Do you remember Easter at Hess's?

Easter Day, Hess's Department Store 1968

Max Hess made Hess brothers a shopping destination in Allentown, often with flamboyant and exciting displays and events. Some prominent events included the annual May flower show in which the store was decorated overnight with thousands of fresh flowers. It was reported that Max had the air conditioning turned as low as it could go to keep the flowers fresh through the night. Easter was a big performance every year. Including a big Easter parade throughout Allentown with thousands in attendance. Afterwards, attendees would go to The Patio for a slice of strawberry pie, a fond memory of many Lehigh Valley residents to this day.

A Lehigh Valley Health Food Favorite! Made with love and transparency. A health focuses cafe and cold-pressed juice bar. Located in Forks township and downtown Easton at the Easton Public Market.

After two years of minimal progress made through conventional therapy, we decided to start our non-verbal autistic son, Santi, on a preservative-free, gluten-free, and dairy-free diet we read about. Just two weeks after beginning the diet, Santi said his very first word. His mental and physical health improved, and a beautiful life changing journey of healing began. Every business has a story. This journey is our “why” and how Green Vida was born. Experiencing how the consumption of certain foods can change a life first-hand, we discovered our passion for creating wholesome, healthy meals, and providing this for our community. Green Vida Co. is a health-focused cafe and juice bar dedicated to making real food with love and transparency with two locations in Easton, Pa. We specialize in 100% raw and organic cold-pressed juice, juice cleanses, nut milks and wellness shots. We are currently the Lehigh Valley’s only cold-pressed juice bar. Our hydraulic juice presses squeeze every colorful, nutritious drop of juice while keeping their health-giving properties intact. It uses hydraulic pressure to extract liquid from plants without denaturing enzymes or damaging nutrients with high levels of heat or oxidation. Nutrients like vitamins and minerals, soluble fiber, living enzymes, antioxidants, and phytonutrients are all contained in the juice. You’ll be naturally energized and nourished by the two pounds of fruits and vegetables contained in every bottle of juice. Now more than ever we need to be mindful of what we put in our bodies, which is why our menu was carefully crafted to include only the highest quality, fresh, whole, organic, non-GMO, locally sourced, and minimally processed ingredients. All without sacrificing flavor or satisfaction. We are a home for people of all dietary preferences. We offer vegan, vegetarian, antibiotic-free meat, gluten-free, and allergy friendly menu items. Everything on our menu is handcrafted to taste as good as they make you feel. Enjoy a farm fresh Colombian cup of coffee, where we tell you not only it’s roast date but it’s harvested date. We proudly offer made to order organic superfood smoothie, smoothie bowl, salad, gourmet sandwiches and so much more. Being a sustainable business is very important to us. Our bottle return program has kept over 3,300 glass bottles out of landfills since it’s been implemented in July 2021. Receive store credit for each glass juice bottle you return to any of our locations.

INGREDIENTS 1Tbs olive oil 4 Tbs unsalted butter 16oz Smoked Gouda 16oz Sharp White Cheddar

DIRECTIONS

SERVES 4

Spring means warm days and cold nights. What better way to enjoy it then with some warm, comforting, melty cheese.

Salt to Taste (Optional: Quality Whole Grain Mustard for dipping)

Shred Cheddar and Gouda in to a bowel and mix evenly. Butter 2 pieces of sour dough bread. Preheat Pan on medium high heat, with olive oil. Place 1 slice of bread butter side down and add a healthy handful of cheese top with the other piece of bread. Toast for approximately 3 minutes per side or until golden brown. Salted as soon as you pull it out of the pen. Slice admire the cheese pull and enjoy with some grainy mustard or tomato soup.

Easter at the Zoo on the 17th and Party for the Planet from the 22nd to the 24th. My kids love the free themed scavenger hunts but tokens can also be purchased for extra fun (crafts, games, activities). (Be sure to check out their other events throughout the year!) They also have a Geakers Taco inside the zoo with great food for a super reasonable price. When we go to the zoo we always bring cousins, friends, and more.

For the month of April, the Lehigh Valley Zoo has two special events taking place.

mas

We are usually only there for about an hour or two but you can easily make it a longer outing. As you are leaving the zoo there is a river (we like to pack swimsuits, towels, buckets and butterfly nets to try and catch crayfish), trails for walking, and spots for picnicking if you would rather bring your own food. The family membership is a pretty good price and gives us something to do throughout the whole year. Bonus: There’s a nice scenic spot at the top of the mountain too with a great view. Kid approved ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️5 star rating for fun, activities, exploring, and yummy food

One of our favorite things to do in the beginning of spring is visit Klein Farms Dairy and Creamery. Located in Easton, PA and open year round! It is the perfect place to get the family together and back outside in the fresh air. Enjoy walking around the farm, petting or feeding various farm animals, and playing at the playground. Afterwards make sure to get some of their delicious homemade ice cream or Italian ice! And while inside, don't forget to check out their store for some gourmet cheese, fresh yogurt, raw milk and honey, eggs, farm raised beef, and more! You won't be disappointed!

Kid approved ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️5 star rating for fun, activities, and delicious food! Parent approved ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️5 star rating or prices, activities, delicious food, and wearing our kids out! (Or getting some kid energy out while parents can relax a little)
