2021 Kicks Off with Hope
he year kicked off with our First Sunday of the Year Service. We were still in a worldwide pandemic that by the end of 2021 would kill off more than 800,000 Americans. Vaccines became available for those who are essential workers, people who are immunocompromised, and seniors aged 65 and above. Hope was rising for an end to this horrific plague. A new president, Joseph Biden, was inaugurated after a contentious election. But the church powers on, a haven in the midst of a tempestuous world. Mighty men of faith, Mark Morgan and Dannie Hood. ministered this month with Pastor Johnson. God has not given us a spirit of fear. Jesus is still on the throne!

He preached on “What God Did Last Time Is Not the Last Time.” He declared, “The greatest multicultural revival is not behind us. He’s going to do it even greater!” Later in the month Mark Morgan, pastor of Abounding Grace of San Francisco, preached “Place to Place.” He discussed how Jesus is our high priest who continuously makes intercession for us, and because of His perfect blood, we can go boldly before the throne of God. Jesus went from the suffering lamb, to high priest, to conquering king!

Members registered online, temperatures were taken at the door, and staff at the entrance wore masks. Attendees were enouraged to socially distance, and air high-5’s replaced handshakes and actual high-5’s. Since then, many of our older saints have been vaccinated and have returned to in-person services. brought us another visit from Evangelist Victor Jackson who ministered on the topic “Hope Is Alive.” We also were blessed by the preaching of Evangelist Landon Gore. Our recording studio was completed which is used for livestream mixes, covers, and podcasts. Tim Warren, our multimedia director, thanks Tim Montes, Jon Harris, Aaron Amador, and Ethan DeMoss, Mike Shoffett, Norbert Feliciano, and Jeremiah Williams for being part of the team that helped make this possible. Speaking of podcasts, we kicked off our first podcast this month which are available on youtube, Apple podcasts, and Spotify. Growth Track kicked off a new semester with a get-acquainted mixer. April
was a very busy month for Revival Center. Stan and Juli Jasinski led us in our first Prayer Walk in Modesto. Teams visited different strongholds in the city, anointed them with oil, and prayed against the “strongman.” We also had a visit from Mark Shutes who leads evangelism to the countries of the former Soviet Union. Easter this year fell in April. It is always a time of great celebration and it was again at Revival Center. Pastor Johnson preached “Long Live the King.” Speaking of the pastor, it was his birthday this month. We are so blessed to have such a dedicated man of God lead our church. Happy Birthday, Pastor!

Kiah Williams, Brianna Harris, Mary Lou Fletcher, Frances Robledo, and Carol Paul enjoy the festivities at our Mother’s Day Brunch.
In May
feeling a heavy burden to make a concerted outreach to the Spanish-speaking in our community, we began a second service on Sunday afternoons at 12:30 at our church. All the singing is in Spanish, and the preaching is bilingual. Thanks to all of our music and technology teams, preachers, and their interpreters who make this possible. May God bless our efforts. May is Mother’s Day, and Revival Center celebrated it with a Mother’s Day brunch in the church parking lot. It was a wonderful event, complete with delicious charcuterie platters and much-in-demand guest speakers, Melani Shock and her daughter. It was followed by a moving Mother’s Day service that Sunday. Another treat this month was a visit from former RC members Danny and Esther Becerra and their sons. They are currently Associate Missionaries to the country of Belize in Central America. This month was also Pentecost Sunday, the day we celebrate the birth of the church when the Holy Ghost was poured out on those who gathered in the Upper Room and the message of Acts 2:38 was preached by the Apostle Peter. A new baptismal tank was installed this month to wash away sins in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Near the end of the month, we had our Baby Dedication service which is really for those who want to dedicate their young children, not just babies, to the Lord. We ended the month with a return visit of evangelists Victor Jackson and A.J. Holloway. What an awesome month we had!

brought not only hot weather to Modesto, but also an opportunity to honor our graduates. This year we even had two members who earned a master’s degree, including our own pastor. Congratulations to all! Well, last month was Mother’s Day, and June brings us Father’s Day. Although we did not have a brunch for our fathers, we did have a special family service for Father’s Day. Pastor Johnson switched the focus of our Mother’s and Father’s Day services to make them more inclusive. In June we also celebrated Youth Week and prayed for Josh and Jeannette Aguilera and Anjolene Rodela who would be leaving in July to support the Becerras in Belize. saw us celebrating Hyphen Week with both a district function and with our own young adults, Noah Wells and Thomas Barker, ministering during a Wednesday night service. Thank God, for both of these young men who not only have excelled academically in universities, but also have such a strong love and commitment to the kingdom of God. It was an honor to have Drew Galloway, Louisiana Youth Ministries Director, minister at our church. This month, we also were excited to get reports of the missionary trip to Belize by Josh and Jeannette Aguilera who lead our youth, accompanied by a mission-minded Hyphen young adult, Anjolene Rodela. We loved hearing about the opportunities they had to serve, assisting Associate Missionaries, Danny and Esther Becerra. To top it off, we went full-force on our long-awaited church renovation. Our carpeting and pews were crying out to be replaced, as they were original to the time we expanded our sanctuary in the mid-nineties. In the last issue of THE NEWSVINE, we featured our renovation, including the new seating, painting inside and out, new foyer, and more. It was all made possible by volunteer labor and generous giving by our congregation. We are also thankful for the various contracted companies who labored. We had to go online for a couple of services as the chairs were installed, but the sacrifice was worth it. Thank you for all who made this renovation possible. Our next big project is adding a Sunday School wing to our building. We are believing God for the finances, as we want to expand our outreach to the children in our community. We are now over halfway through the year, still holding it together through a persistent and heartless pandemic. Our church has not been untouched by this virus, but we will be victorious.

August:
The mighty man of God, Sam Emory, pastor of Apostolic Tabernacle in Merced, CA, preached for us at the beginning of August. His sermon topic was “God moves through Expectation!” How true! Two weeks later Taylor Fairbanks, pastor of Vessel Church in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, was back with us. We are still in the midst of the renovation, comfortably seated in our new chairs, excited about all the new changes to our building under the creative design of our pastor’s wife, Kim Johnson, and under the direction of Pastor Johnson, Administration Pastor Jon Quinones, and contractor Don Wilson. His sermon topic was “Come Out of the Tombs.” His reference was to the demon possessed man who could not be bound by chains and wandered among the tombs. “The devil wants us to look in the mirror and hate ourselves,” he said. “He wants you walking around with guilt and depression. He is afraid because you have a testimony!” Let us keep the Jackson family in prayer as they start a new work for the kingdom of God.

Ugly Christmas Sweater Contest
DeVina Aguirre and the RC Ensemble sing “He’s Able!”
A
tradition that started several years ago at Revival Center is our Ugly Christmas Sweater Contest. Pastor and Sister Johnson had a burden on their heart that it in addition to meeting together for worship and the word, it is important for the church family to also meet together for fellowship. What better time than the Christmas season for some Christmas cheer? It’s a great way to meet and greet those people in the church who sit on the opposite side of the sanctuary or are in a different age group. The service started with prayer and a time of worship led by the RC ensemble. That’s when the livestream stopped and the action began. Administrative Pastor Jon Quinones led the festivities donned in his ugly Christmas attire. Everyone was given a piece of paper and told not to look at it until the order was given. Instructions were also given to keep an eye out for who had the ugliest Christmas sweater, to get their name, and than to give it to Pastor Quinones. He then counted down 5,4,3,2,1, and the chaos began. Papers were quickly turned over to reveal a list of about 20 things such as: find someone who is wearing the same color sweater, the same height, can whistle, can remember three sermon titles of Pastor Johnson. It was great fun as people mingled enthusiastically all over the church. You could hear laughter and happy energy and see people posing for pictures in their ugly sweaters--all while Christmas music was playing in the background. The winners were declared and then the church was dismissed for hot cocoa, hot cider, and cookies in the foyer. Congratulations to all the winners and thank you to all those who prepared for this event and participated. Lord willing, can’t wait to do it again next year!
