CA Creations is my dream business
born from a hobby started after I turned fifty years of age. My name is Carole Wilkinson and I have been attending The Jewellery Maker School in Lancaster for just over a year. I make handcrafted pieces of jewellery from sterling silver, copper, silver wire and beads or anything else I can construct into a decorative wearable item. Some pieces are very artistic and individual, others more run of the mill, but all are unique and have a little bit of my creativity attached. My pieces include a bridal range (bouquet charms, hair ornaments and matching bridal jewellery), rings, earrings and bangles. Prices start from a very reasonable ÂŁ4. You can find me in my workshop located

“A good reputation precedes you, and you’re only as good as your last job”, is what my father Maurice used to tell me when I was learning to be a carpet fitter in the family business Atkinson Carpets of Ulverston. Now 25 years later I am passing on the same advice and skills to my son James who is in his third year as an apprentice achieving his NVQ2/QCF in Flooring this year. I became a fitter member with the National Institute of Carpet & Floorlayers in the early nineties, achieving my diploma to Master Fitter in 2000 and still the only Master Fitter in South Cumbria. Floorlaying has changed significantly since I started as a mere carpet fitter, we are now know as “Floorlayers” and there’s a huge choice of floorcoverings to choose from all with specific installation criteria. Adhesives, screeds, moisture testing and site conditions all need to be considered when choosing and installing a new floor. Carpets with a 10 year bleach cleanable stain warranty to fine 100% wool designs , Luxury vinyl tiles, Hardwoods, Laminates, and Safety Vinyl are just a few types of flooring we regularly supply with the latest installation techniques, we even supply artificial grass which is a really versatile product not just for lawned areas but decking, patios and yards etc, guaranteed to brighten up any area. Call Mike at “The flooring store that comes to your door” for expert advice and a free no obligation quote.

LEVEN VALLEY SUPPORT GROUP FOR ST MARY’S HOSPICE
Leven Valley Support Group for St Marys Hospice held their annual summer fair and car boot sale in Haver thwaite on 15th June and with the help of many friends and volunteers surpassed all expectations by raising the magnificent amount of £4900!!!!!! The weather just about held out and was very kind to everyone producing a warm sunnyish day. Ulverston Town Mayor Helen Irving opened the fair and then Furness Clog Dancers gave a magnificent performance while the magician enthralled the children with his tricks and
the Storyteller took them on a journey to another world with his stories. Fifi the Flea flew in from Paris with Uncle Tim and Daisy and the bargains to be had were many, ranging from books, cakes, plants and of course all the car boot items! There were many local craft and produce stalls with wonderful gifts and goods. Heartfelt thanks to all our friends and volunteers for helping us make the day such a success once again and a big thank you to everyone for their continued support. Dorothy Crabtree Chairman

‘It is difficult to see why lace is so expensive; it is mostly holes’ Mary Wilson Lile Here on the Furness peninsula the prospect of summer really can keep us in suspense. Will it arrive or will it not? Will it last for more than five minutes? Was that it last Sunday? Clearly a Hitchcock drama moment and so it’s fitting to inject some suspense into your daily outfit to match.
Allow Hitchcock to direct your wardrobe choices this summer and you will enjoy a chilling result. Channel your inner Hitchcock heroine with clean lines, 50’s inspired tailoring, and controlled pops of colour. Add a cat eye and some ladylike lace and you really can be a woman of mystery.

Lakes Legal Limited
What is the difference between a Will and a Lasting Power of Attorney?
Most people have heard the terms ‘Will’ and ‘Lasting Power of Attorney’ but it is less common for people to Hannah Elizabeth Bell LLB Director understand the Photo: Lorraine Oates Photography difference between these two essential and distinct legal documents.
A Will is a legal document created during your lifetime that does not take effect until you have died. Your Will sets out what you would like to happen to your assets and personal belongings once you have died and appoints your chosen Executors to administer your estate.
Lasting Powers of Attorney are legal documents that are created during your lifetime. There are two types of Lasting Power of Attorney. The first type deals with decisions about your property and finances and the second type deals with decisions about your health and welfare. When you create a Lasting Power of Attorney you appoint your Attorney(s) to make decisions about your property and financial affairs and/or health and welfare during your lifetime. The powers given by your Lasting Powers of Attorney automatically come to an end following your death.
To make both a Will and a Lasting Power of Attorney you must have legal capacity. This means that you must know and understand what you are doing when you create these documents. If you lose mental capacity without having these documents in place it can make dealing with your assets and making decisions about your health and welfare very difficult for your loved ones.
Lakes Legal Limited regard Wills and Lasting Powers of Attorney as essential legal documents and recommend that everyone, young and old, should have these documents in place.
You can prepare these documents yourself, It is common to find ‘Will Writing Packs’ in stationary shops and the Lasting Powers of Attorney forms can be downloaded from the Office of the Public Guardian website (https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/ make-a-lasting-power-of-attorney). However the legal rules surrounding Wills and Lasting Powers of Attorney are complex and so you may prefer to seek legal assistance to prepare your legal documents. Lakes Legal Limited specialise in the provision of wills and Lasting Powers of Attorney and are happy to answer any queries you may have. If you have any questions about your personal legal affairs please feel free to contact Hannah Bell using the below telephone number or by e-mail: Hannah@lakeslegallimited.co.uk.
Lakes Legal Limited offers a comprehensive Will and Lasting Power of Attorney service so you know exactly how much it is going to cost you from the very beginning. No hidden costs and No VAT!

Emma Walker-Hughes, Resource Marketing, Daisychain Event Organisers said;
‘Often women are put off networking, they might feel a little nervous about mixing with people they haven’t met and often wonder what they will actually get from the events. The Daisychain events are designed to overcome these 2 common misconceptions, they are relaxed and informal and offer help in the form of access to business support and many diverse courses and seminars aimed at helping you in business long after the end of the event. I believe any opportunity offered to take that business idea one step further should be grasped with both hands’. There are a limited number of display places available, if you are local to Ulverston and South Lakes and have a product or service that you would like to show to other women contact the resource marketing team on 01229 400226, to register online visit www.resourcemarketing.co.uk, follow on facebook and twitter.

With the Summer holidays fast approaching, I thought it might be useful for you to have some
‘Top tips for travelling with young children’ Pace yourself. If this is your first trip with your children, aim for a slightly slower paced break than usual. Go with the flow and don’t pack in too much. Avoiding stress is the name of the game, so build in rest days and be realistic about what you might see and do. Travel is great for broadening the mind, even if you’re a five year old. Start getting your little ones prepared for their holiday by treating it like a project. You could read a guide book to them about your destination, talk to them about what to expect and how things may be different such as the food. Perhaps even try some of the traditional dishes from your chosen holiday destination. Also encourage them to keep a holiday journal, collect photos, ticket stubs and draw pictures of what they have seen and record new words they may have learned along the way. These are great to look back on. Research your destination and prepare a “things to do and places to go if the weather isn’t great” list. (This is particularly good if travelling out of season in the February or October half terms). As your Travel Counsellor I will provide you with this ahead of your trip. Where possible, I check my customers in online so I can hand you your boarding passes and save you time at the airport and sometimes this means free allocation of seats before you leave. Most airlines make a charge for pre booking seating, but if it provides peace of mind, I would be happy to advise on this. Taking a buggy or pram even if your child is now walking can be handy as they can double up as places to rest from the heat or if up a little later than usual to rest in a restaurant for example. Most airlines carry this for an infant free of charge, but it’s possible for small children too. It goes without saying that I will research the accommodation options for suitability for you and your family, with two young children of my own I

understand what is necessary to make your holiday as enjoyable as possible for everyone. It’s not possible to carry liquids over 100ml through airport security, but once through it makes sense to get some drinks before you get on your flight, it can be warm when you arrive at your destination and whilst waiting for and travelling on your transfer, a bottle of water if often very welcomed. Once on board it’s helpful to have a treat such as a lollipop to suck on during take off and landing. Make sure you have plenty of ways to entertain your little one such as crayons, books and their favourite toy. Also small presents that are well wrapped and take a while to open make great distractions, during turbulence for example. Once you’ve arrived and you’ve checked in satisfy yourself that your room is child friendly. Check the locks on doors and windows to make sure the room is secure and all fittings are sturdy including balcony railings i.e. there are no gaps big enough for a child to get through. Don’t be afraid to ask to be moved to another room if you’re not satisfied. Requesting a ground floor room if available is often a good idea and checking the hot water temperature is another top tip to ensure it’s not too hot for little hands.

With a log burning stove and outside seating, Abbey Mill is suitable whatever the weather and muddy wellies are always welcome. The café has a full lunch menu, consisting of freshly prepared homemade soups, sandwiches, filled baguettes and Angus burgers. There is also a children’s section with chicken nuggets, sausages or a picnic lunch box. Fully licenced, a bottle of wine or our own local Ulverston Brewing Company beer are always refreshing in the summer. Why not try the Abbey Mill Ale? A light refreshing summer ale in a friendly atmosphere. Freshly ground coffee beans are prepared just how you like, from cappuccino to iced coffee and the hot chocolate comes in a whole 16 oz. glass with cream & marshmallows. Julie in the centre is the owner of Happy Houndz. Beth on the left runs the Grooming side, she is the one who gives your dog its pampering and Amy on the right is our dog behaviourist.
Julie is an experienced veterinary nurse and dog owner, whom decided to change what we all perceive kennels to be, she envisioned a home away from home, a fun friendly place that dogs like to go to. A place where they are part of the family, have out door space to play, as well as being taken on walks. Julie endeavours to meet each individual dogs needs on a daily basis. Doggy day care is available as well as being a small, exclusive “doggy holiday home No sitting around in kennels here! Beth is Happy Houndz Manageress and is the dog pamper queen, you can leave your dog at Happy Houndz for a play and then a bath and pamper session as Beth is a qualified groomer and will make your dog look, feel and smell beautiful for collection. Amy has completed a 2 year Animal Management Level 3 Diploma and her Think Dog Behaviour certificate, working with the Clever Dog Company. Amy loves helping rescue dogs, she is who you turn to for help with pulling on the lead, social skills and clicker training.

History, July 1969 a 4 wheeler Moon Raker Buggy landed on the moon. One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind... July 2014. A portable 6 wheeler Moon Raker Buggy carpet cleaning machine touches down on Furness soil. Equipped with the most powerful vacuum motors available in the U.K. It's all about 'Lift Off!'
Understanding 'Lift off!' and the physics behind it makes you want to smile... Methods still in use today, combine lengthy vacuum pipes with a motor situated far away, Physics dictates less sucking power.
However, using physics again, inside the Moon Raker combine two very powerful vacuum suction motors. Situate the Moon Raker near the carpet being cleaned. Using a short length of suction pipe. What's the result? Physics dictate, soil is lifted out from deep within those carpet fibres. Physical results? An intellects smile!
Using our Moon Raker Buggy is just one small step for us... Other steps involve: trimming edges, vacuuming, blotting oil based stains away, scrapping, using agitation machinery, 'Lift Off!' drying and a friendly Eco Extreme Clean knowing smile! Adding those steps and you get one giant leap forward for mankind in removing Furness soil from carpets with smiles.
Experience 'Lift Off!' with our Moon Raker Buggy. Smiles better.
