1/2 cup sliced almonds

Almandine

4 tablespoons butter, melted

4 (6-ounce) pompano fillets

2 teaspoons cayenne pepper

sea salt to taste

ground black pepper to taste

1 cup rice flour

1/2 cup butter

1/4 cup lemon juice

1/4 cup flat leaf parsley, chopped

Directions:

Heat oven to 375 degrees F. Place sliced almonds and 4 tablespoons butter in ovenproof dish; roast for 7 minutes or until golden.

Remove from oven and set aside.

Sprinkle fillets with seasonings then dredge in flour. Melt 1/2 cup butter in shallow skillet over medium-high heat; add fillets and cook 3-5 minutes per side until cooked through.

Remove fillets from pan and keep warm.

Add toasted almonds, lemon juice and parsley to butter in the skillet; mix well then spoon over cooked fillets.

Iconic Pink Shell Resort Marina Reopens after Hurricane Ian

When Category 5 Hurricane Ian tore through Fort Myers, Florida, in September of 2022, it destroyed numerous marinas, including Pink Shell Beach Resort & Marina. The first in the area to begin rebuilding, the resort’s bayside docks are back in operation and better than ever, with a state-of-the-art Golden Marine Systems floating aluminumdock array.

Ian’s 19’ storm surge damaged the first and second floors of thePink Shellhotel but didn’t affect the building’s overall structural integrity. Resort owner Boykin Management Co.quickly turned the facility intoemergency housing for relief workers, contractors and displaced residents. Oncehotel remediation was underway, the focus quickly turned to rebuilding the obliterated marina.

Certified by DQS Inc. to ISO 9001:2015 standards, Golden’s Fort Myers production facility suffered damage but was able to quickly begin building the replacement docks. “Special thanks goes to Mike Shanley and the Golden production crew for their dedication, which facilitated the transformation of our space into a fully operational marina within 14 months, just in time for the season,” said David O’Connor, Pink Shell Marina dock master. “Their commitment to our project was much appreciated.”

Tish Dawson has joined Pelican Isle Yacht Club’s Management Team as the new Club Controller. Tish joins PIYC with over 20 years of diverse finance and accounting experience. She began her career in automotive glass manufacturing in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, after she earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Juniata College. Tish then worked in Optical Products and Coatings for several years and earned her MBA from the University of Pittsburgh, Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business. She and her husband and son moved to Los Angeles in 2011 for an opportunity in Aerospace and to experience life on the West Coast. Tish then transitioned to the software industry after relocating to Naples in 2016. She is excited to bring her leadership and commitment to customer service at PIYC. Aside from work, Tish enjoys spending time with her family, playing with her dog, kayaking, and going to the beach.

A VESSEL SAFETY CHECK - STUART - Despite numerous COVID-19 restrictions, more and more boaters are taking to the water to alleviate at-home boredom while taking advantage of the open-air benefits and more pandemicfree aspects of recreational boating. SARASOTA FLOTILLA 82 OF THE USCG AUXILIARY Florida law requires that any person born on or after Jan. 1, 1988, may not operate a vessel powered by a motor of 10 horsepower or greater unless such person has in his or her possession, aboard the vessel, photographic identification, a Florida boater safety identification card (or any other state’s boating card), and the registration for their vessel. Regarding the above law, which has been in effect for over a year, Flotilla 82 of the USCG Auxiliary, based in Sarasota, Florida (at Mote Marine) offers a 1-day course held on the last Saturday of each month. It starts at 9:00 am and completes at 5:00 pm. The course includes the USCG exam which, if passed, results in a Florida lifetime boating card/license. Southwest Coast West Central Florida

Guests aboard our fishing charters have been experiencing great fishing and great weather the last few weeks overall. We are still having a cold front every week or two come through and stir things up but we are getting into summer time slowly as the month of May approaches.

Summer is a great season to fish Tampa Bay and the beaches of Anna Maria Island. We mainly are targeting snook, seatrout, redfish, tarpon, mangrove snapper, and Spanish mackerel. Summer time also is good action for shark fishing. The predominant species of sharks that we encounter are blacktip, sandbar, and lemon sharks.

The last 3 weeks the king mackerel have been a good fish to target on our fishing charters when the weather allows get out into the Gulf of Mexico. Just a couple miles off the beaches of Anna Maria Island at some of the artificial reefs and sunken boat wrecks we are able to target the king

mackerel “kingfish”. Along with the kingfish we are seeing good numbers of Spanish mackerel, bonita, and some cobias and sharks. This provides great action and all of these fish put up an awesome battle on light tackle for our guests aboard our fishing charters. As the water temperature continues to warm the kingfish will push north out of our region and we will start to focus more on the mangrove snappers and the elusive permit in the Gulf of Mexico.

Tarpon have shown up in good numbers and the migratory fish should be here any day now as we are on the backside of a full moon coming in to the month of May. There are fish in Tampa Bay that have been cooperative for some anglers but the last week or so with gin clear water and being around a full moon made for some very tough fishing. Once the migratory fish are here in full force is when fishing along the beaches will become effective and one of the coolest ways to fish for them.

The snook fishing is getting better by the day as the fish make their way to their summertime haunts out at the beaches and major passes adjacent to the beaches. Snook spawn mainly during

the summertime so the season is closed May, June, July, and August. We practice catch and release when targeting these fish in the summertime, they put up a great fight and there is a great chance for a trophy sized snook that can reach upwards of 40” long and 15-20+ lbs. mangrove snapper will start to be a good target in the next few weeks and through the entire summer with warmer water temperatures for some good table fare for a meal or two.

Now that the sun climbs higher and the days have grown longer, the waters of west central Florida have warmed to the upper 70s, signaling a resurgence of activity among the region’s prized game fish. Cold fronts have remained a persistent feature, injecting variability into the fishing equation. However, their spacing has allowed for a gradual rise in water temperatures, now hovering comfortably in the 70s. This subtle but significant change has set the stage for a flurry of activity among our targeted species.

April and May herald the migration of snook from their deep, temperaturestable hideouts to shallower waters, foreshadowing their summer haunts. This transition has presented ample opportunities for anglers as these prized gamefish venture closer to the shorelines and estuaries. Whether prowling the mangrove edges or lurking around structure, snook have been receptive to well-placed presentations.

The use of large Enrico Puglisi flies is a favored tactic for targeting snook, especially in the spring. Additionally, large soft plastics are

a formidable option, especially on cloudy or windy days.

Redfish have proven to be particularly showing a keen appetite for offerings imitating shrimp, especially around the full moons. During new and full moon phases, we experience negative low tides during the winter and into the spring. These extreme low tides compel redfish to seek refuge in deeper waters, where they congregate in anticipation of the changing tide.As the water levels drop, redfish may become more elusive, staging in deeper channels, holes, and along drop-offs. Morning low tides provide the best opportunity to sight fish and as the water floods into shallower areas, redfish may become more active, and astute anglers may catch them tailing as they feed along the edges of flats and grassy areas.

The full moon in March signaled the commencement of the spotted seatrout spawning season, marking a significant event in the angling calendar. While the peak of the spawn has passed, residual activity continues

to provide opportunities for eager anglers. Focusing on grassy flats, sandy drop-offs, and channels has proven effective in locating schools of speckled trout. Clouser minnows are a top choice among fly enthusiasts, while soft plastic jerk baits rigged on quarter or eighth ounce jig heads have proven irresistible for light tackle anglers.

Spring bass fishing on Lake Toho here in Central Florida is one of the most productive times for catching good numbers of bass as well as the trophy bass of a lifetime. The reliability of bass fishing on Lake Toho at this time of year is due mainly to the weather becoming very stable and in turn the bass fishing is also very stable and productive at this time of year.

AJ’s Bass Guides has been in operation since 1970 and holds the lake record of 16 pounds 10 ounces which was caught by Ed Chancy the founder of AJ’s Bass Guides in the month of May in 1977 on a black grape paddle tail plastic worm. Captain Jamie Jackson caught the second largest bass out of Lake Toho weighing 15 pounds 8 ounces also in the month of May in 1987 on a rattletrap during the 1987 drawdown.

as artificial lures. If it is artificial lures that you are interested in, springtime is what we consider the best time of year for fishing artificials on Lake Toho. It is not uncommon to catch a 5 bass limit weighing over 30 pounds on artificials at this time of year.

2023 was one of the best years that we have seen for catching trophysized Lake Toho Florida bass in a very long time. As we move into the spring months this year, this type of fishing will continue and the outlook for this spring may be the best that we have seen yet for catching a Lake Toho trophy.

Also 2023 was one of the busiest years that we have ever experienced in the 53 years that we have been in operation and we anticipate 2024 to be just as busy! Even though we have 9 fulltime captains working for us, we recommend reserving your date as early as possible while we still have one of our professional full-time

Happy Mothers Day! May offers great fishing for the Jupiter and Palm beach area. Local waters are teaming with a plethora of species, anglers can expect plenty of rod bending action.

Snook fishing heats up, snook start to migrate to local passes and beaches for up coming spawn. The snook can be seen cruising near sea walls and docks in search of food. Live baits and DOA C.A.L. 3” shad tail on a 1/8 ounce jig head casted in there vicinity will get your drag screaming. Bait schools will be in our local area and this is the time for top water action. Rapala skitter walks worked over open flats and near heavy structure causes for some explosive action. If you have never experienced top water action for snook, I recommend you try there is nothing like it. The snook will range in size from 5 to 20 pounds. Tarpon “silver king” a great target for anglers looking for explosive strikes and acrobatic jumps. Tarpon can be found in the ICW, local inlets and beaches. Live baits like mullet or pinfish work great. Artificial baits like the DOA Terror Eyz and DOA C.A.L. 3” shad tail in Pearl and melon back will get the drag screaming.

The inshore waters will also be teaming with jacks, sharks, ladyfish, snapper, and many

other species, putting a bend in the rod. Live bait, freelined with the tide or Rapala x wrap will get the strike.

April has come to an end, but with it, it brought warm weather, moderate winds, clean water near inlets and drag screaming action.

Snook fishing has been great along docks and seawalls mangrove shorelines as well. Channels and bridges are starting to hold snook as they school up getting ready for summertime patterns and spawning. Live bait, DOA terror eyz and rapala x raps, have been the bait of choice.

Jack crevalle have been abundant throughout the inter coastal and back bays. Schooling fish are crashing bait schools along docks and sea walls. Deep holes and troughs are holding fish as well. Live baits freelined with the tide produce strikes. Top water Rapala skitter walks get the jacks happy as well.

When tides are right deep holes and docks hold a mix bag of species. Black drum snapper, snook, jacks, mackerel and many other species struke DOA C.A.L. 3” shad tail and shrimp worked near the bottom. Clean water provides

better bite, so watching wind direction and water run off is key to success. Well that is the fishing report for the last week hope you all enjoyed.
