Cloudy2Clear Announce Trusted Trader Partnership Consumer champions Which? have now joined the thousands of customers who recognise that Cloudy2Clear Windows really are a business that you can TRUST. The company which specialises in repairing windows which are steamed up, broken or damaged by replacing the panes – not the frames has received the coveted ‘Which Trusted Trader’ status after going through a rigorous accreditation process entirely focussed on customer service. Group Managing Director Marcus McGee believes that Which? have endorsed Cloudy2Clear’s long standing company policy of delivering the
highest standards possible at all times. ‘Our service is simple. If your double glazing has misted up we can replace the glass at a fraction of the cost of a new window, in any type of frame, and with a new 5 year guarantee. But it’s not just about saving people money, although that obviously helps. Whilst a number of tradespeople perhaps don’t focus on customer care as much as they should do, we make sure we turn up when we say we will, do the job the customer requires and leave their house as clean as a whistle. Locally Cloudy2Clear service the Southend, Westcliff on Sea, prittlewell, Southchurch
& Chalkwell areas and manager Chris Miller agrees that this approach is a major factor in his success. ‘The truth is that it’s not just the personal satisfaction that I get from doing a good job but also it makes good business sense. I get a huge amount of business from friends and family of people I’ve done work for, which just goes to show how much a little bit of effort is appreciated as both my customers and, obviously a body as nationally important as Which? now recognise.’ So, if your windows are steamed up, broken or damaged give Chris a call for a free quotation on 0800 61 21 118 and he’ll be happy to help!

Can you help Re-Home a Dog from Acres Way Kennels? Adopting a Dog
I
f you think you can offer a dog a good home, the first thing you need to do is to go down to the kennels, select a suitable dog you like, take it for a walk and see how you get on. Some people and dogs just don’t get along, so before reserving a dog, the Acres Way staff would need to see if you suit each other. If you have children, or another dog, they recommend that you bring them with you, to make sure that everyone will get on. Once you have visited the dogs, and hopefully found one that matches your lifestyle and expectations, a member of staff will arrange a convenient time for a home check. These are usually carried out within 2
or 3 days of your visit and take about half an hour. Once the home check is complete, you’ll be able to collect your dog. You will need to bring with you some identification showing your current address, and the £130 adoption fee. Their staff will be on hand if you have any questions, and will be able to guide you through the adoption process. All the staff and dogs at Acres Way look forward to seeing you Re-Homing Update We are pleased that Billy the Jack Russell Terrier, Little Mo the Terrier and Todd the Husky that we featured in our last issue have all been successfully re-homed.

Money Guidance T
his years’ Budget genuinely appears to underpin the Governments rhetoric on ‘saving’. The much talked about reduction in tax reliefs on pension contributions did not materialize, in fact it was positively rebuked before the budget by Mr Osborne. Instead he has introduced higher income tax allowances enabling more people to save by increasing net income, raising the ISA limit next year and extending the Help to Buy ISA ideas with another new acronym, a ‘LISA’. The Government have also recognised that Financial Services regulation, the rules under which firms such as ours operate, are too restrictive and have driven up the cost of advice. They are consulting on some regulatory changes and to allow advice fees to be paid out of your pension fund. They recognize that the Money Advice Service and the Pensions Advisory Service have been inadequate in providing advice to those who can’t afford it and need to make Financial Advice more available again. Needless to say, within the industry, we were not surprised to hear this, although it is pleasing that they now recognize our role and that a weeks’ training on pensions is no substitute for our years of experience and qualifications! The Nation has a long term savings problem and this budget can only help that. In particular it reinforces Help to Buy ISAs, whereby the Government will add 25% of your contributions each year as long as the plan is used to buy a genuine first main residence or to secure a retirement income. They are not available to all and do have some restrictions and caveats, but this is a genuine commitment to encourage people to save. This will be helped by the annual ISA allowance, including the “LISA” element) to £20,000 per annum from 2017. The Chancellor does seem to have an eye on making Buy to Let investment less attractive. As well as the Stamp Duty increases and restrictions on claiming relief on interest payments announced last year, he has now made them relatively less attractive by lowering the Capital Gains Tax on stocks and shares investments, but NOT for Buy to Let. This makes the relative return from residential property investment much less attractive than from other sources and is a genuine tightening of policy to make Buy to Let less attractive in attempt to slow house price inflation. This combined with the saving inducements detailed above may mean that more genuine home
14
owners are able to buy, rather than just investors, if prices do actually begin to slow. An interesting point of detail concerns investing in Commercial Property. The rates of Stamp Duty did not benefit from the tiered system introduced a couple of years ago, so by applying a tiered system most smaller purchases will benefit from much lower stamp duty. This will be of particular interest to those buying through their pension funds, and may encourage more investment in this sector, again relative to house building. The Budget reconfirmed and extended some of last years’ pension freedoms, especially around some conflicting treatment of death benefits and ill health early retirement benefits. This only reinforces our view that pensions are still the most efficient medium for long term investment for Higher Rate tax payers. Whilst Mr Osborne did not reduce tax relief this year for higher earners, it may simply be because pension providers and payroll departments do not have the technology to limit the reliefs without sometime implementing system and software changes. The Treasury would have wanted any reduction in tax relief to be implemented immediately to prevent surge of large pension contributions, so by letting it go for now they may be able to give providers and pay roll time to make the necessary adjustments for future reductions? Watch this space! If this is the case then it will be prudent to maximise any pensions for higher rate relief in the short term, as there is still the political will behind the scenes to reduce higher rate tax relief. A point of warning, there are two important changes to pensions rules this April. Firstly, The Lifetime Allowance (LTA) for pensions reduces to £1 million from £1.25 million on 6th April and those affected should consider applying for one of the two types of “protection” available. Secondly, those earning over £150,000 will see a reduction in the amount they can contribute to a pension each year. Martin Lamb, Dip.PFS Certs CII (MP & ER) This information does not constitute an offer or advice and the service described may not be suitable for everyone. Alternative services may be offered if more suitable. Investments can go down as well as up and you could get back less than you paid in. Past Performance is not a guide to future returns. The “from launch” performance figures are from 29th October 2004 to 16th December 2015, and assume a £100,000 investment subject to our initial and ongoing charges for this level of investment. The performance figure for the last year is taken from 16th December 2014 to 16th December 2015. Assuming investment in our unit trust/OEIC portfolios, the returns from our ISAs and pension portfolios are higher.

10 Tips to make you fitter and healthier! I’m Sarah and I’m a Personal Trainer at Club One Hundred in Leigh on Sea. I spent years struggling with my weight, trying various diets and gym routines that didn’t work and left me bored and unmotivated. It wasn’t until I hired a personal trainer that I received the advice and guidance I needed around nutrition, exercise and my general wellness, and that’s when the changes really started to happen for me. As a trainer myself now, I am often asked for tips for losing weight and getting fitter. There are many things that I suggest to people, but here are some of my favourite tips for weight loss and wellbeing; Keep a food diary for a week and record EVERYTHING you eat and drink and how you feel at the beginning and end of each day, this gives you a good starting point to look at any changes that you could make. Switch your tea or coffee for green tea which is great for burning body fat. As an added bonus you’ll still get your caffeine kick but with more antioxidants which are great for your body! Drink plenty of water and put a slice of fresh lime in your glass, this will give the water some flavour and help to make your body more alkaline which in turn will help you burn body fat. Eat a good high protein breakfast, for example scrambled eggs with salmon and spinach, this will get your metabolism fired up for the day and will keep you fuller for longer. Switch processed carbs like bread and pasta for low GI carbs like sweet potato, butternut squash and parsnips. Include a green vegetable at each main meal, such as broccoli, kale, spinach, cucumber, watercress, rocket, green peppers, courgette. These are full of essential vitamins, minerals and fibre! Move more in your day to day life, for example take the stairs at work, walk the dog for five minutes longer, clean the car yourself, do anything that gets you moving more. Find a form of exercise that you enjoy! Why not take a dance or martial arts class, or try a sport you have always liked the look of, because when you enjoy exercise you are more likely to do it. Take a good quality liquid fish oil supplement, this will reduce inflammation in the body as well as aid weight loss. Make sure you are getting enough sleep, lack of sleep can leave you feeling irritable, unable to concentrate and also contributes to increased levels of the stress hormone cortisol in the body, which contributes to fat storage around the stomach area. If you apply these tips I guarantee you will improve your health and fitness. If you are interested in finding out how working with me can help you achieve even more e-mail me with the code: BIZGUIDE2016 at sarah.weston@clubonehundred.com, or give me a call on 07901 922002 Like me on Facebook: Sarah Weston Personal Training 16

This is done by...
Benefits advice and support
• giving impartial advice on money, housing, health and many other issues • providing a free counselling service for carers • organising social events and trips for carers and their families • bringing carers together to gain mutual support • standing up for carers who feel they’ve been treated unfairly.
Carer’s Allowance is the main benefit for carers. If you are looking after someone for 35 hours a week or more, you may be eligible. You don’t have to be related to or live with the person you care for. Southend Carers can give you advice on the benefits you can claim and help fill in your forms. For more details of the services provided call 01702 39 39 33 or visit www.southendcarers.co.uk All services provided by Southend Carers are completely free and 100% confidential.

Local Community The Art Ministry
T
he Art Ministry is a charity running weekly arts and crafts groups and clubs for a wide variety of people from Essex. They focus on people who are most likely to benefit from the opportunity that being involved in creative activity provides for making friends, boosting self confidence and improving self esteem. They run arts and crafts groups and clubs for children and for adults with learning difficulties, adults with physical disabilities, partially sighted and blind adults and adults with mental health problems. They complement these core activities with a group who work with fabrics to produce items for public display, a general public art club, sessions at a nursing home, and sessions for young carers. They also run community art

projects and take as many opportunities as they can to exhibit works. The Art Ministry was founded in 1992. In 2004 The Art Ministry became a registered charity governed by a board of trustees according to a declaration of trust. The only employees are the 5 part time session leaders, and so they rely on about 35 volunteers, including 6 trustees, to run The Art Ministry. The students pay a nominal fee for each session that they attend. These fees go some way to meeting The Art Ministry’s costs, but the majority of their funding comes in the form of grants that they have applied for and money that they have raised themselves. For more information on how to become involved as a volunteer ir how to donate visit the website at www.theartministry.org.uk
