DIOR HAUTE JOAILLERIE The New Dior Rose Collection

F

ollowing the figurative rose unveiled in early 2021, this new Dior Rose high jewellery collection celebrates the full renovation of the hôtel particulier at 30 Avenue Montaigne. The House’s historic home, which will be reborn with an added rooftop garden and an exhibition gallery, inspired Victoire de Castellane, the Artistic Director of Dior Joaillerie for over 20 years, to create a “Planet Dior”. In this as-yet unexplored galaxy, one hundred and sixteen jewels flourish; among them converse the romantic rose, the stained-glass rose, the futuristic rose and the abstract couture rose. In its romantic version, the rose convenes blue Myanmar sapphires on a parure composed of a necklace, earrings, a bracelet and a double ring. Set at an angle, an emerald-cut diamond illuminates the hand, while barely budding pink sapphire flowers with pistils sit on diamond sepals. As if worked in stained glass, the queen of flowers is clad in harmonious gradient hues, centered by a velvety Colombian emerald or crowned with a Mozambique ruby on a necklace with rubellite leaves. The purity of baguette-cut diamonds and the reliefs

10

of rose-cut diamonds amplify transparencies, as do curved or pointed petals. Rich in surprises, this new planet is also home to a futuristic rose. It conjures the vivacity of a Zambian emeralds in a green shot through with yellow, which blossom on a necklace, ring and bracelet. Underscored by lacquered claws and a rose gold setting, opals unleash their fire on a rose, creating a pixilated effect. Positioned slightly off-centre, golden South Sea pearls form the radiant pistils of a stylized flower. Graphic petals cluster around a heart of pink spinel or tsavorite garnet, stones chosen for their complementary hues. The abstract narrative that entered the House’s lexicon for its 20th anniversary continues in the form of a more symbolic evocation. Enhanced by oval or cushion cuts, Sri Lankan sapphires reveal a sea of blues with subtle violet undertones, on pendants or medallion chokers. Playing with different setting heights, pear-cut rubies and yellow diamonds dazzle on necklaces and earrings. Featured on the backs of certain stones, a gold mesh punctuated with diamonds might reveal a secret mechanism, like a hidden treasure. At the heart of the Dior story, a couture theme also emerges in this precious galaxy. Deceptively classic parures draw on traditional jewellery-making savoir-faire to answer contemporary desires, such as on this necklace, its asymmetry highlighted by a kitecut diamond, or rings and earrings also punctuated with “kite” diamonds. With irregular volumes that telescope into abstract geometry, emeralds, rubies, pink sapphires and diamonds form little wild shrubs scattered here and there to complete this new galaxy sprung from a Gem Dior flowerbed. AUDEMARS PIGUET ROYAL OAK

DOUBLE BALANCE WHEEL OPENWORKED PAVED WITH DIAMONDS

A

udemars Piguet is the oldest fine watchmaking manufacturer still in the hands of its founding families (Audemars and Piguet). Based in Le Brassus since 1875, the company has nurtured generations of talented craftspeople who have continuously developed new skills and techniques, broadening their savoir-faire to set rule-breaking trends. The Swiss Haute Horlogerie manufacturer presents a new 18-carat pink gold Royal Oak Double Balance Wheel Openworked timepiece set with 436 baguette-cut diamonds. Full of contrasts, this 41 mm iteration complements the elegant model in white gold released in 2020. The diamonds’ purity and shimmering effect create interesting plays of light and illuminate the cutting-edge double balance wheel mechanism visible on both sides of the watch. The radiance and elegance of this distinctive timepiece marrying Haute Horlogerie and Haute Joaillerie will attract attention from a distance. The Royal Oak Double Balance Wheel Openworked model will be launched in Italy before being available globally from October 2021. Uniting 18-carat pink gold with 436 baguette-cut diamonds, this new Royal Oak Double Balance Wheel Openworked model offers a glittering and harmonious contrast. THE ART OF GEMSETTING The 436 baguette-cut diamonds adorning the case, bracelet and bezel of the new Royal Oak Double Balance Wheel Open12

worked have been carefully selected to respond to the Manufacture’s highest criteria in terms of clarity, cut and colour. The diamonds have been individually cut and polished to reach clear and sharp angles before being invisibly set by hand. Tiny grooves are delicately cut in each stone. The baguette-cut diamonds are then snapped into a hidden rail mounted in the gold case as well as in the bracelet’s links and connecting studs, giving the impression that they are holding on their own. Pushing meticulousness, a step further, the gemsetting continues all the way down to the folding clasp, reflecting light, while creating a pure scintillating effect. The glittering case and bracelet illuminate the openworked mechanism, whose rhodium-toned hues harmoniously echo the grey shades of the inner bezel and reflecting diamonds. To add a subtle hint of colour, the hour-markers are adorned with 11 pink gold-toned baguette-cut sapphires, around which rotate the 18-carat pink gold Royal Oak hands. Visible through the sapphire caseback, the 22-carat pink gold double balance wheel pushes the contrast further for a refined touch down to the last detail. PATENTED INNOVATION MEETS ANCESTRAL CRAFTSMANSHIP The diamond-set pink gold bezel offers a scintillating frame to Calibre 3132, equipped with a double balance wheel mechanism. This patented innovation, released by Audemars Piguet in 2016, improves the watch’s precision and stability.

By incorporating two balance wheels and two hairsprings assembled on the same axis, the system oscillates in perfect synchrony. Visible on both sides of the case, the double balance wheel confers a rare glimpse at the watch’s beating heart.

end design and working backwards. Cut too little in the wrong place and it looks wrong. Cut too much and the movement’s functionality is compromised. Solving the puzzle demands horological mastery and profound knowledge of materials and finishing techniques.

In addition, the openworked bridges reveal part of the gear train on the dial and caseback sides. An Audemars Piguet speciality since the 1930s, openworking is an art balancing aesthetic and function. Highly trained experts create the movement by starting with the

SHANYAN KODER:

BEAUTY IN ART FORM The Art Expert How did your upbringing around art translate into a career? My upbringing had everything to do with my love for fine art. My family fostered it, instilled my passion in fine art. I grew up breathing art. Our life revolved around a combination of fine art, ballet, opera and classical music. Whilst my father is predominantly known as a successful global entrepreneur and businessman, he studied Music as an undergraduate and is also a professional concert pianist by training. So we have always shared a passion in the arts together. Even today, we speak almost daily about something that has struck us as interesting in the arts, be it fine art, or the performing arts, theatre, opera, dance, or music. I suppose it was only natural that I found my career in the art world. You have worked for prestigious institutions, tell us more about these experiences? Having grown up in a family of collectors, I suppose it was only natural for me to want to pursue a career in the art world. I took a few stepping stones along the way 18

Follow the Leader before finally arriving into the business of art. I graduated with a law degree from Cambridge University, and had the pleasure of working at both Goldman Sachs and Sotheby’s, spending time across New York, London and Hong Kong. Whilst completely different, both of these institutions provided fascinating and invaluable experiences for me. I learnt much about the finance and business worlds at Goldman Sachs, it was fast paced, intense and exciting. After several years, as I took a more prominent role in representing my family’s art collection, I decided to pursue my passion in fine art. I joined Sotheby’s on New Bond Street in Mayfair, London and stepped into the art world. Sotheby’s was an incredible experience as it allowed me to fully immerse in the exclusive world of auction houses. At the time, apart from my boss, Patti Wong, the Chairwoman of Asia, I was the only Chinese speaking employee in the company. So I had the pleasure of bidding for every telephone bidder from Asia who required translation, be it for a Mouton-Rothschild wine collection, to a Ron Arad design table, to paintings by Monet, Miro, Picasso, Warhol or Lichtenstein. I have very fond memories of all these experiences, all of which helped lay the foundation for my career in the business of art. Ultimately I set up my own private art advisory business, Shanyan Koder Fine Art. These experiences were also instrumental in the setup of my Chinese contemporary art business HUA, a platform celebrating a combination of my Chinese heritage and my passion for contemporary art. What does Art mean to you in today’s world? It’s an interesting question, as Art carries very different meanings for

each and every individual. For me, Art is and has always been a way of life, a guiding passion that has informed my senses for as long as I can remember. It was my love for art that sparked the beginning of my Artist-Muse relationship with Andrea Buccellati of the exclusive, world-renowned, jewellery label, Buccellati. I became his Muse eight years ago. He wrote about me as his Muse, “When she speaks of her love for art, her appreciation twinkles into a beaming spotlight, illuminating the space around her.” (Buccellati website, Muses page) I connect with Art on a spiritual, emotional level. Art is spiritually soothing for me, it has always comforted me at a time of need. As an artist myself, colours have always spoken to me, especially the relationship of colour created by the softer shades. Pastels in particular speak loudly to me. The balance of colours in a composition can speak volumes. One can never underestimate the power in the relationship between colour and composition, such as those in a magnificent Rothko, or in an Abstraktes Bild by Richter. When I appreciate art it fuels my soul, and helps me find resolution on a deeper, emotional level.

Who are your favorite artists? I have a deep spiritual and emotional connection with most of the artists in my family’s collection and my own collection. When I was a child, my family collection started off purely in the Impressionist period - we collected works by Renoir, Pissarro, Monet, Degas. As a ballerina myself, I grew up particularly drawn to Degas as a painter and a sculptor. I particularly loved his pastel works on paper of ballet dancers. I also the raw elegance of his bronze sculptures.

Art is also, for many, now tied into investment. How does that factor into your outlook? Of course, the value of art is an important factor when looking at purchase price. Like all purchases of significant value, one certainly does not want to overpay. Art is also unique, there is only one original art work, unless you are looking at prints, where there are a limited edition number. The uniqueness of each work makes value very interesting, as it can become subjective. 19

Follow the Leader We then moved on to collecting the Post-Impressionists and Modern masters - Chagall, Matisse, Van Gogh, Picasso. As I became more prominent in representing the family collection we continued to move on through the art movements. We added the Surrealists - Dali, Magritte. We added some prominent Chinese modern masters, Chen Yifei, Sanyu. And now, we have moved further into collecting Contemporary Masters such as Warhol and Basquiat. I love how my family collection continues to evolve, it makes it always so interesting and dynamic. All of these artists have a special place in my heart. What is your favorite piece(s) of your collection? It makes sense thinking about it now, that my own private collection, which is more a mixture of emerging and established contemporary artists, follows a more classical aesthetic . I collect across the art practices ranging from paintings, sculpture and installation, abstract and figurative, but each work I own carries a sense of the classical, a touch of romance. If you look at the art in my collection I think you would see elements of history, you will see hints of religious faith, you will see celebrations of the beauty of the human figure, the beauty of life , the beauty of death. My favourite piece from my collection has to be my Damien Hirst Butterfly painting that hangs in my London residence. It is from his Kaleidescope Butterfly series, and is made entirely out of real butterfly wings. The wings are arranged in such a way that is reminiscent of a stained glass window in a cathedral or church. It is no surprise that it is titled Eden, given the biblical references of the composition and colours. It is an absolute delight to view the painting; the display of co20

lours by the natural beauty of the butterfly wings is a celebration of Mother Nature and the beauty of natural science and natural history itself. Some of the butterfly wings, particularly those of the Papilio Ulysses, are irridescent and create a sense of luminescene across the entire work. I love how the painting is subtle yet powerful reminder of the beauty of life, and the beauty of death. Butterflies have a very short life, they are beautiful in life as in death. For me it is a constant reminder telling me to always cherish the present, to appreciate life, to live my life, not to take anything for granted. It teaches me also that even in death, things are beautiful, so whilst life is so short, one should accept and embrace death when it is our time. What are your thoughts on the contemporary/modern art scene? I am an avid collector of contemporary art as well as modern art. (The Modern art and Contemporary art scenes however are completely different, so just to clarify) I have always enjoyed and appreciated Modern art as a child, growing up and collecting works by the modern masters such as Matisse and Picasso. Then we continued into the Modern surrealists, Dali and Magritte. I remember bidding for a late work on canvas by Miro at a Sotheby’s auction in the late 2000s. The prices of these works have always commanded attention. The institutional museum shows across the biggest cities in the world continue to elevate the value of the artists. Glamorous evening sales, beautiful exhibitions at the auction houses, worldwide tours of the highlighted artworks. The prices have continued to rise for these masters, as have the appetite for owning these works. Whilst there

Follow the Leader have been some explosive sales, such as Le Garcon a la Pipe by Picasso in the early 2000s, I would say modern art in general holds its value consistently and steadily. The Contemporary art scene is a completely kettle of fish. It’s a very exciting space indeed - dynamic and ever-changing. Prices of living artists can easily sky rocket and then just as quickly, they can come down again from its highs. Of course, the “mainstream” contemporary art masters will always command a certain value. Warhol, Lichtenstein, Basquiat, Hockney, amongst many others in the same league. Many other contemporary artists still fluctuate in value as the world of collectors and art investors move in and out of different aesthetic and styles. I generalize, of course. It’s a very exciting space indeed - dynamic and ever-changing. It is such an important time now to watch this space, as the art world develops together with the ever-evolving digital and technology age, and the emergence of NFTs. I think its wonderful to see how collectors and investors alike evolve in sync, almost like a dance, with the new technologies of the contemporary art creations. Any emerging artist(s) to watch for? I am very fortunate to have built some special friendships with many of the contemporary artists that I collect. To name but a few, Fredrikson Stallard (Patrik Fredrikson and Ian Stallard) Philip Colbert, and his wife Charlotte Colbert Massimo Agnostinelli Zhuang Hong Yi Jacky Tsai

What is your specialty as in your forte? Which medium do you prefer to work on? If I was to allow the artist in me to speak, I will always use Pastel on Paper as my preferred medium. I love the texture of the pastel, I love to rub and mix the colours into the particular shade that I want with my fingertips. It is a soft medium, very delicate and feminine. For young novice collector who would like to start from somewhere, could you give us a few tips on how to curate the perfect collection? I will share three pieces of advice I learnt from the three most important figures in my art collecting life. My father always said to me. Don’t get carried away chasing a work of art. My husband always said to me. Buy what you love. My art teacher always said. Trust your instincts Can you share with us a few striking memories as: an art collector and a museum/gallery curator? You launched a fine art boutique consultancy, tell us more about that experience… I suppose it was only natural for me in my career path that I opened my own fine art advisory. My business started off as, and continues to be, extremely exclusive, very bespoke. I advise a small handful of high net worth clients, mostly out of Asia. I am fortunate to have had the pleasure of advising my clients for many years now, and it is something I appreciate and am grateful for. What do you envision for the market of Art in the upcoming years? How do you go about curating your own collection?

Cydne Jasmin Colby 21

The Successful Woman You evolve in an international area; how does that shape you as a woman?

A disruption, such as the pandemic, is often a great source of creativity for artists - to your opinion, how will it play out in future creations? This is incredibly interesting, as we have seen such an explosion of creativity since the start of the Pandemic. The lockdown has, in many ways, been instrumental to many artists I know in giving them the time and space to pause, reflect and create new body of works. You have been vocal about being a key player in the digitalization of art dealing, do you foresee an end of galleries or physical auctions in profit of online events? The digitalization of art dealing has certainly helped art dealers and art 22

collectors alike to buy and sell art in a more efficient manner, but I do not foresee an end of galleries or physical auctions at all. Despite the NFT movement we are witnessing now, the vast majority of art is and will continue to be physical art, be it works on paper, metal, canvas, sculpture, installation. We are physical beings, and whilst we do live in a digital world, where art can be digitalized into virtual or even artificial intelligence form, I still believe art will always exist in the physical form, and we as a society will always need and in fact continue to thrive in the presence of physical art, and with that, comes with the continued existence of art galleries and museums alike.

I am very fortunate to have lived a very global life from a young age. Born and raised in Hong Kong, I attended Cambridge University in the UK, after which I had the pleasure of living and spending significant amounts of time in Hong Kong, London, New York, Los Angeles, Sydney, Paris, Rome… but to name a few cities. The pandemic has added The Bahamas to the list, and more recently, Miami. Such life experiences with such global exposure have been transformational in the way in which I interact with and view the world. The world is actually a small place and we are all connected in one way or another, there is often just one or two degrees of separation from one person to the next. As a woman evolving within the international arena; I suppose my life experiences has helped me with the benefit of exposure, the world has never really overwhelmed me, it excites me. As a woman in the arts, I have always embraced my femininity, and in doing so I feel empowered. As a woman of my ethnicity, I am proud of my Chinese heritage, and that is what triggered me over ten years ago to found my contemporary Chinese art platform HUA. It is a celebration of emerging contemporary Chinese artists and gives them a digital platform to showcase their work. I am thankful for the wealth of knowledge and exposure my life experiences have given me. And I welcome more of it!

Follow the Leader As a mother and a very busy women, how do you manage your life to balance it all? Balance is important. I have always believed that achieving a sense of inner peace is key in managing all the conflicting demands of daily life. This applies to all aspects of life, in business, in the family home, as well as physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. I don’t think work life and family life have to be mutually exclusive. I suppose I am fortunate that my line of business also gives me great pleasure and a sense of internal balance. That is the benefit of working in art, I am blessed to look at beautiful works of art every day. I greatly enjoy my work, when I look at works of art for my clients or for one of my many art projects, I feel stimulated, mentally and spiritually invigorated. I love being a wife to my wonderful husband and I adore being a mother to our three beautiful daughters. I absolutely love motherhood. I love being involved in all the daily intricacies of raising my girls. Motherhood isn’t easy, not by any stretch of the imagination, but I suppose once you achieve that spiritual balance, nothing becomes overwhelming. Achieving a sense of spiritual balance is the essence of my daily life. I suppose I have always been a bit of a romantic in the way I view life, I love to find the poetry and the beauty in everything that I do. One thing I love to do is to wake up early every morning, be-

fore my babies or my husband, to watch the beautiful colours of the morning sunrise. Drinking in the shades of peach, orange, and pinks that make the sky glow…. I suppose that recharges my soul and refuels me spiritually for the day to come. Classical music plays a significant role in my life. I play the piano daily, it is a family tradition. My grandfather played, my father plays, now my daughters also play. For me I enjoy playing pieces from the Romantic period, Chopin, Lizst, Brahms, and some Beethoven, I find their music gives me a sense of inner peace and serenity. If I had the opportunity, I will always attend a virtuoso piano recital at the Cadogan Hall, at Wigmore Hall, or if in New York, at Carnegie Hall. I welcome any opportunity to visit the Ballet, or to enjoy a Puccini Opera.

Giving back must be an important value to instill as a mother, what prompted you to start? Whilst I am known predominantly as an art world entrepreneur, having founded several art businesses over the last twenty years, I have over the last two decades supported many other causes close to my heart, some of which I have worked closely with over the years as Art Ambassador. Sadly, I had the misfortune of having suffered the loss of three unborn babies during pregnancy. The grief, the spiritual, physical and mental impact, that comes with this loss is beyond words, unspeakable. Each time, I was distraught with grief, sadness, a sense of complete helplessness. But with time, I eventually found the strength to cope with my loss, and perhaps I even grew stronger from it. I found my own spiritual formula that helped heal my soul and being. During this healing process, I found that the causes of preterm labour and premature birth continues to be scientifically unexplained, and premature birth is still today’s highest cause of death in babies. I also found that as a subject matter, dealing with loss continues to be a largely unspoken topic. As a result of this, one of the charities I have supported over the years as Art Ambassador, hosting a number of Art fundraising soirees in their benefit, is Borne, a leading scientific research foundation in the field of preterm labour and premature birth. 23

Follow the Leader It was for the benefit of this charity that I hosted a number of art dinners, where I felt I could combine my passion in fine art with my passion to support philanthropy causes close to my heart also. I have served on the Advisory Council or on the Board of several international art institutions globally, such as the Serpentine Galleries, the women-only board of the New Museum of New York, and most recently Eye of the Collector, a new boutique art fair in London. One of the contemporary art galleries of which I am a Board Member, Unit London, kindly offered me their gallery space for my philanthropic art dinners in the benefit of Borne. I had the pleasure of hosting several meaningful fundraising dinners, where patrons enjoyed the striking art exhibitions shown by one of the most exciting contemporary art galleries in London, and at the same time were offered an opportunity to support a meaningful charity close to my heart. Mental health is another area in which I am a passionate advocate. As a mother of three young daughters and stepmother of three young-adult sons, growing up in an ever-evolving digital age, understanding and navigating child and teenage mental health is one of my greatest priorities as a parent. I have witnessed teenagers close to my heart lose their way to insecurities, addiction and succumb to the many damaging effects of contemporary society today. As a young mother myself, I came up with my own philosophy, “Happy children are successful children”, and to this end I am determined to find a way to help guide children and young adults through life, with a focus on health, positivity, confidence, and resilience. 24

Following the loss of my babies during pregnancy I continued to witness so many people across the world, regardless of geography or demographic, suffer in silence, or cope with their issues in silence. There are many factors, including culture, society, religion, pride, family, peer pressure, which stops one from opening up about their issues. During the pandemic, living in lockdown brought to light many more mental health issues that need to be addressed. And this was the trigger for me. Mental health affects anyone, regardless of age, gender, status or race. Mental health issues are unique to each and every person. Helping those people who struggle with mental health issues, and particularly those who suffer alone and in silence, find their own formula, has become a passion for me. To this end, in partnership with my ex-military co-founder Richard Bassett, and in collaboration with stars Jason Carl Fox and Dr Emily MacDonagh amongst others, I am thrilled to announce the recent launch of our latest project, Mentor360 - an App promoting Mental Fitness. The App launched in early September, and our mission is to improve mental fitness, enhance self awareness and lead the user to “finding your formula”. Mentor360 promises to be your Pocket Mentor, a safe space for all, free from judgement and discrimination, and focuses on mental fitness, holistic wellbeing, mindfulness and performance. Our content has been composed by leading psychologists and health care professionals. We are also excited to be working with Tommy Mallet, Malin Anderson, and Alex Waller amongst many others as our Mentors. Since the App has been available in the App store in September, the last

few weeks has seen us gain incredible momentum, and we have very exciting plans on where to take this forward. Watch this space. As a philanthropist, how would you like to see your work in this field developing in future? I would love the opportunity to continue to combine my knowledge and experience in the art world with philanthropic projects that carry significant meaning for me. I look forward to collaborative projects between the art world, the luxury world, and the performing arts world. My passion is in fine art, also in dance and in music. If there is an opportunity to create a project with all three aspects, and tie it to a good meaningful cause, that would be a dream come true. The possibilities are endless and I am excited to explore what the future may hold. You have collaborated with jewelry and fashion brands, how did these collaborations come about? It’s all rather serendipitous. I have been very fortunate to have been selected as a Muse for one of the worlds most celebrated fine jewellery label, Buccellati. Originally founded in Italy by the Buccellati family, Andrea Buccellati himself asked me to formally partner with the label as their Muse almost 8 years ago, and I am ever so grateful to have been the inspiration for his Romanza collection, Buccellati’s engagement ring collection. Together with his daughter, Lucrezia Buccellati, heiress to the business, with myself as Muse and Lucrezia as jewellery designer and the creator of the Romanza collection, we modelled the Romanza the collection together, and hosted the launch of the collection in their flagship store in Mayfair London back in 2014. It was an incredibly

special experience, Lucrezia was a delight to work with, and the collection itself was very successful. A few years ago I had the pleasure to collaborate as Muse for a world-renowned interiors artist, the one and only Sera of London. She had created a new Bohemian vintage fashion label, Sestra Moja. It was a very special project with a wonderful, free-spirited, generous soul, and I loved wearing all the pieces in her collection. Even today, I am very fortunate that I can continue to enjoy my work as a Muse to a number of internationally acclaimed artists and creatives in the industry. It is a both a pleasure and an honour. All of these experiences in jewellery, fashion, and art of course, have led me to be co-founder of a luxury digital showcase App, Global Showcases. The App, about to be launched in New York early next year, provides an invitation-only digital experience for discerning clients who wish to acquire the world’s most exclusive pieces. What are your plans and what is coming next for Shanyan Koder? Every year I wonder to myself, perhaps this year I will slow down a little. And every year I must admit that I surprise myself as to how much I didn’t slow down. In fact, I often wonder how I manage to achieve quite the opposite. The last 18 months, the pandemic, however, has certainly given me the time and space to me pause and reflect. I am faithful, I am spiritual, I believe in fate and destiny. I believe everything happens for a reason, and that God has a plan for me. So yes, I do have plans, in art, in philanthropy, in family life, but let’s see where the wind takes me. 25

Lamborghini Countach LPI 800-4 Visionary design meets future technology A design and technology benchmark for modern super sports cars, reimagined for a new era. Lamborghini unveils the Countach LPI 800-4: a futuristic limited edition paying homage to the Countach’s iconic status as a revolutionary design and technology rule-breaker and recreated for the 21st century. Its puristic lines are immediately recognizable from the Countach legacy: the patriarch of modern super sports cars and Lamborghini design.

With its aspirated V12 engine combined with Lamborghini’s hybrid supercapacitor technology, the Countach LPI 800-4 retains the inimitable V12 experience and sound from its Longitudinale Posteriore (LP) mounted powerplant combined with the hybrid (I) technology developed for the Sián. Delivering 814 cv as maximum combined power (rounded at 800 in the name) from its aspirated powerplant (780 cv) and electric motor (34 cv) to its permanent four-wheel drive transmission, the LPI 800-4 produces peak Lamborghini performance of 0-100 km/h acceleration in just 2.8 seconds, a 0-200 km/h in 8.6 seconds and a top speed of 355 km/h.

Countach – the patriarch of modern super sports car design The Lamborghini Countach LPI 800-4 is instantly recognizable as the elevated descendant of Countach generations: testament to the lasting impact of the original Countach design that became the poster car of the 1980s and a symbol of automotive and lifestyle ultra-cool. The Countach moniker – a fitting expression of surprise and wonder in Piedmontese dialect and pronounced ‘Coon-tach’ – is one of very few Lamborghini model names not connected to bulls. “The first Countach has been present in our Centro Stile as a model for some years now”, explains Mitja Borkert, Head of Centro Stile. 28

‘Whenever I look at it, it gives me goose bumps and it serves as the perfect reminder for me and the entire design team to design every future Lamborghini in a visionary and futuristic way. This is an unnegotiable part of our DNA, the essence if you so will. The first Countach shaped the Lamborghini design DNA like no other car; the new Countach translates that unconventional and edgy character into the future.” The Countach’s distinctive silhouette with the essential line running from front to rear, sharp angles and lines and idiosyncratic wedge shape, innovated modern super sports design as well as future Lamborghini models. The Countach LPI 800-4 develops the characteristic lines of the Countach’s five models over nearly 20 years, concentrated into the purest realization of iconic automotive design. The final outline is pure and uncluttered, with references to the first LP 500 and LP 400 production version. Giving the LPI 800-4 a distinctive Countach face, inspiration was taken from the Quattrovalvole edition in the assertive lines of the front bonnet with long, low rectangular grilleand headlights, as well as in the wheel arches with their hexagonal theme. The sharp inclination of the greenhouse adopts the straight lines redolent of the original Countach, adjoining the powerful, clean front-to-rear line. There is no fixed rear wing outside the pure lines, and the airscoops are integrated fluidly in the strong shoulders of the car, embellished with the distinctive Countach slatted ‘gills’. The iconic and aerodynamically powerful NACA air intakes cut into the side and doors of the Countach LPI 800-4 while the distinctive Periscopio lines running through the roof to the rear of the car, particularly distinctive if viewed from above, appear to float towards the rear of the car. The rear of the Countach LPI 800-4 is immediately recognizable from its distinctive inverted wedge shape, with the rear bumper featuring a lower, sleeker line, and the ‘hexagonita’ design shaping the three-unit rear light clusters. The LPI 800-4 sports the four-strong exhaust tail pipes of the Countach family, connected within the carbon fiber rear diffuser. Access for driver and passenger is of course via the infamous scissor doors, first introduced on the Countach and that have become a Lamborghini V12 signature.

contemporary palette offers modern paintings, mostly metallic colours, such as Viola Pasifae or Blu Uranus. An 8,4” HDMI centre touchscreen unique to the LPI 800-4 manages car controls including Connectivity and Apple CarPlay. It also includes a unique button entitled ‘Stile’ (Design): pressed, it explains the Countach design philosophy to its privileged audience. Produced in a run of 112 units, the number denotes the ‘LP 112’ internal project name used during the original Lamborghini Countach’s development. The Countach LPI 800-4 will be delivered from first quarter 2022 to owners worldwide, privileged to drive a piece of automotive history reimagined for the future By Narges Raiss

Moveable air vents produced by the state-of-the-art 3D printing technology, and a photochromatic roof - changing from solid to transparent at the push of a button – act as a reminder that this car, despite its historic inspiration, is a future automotive screensaver for the 21st century. Owners of the exclusive limited edition Countach LPI 800-4 can choose from a range of heritage exterior paint options, mostly in solid colours, such as the iconic Impact White, Giallo Countach and Verde Medio. ASTON MARTIN VALKYRIE SPIDER

The Formula One® experience on the road

T

he New Valkyrie Spider is a thrilling next step in the progression of the Aston Martin Valkyrie bloodline and is the fastest, most extreme open top Aston Martin to date. Showcasing a combination of F1® inspired aerodynamics and performance combined with open roof driving epitomises true Formula One® car experience, on the road. The removable roof panel offers ultimate sensory immersion for driver and passenger alike. The new Valkyrie Spider, unveiled at Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, promises an even more intense experience. One shaped by the unbeatable sensory stimulus that comes with roof-off driving in one of the

34

world’s most extreme hypercars. One that delivers the most comparable experience to that of an F1® car, not limited to the track. The pursuit of open-top luxury comes with the challenge of ensuring the core experience remains true to Aston Martin and Adrian Newey’s exacting performance objectives for the original Aston Martin Valkyrie programme. As these positioned Valkyrie at the very cutting-edge of hypercar design and engineering it means the Valkyire Spider has benefitted from unique engineering solutions born from the combined talents of Aston Martin and Red Bull Advanced Technologies (RBAT).

While the Aston Martin Valkyrie’s unique 1155PS hybrid V12 powertrain remains unchanged, the Valkyrie Spider has received revisions to its carbon fibre structure, plus precise recalibration of both the active aerodynamic and active chassis systems. All with an eye to maintaining optimal Valkyrie performance when driven in a roof-off condition. Key to Valkyrie Spider’s unprecedented performance is the ultra-lightweight construction and high downforce aerodynamics package. The upper body surfaces of the teardrop-shaped cockpit and lower tub contours follow the envelope of space available between the huge full-length Venturi tunnels that run either side of the cockpit floor. Drawing huge quantities of air beneath the car to feed the rear diffuser, these tunnels are the key to generating Aston Martin Valkyrie Spider’s extraordinary 35

levels of downforce - >1400kg at 240km/h in track mode - while keeping the upper body surfaces free from additional aerodynamic devices that would spoil the purity of the open-top styling. By following the same exacting Valkyrie ethos, and with just a marginal weight difference to the Coupe, Valkyrie Spider remains a quintessential package of efficient and lightweight solutions. Capable of achieving a vMAX of 330km/h+ with the roof removed (350km/ h+ with roof on), it is the fastest and most extreme open-top, road-legal Aston Martin ever built. Delivering LMP1 levels of performance, Valkyrie Spider is simulated to set impressive lap times, not normally achievable in a road-going car. Aston Martin Chief Executive Officer, Tobias Moers said: “The Aston Martin Valkyrie is the product of incredible innovation and technology, but above all it has always been about emotion. With the Valkyrie Spider we are taking that passion and emotion to the next level. The driving experience promises to be truly sensational. The sound of that 6.5-litre V12 engine revving to over 11,000rpm with the roof removed is something I cannot wait to hear.”

Red Bull Racing’s Chief Technical Officer, Adrian Newey said: “Right from the very beginning of the Aston Martin Valkyrie project we were driven by exacting targets that went way beyond any previous road car and the Valkyrie Spider brings that same ethos to the open cockpit hypercar category. What you see is a simple removable roof panel, but the challenge of remaining true to the Valkyrie concept was anything but. Maintaining aerodynamic performance with the roof removed was of paramount importance, likewise keeping any unavoidable weight gains to an absolute minimum whilst maximising enjoyment for the driver.” Following unprecedented demand, the 85 examples of the Valkyrie Spider are oversubscribed, and allocations will begin shortly, available in both left and righthand drive derivatives, with first deliveries scheduled for H2 2022. The refined interiors are the perfect setting for a special occasion amongst family or friends, with five en-suite cabins to accommodate up to 10 guests overnight, all looked after by six professional crewmen.

The interiors Miami-based design studio Giuseppina Arena have worked in tandem with Dynamiq to create a haven upon the water: A colour palette of cream and gold creates warm and welcoming social areas that are contrasted by crisp white furnishings and accents in navy blue. The art deco styling has been given a contemporary update with Fendi furniture and custom carpets by OT adding golden hues and details in mother of pearl. All decks have a ceiling height of 2.2m/7.3ft to create a cavernous environment within. Other benefits include a fireplace in the main salon and a unique atomiser system that features the home perfume collection ‘Bianco di Carrara’ from Ferragamo to add a subtle scent to the living areas on board.

The exteriors The all-aluminium superyacht is a product of exterior stylists Dobroserdov Design, who gave her an elegant and mysterious appearance while setting her apart from the crowd with a metallic gold hull contrasted by a superstructure in silvery white. The reverse bow is a powerful and appealing modern look, while having the practical function of aiding performance to put her at the top of her class. From the moment guests step aboard they are surrounded by luxuries: The Deep swim platform and sweeping central stairway beckon up to the main deck aft, where the 10-person aft pool and sun-drenched lounge tempt guests to sit a moment and admire the sweeping view. 40

THE OWO RESIDENCES BY RAFFLES Redefining the luxury real estate market, a prime property in the heart of London.

L

ondon as a destination has always been synonymous with luxury and lifestyle. The city has attracted investments from overseas investors over decades. In recent times, the market has been put to the test by several large-scale events such as the Covid-19 pandemic and Brexit, yet despite this, the prime London real estate market has shown great buoyancy and is charting a positive recovery trajectory.

Prices in prime central London grew by 0.3% in the year to May as published in Knight Frank’s ‘Prime Central London Sales Report May 2021’, marking the first rise in the past five years, further demonstrating that the UK property market has stabilised and started to grow again, even whilst travel is largely restricted for overseas buyers.

48

In the recently published ‘The London Report 2021’ by Knight Frank, London has been coined as the world’s most innovative city and has also topped the chart for cross-border investment in 2020. Owing to a robust real estate market, strong infrastructure, multiple cultural attractions, attractive lifestyle (shopping, dining) and ample educational institutions, Central London has been a key target location for Middle Eastern buyers. The property firm’s data highlights that 16% of overseas sales in the first three months of 2021 were to buyers from the Middle East, which is the highest proportion of Middle Eastern interest in the UK since the outbreak of Covid-19. Currently buyers from the GCC are ranked third most prominent in the UK, only surpassed by buyers from Asia (18%) and Europe (59%).

In the wake of the pandemic, overseas buyers are increasingly seeking turnkey projects to invest in, which supports their physical and mental wellbeing as well as meeting the practical needs of everyday life. The latest addition to the turnkey luxury property market in London is The OWO Residences by Raffles, Europe’s first Raffles branded residences. Sales launched just last month to high acclaim with interest from regional as well as overseas investors. Offering 85 distinct homes symbolising opulence and power within an impressive Grade II* listed building, The OWO Residences redefine luxury at every step. Having undergone a monumental and painstaking transformation over the last five years, the London landmark is set to complete in 2022 and will also comprise the capital’s first Raffles hotel with 125-rooms and suites, a collection of nine restaurants and bars, and an immersive spa. Charlie Walsh, Head of Residential Sales at The OWO, said, “The OWO Residences by Raffles in the heart of London represent an incomparable opportunity for buyers seeking something more than a traditional branded residence. This is a turnkey lifestyle within a new world-class culinary destination not yet experienced in the UK, set within a building of remarkable eminence. “ Situated at one of London’s most historically important and powerful addresses on Whitehall, The OWO’s grandeur is accentuated with ceiling heights in residences that reach up to 4.4m and full-length windows to match. The interior proportions reflect classic Edwardian architecture that has been adapted for modern living. The residences feature interiors created by design studio 1508 London with bespoke handcrafted kitchens from British brand Smallbone of Devizes, American brand Waterworks brass ironmongery and Italian Onyx marble. Many incorporate original heritage features such as oak panelling and mosaic flooring. The unwavering attention to detail in each residence demonstrates the years of craftmanship that have been applied to every aspect of the majestic building.

At the helm of The OWO project is the Hinduja Group, an international multi-billion turnover group founded in 1914 and passionately committed to the building since its acquisition in 2014. Gopichand P Hinduja, Co-Chairman, Hinduja Group, commented, “With the UK property market showing signs of a dramatic recovery after the past challenging 12 months, launching the sales of these extraordinary residences is a significant milestone for us as a family and for the project team at The OWO. It is one step closer to opening the storied building to the public for the first time where branded residences will sit alongside a flagship Raffles hotel. ZUHAIR MURAD HAUTE COUTURE A Venitian Affair

P

aris Haute Couture Week for Fall/Winter 2021-22 has made its return with some of the most renowned names that presented their most elevated and niche collections.

With couture outfits ready to adorn the fashion runway, the world of luxury fashion is ablaze by the return of physical presentation, while several A-listers sit front row to witness these intricate designs that have showcased craftsmanship at its finest. The long months of mask-wearing that followed the burst of the pandemic inspired Zuhair Murad to create a collection instilled with the spirit of the city where masks are quintessential: Venice. For this collection presented in a full-fledge fashion show, the couturier is reinventing the flamboyance of the Serenissima where subtle Oriental influences prevail. He pays tribute to the City of the Doges which, while fighting invasions and battling diseases never let go of its passion for luxury, arts and beauty, its best weapons against collapse. And in between calli and canals, churches and grandiose palaces that stand indifferent to the rising waters, unfolds the vision of a contemporary Venetian festival where the strings of Paganini’s 58

Passion for Fashion filtered by stained glass windows and Murano chandeliers, melted by glassmakers who hold all the secrets of alchemists. Vines and crystals, iridescent glass with unreal hues, “fourreau” night gowns draped with large transparent capes woven with the material that dreams are made of… Enchanted combinations of crystal garlands, long dresses of patrician hostesses, oriental princess kaftans thrown on revisited Renaissance outfits, crazed with chiffon: A festival of bare shoulders and curves revealed through daring slits and wise asymmetries. Capes and long gloves in embroidered tulle are inspired by the timeless codes of the Venetian Carnival. Velvet, chiffon, taffeta, faille and metallic organza reinterpret timeless classics. Silver lurex brings a modern note to a magnetic theme. The molten glass becomes embroidery. Patchwork, a staple of the Venetian spirit, is rendered in fascinating haute couture. Scoop necks, asymmetrical necklines, puffed and cap sleeves wrap the collection in an aura of luxury that evokes the festive resistance of a city whose talents, refinement and know-how will endlessly remain, the ultimate bulwark against adversity. THE ORIGINS OF VERSACE’S LA GRECA

V

ersace’s Fall-Winter 2021 Collection introduced a new signature pattern named La Greca. Its origins within the brand, however, go right back to 1988. Gianni and Donatella Versace grew up in Calabria, Southern Italy. Once occupied by the ancient Greeks, the surrounding land is scattered with ruins and artefacts - reminders of Calabria’s rich Magna Graecia history. It was through these artefacts that the siblings began their love 60

affair with Medusa, and it was through Medusa that they discovered another ancient Greek motif: the Greek Key. The Greek Key is a geometric pattern created from one, uninterrupted line and was historically used in ancient Greek temples, labyrinths, buildings and pottery – especially from the Geometric period. Symbolizing infinity and unity, it was first presented in a Versace collection in Fall-Winter 1988 and has remained a brand code ever since.

Passion for Fashion La Greca is Donatella Versace’s modern interpretation of the classic Greek Key. It became 3D, was blown up in scale and splashed with a range of punchy shades. The classic pattern received an injection of modern energy. La Greca feels like an immersive labyrinth that you could walk right into and perfectly encapsulates Versace’sability to draw from the past to create something for the future.

“We love and believe in La Greca so much that we’ve put it on everything, from bags to clothing and shoes to fashion jewelry. It is “Very Versace” and I’m sure that it will become a loved and iconic symbol of the house. It quickly became the protagonist of the Fall-Winter 2021 Collection and it’s here to stay as a new pillar of the brand.” - Donatella Versace By Tagwalk

PORTA LIGHTING COLLECTION BY JOSÉ MANUEL FERRERO

T

he iconic architecture of great vaulting and arches was the starting point when creating PORTA, a collection of lamps designed for AROMAS DEL CAMPO. These light fixtures suggest taking some time to reflect upon the environment and sense the calmness and serenity while recalling the interior of a large vault with a central skylight. Moving from the outside to the inside through large arched doors with all the ribs and inner structures of that architecture has been translated into a light fluted

70

glass casing. The rounded silhouette of the lamp and the fluted surface offer a moderate, harmonious sensation to contribute to a cozy atmosphere in just about any environment. The tactile differences in the materials, the fluted glass and metal, create a look that’s somewhere between industrial and contemporary, discrete yet impressive, bringing the design to life to create the perfect light. Special attention has been paid to the details, emphasizing the two slits at the bot-

tom of the casing; hence, the name. PORTA is all about the two parallel arches that give the light fixture its own identity. One of them is the connecting point for the metallic support that forms the various lighting systems that can be created which are ideal for home decor or even professional environments. Worth highlighting is the modular Chandelier that can be created by combining the different diameters to achieve a dramatic visual effect, full of small shades.

home speaker, whose soft cylindrical silhouette features a hidden touch interface that lights up when approached. Its seven speaker drivers with beam-forming technology offer a choice between powerful, room-filling sound and precise acoustic directivity for an immersive music experience. Berluti’s Venezia leather is wrapped around the wooden base for a refined touch, coordinating with the dark brown fabric of the speaker. Finally, two exceptional, made-to-order pieces for the home complete the lifestyle offer: the Beovision Harmony Berluti Edition television and the Beolab 90 Berluti Edition speaker. The intelligent, 8,200-watt speaker represents the most powerful sound experience Bang & Olufsen has ever created. Its aluminum base, covered with Venezia leather with a TDM Intenso patina, is a perfect match for the television, a remarkable combination of art and technology featuring an LG 4k-resolution OLED screen. When not in use, the television folds down into a sculptural shape with its panels partially covering the screen. When it is turned on, the panels fan out and elevate the screen to perfect viewing height. Exceptionally fine, perforated and patinated Venezia leather covers the speaker panels.

Berluti declares “Berluti and Bang & Olufsen are a perfect match, bringing together a common passion for excellence. Bang & Olufsen’s cutting-edge philosophy, technological innovation and state-of-the-art design run parallel to the Maison’s focus on craftsmanship and to its continually evolving lifestyle collection.” “For nearly a century, Bang & Olufsen has been pushing the boundaries of audio technology and the company continues to sit at the forefront of acoustic innovation. Together with Berluti, we are bringing the best of artisanship to the fore with our expertise in sound and design, and Berluti’s knowledge in leather craftsmanship to create a truly remarkable collection,” says Christoffer Poulsen, Senior Vice-President of Product Management & Brand Partnering at Bang & Olufsen. This exceptional collaboration is available in select Berluti and Bang & Olufsen stores and e-shops from 28 May 2021. The Beovision Harmony television and Beolab 90 speaker are available to order from 28 May and will be showcased in select Berluti and Bang & Olufsen stores.

CHIVAS XV BALMAIN GOLD EDITION

This extremely limited and individually numbered gold bottle is adorned with metallic armour and chains in a nod to Balmain’s signature runway pieces. Two legendary houses have joined forces for the Balmain x Chivas XV collaboration. Built on the authentic fusion of heritage, boldness and innovation, the two-bottle collection brings a modern twist to Scotch by blending the spirit of luxury French fashion with our luxury Scotch whisky.

96

CHIVAS XV Chivas XV brings together the best of Scotland and France by selectively finishing*our 15-year-old Chivas house blend in French cognac casks – a whisky made for the luxury French fashion brand Balmain.

Just like Balmain, Chivas has always adhered to the highest standards with neither house being afraid to push boundaries and break with outdated conventions. Those already familiar with the Balmain universe will note that this unique collaboration includes a signature motif of the house—the oversized golden chain. Whenever I’ve included that eye-catching adornment in my collections, it has served as a bold symbol of the defiant spirit of our rebellious and inclusive Balmain Army – a bold and audacious attitude that both Chivas and Balmain celebrate.
