Schoolchildren from around the UK to form Guard of Honour at start of Athletes’ Parade 2,000 schoolchildren from 250 Get Set Network schools across the UK will form a Guard of Honour to line the route as athletes make their way through the Olympic Park into the Olympic Stadium, for the London 201 2 Olympic Games Opening Ceremony. At the start of the Athlete’s Parade, during the athletes’ procession from the Olympic Village to the Olympic Stadium, the Guard of Honour will line the route, holding lanterns and banners they have created to support each of the 204 competing teams. For many of the 1 0,500 athletes the Guard of Honour will be their first experience of the London 201 2 Games. Beeslack High School has been chosen as one of only two secondary schools from the whole of Scotland. Thier close working relationship with Selelekela High School in the Soweto township in Africa over the last 3 years has encouraged them to carry the colours of South Africa. First-year pupils Aidan Rickis, Ricky Kane, Abby Wighton and Rebekah Cathcart along with second years Joanna Hunter, Thomas Clouston, Matthew Keith and Kyra Smith look forward to proudly representing their school, thier country and their wee toon of Penicuik. Good luck and well done from the whole community!
This months competiton has been kindly donated by the the newly opened 'Roseline Gallery' in Roslin by Diane McCarry. She is an encaustic artist to whom her passion has lead her to bring this ancient medium to the 'Lothians'. Check out their back page advert for some more info on what they offer. BROOMHILL DAY CENTRE
We raised over £500 at our home baking stall on Hunter & Lass Day and would like to thank everyone who contributed to our stall or turned up on the day to help out. The money raised will go towards our annual outing in September. We have recently replaced our old piano with a new digital piano - all thanks to community donations . The residents of Greenhill Park in Penicuik kindly donated a Jubilee Rose to the day centre garden following their Jubilee Street Party in June. The rose has been potted up and will be planted in the day centre garden as soon as it is stronger.

I am passionate about all things creative whether it be art, music, design or nature to coin a few. So starting off my working career as a screen printer seemed a natural move. 1 0 months later i got an oppertunity to start a full modern apprenticeship in Painting and Decotoratin g, as my wife was pregnant with our first child i thought this would give a more stable career for the future and I took the plunge. Fast forward a few years, three children and a varied and fulfilling career path. I am now a self empolyed graphic designer which offers the flexablity for me to apply my skill set to many different areas. I have a keen interest in technology of which two of my businesses are based around. Open source software. Community and family are key to any healthy town which led me and a couple of colleauges to birth this very publication. I currently work with companies and organisations in and around Midlothian, offering them a unique set of IT, design and print services that compliment their current business assets at realistic and affordable prices. My focus for the future is to help develop a dynamic social and business community that can truly enhance life in the surrounding area and our wee toon that is Penicuik. We have three clubs that meet two on Tuesday/Thursday mornings 9.30 – 1 1 .30 am and one on the Thursday afternoon 2.00 – 4.00 pm (Ladies only). Baby Bubbles will be working in partnership with Beeslack Community High School to provide swimming lessons for babies, toddlers and pre-school children up to the age of 4 years 6 months old. Plans are now afoot for this years arts festival, to be held between Saturday 1 st September and the Sunday 1 6th September - the theme is Penicuik's Industrial Heritage and History . See our website www.penicuikarts.org or the West Street notice board for information and an announcement of a Pre-Festival meeting towards the end of June. After the huge success of our window and studio trails last year we are hoping to repeat this, as well as having a mix of crafts, music, dance, literary and other events. We’ll also be posting details of the Open Art Exhibition and Turner Prize competition, where entries are invited from all levels of artist and in any media. This year we’re very excited to be introducing a new Photography Exhibition & Christie Prize Competition. Entries on the theme of the Pentlands, Penicuik & District will be invited and displayed in the Gallery Cafe throughout September. Watch this space for more details! Our AGM is on Wednesday July 4th; 7:00 for 7:30 at the West Street Art Centre. There will be refreshments and music from guitarist, Richard Callaghan. would like to see happening. Our summer Family Ceilidh kicks off at 7pm on Saturday the 6th of July at the Craigiebield Hotel with the Homecoming String Band www.homecomingstringband.com. It includes Sandy from the Penicuik Music School and you can have a fling with a great mix of classic Scottish dances with a dash of bluegrass etc. Not to be missed! make some further improvements to our premises at West Street. A project close to our hearts is to provide a stair lift. It’s hard getting funds for anything these days, but we’re doing our best, and we’re very glad to have Jo Buckley on our committee, who is experienced and pro-active with grant applications. She just managed to secure a spot of funding for the Arts Festival, too. Other grant applications are being made to refurbish the back windows, to make repairs to guttering, and to
replace the stair carpets. Let’s hope that at least some of these dreams are realised! The work we have already achieved over the last few years has greatly improved our historic venue. In June, Christine Suter will show examples of her weaving in an exhibition entitled "Stripes and Checkers", and in July we look forward to hosting the work of students from Edinburgh College of Art. Preparations for the 201 2/1 3 season are well under way. Early pre-season training started with a couple of demanding runs. The full pre-season training sessions commence on Saturday 30th July. Latest transfer news New signings: Former Penicuik players Ross Montgomery and Craig Miller return to the fold. Jerry Draper has transferred to Vale of Leithen, Mark Smith and Charlie Brigain are considering contract offers. Chris Roxburgh will sign on his return from holiday and Conor Thomson has yet to be seen (in America).
