CPR EVENT AT THE FEDERATION OF AMERICAN ITALIANS ORGANIZATION
SATURDAY, MAY 4
11
CPR IS A VERY IMPORTANT SKILL THAT EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW IN THE CASE OF AN EMERGENCY. THE CPR EVENT WAS VERY HELPFUL AND INFORMATIVE FOR THOSE WHO SOUGHT TO LEARN ABOUT IT. I HAD AN AMAZING TIME BECAUSE IT WAS VERY INTERACTIVE AND I WAS ABLE TO PERFORM CPR ON THE MANIKINS. I LEARNED HOW TO PERFORM CPR ON BOTH ADULTS AND INFANTS. IN ADDITION, THERE WERE ADULTS WHO WERE CPR CERTIFIED WHO HELPED US ALONG THE WAY WITH ANY QUESTIONS THAT WE HAD. AT THE EVENT, WE ALSO LEARNED WHAT TO DO IN THE CASE OF CHOKING. FURTHERMORE, WE GOT TO PRACTICE USING REPLICA AED MACHINES. ALL OF THESE ACTIVITIES ARE BENEFICIAL TO KNOW AND I AM HAPPY THAT I GOT THE CHANCE TO ATTEND THIS EVENT THROUGH KEY CLUB. THE EVENT WAS ALSO A GOOD WAY TO NETWORK AS THERE WERE STUDENTS FROM MANY OTHER SCHOOLS. ALSO, IN ADDITION TO KEY CLUB MEMBERS, THERE WERE CIRCLE K AND KIWANIS MEMBERS. I LOOK FORWARD TO GOING TO MORE EVENTS THAT WILL TEACH ME SKILLS THAT ARE VERY IMPORTANT TO SOCIETY.

MEMORIAL DAY SERVICE PROJECT
13
IN HONOR OF MEMORIAL DAY WHICH FALLS ON MAY 27, WE CREATED CARDS TO THOSE WHO HAVE SERVED OR ARE CURRENTLY SERVING IN THE U.S. DEFENSE FORCES! IT WAS A WAY FOR US TO SHOW THEM OUR APPRECIATION THROUGH THIS SMALL SERVICE PROJECT!

MEMORIAL DAY SERVICE PROJECT
15
IN MY OPINION, I THOUGHT THAT THE MEMORIAL DAY SERVICE PROJECT WAS A GREAT WAY TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE PEOPLE THAT PROTECT OUR COUNTRY. I GOT TO EXPRESS MY AMAZING ARTISTIC ABILITIES WITH MY FRIENDS. I LEARNED THAT ONE OF MY FRIENDS IS AN TALENTED ARTIST. NOT ONLY WAS IT REALLY FUN TO RELAX AND MAKE CARDS WITH MARKERS AND CRAYONS AS IF WE WERE LITTLE KIDS AGAIN, IT FEELS REALLY NICE TO BE A PART OF MAKING A VETERAN’S DAY JUST BY THANKING THEM. THESE PEOPLE PUT THEIR LIFE AT RISK FOR US EVERYDAY AND IT IS ONLY RIGHT TO THANK THEM FOR THEIR SERVICE AND LET THEM KNOW THAT THEY ARE APPRECIATED BY US. OVERALL, THIS PROJECT WAS REALLY FUN AND I AM GLAD TO BE A PART OF IT. JACKLIN VU

PLUM BEACH CLEAN UP SATURDAY, MAY 18
17
Upon seeing this event listed on the weekly Midwood HS Key Club email update, I immediately signed up for the event. Despite being a really hot day, I enjoyed cleaning up the beach, as well as the teamwork that was necessary when we all jogged as the stronger people pushed and others pulled in an effort to dispose of a large boat of nearly 10 feet in length. But afterwards, the feeling of accomplishment far outweighed the sweat and tiredness that we all experienced. RYAN CHEN

AIDS WALK SUNDAY MAY 19, 2019
19
The AIDS walk was a really fun event! We walked over 6 miles around Central Park in support of people with HIV/AIDS. There were even more Key Club members this year than there were last year, and everyone was really enthusiastic throughout the whole event, despite the extreme heat. This event was also a chance for me to bond with people I had never been close with, which is something Key Club does: bringing people closer through a common cause. Although my feet were killing me by the end of it, the walk was a great way to do something simple to support a bigger cause. VIVIAN CHONG

MEALS FOR THE HOMELESS
SATURDAY MAY 25, 2019
25 MEALS FOR THE HOMELESS WAS AN AMAZING EXPERIENCE. IT’S ONE OF MY FAVORITE EVENTS BY FAR AND I HAD A GREAT TIME. SOME STUDENTS HELPED COOK FOOD OR DO DISHES AND OTHERS MADE WELCOMING PLACEMATS. WE LATER SERVED THE FOOD. A FEW OF US GREETED THE PEOPLE WHO CAME IN AND INSTRUCTED THEM TO SIT DOWN. THE REST OF US GOT THEIR ORDERS AND BROUGHT THEM THEIR FOOD. IT WAS A VERY EYE-OPENING EXPERIENCE. I GOT TO INTERACT WITH MANY DIFFERENT PEOPLE AND GOT TO HEAR THEIR STORIES. I HAD A GREAT TIME AND CAN’T WAIT TO GO BACK.

MOTHER'S DAY FUNDRAISER May 8-10, 2019
27 SELLING FLOWERS AND CARDS FOR MOTHER’S DAY IN THE FRONT LOBBY OF MIDWOOD WAS A VERY INTERESTING EXPERIENCE FOR ME BECAUSE I LEARNED MORE ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENT OF MIDWOOD AND IT’S STUDENTS. FOR EXAMPLE, THERE WERE TEACHERS AND SECURITY GUARDS THAT I DID NOT EXPECT TO BUY A FLOWER OR A CARD. THIS WAS FASCINATING BECAUSE I GOT TO SEE THE MIDWOOD COMMUNITY COME TOGETHER AND SUPPORT ONE ANOTHER ON SUCH A NOBLE DAY. I ALSO LEARNED A LOT ABOUT MARKETING THESE ITEMS AND FOUND CERTAIN WAYS TO HAVE A BETTER CHANCE TO GET A PERSON TO BUY AN ITEM WHICH WAS A VERY USEFUL STRATEGY THAT CAN BE UTILIZED IN THE REAL WORLD.
