AUDEMARS PIGUET UNVEILS A NEW BLACK CERAMIC VERSION OF ITS ROYAL OAK OFFSHORE MUSIC EDITION

Swiss Haute Horlogerie manufacturer Audemars Piguet is pleased to present a new variation of its Royal Oak Offshore Music Edition model, originally launched in 2022. A new black ceramic reference in 37 mm, featuring a Tapisserie dial that reproduces the motifs of an equaliser (or VU meter), is joining the first five models in the collection, which are available in various materials and diameters. Driven by the selfwinding hours, minutes and seconds movement, the Calibre 5909, this bold timepiece celebrates the creative synergy that the Manufacture has enjoyed with the music world for many years.

A TRIBUTE TO THE WORLD OF MUSIC

Since its establishment, Audemars Piguet has constantly built bridges with the music world, particularly through its pioneering role in the development of chiming watches. The Royal Oak Offshore collection has featured collaborations with various artists, drawing on their inspiration and inspiring them in turn.

The Royal Oak Offshore Music Edition line, launched in 2022, celebrates this long-standing relationship with a brand-new aesthetic: a Tapisserie dial reproducing the motifs of an equaliser, knurled-textured studs reminiscent of jack plugs and crown guards inspired by the fader on mixing consoles. Featuring a sapphire crystal curved along the 6 to 12 o’clock axis and enlarged bevels, these selfwinding hours, minutes and seconds models radiate a

colourful, pop-inspired style that is both bold and refined.

BLACK CERAMIC MEETS BRIGHT COLOURS

The 37 mm Royal Oak Offshore Music Edition model, launched this year, features a case, bezel and screw-locked crown, all crafted in black ceramic. Titanium elements bring contrast to the piece’s design, such as the studs reminiscent of the pattern on jack plugs, the fader-inspired crown guards and the strap’s pin buckle.

A material that is extremely hard and difficult to work with, ceramic goes through a painstaking finishing process to highlight its nuances and the complex shape of the Royal Oak Offshore case, in line with Audemars Piguet’s quality requirements. The

ceramic used contains Zirconium Oxide powder combined with a binding agent. It achieves its final uniform colour once it has been sintered at a temperature of over 1,000 °C. Each component is then pre-polished and pre-satin-brushed before being meticulously finished by hand to achieve the Manufacture’s trademark alternation of polished and satin-brushed surfaces.

The equaliser, made up of 10 different colours printed onto the Tapisserie motif, cut through the piece’s understated design. Dispensing with the date aperture, it lights up the dial while giving it a highly contemporary appearance. The dial is completed by the AP monogram in polished white gold at 12 o’clock, and by the 18-carat white gold hour-markers and hands enhanced with luminescent coating

12

for maximum visibility, notably in dark concert venues.

Ideal for slimmer wrists, this modern timepiece is teamed with an interchangeable black rubber strap decorated with a “Mosaic” motif that matches the colour of the dial. Three additional straps, in turquoise, yellow and green rubber, also decorated with the “Mosaic” motif, allow the wearer to change their style to suit their mood.

This new 37 mm variation is driven by the latest-generation selfwinding hours, minutes and seconds movement, Calibre 5909. The absence of a date allows the coloured pattern of the dial to shine through. Based on Calibre 5900, which made its debut at Audemars Piguet in 2022 on 37 mm Royal Oak references, this movement has the added advantage of being slimmer and providing a greater frequency than its predecessor, Calibre 3120. It also has a 60hour power reserve.

The titanium and sapphire crystal caseback, which shows off the hand-finishing that goes into the piece’s movement, is engraved with the words “Limited Edition of 250 Pieces”. The caseback displays iconic Haute Horlogerie decorations, such as Côtes de Genève, satin-brushing, circular graining, traits tirés and polished chamfers, as well as the collection’s dedicated oscillating weight made of 22-carat pink gold with a NAC coating.

JAEGER-LECOULTRE PRESENTS THE REVERSO ONE DUETTO JEWELLERY

A WATCHMAKING ICON MEETS

The first watch to feature a rectangular case that can be turned over to protect its dial, the Reverso became a must-have almost immediately on its launch in 1931. Although originally conceived for polo players, this watch became recognised as a design icon, appealing to men and women from many walks of life, who embraced the originality of its design and the refinement of its Art Deco lines. Less than a year after its creation, feminine models of the Reverso appeared, subtly revisiting the original aesthetic codes: the rectilinear geometry of the reversible case with its bevelled triangular lugs, horizontal gadroons, and the chic simplicity of the dial.

A new expression of the alliance between Fine Watchmaking and High Jewellery

This year, in keeping with the pioneering spirit of La Grande Maison, which has created watches for women since its early days, Jaeger-LeCoultre presents two new expressions of the Reverso One. Cased in pink gold, they illustrate the union of Fine Watchmaking and High Jewellery down to the smallest detail. Expressing the

Brilliant Bijoux
JEWELLERY EXCELLENCE

full potential of an icon that never ceases to inspire the watchmakers of La Grande Maison and the craftsmen of the Métiers Rares workshop, the case of the new Reverso One Duetto Jewellery is entirely set with diamonds. One model is complemented by a shiny black leather strap and the other by a pink gold bracelet entirely set with diamonds.

When the Duetto complication is adorned with pink gold and diamonds

In 1997, Jaeger-LeCoultre introduced the Reverso Duetto, featuring two back-to-back dials, each with a set of hands driven by a single movement but turning in opposite directions in order to display the same time correctly on both sides – a complex mechanism that represented a technical achievement for the Manufacture’s watchmakers. For the new Reverso One Duetto Jewellery models, the hand- wound Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 844 – entirely developed and produced within the Manufacture – now promises 50 hours of power reserve.

The new Reverso One Duetto Jewellery presents the back-to-back

dial concept in a new setting that is as rare as it is precious. With 335 grain-set diamonds that cover the entire case-back and wrap seamlessly around its curved sides to frame the dial, the case is unquestionably a piece of jewellery, emphasised by the inverted diamond set into the crown.

On the front, every detail of the silvered sunray dial with its guilloché decoration is delicately finished: the golden brackets in each corner, the applied Arabic hour numerals and hour markers, the Dauphine hands –all emblematic elements of the Reverso One models.

The reverse dial offers a striking contrast – dramatic and more mysterious. Enhanced by Art Deco-style gold hour markers – also emblematic of the collection – the black dial immediately catches the eye. Sprinkled across a background of glossy black lacquer, tiny gold flakes seem to form clusters of light particles, their radiance echoing the brilliance of the diamonds that adorn the case.

16

The Reverso One Duetto Jewellery raises the Duetto concept to even greater heights with a diamond- set bracelet – the first time that the case, bracelet attachment and bracelet links of a Reverso One have been fully gem-set. A total of 719 diamonds adorns this High Jewellery piece, including at least 384 for the bracelet alone.

To create the case and bracelet of the new Reverso One Duetto Jewellery, the gemsetters in Jaeger- LeCoultre’s Métiers Rares workshop used the grain-setting technique, anchoring the diamonds with tiny, almost invisible gold beads that give the precious stones an unparalleled sparkle. Setting four diamonds together in perfect symmetry within the tiny dimensions of each pink gold link is testament to the gemsetters’ mastery of their craft.

The new Reverso One Duetto Jewellery reaffirms the watchmaking expertise and jewellery savoir-faire that La Grande Maison has cultivated with passion for several decades.

It’s also thermally stable (with a touch that’s warmer than metal), while being scratch-resistant, non-magnetic, and hypo-allergenic.

18
19

With its rubber strap and 100-m water resistance, the Endurance Pro performs just as well in water as it does on land. And each one is powered by Breitling’s Caliber 82, a COSC-certified SuperQuartzTM movement that provides exceptional accuracy. Combine that with its easy readability, timekeeping chronograph function, and solar compass, and you have a powerful motivator for crossing the finish line. Treat yourself to one of these special-edition Endurance Pro watches as a reward for your achievement or let it be your incentive to conquer the challenge ahead. Either way, it’s a keepsake that will serve as a constant reminder of all that you put into becoming an IRONMAN.

L.U.C 1860 ONLY WATCH EDITION

Chopard once again commits to supporting Only Watch by gifting this charity auction a oneof-a-kind model inspired by an icon of watchmaking history – the first timepiece in the L.U.C collection presented in 1997. This unique interpretation of an emblematic model combines the sophistication of an Ice Green-toned solid white gold guilloché dial with a 36.5 mm case made of Chopard’s exclusive Lucent Steel™, as well as a finely crafted chronometer-certified movement. This L.U.C Calibre 96.40-L is wound by a gold micro-rotor and equipped with the two barrels inherent to Chopard Twin technology.

22

The L.U.C collection once again demonstrates its sophisticated character by offering a bold reissue of its very first timepiece: the L.U.C 1860, named “Watch of the Year” by Swiss magazine Montres Passion (Uhrenwelt) right from its launch in 1997. Today, a new Lucent Steel™ version with a solid white gold guilloché dial in an appealing Ice Green shade continues the Manufacture’s approach of combining respect for watchmaking tradition with innovation.

Lucent Steel™: the alchemist’s quest

The L.U.C collection draws on the luminous brilliance, resistance and purity that are key assets of Lucent Steel™, an exclusive alloy through which Chopard has chosen to treat steel as a precious metal. Resulting from four years of research and development, this metal endowed with properties comparable to those of surgical steel, entered the watchmaking world with the 2019 launch of the Alpine Eagle collection. As of 2023, Chopard has pledged to roll out 80% recycled steel for all its steel watches, a further demonstration of its ongoing commitment to responsible luxury. As a family-owned Maison keenly aware of the social and environmental challenges facing the watch and jewellery industry, in 2013, Chopard embarked on a Journey to Sustainable Luxury, an ambitious long-term undertaking driven by a sense of profound humility and intended to make a positive difference in the watch industry.

The aesthetic harmony of elegant contrasts

At the heart of the 36.50 mm Lucent Steel™ case nestles an elegant Ice Green-toned dial, chosen to evoke the beauty of green icebergs, which are found exclusively in the Antarctic. Icebergs are the real celebrities of polar regions and are mostly white or blue in colour. However, like an artist, Nature is capable of producing splendid green icebergs that scientists sometimes call “jade bergs”. This colour simultaneously symbolises the melting of glaciers, thus illustrating major environmental challenges and endowing this creation with distinctive symbolic value.

Made of solid white gold, this Ice Green-varnished dial strikes a contrast with the white gold touches of the hour-markers – whose herringbone shape echoes

that of the slender, facetted Dauphine-type hands. The dial centre is meticulously hand-guilloched in a radiating pattern surrounding the historical Chopard logo – housed in a cartouche at 12 o’clock – while the chapter ring is satin-brushed. The snailed small seconds counter is positioned at 6 o’clock in a beautiful balance of symmetry and proportions, further accentuated by the absence of a date aperture which also contributes to the pared-down design. The anthracite grey grained calfskin leather strap, with its tone-ontone stitching, complements the refined colours and textures skilfully orchestrated by the workshops.

Poinçon de Genève quality hallmark: a guarantee of fine craftsmanship

Combining their vertically integrated approach with the validation of independent authorities, the workshops have submitted this timepiece to the scrutiny

of the prestigious Poinçon de Genève. The latter guarantees the quality and smooth functioning of watches assembled in the Canton. The L.U.C 1860 Only Watch Edition takes this label of excellence to new heights, as it is rarely applied to a steel watch. However, the rendering of Lucent Steel™, the delicacy of the dial colour and the finesse of its motifs, along with the precision rating of the movement, transcend conventions, placing this model firmly in the upper echelons of contemporary watchmaking.

Certified mechanical performance

The L.U.C 1860 Only Watch Edition timepiece is equipped with the L.U.C 96.40-L movement, whose refinement is all the more remarkable given its mere 3.30 mm thickness. This movement is a variation on the very first L.U.C calibre, which marked the creation of the Chopard Manufacture watchmaking workshops in 1996. It is equipped with an off-centre micro-rotor in 22-carat gold, whose high inertia enables the efficient winding of two barrels. Stacked in accordance with Chopard Twin technology, these barrels store the energy required for a total 65-hour power reserve.

The L.U.C 96.40-L movement drives a small seconds indication, a prerequisite for chronometer certification by the Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute. Reflecting the L.U.C collection’s innate sophistication, it is also equipped with a stop-second function and a swan’s-neck index assembly. The latter serves to carefully calibrate the active length of the balance-spring, thus enabling finer adjustment of the oscillating frequency and hence of the movement’s rate. Finally, all the bridges are carefully chamfered and adorned with a Côtes de Genève motif.

Chopard and Only Watch, a heart-felt partnership

Regarded as the world’s largest charity watch auction, Only Watch will be holding its 10th edition on 5 November in Geneva. More than 50 watch Manufactures have each donated a unique timepiece, specially created for the occasion. The profits from this sale will be entirely donated to the Monegasque Association against Muscular Dystrophy to help fund research into Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a genetic disease that affects approximately one in 3,500 boys. Since its

creation in 2005, Only Watch has already raised over 100 million Swiss francs.

“We are very happy to support this focus of major scientific investigation that affects so many children and adults”, explains Karl-Friedrich Scheufele. “Since our first participation in 2005, this ongoing commitment has enabled us to develop bold one-off pieces stemming from lengthy aesthetic and technical research, endowed with powerful distinctive features that our collectors did not necessarily expect.”

L.U.C collection: horological fine craftsmanship

The L.U.C 1860 timepiece is part of a continuing story that began more than a quarter of a century ago when, under Karl-Friedrich Scheufele’s leadership, Chopard established the L.U.C collection, devoted to Haute Horlogerie art and traditions. Since the first L.U.C 1860 timepiece was introduced in 1997, the collection has been enriched over the years with exquisite, often highly original complications in watches designed, developed, assembled, decorated and certified according to the finest traditions of Swiss watchmaking in Chopard’s Fleurier and Geneva workshops. The re-edition of a L.U.C 1860 timepiece testifies to the timeless nature and versatility of a watch that has become a veritable watchmaking icon.

explores one of the important and influential personalities of the history of science. The subject of this painting is Jabir ibn Hayyan , the author of a vast array of literature in the 8th century that examines alchemy, chemistry and magic. He is considered the father of Arab chemistry. This body of work is called The Jabirian Corpus. Among the writings are texts that explore Shi’ite religious philosophy which supposedly derived from his master the Shi’ite Imam Ja’far al-Sadiq. He is credited with the introduction of experimental methodology into alchemy and the invention of several chemical processes used in modern chemistry. Among the most important contributions present in the Arabic writings attributed to Jabir is the importance of practical knowledge acquired through experience and experimentation, i.e. the adoption of the experimental method in the Islamic world, much earlier than in Europe. He is regarded by many as the father of the developed field of pharmacy.

The visual reference for this painting is vintage magic posters and the soul of this significant artwork examines the mystical theories of alchemy and magic throughout history.

SANAD - DOHA A SENSE OF BELONGING

Hear the Story of SANAD

SANAD (the Arabic word for “support”) is a high-end private members club aiming to provide the local community a unique experience along with tailored services and quality products, while conveying the generous hospitality and welcoming atmosphere of our Arab culture.

SANAD Private Members Club - Doha is entirely Arabic in all of its aspects. From the original concept, to the interior design elements, everything you will hear, see, smell, taste and touch at SANAD is a proud modern representation of our Arabic roots.

To better understand the story of SANAD, one must hear the story of Samira Hassan, the creator, co-founder and the heart behind the concept. Two stories that are inextricably intertwined. Samira introduces herself as “a Palestinian who has never been to her country”.

When she came up with SANAD’s idea, that Doha-born and raised mother of 4 wanted to celebrate the past, rewrite the present and change the pattern of the future while giving back to the city she gratefully calls

home, Doha. After raising up her children and being a support to her family, Samira decided to dedicate herself to a project that makes her feel alive and efficient, while representing her as a bicultural woman. For as the famous Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish says: “I don’t decide to represent anything except myself. But the self is full of collective memory”.

With the support of her eldest son, Fahad Monjid, an architectural designer and entrepreneur who studied in Toronto Canada and decided to come back to the city he was born and brought up in, SANAD’s idea turned into reality and Samira’s dream became true.

Fahad, co-founder of SANAD, who believed in his mother’s idea insists that “SANAD is not just another business” and that “this project is around our rituals, culture and background, but also an appreciation for the city we were born in”, whereas Samira aims to “raise awareness and revive crafts that were traditionally a part of this region and its heritage but are slowly fading away.” It is said that one needs to be proud to wish to preserve tradition, and Samira is proud of her mixed cultures, Palestinian and Qatari. Her persistence and determination in spite of all obstacles, in

28

addition to the support and motivation of her whole family including her second son and civil engineer Ahmad Monjid, were the perfect combination for achieving Samira’s objective.

SANAD Private Members Club is envisioned as an inviting oasis with premium services aiming to accommodate the needs of the local demographic and a distinguished private environment where like-minded people relish the finest arts, designs, events, food and atmosphere evoking the grace, charm and richness of our Arab cultural heritage.

To highlight the main areas within the space while generating a soft and welcoming experience, Fahad supported the double height ceilings creating a luxurious feeling, by curved design elements at an architectural scale. Throughout the different areas, he employed earthy tones and materials indigenous to the region, fostering a light and calming feel which enhances the guests’ experience of calm and leisure. He chose to mix between smooth surfaces created through handmade molds and natural travertine stone on the forward layer, to generate a contrast in an elegant and modern way.

See Arts, Culture & Heritage at SANAD

Housed in the heart of Msheireb area blending contemporary functionality with local aesthetic identity, SANAD Private Members Club revives Arabic culture, language and heritage in a luxurious yet very inviting atmosphere.

The area’s selection is far from being random, as it “embodies the spirit of SANAD” according to Fahad and holds most of Samira’s childhood memories. What was once known as the historic city centre and commercial district of Doha, turned in the past years into a contemporary neighborhood reinterpreting Qatari heritage and architecture with the key objective to revitalize the heart of the capital.

The elements that form the bedrock of Msheireb are at the essence of SANAD’s philosophy: modernizing our traditions, preserving our tangible and intangible heritage, building our community’s identity and reinforcing our sense of belonging to the Arab culture. And since our context always influences our work, what you see at SANAD is a unique fusion of modernity and tradition, as awe-inspiring inside as out.

29
“This project is around our rituals, culture and background but also an appreciation for the city we were born in.”
Fahad
Monjid
- co-founder of “Sanad”
“Msheireb area embodies the spirit of SANAD.”
Fahad Monjid - co-founder of “Sanad”

Different Middle-Eastern influences were woven into the interiors as well, in the form of contemporary furniture and artworks, creating a haven away from the crowded urban environment and making SANAD more comfortable than home.

Beside the sensory experience and the aesthetic side of art, we are firm believers that it does play a major role in the preservation of our heritage and history. In a collaborative approach, we commissioned distinguished artworks focusing on the regional culture and highlighting our Arabic language and identity. Hence, SANAD is housing a number of established and emerging, local and regional artists under its roof, with the aim of bringing back people to their roots.

First thing you will see when you enter SANAD, is a conceptual sculpture of the Sawsan Gilboa, a plant indigenous to Palestine, backdropped by the Qatari flag, by Doha-based Iraqi artist Ahmed Albahrani who wanted to express an appreciation to both countries.

The young acclaimed Qatari sculptor, Shouq Al Mana, created an exclusive piece from her “Egal” series which can be seen at the first floor lobby, representing the Arab family: the son, the father and the grandfather through the headwear worn by men as part of the traditional attire of the region.

The recurrent houses thematic in emerging Iraqi artist Reem Albahrani’s work is clearly present in the Qatari map sculpture commissioned for SANAD. The search for identity and the longing for one’s home country are at the core of this unique design.

The art of Palestinian embroidery known as Tatreez is showcased through a fabric panel woven with exceptional precision and dedication by Jordan River

Designs, an association supporting thousands of Palestinian and Jordanian women who rely on these traditional handicrafts for a living.

Tatreez is also present in customized furniture elements by Lebanese product designer Nada Debs who is known for using materials to tell tactile stories through her “handmade and heartmade” approach. For SANAD, Debs collaborated with Inaash, a NGO working to preserve Palestinian culture and harness it as a financial support for its practitioners in refugees camps across Lebanon.

Kuwaiti Arabic calligraphy artist Jassim Alnasrallah turned the famous saying about Arab hospitality by poet Al Khasibi “

into a sculpture piece proudly welcoming diners at SANAD’s restaurant.

A Smell of Nostalgia

At SANAD, our heritage, traditions and culture are found in every detail whether visual, auditory, tactile, gustatory or olfactory.

And because one smell can bring back a thousand memories, the Arabian fragrances will guide you throughout the diverse spaces of your home away from home. From the main entrance, to the different lounge areas, meeting rooms and private female lounge, a unique custom made interior scent will accompany you in your SANAD olfactory experience.

This exclusive oriental scents mixture bringing about a sense of nostalgia is created by S.Ishira, the successful local perfume factory with international standards.

30
لزنملا بّ ر تنأو فويضلا نحن انتدجول انترزول انفيضاي”

But what can trigger the nostalgic Proust phenomenon and its transporting property more than kitchen smells retrieving treasured memories and bringing back pleasant emotions?

The delectable aromas of zaatar, sumac, olives, oranges and damask roses indicate you have reached SANAD’s distinctive restaurant. Another elegant space allowing SANAD’s guests to indulge in middle-eastern flavors within an intimate and discreet setting.

The Taste of SANAD

Our food offerings, both in the restaurant and in the lounge, aim to implement how the best of the past and modern innovative technologies and thinking, can blend to create a new culinary language.

At the restaurant which is open for the public, Chef Anas Tabbara is offering a modern take on Levantine cuisine, fostering the luscious tastes of the region through a delightful interpretation of authentic products with a contemporary twist on both presentation and technique.

Guests can relish our seasonal menus focusing on glammed up regional ingredients served with a generous pinch of nostalgia.

For a diversified experience, our members have the exclusive access to the lounge providing a one-of-akind experience in blending Asian flavors and European delights in an elegant interpretation. The lounge à la carte menu signed by Chef Anas Tabbara offers both a distinct identity and an intercultural bridge.

We believe that food as much as art are significant means for establishing a cultural reservoir of knowledge that forms a narrative preserving our origins. Instead of limiting the past to collective culinary memory, modernity infused food with a historical dimension complement tradition and emphasize the similar more than the different, thus articulating a unique Arab cultural identity and heritage.

To enhance the authentic singularity of our food offerings, custom made plates, vases and decorative ceramic items were handcrafted locally by Clay Encounters, a small independent design and ceramics studio founded by Palestinian architect and entrepreneur Reem Abu Hassan.

“I would like SANAD to touch the heart of its members before moving their minds.”

From the elegance of our lounge spaces, to our bespoke service, exquisite décor and excellent cuisine, we lay equal emphasis on maintaining and nurturing a feeling of family and community through pampering our guests.

Samira would like SANAD “to touch the heart of its members before moving their minds”. It is her way of giving back to the welcoming local community that considered her and her family as one of them.

From his side, Fahad who considers SANAD as “more than just a business”, is looking to foster a sense of belonging among its carefully selected members.

THE ALL-NEW BMW X1 M35I XDRIVE

A performance model with unmistakable M character is taking its place at the top of the new BMW X1 range. The new BMW X1 M35i xDrive builds on the spontaneous driving pleasure that lies at the heart of the compact Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) concept with an injection of the dynamism, agility and precision for which M models are renowned.

Powertrain and driving experience. Most powerful four-cylinder unit from the latest generation of engines, M-specific chassis technology, BMW xDrive.

A performance model with unmistakable M character is taking its place at the top of the new BMW X1 range. The new BMW X1 M35i xDrive builds on the spontaneous driving pleasure that lies at the heart of the compact Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) concept with an injection of the dynamism, agility and

precision for which M models are renowned. Its four-cylinder unit is part of the new modular generation of BMW Group Efficient Dynamics engines and uses M TwinPower Turbo technology.

The new BMW X1 M35i xDrive races to 100 km/h from rest in 5.4 seconds, while top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h. M-specific chassis technology – including the option of M Compound brakes for the first time on a performance model – teams up with BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive to

deliver sublime performance characteristics. The sharper character of the new BMW X1 M35i xDrive is clearly apparent both inside and out. The new range-topping model comes with the type of exclusive design and equipment features originally reserved for high-performance cars from BMW M GmbH. These include the two pairs of exhaust tailpipes and the optional M Sport seats with illuminated M logo.

34

Supreme traction and agility: BMW xDrive all-wheel drive

The BMW xDrive intelligent allwheel-drive system ensures that drive power is distributed between the front and rear wheels as required in any situation. The system is interlinked with the chassis control tech at all times. A hangon clutch with electro-hydraulic control allows drive torque to be

directed to the rear wheels as well in a matter of a few milliseconds, providing significantly greater traction, directional stability and sporting prowess in the BMW mould.

Adaptive M suspension and sport steering as standard.

Standard specification for the new BMW X1 M35i xDrive includes adaptive M suspension, whose

mechanically controlled adjustable and frequency-selective dampers benefit both agility and long-distance comfort. Pressure peaks inside the dampers are smoothed out with the help of additional valves that are active on the rebound side. As a result, the system offers comfortable response when absorbing minor bumps in the road surface combined with sporty damper characteristics in dynamic driving situations. The M-specific chassis

35

On the Road

technology on the performance model additionally brings about a 15-millimetre drop in ride height compared with other BMW X1 model variants.

Integrated braking system with the option of M Compound brakes.

The integrated braking system fitted in the new BMW X1 M35i xDrive generates a degree of stopping power that is matched exactly to the driver’s inputs, while also providing excellent feedback via the brake pedal. It brings together the brake activation, brake booster and braking control functions within a compact module, while an electric actuator is used to trigger the required brake pressure.

Near-actuator wheel slip limitation for sharper agility.

A particularly prominent contributor – alongside the DSC (Dynamic

Stability Control) system – to the BMW X1 M35i xDrive’s ever-present combination of unshakable handling poise and supreme agility is near-actuator wheel slip limitation technology. Here, the traction control function is integrated into the engine management. This eliminates the long signal paths to the DSC control unit, meaning that the

corrective inputs are applied up to ten times faster than in conventional systems and with exceptional precision. Near-actuator wheel slip limitation thereby ensures optimum traction (even on slippery roads), unwavering straight-line composure under hard acceleration, and excellent directional stability in corners.

36

19-inch M light-alloy wheels as standard.

M light-alloy wheels in twin-spoke design measuring 19 inches in diameter round off the bespoke chassis specification of the new BMW X1 M35i xDrive.

The standard light-alloy wheels are fitted with tyres that are 20 millimetres wider than on the outgoing model to give the range-topper even greater dynamic handling potential. 20-inch M light-alloy wheels in an exclusive twin-spoke design and sport tyres can both be found on the options list.

Design and equipment. An exclusive window into signature M performance.

The new BMW X1 M35i xDrive stands apart from its stablemates in the compact SAV line-up not only on account of its superior performance attributes, but also with its distinctive design. M-specific design cues reflect the elite sporting character of the new range-topping model with an intensity unmatched in any previous performance model from BMW M GmbH.

The interior of the new BMW X1 M35i xDrive already offers an arrestingly sporting ambience in

its standard specification, and its distinctive aura can be enhanced further still with exclusive options such as M Sport seats. The M-specific content on the BMW Curved Display – a fully digital screen grouping formed by the 10.25-inch information display and the control display with a screen diagonal of 10.7 inches – sharpens the driver’s focus on the sporty driving experience. Added to which, the most powerful variant of the compact SAV can also be specified with almost the full range of options offered for the BMW X1 when it comes to optimising driving pleasure, comfort and individuality.

THE NEW MERCEDES BENZ GLC SUV … MODERN DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY, SPORTY PERFORMANCE AND EFFICIENCY

The completely newly developed Mercedes Benz GLC SUV impresses with modern design and technology, sporty performance and efficiency as well as comfort and agility. Whether on- or off-road, the GLC is at home on any terrain. The new rear axle steering also makes it even more agile and dynamic. With all its features and equipment, the new GLC defends its top position in the Mercedes Benz passenger car portfolio: it has been the best-selling vehicle for more than two years.

Mercedes Benz GLC SUV is available at Nasser Bin Khaled Automobiles, the general authorised distributor of Mercedes-Benz in Qatar, at NBK Automobiles showroom on Salwa Road.

Performance

The new GLC comes in two variants: the GLC 200 4MATIC is equipped with 1,999 CC engine, with a system output of up to 150 kW (204 hp) and a maximum torque of 320 Nm, and the acceleration from 0 to 100 km is 7.8 seconds. The GLC 300 4MATIC comes with 1,999 CC engine, with a system output of up to 190 KW (258 hp) and a maximum torque of 400 Nm, and the acceleration from 0 to 100 km is 6.2 sec.

Exterior and Design

The new GLC is immediately recognisable as a member of the Mercedes Benz SUV family. Different design and equipment lines lend the vehicle its very own character.

The vehicle is distinguished with its optional panorama sliding sunroof, allowing the passengers to experience an exciting feeling of freedom and enjoy a pleasantly bright ambience in the interior. When viewed from the

outside, the generous sliding sunroof likewise makes a unique visual impression, as it lends lightness and exclusivity to the exterior.

The new two-section taillights feature a high-quality, three-dimensional full-LED light design. The practical two-section design allows for a wider tailgate as well as a larger load compartment opening. At the same time, the modern, slimmer light design conveys more dynamism even when the vehicle is stationary.

The combination of AIRMATIC air suspension and rear axle steering provides noticeably more ride comfort and agility. The air suspension fascinates with dynamics or comfort according to choose, while the rear axle steering enables supremely confident or agile handling and a smaller turning circle, depending on the speed.

Aluminium-look running boards with rubber studs

The newly designed and optional aluminium-look running boards reinforce the SUV character of the GLC. They are mounted at the height of the side skirts and facilitate entry. The running boards have a sporty “shaped” design, which means they are narrower in the area of the front doors and become wider towards the rear.

The new GLC is attractive from every perspective – but in a side view, the combination of sporty design and SUV details lends it a particularly expressive look. This is largely thanks to the extensive portfolio of large-dimension, externally flush light-alloy wheels ranging in size from 45.7 cm (18 inches) to 50.8 cm (20 inches).

The SUV front of the new GLC underscores the vehicle’s sportiness with its radiator grille with chrome

38

surround and vertical louvres as well as the directly adjoining headlights that emphasise the width. The centrally positioned Mercedes star is, of course, one of the familiar elements of the striking front end design.

Luxury and sporty improved Interior

The interior of the new GLC SUV sets standards. Be it the central display tilted towards the driver, the multifunction sports steering wheel or high-quality trim elements: high-quality materials ensure luxurious comfort that you can feel - on every journey.

The multifunction sports steering wheel in nappa leather has a flattened bottom section and deeply embossed grip area – excellent prerequisites for a sporty driving style. The high-quality, soft nappa leather is a quality experience in itself. Use the touch control panels to operate the most important vehicle functions without having to take your hands off the steering wheel.

The MBUX multimedia system with central display is tilted towards the driver and operated by touch. It is the digital interface between you and the vehicle, through which you control many important functions of the vehicle - intuitively and comfortably.

The luggage compartment capacity of the new GLC SUV comes with the EASY-PACK tailgate as standard. It is spacious, functional and equipped to a high standard. The new GLC becomes even more comfortable with the Boot Comfort Package as standard.

State of the art Technology

The optional head-up display shows you all the essential information directly on the windscreen, so your full attention remains on the road and the traffic. In the new Mercedes-Benz GLC, the head-up display it is now even bigger, precise and comfortable.

The central display is tilted towards the driver and operated by touch input. It is the digital interface between you and the vehicle, through which you control many important functions of the vehicle. It is as intuitive and comfortable as possible.

Your profile can be used to pre-activate certain personalised settings, such as the colour of the interior lighting or the seat position. KEYLESS-GO puts an end to irritating searches for the vehicle key. Your key will be recognised when you have it on your person while close to or inside your vehicle: all doors can then be opened and locked simply by touching the door handle.

39

GUARD 360° vehicle protection

URBAN GUARD vehicle protection Plus offers all-round monitoring of the vehicle’s surroundings. Thanks to the anti-theft alarm system, as well as emergency key deactivation, you will be able to act quickly. On the road, the collision detection notifies you via the app. And the Stolen Vehicle Help service increases the chance of recovering your property if your vehicle is ever stolen.

PRE-SAFE® Impulse Side

With the PRE-SAFE® Impulse Side, if the new GLC detects an unavoidable side collision, PRE-SAFE® Impulse Side initiates measures to move the occupants towards the centre of the vehicle. This way, the vehicle will reduce the force exerted in the event of an accident.

With its continuously adjustable damping control on each individual wheel, AIRMATIC enables a particularly smooth ride. This will enable you to drive in outstanding comfort and arrive more relaxed at your destination. In addition, the air suspension can be raised by 15 mm if necessary and it automatically adjusts to different vehicle loads.

Dual-voltage 12/48-volt on-board electrical system

The new Mercedes-Benz GLC offers a dual-voltage 12/48-volt electrical system for vehicles powered by an internal-combustion engine. The additional 48-volt energy management as a step on the road to electrification generates efficiency, consumption and comfort benefits.

Off-Road drive program and Off-Road Cockpit

You can select the Off-Road drive program via DYNAMIC SELECT: traction, brake control and drive behavior are adapted to the driving situation. The off-road light of the headlamps is also activated if your new GLC has DIGITAL LIGHT.

At the mere touch of a button, the central display turns into an attractive off-road screen. Off-road-specific displays, settings and functions are vividly presented here and in the driver’s display and can thus be experienced visually.

40

On the Road

Optional Systems

MBUX Augmented Reality Navigation is optional in the new GLC. To enable you to find your way in complex traffic situations, MBUX Augmented Reality Navigation connects the virtual world with the real world. The technology incorporates graphic navigation instructions and traffic information into live images. You can reach your destination quickly, safely and stress-free. The MBUX navigation system can take into account that the GLC is driving in trailer mode when calculating the route. The route is even calculated according to the type of trailer – bicycle carrier, small trailer and large trailer. For example, steep gradients or tight bends on the route are avoided to suit the car/trailer combination.

Parking Package with 360° camera: Detects available parking spaces and designated parking spaces as you drive past. After selecting a parking space, you can park in it effortlessly thanks to dynamic visualisation and acoustic feedback – or have the vehicle manoeuvre into the space with assisted parking.

Driving Assistance Plus Package: Offers maximum comfort & safety on the road to autonomous driving. You receive Active Stop-and-Go Assist, which takes the strain off you on motorways. Another advantage: PRE-SAFE® Impulse Side can provide additional protection inside collisions caused by other vehicles.

Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC: You will be grateful for the convenience of Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC in flowing & stop-and-go traffic. It takes the strain off you by automatically adapting your own speed to that of slower-moving vehicles travelling ahead. The desired specified distance can be set at several levels.

ENERGIZING Package Plus: This package bundles together a variety of premium equipment with innovative intelligence. Your Mercedes can invigorate and indulge you in targeted ways – for prolonged alertness at the wheel and an extremely pleasant drive. With seven varied comfort programs and attractive extras such as multicontour seats.

DIGITAL LIGHT with projection function: The pioneering headlamp technology combines the familiar MULTIBEAM LED with innovative high-resolution lighting technology. Light projections in HD quality are projected directly onto the road surface and provide the driver with information.

vehicles embody the spirit of BMW, combining luxury, innovation, and exhilaration. We are confident that the arrival of the new BMW X5 and BMW X6 will resonate with our valued customers who seek the ultimate driving experience.”

With a rich heritage of excellence and innovation, BMW has consistently pushed the boundaries of automotive engineering, and the X5 and X6 models are no exception. These luxury SUVs combine cutting-edge technology, powerful performance, and striking design, delivering an unparalleled driving experience.

The inclusion of the xLine design elements as standard gives the BMW X5 significantly greater presence and visual robustness. Its front end is shaped by the fresh interpretation of the hallmark BMW headlights and kidney grille. The new headlight units now have a 35-millimetre slimmer outline. Their arrow-shaped daytime driving light elements point outwards and also serve as turn signal indicators. Matrix LED headlights with adaptive control and BMW Selective Beam non-dazzling high beam, plus M Shadowline lights, are included on the options list.

42

The new BMW X6 also has slim headlight units with arrow-shaped daytime driving light elements. As before, the BMW kidney Iconic Glow is offered as an option for the six-cylinder models. The dynamic character of the new BMW X6 is highlighted even more intently with the now standard M Sport package. Playing a key role here is the octagonal front-end signature below the BMW kidney grille, with its striking side apertures and generous use of black surfaces. In addition, the three-dimensional sculpting of the front apron underscores the car’s width and brawny stature.

Credit for the elite sporting prowess of the two range-topping models goes to a new 4.4-litre V8 petrol engine, derived from the power units in high-performance models from BMW M GmbH. M TwinPower Turbo technology and a cross-bank exhaust manifold imbue the 530 hp engine, which generates peak torque of 750 Nm, with impressively accomplished performance characteristics.

The M Sport package is available as an option for the new BMW X5 to convey the feeling of exclusive dynamism, as it does as standard in the design of the new BMW X6. They include double bars and an M logo for the BMW kidney grille, M exterior mirror caps in Black highgloss, exhaust system tailpipe trim in the hallmark M quad-pipe style. Fitting adaptive suspension as standard, modifying the anti-roll bars in response to changes in weight distribution and strengthening them accordingly gives the new BMW X5 and new BMW X6 their signature blend of sporting versatility and excellent long-distance

comfort. Adaptive M suspension, which comes as standard on both the range-topping models as well as the other variants of the new BMW X6, provides a particularly firm connection to the body. Adaptive two-axle air suspension and the xOffroad package are offered as options. The range-topping models are equipped as standard with Integral Active Steering. This is available as an option for all other models or as part of the adaptive M suspension Professional, which also includes an M Sport differential and an active roll stabilisation system.

Comfort and safety in the new BMW X5 and new BMW X6 can be taken to another new level with a significantly expanded selection of automated driving and parking systems. Updates include enhanced capabilities for the standard front-collision warning system, which can now also reduce the risk of a collision with cyclists, pedestrians or oncoming traffic when turning off

As well as the Reversing Assist Camera and Reversing Assistant, the standard Parking Assistant now also comprises the drive-off monitoring and Trailer Assistant functions. SWISS SERENITY: THE FATHER AND SON CREATING MEMORIES IN THEIR UNIQUE BUGATTI BABY II

The Little Car Company, makers of the limited-edition Bugatti Baby II, is delighted to see one of its Pur Sang models put to fascinating use in the scenic Swiss town of Oberägeri .

Dutch entrepreneur, Linferd Huismans, has been using his wonderfully personalised Bugatti Baby II to create unforgettable family memories with his four-year-old son. As soon as he collects his son from kindergarten, the pair drive on private roads in the Bugatti Baby II down to the picturesque lake of Oberägeri for an afternoon of fun.

The journey has become a regular feature of Linferd and his son’s week, as they make their way to the lake to spend some quality time together, whether that be exploring the lake or watching and feeding the fish. Of course, these trips wouldn’t be the same without their routine stop at the local ice cream parlour.

44

Linferd commissioned his Bugatti Baby II in a delightfully unique fashion, with a number of idiosyncratic flourishes making it truly his own. The Fierce Green exterior paintwork blends perfectly with the black leather interior, and as a Pur Sang model, the handformed aluminium bodywork is the result of 200 hours of skilled craftsmanship. With a custom varnish applied to the exterior, the touring pack bodywork glistens as Linferd and his son enjoy their lakeside drives.

With only 500 Bugatti Baby IIs being produced, each one must be recognisable and true to the owner, and Linferd had a specific design in mind for his car. A specially engraved filler cap denotes his Bugatti Baby II as ‘041 of 500’, while a special speed key, steering wheel and painted mirror enhance the distinctive nature of this reimagined icon. For a final flourish, custom brown leather straps adorn the exterior for a truly authentic aesthetic.

45

On the Road

Discussing his bespoke Bugatti Baby II, Mr Huismans said: “When I pick my son up from playgroup, I’ll often ask, ‘do you want to go in the big race car or the small race car?’, and he’ll always say the small race car. So, we’ll both hop into the Bugatti Baby II and drive down to the lake and have an ice cream. We can spend an hour, half an hour, or sometimes lose track of time and spend the whole afternoon there.

“We share many days like this, and it’s also lovely to see the fascination of the other kids at his playgroup. They’ll often ask to sit in it, and I’ll see their parent’s face light up as we go for a spin.”

Ben Hedley, CEO of The Little Car Company, added: “For many of us, specific cars hold unbelievable sentimental value and are the centre of memories that stay with us for a lifetime. The cars we produce are no different and we are delighted to hear how Linferd

46

and his son are enjoying their Bugatti Baby II in such a heart-warming way.

“As well as the wonderful stories of how our clients across the globe are using their cars, and the memories they are creating with them, we never get tired of seeing how clients have personalised their Bugatti Baby II to suit their own tastes. Linferd’s story of his drives to the lake with his son in their beautifully commissioned Bugatti Baby II exemplifies what makes producing these incredible cars so special.”

The Little Car Company hand builds the Bugatti Baby II at its Bicester factory, and the fully electrified reincarnation of the Type 35 Bugatti has been developed in collaboration with the iconic French marque, with the Baby II’s solid silver Bugatti Macaron a symbol of its authenticity.

Alfardan Sports Motors, the official importer of Alfa Romeo in Qatar, is proud to reveal the Alfa Romeo’s latest marvel - the All-New Tonale. The Veloce builds on this with a dark miron V front bezel, Veloce badging and body kit, matt side and front inserts, gloss black window surrounds, privacy glass and 19-inch dark finish diamond cut alloy wheels with monochrome Alfa Romeo centre wheel caps and red Brembo brake calipers. Inside, the Veloce adds aluminum door sills, plus column mounted aluminum shift paddles to its distinctive black and fully electrical ventilated black leather seats.

stylistic elements destined to remain as points of reference in the development of the Alfa Romeo lineup: 5-hole wheel rims, the cluster in the “telescopic” instrument panel, the 3-spoke sports steering wheel, and the sine-curve headlights.

The “3+3” headlights with new Full-LED Adaptive Matrix evoke the proud look of the SZ Zagato or the Proteo concept car. Developed in conjunction with Marelli, the three modules make up a unique frontline for the car and always ensure the best lighting conditions.

INDUSTRY-FIRST TECHNOLOGY

In a world exclusive, Tonale debuts non-fungible token (NFT) technology, a true innovation in the automotive sector. Alfa Romeo is the first automaker to link a car with an NFT digital certificate. The technology is based on the “blockchain card” concept, a confidential and non-modifiable record of the main stages in the life of an individual vehicle. With the customer’s consent, the NFT will record vehicle data, generating a certificate that can be used as a guarantee that the car has been properly maintained, with a positive impact on its residual value.

The major new features in the Alfa Romeo Tonale include built-in Amazon Alexa voice assistant features, so you can always “feel at home” in your car, making the everyday experience even more enhanced and convenient.

On the all-new infotainment system featuring a customizable Android operating system and 4G connectivity, it also offers content, functionality and services that are always kept up to date. The system includes a fully digital 12.3” screen, the main 10.25” touchscreen unit, and a smooth, sophisticated multitasking interface, keeping everything at a glance without distracting your attention from the road. Totaling 22.5”, the two large Full TFT screens are best-in-class in the segment.

DESIGN: UNMISTAKABLY ALFA ROMEO

Intended for a young, metropolitan and dynamic customer, the Alfa Romeo Tonale offers a distinctive, sensual and forward-looking design, extolling new

Technology is also at the service of safety and comfort: level 2 autonomous driving, with new Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) that act in line with the Alfa Romeo philosophy. These include “Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control” (IACC), “Lane Centering” (LC) and “Traffic Jam Assist” – which automatically adjust speed and trajectory, keeping the car in the middle of the lane and at a distance from the vehicle in front, thus ensuring safety and comfort.

A modern icon that fuses classic character with contemporary execution, Valour

Motivated by this rich heritage, Valour has been realised using the very latest technology, methods and materials. As such it is a fusion of the essential qualities that have come to define Aston Martin’s greatest front-engined models. Glorious throwback and contemporary masterpiece, Valour is the best of Aston Martin past and present and the antidote to cars that seek to isolate drivers from the process of driving.

Valour’s bloodline is second-tonone. Inspired by the original V8 Vantage and magnificent Vantage-based RHAM/1 ‘Muncher’ Le Mans racer from 1980, it boasts the unbridled brawn so typical of Aston Martin’s ultimate sports

52

cars. Machines like the 1990s twin supercharged V600 Vantage; for a time the world’s most powerful production car. Immaculate design and flawless execution echoes that of the exquisite One-77 supercar, while its intense driver-centric character connects Valour to the one-off Victor.

With production limited to just 110 cars globally, Valour’s rarity ensures it will be amongst the most collectable of all Aston Martins. A mouth-watering end-of-an-era specification - which mates the epic 715PS/753Nm twin-turbocharged 5.2-litre V12 to a bespoke six-speed manual transmission for the very first time - guarantees a truly absorbing experience and secures Valour’s place in the pantheon of all-time great driver’s cars.

Benefitting from a unique powertrain calibration, Valour’s immense power and torque outputs are unrestrained, offering the driver full performance and utmost control in every gear. A mechanical limited-slip differential enhances the sense of direct analogue connection between car and driver, with the added support and reassurance of electronic traction and stability control systems. Valour’s Driving Modes – Sport, Sport+ and Track –have also been tuned to offer meticulously judged throttle response, torque management and sound character.

Underlining its dynamic credentials Valour has received a bespoke suspension, with adaptive dampers, springs and anti-roll bars all honed specifically to the car. Wheel alignment geometry has dedicated camber, castor and toe settings. These characteristics ensure Valour possesses distinct and clearly

53

defined ride and handling qualities. A road car first and foremost, this means successfully striking a sporting balance of taut, precise vertical body control and resolute resistance to roll, while offering the compliance to shine on great driving roads.

Further honing its unique dynamic character, Valour’s custom body structure features front and rear shear panels, a rear suspension tower strut brace and fuel tank bracing. These elements maximise both torsional and lateral stiffness, providing the suspension with an optimised platform in order to deliver more precise body control and increased refinement. In addition, a new steering system removes unwanted sources of compliance to give the driver even greater sense of detailed feel, connection and immediacy.

With standard-fit Carbon Ceramic Brakes, Valour has ample stopping power courtesy of front discs measuring 410mm x 38mm and gripped by 6-piston calipers. At the rear 360mm x 32mm discs are paired with 4-piston calipers. Offering increased braking performance and a significant 23kg reduction in un-sprung mass versus steel brakes, these CCB discs are engineered to resist brake fade at temperatures up to 800 degrees, enabling the driver to explore Valour’s full performance potential with maximum confidence and precise control.

Completing Valour’s impressive hardware package are a set of beautiful 21” lightweight forged alloy ‘Honeycomb’ wheels, which are fitted with the very latest AML-specific Michelin Pilot Sport S 5 tyres275/35 R21 front tyres and 325/30

54

R21 on the rear - for inspired handling and road-holding in wet or dry conditions.

Simon Newton, Aston Martin’s Director of Vehicle Performance, said: “Inspired by the iconic, muscle cars from our past, we have endowed Valour with an abundance of power and torque, while using modern technology and engineering to make that performance more exploitable and enjoyable.

On the Road

characteristics are vividly expressed in Valour’s broad stance and highly developed physique. Made entirely from carbon fibre the bodywork marries Aston Martin’s contemporary design language with instantly recognisable cues from the iconic 1970s V8 Vantage. The result is bold and unmistakable from any angle.

The clamshell bonnet features a large ‘horse shoe’ vent and twin NACA ducts to provide ample ventilation for the twin-turbocharged V12 that sits beneath. Aston Martin’s iconic grille shape has been evolved to enhance both form and function. Its central section is defined by aluminium strakes, while large carbon fibre intakes on either side feed the engine and brakes with cool air. They also frame the classically inspired round LED headlights, unique to Valour and which sit beneath rakish eyebrow-like grille with menacing effect.

A big part of honouring that driver-pleasing character was mating our fabulous V12 engine to a manual transmission. It was a unique part of the brief and the end result is something truly unforgettable; a state-of-the-art driver’s car that thrives on being pushed to its limits and has the true heart and soul of a timeless analogue classic’.

Those immense performance capabilities and intense driving

Modern aerodynamic thinking has been effortlessly incorporated into the design, with expert management of the airflow optimising stability while achieving a uniquely assertive design. The prominent front splitter and front fender vents incorporated into Valour’s flanks work in harmony with the rear screen panel’s featuring vortex generating exoblades, and elegantly upswept Kamm tail and prominent diffuser to achieve aerodynamic balance.

The rear-end also features a dramatic tail-light graphic, with clusters of LED light blades (six on each side) echoing the ground-breaking Valkyrie hypercar. A full-width aluminium accent – milled from a solid billet and polished to a flawless finish – delineates the rear-end,

55

On the Road

separating the upper and lower sections to dramatic effect. Positioned between the deep elements of the rear diffuser is the centrepiece of Valour’s extraordinary rear design; a triple tailpipe exhaust system fabricated from lightweight stainless steel. With a wall thickness of less than 1mm this special tubing makes a 7kg weight saving versus a traditional system, yet emits a gloriously heavyweight soundtrack.

Valour’s celebration of Aston Martin’s heritage continues inside, with a timeless two-seater cockpit of uncommon simplicity and seductive tactility. Central to this is the manual transmission gear lever. With a choice of machined aluminium, titanium, carbon fibre or walnut for the gearknob, and an exposed shift mechanism to emphasise the mechanical connection, Valour majors on delivering the physical and emotional engagement that has been lost to progress.

Masterful use of materials has long been an Aston Martin hallmark, so it’s no surprise to find Valour’s interior shines with original and highly effective combinations from which customers can create their own unique specification. For example, traditional woollen tweed inspired by the seat coverings of Aston Martin’s 1959 Le Mans-winning DBR1 provide a wonderful contrast against the high-tech weave of carbon fibre used to form the shells of Valour’s lightweight performance seats, bespoke door cards, fascia air vents, upper centre console and transmission tunnel.

Further personalisation comes in the form of a flexible method of livery customisation. Separating Valour’s body into four areas – front, bonnet, sides and rear – clients may

choose from an extensive array of hand-painted stripes and graphics designs, which can be applied in any one of 21 paint colours.

Should a customer wish to go beyond the standard palette of Valour options then they may engage the services of Q by Aston Martin to create a truly bespoke specification. Examples of this include design of a one-off livery, fully exposed 2x2 twill carbon fibre bodywork with a choice of red, blue or green tint, painted wheels, Mokume carbon fibre interior detailing or a choice of Johnsons of Elgin tweed and cashmere fabrics for the seats and headlining.

Miles Nurnberger, Aston Martin’s Director of Design, said: “At Aston Martin our design is always progressive, but when it comes to celebrating a significant milestone – in this instance our 110th birthdaywe allow ourselves a little latitude. Consequently, Valour is gloriously unapologetic; an old-school brute

refined and reimagined through the lens of 2023. Making a return to a chiselled shape, moving away from the more sculptural forms that define current series production Aston Martin’s, with bold details and modern materials root in the present. We were keen to ensure its looks reflect the driving experience. The raw physicality of the shape should tell you all you need to know about the ferocious performance and analogue thrills of taming a 715PS manual transmission sports car, yet the clear use of the latest technology points to a car with modern manners and exceptional dynamic capabilities”.

Valour production is due to commence at Aston Martin’s Gaydon Headquarters in Q3 of 2023, with first deliveries scheduled to begin during Q4 2023. Poised to become one of the most coveted cars in Aston Martin’s unrivalled canon of iconic front-engined special series sports cars, Valour is a precious collector’s piece that demands to be driven.

ASTRONAUT TIM PEAKE LANDS AT ANANTARA KIHAVAH

MALDIVES VILLAS RESORT FOR A STELLAR WEEK OF SPACE TALK

AND ASTRONOMY

One of the UK’s most famous astronauts, Tim Peake, is visiting Anantara Kihavah Maldives Villas Resort, this November to host a special evening of conversation with guests and a separate talk about space dedicated to teens.

Situated in the Baa Atoll, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, Anantara Kihavah is home to the first overwater observatory in the Maldives and the most powerful telescope in the region. The private island resort’s location just above the equator means that both hemisphere’s stars are visible from the resort. Coupled with minimal light pollution and open skies, it is possible to see sights such as the pale-yellow rings of Saturn and the counter-rotating zones and belts of Jupiter and the Omega Centauri in the Milky

Way making Anantara Kihavah the perfect partner for Tim’s talks and the ideal resort for astronomy and space enthusiasts.

A relaxed and intimate talk on Tim’s ‘Journey Beyond Earth” will take place early evening on Thursday, 2 November 2023 on Anantara Kihavah’s Sky Deck, an overwater observatory combined with a luxury cocktail bar. Accompanied by champagne and cosmic-inspired cocktails, Tim will act as a personal guide through life in space, offering a fascinating insight into what it’s really like to be an astronaut; from training to launch, spacewalk to re-entry and the wonders of how and why humans journey into space. With a maximum of 20 guests joining, it will be possible to ask Tim questions delving deep into life as an astronaut.

Tim’s talk will be complemented by a 60-minute stargazing session at Sky with Anantara Kihavah’s resident Sky Guru, Hammadh, at a time that suits guests during their holiday. A native Maldivian, Hammadh will take guests on a journey across both hemisphere’s stars and planets, clarifying what can be seen both with the naked eye and using the resort’s powerful research-grade 16” Meade LX200 telescope mounted on a super-giant field tripod within the custom-built Ash-dome observatory which has a viewing capacity of 30 million light years away.

As his stay falls over the half term period, he will also host a talk on exploring space, for teens aged between 10 and 18 years-old on Friday, 3 November 2023. A bestselling author, Tim also has a popular series of books for young teens including the ‘Swarm Rising’ books and ‘The Cosmic Diary of our Incredible Universe’. Accompanied by cosmic

68

inspired mocktails and space inspired snacks and deserts, Tim will chat about his books and life as an astronaut, including becoming the first British astronaut to both visit the International Space Station and conduct a space-walk during his six-month mission, and also running the London marathon from space. He may even give a few tips to anyone hoping to following in his footsteps. This will be followed by a 60-minute stargazing session with Hammadh, tailored to younger guests.

Fitting in with the astrology theme, Anantara Kihavah’s Kid’s Club will have an intergalactic takeover from 1 to 5 November, with little guests taking part in space-inspired activities such as recycled rocket craft, space cookie making, planet puppet making and space painting using coffee.

SURGE IN WEALTHY INDIVIDUALS IS DRIVING RAPID EXPANSION FOR LUXURY RETAILERS

The rising number of high net worth individuals and mass affluent globally is the key driver behind rapid expansion of the luxury retail market, new global research* by world-leading communication technology company Communications Specialist Ltd shows.

Its study with senior executives at luxury retailers with total annual turnover of $3.1 billion across Asia, Africa, Europe, the US and South America found they are forecasting annual growth of more than 5.6% for the luxury retail sector over the next three years.

The research by Communications Specialist Ltd which supplies technology supporting luxury retailers and their clients found growing confidence about rising revenues at their firms and for the market as a whole.

Senior executives questioned for the research highlighted the growth in high net worth individuals and mass affluent people across

the world as the biggest reason rising sales.

Around 80% of executives said growing wealth globally is boosting sales while more than half (53%) pointed to improved performance by luxury retailers and pent-up demand following the COVID-19 pandemic. Around a third (31%) say increased sales are down to more personalised offers from luxury retailers for clients.

The combination of factors is undoubtedly translating into higher sales – almost all (96%) questioned believe revenues at their firm will be higher this year than in 2022. More than a fifth (22%) expect revenues to be 50% higher this year.

Key to facilitating this growth is technology, and Communications Specialist Ltd research reveals that luxury goods retailers are set to significantly boost spending in this area in order to capitalise on this. Kevin Buchler. Chief Marketing

Officer at Communications Specialist Ltd, said: “The luxury retail sector globally is growing strongly but retailers are having to adapt to changing customer demands and perceptions.

“The rise of online shopping identified in the research coupled with a need to enhance the instore experience is putting pressure on the costs of retailers.

“We are seeing the impact in increased interest from the sector which represents a growing market for secure radio communications and communications technology.”

Communications Specialist Ltd’s study with senior executives at luxury retailers found they are predicting an increase of 36% in spending on technology over the next three years. One in five believe spending will rise by 50% or more.

A key focus is the increased use of mobile solutions such as mobile

74

POS devices which help sales staff to enhance customers service in stores and help manage delivers to customers.

Around a quarter (24%) of executives questioned expect the use of mobile POS to increase dramatically over the next three years while 76% expect a slight increase.

Enhancing the customer experience in stores is important as the research by Communications Specialist Ltd found sales are increasingly moving online.

On average the executives questioned expect 28% of sales in the luxury retail market to be online within three years as customers increasingly want to interact with favoured brands online.

Luxury retailers also believe increased investment in technology and communications will boost operational efficiency across the sector.

Currently just one in four (26%) believe the sector achieves excellence in its levels of operational efficiency. Around 58% rate efficiency levels in the sector as good while 16% say it is merely average.

However, the study with senior executives at luxury retailer found plans to invest in technology and communications are expected to enhance the customer experience and efficiency in the sector.

Around one in in four (24%) expect a dramatic improvement in efficiency over the next three years while 76% expect a slight improvement, the research by Communications Specialist Ltd which supplies technology supporting luxury retailers and their clients found.

Investment is likely to include the widespread adoption of technology such as mobile POS devices for sales staff to improve customer service and reduce waiting times in stores. The mobile POS technology

Kevin Buchler added: “Technology is transforming many industries and the luxury good and high-end retail sector is no different.

“Increased spending on technology is widespread throughout the sector but it is paying off in terms of increased operational efficiency which is important for a sector which is achieving strong growth but is always under pressure to contain costs.”

BRONZAGE SPA WITH HANADI CHEHADE

Please introduce your yourself to our readers...

I’m a Danish citizen with Arabic roots and I’ve spent 26 years working in the Beauty Industry. I’ve studied cosmetology and worked with high-end beauty brands such as CHANEL, Dior and many more in Copenhagen. During my time in Qatar, I’ve focused on bringing unique beauty products and creative business ideas to the luxury market. I’ve learned a lot about the local beauty scene and can predict trends. I want to share my international experience and partnerships to create innovative projects, and recently in e-commerce. The target is to create skincare brands that focus on organic, healthy and effective results.

Tell us About Bronzage spa and when it was first established?

I started the Bronzage Spa & Bodyxpress Fitness Studios with a vision.

These ideas were the first of their kind in Qatar and were created to fill a gap in the market. People have really loved our services and we’ve gotten great feedback.

My inspiration comes from the mindful beauty and wellness scene in Scandinavia, where I’ve lived for 27 years. I mix this with global trends to create modern projects. Adding an Arabic touch, I bring cultural richness to our services, making them special for our customers in Qatar. Our trained staff ensures high-quality service and luxury at our Bronzage spa locations.

Bronzage Spa started in January 2015 at Lagoona Mall in Lusail. Our mission is to give clients a luxurious tanning experience that boosts their confidence and wellness. We make sure our clients get the tan they want while keeping their skin healthy. Our vision is to be the top spot for tanning and skin wellness. We want to stand out for our excellent service and innovation. We

work to set new standards and help our clients embrace their natural beauty.

What made you bring Bronzage Spa to Qatar?

So, why did I start this business in Qatar? Well, I needed to tan myself! I also noticed there weren’t many options for tanning here. The hot climate in Qatar, especially during the 6-month summer, made me think of creating a comfortable indoor tanning solution. My business idea fills a gap and offers a luxurious way for people to get their desired tan.

How many branches do you have In Qatar?

Bronzage Spa has 5 branches in Qatar now, and we plan to open another one soon. You can find us at Lagoona Mall, Mirqab Mall, Mall of Qatar, Torch Hotel, and Al Duhail. Our expansion shows that people like our tanning salons and we’re catering to different preferences.

What are the services provided at BronzBronzage spa and who is your target audiance?

We offer various services at Bronzage Spa. Our main focus is safer tanning with advanced Megasun German solarium machines. These machines give you a glowing tan while caring for your skin’s health., thanks to the light therapy such Collagen light and anti-blemish lights.

We also do lash lifting and brow laminations. These treatments enhance your eyes and eyebrows

78

without using extensions. Our goal is to make you look great while promoting natural beauty and selfcare.

Can you tell us more about the latest equiequipment used at Bronzage Spa?

Our latest addition is the P9s by Porsche Design at Lagoona Mall. This machine is a blend of art and technology, giving you a unique tanning experience. It’s a must-try! (You can find more details about our machines on our website)

Share with us the safety memeasures that you follow for the tanning machines and at Bronzage Spa.

Absolutely, safety is our top priority at Bronzage Spa. We have strict regulations and procedures in place to ensure the well-being of our clients.

Here’s an overview of the safety measures we follow for our tanning machines:

Our staff members are extensively trained on operating the tanning machines and ensuring a safe experience for our clients. They are knowledgeable about the different skin types and the appropriate tanning session durations for each type.

Before a client uses our tanning machines, we conduct a thorough skin assessment. This helps us determine the skin type, sensitivity, and any pre-existing conditions. Based on this assessment, we recommend a suitable tanning session duration and intensity to prevent overexposure.

Proper eye protection is crucial during tanning sessions. We provide clients with protective eyewear that shields their eyes from

the UV light emitted by the tanning machines. This reduces the risk of eye damage.

Our staff members closely monitor each tanning session. If a client experiences any discomfort or requests to end the session early, our staff is there to assist promptly.

What products do you offer to your clients?

We offer a range of high-quality tanning lotions and products

that are specifically designed to enhance the tanning experience while moisturizing and nourishing the skin.

These products are safe and dermatologist-tested.

How do you maintmaintain high standards of Hygiene at Bronzage Spa?

We maintain rigorous hygiene standards in our spa locations. Tanning beds are sanitized thoroughly

79

The Trendsetter

between sessions to ensure a clean environment for each client. We also provide disposable sanitary for the tanning beds to further enhance hygiene.

We educate our clients about the importance of responsible tanning. We provide information about the recommended frequency of tanning sessions and the need to avoid overexposure. Our staff is always available to answer questions and address concerns.

Tell us more on how do you maintain the tanning machines ?

Our tanning machines undergo regular maintenance to ensure they are functioning optimally and emitting the correct levels of UV light. This helps prevent uneven tanning and reduces the risk of overexposure.

What kind of consultations you offer to your clients?

We offer consultations to clients who are new to tanning or have specific skin concerns. During these consultations, we gather information about their skin type, medical

history, and any medications they may be taking. This allows us to customize the tanning experience to their individual needs. By following these safety regulations and practices, we aim to provide our clients with a comfortable and safer tanning experience that promotes both their desired glow and their skin’s health.

Tell us about the BodyXpress EMS studio ?

Certainly! Bodyxpress EMS Studio is a unique fitness concept that was the first of its kind to Open in Sheraton Hotel- Doha in 2016. EMS stands for “Electrical Muscle Stimulation,” and our studio combines this technology with guided workouts to provide an efficient and effective fitness experience. Here’s more information about Bodyxpress EMS Studio:

What is EMS?

EMS involves the use of electrical impulses to stimulate muscles, causing them to contract and work. This technology has been used in various fields, including physical therapy and sports training, to enhance muscle strength and improve overall fitness.

How Does Bodyxpress EMS Studio Work?

In our Bodyxpress EMS Studio, clients wear a specially designed EMS suit that is equipped with electrodes. These electrodes deliver low-frequency electrical impulses to target specific muscle groups. During a session, a certified trainer guides clients through a series of exercises that are tailored to their fitness goals.

What are the key Benefits?

1. Efficiency.

EMS training provides a full-body workout in a shorter amount of time compared to traditional methods. This makes it a great option for busy individuals who want to maximize their workout sessions.

2. Muscle Activation.

EMS stimulates deeper muscle fibers that are often challenging to target with conventional exercises,

80

leading to more comprehensive muscle engagement.

3.Strength and Endurance.

EMS training can help improve muscle strength, endurance, and overall fitness levels.

4.Low Impact.

The low-impact nature of EMS training is gentle on joints, making it suitable for individuals with certain physical limitations.

5. Time-Saving.

A typical EMS session is around 2030 minutes, making it an ideal option for those with limited time for exercise.

6. Customization. Trainers can adjust the intensity of the electrical impulses based on the client’s fitness level and goals.

7. Recovery.

EMS technology can also be used for recovery and rehabilitation

purposes, aiding in muscle recovery and reducing muscle soreness.

Who Can Benefit from Bodyxpress EMS Studio?

- Individuals seeking an efficient and effective workout.

- People with busy schedules who want to achieve fitness goals in a shorter time.

- Those looking to build muscle strength and endurance.

- Individuals who want to enhance their overall fitness level.

- People who prefer low-impact exercise options.

- Athletes and sports enthusiasts aiming to complement their training routine.

- Individuals recovering from injuries and seeking a gentle form of exercise.

It’s important to consult with a healthcare professional before starting any new fitness program, including EMS training.

At Bodyxpress EMS Studio, we combine innovative technology with expert guidance to offer a fitness experience that aligns with modern lifestyles. Our certified trainers ensure that clients receive safe and effective workouts tailored to their needs and goals.

What is your next business plans?

I’m thrilled to share that our upcoming plans include opening another Bronzage Spa branch in Doha. Additionally, I’m in the process of creating new beauty products and developing a skin care brand, which will be announced in the near future. Our goal is to continue providing innovative and high-quality services while expanding our offerings to cater to the evolving needs of our valued customers. Stay tuned for more updates and announcements!

EXPERT REVEALS HOW TO MAKE YOUR PERFUME LAST IN HOT WEATHER, INCLUDING PUTTING YOUR FRAGRANCES IN THE FRIDGE

Nothing is more attractive than smelling nice, and with the long hot summer days in full swing, prolonging your chosen scent at events such as weddings, graduations, and proms is essential to feeling confident.

It can be frustrating when spending lots of money on expensive perfumes for them not to last longer much more than an hour which is why perfume sample specialists at Parfumery have put together top tips on how to get the most out of your fragrances during the peak of summer - leading you to smell gorgeous all day long.

1. Put your fragrances in the fridge

You should be cautious in deciding where you store your perfumes, as many factors can cause the scent to change purely based on whether they are sat in direct sunlight and how humid the area is. Putting your perfume in the fridge is a great way to keep your perfumes at a cool temperature, therefore maintaining the aroma within the scent. It also works as a great way to enhance any fresh notes that may be in your perfume such as lemon, mint, and bergamot. If putting your fragrances in the fridge might be a step too far for you, you should still make sure to store your perfumes in a cool and dry place such as a draw or cupboard in a cooler room.

82
Beauty
All Things

Top Tip - Although your perfumes may look pretty on display, you may also be damaging the surfaces on which they are stored if any are known to leak or are easily knocked over. Check over your bottles and see if there have been any signs of leakage; if so, it might be worth changing around their home.

2. Use petroleum jelly

If you want to try something physical to aid your perfume in lasting longer, apply a small amount of petroleum jelly (Vaseline) to your skin before applying the fragrance. The jelly will lock in the scent and help it to last all day, especially if applied to pulse points.

3. Spray your hair

Use specific hair mists and scents to accompany your everyday scents. Your hair is known to hold scent extremely well, which is why so many beautifully scented hair products are on the market. To apply hair perfume or mists, it is best to flip your head over and spritz an even coating of the scent to your hair throughout the lengths and leave for a couple of seconds to allow it to dry.

Top Tip - Try spraying your hairbrush with your perfume and running it through dry hair. Avoid directly applying perfume to your hair, as the alcohol in the fragrance can cause damage to the hair.

4. Spray more than one area

By restricting your application to spraying the neck and wrists, you neglect many other areas that may hold your fragrances better throughout the day. Try spritzing other body parts, such as your belly button,

back of the knees and elbows, as these areas tend to get less sunlight and effectively sweat less. The heat can cause your perfume to evaporate quicker than when applied on cooler days, so try experimenting with applying it to different areas of the skin that are not exposed to sunlight.

5. Layer it up

You can maximise your scent in many ways when performing your everyday skincare routine. Try opting for fragranced shower gels and body creams to start off the layers, then apply your perfume and other body mists you love to top off your scent for the day. If your deodorant is part of your specific smell, you can layer these up by applying roll-on and topping off with an aerosol.

Top Tip - If you are attending a special event such as a wedding or prom, make sure you have a mini-sized perfume or spray that you can take in your bag to top up throughout the evening.

6. Match your body lotion to your perfume

Many fragrances on the market are sold alongside lotions, hand creams and shower gels in the same scent; these are a great way of maintaining the aroma throughout the day. If you apply the perfume in the morning, why not take a hand cream or lotion that is in the same scent in your bag to use during the day? This will save you money as you will not need to keep re-applying the perfume, saving you the product. Instead, you can repurchase the lotions and extras which the fragrance comes in, which are typically cheaper than the actual perfumes.

SCENTS FOR THE SEASONS: GRACE DE MONACO

Often, in summer we love brisk, fresh, uplifting citrusy scents – ones which might recall pretty summer gardens, lip-smacking fruits or vast expanses of ocean and air: these offer a cooling, energising effect. Conversely, wintertime often sees us reach for fragrances that offer a sense of comfort or sanctuary… praline or vanilla gourmands, warming orientals, or scents that might evoke an impression of smoke, fire, leather, spice or amber. Grace de Monaco fragrances are carefully crafted and curated to evoke all seasons.

84

Grace de Monaco, the world’s first luxury-for-good Maison’s signature release Promenade Sur le Rocher exemplifies the type of scent capable of carrying you from morning to evening or through all times of the year; whilst the exceptional Danse Étoilée offers the bouquet of a perpetual spring/summer which can be enjoyed and celebrated year-round. These fragrances and many others of the same ilk ensure we are smelling and feeling our best, no matter where or when we indulge.

Grace de Monaco is set up in memory of the incomparable Grace Kelly. Founded on the principles of luxury-for-good, Grace de Monaco insists on captivating all year round.

Each note in Grace De Monaco fragrance corresponds to very specific scents that represent something dedicated to Princess Grace, Monaco and the legacy she left. Grace De Monaco is exclusive with Harrods, who in February unveiled an exquisite set of windows, which shine a spotlight on the original love letters sent between Prince Rainier and Grace Kelly. 100% of profits are donated to the Princess Grace Foundation. The initial collection ranges from parfums, eau de parfums, home fragrance, silks and Twillies.

GUERLAIN CELEBRATES

WORLD LIPSTICK DAY WITH COLOURIST OCÉANE

OCÉANE, COLOURIST FOR ROUGE G

“Colour is more than a job for me; it’s my passion,” enthuses Océane Robert. Seven years after joining the quality control laboratory at Guerlain, the young woman still remembers the bright pink pigments that she saw the Maison’s colourists handling when she first visited them. “I was instantly captivated. I said to myself, ‘I want to do that.’” Whether by happenstance or by fate, a position opened up shortly afterwards. Performed by just two

individuals at Guerlain, this unique job ensures that the colours of the Maison’s cosmetics are faithful to the shade envisioned by their Creative Director, Violette. Alongside her work partner, Isabelle, Océane learned to master a form of savoirfaire that demands great perceptiveness and even more precision.

It all starts with the analysis of the exceptional pigments that arrive regularly to the production site.

This first and extremely rigorous phase helps determine the exact tone and colour strength of each one. “A red pigment will always be red, but, due to its natural origin, may present slight variations in potency or hue compared to a previous batch,” explains Océane.

Next, the more creative, extremely precise second phase consists of meticulously adjusting the various pigments to obtain the correct

90
All Things Beauty

balance, so as to “replicate the same shades time and again”.

Océane works on a number of different make-up creations, but confesses a particular fondness for the iconic lip colour that embodies the excellence and innovation cherished at Guerlain.

“The lipstick as we know it today was invented by the Maison Guerlain in 1870! This pioneering spirit

is still found in Rouge G, a sparkling treasure with its refillable, customisable case designed by jeweller Lorenz Bäumer.” Made entirely in France, the Maison’s lip colours stand as a crowning jewel of Guerlain make-up all across the world. “For me, it’s really the final touch of a polished make-up look,” explains Océane.

“It brings a woman that sense of glamour and seduction, as well as

the elegance and confidence to take on the world. And my role is to guarantee the consistency of the colours that make each product so unique.”

Proud to ensure the unwavering quality of their many shades, Océane is an essential link in the chain of trust that has always existed between the Maison and its clients.

CHALHOUB GROUP REVEALS THE FINDINGS OF THE MOST EXTENSIVE BEAUTY STUDY IN THE REGION SURVEYING 2,600 CONSUMERS: DECODING THE BEAUTY CONSUMER IN THE GCC

Chalhoub Group has released its comprehensive beauty report titled “Decoding the Beauty Consumer in the GCC.” The report offers a deep understanding of consumer behaviour, preferences, and trends within the beauty category in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Saudi Arabia (KSA), and Kuwait.

The methodology of the study included a quantitative study with 2,600 beauty consumers, a 4-day ethnography with 30 participants, and over 15 expert interviews. The report findings cover three main pillars; the definition of beauty standards in the region, consumer purchasing behaviour trends, and the top beauty categories GCC consumers are most interested in.

On Redefining Beauty in the GCC market, The report highlights a shift in beauty perception in the GCC market from European ideals to embracing Arabic beauty and Middle Eastern features. Consumers now prefer lighter cosmetic adjustments that preserve their individual beauty and focus more on “Internal Beauty,” encompassing health, wellbeing, and self-esteem, which

can influence external appearance. UAE women see themselves as trendsetters with exposure to various brands, while Saudi women are highly engaged makeup and fragrance users, drawing inspiration from social media. Kuwaiti women are particularly attentive to social media beauty trends and prioritise maintaining a hydrated and healthy skin appearance. Taking a closer look at the GCC beauty consumer purchasing behaviour, the report indicates that most beauty categories are driven by female shoppers with an average spend that is 55 per cent higher than men. While fragrance is an exception – where men tend to shop 20 per cent more frequently and spend 11 per cent more – most beauty categories are predominantly driven by female shoppers. Emirati women, in particular, exhibit a stronger preference for multi-brand beauty stores, while consumers in KSA are the highest spenders on makeup in the region.

Jasmina Banda Chief Strategy Officer at Chalhoub Group said: “Beauty market in the Middle East is worth over USD 10 Billion, and has since 2020 gone through

96

a major shift becoming today more dynamic than ever. Chalhoub Group conducted the most extensive consumer beauty study ever undertaken in the GCC. This study involved over 2600 beauty consumers from the UAE, KSA, and Kuwait and explored various segments, including mass and masstige markets, dermo-cosmetics, and prestige beauty. The objective was to decode the emerging trends and identify the contemporary definition of beauty for Middle Eastern consumers”.

“The primary finding from our study reveals that our consumers associate beauty not solely with physical appearance but also with their overall well-being and inner feelings. This has paved the way for a new generation of brands that prioritise more than just traditional product effectiveness. These brands now extend their focus to encompass the holistic well-being of their customers” added Banda.

The report also examined the top beauty categories GCC consumers are most interested in, revealing that GCC beauty consumers prefer specific products that are tailoured to their skin type rather than generalised products, with mositurizer ranked as the top product with 79 per cent having purchased this product in the

All Things Beauty

past 3 months, followed by cleanser at 54 per cent Hydration and improving skin texture are the main reasons for moisturising, while sun protection is considered essential for its wide range of benefits, with 46 per cent having purchased an spf/sunblock in the past three months.

Makeup is also viewed as an art form that helps consumers enhance their Arabic beauty features. It is associated with both functional and emotional aspects, serving as a means of self-expression, boosting confidence, and uplifting moods. Moreover, fragrance plays a pivotal role in Arab culture and is a top category by spend for both male and female consumers. Layering scents throughout the beauty routine, including shower gels, lotions, and hair mists, is a common practice.

When it comes to preferred purchasing channels, the findings show that 64 per cent of males visit supermarkets most frequently for beauty purchases versus 37 per cent of females. For UAE nationals, beauty stores account for 80 per cent of their offline spend, while in KSA, traditional retail is the main purchase channel with 46 per cent of spend share.

MONTBLANC WRITERS EDITION HOMAGE TO ROBERT LOUIS STEVENSON

Latest annual limited edition writing instrument celebrates the storytelling genius of the author of classic literary favourite “Treasure Island”

With its Writers Edition, Montblanc spotlights the creativity and artistry of the prolific writers who shaped world literature and left a lasting imprint on culture. Reflecting Montblanc’s origins in the culture of writing, each edition explores the universe of words created by the author with the design of each writing instrument revisiting unforgettable stories.

The Montblanc Writers Edition Homage to Robert Louis Stevenson pays tribute to Scottish novelist, poet and travel writer Robert Louis Stevenson (1850 – 1894), best known for his adventure novel Treasure Island and his horror story The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. Born and educated in Edinburgh, Scotland, Stevenson suffered from a severe bronchial condition for much of his life but continued to write diligently and travel widely despite his poor health. A celebrity during his lifetime, he spent several years searching for a place

that would accommodate his health issues and eventually settled in Samoa where he died at just 44 years old.

Every design detail of the four different editions that make up the collection illustrates the life and work of Robert Louis Stevenson, Treasure Island in particular. The shape of the writing instrument is inspired by the spyglass used by sailors and pirates, with the lower geometry of the cone evoking the opening of the spyglass. Each edition features an original interpretation of the skull and crossbones, universally recognized symbol for pirates around the world. The compass rose that appears throughout the collection is a nod to “Treasure Island”, the location of a legendary treasure that plays a central role in Stevenson’s most famous novel. A reference to his final years on the Pacific Island of Samoa and the affection he earned from the locals, his nickname “TUSITALA” or “teller of stories” adorns each nib in the collection.

100

Writers Edition Homage to Robert Louis Stevenson – Limited Edition

The cap and barrel of the Fountain Pen, Rollerball, Ballpoint Pen and Mechanical Pencil (part of set only) are crafted from special resin paired with a platinum-coated forepart, cone and fittings. The cap is embellished with a pattern reminiscent of a treasure chest, enhanced by a compass rose underneath the clip in a shape inspired by a belaying pin, a device used to secure ropes and lines of rigging found on ships. The pattern on the pen’s black barrel was created using multiple “X”s including one in larger scale, alluding to the usual marker for a treasure’s location on a map. A reference to the pirates in Treasure Island, the Montblanc emblem in precious resin that crowns the edition reveals an elevated skull and crossbones.

The cap top ring bears the mirror-inverted inscription UNDER THE WIDE AND STARRY SKY, the first line of the requiem Stevenson wrote for himself that can also be found on his grave, while the cap ring features the author’s signature as well as the year 1866 – the year of his first (unofficial) publication - The Pentland Rising: A Page of History, 1666. The solid Au 750 gold nib on the edition’s fountain pen is rhodium-coated and decorated with a special embossing of TUSITALA surrounded by sea waves to represent Stevenson’s voyage to Samoa surrounded by nothing but the open sea.

Writers Edition Homage to Robert Louis Stevenson – Limited Edition 1883

With a limitation number based on the year of publication of Treasure Island, the Fountain Pen and Rollerball that make up the Writers Edition Homage to Robert Louis Stevenson Limited Edition 1883 are made of metal and precious lacquer. The barrel depicts the “Hispaniola”, the three-mast ship purchased by Squire Trelawney to sail to Treasure Island. Thanks to a special mechanism, the British Red Ensign flag flying from the ship turns into the Jolly Roger when the switch is turned, symbolizing its capture by the pirates. The black precious lacquer of the barrel contrasts with the signature gold-coated cap decorated with the treasure chest pattern and compass rose.

The UNDER THE STARRY SKY lettering on the cap top ring is mirrored to emphasize the theme of duality as depicted in Stevenson’s novel The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde and in various other themes in his stories. The signature gold-coated cap ring is adorned with the author’s signature as well as the year 1871 – the year of Stevenson informed his father he would pursue a career as a writer rather than follow the family tradition of engineering. The Montblanc emblem in mother-of-pearl is framed in red lacquer, and the signature-coated solid Au 750 gold nib displays the special embossing of TUSITALA with clouds and seagulls representing the second part of Stevenson´s journey to Samoa – travelling out on the open sea seeing nothing but clouds and birds.

101

Writers Edition Homage to Robert Louis Stevenson – Limited Edition 94

The design of the Writers Edition Homage to Robert Louis Stevenson Limited Edition 94 draws inspiration from the bank note issued by the Royal Bank of Scotland to commemorate the author. The limitation number marks the year of the one pound bank note’s release in 1994. The cap and barrel are made from Ag 925 Sterling Silver surrounded by a solid Au 750 yellow gold grid enhanced with lacquer inlays. The cap tube is embellished with hand engravings of pirate tale symbols like a treasure chest, revolver and pipe alongside an inlay of Long John Silver, while the engravings on the barrel of the map of Treasure Island are paired with an inlay of his parrot Captain Flint.

The cone, forepart and fittings are made from solid Au 750 yellow gold. On the cone is the silhouette of the “Casco”, the ship on which Stevenson left North America. The cap ring features the author´s signature as well as the year 1888 – the year Stevenson and his family set sail from San Francisco on the Pacific Ocean. The solid Au 750 bi-colour gold nib is embossed with TUSITALA and a palm leaf design evoking the arrival of Stevenson to Samoa his beloved Pacific Island. The Montblanc emblem with a 3-D skull in Ag 925 sterling silver atop the fountain pen is surrounded by translucent lacquer.

Writers Edition Homage to Robert Louis Stevenson – Limited Edition 8

The solid Au 750 gold cap of the Writers Edition Homage to Robert Louis Stevenson Limited Edition 8 is 3-D hand-engraved with various decorative elements including a large skull that seems to break through the back of the cap and set with Black sapphires. Several iconic lines from Treasure Island are hand-engraved on the cap. The coin refers to the moment in the novel when the pirates find nothing but a single two guineas piece with the “MMMMDCCCX” on the coin meaning “4810”, a subtle reference to Montblanc and the height of the Mont Blanc mountain. The cap ring features Stevenson‘s signature as well as the year 1889 when he arrived at the port of Apia on the island of Upolo.

The structure of the barrel is inspired by wooden planks on which the word WALRUS is written. It is the name of Captain Flint’s ship, who hid the treasure. The barrel also features a cut-out in the shape of the Samoan island of Upolu, Stevenson’s “personal treasure” and paradise. The GPS coordinates of Stevenson’s house on the island of Upolu are hidden in the recess. While the forepart and fittings are made from solid rhodium-coated Au 750 Gold, the cone is made from mahogany wood, coloured in dark rose-red shades to resemble the giant tree under which the treasure was hidden on the island. Montblanc emblem in solid Au 750 gold is surrounded by precious lacquer. The pen’s nib in Au 750 solid gold is delicately decorated with TUSITALA framed with palm leaves.

CHEFS FROM THE TWO ENDS OF THE ANCIENT SPICE TRADE ROUTE GATHER TO INTRODUCE FUSION QATARI AND INDONESIA FOOD AT THE 2023 UBUD FOOD FESTIVAL

Two Qatari chefs were the guests of honor at this year’s Ubud Food Festival in Indonesia, brining to a close the delicious Culinary Journey portion of the Qatar-Indonesia 2023 Year of Culture. Throughout June, the chefs visited three cities from the east to the west of the Indonesian archipelago to gain a deep understanding of Indonesia’s culture through its people, the traditional food of each region and unique ingredients.

Chef Noof Al Marri, the owner of the Desert Rose Cafe at the National Museum of Qatar who is famous for her expertise in preparing traditional Qatari food, and Chef Hassan Al

Ibrahim, known as Captain Chef due to his work as a pilot and experience sampling restaurant and street food in 175 cities around the world, took part in the Culinary Journey from Jayapura (June 19-24), to Medan (June 24-27), and Bali (June 27 –July 2).The Qatari chefs have been exploring all corners of Indonesia through unique gastronomic experiences, enjoying street food, learning traditional cooking techniques by preparing home-cooked meals in locals’ homes and looking into sustainable food practices.

Sheikha Al Mayassa Bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, who launched the Years of Culture initiative in 2012,

expressed her happiness that the chefs experienced the beauty and richness of Indonesian culture through the Culinary Journey: “Food is a universal expression of culture that encapsulates the characteristics of society as well as its traditions. I sincerely hope the chefs will bring their experiences home to inspire their next recipe and share their passion for learning and experiencing new cultures with new people.”

At the start of the Culinary Journey program, the chefs from Qatar met with famous Indonesian chefs who served as guides and collaborators: Chef Charles Toto, a jungle

104

chef native to Papua who is active in preserving traditional Papuan dishes; and Chef Devina Hermawan, a former haute couture model turned chef known through her role on Master Chef Indonesia.

2023 Ubud Food Festival

Chef Devina, who makes Indonesian food using the basic ingredients of curry, made Medan’s signature Duck Curry Vermicelli at the Culinary Theater performance space during the 2023 Ubud Food Festival.

”As we come to the end of this Culinary Journey, I am happy to be able to make food whose basic ingredients are inspired by one of Chef Hassan’s most memorable dishes, which is also my favorite food since childhood,” said Chef Devina. “Medan curry has special characteristics, which makes it thinner but richer in taste than other curries that are widely used in India, the Middle East and other regions,” she explained.

Chef Hassan was excited to learn about the different cultural traditions of the locations visited during the Culinary Journey through dishes popular in each location. “Each city we visited on has a unique, warm tradition. The city of Medan epitomized a fusion of various cultures such as Malay, Chinese, Indian, Acehnese, Minang, Javanese and traditional Batak, which has similarities with Qatar, where most of the people are expats. This city also has a special curry dish, which is very easy for many people to like, can be mixed and matched and packaged according to tastes and times, which in my opinion is the right dish to be an authentic dish that can represent Indonesia on the world culinary scene,” he said.

During the Food for Thought discussion panel held at Rumah Kayu @ Taman Kuliner, Chef Noof, Chef Devina and Chef Charles explored the heritage, tradition and contemporary innovations that Qatar and Indonesia share. Attendees were invited to discuss the power of culinary traditions as a bridge between countries, in line with the essence of Qatar-Indonesia 2023 Year of Culture.

“I enjoyed this great experience and learned a lot about the culture and history of various cities in Indonesia. There are no less than 300 ethnic groups in Indonesia, each with its own customs and habits, traditions, and culture,” said Chef Noof on the sidelines of the Food for Thought event. “Indonesia is very rich with herbs and spices that form traditional recipes inspired by this sensory wealth. Recipes vary from region to region, according to the natural wealth of each area. The Javanese, for example, tend to eat sweet foods because of the abundance of sugar cane and palm sugar. But many other places like Padang, Manado, and Bali, are very keen on the use of chilies and spices,” she explained.

Taste Makers

On the last day of the Ubud Food Festival, Chef Noof and Jungle Chef Charles demonstrated their mastery of cooking traditional Qatari and Papuan snacks: Kebab Nakhe and Fish Sinole.

”Nake kebabs, which are very similar to bakwan or fried bala-bala, can be an afternoon snack that can ‎be eaten with fish sinole,” explained Chef Charles.

The choice of locations, Papua, Medan, and Bali, for the Culinary Journey series was made not only to explore a variety of culinary delights, but also to showcase Indonesia’s rich cultural traditions. “The Culinary Journey is a process of getting to know each other’s culture. When we talk about food, it’s not only about the dishes and ingredients, but also the traditions that surround its making and consumption,” said Hilmar Farid, Director General of Culture, Ministry of Education and Culture. He added that he hoped each country could strengthen bonds of understanding and explore the uniqueness and diversity of each other’s cultures through the Qatar-Indonesia 2023 Year of Culture and its programming.

GIMS QATAR: GLOBAL BRANDS AND CAR PREMIERS MAKE FOR AN UNMISSABLE INAUGURAL EVENT IN DOHA

Qatar Tourism and the Geneva International Motor Show (GIMS) are delighted to welcome 30 global automotive brands to the inaugural GIMS Qatar, held in Doha from the 5 to 14 October 2023.

Qatar, host nation of some of the world’s most high-profile sporting events, from FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ to FORMULA 1 ® QATAR AIRWAYS QATAR GRAND PRIX 2023, will see the first-ever edition of the Geneva International Motor Show taking place outside the event’s native country of Switzerland.

The strong demand from exhibitors is reflective of GIMS’ innovative, first-of-itskind event concept, which is setting new standards for trans-continental motor shows and naturally complements the marketing strategies of major OEMs and suppliers.

106

Car enthusiasts attending the show will have the opportunity to be among the first to see 10 ground-breaking new cars, which are set to be unveiled during the event. Exhibitors will cover more than 10,000 m2 within the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center (DECC). A total of five prominent external venues across the country, will provide a diverse and immersive festival experience for visitors and guests. GIMS will now begin the space allocation process following the closure of registrations at the end of June. Participating brands will be unveiled on the GIMS social media channels in the coming weeks.

Berthold Trenkel, Chief Operating Officer at Qatar Tourism, said: “With its wide selection of exceptional hotels, exciting excursions, and captivating landmarks, Qatar is the ideal location to inaugurate the first-ever GIMS to be held outside of its home country. Qatar has maintained incredible momentum since the close of the FIFA World CupTM last year, welcoming a record number of visitors and maintaining its sporting legacy through multiple global sporting events that have taken place in the first half of the year. We’re gearing up for an exciting social calendar in the months ahead and we see that Qatar is well on its way of becoming the fastest growing tourism destination in the region by 2030.”

Sandro Mesquita, CEO of the Geneva International Motor Show, said: “Excitement is building for the first edition of the Qatar show in Doha, which is now only a few months away. We’re on track to make the event the new, top-tier motor show for the Middle East, bridging the gap between the exciting automotive industries in the east and west. Qatar Tourism, GIMS and our partners are delighted with the outstanding support we have received from global brands. For us, it’s indicative of the high levels of confidence and loyalty they have in the GIMS model. One of our exhibitors has participated in every edition of the Geneva Motor Show since 1924 and is just as enthusiastic to join us in Doha.”

Starting with an exclusive opening ceremony and gala dinner on 5 October, GIMS Qatar will welcome the world’s media on 6 October, before opening to the public from October 7 to 14. The event has been staged to coincide with the FORMULA 1 ® QATAR AIRWAYS QATAR GRAND PRIX 2023, also being held in Doha from 6 to 8 October. The full GIMS Qatar programme of events will be unveiled soon. Activities will include a Forum for the Future of car design, held at the National Museum of Qatar. There will also be offroad adventure experiences at Sealine Desert, ride and drives at the Lusail International Circuit and the chance to visit a ‘best of the best’ gallery of classic automobiles.

Qatar holds a strong and growing track record of hosting major events and conferences. Earlier this year, Qatar Tourism hosted the 9th Annual Destination Wedding Planners Congress in March, the world’s biggest B2B event for destination weddings. In addition, the Doha Jewellery and Watches Exhibition, the only B2B and B2C event of its kind in the region and which saw the participation of more than 500 local, regional and international brands, took place in February at the DECC, the very venue where GIMS Qatar will be taking place.

With state-of-the-art facilities, an award-winning national carrier and airport, seamless public transportation networks, open tourism visa policies and a strategic central location, Qatar is quickly emerging as a prime destination for major global events.

RECORD SET IN QATAR FOR WORLD’S LONGEST LED SLACKLINE WALK

Globally renowned Red Bull athlete Jaan Roose has completed the world’s longest LED-lit, single-building slackline to cross one of Qatar’s newest and most iconic architectural landmarks.

The Estonian national and threetime Slackline World Champion defied the odds by achieving the walk, titled “Sparkline,” at the first attempt, walking the distance between the scimitar-shaped, Iconic Towers that are owned by Katara Hospitality and that are home to

Covering a distance of over 150 meters, the Sparkline walk is not only the longest on a single building, but also Jaan’s highest urban walk to date at an elevation of more than 185 meters on a line just 2.5cm wide.

Speaking on the new world record set, Roose commented: “When I first saw the Iconic Towers, I knew this was a building that I had to walk. Anything worth achieving

comes with its fair share of challenges, and I’m proud to complete this one. Per metre walked, this line was my toughest ever. As an athlete, I’m always looking to push myself further and defy the odds. In this case the heat and wind conditions added a different element that I needed to react to and manage spontaneously while I was on the slackline. The warm LED lights and their extra weight also changed how the line interacted with me and my bodyweight. It’s like skateboarding on a big heavy tree trunk rather than a light board.”

Raffles and Fairmont Doha in Lusail City.

“The Iconic Towers are an incredible place to be completing this feat and mark a very special visit for my first time in Qatar,” Roose added.

The Raffles Doha and Fairmont Doha are two luxury hotels that face each other in beautifully imposing structures shaped like scimitar swords. The towers are some of the latest to be added to Lusail City’s expanding list of architectural marvels and create a distinct silhouette against the backdrop of the Arabian Sea. Featuring the world’s tallest chandelier, the Fairmont Doha is a masterclass in design, while the suite-only Raffles Doha showcases a spell-binding entrance, a personal butler service and fine-dining delights by world-renowned chef, Enrico Crippa.

Managing Director of Raffles and Fairmont Doha, Christian Hirt, expressed his excitement about the event being hosted at the Iconic Towers, saying “Raffles and Fairmont Doha have always celebrated the extraordinary, and this event embodies that spirit. The project serves to underline our commitment to showcasing high-calibre talents that defy the impossible. As this daring athlete ‘Sparklines’ across our towers, we hope it captivates the world and inspires others to push their boundaries.”

Katara Hospitality’s leadership commented: “We are proud of this activation, working alongside

Qatar Tourism and Red Bull, as it exemplifies Katara Hospitality’s commitment to utilizing the Iconic Towers as a powerful asset to promote tourism and enhance the destination’s appeal. Through this event, we aim to showcase the extraordinary capabilities of the Iconic Towers and position them as a symbol of Qatar’s excellence in hospitality and entertainment.”

Commenting on the project with Jaan Roose, Chief Operating Officer

of Qatar Tourism, Berthold Trenkel, said: “Qatar has built a sporting legacy for itself and is now a true hub for international sporting events. We’re delighted to support the exhilarating slackline walk event and champion renowned athletes. By fostering a culture of athleticism, we strive to create opportunities for athletes to showcase their skills and reach new heights in their athletic careers. In addition to its world-class sporting facilities, Qatar is home to a fresh

and diverse suite of incredible hotels that make Qatar a global destination of choice for all travellers.” The Sparkline walk took place as part of an action-packed calendar of global events in Qatar. With several key sporting events expected to take place in 2023, including Qatar MotoGP, AFC Asian Cup, Qatar Formula 1 Grand Prix, and Geneva International Motor Show, visitors can expect extraordinary sporting experiences in Qatar all year round.
