Letter From The Publisher Assessing Your Storm-Damaged Shrubs
I love living on the south shore of Long Island. I love the people, the towns along the Great South Bay and our beloved Fire Island. Even as temperatures remain in the teens, the warmth of my fellow south shore residents and local businesses is evident. This feeling of camaraderie has never been more apparent than in the aftermath of Storm Sandy, as people came together to help one another in a unique time of need. All of the joint efforts displayed have reinforced the importance of having a strong base of hometown support. In this issue of The List, we are introducing Focus On The Shore – a segment you will find in upcoming editions – which will serve as a source for information, inspiration and recommendations of professionals and businesses who are equipped to help in restoring our homes.
We share a heartwarming story from a father’s perspective, recounting how the storm brought him closer to his daughter, as well as an inspiring article of one man’s last-minute attempt to shrink-wrap his home prior to the flood. You will find a selection of great contractors and woodworkers, including Keenan Custom Homes, Kalifornia Custom Carpentry, Cottone Kitchens and Complete Kitchen & Bath Design. Give them a call and decide which one fits your needs. We salute the stories of merchants working together to better serve the community, as in the joint venture of Massimiliano Gargiuli of Solo Vino and Anthony Latino of The Babylon Cheese Cellar in an effort to bring Molto Vino to the Babylon neighborhood. Our Bridal section captures a handful of great finds, spotlighting specialty shops such as Louis Anthony Jewelers for the engagement ring, Only You for personalized custom invitations and engraved gifts, Manhattan Bakery for specialty cakes that taste as good as they look and Designs By Joy Floral Design, which was voted Best of the Knot for 2013. Located within steps of one another, these merchants strive to make your wedding a seamless affair.
Many clients have expressed their concerns regarding the impact of Super Storm Sandy on their trees, shrubs and ornamental plants. Here are some “Must Know” tips to help our readers assess their damage… Q. Why are my evergreens brown and dying? A. Many of the brown needles and foliage are a direct result of “wind burn,” high wind speeds for sustained amounts of time. The majority of this damage will correct itself over time, as seen following Hurricane Irene. Damaged needles should drop off as new spring growth arrives, resolving the problem. Q. What do I do if all my plants were under salt water? A. Due to the seasonal timing of “Sandy,” most plants were dormant or moving toward dormancy, meaning there was limited uptake of moisture and nutrients from the soil into the plant cells. However, this doesn’t mean there was no damage to the fibrous root system, which consists of small, hair-like roots along the larger root. When a tree or shrub is transplanted from one location to another, most of these fibrous roots are severed or damaged, although they regrow once transplanted. This can certainly be the case with salt damage. The majority of trees and shrubs should be fairly resilient. Phil Terribile Terri Associates Landscape Corp.
As a special treat to keep you warm at home, we have collected an array of recipes from our favorite restaurants for you to try. Or, if you prefer to go out, just call them for a reservation and have these dishes served right to your table! As Long Islanders, the winter is a time to regroup, work on indoor projects and dream of summer days and better times ahead. It has now been one year since our magazine began publishing, and we are beyond thrilled with all of the wonderful feedback and encouragement we have received over the last twelve months. Please stay connected with us on our Facebook page, and let us know your thoughts and feedback, as well as any great finds to share in future editions. Until next time,

I Shrink Wrapped My Home And Saved It From Storm Sandy! You Can Too! By: Dr. William Marletta, Ph.D., CSP
Here’s a new idea for flood prevention that really worked – easy, fast and cheap… We all knew that Storm Sandy was coming, but I don’t think anyone anticipated the severity of the wind and tide. I live on the water in West Islip, on Cedar Point Drive, and have been here for 21 years without the tide ever coming over the bulkhead. This was certainly a different day.
Denise and I worked together, placing the strip along the back of the house about 3 feet above the ground along the side of the home, as well as 3 feet along the ground. We secured the plastic with wood furring strips (approximately 1-1/2” wide) along the side of the house, screwed it into the siding with wood screws (see photo). We secured the plastic to the ground with the use of some leftover paver bricks that I happened to have nearby. The pavers were laid sporadically on top of the plastic. I was not positive this would work, and was concerned the water might seep under the plastic and enter my home from below. However, nothing ventured, nothing gained. To my surprise and happiness, no water seeped from underneath. Apparently, the weight of the water on top of the plastic created a seal to keep the water from travelling under. How well did this this shrink wrap method work? Incredibly, the tide was estimated to be about 10” to 15” above the ground level – and yet not a drop of water entered my home! The levels rose to well over the sliding doors, and most of my neighbors had water damage on their first floor. This was simply done with shrink wrap, a box knife, furring strips, wood screws and bricks or pavers. This method of protection took no more than 20 minutes to install and was actually done during the storm. It involved no heavy lifting and was quite rewarding in its end results.
By the early afternoon, the tide had reached the top of the dock – and it was still low tide. I knew I had to do something, but what? Neighbors had suggested that we use sand bags, but I knew the installation would be a tremendous amount of work and not very effective. Then an idea came to me in the middle of the storm… I called my good friend and trusted boat maintenance man, Denise McCann: “What if we shrink wrap the house?” I asked. He probably thought I was nuts. After a short while, we worked out a plan that seemed to make sense. Denise had white shrink wrap boat material leftover from his boat-wrap business. He came right over with a roll. He laid the 18’ wide material in my garage, cutting it into three strips, each 6 feet wide. He then used his “flame thrower” to melt the plastic and attached the 6’ wide strips end-toend to create one long strip. (The heat melts the plastic to make it adhere as one piece.) We then rolled up the single 6’ wide plastic strip and brought it to the back of the house for installation. 917.559.7821

“This was the best weekend ever.” Normally, for any parent, that is sweet music to your ears. It is even more so for a part-time parent. I am a single dad of a beautiful 10 year-old daughter, and I get to spend time with her every other weekend and one night a week. That kind of arrangement does not feel natural for the child or the parent. So when we are together, I do my best to make sure I am making it quality time with her. When Hurricane Sandy swept through Long Island, the floodwaters ruined the house that my daughter and her mom lived in, along with their belongings. It was difficult to see the hurt on my little girl’s face as she saw all her toys and the only home she has ever known, destroyed. The following weekend was my scheduled weekend with my daughter. I worried about what I could do to help soften the impact the storm was going to have on her life. I was still without power and heat, and with the gasoline shortages and bridges being closed, my options were limited on what I could do. So we got up early each morning and ate hard-boiled eggs. Thank goodness for the gas stove. I boiled a pot of water for showers, and we talked about colonial days and how they would have to bathe. We would play games in the house and have peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for lunch. Then we would bundle up and grab a Frisbee and a soccer ball and walk up to the local high school and play on the football/ soccer field, taking turns shooting goals on each other. Then we would take a break and pretend to get caught in the net like fish. When we got tired of that we would have a Frisbee catch – or, I should say, run – because it was a windy weekend, and on an open field, that little piece of plastic sure could cover a lot of ground! We walked our way back home rosy-cheeked and tired. Well, maybe it was more me that was the tired one. Afterwards, we went out and had dinner at a diner with Grammy and Grandpa. Then we finished the night back home, playing a little Boggle and Pictureka on the iPad until it was time for bed. On Sunday night when my ex-wife came to pick up my daughter, my little girl gave me a big hug and kiss and told me those magic words: “Daddy, this was the best weekend ever.” I could have cried. The one thing that she really needed is the same thing all children want from their parents – their undivided attention. Even though I try my best to spend quality time with her, it is not as concentrated as it should be. Normally, we would watch TV together and she would play with her Barbies or other toys, while I would check my e-mail, Facebook or be on the phone. That is not the same thing as being truly engaged and interacting with each other. So now my weekends include an unplugged day with no electronics – just real one-on-one time for the whole day. Thank you, Sandy, for the lesson.
The Best Ways To Accent Your Home With Style Interiors
Exteriors
1- Wainscoting: Decorative woodwork applied to the lower portion of a wall. It can be created using hardwood, or made from cost-effective MDF in many styles.
6- Custom Shutters: Consider a detailed raised panel with a unique style instead of the standard louver.
2- Crown Moulding: One of the fine details that sets a custom home apart. It offers a grand transition from ceiling to wall and hides any imperfections. 3- Fireplace Mantel: The old adage “home is where the hearth is” still holds true. A custom fireplace surround and mantle will add untold resale value to your home, as well as solve many storage issues. 4- Coffered Ceiling: Coffered ceilings can be as simple as straight recycled barn boards or as detailed as the one pictured below. 5- Custom Built-In Cabinetry: Built to suit each space exactly, custom cabinetry creates a focal point, while adding value to your home.
“
7- Exterior Trim: Azek products are a durable and paintable plastic material that will not rot and will allow you to invest in accenting the exterior of your home without the fear of yearly painting. 8- Custom Mailbox, Planters and Window Boxes: While there is nothing wrong with a standard clay pot, something that sets your home apart is always a nice touch. 9- TimberTech Decking: Simply changing out your pressure-treated decking with a composite product like TimberTech adds color and refinement to your home. 10- Siding: If your siding is in good shape but you could use some curb appeal, consider replacing just your front siding with Cedar Impressions. They add depth and interest to the front of your home.
The beauty of the South Shore is that you can find homes of grandeur as well as quaint neighborhoods with a cape, a center hall colonial, a Tudor or a ranch, all on the same street. As a craftsman, I love to work in houses where people adore their neighborhoods and want their homes to be a reflection of their lives. The recent events of Super Storm Sandy have left many of us South Shore residents thinking of our beloved coast. As a foreigner from rolling hills of emerald green, Long Island has been home to me for the past fifteen years now, and I am both compassionate and passionate about helping to restore our residences through this Focus On The Shore.

MOLTO VINO A WINE AND CHEESE OSTERIA
A Perfect Pairing, Wine & Cheese Massimiliano Gargiulo, aka Maxi, of Solo Vino and Molto Vino – a Wine & Cheese Osteria, and Anthony Latino of The Babylon Cheese Cellar are both extremely passionate men…the former for wine and the latter for his love of cheese. And as luck would have it, these two specialty shops have opened within steps of each other. The new neighbors immediately recognized the advantages of their proximity and shared mission of providing a unique customer experience. Both entrepreneurs invite customers to learn, respectively, about wine and cheese. And both invite visitors to sample from their worldspanning array of offerings.

Maxi developed his passion for wine while growing up in Italy. As a young boy, he would go to the vineyards to pick grapes with his father, a cabinet maker by trade, but with a passion for wine. Years later, Maxi opened Molto Vino, a hip wine bar ideally located between Solo Vino – his retail wine boutique – and The Babylon Cheese Cellar. This establishment is a true treasure for those who love wine, offering a selection of 100 wines by the glass. Even better, you may sample before you choose! And honoring the perfect pair that is wine and cheese, the menu features tapas dishes and
small plates, which include flavorful cheeses and charcuterie from The Cellar next door.
For The Love Of Cheese
But Molto Vino isn’t just a palate pleaser. It’s a visual delight as well. A fine cabinet and woodworker just like his father, Maxi poured his creative wood and metalworking talents into every detail of his new wine bar. (Be sure to check out the beautiful handcrafted light fixtures that run the length of the counter.) The result is a cozy, warm atmosphere that transports you to a modern European café. Anthony has been in the wholesale gourmet food business for years, affording him access to the wisdom of cheese makers from all over the world. Accordingly, The Babylon Cheese Cellar has offered locals a taste of Europe over the past fourteen months since its inception. Imports include everything from French delicacies like Brillat-Savarin, to Swiss favorites Gruyere and Raclette, alongside American artisanal offerings such as Kunik and Pleasant Ridge Reserve. To make your visit complete, they also stock an expansive but refined selection of specialty foods, charcuterie, extra virgin olive oils, pastas, vinegars and more.
With a rustic feel and welcoming atmosphere, these fine establishments provide the perfect venues for the ultimate wine and cheese experience… and only steps from one another, they truly are the “Perfect Pair!”

Start Your Skin Revival Today In the search for an anti-aging skin solution, consumers are constantly bombarded with a selection of skincare products, each claiming to provide the “fountain of youth.” In reality, therapeutic skincare can be broken down relatively simply. Let’s explore it together… First, let’s recognize that there are problems in peoples’ perception of what “proper” skincare is. Big business is taking advantage of our desire for skin improvement, and everyone is trying to cash in. What this means for the average consumer is that they have often spent a significant amount of money on over-the-counter products, each of which has made promises which have yet to be realized. Consider the difference between an over-the-counter medication versus a prescription medication; the latter suggests the need for a specialist and more personal tailoring of that medication. Our skin is no different. Pharmaceuticalgrade skincare (provided by a physician) can be tailored to the individual’s needs and requires periodic follow-up to ensure continued improvement. The truth of the matter is, there is no over-the-counter solution which will provide a noticeable improvement for anti-aging. However, this leads us to the good news… The good news is that there ARE solutions available to consumers, and there is no need to “break the bank” in doing so. There is significant scientific data to suggest everyone over 35 (this means women AND men) can benefit from a therapeutic skincare program. The first step should be in consulting with a physician (most likely a plastic surgeon or a dermatologist, and it should be
complimentary) to determine the best course of action for your skin. At your first appointment, expect to spend in the range of $350-$400 for the initial set of products. However, this first set should last you approximately 9-10 months, and, as your skin continues to improve, this initial cost will not be repeated (more good news). The best part is that, when you look in the mirror, you will SEE the difference. However, be prepared for some initial, temporary adverse reactions. It is helpful to think of skincare in terms of “out with the bad, in with the good.” In the beginning, there may be some lessthan-appealing changes possible, such as redness, blotching, flaking, etc. These are all signs of the improvements being made at the deeper levels of the skin. While they are temporary, it is necessary to tolerate these short-term effects. A benefit to being under the care of the specialist is that they can help you prepare for and support you through this phase, if needed. Incidentally, the best time for aggressive skin improvement is winter, while the sun “has no power” to minimize effects on the healthy, emerging skin. So, if you are interested in refreshing your appearance and reviving your skin, make that initial consultation appointment today, and begin your path to enhancement.

Beauty Marks, by Susan Featuring A Q&A To Alleviate Some Of Our Brides’ Biggest Worries… Q: How do I go about creating the perfect day without any glitches?
Q: What can I do to help inspire the makeup artist and hair stylist to create my perfect bridal look?
A: It is almost impossible. Remember, the beauty of your day is a celebration of love. The challenging task of trying to create the perfect wedding is daunting. It can rain, the limos can be late and Aunt Sophie’s plane might not arrive. Enjoy and cherish each and every moment. During your reception, make sure to stop for a moment and take it all in!
A: Bring a picture of your wedding gown and meet for a consultation before the trial. This will go a long way in getting to know the real you – your likes, dislikes, hopes and dreams…your inner beauty!
Q: What do I do to prevent a breakout the week before my wedding? A: Your daily skincare routine should be maintained. A great way to achieve that bridal glow can include a trip to a medical spa for a detoxifying facial. Book an appointment three weeks prior to kill all bacteria with medical-grade products that contain no fragrance and no derivatives – it’s a must! Q: How can I avoid dark circles under my eyes? A: Drink plenty of water and be sure to get extra sleep! Purchase an eye cream with caffeine from a medical spa in order to reduce inflammation and the appearance of puffiness under your eyes. Leave the rest of the worrying to your makeup artist! 16 | The LIst Magazine
917.559.7821
Q: Will my hair and makeup last all day? A: Yes, but be sure to choose your stylists carefully. Word-of-mouth and referrals are the best form of validation. Anyone can advertise, but your friend who got married last year and looked fabulous all night long is a great referral! Also, make sure you plan your makeup and hair trials for when you have a wedding to attend, or even prior to your engagement photos. Put their work to a real test!

The Look
What’s Trending For The Wedding For the mother of the Bride/Groom
While gowns have ruled the last several years, short dresses are experiencing a resurgence. Knee-length or longer tea-length skirts are both great options, especially for destination weddings.
The Look includes soft-fitted bodices with full skirts, as well as dresses - mixing and layering fabrics, such as metallic lace with iridescent taffeta.
“Apart from the fact that I really love rings, for me the idea of an engagement ring represents the commitment of that couple.” “I love the fact that your boyfriend has found the time to research your likes and dislikes in that scenario. Most of them do know that THE ring is important. However, size is not everything - knowing that your boyfriend has saved up for that particular ring also means a lot to me :)”
“
Although everyone wants to look their best in evening wear, many women are uncomfortable showing their arms and opt for a jacket for cover. We, on the other hand, at Eva's Fashion Boutique, can create a wonderful alternative with our Sleevelet or Portrait Collar to cover your arms and back - and the look is amazing!

Accenting The Wedding Peonies
The most requested flower for the past two years. Unfortunately, they have a very short growing season – so brides, if your wedding date is not when they are in bloom, you’re going to need a back up. The classic rose is always a lovely alternative. “The whole wedding, including your flowers, should be a reflection of your personalities to make it your own.” – Joy Berding, Floral Stylist
Metallic Invitations
Something that brides are loving right now is metallic lettering on their invitations. The gold, silver or bronze color really makes the words pop, and who doesn’t love something shiny? And on the opposite end of the spectrum, “Letterpress printing on textured paper is becoming more recognized and sought after by today’s brides,” states Melinda Cantor, owner of Only You “And another thing we are now seeing is Vibrant colors such as chartreuse, red and robin egg blue are being coupled with gray for a colorful, yet sophisticated presentation.” 18 | The LIst Magazine

What’s Trending For The Wedding For the bride
For the bridesmaids
Colored Bridal Gowns: Gowns are emerging in shades beyond traditional white, ivory and cream, whether it’s a subtle touch of pale pastel or a more colorful creation drenched in a rosy hue. Lace details, from full-on lace to just a touch to accent the dress, and contrasting, colored lace work as well.
Bridesmaids are in luck! Brides now want their girls to wear dresses they feel good in! One of the latest looks we have been seeing for bridesmaids is more of a cocktail-length dress rather than the classic gown.
Illusion Neckline: A sheer overlay at the top of the dress shows a hint of skin while still keeping it modest. Fanciful Backs: From keyhole cut-outs to cascading, the illusion effect seen in necklines, along with bow accents... these are some of the stylish embellishments being showcased on the backs of bridal gowns this year. Sleeves: Sleeved dresses remain a strong trend. Vintage: The styles of the 20’s are very romantic and are “roaring” back into popular culture. Gloves: Add an elegant touch with wrist-length or elbowlength satin gloves. This brings the whole look together.
Color palettes are also becoming much softer. Taupes, grays and blushes are shaping up to be the biggest colors of the year, along with navy. Coral is a viable option for a bolder color, rather than hot pink.
“I will vow to help you love life...to always hold tenderness...to have the patience that love demands...to speak when words are needed and to share the silence when they are not...to agree to disagree about a red velvet cake...to live within the warmth of your heart and always call it home.” – Paige in “The Vow” 917.559.7821

The Bride & Groom… And The Travel Agent Couples need to decide what is best for themselves. Consider a destination that BOTH of you want to experience. Determine an estimated budget and then sit down and discuss what you really want to do on your dream Honeymoon. Listen to each other’s wishes; then try to compromise on a decision that will please bride, groom and budget. Hotels, resorts and destinations are in a constant state of flux. The island your best friends visited last year could have changed considerably since their departure. Properties close, are sold or are renovated – so be sure to do your homework. A knowledgeable travel agent can be your best asset, but also take the initiative to look at current reviews yourself. Investigate online, but remember not to put too much stock into what you read. You don’t know the source, their taste, nor their mindset. Airfares rise and fall depending upon the economy, supply and demand. Using mileage or points can save dollars. Mileage can be transferred from family members or can be used to upgrade your economy tickets to First Class. Once you make your decision and deposit, most agencies will allow you to make periodic payments to avoid a large, last minute payment when the balance is due.
Travel agents can work with couples by creating inserts to be included in Bridal Shower invites, allowing guests to pay toward the Honeymoon as a shower gift. Guests can contact the agency to either make a direct payment toward the trip or receive a Gift Certificate to be used as the couple wishes. There are other gift registry sites that will allow you to register for their Honeymoon experiences and preferences. Once your Wedding date is set and the arrangements agreed upon, make an appointment to discuss your plans. Allow enough time to find the best airfare and room category that you want. When booking so far in advance, there is a good chance a sale at your chosen resort may be offered once you’ve already made your deposit. Sometimes, barring any restrictions, the pricing can be adjusted to take advantage of the new offer. Working closely with your agent will afford you the best value for your dream honeymoon. Also remember to inquire about travel insurance. Protect your investment. Things do happen that require rescheduling or cancellation, and you need to be prepared to cover that possibility. 22 | The LIst Magazine

Fitlist To Live By 1. Eat Less, More Often. Spread your calories throughout the day by eating several, smaller meals, preferably earlier in the day when it is easier to burn the calories off.
WHAT IN THE
WORLD ARE YOU WAITING FOR?
2. Take Small Bites. No need to overhaul your entire diet all at once. Start with minor adjustments like drinking more water or cutting down on fat.
3. De-Fat Your Dairy. Opt for skim milk, nonfat yogurt and low or reduced-fat cheese – and remember, a serving of cheese is only a oneinch cube!
4. Cut Your Coffee Intake. Lattes, mochas and iced coffee beverages can pack 400 or 500 calories into one cup. Opt for herbal tea and caffeine-free soda instead.
5. Pack In The Produce. Increasing the number of fruits and vegetables in your diet will aid your weight-loss efforts. The fiber in them will fill you up. Shoot for at least five servings a day.
6. Save Your Gas. If you drive to work, leave your car five blocks away from your office and walk the difference. If you take the train or bus, get off at an earlier stop.

Aim for 30 minutes of exercise a day and break it up into 10-minute chunks to make it more doable. Write down your schedule – you are more likely to follow it if you see it documented.
I have been coming to World Gym since I moved to the area 18 years ago when my kids were small. It gave me back a part of myself – I was able to feel comfortable working out, all the while knowing that my toddlers were under the same roof with me at the nursery within the gym. As they grew, so did I – and when it came to fitness, I found I had the ability to train very hard when my goals changed. There are so many amenities to fit each level of fitness – including pool training – all within a warm, friendly, intimidation-free atmosphere. I love World Gym, and this is why I choose to highlight them in this issue of The List.
8. Indulge In Moderation.
- Joanne Lifavi, Publisher
7. Split It Up.
”
Eating out frequently can sabotage your diet efforts. Make it a treat, not a regular thing, and be sure to select restaurants that offer low-fat fare.
9. Brown-Bag It. Pack a healthy lunch each day – you’ll save money and calories, and won’t be tempted by fast food options.
10. Be Realistic. Even if you’d like to lose 30 pounds, break your goal into smaller segments – like losing five pounds at a time – instead. Cutting 400 calories from your usual daily intake is a good start.

Caring For Silk Garments 1. Use care in dressing and grooming to avoid staining silk items. Alcohol-based products such as hair spray and perfumes, and chemical products such as nail polish remover, can easily damage silk fabric. It is best to apply these before putting on a silk garment. 2. Some silk garments must be dry-cleaned; others can be wet-cleaned. These cleaning specifications depend on the dye, finish, garment style and construction.
Quality Dry Cleaning Specialty Cleaning Alterations Free Pick Up & Delivery
3. Do not over-wear a silk garment before cleaning it. Always clean it as soon as possible after the garment becomes soiled. 4. Use garment shields to prevent permanent stains from perspiration. Chloride salts found in perspiration and deodorants can weaken silk fibers and, depending upon the fabric construction, cause splitting at the underarms as well as staining. Perspiration can also damage certain dyes. 5. If you spill something on your silk garment, don’t put water on the spotted area. Water may set the stain or cause a permanent ring. Bring the item to your dry cleaners as soon as possible. Tell them what you spilled, where the stain is and how long it has been there. These factors are important, as the stain’s type and age determine the garment handling and stain removal procedures.

The Cold Facts About Wax If you wax your car only in the spring and summer, you are denying your car’s paint protection from the harshest elements of the year. After owning The Lindenhurst Hand Car Wash for over 10 years, the question I am asked the most is, how often should I wax my car? The answer really depends on the color and how nice you want to keep your car’s finish. Unfortunately, the most popular color, black, is the most difficult to maintain. For black or dark-colored cars, I explain to my customers that, in order to keep a deep, rich shine on the car’s finish, waxing it every two months is optimal. However, waxing it once a month will keep the car’s finish looking fabulous. For cars that have a lighter color, applying a coat of wax once every three months is optimal. After I have explained to them the optimal waxing protocol, they usually tell me that, since winter is coming, they will put off waxing the car until the spring. This is the biggest misconception of car care. Most people believe the sole purpose of waxing a car is to make it look nice. However, applying wax to a car’s paint not only makes the car look beautiful, but also adds a needed layer of protection to your car’s paint, which is designed to protect it from the elements of the environment. If you wax your car only in the spring and summer, you are denying your car’s paint protection from the harshest elements of the year. In winter, our roads are besieged with salt and sand in order to keep the roads clear when it snows. These elements can destroy your car’s finish and, without the protection from the wax you should be applying, the finish will start to look dull and scratchy. The more layers of wax applied to the paint, the more protection the paint has and the better the finish will look. In order to keep your car’s finish looking its best, remember to wax your car regularly. Four times a year is optimal, but for darker-colored cars, six times a year would not be out of the question. I recommend applying a coat of wax just before the change of each season so that your car’s paint is fully protected from the weather of each season.
