almost forgot how great it felt to laugh. And while the events of 2020 are certainly no laughing matter, I do think it’s important we remember to find moments of joy even in the darkest times. Whether that’s bringing your friends and family together to celebrate your nuptials virtually, or cracking open that bottle of champagne you were saving for what should’ve been your wedding night, I encourage you to create those moments and surround yourself with those that make you happy. And while we’re not out of the woods yet as far as COVID-19 is concerned, I assure you that The Knot will be with you every step of the way with tips and advice, as well as all of the inspiration and ideas that make planning a wedding such a joyful experience—and hopefully bring you some happy.

HEATHER McMAHAN This woman is not only funny, but as a COVID bride herself, she has some sage advice for all of the other couples out there dealing with a wedding postponement: “Be kind to yourself, be kind to others and just be patient because nobody knows what the right answer is. We’re all just trying to stay safe and figure it out one giggle at a time. I just learned I drink a lot more wine than I used to.” Read more of our hilarious (yet insightful!) interview on page 50.

JAMILA DEBOW HAIR + MAKEUP ARTIST WH AT WERE YO U R BIGGEST BEAU TY CHA L L E NG E S O N SET? Masks and makeup in the Georgia heat was definitely a challenge! But skin prep under Heather’s makeup with the Sunday Riley C.E.O. line, Shiseido sunscreen and Lancôme La Base Pro Primer plus Graftobian foundation and concealer saved the day! Timing is everything on set and on your wedding day. Planning ahead and scheduling more time than you think you’ll need will help to alleviate any anxiety or stress. Having time available to tweak the hair or lipstick will ensure you feel your best. @jamila_energy

MEET OUR CONTRIBUTORS This issue came together 100% remotely— including our cover shoot. Here’s the inside scoop on how our pros made it happen. AB+DM H OW H A S T HE PANDE MI C CHANG E D Y OUR C R E A T IV E PR OCE S S AND W HAT HAV E Y OU L E A R NE D A L ONG T HE W AY ? Executing photo shoots during this time has made us shift what we think is possible—it’s made us more imaginative, and our ideas have to remain fresh and innovative. Because 85% of our shoots are on-location now, we have to consider the different issues and scenarios that could arise and prepare for them all. We’ve become way more knowledgeable of what it takes, the questions to ask before hand, and how to pivot while on set. We’ve also become very good resources on how to facilitate and produce for our clients who are off-site. But best of all, we have quickly learned how to get over the awkward moment of how to greet people during a shoot. Whether it’s the elbow bump, the hand wave or the performative air shake—it seems like our list of how to say “hello” during this time is growing longer and longer. @abdmstudio

Connectivity is so important when sharing virtually, whether it’s a photo shoot or a wedding. Making sure you have solid WiFi to stream is important—do a couple of test runs so you know ahead of time any issues that may arise day-of and remedy them before you say “I do.” Having a backup connection would be a great idea as well—just in case! @tamaraconnordesigns

Make a thorough list of everything you’ll need for the day, then organize by priority and what takes the most time to accomplish. If you’re relying on vendors, friends, or family, assign their tasks (with detailed instructions!) before you start on anything yourself. The key to planning any event is being organized, prepared, and detail-oriented, especially if you’re on a deadline. Lists and spreadsheets aren’t the most exciting part of planning, but they’re important! @kelorhighwater

STYLE

FIND YOUR WEDDING We know—you’re probably wondering where you should even start (totally normal, btw). First, download our app and take our Style Quiz. It’s a fun way to help zero in on your vibe, (think: industrial with bohemian details). We’ll generate your very own Wedding Vision (more on that on the next page). EDITOR TIP Think about what you love as a couple—are you

homebodies or always looking for an excuse to dress up and hit the dance floor? Your wedding should be a true reflection of who you are, so let your personalities lead your style.

2

ORGANIZED

KEEP Not sure what to do when? Look no further than our totally customizable checklist. If you’re asking your future brother-in-law to officiate, you can cross “find an officiant” off your to-do list. Want to add extra entertainment? No problem. Bonus: Our budgeter will help you track your overall spending.

Organizing all those details and a checklist? There’s an app for that. The Knot Wedding Planner pulls together your vision, pros and guests to put planning in the palm of your hand.

EDITOR TIP Psst, it’s okay to go out of order or to not tick off

every to-do. Really. It’s also totally okay to ask for assistance from your crew or your wedding VIPs—they want to help!

Take our Style Quiz in the app and we’ll help you create your very own Wedding Vision board. Use it to plan your #bestdayever.

PROS

COMPILE YOUR After sharing your info (budget, location, guest count) we’ll help you assemble your squad with recommended vendors. And if you want to keep scrolling, we’ve got tons of award-winning pros (right where you are), plus reviews, on The Knot Marketplace. EDITOR TIP If you have your heart set on a master chef, a true

floral wizard or an epic cover band, book those pros first. Many in-demand vendors get scooped up early, especially in high season. Don’t panic: If your first choice is already booked, ask them for a recommendation. Chances are they have an industry BFF who can also help bring your vision to life.

DISCOVER WHAT YOU LOVE You’ll start by swiping right on images you love—these will be added to your final board (you can always add more). There’s also room to add personalized, must-haves (think: taco truck, dog-friendly venue or room for a sangeet).

DEFINE YOUR STYLE No couple is just one set style—instead, you’ll get a series of words that describe your vibe. Bonus: You can use this lingo when talking with your pros.

4

REGISTRY

MANAGE YOUR People will want to shower you with gifts from “We’re engaged” to your wedding day, so a registry is a must-have. Build yours on The Knot and add items from our expansive catalog or wherever you shop online using our universal registry tool. That means you don’t have to choose between Etsy finds and smart tech from Amazon. Plus, your guests get a one-stop shopping experience—a win-win. EDITOR TIP The Knot Registry also lets you ask for cash for

things like an epic trip to Bali or a down payment on a new home. Yes, you read that right: It’s okay to ask for $$$.

SHEAN STRONG Renowned Atlantabased event designer Shean is the floral and event mastermind at the helm of his eponymous brand. Shean believes in the power of floral styling to create effortless refinement.

Invest where people are going to be spending most of their time—the reception. Indulge in items that may not have been in the budget for a large scale wedding, like textured linens at the reception and luxury flowers for the ceremony. Recently, my clients were forced to scale back their wedding (see above) due to the COVID-19 pandemic. To create an over-the-top feel for Shanna and Evyn’s Georgia wedding, we went minimal while executing everything with intention. Throughout the whole home, I created small moments so that everywhere you looked there was a design element to be noticed. Creating points of interest throughout creates a feeling of continuity for guests. It also blurs the lines of the home, so the residential venue doesn’t detract from the wedding’s aesthetic. People may think downsizing a wedding is a bad thing, but I’ve found this to be the opposite for most clients. Shanna was able to maximize her investment and elevate the items she really wanted. Scaling down the guest count allowed her to scale up her design so we could make it feel more personal and luxe.

CLOCKWISE FROM TOP LEFT: LOVE AND COVENANT PHOTOGRAPHY; COURTESY OF SUBJECT; BECCA DELMAN; LOVE AND COVENANT PHOTOGRAPHY

Scaling down the guest list meant this couple’s taupe décor was scaled up.

I’m a firm believer that the best gifts check three boxes: They’re practical, personal and delightful. You want to find presents your wedding party will use beyond the day, but that still somehow represent—and feel festive enough for—the occasion. How about themed drinkware for everyone on your list? (Think: a wine glass for your rosé-loving bestie and an old-fashioned glass for your old-school father-in-law.) If boozethemed presents don’t speak to your audience, opt for personalized reusable water bottles instead. Essentials for getting ready are another go-to idea. Monogrammed loungewear or Dopp kits come in handy on the morning of and beyond.

One hundred percent. All aesthetic choices for the day should reflect your style and taste as a couple—the color palette is no exception! Ditch seasonal clichés for hues that make you happy in order to achieve a truly timeless vibe. Look to your go-to outfits and fave pieces of art to select true-to-you color pairings as a starting point. Then, translate that palette to your wedding stationery, floral design and fashion.

TOXIC POSITIVITY

HOW TO NAVIGATE

Planning a wedding during a pandemic is hard— it’s OK to admit that. BY MADDY SIMS

Confiding in your partner can make things better.

WHAT IS TOXIC POSITIVITY? Toxic positivity might initially sound like an oxymoron. Even though the intention behind toxic positivity may be to cheer someone up, it misses the mark because TALKING it lacks empathy, which is ABOUT YOUR NEGATIVE problematic. "Instead of EMOTIONS meeting the other person DOESN’T where they are and validating MAKE YOU A what they're feeling, toxic NEGATIVE positivity tries to leap over PERSON. IT the negative and offer MAKES YOU a positive perspective," HUMAN. says Jean Fitzpatrick, LP,

TKM20WIN_FOB_JustEngaged.L [P].indd 48

relationship therapist and premarital counselor in New York. "When you do that, the other person gets the message that their feelings are unacceptable."

they like, but unfortunately, we aren't wired for that," Bejar says. "Cutting off an emotion is like trying to keep a beach ball underwater: it's bound to pop back up eventually."

HOW TOXIC POSITIVITY IMPACTS TO-BE-WEDS AMID COVID

POLITELY SHUT IT DOWN WHEN IT HAPPENS

While a postponed or downsized wedding isn't the worst thing to happen in a pandemic, it's valid for couples to be upset about the change in plans. "If we're not allowed to express those negative emotions, we end up feeling even worse because we're closing off a portion of our reality," Stukas says. Picture this: you tearfully tell a friend you have to uninvite 200 guests from your wedding because of COVID-19 and they say, "At least you won't have to pay for such a big reception." That's, in fact, an example of toxic positivity. "A more empathetic approach would be to acknowledge the loss by saying, 'Sorry to hear. I know you've always dreamed of a big wedding,'" Fitzpatrick explains.

HOW TO ADDRESS TOXIC POSITIVITY RECOGNIZE WHEN IT'S HAPPENING "The biggest way to combat toxic positivity is to be able to recognize it," Bejar says. If you're noticing an overload of "it could be worse" messaging in your life, reflect on where it's coming from. Consider journaling about it or sitting down with your partner to talk it out. ACKNOWLEDGE YOUR NEGATIVE FEELINGS

"Many people wish they could siphon off certain emotions and only keep the ones

If you're experiencing toxic positivity from others, Rachel Sussman, LCSW, recommends respectfully stating your needs. A response like: "You're absolutely right—it could be worse. But for now, I feel this is bad, and I want to sit in bad for a while," is a great option, Sussman says. Explain that they don't have to feel sad too, they just need to be there for you. LEAN ON YOUR PARTNER "When we confide in our partner about something painful and get told to look on the bright side, that feels like a door slamming on our emotional connection," Fitzpatrick says. Express how you're feeling to your partner and ask for what you need— whether that's words of affirmation or a comforting hug. SEEK OUT PROFESSIONAL HELP AS NEEDED

Your loved ones can only do so much. "Talking with a therapist is a healthy option," Stukas says. It's a way to create a safe space for yourself, as therapists don't need you to be positive at all. Wherever you stand in relation to COVID-19, what you're feeling right now is valid. "The pandemic is a layer of chronic stress that everyone is being affected by on both day-to-day and big-picture levels," Bejar says. "Talking about your negative emotions doesn't make you a negative person. It makes you human."

ue to coronavirus, many couples have postponed or reimagined their nuptials. The change in plans (not to mention the pandemic itself) has couples dealing with anxiety, stress and a rising new mental health concern: toxic positivity. While positivity is generally a good thing, too much of anything (even optimism) can become harmful. "Toxic positivity involves solely viewing things in a positive light across all situations—no matter the circumstances— without regard toward how that viewpoint might make others feel," says Landis Bejar, LMHC and founder of wedding planning therapy practice AisleTalk. If you're upset about COVID-19 changing your wedding plans, it's OK to admit it. True, you still have your partner and you will get married, but only focusing on the bright side can be, well, toxic. "Feeling the full range of human emotions is healthy, necessary and allows us to actually experience the good ones even more so," says Sarah Stukas, MS, LCPC and therapist at Life Insight.

first started following Heather McMahan on Instagram when a friend of mine shared one of her Instagram Stories on our group text chain. Another friend chimed in to say her podcast, Absolutely Not, was a mustlisten. Next thing I knew, I was hooked. Her brand of humor—whip smart, relatable and just plain funny—has been the perfect antidote to this very heavy year. So when it was time to choose our cover star for the last issue of 2020, Heather, also a bride-to-be, seemed like the perfect choice. When we jumped on the phone on a Friday afternoon in September, Heather laughingly admitted, “I kept thinking, what am I going to say in a bridal interview?” Then went on to joke, “Well, wedding planning was great until we got to the point where we don’t even know if we’ll ever be able to have a wedding.” Like so many engaged couples across the US and the world, Heather and her fiancé Jeff had to postpone their 2020 wedding, which was originally set for September 26th in Italy, because of the COVID-19 pandemic. “Nobody knows what the next step is. I think you have to be flexible and just go along for the ride,” said Heather about her postponed nuptials, and essentially, the entire year. “Basically, just grab a bottle, hunker down and pray for daylight.” ››

I ’ M A C O M E D I A N , I H AV E TO TA K E know that we’re all going to be okay and if shit hits the fan, we’re all in it together. KM C: Does Robin give you any wedding advice? H M: Robin is like, ‘Do whatever you want and just have fun.’ And listen, I would not be surprised if somehow my mom shows up in white on my wedding day and walks down the aisle to, like, Britney Spears and shows me up. Like I’ve prepared myself for that. But honestly and truly, no. My mom was like, ‘Go. Go wherever you want. It’s your time to travel. Just do what you want to do.’ And one of the reasons why I loved Italy is that it’s not all about the tchotchkes and the favors and all this stuff. It’s about having amazing food and amazing wine and beautiful scenery and having people come together. My love language is spending time with people and I can’t think of anything better than getting all these people together in a vineyard in Tuscany. KM C: When the wedding dresses started to arrive for our cover shoot, you shared on your Instagram Stories about your dress shopping experience... H M: I did one day with my matron of honor, my best friend since kindergarten, of going to a few bridal boutiques to see what they had. And it was so disheartening. Even if they had something that was going to be in my size eventually, it was still cut for a size two. There just wasn’t something real and tangible for me to touch and try on. And I was like, I have no idea what this crepe is going to look like on me! So this is my best advice: I found my favorite dress in my closet that I wear to a lot of formal events because it just fits me incredibly, and then I found a designer, Xay Vongphachanh at Watters, and I said make me something like this. I don’t mean to dissuade others from using designers, but (dress shopping) was such a pressure cooker situation. They just didn’t have what I wanted, and then I’d have to picture what a dress in a size 8 was going to look like on me, and I’m a size 12/14. It became super disheartening. Dress shopping should be such a personal and exciting experience. There’s this whole idea of ‘Say yes to the dress’ and it just did not happen for me. And at the end of that long day of bridal dress shopping, I was so hungry—I was like give me a taco and a glass of wine. I’m freaking over it. KM C: So there’s a lot going on in the world today—how do you personally process it and approach it all? H M: I’m a woman in comedy and my whole job is to take things

that make people feel uncomfortable or that they don’t understand and to break it down in a humorous way for us all to find a common thread and a human connection. We’ve either got to learn from things, grow from it or adjust. So I can only hope that the world is going to become a kinder, more gentler, more patient place, but there’s also got to be equality for everybody. There is so much unknown and as long as you’re not being an asshole and you’re doing your part to treat everyone kindly and justly and sticking up for those who need you to have their back, then that’s all you can ask for. KM C: What’s your and Jeff’s secret for a successful relationship? H M: At the end of the day, I say that we invest in each other. Like people invest in a start-up. Jeff and I met when we were 22. We both had big dreams and it has not been glamorous along the way, but I think it’s just finding somebody who’s going to be your [expletive] cheerleader. I think that if you’re independent and the other person is independent, then when you come together you’re just that much stronger. But you’ve got to have your own thing and you’ve got to have your own passions. If you’re staying in your lane and doing what fulfills you, that only makes you a better person to your partner.

Drawing inspiration from ready-to-wear trends, her designs offer a range of options, from chic little white dresses meant for a minimony or elopement, to more formal—though always modern—gowns for grander nuptials.

I want brides to be cool and unconventional. I design for the woman who doesn’t care about the rules and gets married the way she wants.

Nigerian-born Esé Azénabor got her start designing custom evening wear. She made her first wedding dress after working with a client who couldn’t find bridal styles that worked for her darker skin tone and body shape. This void in the market inspired Azénabor to create a bespoke bridal collection, tailored to the individual needs of each bride. Inspired by a fusion of African and European influences, Azénabor’s namesake line is all about empowering women through fashion, as well as an attention to luxe details: An abundance of crystals and hand embroidery are the defining characteristics of her designs. Today, Azénabor’s designs have been worn by A-listers like Taraji P Henson, Michelle Williams and Kelsea Ballerini. Though known for her bespoke gowns, in 2020 Azénabor launched a ready-to-wear line called Prêt Mariée By Esé Azénabor, for brides looking for options with a faster turnaround time.

The Esé Azénabor bride is definitely not a wallflower. She is daring, confident and appreciates what it takes to create art.

Laurie Underwood’s beautifully bold and structured gown designs took her far on season 14 of Project Runway. After the show and the success of her popular ready-to-wear collection Wanda Grace, Underwood created Laury Bride, a bridal collection which showcases her unique perspective on bridal style with distinctly dramatic designs (think: oversize bows, ruffle details and airy ball gowns). Currently a primarily bespoke collection, Laury Bride launched an additional ready-to-wear bridal line in Fall of 2020.

A N D R E A PIT TE R - CA M PB E LL OF PANTORA BRIDAL @pantorabridal

Andrea Pitter-Campbell established Pantora Bridal, both a salon in Brooklyn, New York, and a bridal collection, to address a lack of inclusion and diversity in the bridal industry. Pitter-Campbell sought to create a safe space where women of color could shop and also find fashion-forward dresses created specifically for them. A combination of classic silhouettes paired with ornate details, Pantora Bridal is for the bride who doesn’t shy away from cutting-edge trends. Highly customizable, the collection features gowns with various alternative strap, neckline and skirt options. Above all, Pantora Bridal designs with the Black bride in mind. In 2016, the brand created Forgotten Skin Tones, a selection of illusion and mesh linings created for brides of color in the market for trendy illusion gowns, given that standard mesh options only work for lighter complexions.

The Pantora aesthetic is glamorous and edgy, yet familiar. I wanted to strip away the idea of all societal beauty standards. It became important for me to create a place where women could be understood, honored and celebrated.

Her mother was a talented seamstress who loved making colorful outfits for her children, and Imam was fascinated by her mother’s work. After studying costume design at El Centro College in Dallas, Texas and spending several years in the fashion industry, Imam launched her own collection in 2009. Since then, Nardos Design has expanded into evening wear, a ready-to-wear line and a custom bridal collection. Imam credits her faith and the unique perspectives and backstories of her clients as her main source of artistic inspiration. The Nardos Design bridal collection offers a variety of classic, tailored silhouettes with standout details like oversize rosettes, colorful statement bows and 3-D florals.

Our brides are truly one-of-a-kind and their unique aesthetic is something they dream up. Our goal at Nardos Design is to cultivate, create and design the dresses of our clients’ dreams.

When she couldn’t find her dream wedding dress in bridal salons, Nneka C. Alexander decided to leave a budding career as an investment banker to design her own gown— and many gowns to follow. In 2014, Alexander launched Brides by NoNA. Based in Atlanta, Brides by NoNA offers a collection of readyto-wear wedding dresses and formalwear, but the brand’s main focus is bespoke garments for brides looking to go totally custom-made.

Our bride understands luxury and the intricacies of a bespoke process. I create timeless gowns that will take your breath away 10 years down the road.

You like to be first (and that’s putting it lightly). As the youngest sign of the zodiac, you lead the pack as a passionate and unstoppable force. You’re a trendsetter who’s attracted to cutting-edge accessories that aren’t too frilly or overdone, so menswearinspired pieces like a crisp white blazer plus lace-up booties appeal to your strong masculine energy. You have two speeds: grounded and ready to charge. Tauruses are famous for their stubbornness (you’re named after the bull, after all), but there’s more to you than that. While you love a solid plan, you possess an appreciation for beauty and the arts, thanks to your ruling planet of Venus. Above all though, you like to chill. (You’re probably zoning out right now, TBH.) Given your fondness for relaxation, you seek out luxury with a comfy tilt. Rather than suffer in sky-high stilettos, heavy chandelier earrings or a cumbersome collar necklace, you opt for fabulous block heels, stunning studs and a delicate choker. 1 Sapphire choker, $65, Mejuri.com; 2 Nearlynude sandal, $398, StuartWeitzman.com; 3 Tallulah earrings, $248, JenniferBehr.com

You’re complicated, but that’s what makes you special. Depicted as a pair of twins, you’re a walking contradiction who frequently is torn between contrasting emotions and ideas. You change direction quickly and you’re always up for challenging the status quo. One of your favorite ways to break the rules? Your fashion choices. You spring for pieces that combine opposites (think: clashing metals and casual staples edged up with unexpected embellishments). Ruled by your hands, your wedding look wouldn’t be complete without an eclectic ring stack plus bangles.

ith your wedding date approaching, you may feel the urge to splurge on a serious skincare overhaul. (#selfcare, you know?) But there are so many trendy offerings with long ingredients lists out there, it can be hard to know which ones to add to your cart. To help simplify your prewedding prep, we tapped experts to decode the skincare ingredients to look for (plus the ones to be wary of) so you can feel the most confident and camera-ready on your day.

TKM20WIN_FASHBTY_Beauty.L [P].indd 73

It’s important not to get too carried away here. The last thing you want to do is overwhelm and irritate your skin. Most pros recommend going to see a board-certified dermatologist to come up with a routine specifically tailored to your needs. That way, you’re not using products that will cause you to break out, peel or otherwise not look your absolute best. But if you want to get a jump-start on your pre-wedding regimen, read up on these expert-approved skincare ingredients.

This popular skincare ingredient is a type of charcoal made by burning carbonrich materials like wood. “Activated charcoal is specially processed to create numerous pores on the surface of charcoal particles to absorb impurities,” says Kelly Dobos, cosmetic chemist and former president of the Society of Cosmetic Chemists. If you’re suffering from congested skin (think: blemishes, blackheads or otherwise clogged pores), using a mask with activated charcoal once or twice a week can help clear things up before your “I dos.”

Derived from the seeds of the Psoralea Corylifolia (also known as the babchi plant), Bakuchiol is a gentle, plant-derived retinol alternative (more on retinol later) that softens the appearance of fine lines and improves skin firmness. “It works like retinol but without the irritating side effects of redness, flakiness, peeling or light sensitivity,” Helen Yang, product development coordinator at cocokind says.

This edible ingredient is a natural oil from the coconut plant. According to Caren Campbell, MD, a dermatologist, it provides moisture to the skin in addition to having antibacterial properties. “But coconut oil can be occlusive, which means it can clog pores and cause acne,” she says. Those with dry skin will love this superfood, but acne-prone nearlyweds might want to steer clear.

COCONUT OIL

PRO PICK Kopari coconut melt, $28, KopariBeauty.com

CBD is one of the many cannabinoids present in cannabis (the most well known one is THC). However, CBD doesn’t have any psychoactive effects on its own. According to Dobos, there is evidence that CBD oils in skincare may have anti-inflammatory effects in addition to acting like a traditional moisturizing agent. “CBD is a relatively trendy ingredient, but it is now being heavily researched in cosmetic applications to unlock its full potential,” Dobos says.

CBD

PRO PICK Acid Mantle Repair CBD moisturizer, $75, LordJones.com

This chemical exfoliator is an alpha hydroxy acid derived from sugar cane. It’s a smaller molecule than other AHAs, meaning it travels deeper into the skin to improve overall tone and texture. “It weakens the connections between the cells in the top layer of the skin, which helps to exfoliate dead skin cells— giving the skin a refreshed glow,” says Marisa Garshick, MD, a dermatologist.

Hyaluronic acid is a natural sugar molecule in our body. It’s a humectant—meaning it attracts moisture—and can hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water. Not only is it super hydrating, hyaluronic acid also plumps lines, areas on the face with volume loss and helps makeup go on smoother. If you’re hoping for a dewy complexion on your day, Garshick says it’s important to get serious about moisturizing in the weeks prior.

“Ceramides are a component of the lipid-rich matrix that surrounds skin cells in the epidermis,” Dobos says. They create a barrier to prevent water loss and the penetration of irritants. Unfortunately, ceramides are depleted with age and sun damage. However, if your complexion looks dull, you can apply moisturizer with ceramides in it to give your skin a hydrating boost.

Kaolin is a creamy white mineral clay that naturally occurs in the earth. Yang says it absorbs impurities and sebum (also known as oil) as well as brightens the skin. While other types of clay are notoriously drying, kaolin is a gentle option that won’t leave your skin feeling stripped or irritated.

Vitamin A derivatives of different strengths, retinols are available over-the-counter and retinoids are prescription. “They’re used to treat acne and have antiaging benefits,” Garshick says. “They stimulate cell turnover, which combats fine lines and dark spots.”

RETINOL/RETINOIDS

PRO PICK RoC Retinol Correxion moisturizer, $20, Target.com

This plant-derived lipid is a version of a substance produced by our own sebaceous glands. “It prevents moisture loss and helps keep skin elastic,” says Marisa Plescia, research scientist at NakedPoppy. “It also has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, which combat aging.” Another plus? It can balance oily skin and is noncomedogenic (read: it won’t cause acne).

76

SQUALANE

PRO PICK Indie Lee squalane facial oil, $34, NakedPoppy.com

Also known as L-Ascorbic V I TA M I N C acid, vitamin C is a watersoluble vitamin and antioxidant. “It’s one of the greatest antiagers found in nature,” says Dennis Gross, MD, a dermatologist and founder of Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare. Vitamin C builds collagen and elastin—the keys to younger looking skin. It brightens and firms your complexion, and prevents future dark spots by reducing the enzyme that produces pigment. Bonus: It also protects against UVB and UVA damage. PRO PICK Dr. Dennis Gross C+ Collagen Brighten & Firm Vitamin C serum, $78, DrDennisGross.com

Watercress extract, also known as Nasturtium officinale, is derived from the watercress plant. It contains a variety of vitamins and phytonutrients like beta-carotene that are vital to skin and scalp health. Sarkar says this ingredient is anti-inflammatory, which means it calms irritated, stressed-out skin (like the kind wedding planning can cause). Though research on this up-and-coming ingredient is limited, a Shiseido study found it could stimulate type-3 collagen, creating a plumping effect similar to filler.

shop smart INGREDIENTS T O AV O I D APPLE CIDER VINEGAR While ACV is believed to fight acne and exfoliate, Garshick says more research is needed to back up these claims. It can cause redness and flaking, so skip it before your day.

DRYING ALCOHOLS Found in acne products, drying alcohols like ethyl alcohol and propanol (plus others) strip the skin of moisture and actually make acne worse, Yang says.

ESSENTIAL OILS These are all the rage, but Garshick says some essential oils can lead to breakouts. Patch test before use to ensure you won’t have a bad reaction.

FRAGRANCE There isn’t much regulation around this term, so you don’t really know what a scent is made of, Yang says. Use caution if you have sensitive skin.

PARABENS These Z INC OXIDE/T ITANIUM DIOXIDE two ingredients are found in sunscreens that are considered to be physical (or mineral) blockers. They work by sitting on top of the skin and physically blocking or filtering UV rays. We know that UV rays from the sun can lead to DNA damage, which can lead to the breakdown of collagen. Wearing physical sunscreen with these ingredients can help prevent sunburns, fine lines and sun spots leading up to your wedding. “In general, sunscreen should be worn regularly, no matter the weather or the season,” Garshick says. She recommends SPF 30 or higher and broad-spectrum coverage, which provides protection from UVA and UVB rays. PRO PICK UV Clear Broad-Spectrum SPF 46 sunscreen, $36, EltaMD, Dermstore.com

These preservatives extend the shelf life of cosmetics and personal care products, but according to Plescia, can also disrupt your hormones, leading to a variety of health issues. JAMIE CHUNG/TRUNK ARCHIVE; ALL PRODUCTS COURTESY OF VENDORS

This special form M A N U K A H O N E Y of honey comes from the manuka bush in New Zealand. According to Papri Sarkar, MD, a dermatologist, honey is a multitasker. “It soothes the skin, draws in moisture and prevents infection,” she says. “Anyone can benefit from it—especially those suffering from a broken skin barrier.”

PHTHAL ATES Found in nail polish, perfume and deodorant, these chemicals have a “plasticizing effect.” However, similar to parabens, they throw off your hormones, causing issues later on in life.

S U L F AT E S / S U R F A C TA N T S Found in shampoo and body wash, these harsh detergents remove dirt and oil. According to Garshick, they can also cause skin inflammation and irritation.

WHITE ON WHITE

LESS IS MORE

Classic rainbow colors can skew juvenile, so use a variation of the palette for a wedding-chic look.

It’s totally okay to lean into your sweet tooth and throw an over-the-top, dessert-filled wedding!

Choose a raw, colorless space—this way your vivid palette won’t clash with the existing décor.

Avoid drenching the entire room in color—take a more curated approach so the details really pop.

WEINBERG: JUSTIN MCCALLUM PHOTOGRAPHY

A happy palette is the perfect antidote to 2020—and we are SO here for it! Throw in some other cheery details, like a bevy of kaleidoscope blooms and sweets for days and you’ve got yourself a party for the ages. The key to pulling off a rainbow bash that feels more wedding/less birthday is embracing all. the. white. Accent tables with white linens and ghost chairs to elevate the look. And lean into décor that does double duty, like a vibrant mural for the ceremony backdrop and later, guest photo opps. Hits of intentional color will give you the spirited vibe you crave but with the sophisticated wedding feel you want. How sweet is that?

Q:

CAN WE REGISTER EVEN IF WE DON’T HAVE A WEDDING DATE DUE TO COVID? Absolutely! You can and you should. For starters, your engagement alone is worth celebrating, especially during these unprecedented times. And you’ve probably been spending more time at home than ever before and have a good handle on what you need or want to upgrade. Maybe you’ve been exploring new hobbies in quarantine (hello, chef!) and new cookware and a fancy espresso maker are top of mind. Wish list your picks—it’s one of the most fun parts of wedding planning!

102

Q:

I S I T TA CKY F O R U S TO A SK F O R B IG GI FTS O R CA SH R IG HT N OW? There may be a global pandemic raging on, but love is not canceled. A wedding is a milestone in your lives and the people who love you will want to celebrate you! Ask for what you really want or need, even if it carries a bigger price tag (group gifting is a thing). If you’d rather not ask for a $1K outdoor grill upfront, ask for cash instead. You can do it in a couple of clicks on The Knot Registry and put the money toward anything from an epic future honeymoon to pet adoption or home improvements. And remember, when you’re compiling your wish list, include gifts in a range of price points. Then keep it updated. If you find the affordable picks are quickly being snatched up, add more.

Regardless of when your wedding will actually take place, your friends and family are likely eager to celebrate you and gifts are part of that. Be sure to send a note of thanks and then unbox your goods and put them to use! The same goes for any money contributed to a cash fund.

Q:

W H AT D O Y O U D O I F Y O U R G U E S T S AR E N ’ T S E N D I N G G I F T S ? This can be a tricky subject to navigate—but it’s doable! For starters, direct guests to your wedding website

I to announce shifts in wedding plans. In addition to including your registry on your site, add some language around where to send gifts (especially if you’re moving or quarantining away from your usual home base). This may be the gentle reminder your guests need—this is new for them, too! While it’s not polite to blatantly solicit gifts, your wedding party and close family (aka your wedding ambassadors) can help. They may be able to get the dialogue started with “Hey, they’re feeling down right now, let’s lift their spirits and send them something—want to go in on a gift together?” or at the very least let people know what’s going on. Keep in mind, some guests may have fallen on hard times and that could be the reason for the delay. If this is the case, exercise empathy. Also, be sure your registry features gifts at a variety of price points so you’re not imposing financial stress on those who may still want to send a gift.

We wanted our ceremony to be secular with some Jewish elements that felt meaningful to us. We used my Grandpa’s tallit as the covering for the chuppah. He passed away shortly after we got engaged. We also put pins of his on our denim reception jackets. It meant a lot to me to have him there with us in these little ways.

BREAKING THE GLASS One of the Jewish traditions Missy and Peter incorporated in the wedding was the glass breaking. They also creatively memorialized the moment: “The glasses that we broke were made into an art piece that we now have hanging in our living room,” Peter says. THE BEST BOPS Although the couple chose not to include dancing in their reception, the night’s playlist was loaded with, “a mix of ‘80s and ‘90s classics, current pop songs and emo music. We ended the night blasting our favorite emo songs.” SIGNATURE SIPS A trio of cocktails (a Dark ‘n’ Stormy, an Eastsider and a balsamic/strawberry shrub) were on offer at the bar. STRONG SHADES Vibrant invites introduced the couple’s palette which intentionally, “strayed a bit from traditional wedding colors.”

issy (25 and a restaurant general manager) and Peter (28 and a mechanical design engineer) exchanged vows on a day few couples have access to—Leap Day. Not only is their anniversary date a rarity, the couple’s neoncentric wedding was just as unique. With a vision for a “colorful, modern and clean,” aesthetic, they worked hand-in-hand to create the day as, “doing this stuff together made us feel more connected during the planning process.” Following a ceremony where Missy vowed to “always share my french fries,” and Peter promised to “always agree to watch one more episode,” the couple recessed under a shower of bubbles. An impromptu receiving line let the duo connect to guests before celebrating with an open-seating reception filled with lawn games and s’mores. — HAN NAH N OWAC K

BEACHY ATTIRE While Jan wore a bright blue suit for the wedding, Mari, “felt strongly that I wanted a pink dress and it was surprisingly hard to find a non-white dress!” In the end, she donned a light pink number and added, “a blush ostrich shrug later in the night.” BOTANICALS The day’s floral designs included delphinium, ranunculus, tulips, Juliet garden roses and lisianthus. The arrangements also, “incorporated painted birds of paradise and dyed roses in Jan’s favorite color, bright blue.” FOR THE GUESTS Fans and handkerchiefs were available for attendees to grab before the ceremony. LITTLE ONES Although the couple decided to skip having a wedding party because, “everyone who attended was a very close friend or family member,” they did include four youngsters in the ceremony.

S

ince they’re both designers, Marisa (Mari) Suárez-Orozco (35 and a floral, stationery and event designer) and Janette (Jan) Banner (41 and a carpenter and furniture designer) wanted to blend their two aesthetics when planning their wedding. It was, “a little tricky and took some reworking several times, but ended up being worth it!” Mari shares. While Mari loves, “lush, opulent florals,” Jan’s vibe is bold and modern. The melded result was, “a modern gay disco oasis nestled in the heart of the jungle.” Not only did the wedding’s visuals represent a beautiful coming together, the cultures of the day did as well. For the ceremony, Mari’s parents read the lyrics to “Gracias a la Vida” by Chilean folk singer Violeta Parra. As her father is Argentinian, he read in Spanish while her mother translated to English. - H N

BLACK AND WHITE Wedding guests were asked to wear black and white, with patterns encouraged. “We thought it would keep the aesthetic cohesive and also that our blue and pink outfits would pop against them,” says Mari. MONOCHROME CAKE Iced in black and topped with gold animal figurines, the couple’s cake included a cookiesand-cream tier plus a second flavored with coconut and lemon curd. The dessert menu also included churros, mini cheesecakes, alfajores and chocolate-covered strawberries. RECEPTION DÉCOR “We found these cool black marble tables and Jan had the idea to do monochrome black for dishware, flatware and napkins so the blue menus and florals would pop. We wanted the flowers to shine and I think it was really effective,” Mari says.

Although Mari has been, “designing paper suites for years, this was BY FAR the hardest suite I ever designed!” Passionflower is her favorite bloom, so she illustrated one to thread throughout the stationery and day-of details. Together with an astrologer friend, Mari even incorporated the essence of passionflower and moonstone, a nod to the couple’s rings, into a tincture for the welcome bags.

Passionflower is probably my favorite flower. Passionflower instills a sense of calm as a spiritual conduit. Together with moonstone, it promotes strength, tranquility and harmony. -Mari

BURST OF BLOOMS In addition to bougainvillea, Malika’s bouquet incorporated astilbe, astrantia, peonies, lisianthus, ranunculus, garden roses, rice flower and spirea. FAITH FOCUSED Incorporating their shared Islamic faith was key for the couple. One way they honored their religion was by laying, “out carpets for those who wanted to pray the Muslim sunset prayer.” LIVESTREAM Inspired by the social media aspects of her job, Malika created a wall at the party displaying a live feed of guest tweets using the wedding hashtag. UP IN LIGHTS “We’re both in the production industry so we know the importance of great lighting,” Malika says. ncorporating as much bougainvillea as possible was the goal for Malika (a journalist) and Antar (a photographer) with their “pops of pink”-themed wedding. “All the glorious colors,” of bougainvillea blooms inspired the warm, vibrant color palette, which the couple accented with modern white and gold touches in their warehouse space. Not only did Malika and Antar want the décor to look bright and cheerful, they wanted the celebration to feel that way, too. “Most important to us was ensuring that our guests walked away having thoroughly enjoyed themselves. “We didn’t want it to feel stuffy,” so the couple designed a, “classy party atmosphere with a spiritual undertone that highlighted why we were gathered. It wasn’t just a merging of two people, it was a merging of families and friends from across world.” — H N

“I really wanted a meaningful, but not typical, wedding experience in as many ways as we could find,” recalls Malika. As an alternative to a traditional guest book, Malika and Antar purchased an art deco puzzle that had their names in the middle. They, “asked guests to sign their names and write a message on the puzzle pieces, and accompanied it with a sign telling them to do just that.”

SELF-PENNED VOWS During their ceremony against the Everhart Museum’s façade, the couple exchanged vows they wrote themselves. In his, Gavin (left) shared, “When I was a kid, I believed in miracles and magic…You are my miracle. You are my magic. You are my husband.” OFFICIAL OFFICIANT The mayor of Scranton presided over the couple’s wedding ceremony, sharing some, “beautiful words,” before Gavin’s sisters delivered readings for the occasion. SUITED UP For the ceremony, Gavin wore a metallic pewter suit jacket while Ron donned a similar design in floral. Later, the men swapped metallic for velvet, changing into different jackets for dinner. POCKET SQUARES Instead of traditional boutonnieres, the couple sported creative floral pocket squares.

G

avin Esham (44 and works in acting and management) and Ron Pritchyk (46 and works in sales) opted for an unconventional planning style when preparing for their big day. After winning a wedding contest orchestrated by a local art museum, the duo left the planning up to the pros. “We chose to enter a contest in order to have all of the questions answered for us,” the couple says. “We left our wedding up to fate.” To complement the art museum’s existing exhibits, the duo’s team of vendors designed a swanky, mid-century modern-inspired wedding that played with geometric shapes and bold hues. While much of the day felt modern, thanks to Lucite signage and velvet linens, an assortment of pampas grass, roses, orchids and greenery added a relaxed, boho flair to the space. — H N

COHESION It was important for the décor to blend with the museum’s displays, not detract from the existing art. To achieve this, a burnt orange, soft pink and metallic palette was selected. SCULPTURAL SWEET Fitting given the art-centric venue, Gavin and Ron’s pale green two-tier wedding cake was embellished with a dramatic cascade of florals, which included dried ruscus and orchids. DINNER ASSORTMENT Ten local businesses contributed to the evening’s family-style catering needs. Guests dined on the curated menu with tarnished brass flatware, rose pink chargers, vintage goblets and velvet linen napkins. IN THE ROUND Circular die-cut menu cards further enhanced the arch theme seen in much of the day’s stationery. Calligraphed Lucite place cards were layered atop.

As a reference to the 1989 comedy-drama film Steel Magnolias, the grooms served a red velvet armadillo cake coated in gold and sliced with a sharp blade. Though the animal-inspired dessert’s gray icing is a point of contention in the flick, Gavin and Ron chose a metallic finish in keeping with their color palette.

Our catering was a collection from 10 of the area’s top restaurants. For desserts we had lemon lavender cake, a doughnut wall and even an amazing replica of the Steel Magnolias red velvet armadillo cake. -Gavin

GILDED TYPE Romantic gold calligraphy was a key part of the couple’s stationery, from their Lucite escort card display to navy place cards bearing the stunning script. FRESH FLORALS White California poppies, clematis, toffee roses, dianthus, lisianthus and white spirea were used throughout the floral designs. CROWD FAVORITES Following cocktail hour, a barbecue dinner with mac and cheese that, “our guests to this day continue to praise,” and a simple lemon cake with vanilla buttercream rounded out the day’s menu. SABER ARCH At the conclusion of their outdoor ceremony, the couple exited through a traditional saber salute. ROMANTIC DÉCOR Silk table runners, velvet accent chairs and elegant taper candles exuded pure sophistication at the seated reception.

hough Hebron Kelecha (25 and a medical student) and Nebyou Abera (27 and a US Army Infantry Captain) met as children (“It would be an understatement to say I had a crush on Hebron when we were teens,” Nebyou says), it wasn’t until a chance social media message many years later that the two connected on a romantic level. “We found time through our compounded schedules to see each other,” Nebyou recalls, traveling between Massachusetts, New York and Kansas while dating. With travel such a mainstay in their lives, a destination wedding was perfect. “The December weather in Texas was everything we could have asked for.” The weather even inspired the “Warm December” theme, chosen, “because it describes exactly how we felt internally and externally that day.” — H N

Hebron and Nebyou’s wedding was actually gifted to them, in honor of Nebyou’s military service. The couple’s venue, in partnership with the rest of their vendors, put together a giveaway for military couples and the two, “sent in our favorite (goofy) photo of us and a 500-word statement on why we should be chosen,” they say of entering the voting-based contest.

We realized how big our support system truly was when we were told we won! Nebyou was stationed at Fort Bliss in El Paso and getting to have our dream wedding in Texas was wonderful. -Hebron

WEDDING GOWNS 101 Searching for the one? Study up on everything you need to know before you hit the salon.

A GUIDE TO DRESS SILHOUETTES

Ball Gown

Perfect for the bride looking to make a statement, there’s nothing subtle about a ball gown. This classic silhouette has a fitted bodice and a voluminous full skirt.

A-line

Mermaid

This universally flattering style hugs the torso and has a skirt that flares out in—you guessed it—an A shape. Consider it a halfway point between a sheath and a ball gown.

Va-va-voom. This sultry silhouette has a fitted bodice, waist and hips, and dramatically flares out at the knee. It’s a great option if you want to show off your curves.

Trumpet

Sheath

This slim silhouette A toned-down version skims over the body, of the mermaid, the falling straight to skirt of this gown flares the floor below the out just below the hips, hips. What a sheath creating a semi-full dress lacks in volume, shape (like the bell it makes up for in of a trumpet) without versatility—it works with nearly every fabric. any extra volume.

Empire A dress for the Grecian goddess in us all, the empire style has a fitted bodice ending just below the bust, giving a high-waisted appearance that lengthens the body.

S H O P E A R L Y A designer wedding gown will take months to create and a series of alterations to fit your body perfectly. In other words, it’s not the kind of garment you can toss into an online shopping cart and have show up on your doorstep two days later. Book your first appointment 9 to 12 months before your wedding date. If you’re shopping closer to your wedding, you may be limited to samples or off-the-rack gowns. A L W A Y S B O O K A N A P P O I N T M E N T Scheduling an appointment is the only way to ensure you’ll get a full hour of undivided attention. If you’re the type who hates feeling rushed when shopping, make an appointment on a slow weekday morning or afternoon. L I M I T Y O U R E N T O U R A G E Bringing a big group to the salon is a gown shopping don’t. Enlist one or two of your closest friends or family members to help you start your search. This way you can find the gown that best suits your style and not feel pressured by too many opinions.

H I D D E N C O S T S A D D U P Remember, your wedding gown budget doesn’t just include the dress. Your veil or headpiece, accessories, undergarments and alterations will also add to your bottom line. Factor in these costs before you give the salesperson your shopping budget. T R U S T I S K E Y Even if a gown doesn’t look amazing on the hanger, that doesn’t necessarily mean it won’t look amazing on you. Be open to what an experienced consultant thinks will work for your body (after all, they’ve done this before). Bottom line: The dress you end up loving might be different than what you originally pictured, and that’s okay. S A L O N S C A N S O M E T I M E S T A K E R E Q U E S T S Just because a bridal salon carries your favorite designer, doesn’t mean it’ll have the exact wedding dress you’ve been wanting to try on. But, if you phone in advance and ask about a specific style, your consultant may be able to request a loaner sample of that gown especially for you.

Don’t leave without spending Sunday afternoon at Shirley Heights Lookout, a restaurant perched on a bluff on the south side of the island. You’ll get a stunning panoramic view of English Harbour and the island of Montserrat, not to mention some lip-smacking barbecue. 5

Nassau, the capital city, is extra-crowded during March and April, when spring-breakers invade. It is also one of the busiest cruise ports in the world. 4

5 Grand Bahama Island, the fourth-largest island in the chain, is only a 50-minute flight from Miami and exudes an airy, spread-out feel compared to busy Nassau. Take diving lessons or browse duty-free bounty at the International Bazaar or the Port Lucaya Marketplace in Freeport.

Looking for excitement? Don’t miss Junkanoo, a Bahamian costume parade in which people dance to copper cowbells, goombay drums and whistles. The parade goes from 2 a.m. to 8 a.m. (yeah, you read that right) on December 26 and January 1. 6

7 The Abaco islands are famous for sailing and bird-watching, while the Exumas and Pelican Cays feature incredible land and sea parks. 8 Popular cuisine includes locally grown guava, mangoes, papaya and plantains with conch, kingfish, wahoo and grouper—all washed down with pineapple wine from Eleuthera.

Boats are available for chartering or group tours, including Sail Nassau’s two multimillion-dollar Racers, where you can take the helm or just sit back and feel the wind in your hair. 9

10 The Bahamas are just a 75-minute plane ride from Florida, making them a quick trip for destination weddings and honeymoons alike.

BARBADOS 10 THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW With more than 3,000 hours of sunshine each year, the weather is almost always sunny and warm, cooled by the constant northeast trade winds. The average daytime temperature is balmy, ranging between 84 and 88 degrees.

The rocky, wind-whipped Atlantic coast is one of the world’s best windsurfing spots, while the tranquil west coast that faces the Caribbean Sea, called the Platinum Coast, is lined with posh resorts.

2 Shorts, T-shirts, wraps and sundresses are your best bet for daytime wear and elegantly casual wear for evenings. Swimwear should be kept for the beach and suitable attire should be worn when shopping or dining out.

7 Indulge your taste buds with spicy FrenchCaribbean cuisine at the patios of Brown Sugar, or grab a seat on the intimate, torch-lit terrace overlooking the Caribbean at The Cliff.

The Barbadian capital city of Bridgetown was originally named “Indian Bridge” for the crude bridge that was constructed over the river by early Indian settlers. 3

First made more than 370 years ago from the sugar cane that populated the island, Barbados rum soon found the favor of many English sailors. 4

Bajans (as Barbados residents are called) are crazy about cricket and golf.

8 Hike along an inland trail or down a coastal pathway, laugh at a mischievous green monkey in the wildlife preserve or unwind in one of the numerous parks.

If you want to take to the water, board a catamaran in Bridgetown for lunchtime snorkeling, or set sail for a sunset dinner cruise. 9

3 You’ll need a guide to enter the island’s restricted rainforest region, so sign up for a tour to walk through the dense foliage and swim in one of the tropical waterfalls. If you’re lucky, you may see the rare St. Lucian parrot.

6 The best place to start a scuba dive along the coral walls is the beach at Anse Chastanet, a hotel on the southwest coast.

Some of the coral walls plunge 200 feet deep! Keep your eyes peeled for barrel sponges, angel fish, sea horses, spotted eels, stingrays, nurse sharks and sea turtles. 7

8 Try local favorites like saltfish and green fig and Creole barbecue. While you’re in Castries, try Pink Plantation House, a can’tmiss Creole restaurant.

If you rent a car, make sure you keep to the left side of the road (like you would in the UK). You can also make your way around via ferry, bus or cab.

Gros Islet, a small island on the northwest shore of St. Lucia, is known throughout the Caribbean for its Friday night jump-up. Streetside music blares as locals jam to the sounds of reggae, soca and calypso.

5 Visit the hopping Saturday market in Castries, the island’s capital. The vendors sell everything from fruits and local spices to crafts.

10 If you or your partner loves jazz music, plan your trip around the three-day St. Lucia Jazz Festival, held every May.

Kingston, is perfect for honeymooners seeking their reggae roots or even just a starting point for spa trips and hikes in the beautiful Blue Mountains. 3

Many popular Jamaican destinations are between one and two hours from the Montego Bay airport by car. Make sure you bring Dramamine if you’re at risk for motion sickness, as taxi drivers take the curvy roads at quite a clip.

To see Jamaica at its best, go during Carnival, the highlight of the Jamaican year, in Kingston, Ocho Rios and MoBay each April and in Negril each May. 6

7 Reggae lovers should wait until July for the Reggae Sumfest, held in MoBay.

While shopping in Montego Bay, be polite and don’t hesitate to haggle. Sellers are insistent. 8

9 Coconut water—sold as “ice cold jelly” at roadside stands—and conch soup are said to heighten amour.

Take our word that in Negril, dirty dancing is the norm, so don’t be afraid to whip out some moves that have never seen the light of day! 10

LAST LOOK

We love acknowledging all successes, even the smallest of things. This year, nothing went as planned. On the day that was supposed to be our wedding shower, we went to the store on a whim and picked up champagne to have a toast. As more things were canceled, we incidentally found ourselves buying the same bottle to celebrate our ‘would have’ dates. Because, at the core, we believe there’s always something to celebrate.
