LeBouef From 1-A
LeBouef is a suspect in last year’s robbery of a Galliano couple who said they were tied up and threatened with a gun and baseball bat. The homeowner, Jim Guidry, 64, was killed in a head-on crash June 8, 2015, on La. 1 just south of Golden Meadow. Lafourche sheriff’s deputies responded to Guidry’s home on East 150th Street about 2:30 a.m. May 13, 2015, after he and his wife reported two masked men had burst into their bedroom while they were asleep. Guidry, who owned Big Jim’s Seafood in Golden Meadow, then told The Courier and Daily Comet the robbers took $6,000 or $7,000 from his pants pocket, a safe containing just over $100,000 and the couple’s SUV. He said they also stole seven pistols from him, about five of the shotguns his son was storing at his home and a few silver dollars his wife had collected. Golden Meadow Police found the SUV abandoned on Louviere Lane. According to the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office, LeBouef and Santos Dardar, 32, entered the home by breaking a window. Dardar’s cousin, Donald Dardar, 36, of
Montegut, reportedly drove the getaway vehicle. Santos Dardar pleaded guilty May 23 and was sentenced to 40 years in prison without the benefit of probation or parole. Donald Dardar’s wife, Mandy Dardar, 30, was in the getaway vehicle, the Sheriff’s Office said. She was charged as an accessory and later pleaded guilty. Prosecutors said Mandy Dardar had agreed to testify against the other defendants. However, she was killed Feb. 25 in a crash on La. 308 in Larose. Donald Dardar is also charged with armed robbery but remains in the Terrebonne Parish jail on unrelated charges.

Sediment diversions should be operated on a pulse that mimics the natural flood cycle of the Mississippi River, which includes taking full advantage of winter flood peaks from November through February when the greatest concentration of sediment is available in the river, as well as operating in the spring when sand needed for building land is at its highest. Operations plans should include robust monitoring and flexibility for adjustments based on rapidly changing conditions, such as hurricanes and other events. Diversions should be opened gradually over a 510 year period to help develop distributary channel networks, reduce flooding risks, and allow plants, fish, and wildlife species to adjust to new conditions. Local communities, industries and others that will be affected by diversions must be consulted and kept informed throughout all phases of diversion development and operations. Since the 1930s, Louisiana has lost nearly 1,900 square miles of land, or a football field of land every hour, primarily due to leveeing of the river for flood control and navigation. In the midst of this ongoing land loss crisis, sediment diversions are vital restoration tools needed to build and sustain coastal wetlands. These wetlands are crucial for protecting communities and industries from the effects of storms and rising seas as well as providing habitat for birds and wildlife.

rebonne General Medical Center. Public agencies sell bonds as a way of borrowing money to pay for major projects and use tax money or other revenue to repay the debt over time. Kennedy said the state was able to save about $14 million by selling the bonds at a lower interest rate than had been predicted. Here’s a quick look at the two local projects on the list:
The Sediment Diversion Operations Expert Working Group is a body of independent scientists and experts formed by Environmental Defense Fund, in coordination with Restore the Mississippi River Delta coalition partners, which include non-government groups with long histories of working on the Louisiana coast. The group developed and shared operational recommendations with Louisiana’s Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA), the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, other state and federal agencies, the larger scientific community, and communities and businesses with a stake in the operation of diversions.

TGMC medical records: Officials at the public hospital said last month that the $20 million from the bond sale is meant to upgrade an outdated system to one that fits new federal requirements. The new system allows patient records to be moved electronically among doctors and hospitals. The Terrebonne Parish Council approved the bond sale in June. The debt will be repaid using hospital revenue. Lafourche jail: The state board approved the sale of $44 million worth of bonds for the construction project. Discussed for years, officials broke ground on the new jail in June across the road from the current one, along La. 3185 at Veterans Boulevard in Thibodaux. Sheriff Craig Webre has estimated that the 600-bed jail will cost about $30 million to construct and should be complete sometime next year. The debt will be repaid with money from a 0.2 percent sales tax parish voters approved in May 2015. The current jail, built in 1976, was designed to hold fewer than 100 inmates. It now has a capacity to hold up to 245 inmates, but the parish has been forced to house inmates in other parishes

Louisiana residents hit limit on solar energy tax credits
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Louisiana’s Department of Revenue says homeowners have applied for more solar energy tax credits this year than the amount of money available to pay claims. The revenue department said in a news release Act 131 of the 2015 regular legislative session placed yearly limits of $10 million for each of the first two years and a $5 million cap for the third year. It ends Dec. 31, 2017. The department says homeowners have applied for $39 million worth of credits. It says people who buy solar energy systems from this point forward should not expect to get the credits. Officials say taxpayers who don’t get refunds under the 2016 fiscal year cap will be notified if they’re eligible for claims under the caps for the second and third year. Certified letters will notify taxpayers who couldn’t get money because it ran out. ________________

113-year-old New Jersey woman has title of oldest American
PITTSTOWN, N.J. (AP) — A 113-year-old New Jersey woman is the new holder of the title of oldest American. The Record newspaper reports Adele Dunlap became the country’s oldest person earlier this month following the death of a Worcester, Massachusetts, woman. Dunlap lives at the Country Arch Care Center in Pittstown. The Los Angeles-based Gerontology Research Group, which tracks supercentenarians, or people 110 and older, says Dunlap is also the 10th oldest person in the world. Dunlap didn’t give an explanation for her longevity and her 86-year-old son, Earl, was also at a loss for words to describe her long life. The care center’s activities director says Dunlap is a passive participant in daily activities and socializes minimally but looks forward to Girl Scouts’ coming to sing Christmas carols. 2 nurses plead guilty to health care fraud
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Two south Louisiana nurses have pleaded guilty to health care fraud. U.S. Attorney Kenneth A. Polite says 31-year-old Erica Edwards, of New Or-
leans and 43-year-old Jeff Koon, of Lockport, entered their pleas Wednesday. On April 21, Polite says Edwards and Koon were charged along with 12 other defendants in a 31-count superseding indictment charging approximately $30.2 million in Medicare fraud. He says the two RNs assessed the status of their patients, initiating a plan of care, evaluating patient needs, providing compre-
hensive nursing care, among other things. Polite says Koon and Edwards pleaded guilty to fraudulently recertifying patients for home health by recording false changes in medications and exacerbations in medication conditions that did not occur and falsely documented that patients were homebound. U.S. District Judge Susie Morgan set sentencing for Feb. 1.
A Raceland man pled guilty to four arson charges Tuesday prior to the beginning of his felony jury trial. Treiston Pierron, 33, was charged with three counts of simple arson for setting a fire to a residence at 156 Hyland Drive in Gheens on July 4 last year. The fire consumed that structure, and destroyed the two neighboring houses as well. Additionally, Pierron was charged with one count of aggravated arson after setting an intentional fire at the Lafourche Parish Detention Center while incarcerated there. “It is tragic that three families have lost their homes because of the conduct of this man,” said District Attorney Camille A. Morvant, II. “But we are certainly thankful that no one was injured by his acts.” Assistant District Attorney Jason Chatagnier prosecuted the case. Pierron was sentenced to ten years in prison on all four counts, which were ordered to run concurrently. The case was investigated by the State Fire Marshall’s Office and the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office. The evidence against Pierron included not only the forensic analysis conducted by the fire marshall,
but the testimony of neighbors who observed Pierron arrive and depart the scene by motorcycle shortly before the fire was observed. Additionally, surveillance video captured the suspect arriving at the scene by motorcycle, and firing what appeared to be roman candles at the house. Witnesses also stated that Pierron appeared to be intoxicated before the fires. Pierron had denied any involvement in the Gheens fire, but acknowledged that he travelled by motorcycle.

Radical Feminist
A radical feminist is getting on a bus when, just in front of her, a man gets up from his seat. She thinks to herself, “Here’s another man trying to keep up the customs of a patriarchal society by offering a poor, defenseless
woman his seat,” and she pushes him back onto the seat. A few minutes later, the man tries to get up again. She is insulted again and refuses to let him up. Finally, the man says, “Look, lady, you’ve got to let me get up. I’m two miles past my stop already.”

What a Life!
By: Rev. Wilmer L. Todd Independence is a myth; we are all dependent on someone or something
I appeared on Keith Weisheit’s self-help television program on channel 10 in Houma on Thursday, July 7. The topic for the evening was “independence.” There are three segments to the program. In the first segment the three panelists talked about what they did on the 4th of July. In the second segments I dropped a “bombshell” when I made two statements: “Independence is a myth; and, independence was the Original Sin,

the sin of Adam and Eve.” I will like to amplify what I meant by these observations. George Bernard Shaw once said, “Independence? That’s middle class blasphemy. We are all dependent on one another, every soul of us on earth.” No being is totally independent except God. The Divine Ruler does not need anyone or anything to exist. We know that God is also inter-relational. Christians believe that there are three Persons in the Godhead: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Genesis tells us that God made us after the image and likeness of the Divine Creator. That means we are made interdependent on each other. God created us to be social beings that require involvement with others to meet our physical, emotional and spiritual needs. If you are looking for a life filled with happiness, then you should learn to ask for help and support. This is the only way we can grow and thrive and become the people God created us to be. The definition of dependence is “a reliance on something or someone.” Let’s face it. We are all dependent to some extent. Even our Declaration of Independence is a myth. We depended on the French, the Spanish and others to break away from the English. Today the U.S. is more dependent on other nations than we were in 1776. “Dependency” is a not dirty word. Every person on earth is dependent on someone or something. We will never become absolutely autonomous or totally self-sufficient. As we mature, we want “to stand on our own two feet.” Our goal in life is to be able to “take care of ourselves” and to cut the “umbilical

Lafourche Animal Shelter getting renovations The Lafourche Parish Animal Shelter is getting an expansion and renovations with a new building being added next door to the existing shelter. Manager Hilary Knight said it will be used mostly as an intake bay and for dogs being held in bite cases. Knight said Picciola Construction is handling the project. The existing shelter is also getting new floors, as well as wipeable walls and ceilings, Knight said. The total cost will be about $80,000. Knight said the expansion will help make the shelter less cramped.
It also means the 13 existing dog kennels will be only for those available for adoption, Knight added. That way, adoptable dogs won’t have to be euthanized to make room for those being held in bite
The Catholic Community Center is having a $2 per bag of clothing, clearance sale. Shelves and clothing racks are restocked each day before opening for a continuous variety of goods for sale. CCC is located at 9018 East Avenue A in Galliano next to the South Lafourche Tarpon Bridge [directly behind Renovations]. The money raised is used to purchase food items for the Center’s food pantry to help those residents who are in great need and live south of the Valentine Bridge. The store is open on Mondays from 2-4 p.m., Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and on Fridays from 10 a.m. to noon. The CCC has a large assortment of clothing, shoes, purses, bags, books, and many other items.

cord” from our parents. When two people love each other, the goal is for each person to “be his or her own person” and be willing to give, receive and share the gifts, passions, dedication and love of the other. When we fail to recognize the gifts of the other and how much we depend upon the support of others, our life becomes more difficult and lonely. We all know that children are dependent on their parents or caregivers. Adults too can become more dependent when they are sick, or in an accident, or part of the aging process. These types of dependencies are good and necessary. However, codependent relationships are a type of dysfunctional relationship where one person supports or enables another person’s addiction, poor mental health, immaturity, irresponsibility, or underachievement. The core characteristic of codependency is an excessive reliance on other people for approval and identity. This type of dependency is harmful. I also say that the Original Sin was wanting to be “independent.” Listen to what the serpent told Eve went she said didn’t know why God said that they should not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. “You will not die; for God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” In other words, they want to be gods and independent from the Creator. That sin is still with us today. We choose to do our will and not the will of God. We follow Adam and Eve and not Jesus Christ who prayed in the other garden, “Your will be done.”
