KEY CLUB PLEDGE

KEY CLUB MISSION

I pledge, on my honor, to uphold the objects of Key Club International; to build my home, school and community; to serve my nation and God; and to combat all forces which tend to undermine these institutions.

Key Club is an international student-led organization which provides its members with opportunities to provide service, build character and develop leadership.

I encourage you all to participate in a divisional event to learn what we are all about! We have many ideas in mind and things planned for the year and there are more to come. One of our many goals is to get more members involved in events such as cleanups, fundraisers, walks and etc. We want our members to be more active and understand what Key Club really is. When I first joined Key Club, I never knew it would be as important to me as it is now. As I learned more about it and got more involved, I realized that it wasn't just an ordinary club. It isn't just a club, but it is also a family. We all come together with the idea to help others in need and we work together to make it happen. With the help of each and every one of us, we can make such a big difference! Teamwork is something very important and with it, anything can happen. With our many goals, including this one, we hope to have a great year with everyone as your new board. As secretary, I will try to accomplish the objectives with the help of everyone and build upon it. I hope that this year will be very successful and fun! I will see you around.

My goals for this service year are to show the old and new members of Midwood High Club the true meaning of being a Key Clubber, and to increase the club’s pride. I hope to accomplish these goals by introducing more events that will help the members realize the power they have on their hands to change the world. Of course, I also want the members themselves to become more involved during club activities. For example, instead of just attending events and meetings, members should volunteer to be project captains or participate in committees. As an officer, I hope that with everyone’s help we will become the model Key Club for not only District 9, but for all Key Clubs around the world. I look forward to serving all of you this year. Happy Key Clubbing!

My goal for this service year is to make our home club interact more with other Key Clubbers whether it be within our home club, our division, or our district. Wendy Lliguichuzhca: Webmaster

Birthdate: September 12th, 2000; Sometime around 10 am Height: (I'm pretty short) About 5’2 Hair Color: Black Eye Color: Brown Favorite Color: Blue Favorite Artist: Lana Del Rey, Melanie Martinez, etc. Hey Key Clubbers! My name is Wendy and I am the new webmaster.

I hope that this year more members will attend events and just gain a better understanding of what the true values of Key Club are. Most people view our club as a simple way of getting more credits and adding Key Club to their list of extracurricular activities on college applications. I hope that members, this year, take away more from our club than simply the credits. The lessons you learn from Key Club are amazing and I wish for everyone to gain this knowledge and apply it to their everyday life. From Key Club, I personally, have learned about different organizations around New York that are always open to volunteers and I've gained new friendships from these. Not only is Key Club a way for all of you to take action in your community, but also, it's a way in which you can create new friendships and experiences. Walking the March of Dimes and the AIDS Walk last year was amazing and tiring at the same time. Just being out there and knowing that by participating others may be inspired to donate or contribute to the cause was amazing to me. Let's make this service year a learning experience and let's go out there and help others.

2016-2017 Midwood Board!

The Secret Life of Pets Movie Fundraiser The Secret Life of Pets Movie Fundraiser was our very first fundraiser of the service year. We worked with Bronx Science Key Club to raise $224.12 for the Governor’s Project, Voices for the Blind. It was a huge success! After officers took attendance and collected the admission fee, members walked into the theater to collect their ticket and kids pack. The kids pack included a small popcorn, candy and a small refillable drink! Afterwards, we sat in really comfortable, reclining chairs while waiting for the movie to start since there were some technical difficulties with screening the movie. Despite the wait, members had a great time getting to know each other, catching PokÊmon and eating their popcorn! Overall, we are extremely proud of the outcome of this fundraiser and we hope to have another fundraiser just as successful! Yours In Service, Josephine Leung President

The Bowery Mission Soup Kitchen Event Having to wake up as early as I normally wake up for school on a Saturday in the middle of Summer vacation isn't the most pleasant thing to do. However, this experience made it worth it. The staff of the Bowery Mission was very kind and helped to make this a very memorable experience. I remember one of the staff members telling us how he treats the elderly women who utilize their services as if they were his grandmother because she unfortunately passed away a few years ago. It was a really touching statement that still gives me feels. My absolute favorite part of this experience was whenever a short and sweet "Good morning!" was reciprocated with a cheerful smile. This has to be one of the most touching events in my life and I hope we get to do this again. Yours In Service, Alfredo Lorenzo Member

Africa Project

On Saturday, August 6th at 7:15AM, I was on my way to what I knew was going to be a productive morning. After meeting up with other key clubbers, we arrived at the site where multiple containers consisting of soccer balls, books, clothes and more were being held. We quickly began helping to lift boxes filled with books from subjects like history, trigonometry, and chemistry. Our goal was to move every single box from one container into another, so that the one filled would be shipped off to Ghana. Even though some boxes weighed more than 50 Ibs., it was manageable due to knowing where these books would end up and by seeing how eager others were to help out as well. In between our work, Mr. Grashow told us of how great of an impact the materials we were loading actually made. For example, he explained how a school didn’t have enough books so they couldn’t let any students take the books home. This motivated us to keep going and get the last box on that truck. Overall, this event left me sore for a couple days, but was extremely rewarding. Yours In Service, Alice Mo Editor
