WE LOVE ANIMALS!
MITZVAH DAY SUNDAY APRIL 7,2019
11
ALICE YEE I was incredibly amazed by the number of volunteers that showed up. I thought it was just a small event; however, over 100 volunteers popped out to help out our community. At first, I was not comfortable with the activity that I got assigned: Sean Casey Animal Rescue Shelter. My job was to walk dogs, which was my number one fear. I was too nervous to say anything, so I just went with the flow and I did not want to be separated from my friend. As we got closer and closer to the shelter, the more horrified I got. It was due to the fact that I have never walked a dog before and it was something that I was not excited about. As the staff of the shelter brought out our puppy, my heart melted. It was the cutest little thing I have ever seen. This was not the same feeling as before. I was filled with joy and I did not expect this. We walked the dog for about an hour and I felt that the experience helped me conquer my fear. Not only that, I met a few new friends that were from other schools. I have to say, this was a fun and precious experience.

4TH ANNUAL THIRST GALA

THE 9TH ANNUAL THIRST GALA FUNDRAISING EVENT WAS A HUMBLING EXPERIENCE TO ATTEND. IT WAS GREAT TO MEET THE CEO OF THE NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION; SETH MAXWELL WHO FLEW ALL THE WAY FROM LOS ANGELES. IN ADDITION, THERE WERE ADDITIONAL STUDENT SPEAKERS AND GUEST SPEAKERS WHO DELIVERED AN ENLIGHTENING KEYNOTE AND TALKED MORE IN-DEPTH ABOUT THE WATER CRISIS IN THE UNDERPRIVILEGED PARTS OF AFRICA. THERE WERE FUN EVENTS SUCH AS RAFFLES FOR PRIZES AND THE WATER WALK, IN WHICH STUDENTS HAD A TASTE OF WHAT CARRYING A JERRY CAN FEEL LIKE OVER A SHORT DISTANCE AS COMPARED TO KIDS AND WOMEN IN AFRICA THAT CARRY JERRY CANS THAT WEIGH 44 POUNDS OVER 3.75 MILES, WHICH IS AN INCREDIBLY PHYSICALLY DEMANDING TASK. THE EVENT CONCLUDED WITH A POWERFUL STATEMENT TO KEEP IN MIND.
"We know that STUDENTS will change the world! Students are not afraid to dream, and we are only limited by what society tells us." LINDA ZHANG THIS YEAR WAS THE SECOND TIME I ATTENDED THE THIRST GALA. THE EVENT WAS A HUMBLING EXPERIENCE BECAUSE PEOPLE GATHERED AROUND TO SUPPORT A GOOD CAUSE. DURING DINNER, THERE WAS A MIRACLE MINUTE AND PEOPLE WERE RUSHING TO GIVE MONEY. IT WAS HEARTWARMING TO WATCH HOW MANY PEOPLE PARTICIPATED IN A MIRACLE MINUTE. THERE WERE ALSO OTHER ACTIVITIES SUCH AS THE RAFFLE FOR PRIZES AND WATER WALK. WE WATCHED A VIDEO THAT SHOWED THE PROCESS OF HOW THE MONEY DONATED PROVIDES CLEAN DRINKING WATER TO PEOPLE IN NEED. CLEAN WATER MAY BE ACCESSIBLE TO US BUT IT IS VALUABLE AND RARE FOR PEOPLE IN THIRD WORLD COUNTRIES.

FORT GREENE CLEAN UP FRIDAY APRIL 12, 2019
15
TANISA USHA I WAS VERY EXCITED TO VOLUNTEER AT FORT GREEN PARK. THIS WAS MY FIRST EVENT AND IT WAS REALLY FUN BUT ALSO A LOT OF HARD WORK. WE WORKED WITH OTHER VOLUNTEERS TO CREAT "DONUT" SHAPED MULCH AROUND TREES TO HELP IT GROW AND PROTECT IT FROM LAWNMOWERS. THE WORK WAS TOUGH AND MY ENTIRE BODY WAS SORE BUT I WAS VERY HAPPY AND PROUD OF MYSELF BECAUSE I KNOW THE WORK I DID WAS ONE STEP IN HELPING THE WORLD.

PROJECT GLAM
APRIL 14, 2019
17
Attending the Project Glam event was a wholesome experience to say the least. The members and I arrived to help in several different stations that were decorated with eclectic pieces of jewelry and dresses to choose from. With other volunteers ranging from a teenager to an adult, we created a benevolent and vibrant environment for every girl to feel comfortable in. Afterwards, we organized the leftover materials for the next year in a methodical fashion. This event was not only hosting a charitable act of kindness but also a lovely and gratifying one to be attended next year with the same enthusiasm. CHRISTINA TRAN

APRIL DIVISIONAL TUESDAY APRIL 16, 2019
19
The April divisional was our new LTG first divisional. Not only that, our LTG announced her new executive assistants, Ryan and myself. Throughout the divisional we talked about past events every school had and possible future events . Also, we played an icebreaker called soul mate. Overall, this was one of my favorite divisional I had all year. ABBY BORSHCHENKO
Note: Soulmate is an activity where a person is being asked a series of questions . If the people in the crowd agree with her answer they stay standing, otherwise, they sit down. The questions are usually phrased in a would you rather format. For example, would you rather have Dunkin' Donuts or Starbucks. This is done until only one person (their soul mate) is left standing.

Avengers: Endgame. Wow. Just... wow. I don't even know where to start. I'm a huge nerd and a big fan of Marvel. So, when Endgame came out, I was psyched to watch it. I expected a lot of people to attend the event, especially since they were fundraising for the Thirst Project as well, but I was still surprised. The number of people that came out to fundraise (and watch Endgame) was insane. The front of the theater was packed with all kinds of people. This was an amazing experience and one I'll probably never forget.
JENNY LEI
I went to the Avengers Endgame Fundraiser with my little sister and it was extremely fun. There were huge crowds of Key Clubbers from different schools waiting to buy tickets and we, Key Clubbers basically filled all the seats in the theater room. Originally, we bought tickets that had us seated all the way in the back, but my little sister realized that we weren’t seated together and demanded that we will get another set of tickets. Even if it wasn’t allowed, it was too hectic for the people handing out the tickets to really care. We wounded up in the very middle of the theater room! We felt extremely lucky! We had cried a few times throughout the movie and thankfully we weren’t the only ones. There was one time when I heard a person sobbing. Nevertheless, it was a fun experience and we enjoyed it very much.

DESIGN O N A DIM E
23
DESIGN ON A DIME WAS ONE OF THE FUNNEST EVENTS I’VE BEEN TO THIS YEAR BECAUSE IT WAS VERY EXCITING AND DIFFERENT. WE GOT THE OPPORTUNITY TO HELP SELL FURNITURE WHILE SUPPORTING THE CRISIS OF HIV AND AIDS. IN ADDITION, AT THE END WE HELPED PUT EVERYTHING AWAY FOR NEXT YEAR. I WAS VERY THRILLED THAT I ATTENDED THIS EVENT BECAUSE ALTHOUGH NOT MANY PEOPLE CAME, I BECAME CLOSER TO THOSE WHO DID. IT WAS A GREAT WAY FOR ME TO SOCIALIZE AND HAVE FUN WHILE HELPING OTHERS.

MARCH OF DIMES SUNDAY APRIL 28, 2019
25
AS MY FIRST YEAR AT MIDWOOD, JOINING CLUBS AND GOING TO EVENTS WERE NERVE WRACKING. I DIDN'T HAVE ANY FRIENDS WHO WERE GOING TO EVENTS WHICH MADE IT HARD TO FIND MOTIVATION TO GO. I EVENTUALLY DID GO TO THE MARCH OF DIMES WALK FOR KEY CLUB. WHEN I WENT THE ENVIRONMENT WAS A LOT MORE RELAXED AND FUN THAN EXPECTED, EVERYONE WAS REALLY ENERGETIC. IT WAS FUN WALKING WITH A LARGE GROUP OF PEOPLE FOR A GOOD CAUSE. THE ATMOSPHERE WAS LIGHT AND HIGH SPIRITED, THERE WAS NO PRESSURE FROM ANYTHING. THE WHOLE EXPERIENCE WAS WORTH IT, HAVING A CHANCE TO MEET NEW PEOPLE AS WELL AS DO SOMETHING FOR A GOOD CAUSE IS SOMETHING THAT I PLAN TO CONTINUE DOING.
