Signs to be placed to remind drivers of LA’s ‘Move Over’ law
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — If you’re driving past stopped police cars or stranded motorists on the side of Louisiana’s roadways, officials want you to “Move Over.” Louisiana’s state police superintendent and transportation secretary announced Monday the installation of several dozen signs telling people to “Move Over for Emergency Vehicles.” The signs, to be placed along major travel routes, are reminders that state law requires drivers to switch lanes, if possible, when approaching a stopped vehicle using warning lights. If drivers can’t switch lanes, they’re supposed to slow down before passing the stopped vehicle. Violators can face up to a $200 fine. Col. Mike Edmonson, the leader of the Louisiana State Police, says the signs and the law are designed to help keep police officers, emergency workers, tow truck operators and stranded motorists safe.

Lafourche Fire District #3 will once again host their 14th Annual Open House Sat., Oct. 4, at Fire Central, 17462 W. Main in Galliano. Sparky will be just one of the many attractions offered for a fun-filled day for the whole family. The event will offer free food and gifts, hayrides, fire truck races, games, prizes, emergency vehicle displays, and more. At 1 p.m., firefighters will be presenting awards to several community members who saved 3 little girls from an overturned vehicle in Bayou Lafourche in September. Join the fun from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Pictured are Sparky, along with firefighters, demonstrating equipment to visitors at a past event.
Festival of Old Times makes debut this weekend A new festival will make its debut this weekend on the grounds of the Lafourche Parish Tourist Center beginning Friday, October 3rd and running through Sunday, October 5th. The Festival, named “La Fete des Vieux Temps”, or Festival of Old Times, was organized and planned by several civic-minded organizations including the Raceland Lion’s Club, Lafourche Fire District #1 and Lockport Fire District #1. The three groups banded together and formed an organization and a board to manage the monumental task. Terry Arabie is the first chairman of the first annual festival and also president of the Raceland Lion’s Club. “Over the years, all the festivals just seemed to keep disappearing and here we are today without any festivals in the central part of the parish,” says Arabie. “I have been thinking about this idea for years. Finally, it’s coming to fruition!” “This festival is all about preserving our community,” he added. “We wanted to preserve our
culture while having our own festival in the central part of the parish that incorporates the best elements of the older festivals.” La Fetes Des Vieux Temps will be held at the Tourist Center in Raceland at the junction of LA 1 and Highway 90. More than 25 craft booths will line the entrance to the existing pavilion already on the site, housing both bands and food booths. Arabie and his team secured a 100 x 60 foot tent to be erected parallel to the pavilion to hold additional food booths and tables for seating and eating. “We wanted to bring back all the great foods from our area’s festivals … the ones we all remembered and love,” Arabie says. “Fresh, made-at-thefest cracklings, white beans and alligator sauce piquant, shrimp, and seafood of all kinds.” Beverages will be plenty with beer and soft drinks on the list. One thing people from the Raceland area may be wondering about is the Fireman’s Punch Daiquiri served years ago at the Fireman’s Festival. See Festival Page 6-A
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — The use of $60 million in Louisiana’s public school financing formula to pay for nearly three dozen charter schools violates the state constitution, a statewide teachers’ union claimed Monday in a lawsuit. The Louisiana Association of Educators said the spending is illegal because the charter schools are created and operated outside of parish and city school systems. The lawsuit, filed in state district court in Baton Rouge, alleges the Louisiana Constitution limits the funding formula to pay for the parish and city systems. “These types of charters are siphoning away resources from our city and parish school systems,” said LAE President Debbie Meaux. Charter schools are publicly funded but run with broad autonomy from state and local education officials. At issue in the lawsuit are 33 charter schools that are authorized by the state Board of Elementary and Secondary Education, or BESE. Also targeted are charter schools that could be authorized by local education nonprofits, as allowed under a 2012 law. Supporters say the schools offer more educational opportunities to students. Public school systems say they take needed dollars away from their schools, forcing them to increase class sizes and lay off employees. In addition to the LAE, the lawsuit was filed on behalf of nine of the union’s local affiliates and residents of Lafayette, Madison and East Baton Rouge parishes. Named as defendants were the state, BESE and the Louisiana Department of Education. Superintendent of Education John White panned the lawsuit, saying the union is putting money over the desires of parents. “The goal of this lawsuit is to stop taxpaying parents from choosing the school they think is best for their children. It’s a money grab. More money for unions and school boards, less for public schools not overseen by unions and school boards,” White said in a statement. See Teachers Page 6-A

Letters and Opinions The HEROES in the shadows
Wow how time flies, it’s been nine months since the tragedy of December 26. It’s time the Gouaux family publicly thanks the community and the heroes in the shadows for all that was done for us. We realize just how important friends are and how important it is to live in a loving and caring community. This area, south Louisiana, houses the families of very loving and compassionate people. Whether it is a hurricane or a tragedy like my family went through, the people of this area will be there for you and your family. Generous donations, prayers and thoughts were most precious, but it did not stop there. When my father passed shortly after the tragedy, friends and the community poured their love to my family again. We have many heroes in the shadows, people that will risk their lives to help others in need and ask for nothing in return. The first group I’m speaking of is our great volunteer fire department. Thank you for all you have done for my family and this community. We are so lucky to have a group of dedicated people like you. Special thanks to the sheriff’s office/Lockport Police Department and their staff for quick response and for securing the scene. My family members that were at the scene or arrived shortly after were cared for and protected from harm. Their expert handling of the scene and keeping my family from further harm was so extremely appreciated. Their extended concern was greatly appreciated. Special thanks to Acadian Ambulance and their staff for the quick response and for providing the needed medical attention given at the scene. Their professional EMT’s and well
equipped transport vehicles helped save our lives. Also for their compassion for our needs during and after this tragedy, we are so grateful. Special thanks to the doctors and staff at Ochsner/St. Anne Hospital who performed miracles on me, stabilizing both me and my daughter for transport to University Hospital in New Orleans. What a great hospital and staff to have in our community. Thanks to the doctors and staff at University Hospital, our great trauma hospital. The doctors and staff continued giving us expert treatment with such compassion and care for our extended stay. My daughter and I parted on our long road to recovery after 45 days in ICU, both headed to Rehab, she at TIRR in Texas and to Ochsner in Clearview. Both rehabs were staffed with great doctors, nurses and therapists. I continued my rehab with a great staff at Physofit in Raceland until released a few weeks ago. Andrea continues her rehab at TIRR in Texas. I want to publicly extend thanks to my daughters for their continued love and support, without their unselfish support I don’t think I would be here today. Also, thanks to all the people in our community and the caring people that thought of us during this stressful time. We are now working on putting what is left of our lives back together. Lastly I want this community to feel comfortable knowing that we have the dedicated caring people here in the shadows, if we need them. Again my family wants to thank all that helped and prayed, for you are our heroes in the shadows. Sincerely, Phillip Gouaux and Family

My grandmother, Irma Callais, said many times that our family was related to most of the people of South Lafourche and I can’t think of a better bunch of people to be related to. My family tree includes Collins, Guidry, Terrebonne, Adams, Vizier, Autin, Rousse, Plaisance, Pitre, Ledet, Sandras and Hebert, just for starters. That helped when I ran for political office but it sure put a damper on my bachelor days. “But grandma,â€? I augured, after she had vetoed a girl I wanted to date, “she’s only a fifth cousin, twice removed.â€? It didn’t matter. An Irma veto could not be overruled. To her, a relative, no matter how distant, was a relative, period! When Dorothy “Dotâ€? Guidry’s name came up, she smiled and nodded her head and Dot and I have been married 60 years, still alive and kicking! Well ‌ that’s a metaphor. We’re still alive but to paraphrase Jerry Lee Lewis, there’s not “a whole lot of kicking going onâ€?. Genealogy can be boring but read on so you can determine if you ever got tangled in any branch of my family tree. If you did, you don’t have to admit it. My advice would be to ‘take the Fifth Amendment’! I now confess to having perpetuated a lie all my life. Now you’ll have to read to find out how and why. He fought in the Battle of New Orleans under General Andrew Jackson and his son, Mathurin (1831/1922) eventually moved to South Lafourche with his wife Helen Cocke (1839/1883). They bought the property where Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church now stands. His son, Paul (my grandfather, 1871/1939) and his wife Irma (1881/1962) bought property one-quarter mile north of Golden Meadow. The family created a subdivision where Dot and I now live. They raised their nine children, my mother, Helen (1908/2002) and her eight siblings, all together 5 boys and 4 girls. All but one lived to their 80’s and 90’s. On my father’s side, I now know the following, and this is where I unknowingly committed the fraud. My great, great grandfather Thomas Martin was born in England in 1816. YIPES! Part of me is a bloody limey. Woe is me ‌ I’m not a fullblooded Cajun. His wife Josephine

Teachers From 1-A
Meaux said the union doesn’t oppose charter schools, but she said they should be created in collaboration with the local school systems. Rudy Espinoza, a high school social studies teacher and president of the Lafayette Parish Association of Educators, said three charter schools that were recently created by BESE after being rejected by the local school system have caused budget problems. “We’ve spent the entire summer cutting our budget because of a $20 million shortfall, and over half of that shortfall is directly tied to the new charter schools, he said. The charter school spending challenged by the lawsuit is a small slice of the $3.6 billion financing plan that pays for Louisiana’s public schools in the 2014-15 school year. The formula — known as the Minimum Foundation Program — was written by the state education board, supported by Gov. Bobby Jindal and approved by lawmakers in May. LAE leaders say the lawsuit stems from its successful 2012 court challenge of the use of the school financing formula to pay for Jindal’s statewide voucher program. The Louisiana Supreme Court ruled it unconstitutional to pay for vouchers through the formula, so Jindal and lawmakers now finance the program with other dollars.

Festival From 1-A
“We got the recipe and we tried it out with a twogallon batch,â€? Arabie states. “After we all had a glass of the daiquiri, we knew we had to add it to the festival’s offerings. We are going to call it ‘Bayou Water’ after we make it a little brown in color.â€? The Festival will feature great Cajun food, music, pay-one-price rides, 25 booths of handmade crafts, an old fashioned hog boucherie, a Sauce Piquante cook off, (contact Woody Collins at wcollins7112@yahoo.com), and auction. What makes this festival different than most festivals will be the demo area. Featured attractions include boats from the Traditional Wooden Boats Museum, basket weaving, moss doll and garfish demos, sugar cane syrup cooking, along with dancing from members of the United Houma Nation. And don’t forget the Cajun dancing! “We will have a cane syrup machine, powered by a mule, and actually be making cane syrup over the 3-day festival,â€? says Arabie. “We will be milling and actually boiling the cain juice right next to the pavilion.â€? One thing the organizers are extremely proud of is the mass that will be held on Sunday, October 5th under the pavilion at 9 a.m. “We have a letter from the Bishop approving it,â€? adds Arabie. “Rain or shine, we are planning on having a great festival and a beautiful mass.â€? “Volunteers, auction items, setting up the booths, tearing down ‌ we can always use help,â€? says Arabie. “We are not doing this for monetary gain or to get rich by any means. So any help is greatly appreciated.â€? “We want people to come out and enjoy all that we have here as we remember our past festivals and traditions and create some new ones,â€? he added. “We want everyone to come out and have a great time, from around here as well as from everywhere.â€? There will also be a tent set up with different talks held every hour on Saturday and Sunday ‌ talks about sugarcane, Cajun French, the history of the Cajuns, Houmas Indians history, alligator farming and hunting, medicinal herbs and treatments of the old times, quilting, how to make the file’ for gumbo, the music and heritage along the bayou in the early

Trojans rally past HLB; spoil Braves’ homecoming Casey Gisclair Contributing Writer
Central Lafourche was down 14 points at halftime on Friday night, and had to watch with impatience as H.L. Bourgeois crowned its new Homecoming Queen. Once the action finally started back for the second half, the Trojans used their frustration productively – crowing themselves as the king of the opening night of district play. Out of the lockers, Central Lafourche thrashed the Braves, scoring 28-straight points to secure a 28-14 win. The Trojans are now 31 on the season, including 1-0 in district play. It wasn’t always pretty – especially early. But Trojans coach Keith Menard said he’s happy to have a win. “It was a good win, Menard said. “Give the Braves credit. Those guys gave it everything they had on the other sideline and played a pretty good ballgame. I think we took control up front in the second half and wore them down a little bit, which helped us to take control and get the win. For H.L. Bourgeois, Friday night’s homecoming festivities looked promising early on. Braves’ tailback

Ritney Coleman took the opening kickoff of the game and scampered through the Trojans’ kickoff unit 95 yards and into the end zone to give H.L. Bourgeois a 7-0 lead. Coleman also scored on the final play of the first quarter when he caught pass from Braves’ quarterback Todd Adkins and took it 51 yards into the end zone for a touchdown, which made the score 14-0 after a successful extra point from kicker Nicholas Montana. The second quarter was dominated by Central Lafourche. The Trojans controlled the clock and the tempo of the quarter, possessing the football for more than 10 minutes on a massive 17play drive. But the Braves’ defense stiffened before halftime and kept the Trojans out of the end zone, sending the game to halftime with H.L. Bourgeois up 14-zip. But out of the lockers, Central’s long second quarter drive proved valuable, as it noticeably wore out the Braves’ defense. On the first drive of the third quarter, the Trojans marched 65 yards down the field, cutting the Braves’ lead to 14-7 after a one-yard touchdown run from Thomas Wesley and an extra point by kicker Logan Maronge. In the final minutes of the third quarter, Central Lafourche stopped the Braves and marched down the field again, cutting the Braves’ lead to 14-13 on a six-yard touchdown run from Wesley. The Trojans’ 2point conversion attempt was unsuccessful, sending the game to the fourth quarter with the Braves ahead by a point. In the fourth quarter,
the Trojans’ dominance continued as Central Lafourche intercepted a pass at the Braves’ 13-yard-line, punching it in for a touchdown two plays later on a 4yard run from halfback Da’Quan Gray. A successful 2-point conversion put the Trojans ahead 21-14. The icing on the cake came with five minutes to go in the game when Gray broke free and scampered 50 yards for the game-sealing touchdown run to bring the game to its final margin. Menard said he’s proud of how hard his team fought, despite the deficit. He said he knows the Trojans must continue to improve, especially in this coming Friday night’s game against East St. John – a game that will be played in Mathews. “We’ll keep working and we’ll keep trying to polish up some things, Menard said. “We know we have some really good football teams left on our schedule, so we know that we have to play our best football in the coming weeks if we hope to be successful. ___
Tarpons hang for three quarters, fall flat in the fourth in tough loss
Everything was aligning itself perfectly for the South Lafourche football team to upset East St. John. The Tarpons played a strong first half, and went into halftime with a 13-12 lead. South Lafourche stopped the Wildcats’ offense to start the third quarter and was driving down the field to seemingly take control. But a rash of penalties and mental errors stalled the drive and turned the Tarpons’ fate. The rest of the game was all East St. John, sending South Lafourche home empty handed, despite a top-notch effort. The Tarpons played the Wildcats firm for three quarters, sending the game to the final quarter up for grabs. But East St. John dominated in the final 12 minutes, scoring early and often on their way to a 5019 win. Tarpons’ coach Dennis Skains said he was proud of
his team’s effort, but added they need to learn how to finish off a game against a tough foe. “That score doesn’t show what kind of game that was, Skains said. “That was a good football game. We were right beside them stride-for-stride until the very end when they pulled away. You ask me, ‘Am I happy we hung with them for three quarters?’ Yes, I am happy. But the game is four quarters long. So we have to find a way to keep pushing a little longer. The Tarpons started the game red-hot, scoring on the opening drive on a fouryard scamper from quarterback Harvey Allen to take a 6-0 lead. The Wildcats answered that score and tied it at 6-all late in the first quarter. East St. John added to that tally mid-way through the second quarter when halfback Nigel Anderson took it for a score to go ahead 12-6. But South Lafourche wouldn’t go down without a fight, putting together a scoring drive before halftime to head to the lockers up 13-12 – a drive capped with a 9-yard scramble from Allen. The Wildcats rallied in the third quarter and scored a touchdown and a field goal to go up 22-13 on South Lafourche. But the Tarpons fought back and cut that lead to 22-19 when receiver Shak Dillon caught a deep pass from Allen for a touchdown to close the third quarter. But the fourth quarter was all East St. John, as the Wildcats roared for four touchdowns to bury the Tarpons for good. South Lafourche will hope to put together a full game on Friday at Terrebonne. Skains said this week will be all about improvement for the Tarpons. “We had three great days of practice last week, and I think it showed on the field. I think we’re continuing to get better, Skains said. “We’re going to study Terrebonne hard, because they’re a good football team, but our biggest focus is just bettering ourselves and making sure that we continue to make progress ourselves.
Central Arkansas rolls over Nicholls State 52-18 Wednesday, October 1, 2014 THE LAFOURCHE GAZETTE
7-A
CONWAY, Ark. (AP) — Ryan Howard completed 15 of 19 pass attempts for 114 yards and two touchdowns to lead Central Arkansas to a 52-18 win over Nicholls to open Southland Conference play on Saturday. Taylor Reed, who played in his first game since leaving the Montana State game on Sept. 13 with concussion symptoms, was 7-of-9 passing for 98 yards for UCA. Kalen Henderson scored in the first quarter after a 71-yard drive to put
Nicholls within one, 7-6. The Colonels only crossed midfield twice after that. UCA (2-3, 1-0) amassed 487 total yards while holding Nicholls (0-5, 0-1) to 240. Nicholls scored in the third when Joel Dullary intercepted a pass and ran it in from the 22 to close the gap to 24-12. UCA answered quickly as Jatavious Wilson returned the ensuing kickoff 78 yards to the 16. Three plays later Howard passed to Courtney Whitehead for a 31-12 lead.

Saints humbled, but not hopeless after 1-3 start
LSU’s Miles: Freshman QB to start vs. Auburn Wednesday, October 1, 2014 THE LAFOURCHE GAZETTE
GUERRY SMITH Associated Press
METAIRIE, La. (AP) — Defensive captain Junior Galette is disgusted by the Saints’ sluggish start. “You have to be realistic and know that we’re not as good as we thought we were,” Galette, a pass-rushing outside linebacker, said Monday. “We have three quarters (of the season) left, and we have to improve drastically.” With the Saints (1-3) coming off a 38-17 loss at Dallas on Sunday night and at the bottom of the NFC South, Galette doesn’t seem to be getting any arguments from teammates or coaches. Instead of naming one or two overriding concerns, coach Sean Payton rattled off the offense, the defense, the special teams, preparation and coaching as areas that needed to get better before Sunday’s home game against Tampa Bay (1-3). The Saints appeared staggered and stunned by their lopsided loss in Dallas, particularly because of how much more competitive they looked in their first three games. They held leads in the last 10 seconds of their first two games — which were both on the road — before losing each by three points or fewer. New Orleans then responded with a 20-9 win at the Superdome against Minnesota before heading to Dallas with a chance to even their record. Instead, they fell behind 24-0 by halftime and trailed 31-3 entering the fourth quarter. The only positive came from outside. The Saints remained one game out of first place in the division because co-leaders Atlanta and Carolina, both 2-2, also lost on Sunday. Right now, though, the Saints are worried about what is wrong on the inside. “Nothing is encouraging right now,” Galette said. “We’re not looking at other teams. We’re looking at ourselves, and how we played last night was discouraging. At the same time, you’ve got to be tough Rockin R Rodeo presents Andy Joe Dufrene Memorial

and be strong through these tough times because they never last.” Coming off an 11-5 season in 2013, the Saints talked in the preseason about having the most talented roster in Payton’s nine-year tenure. They pointed to the addition of three-time Pro Bowl safety Jairus Byrd and wide receiver Brandin Cooks, a first-round draft pick. But September has told a different story. The contrast between their performance against Dallas last season and on Sunday was dramatic. The Saints beat the Cowboys 49-17 last November at home, recording an NFL-record 40 first downs while Dallas failed to convert any of its nine thirddown opportunities. This time, the Cowboys scored four touchdowns and a field goal on their first five possessions. New Orleans hasn’t forced a turnover since the first quarter of the season opener against Atlanta. “Whenever you have a talented group like this on paper, you shouldn’t be 13, but it’s still early,” cornerback Corey White said. “In order to go far into the playoffs, we have to fix those problems, but we still have a shot to get into the postseason.” The offense was part of the problem, too, committing three turnovers. Drew Brees threw an interception in the first half. Tight end Jimmy Graham and running back Travaris Cadet lost fumbles in the second half. Even in its victory against Minnesota, New Orleans scored its fewest points at home since its final regular-season game in 2010. “At the end of the day the players are the ones that have to make plays,” offensive tackle Zach Strief said. “The coaches can rescheme or try to motivate and all those things, but it’s on us. It’s absolutely on the leadership in the locker room. It’s on us to get it straight.” The kicking game hasn’t helped, either. Shayne Graham was wide right on a 41-yard field goal against Dallas a week after missing an extra point. When the Saints pulled within 31-17 in the fourth quarter at Dallas, a fake punt ended with punter Thomas Morstead losing two yards after finding no open receivers. “There’s a lot of things that need to be cleaned up,” Payton said. “Quite honestly, we’re playing like a 13 team right now, and that’s what our record is.” ___ AP NFL websites: www.pro32.ap.org and www.twitter.com/AP_NFL

After leading touchdown drives on nine of his last 10 series in a backup role, LSU freshman quarterback Brandon Harris is slated to make his first start in the 15th-ranked Tigers’ first Southeastern Conference road game of the season at No. 5 Auburn this Saturday. LSU coach Les Miles announced the change in the pecking order on Monday, two days after Anthony Jennings, who started the first five games for LSU (41) had arguably his worst outings of the season before Harris entered the game and led seven straight touchdown drives. “It stands to reason that (Harris) will get the first snaps in the next game,” Miles said. “He has done the things we have asked him to do. He has made quality decisions with the ball.” However, the LSU defense will be without one of its statistical leaders for the game and likely for the rest of the season. A person familiar with
the situation said safety Dwayne Thomas, who was helped off the field Saturday night against New Mexico State, has a torn anterior cruciate ligament. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because LSU has not announced Thomas’ injury. Thomas, a redshirt sophomore, did not start but played regularly. His 24 tackles rank fifth on the team. He also has 1 1/2 sacks, an interception and a fumble recovery. Freshman Jamal Adams could see more playing time in six-defensive back, or “dime” formations during Thomas’ absence. As for Harris, his performance has ranged from efficient to spectacular since he relieved Jennings in the final five minutes of LSU’s 34-29 loss to Mississippi State two weekends ago. Jennings completed 13 of 26 passes for 157 yards in that game, which he left in the fourth quarter with LSU behind 34-16. See LSU Page 11-A

Local businesses partner to bring supplies, cash donations to schools
Vision Communications recently presented the Lafourche Parish Public School System with $3,285 in supplies and cash donations collected from its 2nd Annual “Pitch In Campaign.” Throughout the summer, Vision – in partnership with Walmart (Mathews and Galliano locations) and Callais Office Supply – once again “pitched in” to help local schools and, through the generosity of the local community, collected more than 4,500 individual school items valued at over $1,800. In addition, $1,485 in cash donations were also collected. “Our students and staff are appreciative of the school supplies collected for our schools,” said Jo Ann
Matthews, Lafourche Parish School District Superintendent. “We are amazed at the support we receive from our community. With continued federal and state cuts, these donations help our students achieve their goals.” “Vision appreciates that for students to be successful, they must have the fundamental resources needed to support their education in the classroom,” noted Peter Louviere, Vision Communications Chief Financial Officer. “As a member of the communities in which we serve, we are proud to continue our annual school supply drive in support of our regional schools and would like to thank our community and corporate partners for their generosity.”

LSU
From 9-A
Upon taking the field, Harris quickly marched the Tigers 95 yards, capped by a 31-yard scoring pass to Malachi Dupre. And after LSU recovered a fumbled snap, Harris hit Dupree with a 30-yard scoring strike to put the Tigers within one score with 1:27 left. LSU got the ball back once more on its own 20 with 20 seconds left, and Harris quickly moved the Tigers across midfield to set up a failed Hail Mary attempt, marking the only time in Harris’ last 10 series in which the Tigers failed to reach the end zone. “It’s just more about staying focused and not getting complacent about a little success,” Harris said following last Saturday’s victory over New Mexico State. “I knew when my opportunity came I wanted to make the most of it just to show everybody, and show the coaching staff that I could play.” Harris’ success against New Mexico State immediately followed a miserable stint for Jennings, who committed three turnovers — two interceptions and one fumble — on LSU’s first seven offensive series of the game. Harris followed with seven straight touchdown drives in which the strongarmed QB with the quick feet threw three touchdown passes and ran for two scores. “Harris has some ad-lib to his game which is very, very positive,” Miles said. “He is really fast and can really throw the ball. He can extend a play so really good things can happen.” Jennings has completed 51 percent of his passes (42-of-83) this sea-
son for 734 yards and five touchdowns with three interceptions. In a smaller body of work, Harris has completed 73 percent (22of-30) for 394 yards and six touchdowns with one interception. “I am comfortable with Brandon as the starter,” senior tailback Terrence Magee said. “I told Brandon after the game Saturday to stay focused and stay humble. He just needs to continue to grow in the offense.” ___
