EDITOR,S LETTER
EDITORIAL Eid -ul -Fitr is a unique festival. It has no connection with any historical event nor is it related to the changes of seasons or cycles of agriculture. It is not a festival related in any way to worldly affairs. Its significance is purely spiritual. It is the day when the Muslims thank Allah for having given them the will, the strength and the endurance to observe fast and obey His commandment during the holy month of Ramadhan. This day, in Muslim world, brings rejoicing and happiness. The rejoicing is not, however, at the departure of the month of Ramadhan; it is the happiness which man feels after successfully completing an important task. Bangladesh is the only place where we celebrate the Eid-ul-Fitr as no one else does. Our whole month show’s what kind of celebration freak nation we are. Before breaking the feast of everyday we share our food with the nearest and the dearest one of us! We love to eat. We buy our traditional ifter items which is our 400 year old obsession going on and on. Chalk Bazaar get noisier. Shopping malls gets even crowded. The parlors are full of people who want them to look beautiful in the holy occasion of Eid. From kids to the elders all sit together to color their hands with mehedi. We eat and we love to serve it with everyone. We shop not just only for us, we shop for our family, we shop for that guy who can’t even buy a piece of cloth. It’s our passion. It’s the obsession. What can be bigger then this? There is the hum and the ham songs going on everywhere because it is Eid and we are ready to celebrate indeed! And just for making this Eid even colorful and to date with our tradition of sharing and caring we have focused from the outfits and shopping’s to the households and from parlors to the home treatment. We have it all on this issue! Everything which you are wanting to know to make this Eid even better is here. Let us all celebrate this Eid together and make this occasion of celebration bright and soothing. It is my expectation that Almighty will bless his Rahmat on each and everyone of us. Be safe and happy this holy Eid. Eid Mubarak.

I think without her support things would have been different. If my family did not understand what the demands were, then to manage all these things would have been really difficult. My family has played a huge
role in [getting me to] where I am at the moment. Right from the start that was the unwritten law, that I only play cricket, I don't think of anything else, everything else will be looked after by my family. So I only focused on the game and nothing else at all, so that has allowed me to be stress-free and not worry about anything that is happening outside the field of cricket. It has been just the cricket field and my family, because my family has managed the rest of things. 25. You have said winning the World Cup was your dream. I am doing everything the way it should…. but still things going wrong. Some time it can happen with any body. See human being go through a process everything depends on your dedication, but some time luck can challenge your passion. That’s the time you need to show your dedication… 22.Isn’t it hard to stay fit? how do you manage that?! # Yes, Its tough to stay fit so long but not impossible. I am focused; on my goal so I maintain my life style, food habit, and regular practice everything. 23. G M R R OU TALENTS -by Omar
The achievement of the Ready
Made Garments (RMG) sector is now a marvel of the success of Bangladesh economy. Starting from the late 70s, the industry has grown steadily and today Bangladesh is one the biggest exporters of RMG in the world. At the early stage Some Bangladeshis received training from the Korean Company, Daewoo. After these workforces came back to Bangladesh, many of them broke ties with the factory they were

working for and started their own factories. As the largest contributor to the foreign exchange, the RMG sector is vital to the economy of Bangladesh. Despite the great strides made by the garments industry, significant challenges overcoming with RMG Talents. Continuous contribution of these female & male professional talents made, USA the largest importer of
Bangladeshi RMG products, followed by Germany, UK, France and other E.U countries. They played a vital role to snatch the export performance in the first quarter of fiscal 2014 has been quite robust — export earnings were 21.2 percent higher than the corresponding period of fiscal 2013. Export was high in all major markets. Exports record in first quarter would imply that a growth of
34 PAGES
DEVELOPING BANGLADESH 10.3 percent will be required over the next nine months to reach the target of 12.9 percent planned for the whole of fiscal 2014. The professional talents are ready to overcome the upcoming challenges to meet the fiscal goal. The talents are highly motivated to achieve the impressive growth with knitwear recording a rise of 24.4 percent and woven wear 23.9 percent over the corresponding period of fiscal 2013. RMG exports will need to register a growth of 8.6 percent over the next quarters from the same time last year if the overall RMG growth target of 12.2 percent for fiscal 2014 is to be achieved. This appears to be an attainable target in view of current trends and emerging market signals. Bangladesh is now very much involved with its working talent people to resolve any factor to make the journey over the upcoming months a particularly challenging one to navigate. Numerous textile associations support Bangladesh's industry. The main two that support the RMG sector are the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA). BGMEA represents 4,490 Bangladeshi talented export-oriented apparel manufacturers. The organization helps strengthen and promote the RMG sector by establishing a healthy business environment and cultivating relationships among the manufacturers, exporters and importers, with the goal of increasing Bangladesh's foreign exchange earnings. Since its inception in the late 1970s, the organization has helped increase RMG exports by 500 percent through the innovative & talented RMG Managements. BKMEA was established in 1996 and comprises about 1,700 knitwear manufacturers and exporters, representing the country's largest export-earning sector. The organization works to promote sector interests, promoting and developing the sector's capacity as well as the market. Both organizations work to improve compliance status, and provide education and spread awareness of basic rights to create the environment for the working talent. The apparel industry that accounts for more than 75 percent of exports from Bangladesh is making a huge of skilled professionals, especially at mid-managerial levels. The current need is also likely to strengthen by 2021; immediate steps are taken to develop and nurture a pool of talent by rigorously implementing structured training and necessary curriculum modifications by the help of University Grant Commission, National University

& Technical Education concerns. Now a day, the readymade garments sector is the main engine of our national economy and so, the RMG sector develop and groom significantly with the skilled manpower as demand is much higher than availability. Also the apparel manufacturer playing a vital role to build ups a high-caliber employees in all level management. The entire apparel engineering & supply chain management is made up of several parties, from the initial raw material supplier to the consumer purchasing the products. RMG manufacturers need to start working together with all their supply chain stakeholders to not just meet, but overcome the challenges standing in the way of Bangladesh’s RMG industry success.Otherwise, the shortage will be more severe in the next ten years, as 12 10 8 6 4 2 0 Exports

yesterday's success cannot be made to face tomorrow's more dynamic and challenging situation, without offering any pragmatic solutions. The waves of change have started to roll in and the sector should address the shortfalls in talent professionally and efficiently. The RMG sector will require around eight lakh skilled professionals in mid-level positions by 2021 to lead the organizations. Currently, the sector suffers a shortfall of nearly two lakh professionals. Unfortunately, experienced and qualified employees from our neighboring countries are filling the current shortage. They are around 15 percent of the mid- and senior-level professionals in the entire industry. The RMG sector should arrange training for its workforce to survive in the competitive world markets as market forces constantly demand efficiency. We need to spend more than 10 percent of profits on training and development. The entrepreneurs' have also the eagerness to spend money to train and develop local talents. Young talents seem interested to pursue a professional career in RMG as they will have the opportunities to take the myriad pressures and challenges of the present world. The private universities & local institutes and training centers in Bangladesh are grooming equipped now to keep pace with the everincreasing demand for quality RMG
talents with appropriate skills, knowledge and abilities. Technical institutions are offering time demanded curricula, social recognition of garment jobs, considerable compensation packages and favorable working conditions are making the scope of RMG talent development. Most employers are imparting to structured or continuously competent training programs to employees due to business exigencies and also because they fear losing their trained employees. The government and sector al associations should forge public-private partnerships to strengthen Marketing-Merchandising, technical and logistics education. The government will provide infrastructure facilities and the associations will design the course curricula, based on modern trend of demands. Both BGMEA and BKMEA have taken initiatives to produce skilled talents for the sector by imparting training at as many as 31 centers. The culture of continuous learning and development would be the immediate solution to meeting the short supply of talent at mid-level positions because changing the national education system or the practical orientation curricula is a long and winding process. Most of the organizations of this sector attracting quality graduates and professionals with good compensation packages, healthy work environments and a challenge of career path with a long vision & mission. Moreover, some organizations in the apparel sector, have introduced their management trainee schemes. It is also mandatory for managers at all levels to attend the management development programs run throughout the year. The owner and top management have to demonstrate full commitment and involvement along with treating the employees with dignity and respect to make the development program a success of talent hunting.

MAKEOVER As like: • Many of us think in case of skin fairness there’s nothing so pure as fair polish. It’s a wrong way of thinking. It contains harmful Hydrogen per oxide which causes skin cancer. • Skin bleach contains different chemicals which is unhygienic for our skin. It burns the upper layer of skin and releases spots on the face. • Now a days, chemical pill is even familiar and popular amongst the skin conscious peoples. But because of these pills skin infection can occur and different more problems arise. • Many of the people use scrubbing 3 or 4 times once in a week. That rate is way higher than a
moderate rate. Over usage can damage the skin tissues and causes death of the live cells. When the chemicals and preservative are absorbed by skin then when reaction and allergies start. In the context of Bangladesh, Agent
Banking has paramount importance because Socio Economic development of a country depends on the equal distribution of wealth, information and various services among the people in various communities and geographical area. Bangladesh is a developing country having about 160 million people of which about 80% lives in village and about 40% of people live under poverty level of which most of the poor people live in village. There is a disparity among the number of bank branches and outstanding deposits and advances in the banking system classified by rural and urban area. As per economic census 2013 it is found that 72% of total economic unit and 65.4% economic establishments are in rural areas, whereas most bank branches are in urban areas. There are about 25% of adult people is still financially excluded. Besides a significant number of people live abroad and their families live in the villages. People are performing more financial transactions in rural and semi-urban areas. Now most villagers are getting education. There are low literate people but illiteracy rate is decreasing. The villagers need all kinds of basic banking. At present Banks are offering banking services through Branches in urban or semi-urban areas. The village people and rural growth centers are deprived of banking services. There are government banks in some areas, but they could not provide modern banking facilities as a result most people are out of banking reach even though Mobile Banking services included some people mostly for money transfers. As reported by Bangladesh Bank total registered clients through mobile up to March was 1.50 crore million, daily average transactions Tk.263.18 crore, daily average cash in Tk.111.02 Crore , no of agents 2.93 lac having growth 20.83% . We want to serve those economic units by establishing agent banking booths in the rural areas.

Agent Banking
provides banking and financial services to the underserved population through engaged agents such as educated individuals, chain grocery stores, retail outlets, post offices, local govt institution, Pharmacies or NGOs etc under a valid agency agreement, rather than a teller/ cashier. This model allows banks to expand services into areas where they do not have sufficient incentive or capacity to establish a formal branch, which is particularly true in rural and poor areas where as a result a high percentage of people are unbanked. Agent is the owner of an outlet who conducts banking transactions on behalf of a bank. Globally these retailers are increasingly utilized as important distribution channels for financial inclusion. Bangladesh Bank has also decided to promote this complimentary channel to reach to the poor segment of the society as well as existing bank customers especially to geographically dispersed locations with a range of financial services. The agent's activities would be within normal course of banking business of the Bank but conducted at places other than bank premises/ ATM booths and the place must be outside Metropolitan area and City Corporation. Agent must provide services in the designated business premises. Each Agent and their outlets will have a specific business territory as defined by the Bank. One agent may have multiple outlets. At a single point , one outlet is prohibited to provide service of other bank as agent. Agent will execute agreement with the Bank for each outlet. Agent himself or his employed personnel will operate the outlet as authorized by the Bank. Bank will provide ID card, business card, official dress or dress code, user ID and other related items to the agents and the persons authorized to operate the agent outlets.

BUSINESS The agents will be equipped with IT devices like point of sale (POS) with biometric features capturing and reading facilities, card reader, mobile phone, barcode scanner to scan bills for bill payment transactions, Personal Identification Number (PIN) pads and may have Personal Computers (PCs) that are to be connected with Bank server using a personal dialup or other data connections. Clients will use magnetic stripe/chip based bank card/ mobile phone/finger impression/face or retina impression/electronics signature to access their bank account. Bank will also consider the newly invented IT/electronic devices for its Agents to deliver the customers modern technology based services and to keep pace for technological development. Identification of customers shall be done through a PIN/ biometrics (finger impression/face or retina recognition)/electronics signature/mobile call/SMS/ and other tested measures. In the customer end the transaction should be operating through ICT devices that are continuously and uninterruptedly integrated to the Core Banking Solutions (CBS) of Bank. The transactions should be executed on real time basis. No transactions can be performed in case of communication failure. At the end point the customer will get instant confirmation of their transaction through visual basis (screen based like SMS) and paper based (debit or credit slip) also. The Agents are allowed to provide various services on behalf of bank such as account opening services, deposit, withdraw, Transfer of Fund, Inward Foreign Remittance Disbursement, Utility Bill Payment, Social safety net cash payment, Balance Inquiry, Account Statement (mini), Insurance Premium colection, Passport fee collection, SME loan Processing, Agricultural Loan Processing, Retail loan processing , Tk.10 account holders loan processing, Support green banking initiatives like solar home system, bio gas , Training and development of the potential SME entrepreneurs, Debit /Credit/prepaid card paper processing. The agents are not allowed to give final approval of opening of bank accounts and issuance of bank cards/cheques, deal with loan/ financial appraisal, encash of cheques and deal in Foreign currency and conducting money changing activities. Financial Services prevail mostly in city areas over the country. People in rural areas can take non-institutional steps to meet these demands. Taking this opportunity a group of people are cheating the general people repeatedly throughout the country. Like Coopera Model: Arno 62 PAGES
tive Society, Multi-Level marketing company and many other forms of organizations are used for this purpose. To mitigate such malpractice of cheating unbanked people, Agent Banking model is the right demand of this time. Agent banking directly and indirectly will create huge employment opportunities which will help to reduce unemployment problem and increase the purchasing power. Under the Agent banking , opportunity to be created for the bank to provide loans and advances to the Agriculture sector, loan to Tk.10 account holders and SME sectors which will alleviate the poverty. Agent banking is technology based banking which reduce the uses
of resources. Besides under agent banking, the bank will be able to provide loan for solar system, biogas plant, tree plantation etc (green products) to the rural poor people. The Agent banking will directly contribute the GDP by adding value through financial services to the unbanked people.

Bangladesh will face some brand new emerging challenges, these as: • The business is expanding fast and demands matching development in infrastructure as really, an area in which Bangladeshis lacking—this demands to feel uncovered. • Though Bangladesh has a position in outsourcing company, it will face tougher challenges in the near future, from Southeast Asian nations like India, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam and Thailand, which tend to be improving their positioning as alternative offshore locations. Because those nations enter the business before Bangladesh. • Bangladesh’s competitiveness is being challenged by nations like Indonesia, which provide cheaper work in IT and company process skill which tend to be of concern, and need to be resolved. • Online penetration wants to be uncovered along with the ICT product and services. • Governmental crises in markets like the US and British might result in outsourcing restrictions being put in place. Additionally really want to think about the nearby governmental issues. .

BUSINESS INTRODUCTION:
formation of linkages with small suppliers.
Entrepreneurship is one of the indispensable ways to economic self-sufficiency around the world. In the developing country like Bangladesh where well-paid employment is scarce, entrepreneurship may be the only way that most individuals can rise above the poverty. Society in Bangladesh tends to grant small business limited access to material resources, land capital, and education. Now the time has come when we should emphasize on creating self employment opportunities and on expansion of employment-generating small business enterprises. In recent times, small and medium Enterprises (SMEs) have come into the forefront of development agenda due to the recognition of their contribution in fostering growth, sustaining global economic recovery, generating employment and reducing poverty (OECD, 2004). SEAF (2004) report identifies a number of channels through which SMEs can have positive impact on poverty reduction. Growth of SMEs can reduce poverty through acceleration of economic growth, removal of biases against labour-intensive production, creation of employment opportunities for the low-skilled workers and
OBJECTIVES This write-up descriptively shows the present condition of small entrepreneurs in Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) of Bangladesh in terms of their diversity, challenges and the way forward. In addition, also makes an attempt to identify the key features of SME in Entrepreneurship, their need and support requirements, placing a special emphasis on their access to formal credit. SME IN BANGLADESH SMEs are in general labor-intensive industries with relatively low capital strength. As such Bangladesh being a labour abundant and capital scarce, SMEs have a natural comparative advantage. In recognition of the strategic importance of the development of SMEs in promoting economic growth, employment generation and poverty alleviation the SME sector has been declared as a priority sector in the Government's Industrial Policy 2005 and various measures have been initiated to help maximize the SMEs growth potential.
Entrepreneurship is one of the indispensable ways to economic self-sufficiency around the world
Despite high dependence on agriculture, other sectors are growing significantly in Bangladesh. Over the years, share of agriculture in GDP is declining with services being the drivers of growth. Manufacturing sector in Bangladesh has been contributing at a consistent rate over the last decade to around 15 percent. SMEs in manufacturing and services combined have 19 percent share of GDP. A nationwide survey claims that Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) value addition accounts for 20 to 25 percent of Bangladesh’s GDP (Daniel, 2003). 3DEFINITION OF SME There is a definitional ambiguity in cases of SMEs in Bangladesh. A major policy weakness in case of SMEs is that there is no unique definition of SMEs that is followed both at policy and operation level. Different organizations define it according to their objectives and conveniences. Model: Khushi
72 PAGES
However, there is no common definitional form of SME that has been
applied worldwide; it varies from one country to another and even within the same country. Generally capital investment and number of workers employed are the two major criteria of definitions of SME. SME is defined in the Industrial Policy 2005 separately for manufacturing and non-manufacturing units in terms of their employment and size of asset. Small industries under manufacturing sector are defined as those which have fixed assets below Tk.1.50 crore (15 million). Under non manufacturing sector small industries were defined as those which employ less than 25 workers. Medium industries under manufacturing sector were defined as those which have fixed assets worth between Tk. 1.50 crore (Tk. 15 million) and Tk. 10 crore (Tk.100 million). Medium industry in the non-manufacturing sector is meant to include those industries employing 25 to 100 workers. Bangladesh Bank defines small enterprises having no more than 60 workers with total assets between Tk. 50,000 and 1 crore (for manufacturing) and no more than 20 workers with total assets between Tk. 50,000 and Tk.50 lacs (for trading) and no more than 30 workers with total assets between Tk. 50,000 and Tk.30 lacs (for services)1. However, Commercial banks either follow the definition of industrial policy, Bangladesh Bank definition or follow a definition that best suits their vision. 1. Meeting the Challenges in SME Development in Bangladesh:Special Reference to Government’s Budgetary Measures, by Dr. Khondaker Golam Moazzem STRUCTURE AND GROWTH OF SME Now the SMEs are not only concentrated to low-tech, traditional, and agro-based economic activities; these are spread over other non-traditional manufacturing and service sector as well. Growth of SMEs has occurred simultaneously with large-scale enterprises in most of the major industries, such as wood products, jute, cotton and apparels, food and beverages, and fabricated metals. In a number of industries, import substitution has taken place. In general, SMEs are currently undergoing structural transformation because of various linkages at domestic and international levels. This structural transformation contributes to making changes in product composition, degree of capitalization, and market perpetration through the adjustment of changes in technology, market demand and market access
(Ahmed, 2001). However, growth of SMEs has been largely retarded by a number of constraints, of which financial constraint is mentioned at first. Besides, there are constraints in the cases of legal, administrative, regulatory, technological, infrastructural, and human resources. Government’s pro-poor policies should focus sufficiently on these constraints and various budgetary measures should emphasize on the improvement of these constraints. SMALL & MEDIUM ENTERPRISE (SME) BANKING DIVISION Overview: SME Banking Division is a business division of Bank that deals with Small and Medium sized Entrepreneurs involved in different types of business. SME banking division primarily provides loans to small and medium sized trading, manufacturing, service, agriculture, non-farm activities and agro-based industries located across the country. SME Banking Division has successfully made a mark in creating a platform for Small and Medium Entrepreneurs in “Access to Finance”, the key to the prime obstacle towards growth of SMEs. Bank upholds the motto to finance the “missing middle” the underserved market segment of SMEs. Years of market knowledge & understanding, committed resources, country wide coverage and well aligned strategies have made the bank an expert in SME Financing and the bank has successfully developed an examined & successful model in SME financing in Bangladesh. SME has also incorporated double bottom line approach in its operation first one of which is making profit by mobilizing fund from urban to rural areas and second one is performing social responsibility by creating an entrepreneurial class. Along with Small & Medium Enterprise financing, SME Banking Division is also actively working in creating awareness and imparting knowledge to SMEs about financial record keeping, dealing with modern banks and industry best practices in SME operation. In an attempt to ensure customer awareness and to strengthen the relationship with customers, SME Banking Division arranged informative campaigns and road shows for SMEs located across the country. WOMEN IN SME In Micro Credit Programs, it has already been established that credit
provided to women in Bangladesh has been shown to have better impacts than credit provided to men. BRAC Bank has a Women Entrepreneur Cell under its SME Banking Division to to offer access to formal finance along with training and technical assistance to the women entrepreneurs across the country. Before launching this Unit, BRAC Bank conducted an internal survey limited in Dhaka and Chittagong firstly, to have an idea about the potential market of women entrepreneurs for BRAC bank, secondly, to know the profile of the Women Entrepreneurs and finally to identify the specialized needs of Women Entrepreneurs so that BRAC Bank can come up with new innovative and dynamic financial packages for them. ACCESS TO FINANCE Access to finance is one of the main barriers faced by Entrepreneur. Entrepreneurs cannot arrange amount of capital for large enterprises. Thus Small and Medium Enterprises is the main sector where they can show their skills and achieve economic self-sufficiency. Few years ago Small and Medium Enterprises in our country did not have any access to finance at all. Now the situation has changed. Still starting capital is one of the main problems faced by entrepreneur. For small entrepreneur, transactions such as gifts and loans from relatives, friends, and neighbors, may overcome barriers to the formal sector. If this is so, formal programs designed to increase access of small Entrepreneurs to formal financial services may actually prompt reductions in the informal sector. Accessing credit, particularly for starting an enterprise, is one of the major constraints faced by small entrepreneurs. When entrepreneurs do have access to credit it is often in small amounts, whether this suits their needs or
not. Differential access to credit may of course be a reflection of differences in the choice of sector, educational level or the amount of loan requested. In addition to this, entrepreneurs in developing countries like ours continue to suffer from poor overall assets, poor enforcement of financial rights and the existence of unequal inheritances rights and consequently poor access to community and social resources. Conventional thinking, cultural and social values, and lack of collateral-all aggravate the difficulties faced by SME. SME, in particular the less educated ones, also find it more difficult to get financing from banks because they lack information on how to go about securing a loan. Moreover, bank managers are often more reluctant to lend to SME. Sometimes, credit may be available for SME through several schemes but there are bottlenecks and gaps, and the multiplicity of schemes is often not adequately listed nor is there networking among agencies. “Seed Working Paper No. 14”, by Nilufer Ahmed Karim made for ILO

to different approaches in the implementation of policies to promote SME’s entrepreneurship. When each stakeholder focuses narrowly on one approach, without coordinating its efforts with those of other actors, gaps can emerge, resulting in policies that do not effectively reach all entrepreneur with appropriate services. But without strong linkages to the government actors and decision makers who set the economic policy agenda, such exclusively “poverty alleviation” based approaches may serve to further isolate poor and marginalized people, instead of helping them to integrate into the larger economic system. Three key challenges emerge with respect to improving support for SME’s self-employment on the policy level: •how to effectively identify and reach self-employed , •how to better integrate into relevant policy areas, and how to better integrate and coordinate the efforts of different stakeholders. RECOMMENDATION FOR POLICY MAKERS AND FOR INSTITUTIONAL LEVEL At the institutional level supply side measures should address constraints
•Weak and poorly enforced credit rights in the country •Lack of effective policies and infrastructure to expedite their economic activities From the Supply-side perspective: •Financial Institutions’ reluctance to finance for start-ups •Insufficient assets to cover the debt – burden ratio •Low capitalization •Vulnerability to market fluctuations •High mortality rates •Lack of accounting records and inadequate financial statements •Lack of business plans •Difficulties in identifying entrepreneurs involved in informal business sectors RECOMMENDATION To promote SME in Bangladesh, there should be special arrangements •To develop market strategies suitable for them •To arrange training programs •And to equip them in production techniques, time management, financial management, local and export marketing, packaging, pricing, communication skills etc. Because these rationales reflect different policy priorities, they can lead

relating to track-record requirements, size requirement, equity requirement, etc., and include •Survey to determine the needs, demands and debt capacity of SME •Legal reforms to abolish gender differences in commercial and civil law CONCLUSION The government plays an important role in fostering conditions for entrepreneurial success. Government investment in SME's development is the most effective means of improving entrepreneurship. The government encourages GO-NGO collaboration to create an environment in which entrepreneurship can develop. However, the multidimensional problems and challenges that entrepreneur of Bangladesh face may not be eased by only government support, but also need necessary improvement in the administration, infrastructure etc. Entrepreneurs need necessary support in terms of administrative regulations (such as registration with supporting institutions), efficient management of different public institutions. Thus, a holistic approach is much needed for the potential and newly emerging Entrepreneurship of Bangladesh, which may ensure the competitiveness of the whole value chain.

PHOTOGRAPHY Every photographer aspires to
shoot professional-looking images, and in the first of our continuing Shoot Like A Pro sequence on Digital Camera World we showing the recipe that makes up all good outdoor portrait photography, offering expert photography tips on everything you need to know about this subject, from composition and kit to camera tips, flash techniques and more. No matter where you find yourself, there will always be portrait opportunities. Every location has its own particular feature that can give an image something unique. The location doesn’t have to dictate the type of shot you take but certain places will enhance your vision. Getting your subjects to interact with the surroundings not only makes for a more interesting shot, but adds a bit of fun for everyone involved. It helps if you can choose a location where you can move around the subject to get different angles. If you can only shoot from one angle then this will limit your creativity. Just remember not to underestimate how much the background and space around the subject influences how the portrait is framed. Here give you some tips for outdoor portrait. I think it must help for your photography. So let's start your photography.... 1) Pick one focus points for portraits. When you pick the auto focus option that allows the camera to select focus points, you are doing your portraits a dreadful damage. This feature of a camera is usually designed to pick whatever is closest to the lens and focus there. In some cases, like with my 1DS Mark III, the camera will choose a cluster of focus points and make a “best guess” based on averaging the distance between all of the chosen points. Using one focus point gives you, the photographer, eventual control.
with a wide aperture value focused on the eyes, the lens’s bokeh will aid in softening the skin as well. There are quite a few reasons to invest in a fast lens capable of wide aperture values; the most common is for shallow depth of field. Now that you can shoot at ƒ2.8 or ƒ4 you should use it. Most fantastic natural light portraits are from wide aperture values and it is all because of the wonderful smooth background blur we call “bokeh”. 3) Shoot a portrait at 70mm or higher. The last thing you want to hear from a client is “Why does my head look swelled?” Any focal length below 70mm can distort your subject, however it doesn’t become very noticeable until you are below 50 MM. The compression effect of a telephoto lens will also increase the blur of bokeh. Most of my portraits are done between
120mm and 200mm. 4) Always shoot in RAW. A thousand times these words have bellowed from my mouth, and it will surely come out a million more. Raw is an unmodified compilation of your sensors data during the time of exposure. It is your digital negative. When you shoot in JPG format, everything but what the image processor needs to make a shell representation of the image you intended to capture is stripped away. For every edit you make to a
2) Always focus on the eyes.
The eyes are the windows to the soul, and should be the focal point of any good portrait. Not only are the eyes the most important part of a good portrait, but they are the sharpest element on the face and should be left that way. When you are shooting

5) Always bring a gray card or a piece of a gray card for white balance. To avoid confusion, I am going to explain this backwards. When opening Adobe Camera Raw or any other RAW image editing application there is always a way to select a custom white balance. Usually it is an eyedropper of some kind that you can use to click on what you think is neutral gray in your image. Imagine a world where your photo shoot involved 4 locations and a total of 800 images, and all day the camera was set to Auto White Balance. That is 800 different white balance values, a post production nightmare. If, at each location, you have your subject hold the gray card on the first shot, you will save hours of work. When you open location one in your favorite post production application, all you have to do is click the eye dropper on the gray card, select all and synchronize the rest. Precious hours have been saved. 6) Shoot in the shade Direct sunlight is harsh, makes your subject squint, and creates hard directional shadows and unpredictable white balance conditions. When shooting in the shade, there are no more harsh shadows, only smooth milky shadows created by your subject’s natural features. With proper exposure and white balance, you can make these shots look amazing. 7) Shooting carefully on an overcast day. Natures soft box is a giant blanket of clouds. A good heavy blanket of cloud cover can help you enrich your colors, and make some very smooth and pleasing shadows. 8) Use an existing reflector. For example, my guess is that about 75% of the delivery trucks on the planet are white. These big white delivery trucks can make amazing fill light reflectors as long as they weren’t painted with an off white. Picture framing outlets and craft stores always have medium to large sized pieces of foam core lying around that have been left for scrap. They are usually more than happy to part with these scraps, and if not, chances are there are pieces by the dumpster.

9) Learn the sunny ƒ16 rule. Why? So you have a baseline for proper exposure in your mind to work with if no other tools are present. The sunny ƒ16 rule states that on a sunny day, with your aperture value set to ƒ16, your shutter speed will be the inverse of the current ISO speed. For example, if your camera is set to ISO 100, and your aperture value is ƒ16, your shutter speed will be 1/100th of a second. On a cloudy day you simply use ƒ8 instead. If you own either an incident light meter, or gray card use either for the most accurate exposure instead. 10) Bring a sheet and a few spring clamps from home. Leave the expensive 200 thread count sheets on the bed. You already got them? Well go put them back. You know that cheap old sheet you stuck in the corner of a closet to use as a drop cloth the next time you paint? Go get it. (Another option is to buy the cheapest, lowest thread count, white top sheet you can find.) A queen size sheet is an amazing, cheap, diffuser. Sort of a sever foot soft box for the sun. Wrap an edge of the sheet around a branch or clothes line and clamp for a side light. Clamp all for corners to anything you can above your subject for an overhead light. 11) Keep the power-lines and signs out! We have already discussed keeping your camera focused on the eyes; keep your mind focused on the image as a whole. Power lines, signs, long single blades of grass, single pieces of garbage, sometimes even trees can be serious distractions from the overall focus of the image… The person you are photographing. Last, and most important, have a great time shooting, enjoy what you’re doing and it will show in your work, and the expression of your subject.

JPG, you lose more data. With RAW, you can make a vast range of edits before creating the JPG. How can this make you portrait better? Think about the last time your white balance was set incorrectly, and you tried for hours to remove the color cast only to destroy the image with every attempt. RAW would have saved you by allowing you to fix the color before opening the image for retouching.

LIGHTING UP Pages: A successful footballer, effectual businessman, and even a reputed business leader. In every form of your life you have been successfully the trendsetter in every sector. How did that happen? What was on your mind? Salam Murshedi: No one in the world can’t be successful by one scheme. Every one bear his own dreams. Some get fulfilled, some fail. My father was an ordinary school teacher. He used to teach in PTI. I was the youngest amongst our family. Our family ought to be a sport’s fanatic one. In fact my father was a good athlete. My big brother was named “Mr. Bangladesh”. We both gained trophies in the national level for sports. And for me? Football was like my addiction! Entering the world of business was just a miracle there. In 1974, I got the chance to play in the Muslim club. And when it was 1978, I got a job at Khulna’s “Platinum Jute Mill.” From that day I started to think about my own business. I dreamt to be the owner of one like “Platinum Jute Mills.” Before that in 1977, I came to Dhaka as Khulna’s correspondent to play football. Coming here I got the chance to play for Azad Sporting Club. Azad Sporting Club used to rule the Football Federation at that time. In the same year for a great performance the chance came there for me to be in the elite league of the National Youth Team. And at the same time International Youth Football Tournament of 220 nations took place and I got the chance to play there. It was the first big tournament of my life. And riding the cycle I played for BGMC that year. The year after that I scored the historical hat trick against Brother’s Union and become the “Salam Murshedi” nationwide as a new football star. At the 80’s I got the chance to play for “Mohammedan Sporting Club” and at time of the 82’s I scored 27 in the national league goals which is still an unbreakable record of the Bangladeshi football history. It feels sad not finding any striker after our batch. One after one success eventually created the path for me to be the “Salam Murshedi” of today. Pages: From a footballer to a business leader. How much do you enjoy? Salam Murshedi: I feel good. Actually I got the opportunity of being a business leader is completely a gift from my football career. If I wouldn’t have played for the national team I may not have seen the Dhaka City. Everything of me is being blessed by football. In my company more than 20 thousand are working currently. The biggest
textile mill of the country is under my company. I became the president of the BGMEA and now I am the president of Exporter’s Association. But still when I walk into the road people know me by the name footballer Salam Murshedi. And it’s really pleasing.. Pages: The biggest show on the earth football “World Cup” has come again. The show has begun. Though world football has gone so forward and we are heading backwards. As a footballer how will you judge it? Salam Murshedi: Yes. World cup is the biggest stage for the footballing nations. United Nations has 198 members and FIFA has 211. Even we are the member of FIFA. In circumstances of the national football we can’t say we have drawn back that much but in case of the international level we didn’t move forward also. Football is no longer into a game only. It is a business worldwide. The past year football has generated 2233 billion Marcin Dollars. Bangladesh participation in it is almost not there. Various issues are there. School football is no longer running. Football is not played with the enthusiasm in the rural levels. I was being produced from school football. Later on, I played for BJMC. In our time, 11 institution had football teams at the national levels. Every institutes and educational institutes the Cota system. Now this are all stopped. Cota’s are now under the possession of Chatraleague and Chatradal. Discontinuation of school, college and district level football competition made today’s grief. Even though I am hopeful. Just a few days back I arranged a football match at Gopalganj. The stadium was full of football fans. Some other programs are there in our hands. Now if the players, Bafufe and government can work together there will be a feedback
above all the main thing that is needed is a good plan. I think football is becoming regular in all stages. Inter-college and Inter-Universities competition should must be started in a real quick time. I think if we go with a good plan; in the next 10 years we will reach the Asian standard of football. Other teams have big budgets. We don’t need that big budget. Government need not to pay the Bafufe. FIFA provides it. This year we have requested for a budget in sake of the football development. If we can unite the youth society with a good routine and arrange the college and district section football competition beside school competition we will reach the Asian standard in just 10 years. We have beaten Iran. Even Maldives has been beaten by a huge number of 10 goals whom we lose in 1 goal now a days. We had stars during our time, there is no star at this time. We need to find the star footballer. We need to hunt the talent down. Pages: How much sincere is the government for the sake of football development? Salam Murhshedi: Government is sincere. Present prime minister is a sports crazy person. If I arrange a million taka super cup then the prime minister herself steps into the field to watch and inspire the footballers. Actually our football related personalities are not organized with a routine plan. I don’t want to give any objection
Pages: Letting the world class aside but how long will it take to enhance our national football to theAsian Standard? Salam Murshedi: We started the school football again. In the district roster duty we will start anew. But it will take a minimum time. But,

LIGHTING UP about the government’s effort. Isn’t our government spending money on cricket? Government will spend even on football if the plan is proper and routine with a potential. Pages: As you said, football is a worldwide big business. Being a footballer you are a business leader as well. What is the scope to do a healthy business and income from that by football? Salam Murshedi: There are two kind of business related with football. A player earns foreign currencies by playing abroad. In this case, Brazil is leading. Brazil player’s income the most around the whole world. Right after that it is Argentina. And then it is the African players. They income a huge amount of money from the European Market. If we want to go to that level along with the government the corporate houses who are patronizing should work together. Today our cricket is in such a stage because of the patronization. Cricket is really expensive. It needs Bat, Ball, Pad, Gloves, Helmet and many more. But in a football match you can make the 22 players play with just one ball. If the corporate bodies along with the government who are giving support to football should work together. A good routine is needed. There should be a Calendar. A game should be on the running and the other will be on the development side. And this will be the national development process. Success should be brought on to the international levels. If the success is not there then the nation will not get enthusiastic. International tournaments needs to be there. We can’t even remember when did the last international tournament was held. We brought Argentina to play against Bangladesh and to watch the match it there happened chaos even on the roads. If the people of Bangladesh had no love for football, what is the craze all about?

teams has come to the semi-finals. Seems like it has been the fixed fate by the mercy of god. Two European teams and two Latin American. I have some complains about the referring. I think between the wars of this two they will play a bit defensive. And in the finals, the fight between the European team and the Latin American one will be a healthy fight. Pages: Your contemporary business leaders are getting old really soon. They are not able maintain there figure. But how do you manage to keep yourself so healthy still even? Salam Murshedi: why will you call a young man like me an old guy? Ha Ha Ha ? But whenever I realize when I did left football reminds me about my age. That’s why I never say to anyone when I left football. It is my business career which is more than 30 years! Actually I was sporting from the very beginning. I still do a bit physical exercise. When I was at school my

father bought me a cycle. When my son was born he got a car! But I saw cycle. I always think I am riding on a by-cycle. And only for that I make a very few mistakes. I always think people should not forget his past.. Pages: you are a busy guy. But still how do you maintain your outlook, your dress up and figure maintained so firm? Salam Murshedi: Because I am a sportsman I exercise. And for that reason only I think I am sstill healthy. And my eating habit is really simple. Every morning I eat bread with vegetable. And good dress up is only for the sake of business. If I go to a meeting or a conference I have to wear a good dress. Our boys and girls know what is brand and fashion all about. We do fashion but for our need.

Salam Murshedi: This world cup is still one of the competitive. From team to team the difference did not varied too much. Some day’s back the strong teams even did not give any gen to the smaller and the weaker teams. But in this world cup whichever top favorite you are, you must have to earn it by the last drop of sweat you have. Every team improved. Especially the teams which we thought weaker did a good improvement. Teams like Spain, Italy, and Portugal got out of the tournament on the group stage. We kept this teams as the favorites for this world cup. This time the amount of goal scoring has increased a lot. Four

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY Rasedul Islam Lalin
This
is an occasion to express gratitude towards your dad for all his love and support. The Father's Day in Bangladesh is on 3rd Sunday of June on every year. Father's Day is a celebration honoring fathers and celebrating fatherhood, paternal bonds, and the influence of fathers in society. Fathers are said to be every person's 'first hero'. All sons and daughters to show their love and gratitude to their father, and also for fathers to think back about what being a father means to them. But in our life time when we become success in our life and achieved our desired goals we forget and neglect our father sometimes. Even though we make them separate from our family and send them in the old age home. But they need our company in their old age as like they have given their company in our childhood. So everybody needs to consider fathers sacrifice for our better life and give them proper respect in their old age.

SHAB-E-BARAT 2014 Rasedul Islam Lalin
The 15th night of Shabaan is a very blessed night. According to the Hadith Shareef, the name of this Mubarak night is “Nisf Sha’baan” which means 15th night of Shabaan. The reason for this special night to attain its name of Laylat al-Bara’ah, meaning the Night of Salvation, Seeking Freedom from Azaab and Calamity, is that in this night the Barakaat and acceptance of repentance may be accomplished. It is on this day that Allah is said to write the destinies of each one in the coming year, so Bengali Muslims pray in earnest on this day for his blessings and forgiveness. Families also take this time to remember their departed and visit their graveyards. Any festival in Bangladesh is really not considered complete without the presence of food or the house all decked up. To bring in the feel of Shab-e-Barat, houses are cleaned during the day and few even decorate theirs with candles and

sparkling lights. The women in the house throughout the day busy themselves with preparing sweet dishes like halwas, barfis, shemai (vermicelli), rooti and what not. Once, everything is cooked, the food is then shared with friends and relatives. You may get to see a good number of young people during the evening, carrying the dishes in well-decorated containers to the houses of their neighbors and other acquaintances.
