(NYSE: HZO), the world’s largest recreational boat and yacht retailer, today announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Island Global Yachting LLC (“IGY Marinas”), which owns and operates a collection of iconic marina assets and a yacht management platform in key global yachting destinations. MarineMax will acquire IGY Marinas for $480 million in cash, with an additional potential earnout of up to $100 million two years after closing, subject to the achievement of defined performance metrics. IGY Marinas, through recent acquisitions and organic growth, is projected to generate over $100 million of revenue in calendar 2022. Subject to the satisfaction of customary closing conditions, MarineMax expects the acquisition to close in the first half of fiscal 2023 and to be accretive within the first twelve months of closing. IGY Marinas will maintain its luxury branding that is well recognized as best-in-class in the global marina and superyacht communities. A VESSEL SAFETY CHECK - STUART - Despite numerous COVID-19 restrictions, more and more boaters are taking to the water to alleviate at-home boredom while taking advantage of the open-air benefits and more pandemic-free aspects of recreational boating. But if you haven’t been out boating in a while, are your vessel’s lights operating properly? Do you have a sufficient number of life jackets for the number of passengers aboard? Is your engine’s ventilation system up to par? To get you started on a new year boating adventure, now may be a perfect time to consider getting a 2022 Vessel Safety Check (VSC) offered by certified VSC examiners from the St. Lucie River Power Squadron, also known as America’s Boating Club of Martin County. These trained VSC examiners from the local squadron will point out safety features such as minimum requirements required by the U.S. Coast Guard, examine fundamental mechanical aspects of your vessel, and answer questions how you can have more fun safely on the water. These are just a few of the many discussion points covered in this voluntary examination. As an added plus, Vessel Safety Checks are free to boat owners. SARASOTA FLOTILLA 82 OF THE USCG AUXILIARY Florida law requires that any person born on or after Jan. 1, 1988, may not operate a vessel powered by a motor of 10 horsepower or greater unless such person has in his or her possession, aboard the vessel, photographic identification, a Florida boater safety identification card (or any other state’s boating card), and the registration for their vessel. Regarding the above law, which has been in effect for over a year, Flotilla 82 of the USCG Auxiliary, based in Sarasota, Florida (at Mote Marine) offers a 1-day course held on the last Saturday of each month. It starts at 9:00 am and completes at 5:00 pm. The course includes the USCG exam which, if passed, results in a Florida lifetime boating card/license. No citations are issued, and the results of the safety check are not reported to any enforcement agency, but a decal is awarded to display when the vessel has passed the examination. Classes are $40 per student and include the books, supplemental materials and course completion certificates. The classes being offered by the Clearwater Coast Guard Auxiliary are conducted on Zoom with the same instructors the student would have had in the classroom and allowing lots of questions and answers. In addition, because the classes are on the Internet, there’s no commuting to a classroom – the students can be anywhere in Florida! The boating safety class is also a requirement for many boaters in Florida. In the Sunshine State, anyone born after Jan. 1, 1988, must successfully complete a boater safety course approved by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) in order to operate any boat powered by more than 10 horsepower, and they are required to carry their boater education card with them when out on the water along with picture ID. Minnow, should all work well. The same lures and flies that work at night will be good for fishing the surf, too.
You should also find tripletail along with cobia, false albacore (little tunny) and Spanish mackerel in the coastal gulf this month. Look for surface activity to find the mackerel and albies and cast small white flies or CAL jigs with shad tails to them. I don’t usually target kings but will occasionally catch one around the edges of a feeding frenzy. Look for feeding frenzies that begin with ladyfish feeding in glass minnow schools and may end with everything else, including sharks or tarpon, joining the fray. Remember to “match the hatch” to be successful. You may need to add wire to your leader when toothy fish are around.

Tarpon will still be a good option this month. There may still be a few singles, doubles and small schools in the coastal gulf and if you’ve got the patience to wait them out it can be good. Many have moved to inside waters this month, so you’ll find them around bridges, over deep grass flats or deeper areas. When tarpon move into these areas, they are in a feeding mode. After a long migration and with their spawning duties completed, they need to rest and eat to restore themselves. Ladyfish will feed in glass minnow schools and tarpon will gorge themselves on ladyfish. I have also seen tarpon, “ball” glass minnows into tight schools, and eat them by the bucket full! DOA Baitbusters, TerrorEyz and DOA Shrimp are my favorite tarpon lures this time of year. Fly anglers should score with wide profile patterns, such as Lefty’s Deceiver or EP flies. Small flies, like my Grassett Snook Minnow, tied on a 1/0 or 2/0 hook, are another good choice for tarpon that are feeding on glass minnows.

September is one of my favorite months. Reds should be schooling on shallow grass flats and you also might find big trout there at first light. Baitfish along beaches will attract Spanish mackerel, false albacore (little tunny), sharks, tarpon and more. You should find snook around docks and bridges in the ICW. There should also be tarpon around bridges at night and in areas of Tampa Bay and Charlotte Harbor. Juvenile tarpon from 10 to 30-pounds should be a good option in creeks and canals.

fished on a clear intermediate sink tip. In addition to making a series of drifts to find fish, focus on bait schools, breaking fish or diving birds to find fish. You may find tripletail on buoys, crab trap floats or channel markers in Sarasota Bay this month. A DOA Shrimp, CAL jig or a lightly weighted fly with a weed guard should get the job done.

Reds are usually in large schools in September. You may find them in shallow water when the tide is high or along the edges of flats when the tide is low. Look for wakes, some as big as boat wakes, or “pushes” to locate them. If it is calm, a school of reds may look like a nervous patch of water or if there’s a ripple on the surface, the school may appear as a slick patch of water. Once you’ve located them, try to get in front of them and work around the edges of the school to avoid spooking the whole school. DOA PT-7 top water baits, shallow running DOA Baitbusters and CAL 3” & 4” shad tails should work well for spin anglers. Fly anglers should score with fly poppers, Gurglers and wide profile baitfish fly patterns. I like to be as quiet as possible in shallow water, using a push pole to move my boat. It is great to find a big school of reds but remember, if you spook one fish you may spook the whole school. Running an outboard may make fish show themselves, but in the long run it will make them harder to catch. I sometimes also find big jacks and blues mixed with schools of big reds in shallow water. Not a bad problem!

Spotted trout fishing should also be good this month. Regulations have changed with a 3 fish per person, bag limit and a 6 fish boat limit. Trout must be from 15”-19” with one allowed per vessel over 19”. Full regulations and details on trout and other species can be viewed at https://myfwc.com/ . Look for big trout in skinny water in many of the same places that you find reds this month. They will be most active in low light, either first thing in the morning or at dusk, particularly if we’ve had an afternoon shower. Cloud cover in the afternoon will also reduce heating of shallow flats, which usually makes fish more active. The same lures and flies that you use for reds will work well for big trout in shallow water

You should find snook this month around docks and bridges close to passes. They will also start making their move towards shallow flats where you might find them staging along sand bars or in potholes. Surface walking top water plugs or fly popper and Gurglers may draw some big strikes in shallow water early in the day. I often fish lighted docks and bridges for snook before dawn before moving to the flats after
While you are looking for mackerel and albies in the coastal gulf, you can look for tripletail and cobia. However since stone crab traps haven’t hit the water yet this season, there are less places for them to be. In addition to abandoned crab trap floats, check channel markers, buoys and any floating debris. Artificial reefs are another good area to check. A DOA Baitbuster, 4” CAL shad tail or a wide profile fly should be good choices for cobia. Most tarpon flies also work well for cobia.
There are lots of options this month, but the key is usually to fish early or late for the best chance at success. An early start for snook or tarpon around lighted docks or bridges and then on to the flats for reds, trout and more is a good plan. There should also be good action in the coastal gulf for a variety of species. I usually tarpon fish as long as I can, wherever I find them! Our natural resources are under constant pressure from red tides fueled by residential, agricultural and industrial runoff, toxic spills and discharges, freezes, increasing fishing pressure and habitat loss and degradation, please limit your kill, don’t kill your limit!

Phil is a repeat client and today he brought his wife Sherry and their 6 year old fishing phenom Elliott. Phil wanted Elliott to get his first bonefish and the same for Sherry so we went to work. Conditions weren’t great with it being windier than usual. Actually, all summer long it has been windier than usual but the fish still have to eat.
September this year is bringing as expected it’s fair amount of rain. Usually quick passing showers but there are and will continue to be our nation leading thunder and lightning storms. Most of these thankfully pass by quickly, and when offshore we can steer around many, but not all of Offshorethem.Mahi-Mahi and Swordfish will be target species. The MahiMahi bite has been essentially good for at least 3 weeks now. Best in several years to be sure, but in MahiMahi fishing there are days when they will prove elusive if current edges don’t form, leaving it as a real hunt and

today being a prime example. I had regular client Kivi on board with his friend Paul who has never fished before and we talked about trying to bonefish for a while. Once again the conditions were breezy for being summer but I’ve been working around that just fine. I took the guys to the first spot that proved to be dead so we moved to spot #2. Not long after I hear Paul’s reel sing and the rod is bent, I have no doubt what it is. A nice fight, some coaching and help from Kivi and I and Paul had his first bonefish on his first fishing trip ever. What??!! Yes, it’s been that good. A bit later Kivi got his first bonefish and now I can sleep at night. We wrapped up the trip catching snappers and fun yellow jacks rounding out a nice Sunday morning.

This is getting ridiculous! Okay, let me preface my next comment by saying I am NOT complaining. Ok, with that out of the way, this summer has been
practically on the sand to the middle of the Gulfstream, who’s western edge this morning was @ 19
fishing for Snapper and Golden and Gray Tilefish can be steady and with nice sized fish. There are Jacks and an occasional Grouper as well. Night snapper fishing can be very good but the September near shore Sharks,often Bulls and Lemons, will get their share. That can work for you if you want to tangle with one of them. At times the Sharks will be getting way too many hooked Snappers.
And here it is already September. September is actually a pretty good month to fish here and fishing in Fort Lauderdale this month will reward anglers big and small with some good catches.

Fishing only two spots is all we needed to do but it took some patience. Spot one Phil landed a permit within the first 30-40 minutes and then it was crickets. After investing some time in that spot something told me to move. Arriving at the second spot it was slow at first but then it popped. Just like that bonefish started to swim through allowing Sherry to get her first bonefish, about a 10 pounder. Then hooked on and handed the rod to Elliott who did a great job fighting and landing his first bonefish, also about 10 pounds. Then Phil hooked up again and landed a 10 pounder and we ended the trip with Phil landing yet another one but this one was about 12lbs. As the fish was in the landing net in the water it somehow swam out before we could get a really good picture of it but heck, we landed him and that’s what counts.
This morning I had Kathy, Charles and their 10 year old grandson Jack. They are from N.J. and Jack will be in fish camp in a few weeks so Kathy wanted to get him fishing and ready for camp back home. This was a cool 4 hour trip where we targeted sharks first and it was much slower than I would have liked but Jack got his shark plus a few more bites we missed as the sharks were acting weird. Once done with the sharks we fished a channel bouncing jigs and shrimp as time ran out and Jack caught the 8 fish grandma had promised. We made it back late to the ramp but it was well worth it.
