COVER STORY Pohela Boishakh, a very auspicious day, which opens our Bengali calendar i.e., the starting day our of Bengali New Year. People of Bangladesh, West Bengal, Assam, Tripura and also from various part of the world celebrates this very special day. It unites all ethnic Bengalis irrespective of social, cultural, religious and regional differences. In Bangladesh, it is a national holiday and India, West Bengal and Assam; it is a (state) holiday. As per our official calendar designed by Bangla Academy, Pohela Boishakh is usually held on April 14. Bengali New Year or Pohela Boishakh is commonly known as "Nobo-borso". Here "Nobo" means new and "Borso" means year. If we look back to the history we will see that Pohela Boishakh celebration has been started from the reign of Mughal emperor Jalaluddin Muhammad Akbar. Akbar the Great, the distinguished grandson of Zahiruddin Muhammad Babar was the third Mughal Emperor. To facilitate the collection of taxes, Akbar-e-Azam has changed the tradition of the collection of agricultural tax as Hijri calendar and ordered a reform of the calendar because the Hijri is a lunar calendar and does not match the harvest periods and therefore, farmers face severe difficulties. The royal astrologer of the court of Emperor Akbar, Aamir Fatehullah Siraji has actually designed this calendar, after searching on the lunar Hijri and solar calendar. The unique feature of Bengali year was that instead of being a lunar calendar, the new calendar is based on a fusion of solar and lunar year. It was really a great development, such as lunar and solar years were made in very different ways. Initially, this calendar was named "Fasli San" (agricultural year), then Bônggabdo or Bangla year which had been started from 10/11 March 1584, but was dated November 5, 1556 or 963 Hijri. This was the day that Akbar defeated Himu in the second battle of Panipat to ascend the throne. This is not only a glorified victory, but also the starting of a synchronized tax collection process. It was Akbar-e-Azam’s order to clear all fees on the last day of Choitro. The next day was the first day of the New Year (Pohela Boishakh) on the day of a new beginning, the owners would distribute sweets among their tenants, and businessmen would open a

Another study shows that the ancient king Shoshangko who ruled Bengal might have started Bengali era. This means that the Bengali calendar started from the value of one, the starting point is estimated to be on Monday, 14th April 594 in proleptic Gregorian calendar and Monday, 12th April 594 in the Julian calendar. People from all walks of life wear traditional Bengali attire: men wear payejama / lungi / dhuti and kurta / Panjabi. The young women wear white saris with red borders, and adorn themselves with tip (bindi) Churi (bracelets) and Ful (flowers).

Boishakhi fairs are organized throughout the country. Traditional crafts, cosmetics, agricultural products, toys, and various types of food and candy are sold at these fairs. These fairs also offer live Entertainment like the cock fights, bullfights, horse racing and flying of pigeons. Jatra (The Traditional plays), jarigan, Sarigan, kobigan, gazir gan, gambhira are entertained there at the show. Popular Baul, Bhatiali, Murshidi marfati songs are sung here. Narrative plays like Laila-Majnu , Yusuf-Zulekha, Radha-Krishna are staged. Other places of interest of Boishakhi fairs are puppet show, merry-go-round, & so on. Dhaka’s Pohela Boishakh celebration is incomplete without the "Mangal Shobhajatra". The students of the Institute of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka arranges a colorful procession (known as "Mangal Shobhajatra") and marched in different streets and finally returns to the Institute of Fine Arts. This procession consists mainly arts and crafts (such as cutouts of tigers, owls, etc. and different types of masks), these colorful works of art that are elements of Bengali culture and life resemble Bengal rural and modern. People of all ages and irrespective of class and profession take part in this procession. Since 1989 this Procession (Shobhajatra) has become an important event and also a major tourist attraction.

telecasted on television and on radio. . Many festivals relating to New Year's Day have been disappeared, while new festivals have been added. With the abolition of the zamindari system, the punya connected with the closing of the accounts of land revenue has disappeared. Kite in Dhaka and bull racing in Munshiganj used to be very colorful events. Other village’s popular games and sports were horse races, bullfights, cockfights, flying pigeons, and boat racing. Some festivals, however, continue to be met, for example, bali (wrestling) in Chittagong and Gambhira in Rajshahi events are always popular.

Apart from these, cultural programs are organized by the social and cultural organizations across Dhaka. Newspapers and Magazine publish special supplements. Several films, music albums, books etc. are released and special programs are also broadcasted/

At present, Pohela Boishakh becomes a day of cultural harmony without keeping the distance between class and religious connection. There are many festivals celebrated in Bangladesh and West Bengal, only Pohela Boishakh comes without the preconceived expectations (specific religious identity, culture of gifts, etc.) Unlike holidays like Eid ul-Fitr and Durga Pujo, where new & lavish clothes has become a norm, or Christmas where exchanging gifts has become an integral part of the holiday, Pohela Boishakh truly represents a modest celebration of the simpler rural roots of the Bengal. Hence, more people can take part in the celebrations together without having the load to demonstrate their class, religion, or financial capacity.

If we look back to the history we will see that Pohela Boishakh celebration has been started from the reign of Mughal emperor Jalaluddin Muhammad Akbar.

NATURES WONDER

Aloe Vera is said to be the

most impressive medicinal herb invented by nature. There is nothing on this planet that offers the amazing variety of healing benefits. Aloe Vera has been widely grown as an ornamental plant. The species is popular with modern gardeners as a putatively m e dicinal plant and for its interesting flowers, form, and succulence. Aloe Vera has been found described in writings in many different cultures and as far back as the Greek, Egyptians and Roman eras. References have also been found in writings from the Indian and Chinese early cultures. Ancient records show that the benefits of Aloe Vera have been known for centuries, with its therapeutic advantages and healing properties surviving for thousands of years. 6000 year old stone carvings in Egypt contain images of the plant, which they referred to as the "plant of immortality". It was given as a burial gift to deceased pharaohs. Aloes are referred to in the Bible and legend suggests that Alexander the Great conquered the island of Socotra in the Indian Ocean to secure supplies of Aloes to treat the battle wounds of his soldiers.

Japan, India, Greece, Egypt, Mexico and Japan as well. • Aloe Vera, called kathalai in Ayurvedic medicine, is used as a multipurpose skin treatment. This may be partly due to the presence of saponin, a chemical compound that

• Germany's regulatory agency for herbs - Commission E - approved the use of Aloe Vera for the treatment of constipation. • According to a study at the Sinhgad College of Pharmacy, India, Aloe Vera promotes significant wound healing and closure in diabetic rats compared with the commercial product and provides a promising product to be used in diabetesinduced foot ulcers. • Researchers at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain, focused on the aloe vara extract's possible antioxidant and antimycoplasmic activities. • A study published in Nutritional Neuroscience found that Aloe Vera reduces depression and improves memory in mice. • It repairs “sludge blood” and reverses “sticky blood” and boosts the oxygenation of blood, cardiovascular performance and physical endurance.. It reduces high blood pressure natural, by treating the cause, not just the symptoms. • Prevents kidney stones and protects the body from oxalates in coffee and tea. • Cures ulcers, IBS, Crohn’s disease and other digestive disorders. Halts colon cancer, heals the intestines and lubricates the digestive tract and ends constipation. Stabilizes blood sugar and reduces triglycerides in diabetics.

Plant specification and region of growth Aloe Vera is a juicy and mucilaginous plant that can grow up to 40 inches in height. Without a stem, its green leaves resemble blades or a sword coming out from a central point. The leaves are thick and fleshy, green to grey-green, with some varieties showing white flecks on their upper and lower stem surfaces. The margin of the leaf is serrated and has small white spikes. Their orange flowers bloom in the summer. Though the tree produces seeds, they generally spread by offsets. Medicinal value Early records of Aloe Vera use as medicine appear in the Ebers Papyrus from the 16th century BC, in both Dioscorides' De Materia Medica and Pliny the Elder’s Natural History written in the mid-first century AD along with the Juliana Anicia Codex produced in 512 AD. The plants is being used therapeutically for many centuries in China,

Medicinal remedy of Aloe Vera to cure burn

11 PAGES

NATURES WONDER For remedy to burn, put ice directly onto your burn to immediately cool your burn for a minimum period of 20 - 30 minutes. Next scoop out the gel from the inside of an aloe leaf and apply promptly onto your burn or blistering skin. Now give a big sigh of relief. You can repeatedly apply Aloe Vera gel to your burn or blister as it heals. You can lay a fresh aloe leaf onto your wound and then wrap a bandage around the leaf as well.

Food value

Aloe Vera contains over 200 active components including vitamins, minerals, amino acids, enzymes, polysaccharide, and fatty acids- thus used for such a wide range of remedies. The bulk of the Aloe Vera leaf is filled with a clear gel consisting 99% water. The vitamins include A, C, E, folic acid, choline, B1, B2, and B3 (niacin) B6. Aloe Vera is also one of

the few plants containing vitamin B12. Almost 20 minerals found in Aloe Vera; i.e., calcium, magnesium, zinc, chromium, selenium, sodium, iron, potassium, copper, manganese etc. There are about 18-20 amino acids (building blocks of protein) available in Aloe Vera and most importantly all the 8 essential amino acids for human health are present among them. Aloe Vera also includes quite an impressive range of fatty acids; e.g. plant sterols, HCL cholesterol (which lowers fats in the blood), campesterol, B-sitosterol, linoleic, linolenic, myristic, caprylic, oleic, palmitic, and stearic acids. The former four acids are helpful in reducing symptoms of allergies and acid indigestion. The main benefit consuming jelly plants in diet is that these gels move through the intestinal tract absorbing toxins along the way and get eliminated with waste from our body. Improving digestion and detoxification have a secondary effect in promoting weight loss. It

itself has an excellent combination of balanced electrolytes, hence can be renamed as nature’s own “sports drink”.

Drink recipe

Today in Japan Aloe Vera is commonly used as an ingredient in commercially available yogurt. There are also many companies w h i c h produce

Aloe Vera beverages. People in Tamil Nadu, a state of India, often prepare a curry using Aloe Vera which is taken along with Indian bread (nan bread) or rice traditionally. Depending on your food preferences, desires or what you already have in your kitchen shelf, you can create a unique Aloe Vera juice that makes your stomach and taste buds happy and healthy. Just keep in mind that when you are using a lot of ingredients in you aloe juice, you will want to include ones that will not only boost your mixture’s health potential but also make it tastier. Since Aloe Vera has a strong taste, try to add ingredients to mask and cut that harshness; acidic fruits are the best choice. While you can experiment on your own, here are some creative recipes that have already been tested and are a proven success. To have a crispy drink for a sunny morning, add 2 tablespoons of Aloe Vera gel (extracted from the leaf), 1 apple, half of cucumber and squeeze a big lemon in a blender. Don’t forget to add sufficient amount of ice cubes and blend it to have a refreshing crispy cool aloe drink. If you are exhausted in a summer night, take a tropical drink to rescue your body. Take your blender and put the following in a cup of chilled water. Continuously add a tablespoon of Aloe Vera gel, slices of a carrot, a green apple and a cup of pineapple cubes in your blender. You can add a few tablespoons of coconut milk to increase your juice’s bacteria-fighting potential. Filter the drink, add some ice cube to chill it further and enjoy the summer night. The last recipe I am going to present is the iced Aloe Vera lemonade with ginger and orange. It will enlighten your diner and definitely will be the attraction of the party. To make Aloe Vera cubes, softly peel of the upper layer of Aloe Vera leaf, cut the gel in squares retaining the bottom peel and then remove the bottom peel to release the vibrant gel cubes. Put them to fill half of your glass. In a separate bowl, add a teaspoon of finely sliced ginger and squeeze a lemon and an orange (by hand to make the juice clear) and add a cup of chilled water. You can add honey or sugar syrup in it as per your choice and then pour the drink in the glass containing Aloe Vera gel cubes, Garnish the glass with a slice of lemon, orange flower or a mini Aloe Vera leaf. Beautification

From the time immemorial Aloe Vera has been used for skin glamour. The queens of Egypt: Cleopatra and Nefertiti, apparently used Aloe Vera to keep their skin soft. It is now being added with other ingredients to make soap, facial toners, facial scrubs and masks, after shave, mists, lip balm, salve, tinctures, washes, creams and astringents. It is an excellent moisturizer for skin. Aloe Vera gel rejuvenates the skin, hydrates it and keeps your skin looking fresh all the times. Aloe Vera gel has anti-microbial properties making it ideal to treat acne, pimples, insect bites, eczema, cuts and wounds. Aloe Vera is also known to reduce pain and inflammation – both internally and externally It is a great naturally occurring anti-oxidant and known to retain skin’s firmness – making it a good anti-aging cream. It is also used to treat sun burns, tanning and dull skin come up from pollution.

acne prone area of your body for 20 minutes and rinse off with cold water. Follow this every week to treat oily, acne prone skin. You can keep this mixture in refrigerator for a month. 4. Someone is there still not convinced because she has a sensitive skin. I am assuring her to have the following recipe. Make a smooth paste of Aloe Vera gel, cucumber juice and yogurt. Add few drops of rose or any other essential oil. Apply and let it sit for 15 minutes before rinsing it with cold water. This paste will get rid of oil, dirt and impurities from your skin leaving you feeling clean and refreshed. Want to soften and condition your hair and get it clean without stripping it of its protective oils? Aloe Vera remedies will come in the form of conditioner that makes your hair naturally sparkle.

Concluding remarks

Aloe Vera products and juices are marketed worldwide, but there is neither enough scientific nor regulatory approval to support their marketing. Scientific evidence for the cosmetic and therapeutic effectiveness of Aloe Vera is limited and when present is frequently contradictory. A two-year National Toxicology Program (NTP) study on oral consumption of non-decolorized whole leaf extract of Aloe Vera found evidence of carcinogenic activity in rats but not in mice. The NTP says more information is needed to determine the potential risks to humans. The NTP believes further studies of oral preparations of aloe are important; though topical (external) preparations are still considered safe. So, as a professional, I strongly recommend you to avoid daily consumption of Aloe Vera (especially in pregnancy). However, occasional drinking and external use has been considered completely safe.

Here I am presenting a number of recipes of herbal pack for skins. 1. To make an Aloe Vera Face Pack for Glowing skin: Make a paste with a pinch of turmeric,1 teaspoon of Honey, 1 teaspoon of milk and few drops of rose water. Add the Aloe Vera gel to the paste and mix it well. Apply the paste on to the face and neck evenly for about 20 minutes. Then wash if off with Luke warm or cold water and pat dry with a clean towel to get your skin glowing. 2. Skin tanning is a common problem in Bangladesh and it is also very difficult to get rid of the tan easily. So, if you got a tanned skin after your sun bath or travel, mix Aloe Vera gel with few drops of lemon and apply the paste on the affected area. Leave it on for 10 mins and wash it off. 3. If you are suffering from oily skin and acnes, make a remedy: boil the whole Aloe Vera leaf in water and grind it to form a paste. Then add honey to the paste and apply it on the face, neck and

TEENAGE LIFESTYLE

The teenage years are the most interesting as well as the most irritating times of a person's life. You can seldom find a teenager who is absolutely happy and dandy and is embracing the world without any hidden sorrow, remorse or anger at something. Yes teens, I know how it feels. How many times have adults been expecting contradicting states of mind from you, for example, who out there has not faced "advices" like "You are no longer a child" and "You're still not old enough" in the same day at two different times? I'm sure the number is pretty substantial. Yes, do our lives at school or elsewhere offer enough trouble that you have to put up with this from the elders? Yes, that basically sums up the teenage years. Maybe I'm being too presumptuous and am acting like all those grumpy elders. But be patient as I lay out some of the common problems that plague teens and their worlds and maybe a little advice to sweeten the deal. I'll be dividing the article in two parts. In the first I'll be discussing problems related closer to home and at school. Basically I'll be outlining various problems that you may face in your everyday lives and their possible solutions; keyword "POSSIBLE". And in the second part, I'll be discussing about the different problems related to your "significant other" and how to sort it out or make it easier, at least. So, let's begin. In your teen days you may be dealing with a lot of emotional highs and lows. The simplest request, or, let's face it, order, from your mother to clean your room may set you off or the shortest glance from that dashing new guy in class, or that pretty girl sitting by the window may send your heart flying

TEENAGE LIFESTYLE beyond cloud number nine. And what's my take on these mood swings? They are OK. They are quite normal and everyone goes through similar experiences; contrary to popular belief amongst adults. You do not need psychiatric evaluation just because of these mood swings. So don't feel low. It's just part of growing up. As you grow up you'll learn newer techniques of stress management but for now, if you are in a tough spot reach out to a family member who understands you or a trusted friend, which, actually, brings me to my next topic - Friendship. This is a time when you'll meet friends from near and far and by today's innovative and virtual standards, from all over the world. But be careful who you make friends with. The person who might seem the friend that you've

Model: Jesper, Tasnuba Tisa, Afrida, Newaz Rahul Photography: Apurbo Abdul Latif

always been looking for might be the one to hurt you the most. If you let someone in, you are actually giving them access to the kingdom of your emotions. And even if you don't realize it, you are giving them the power to affect you emotionally if something goes wrong, for example, if your friend "accidentally" spills out some of your embarrassing secrets to someone else. This will then cause problems in both your friendship and your acquaintance with others as well. So be careful what you tell whom. Because once the deed is done it may take ages to undo. So choose your friends wisely people.

If you are a teenager, you may not realize it, but this is the time for you to flourish and take charge of your life. You have surely been repeatedly asked by your mom and dad to not throw away your life and to make the right choices - study hard, think about your future, etc. Well guys, I'll have to agree with them on this one. In today's modern age of internet and cheeseburgers, studying has lost its appeal amongst all the flash and temptation of music and movies and shop

ping and i-phones. I'm not saying stay away from all that; I'm just saying keep your bases covered. Sure you must party hard and listen to songs louder but when it comes to your exams, take some time off from all that and study hard for it. After the exams are resume the party once again. And trust me; partying with an A+ on your report card feels a whole lot better. Your family will be happy at home which will ease their concerns about you "ruining your life". It's a win-win. I hope you get my point. This is the

time to cease the day but if you let go and slack off, you will have to pay for it with depression and remorse a thousand times more powerful than the feeling of missing "Anny's Rocking Dance Party". Next up, I'll be talking about a certain problem that I guess every single teenager faces at some point of their teen-hood; that cute guy or that simply mesmerizing girl in class. Yes ladies and gentlemen, it's time to talk about some of the problems of your relationships with that significant other and some possible solutions; again, keyword, "POSSIBLE". Dating as a teen can certainly be fun as well as

complicated. Ah yes, that feeling when you fall in love for the first time is simply amazing. But when you actually get the girl of your dreams to go out with you for ice-cream, the "be careful what you wish for" analogy seems to kick in at times. The same thing is applicable in case of girls who get to go out with their "prince charming". So let's begin. It's pretty common to fall for someone who doesn't return your feelings, and it can certainly be painful. Keep in mind that just because one particular person does not as the amazing person that you are, it does not mean that there is

If your love interest doesn't notice you and is reluctant to feel the same way despite your efforts, then, may be it's time to move on. If he's just not that into you, find someone equally fabulous who is. Hey, you are the king/queen of your domain and you deserve to be treated as such. Don't let one measly human being ruin it for you. Keep your spirits up and head held high. Suppose the magic does happen and you start living in the castle above the clouds with your prince, but there are other problems lurking nearby. Even though you might not like to admit it, chances are that you really care about what your friends think about you and anyone that you may be dating. It's a fact that peer pressure can ruin a relationship. If your friends don't approve of your high school sweetheart, you might be in trouble. But it's not healthy to get so involved with someone you are dating that the two of you become isolated from other people as well. Don't distance yourself from your friends just because you have a boyfriend or girlfriend. Maintain a healthy balance between the two and enjoy the best of both worlds. There are other troubles lurking in paradise as well. Differences may arise in a desire for commitment in young relationships. It's common for one person to want a long-term commitment while the other person does not return feelings at the same level, or is simply not ready for a long-term commitment at a young age. And the solution to this is none other than Communication. Proper communication is an essential part of a relationship. When you don't talk to your boyfriend or girlfriend about your thoughts and feelings, many things might get clouded or unclear leaving room for misunderstandings and arguments. Through proper conversation you'll be able to clear out any misunderstandings that may arise among the two of you. One of the main hindrances of teenage love and dating is parental disapproval. Let's face it, people. We live in Bangladesh and we are Bengalis. There will obviously that friction between parents and teens and will not be remedied anytime soon. So be careful about hurting your parents by

doing something out of the line. Maintain your boundaries and don't give your parents a reason to look down on you or be embarrassed in the society. After all, family comes first. Many teen relationships don't make it. It's no one's fault; it's simply a lesson to learn that will make you stronger in future love relationships. While you may feel as though your heart has broken in a million of pieces, it's temporary pain. Soon you'll see why it had to end and what you learned from it. This knowledge will lead you to the love of your life, whether it's in a few weeks, months or years.

TRAVEL not like Waterfall. As like others I am very fond of Water fall from my childhood as because of I was born and brought nearby hill tracks in Chittagong. By that I have seen a lot of Waterfall in my belongings. It was pre-decided that this Time we were going to see one of the monster waterfall in Bangladesh which had been discovered recently. ‘KHOIYA-CHORA’ is the waterfall we are going to speak today. Firstly I heard about it from a Family friend of mine who live in ‘Mirarshorai’ Thana in Chittagong. “If you go there once, you will not want to come back again”, this was how my friend described about the place. Listening to that, I was so much curious about to go there. So it was me who proposed the tour to some of my friend. As being waterfall lover, they could not ignore my proposal. We started our journey from Dhaka at mid night with a car along with 3 others buddies of my area. After sleeping whole night in the car I just suddenly wake up by having sweet sun shine in my face. First thing i saw after opening my eyes weregreen hill around the road floating with my car. We were near to Mirshorai. We arrived there 8 in the morning there. As we communicated earlier with a guide name hafis, so he was there to receive us. First we had ‘khola-zara’ & ‘chicken’ in breakfast arranged by hafis. ‘khola-zara’ is a traditional food there made by riceflour. I suggest you, who are going to visit beside the area of Chittagong like Mirshorai, please do taste this one at least for once in life. This is so tasty to have every morning and I can grantee you that you will remember that for rest of your life. After freshen up we started our journey toward ‘KHOIYA-CHORA’. Firstly we went from Mirshorai to Khoiya Chora bazaar. From where we brought water, snacks and other needy things for journey. Getting all that things being ready, we moved nearby rail crossing. We parked our car and started walking. Hafis was leading and showing us the road which

way we should go. All of us were so excited and we were chilling so highly that people lived by road came up to see us. By realising that we just shut down our mouth. Actually each and every one of us should be careful about this that we should not be done any disturbances to the people and also to the environment while we are travelling. We walked more than an hour to get the water road which is locally called as ‘Chora’. We moved to the water way by picking our shoes on hand and by scrolling our pants up as hafis instructed us. When we started the water level was nearby knee, but after 30 mints suddenly the water level moved to our wrist. We were little bit concerned about but hafis made us believe that it’s ok. Passing a while in that way, we took the way of hill and started trekking. As we all know hill trekking is not a friendly way to go. So we had a bit tough time there. It took more than 50 mints by that way to reach ‘‘KHOIYA-CHORA’’ waterfall. It was unbelievable that the height of a waterfall in Bangladesh could be more than 150 feet. All of was totally amazed to see that. We did not expect this one hearing from others. You would not believe until u go there and watch what exactly we had seen. As we took some extra costume with us, we started having shower. Hafis helped us to take picture there. Water was so cool and fresh better than what we got in Dhaka by ‘wasa’. Some of us drank that water. It’s tasted quite well. We stayed more than 1.5hrs there. We took the same way back to Dhaka. I want to say one thing to the visitor who wants to go

there, before going there please do contact with local authority. They will help you in your security. Do take a guide with you that’s for must. Hope everyone will be interested to see this water fall and I guarantee that you will enjoy that.

I think there is no one in the earth who does not like Waterfall. As like others I am very fond of Water fall from my childhood.

I think there is no one in the earth who does

Many women plan ahead about how they want to look and visit the beauty parlors as such. To begin, wash your face with a face wash and apply a good sun block lotion on your skin. Use a Concealer in case there are spots on your face. For fair women, a deep colored blush like red, maroon or pink is suitable and for darker skin, brown is your color. And then you can use brown, red or black eye shadow matching it with the color of your saree. Be careful about the kajal getting ruined under the sun. Apply suitable mascara over the eyelids to look magnificent. Apply a lipstick that matches your attire, with lip gloss if you prefer. On this colorful day you will look magnificent in bright colors. Use a red “tip” or any matching with the color of your dress. Use a proper deodorant. Apply it before putting on your ornaments. On

Boishakh if you fashion a threaded saree with mud ornaments you will look very good. You can also choose your ornaments from brass, antique or oxidized and imitation jewelers. Pearl or flowery ornaments also look good with sarees. You can tie your hair with flowers to enhance your look. Sweating in the heat can degrade your look a bit. As your makeup may melt, keep a packet of tissue paper in your bag with sunglasses and an umbrella, a water bottle to hydrate. As you’ll be doing a lot of walking, be sure to wear a relatively flat sandal. And when you get back, however tired you are remove your makeup immediately. You must be careful about that. Use a face wash to rinse your whole face.

Before Pohela Boishakh there is a rush in order to shop for new clothes in the fashion houses and shopping malls of Dhaka. Fashion houses and boutiques release special collections and newer designs keeping Pohela Boishakh in mind.Everyone in the family, from the eldest to the youngest, indulge in Boishakhi shopping spree.

LIGHTING UP

Selima Ahmad,

Founder President of the Bangladesh Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BWCCI), was acutely aware of the need for a national body, which represented the interests and supported the initiatives of women entrepreneurs. As a successful businesswomen herself with longstanding experience in the private sector, Ahmad took the initiative to form a Chamber of Commerce devoted exclusively to facilitating the advancement of women entrepreneurs. Drawing on her business experience and involvement with several trade organizations, including the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industries, Bangladesh Automobile Assemblers and Manufacturers Association, Bangladesh Handicraft Manufacturers and Exporters Association, Bangladesh Association of Publicly Listed Companies, Ahmad convinced and mobilized women entrepreneurs, the government and development partners of the need for the creation of BWCCI The Pages: Among the labor force of Bangladesh, 30% are women and this ratio is more than 80% in garment sector which is the main pillar of foreign earning. But women as the entrepreneur are only 10%. Why the women are lagging behind in this sector till now? SA: Actually I think that the women as the entrepreneur are less than 10%. They have started their business by taking loan of taka about 20 to 50 thousand from Bank. But it is not possible to be a big or middle class standard entrepreneur with this money. Beside this, our women have not understood yet in which sector they have to work. But they have confined themselves in small business like Handicraft, Beauty parlor or Snacks shops etc. Actually it has happened for not having their training. The starting of Women Chamber is a part of that effort. We along with the banks have arranged to provide collateral free loan with 10% interest to the women entrepreneur. We have insisted the bank with the help of Bangladesh Bank to have separate desk for the women entrepreneur in the bank. That’s why right now more than nine thousands women entrepreneurs have had loan facility but still this is not significant for the whole country. If we want to increase the number we will have to provide training to the women entrepreneur in the Thana and District level. And we will have to help them to sell their products. Who will take the responsibility either Women Chamber

or SME Foundation or Govt. The Pages: Why Banks are not interested to provide loan to the women entrepreneur though they have lesser tendency to be a defaulter? SA: Bankers are very much commercial they like to provide loans to the corporate house. I am a director of Sonali Bank. I have found that the top twenty defaulters are mainly male and the giant corporate house. However, the tendency of women entrepreneurs is not to become defaulter. But the problem lies with the capitalist attitude of Bankers. They have lesser tendencies to be the part of the social development but the govt. has performed good job here. Government has made it obligatory to provide the loan with 10% rate of interest. But the Bank assume why they will waste their valuable time for the women entrepreneur rather they can provide hundred millions of taka loan to the giant entrepreneur where the Bank officials can have millions of taka of bribe. But the positive side is that we are hearing the echo of positive change around us. The Pages: There are separate Banks for women in abroad where deposits are collected from mass people but loans are provided to the women. Do you think that we do require such type of Bank in our country? SA: We have also proposed the so. But the problem lies with this type of Bank that it will not be able to provide service throughout the country. This will be started from the big cities but because of this, other Banks will stop to provide the specialized services to the women. But most of the women live in the village. It is impossible for them to have Banking facilities from the cities. As a result women will be deprived instead of getting benefit so it will be wise to have specialized facilities for the women in every branch of the Bank. The Pages: Once upon a time, it was not a normal scenario that women will go out of their house for work. What is your opinion that how much this scenario has been changed? SA: Yes there is a positive change seen by me. If we talk about our village we will find that life style is getting expensive there. None can lead their family properly with the help of a single earner so the husband wants that his wife will also earn to contribute to the family. The same condition is also prevailing in the city. Though oppression on women has not been

lessened, women are going to the working place that is a positive change. The Pages: As you have visited so many countries, what is your opinion regarding the advancement of our countries’ women in terms of our neighbor countries? SA: Women’s’ leadership in our country is very strong. Bangladesh’s achievement on women empowerment in MDG is up to the mark but we see in India that women are burnt to death for dowry system but this has been lessened in Bangladesh. In Pakistan, women of remote areas are very much compartmentalized in that area Bangladesh has developed a lot. Govt. is also very positive regarding women. They may not do everything for the women because of their lack of resources but still they are positive in the issue of women. General people as well as media always want to see the development of women. Right now we require the implementation of some laws like ensuring the security of women, ensuring the right of assets of women. The Pages: We would like to discuss a different topic. How important it is to have a good health, awareness of fashion to be successful? SA: I think that good health is needed to be successful. Fashion is the symbol of good health because you can’t have proper fashion without good health. So you will also have to take care of your health. But women are indifferent in this aspect. They take the leftover food after have had their foods. Those who are working they should take their food at the due time. If anyone can make him smart, well dressed along with his/her skills, these will be a plus point for him. The Pages: which recognition do you like most- a mother, an entrepreneur, a teacher as you are teaching now? SA: I would like to introduce myself as a women entrepreneur because a mother I have discharged my duties for my children properly. I have also done the required things for my husband and for the other members of my family. But I have many things left to be done for my country. That’s why I would like to do something for the women as an entrepreneur. When I see a women become self sufficient by taking the help from me, I feel proud. That’s why I am very comfortable to introduce me as a entrepreneur.

LIGHTING UP The Pages: How much change have you seen in fashion and lifestyle from your student life to till now in our country? SA: Huge changes are seen now. Nowadays female with makeup are seen more than that of our time. When we were in college we used to use lipstick & other sorts of simple things and there were no beauty parlor. There are so many things are available now. However they look pretty good. A young woman will be fashionable nothing wrong is there but that should be suitable like if I wear a dress of a model, I will not be looking good & vice versa. The Pages: You are in teaching profession now, along with your other profession how do you feel now? SA: Very nice! I was a student of DU and right now teaching there. I really like it. When we are the student there was no Internet facility at the time. Nowadays students are learning more and becoming smart and confident. At our time we were very innocent. The Pages: Tell us something about your life, your family. Do you have any dissatisfaction in your life? SA: If I say this that would be losing my parents in my early age. They did not see my current socio economic success. My father always wants to see me established. My husband, father in law and mother in law always help me in this regard but when I see others women are deprived from the so. It pains me however I am very happy in my family with my husband along with two sons and four grandsons

Who amongst us have never heard a song or doesn't murmur a tune, now and then, in their minds at least??? I venture to guess the answers as “None.” It is one of the most available forms of art that is entangled with our life so

closely that we don’t even realize how it would feel if we had never listened to a song. Surprising, isn’t it?? Either it is religious or thematic or just for commercial purposes, songs have become an inseparable part of human civilization. It cannot be compared to a life essential matter but still it means more than anything else to the music lovers.

In musical term a song represents a composition of voice or voices, performed by singing or with musical instruments. But a song can be played with only musical instruments without anyone singing. This type of song is known as instrumental or a musical piece. Often songs are only performed by singing without any musical instruments, like cappella songs. The words (lyrics) of songs are mostly of a poetic, rhyming nature, though they may carry religious viewpoints or free prose. But this is not what I wished to tell you guys. I wanted to talk about the way a song is created, what it takes to make a song that takes us to ride emotions and feelings. Every single song represents the toil, hard work and dream of an artist. We complain, we share,

IC

we love, we hate, we get used to those songs and we indulge and define so much more of our emotions to or through songs. But how many of us had ever given serious thought about how these songs are created? Do we even really care to know how it is done? The answer will make people sad who are into music and really into these sorts of things. Then let’s not make anyone anymore sad. We are going to a take brief journey and get some insights about this creative process. Musicians like Elton John who has had a natural gift can write down a song quite effortlessly. He then tunes them. This process is quite similar to the film editing process. He changes the words as the tune progresses; sometimes the tune is changed while the words remain intact. At a point, he makes changes in both the words and sound he is creating. This method is followed by many song writers and composers while there are other thousands of ways to create songs. John Lennon did this song writing thing quite strangely. He didn’t feel good about creating a song from nothing. He would take an existing song and then replace the lyrics with his own words. When it was done he would create new melody for his lyrics but that would also be very close the original song in term of the structure. It’s strange how simply these beautiful minds work. Some artists jam together to create a new song. With the technological advancement, jamming sessions and recording methods are allowing people to compose song with less time, effort and money. This process requires lots of technical knowledge and ability. But the important tool is to create a song that touches heart is the creative mind of an artist. As a fellow underground musician I have tried several times to write and compose a new song but I could never get it done completely. I pick up my guitar then start to play the usual songs I know then I try to break the melody and add some of my variations to those parts. Then I again put those broken part together and change them as the rhythmic and tonal needs. Sometimes I start playing pieces out of the blue and those notes give me satisfaction as I play further to bind them into a song. So even for me I never have a definite process to write a song and melody. I personally know a local underground band name “Heretic.” Their song

MUSIC

Is it ready? Not yet, hold your horses!! These are just some experiences of musicians that allow us to walk along with them. It sounds easy but the endless effort and struggle behind a song can’t be imagined unless you walk on the same path. A song with soul touches our inner selves. And to create a song with soul there is no definite paths or techniques. A computer program may have pre

defined instructions but there is no easy way out for this song writing roller coaster. The sleepless nights, clouds of thoughts, ecstasy of finding the perfect words, soothing melody are like shrines that need to be visited for a song writer or composer. Many have reached those places and as a result we have so many beautiful songs

around us. I hate to think of a world where there is no song. I don’t even want to know how my lonely walk would make me feel if there is no song in my music player on the way back home from work. So respect those creative minds who allow us to enjoy our own feelings with their words and tunes as they were our own.

making process is quite similar to me but they do these things as a group. Guitarists are mostly involved making riffs, breaking down verse and chorus parts. Then the whole sound is analyzed and added with further structural changes with vocals line up and drumming variations. Bass groove is added at the very end to make things spicy and tasty. But this whole process takes lots of evenings and nights of hard work, sometimes despair, sometimes hopes and new dreams.

Implant

The Implant is a small flexible stick or rod that is put under the skin of upper arm. It releases a hormone called Progestogen and as a result ovulation is stopped. Implants can be inserted by a doctor or a nurse. Insertion of Implants takes as little time as an injection. To insert or remove the Implant, the doctor or nurse uses local anesthesia and makes a tiny cut in the upper arm of an implant recipient. When the implant is removed, fertility returns to normal. Things to remember Periods may stop, be irregular or longer.

Intrauterine device (IUD)

IUDs are small plastic and copper devices which are put into the uterus. It stops sperm reaching an egg, and may also stop a fertilized egg implanting in the uterus. IUDs can be inserted by a doctor or nurse within 15–20 minutes. It can be uncomfortable or painful sometimes. The IUD has two threads which hang through the opening of the uterus. A doctor or nurse can remove the IUD by pulling gently on the threads. When the IUD is removed, fertility returns to normal. Things to Remember Periods may be heavier or longer or more painful. Availability Consultation and methods are available in Mari Stops clinic, Urban Primary Health Care Centers and other NGO run clinics in urban areas. In rural areas these methods are available up to community level government hospitals and clinics.

Globally, more than half of all pregnancies are unintended and in Bangladesh approximately one-third of all pregnancies are either unintended or mistimed. Unintended pregnancy significantly leads to maternal mortality and morbidity in developing countries like ours. Pregnancy is a sweet dream to every mother and every parent dreams of a healthy baby. For ensuring both the mother's and baby’s health, there is no alternative of birth spacing. When a couple has one or two children, they may either decide not to have any more children or space the next birth conveniently. Using temporary or short term family planning method is not an appropriate option for them, while Long Acting Reversible Methods (LARCs) are better and more effective alternatives. LARCs include Intrauterine Devices (IUDs) and Implants. Typically these methods are very effective and failure rate is less than 1% per year.

From ancient many natural ingredients are

being used by girls and women to enhance their beauty and retain their youth for longer periods, like milk, yoghurt, papaya, etc. These have been key ingredients used for skin care by women and their use transcends the barriers of time to say the least. Spotless Teeth While brushing your teeth, add a pinch of salt on your toothpaste. Brush your teeth twice a day in the same manner. The grains of salt act as scrubbers. Other than that if you scrub your teeth with cinnamon after brushing, it will clean any marks from the teeth. Taking care of blackening Lips Twice a day apply a mixture of skimmed milk and the juice of unripe potatoes in equal proportions to your lips. The lactic acid in the milk acts as a natural bleach. Apply the juice of green coriander on your lips before going to bed. The Vitamin C, phosphorous and chlorine in the coriander acts as a natural bleach and helps to reduce blackening of the lips. Reducing Dryness and blackening of the Elbows • Apply a mixture of green bananas and tamarind to your elbows. Wash off after it dries. • Grind and scrape a mixture of sugar and lemons to your elbows and then wash off with cold water. • Properly grind milk soaked masoor dal. Keep yourself fresh Boil lemons, rose petals and Pudina leaves in water. When it cools off, store in the refrigerator. Apply this mixture on your entire body with cotton. This prevents body odor. Pudina and rose act as antiseptic and is very advantageous for the skin. Makeup in this Weather Warm-up In this warm weather it is better not to apply too much makeup on yourself. But when there is a party, you cannot actually go without applying any makeup at all. In those times, care must be taken so that the makeup doesn’t melt in the heat, ruining the entire outlook. First off, base makeup. It’s better not to apply any foundations in the daytime. If the party is at night, choose a liquid based foundation. Choose the shade of the foundation according to your skin tone and type. Next on the list is eye makeup. You can use concealers in order to hide the shadows under your eyes. Kajal actually suits all eyes. So don’t forget to apply kajal on your eyes. Match eyeliner proportionally with the kajal. But remember to take care so that the eyeliner and mascara are waterproof. Otherwise it will be ruined as you sweat. Apply an eye shadow with the color matching your dress. But it is wise not to use one with a deep color. You can apply a light eye liner under the eyebrows. This will bring a soothing tone to your makeup. You can apply a blush on the two cheeks matching your skin tone. Prioritize the color of the lipstick in case of lip makeup. Dark colors like maroon should not be used and for natural effects apply lip gloss. Lip gloss over lipstick will look quite elegant at a night time party. Finally comes, the hair. The entire outlook of the makeup, so far, depends on the condition of the hair. If you have short hair it’s better to blow dry and keep it unbound. But it’s better to bind your hair in case of long hair. In this way, your hair won’t get untidy. And presto! You’re ready to party. But you must be cautious about the comfort of your dress. If you are not fashioning a comfortable dress the entire outlook might be ruined on that account.

OR T C W E E I S V G R N E I V ANK B AN O F O T N E DEVELOPMADESH SINCE 1972 IN BANGL Mannan

Banks are the mainstay of

financial systems of Bangladesh playing vital role for socio economic development. Though, at present, a large number of Non Banking Financial Institutions (NBFIs) are operating in the financial sector, yet their proportionate share is not very significant (less than 5% of the financial system’s assets). Bank is a financial establishment which uses, money deposited by customers for investment, pays it out when required, makes loans at interest, exchanges currency etc. According to Bangladesh Bank Annual Report (2012-2013), a total of 55 Banking Financial Institutions (BFIs) and 31 NBFIs were operating on June 30, 2013. Out of 55 BFIs, there are 4 State-owned Commercial Banks (SCBs), 4 State-owned Development Financial Institutions (DFIs), 38 Private Commercial Banks (PCBs) and 9 Foreign Commercial Banks (FCBs). The SCBs, DFIs, PCBs and FCBs are holding 26.00%, 62.20%, 5.50%, and 6.30% respectively of total assets in banking systems. The banking system of Bangladesh has undergone significant changes over the last 41 years: there have been new banks, new instruments, new opportunities, and new reforms and along with these new challenges. After the liberation war, and the eventual independence, Bangladesh inherited an undiversified and undeveloped financial system, which was overwhelmingly dominated by the commercial banks. Out of historic necessity, Government of Bangladesh restructured all the banks through nationalization and reorganization (except a few foreign bank branches) and made them to achieve the economic objectives of the government. The then Dhaka branch of State Bank of Pakistan was renamed as Bangladesh Bank (Central Bank of Bangladesh) in pursuance of Bangladesh Bank Order, 1972. The Banks of Bangladesh started operation under a regime of rigid government control and central bank regulations. The regulations covered fixation of interest rate on deposits and credits, direction of credit to public sector enterprises and priority sectors, directed expansion of

banks branches etc. During the period 1972 – 1982, the urban rural proportion of branches, deposits and credit improved significantly in favour of rural areas and thus satisfied the economics objectives of the government in regard to extending in banking services to the rural areas and extending generous credit to public manufacturing enterprises. But the loans were handed out to the public sector without commercial considerations, that banks had poor capital base, provided poor customer services and didn’t have any market-based monetary instruments. But mostly, because loans were given out without commercial sense, and because they took a long time to call a loan non-performing, and once they did so, recovery under the erstwhile judicial system was so abjectly expensive, their loan recovery was abysmally poor. While the government made a point of intervening everywhere, it didn’t set up a proper regulatory system that would diagnose such problems and correct them. Hence, banking concepts like profitability and liquidity was alien to bank managers, and capital adequacy took backseat. In 1982, the first reform program was initiated, where the government denationalized two of the six nationalized commercial banks and permitted local private banks including a number of Islami Banks to create competition in the banking sector. But the regulatory structure which was totally dominated by economic regulations was

BUSINESS neither restructured in favor of prudential and neither information regulations nor the legal framework for debt recovery as well as recovery efforts of the banks improved at all. As a result, post 1982 period witnessed a further deterioration in operational efficiency instead of improving. Therefore, banking structure in Bangladesh1982- 89, was characterized by excessive government interferences, absences of prudential and information regulations in the overall regulations in the overall regulatory structure and inadequate legal support for debt recovery, which ultimately reflected in declining profitability of the banking systems. In 1986, a National Commission on Money, Banking and Credit was appointed to recover the problems of the banking sector and a number of steps were taken for the recovery targets for the nationalized commercial banks and development financial institutions and prohibiting defaulters from getting new loans, yet, the efficiency of the banking sectors could not be improved. The Financial Sector Adjustment Credit (FSAC) and Financial Sector Reform Programmed (FSRP) were formed in 1990, upon contracts with the World Bank with the objective to remove government distortions and lessen the financial repression. Based on the finding of those initiatives some measures were taken to bring discipline in the Banking sector. These measures were: decontrol of deposit and lending rates and making them flexible according to market forces, strengthening of criteria /procedure for loan classification and provisioning greater autonomy or self regulations of banks, improvement of capital positions of Banks, strengthening Bangldesh Bank’s role in the field of supervision of banks, protection of banks for shouldering the cost of subsidized loan and transferring the cost to the government , adoption of indirect and market oriented monetary policy instruments , strengthening the operation of SCBs and PCBs , ensuring enabling legal environment by enacting Bank Companies Act, 1991 and Money Loan Court Act 1990. In 1992, one Financial Sector Reform Project (FSRP) was also instituted at the Bangladesh Bank to assist in implementing the above measures, especially to make SCBs commercially viable for subsequent privatization and help PCBs to increase their share in total commercial banking. The Money Loan Court Act 1990 helped the Banks to establish legal framework to recover the defaulted loans and turn into financial discipline. Bangladesh Bank

also instructed to maintain minimum capital requirement, classification and provision of loan. Till 1995, the capital requirement of the Banks was linked to deposit and fixed at 6% of total demand and time liabilities. Even after injection of a large amount of fresh capital by government, there was capital shortfall to the extent of 6% & 8% respectively on the part of SCBs and PCBs as on December 1994. Since 1996 Bangladesh Bank started calculating capital adequacy of the Banks as per internationally accepted norm of 8% of risk weighted assets (BASEL-I) where the credit risk only was taken in to consideration for calculation of risk weighted assets. According to new requirement, capital shortfall of SCBs and PCBs increased to 30% and 20% respectively as on December 1996. Bangladesh bank revised the requirement of loan classification and provisioning to achieve international standard which increased the classification loan (29% to 33% for SCBs and 25% to 35% for PCBs) and provisioning requirement (provision shortfall increased 32% to 55% for SCBs and 36% to 46% PCBs). In order to increase the operational efficiency of the Banks during 1992-1996 , FSRP consultant developed various tools like Lending Risk Analysis (LRA), Large Loan Reporting Systems (LLRS), New Loan Ledger Card (NLLC), Performance Planning Systems (PPS), Management Information Systems (MIS) and CAMEL rating of the Bank by Bangladesh Bank. The FSRP failed to achieve efficient resource allocation in terms of access to credit by productive sectors. The review of the outcomes of the FSRP was also done under the Structural Adjustment Participatory Review Initiatives (SAPRI) in 2000. Since 2001 , Bangladesh Bank took a number of steps towards the progress of banking in Bangladesh which were : formulation of large loan policy , single exposure borrower limit, loan rescheduling and write off policy , large loan restructuring scheme, steps for recovery of default loan, enactment of Money Loan Court Act 2003, Money Laundering prevention Act 2002, Credit Risk Grading, Core Risk management, online banking, Anti Terrorism Act , 2009, financial inclusion, school banking, farmers

accounts, green banking , corporate social responsibility etc . Considering complexity and diversity in banking industry and to make the banks’ capital requirement more risk sensitive, Bangladesh Bank prepared guidelines as per BASEL-II to maintain capital for the banks. Under the BASEL-II, capital requirement is determined by considering the three risks i,e credit risk, market risk and operational risk. Under Basel-II, banks in Bangladesh are required to maintain the Minimum Capital Requirement (MCR) at 10.0% of the Risk Weighted Assets (RWA) or Taka 4.0 billion in capital, whichever is higher of which 5.00% must be in core capital. The BASEL –II guidelines has been effective form July 01, 2011. The capital adequacy ratio of SCBs and PCBs as on June 30, 2013 were 1.20% and 11.40% respectively. Recently Bangladesh Bank introduced Agent Banking Concepts.

ECOMMERCE WILL INCREASE WOMEN PROPRIETORS IN

BANGLADESH Fahmy

To be continuation from my last

publications, this time I'm going to write how Ecommerce will help women in Bangladesh. The women in Bangladesh are still under developed in the economic area, where as the women of this country hold more than 40% of the total populations in Bangladesh. From this percentage we have only 2% - 3% (apart from the garments working women) women are being enlisted as entrepreneurs and rest aren't working in any institutionalized profession or business. The rest are mostly engaged as house wives, maintaining their households, and looking altering children. We can easily utilize these women' as female entrepreneurs through the eCommerce Business Ideas. What is eCommerce: there are a number of different ways eCommerce can de defined as, but the basic point of eCommerce is usually associated with buying and selling over the internet, or conducting any transaction involving the transfer of ownership or rights to use goods or services through a computer/smart phone mediated network. A more complete definition is: E-commerce is the use of electronic communications and digital information processing technology in business transactions to create, transform, and redefine relationships for value creation between or among organizations, and between organizations and individuals. To me Electronic commerce or e-commerce refers to a wide range of online business activities for products and services. It also pertains to “any form of business transaction in which the parties interact electronically rather than by physical exchanges or direct physical contact.” In today's world most of the countries are now involving or expanding their economic growth through the eCommerce business. For us; we can also contribute to increase our country’s economic growth by using this concept and develop eCommerce business industries in Bangladesh. For an example: In our country most women have the experience of making varities

of products by their own hands while they are free or at home. There are thousands of women who can make Nakshi katha, appliqué design in bed cover, women’s dresses, boutique design in the women’s dresses, decoration pieces, etc. At present this kind of products are sold to the shop or shopping malls, boutique houses. According to this process the designer of the product or the owner will not be able to sell the product directly to the end users. Due to this reason the products inventor’s or designer’s profits will become lower than the shop owners or malls. As per my demonstrations of the present business scenario in Bangladesh; a range of women entrepreneurs/inventors/designers cannot construct their business in sophisticated way. Find out the business solutions for the women proprietors to increase their profitability and to provide a standard business module where a women proprietor can do the business from home or abroad. The eCommerce business solutions will provide a complete business solution to all the women proprietors. Owing to The eCommerce business solutions, you can prepare your business according to your own way where you as the proprietor will discover the customers or end users directly on your own platform. How to start your business through eCommerce business solutions: there

are two different modules which exist right at this moment: 1. Creating own web site with your own domain. A. Contact with web site developer and share your requirements, ideas, colours etc. B. Purchase a domain for your business web site C. Design the site considering your product group D. Start uploading your products, size of the products with the measurement and the product price. E. Keep API system processing into the site 2. Creating page through the proprietor own Facebook account. A. Go to your Facebook account B. Under the proprietor personal account create a page with the name of the business C. Fill up the information’s in an attractive manner into the page

D. Start uploading your products, size of the products with the measurement and the product price. Now the proprietor needs to select the module first, on which module they are going to start doing the eCommerce business. To preparing and designing of the module proprietor must need to concentrate on the product groups, items, and the product price. Once the initial stage is completed you need to start promoting your module to others or you can share the car module to others. To make your business promotions you must need to visit other similar eCommerce business. Now is the time to start putting your idea to make your business successful, operate the business as you want to operate. The eCommerce business solution is now a golden opportunity for the entire Bangladeshi women proprietors, innovators and those who are doing small business inside the country. This is now time for us to spread this message to entire Bangladesh. To be continued.

SPORTS Recently a fatal disease has attacked in our country. It changes our daily routine. From children to old aged everyone is struggled from these disease: it’s CRICKET FEVER….. Yes we are now in cricket fever. Now T20 world cup cricket is running in our country. It is the biggest sports event ever held in Bangladesh. After a very successful arrangement of 2011 cricket world cup co-hosts for the first time with neighbors India and Sri Lanka, Bangladesh got the individual organizing responsibility for arranging this cricket tournament. So far Bangladesh becomes most successful organizer as T20 world cup cricket history…….There are a lot of crazy cricket fans here & the popularity is outstanding. After winning the sixth ICC trophy in Malaysia the crowd outburst into joy in order to celebrate victory…… no one had seen this type of celebration before. School, College, University, in road side, village, town every where people came to the street & enjoyed this victory…..then another form of craziness was found after the victory

against Pakistan at 1999 world cup. After this win Bangladesh could not see wins for 5 years…… The time line between 2004 to 2010 craziness on cricket rises gradually, but after 2010 to till now cricket craze is raised so much that now Bangladesh has become the most cricket crazy nation in the world. Our audiences, supporters, arranging capabilities surprised the whole world. Opening ceremony program of world cup 2011 is the 2nd luxurious sports event till now. It is now not only a game…..it has now become a part of celebration also. Young generations are wearing our national cricket team jersey which is rarely found a couple of year ago!!! A few years ago women were not interested in cricket…but now??? They are watching cricket, playing cricket & love to play cricket. If we look at our cricket stadiums, they were not well-equipped, not so lucrative….. But now, we have 8 test

venues, among them Mirpur Sher-E-Bangla National cricket stadium is one of modern highly equipped stadiums in the world. On the occasion of T20 world cup cricket, Shylet divisional stadium has been upgraded which situated at the middle of tea garden is one of beautiful cricket stadium of South Asian region. It has excellent geographical position, hills, greenery tea garden around it. It’s most attracting part is its grassy mound aptly named ‘Green Gallery’. For T20 world cup a theme song has been composed by renowned Bangladeshi singer Fuad Al Muktadir and sung in a mixture of Bangla and English by a group of young vocalists. The song, called ‘Char Chokka Hoi Hoi’ which has been roughly translated into ‘Fours, Sixes, Fun and Games’…..The official song for the ICC World T20 is apparently going to beat what Jennifer Lopez, Pitbull and Claudia Leitte came up with for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, with its encouraging lyrics and ‘bombastic rocking’ tunes. According to News.com.au, with inspirational lyrics like ’16 cricket nations, how exciting’ and ‘bombastic rocking’, along with an energetic beat and fast-paced tempo, the song captures the energy of the country’s fanatical cricket fans. The report mentioned that the video clip features an accompanying dance aiming to exceed the famous ‘Waka Waka’ dance of Shakira in the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa…… The latest dance is already going to be spread as viral in the sub-continent after the International Cricket Council (ICC) throw a challenge to local universities to perform it in a public space in three of host cities ‘with the aim of making it the most popular song among the youth in the country. Many universities across the country have started arranging their own flash mobs set to the theme song and uploading them to YouTube. This song is now the most watched flash mob video in You Tube…..Crazy Fan!! Arranging it successfully & lucratively, Bangladesh Government expenses a lot for decorating Dhaka, Chittagong & Sylhet. At night the cities look like as wedding house because of gorgeous decoration and lighting ….. It inspires peoples to watch cricket at stadium….. But due to insufficient tickets, many of them can’t enjoy live matches. Surprisingly it’s a record in the history of cricket that all tickets had been sold within 72 hours. What a craze!!!!! Are you a cricket crazy fan?????

Bangladeshi chef

Reshad Mahmod is as renowned for his sunny outlook as he is for his light, sunshine-infused food. He is one of the most famous chefs in Bangladesh. He obtained a diploma in culinary arts at the city and guilds of London institute. Even though he is busy promoting his new cooking show on TV, the rising culinary star found time to sit down and talk to The Pages magazine about cooking, his multi-cultural influences and why he'll take intuition in the kitchen over formal training any day. 1. Where does your inspiration come from to become chef? Reshad: I listen to my heart…my nature, my instincts.

2. Initially you were an artist in another field before working with food. How and why did you make this change? Reshad: It’s still an art to me as we call it the culinary arts. It’s just art in another form. It’s still art. 3. What are your essential ingredients, the things you couldn’t live without? Reshad: My confidence… 4. How important do you feel formal training is? Reshad: Training is the mother of all hard work. It changes your views towards your work… 5. What is your favorite recipe – or the one you are most proud of? Reshad: My recipes for some continental curries. I am proud of all of my recipes, to be very frank.. 6. Do you think we have lost touch with the 'dining table' as it were, preferring instead to eat meals on the go or in front of the television? Reshad: In anyone's busy lifestyle nowadays, this is a common scene. But still we should practice as we used to. Yes I guess we have lost touch Or I can say the percentage has gone down a little bit...to bring it back up we should bring variety to our daily cooking just to compete with restaurant food. We need a strong kitchen to live a healthy life. 7. What are your future plans for Cooking? Reshad: I’m always looking to work on great events and planning on opening my own place in the future….

INTERIOR DESIGN

Light is something that everyone

is familiar with. It comes from many sources, the main one being our sun, and it provides us with the energy needed for life. Without it, life as we know it would not exist. Most of the information we receive about our surroundings is provided by our eyes, we live in a visual world. The eye is the most important sense organ in the human body, handling around 80% of all incoming information. Without light, that would be impossible. Too much or too little light, glare or distorted colors impact on what we perceive, distract our attention and cause visual fatigue. In all areas of life and throughout the working world, good and appropriate lighting is a prime requirement for enabling us to see clearly, enjoy a sense of well being, perform concentrated fatigue-free work and perceive and interpret important information and our surroundings correctly. This calls for good, professional lighting design. Lighting is likely the most important factor in interior design. Often clients will spend absurd amounts of cash into furniture and overlook lighting. The most expensive materials & interiors are never shown to their fullest without a good lighting scheme behind them. Incorporating the lighting as part of the scheme considering how the light works with the materials and finishes and creates different moods within the space is essential to a successful interior. The lighting design should always be considered as early as possible as part of the overall scheme and to give more attention of following things:

BRIGHTNESS

When we are in a room, our gaze instantly switches from near to far. Where there are marked differences in brightness between these two zones, our eyes face the constant need to re-adapt and thus get tired more quickly. Visual performance and sense of wellbeing diminish. Where the differences in brightness are not marked enough, however, the room makes a monotonous impression. Bright wall and entrance lighting helps people get their bearings in a room, makes for better contrasts and emphasizes room zones. It also makes the room look a livelier.

GLARE

Glare is one of the most disturbing side-effects of lighting. Direct glare caused by marked contrast differences between very bright and very dark

78 PAGES

surfaces or due to unshielded lamps in our line of vision place a strain on our eyes and lead to fatigue and mistakes through loss of concentration. To avoid direct glare from lamps, care should be taken to select only luminaries which are suitable for workplace lighting.

SHADOWING

Where there is light, there is also a shadow. To ensure that shadows do not impede our view when writing, the light should fall - for a right-handed person- from the left if the light comes from the right, we write in the shadow of our own hand.

COLOR

The way we perceive colors under artificial light depends on the color rendering properties of the lamps. Lamps with good color rendering properties produce natural colors, lamps with poor color rendering properties cause color distortion.

Of all the websites, after google, facebook is the most popular site that we browse every day. In 2004, Mark Zuckerberg, an American computer programmer along with his college roommates and some fellow students of The Havard University, founded this social networking website. And by this 10 years facebook has become the world's best community site. New doors of communication have been achieved. You surely lack of a source of entertainment if you haven’t heard about facebook before reading this. However, considering from a positive perspective of view, social Media has brought out a revolutionary change in last few years. Facebook has involved millions of lives with them. But is that only for they are a media of social communication? The answer ought to be yes but it seems not to be so. There are many more Social Media over the web but what’s the difference that made facebook to stand by in current position? Facebook had a strategy to involve more and more people with them and they choose to become an entertainment hub. That surely is a big deal for new generation. Previously if a person, mostly teenagers wanted to know about his favorite artist, he should have checked and searched many websites for authentic news. Facebook made it easy by verified page for artists. Their fans and followers are just a notification away from their latest updates. This is same true for movies, serials or other entertainment source. Before movie launch, now producers focus more on their facebook wall rather postering on physical walls. However, if the question is about getting news, news channels finally have stated broadcasting their breaking news or updates via facebook posts. It’s now like just log in into facebook, the whole word, from latest news about your country to Music Album launch program in South Africa – all is in front of u. Why to choose for browsing pages over pages while you are having all these in a single webpage according to your likes and u are getting all of this while chatting with your friends or reading their posts! Another feature of facebook is that the local fun pages those are posting memes, funny photo comments or even videos. There are some renowned pages like “Moja Loss” or “Murad Takla” who are serving both the entertainment and awareness

purpose. Moja Loss has started working with countries renowned brands and they are making funny videos for them for facebook upload. Quality contents are coming out by these pages. On a whole, the view about facebook entertainment is still inspiring. It was just a seed over a year ago. With time, it is becoming a big tree with different branches, some containing fruit and some containing harmful pests. The choice is individuals about what to choose out of it. In Bangladesh facebook got its massive introduction in 2007. And now it has become an addiction. It has become a trend to open up a facebook account just get upgraded as the time pass by. In earlier times and still children's using facebook is a matter of concern to the guardians. Many of us prefer to chat and play games on facebook instead of studying. In the name of entertainment, like the other means are served here with a touch of art. Facebook matters are beginning to get more priority than our real life dealings. Virtual friends are now our prime cash issue here! Seemingly, our pastimes and source of recreations are getting confined to only a pc or a little mobile phone. Other than that, spending times on facebook has got a great impact for the spouses, particularly the wives. In some extend a virtual friend becomes a even a closer thread. However, this is nothing but an eye opener from me for my readers. And it is never a blasphemy for facebook. Facebook is certainly a good, benevolent means of communication. The problem is in us- the users. Merits and demerits of a thing most of the times depend on the way how we utilize it. I, personally, find facebook a very potential and helpful bridge of communication. We can keep a regular contact and online co-respondance with our friends and relatives wherever they live in the world. We can easily get their photos and make video conversations with them at once. What a great blessing it is! Distance is now no matter, we are always in touch and for the communication it takes very little expenses. As a useful source of entertainment facebook is used best in the world. It has become in recent times a good media of publishing news and information. It needs just a few seconds to

spread out a message or news to the world people on facebook. By the blessing of this rapid communication, some remarkable social movements had been possible in recent years, the Shahbag movement for the punishment of our liberation war traitors is a good example in this respect. By dint of facebook we the people of Bangladesh have become the first nation in the world to establish another glorious example of donating and collecting blood for the patients from online. It is only in Bangladesh where a large number of facebook users use facebook just to collect blood and call for blood donation. Other helpful tasks are also undertaken by our enthusiastic young generation such as helping affected areas and the people, arranging money for helping the poors, arranging treatment facilities for the poor patients, offering warm clothes among the slum dwellers in winter etc.

Facebook is out and out a good and helpful source for us as a platform for recreation as well as inspiration. Trend of using facebook in Bangladesh is quite different and outstanding from the other nations in the world. The people of the other countries use facebook to express their daily life feelings, iesomeone bought a car, he updates that status, someone is going to a tour, he updates that status and so on. Facebook is to them a platform of expressing their self related feelings. But our people are effectively using this platform to express out their thoughtful and talented opinions regarding every current issue. Our young generation is now pondering over the social and political affairs, views are getting shared and public awareness comes in effectively. Thus it helps much to guide the ruling parties to the right way. The govt. is also now counting the facebook opinions positively. It is really a good hope for us. Moreover, it is another hope that our young creative generation is prac

A PDA could store your contact info and a to-do list, and could sync with your computer. Eventually, PDAs gained wireless connectivity and able to send and receive e-mail. Meanwhile Cell phones gained messaging capabilities too. PDAs then added cellular phone features, while cell phones added more PDA-like (and even computer-like) features. The result was the Smartphone. While almost all cell phones include some sorts of software (even the most basic models these days include an address book or some sorts of contact manager, for example), a Smartphone

has the ability to do more. It may allow you to create and edit Microsoft Office documents--or at least view the files. It may allow you to download apps, such as personal and business finance managers, handy personal assistants, or, well, almost anything. Or it may allow you to edit photos, get driving directions via GPS, and create a playlist of digital tunes. Smart phones can access the Web at higher speeds, thanks to the growth of 4G and 3G data networks, as well as the addition of Wi-Fi support to many handsets. Still, while not all Smartphone offer high-speed Web access, they all offer some sorts of access. You can use your Smartphone to browse your favorite sites. Smart phones include a QWERTY keyboard at times. This means that the keys are laid out in the same manner they would be on your computer keyboard--not in alphabetical order on top of a numeric keypad, where you have to tap the number 1 to enter an A, B, or C. The keyboard can be hardware (physical keys that you type on) or software (on a touch screen, like you'll find on the iPhone). ...WHAT YOU PHOTOGRAPH People say that the eyes of a

person are the doorways to their soul. The eyes can actually iterate a lot more about a person than words ever could. Obviously there is no scientific method or any sophisticated instrument to look into the soul of a person. But perhaps there is a way to tell how one’s soul looks. When someone picks up a camera and shoots to capture a certain subject, the life of another person, a moment in time, they do so in order to remember that which has touched their souls through their eyes. Hence, one can actually claim, that the art of photography is a way of keeping a record of what a person’s soul is made of. The camera helps the soul to capture and cherish whatever attracts it at any one time. And thus, the pictures in someone’s portfolio or album are the actually words constituting the language of the soul. Well let’s leave speculation at that and hover closer to reality; let's get into the art of photography. Art itself is a form of human expression. There is no definition of art. In other words art has as many definitions as there are people in this world. Everyone sees the world in a different light and hence what you photograph is your own form of art. Let's talk about what you can do with a leisurely day and a camera in your hands.

walking - begin your own personal photo walk You may drift over to the Dhaka University area for some interesting shots intermingled with a touch of nature. If you go there and walk through Chobir Haat opposite to Art College you will definitely find some interesting subjects to photograph. You may also drift to the narrow streets of Old Dhaka and start clicking as you walk by some really ancient buildings and mosques. Chowkbazar, Shakharibazar, Nazimuddin Road and Bongshal are just a few of the streets that you would want to visit for a rich street photograpraphy portfolio. The diversity of different shops, people, the different colors lining the streets and buildings, the exotic food restaurants and even streets itself are pretty interesting for some even more interesting snaps.

Jahangirnagar University in Savar or the various nature parks in Gazipur. They are only a short bus ride away if you are worried about travel arrangements and have exotic and unique compositions to offer for your lens. These are just some of the places in and around Dhaka that might interest a person looking for interesting photographs. The basic rule of street photography is always being prepared. If so, great shots are just waiting to be taken out on the streets. So don't be hesitant. Go out and reach out. The world around you is an interesting place. Explore and click away. Nourish your soul with what it craves. That's all for this issue but more is coming in the next under this segment. So stay tuned and stay vigilant.

If you want to get even closer to nature you might want to visit

People often think that they need fancy subjects, advanced photography gear and lighting equipment in order to take good photographs. But that is in no way the case. Your city, Dhaka, itself offers abundant photographic opportunities each day. You just have to be there and ready to click. If you have some free time in your hands, wait no longer. MOVIE REVIEW from ramp walks made her face familiar to people. Ruhee played the role of a Hindu woman in the periodic film, set in the wartime of ’71 in East Pakistan. As a director of ‘Shongram’ Munsur Ali said, 'Shongram' is a romantic drama set during the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation Struggle. He also quoted about Bangladesh Film Industry; ‘Bangladesh only imports films from Hollywood and Bollywood but cannot export its film to other countries but I wanted to change the situation by making a film which is of international standard and has a moving story about our country and people so that I can satisfy both local and international audiences.’

So far the film is running successfully. Hope it will continue few more weeks. If the film works than there must have been some light still remain for historical movie in Bangladesh.Day by day people are thinking about the commercial movie in Bangladesh. So we are hoping that audience will grip this film. Beside that the good news is that the film is also scheduled to be released primarily in 32 countries by this year.

A pioneer of our Language

Movement

Syed Mujtaba Ali

Shaila Rumana

WE all know Syed Mujtaba Ali as a comedian, a

linguist and a great storyteller, but how many among us know him as an eminent language movement activist and prominent supporter of our struggle for independance? Surely, his is a name to reckon with in modern Bangla literature. His first book Deshe Bideshe was declared as the best book of that year, and he was awarded the prestigious Narasinghe Das prize in 1949. Thirty of his other books are equally popular, and they speak volumes about his versatility and vast intellectual strength. But is Syed Mujtaba Ali an established language activist? Yes, he was. I had often heard about him as such from my elders but I had forgotten about his work until recently.

LITERATURE

Book Writer

Syed Mujtaba Ali The mother tongue of Ali was Bangla but he knew 15 other languages French, German, Italian, Arabic, Persian, Urdu, Hindi, Sanskrit, Marathi, Gujarati, Pashtu, English. Alongside Jajabor Ali was a trail-blazer of a unique category of Bengali writing. 'Ramya Rachana' in the Bengali language, an anecdotal story-telling, often based on real-life experiences, became immensely popular, mostly because of the attractive writing style of Ali. 'Deshe Bideshe', the story of his journey to and experiences in Kabul during his brief stint as a professor in a college there is still one of Ali's best works. Panchatantra is a collection of thoughts and short stories of his days in Europe, Cairo and Baroda, some already published in 'Desh' magazine. After the Partition of the Indian subcontinent into India and Pakistan in 1947, Ali went from India to then East Pakistan. He was one of the first to call for Bangla as East Pakistan's state language on November 30, 1947, at the Sylhet Kendriya Muslim Sahitya Samsad. He was a prominent activist and supporter of Bengali

as the national language of East Pakistan. In 1948, being the principal of Azizul Huq College, Bogra, he wrote an essay, 'The State Language of East Pakistan', which was printed in Chaturanga of Kolkata. During that time, the West Pakistan Rulers tried to impose Urdu as the only state language of East Pakistan even though Bangla was spoken by most of the people residing in the region. The government of Pakistan demanded an explanation. But Ali resigned and moved to India. Before doing so, he pointed out that the Mughals had been unable to impose the Persian tongue on our people. Finally, he had cautioned that if Urdu was still forced, then our people one day would revolt and break away from Pakistan. His prophecy came true in the following years; we fought for and achieved our independence from Pakistan in 1971. Mujtaba was most unwilling to leave the literary atmosphere of Calcutta and move to the small district town. However, some teachers and students went to Calcutta and finally persuaded him to join. In early 1949 he joined the college. It was an explosive time and the local students were getting involved in the emerging language movement. From the outset, conservative circles in the town did not view his appointment favorably, and they started conspiring against him. The college annual magazine was published soon after that, and some students wrote articles against the police oppression of students who had taken part in the language movement in Dhaka. All the materials for the magazine were selected long before Mujtaba had taken over, but he was accused of "inciting students for writing articles against the Pakistan government," and they even denounced his highly scholarly “Message from the Principal” published in the magazine. The magazine was banned and all its copies were confiscated. The contents of the magazine was republished as a book by Ekushey Publications in 2002 and anyone interested in reading the entirety of his scholarly speech should go through this book. So there you have it; Syed Mujtaba Ali – the fighter within a writer. This feature is a beacon for the ones who love to read and an inspiration to the ones who seldom read. But wherever you stand, his works are a must for

someone who wants to know more about our history as a nation and exquisite examples of Bengali literature.

Holi is an important festival to Hindus. It is celebrated at the end of the summer season on the last full moon day of the lunar month Phalguna (February/March), which usually falls in March, sometimes in late February. In Bangladesh, many members from the Muslim community also join their Hindu neighbors to celebrate the festival by smearing abeer (a coloured powder) and spraying water colours on each other. All Hindu males, females, and children come to the streets in the morning and throw colors to each other with the high volume music everywhere around. their country. ‘Amar Sonar Bangla’ was written and composed by the Bengali poet and Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore in 1905. The first ten lines of this song were declared as the national anthem of Bangladesh in 1971. The song was written during the partition of Bengal to unite the Bengalee people. The entrances and stage of the venue were decorated with photographs of liberation war heroes, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, President Abdul Hamid, Sheikh Hasina and Rabindranath Tagore. After two trials, participants sang the anthem making the record. They celebrated the achievement cheering and waving the national flags. The Guinness Committee will inform the news of the news record after 1 week time. The record will be filed under “Most people singing a national anthem simultaneously”.

Demonstrate some caution, if you are offered an opportunity which looks brilliant at first sight. Try to work out whether you are being manipulated, even if the offer is very flattering and looks good at first. You will have a much clearer vision in this respect from 23rd April.

ou are in a good position this month to enliven romance in an existing partnership, or to strengthen ties with a romantic partner, dear Virgo. For singles, meeting a special person is very possible, although it is unlikely to lead to a long-term relationship or coupling. Investments in stocks and other speculative matters could earn nice profits, although care should be exercised. You may find great joy and reward in your creative projects and hobbies, and could discover a new creative talent you never knew you had. Social engagements abound in April. This will in turn lead to situations which could give you doubts about yourself, especially where your relationships are concerned. You will have a tendency to compare yourself with others and try to measure your abilities. Even in areas where measurement would be impossible. The quincunx aspect from Venus to your sign will make you more demanding emotionally. It would be a good idea to moderate your approach so you can really satisfy your desires. The influence of Mercury will make you lack serenity, if you have to spend time on work of any substance. Your love-life and relations with those close to you will go through some tension, whether originating with you or your other half. You will emerge with differing points of view, which could cause you to dig your heels in regarding how you see your relationship. Take the time you need, before making judgments.

The ball is in someone else s court for the most part this month, dear Libra. Flattery will get you everywhere LIBRA

in April, as opposed to forcing your agenda on others, which can surely backfire. Just use it wisely! However, professionally you are feeling independent and ambitious. Working from home could figure in April. One-to-one relating appeals to you more than group activities or more casual connections, and the last week of April brings romantic opportunities. You are especially willing to compromise, negotiate, and make peace. Physical energy may be on the low side. Mercury's trine aspect to your sign will help you considerably to break free from certain received ideas and question some of your relationships, which will benefit from a few changes. The influence of Venus, also in trine aspect to your sign, will place the emphasis on your relationship, which will become more platonic, cerebral and richer in terms of exchanging ideas. However, Mars in your sign will very fortunately make your passionate tendencies more dynamic! On the other hand, you will have a tendency to create power struggles between yourself and your partner. Confrontation and opposition are not the best ways of asserting yourself. You will need to develop an atmosphere of calm to achieve this in reality and without conflict. Be cautious on the finance front: there are pitfalls waiting on the road ahead and you will need to identify them before committing yourself.

our focus in April, dear Scorpio, is routine work, acquiring new skills, and health. Romantic and social activities revolve around your working environment. You enjoy increased communications with children and lovers this month. The role of teacher could figure in April. Emotionality around the Full Moon on the 20th is par for the course. You can surprise others--and even yourself--with what comes bubbling up from within. From the 18-22, social, work, and learning opportunities abound. This is a good time to take a course and to grab the attention of an audience. You will need to show some altruism to avoid these tendencies! The trine from Jupiter to your sign will enable you to keep up an excellent level of morale throughout your altercations with others, thanks to the fact that you have no doubts in your values or basic reasons for your actions. Your love-life will need some respite! In fact, your love-life will have a tendency to pick up speed, which will bring you rapidly into the present in a very pleasant way, but one which will not favor taking a step back emotionally. Beware of not letting yourself be blinded by appearances during new encounters. To avoid this, bear in mind that actions speak louder than words!

The

first few weeks of April are all about having a good time, dear Sagittarius. It s time to enjoy yourself! Do watch for overspending, however, as you are especially attracted to speculative ventures just now. You could enjoy material benefits coming from real estate or family. Alternatively, you may have more resources with which to splurge on yourself, plumping up your nest or your store of personal possessions. A major STGITTARIUS purchase or sale is very possible. Love matters tend to be laced with a touch of drama, and romantic inclinations run high. The influence of Venus, also in sextile aspect to your sector, will make your love-life more dynamic with enriching exchanges, despite the fact that your partner will be more emotional than usual. Avoid making promises you won't be able to keep on the family front or in your circle of friends. The influence of Uranus will make you vulnerable to this. If you are single at the moment, new encounters will be refreshing and full of possibilities for developing into a relationship. On the other hand, you will have a tendency to attract people who are drawn to your energy and supportiveness, to reinforce their own self-confidence. So, be careful, you will need to be discerning before you move forward.

M

ore involvement with your immediate environment, community, and neighborhood figure this month, dear Capricorn. You tend to be sentimental or nostalgic now. If things are out of whack on the home front, you will do whatever you can to create a peaceful and stable atmosphere. You might focus on ways to earn money in or from your home. Loyalty and sensitivity in your relationships are more important to you than typically in April. From the 20th, friendships and casual connections come into focus and offer much enjoyment. You're also going to feel a need for solitude, which will enable you to evaluate matters effectively and make some good resolutions regarding the development of your plans. The influence of Mars, with his square aspect to your constellation, will give you distaste for superficial relationships. You should however make sure you don't isolate yourself too much! There will be a certain cooling-off in your love-life. You will instinctively have a tendency to take a step back before your partner's attempts to influence you, or what will seem like it. And in fact, you will too incline to be wary. You don't need to overdo it in order to maintain peace of mind in your relationships, this month.

ou are likely to discover resources that you never knew you had this month, dear Aquarius. Help seems to be there when you need it, quite magically. Imaginative undertakings could boost your income in April. You are especially good at mediating conflicts now. Smoothing over differences using your diplomacy skills figures. Good news arrives on the 21-22, and a romantic opportunity arises on the 27th. n spite of the square from Saturn to your sign and the quincunx aspect from Jupiter, the support from a sextile from Uranus will enable you to keep your promises. It will be in your finances in particular that events are going to go in your favor. You would do well to make good decisions with lasting effects and contribute to your stability. Your love-life will benefit from good fortune this month, especially from 6th April. The transit of Venus through your sector will emphasize the fact that it will be easy to break away from unhealthy relationships and establish others soon afterwards. You will be ready to make concessions, whilst still preserving your own values.

Financial security and enjoyment of the good things in life are important to you this month, dear Pisces.

Money matters figure strongly. This month, you especially value people who make you feel comfortable. Friendships can be especially supportive in April. A friend may be integral in achieving your goals, and partnering with a friend in some tangible way can be part of the picture. The 12-14 bring opportunities to shine for what you do best. Your confidence with love matters is strong, but you could be moving a little too fast! The semi-square aspects from Mercury and Venus to your sign will encourage you to get closer to people who are different from your friends or your social circles. Make sure you don't confuse wacky behavior in other people with creative fantasy! The Sun's transit from 21st April is going to re-launch your relationship with positive enthusiasm, placing associated pleasures closer within your reach. You won't lack intuition for finding the right place at the right time, possibly leading to remarkable encounters, which could turn into fulfilling relationships, even in the long term.
