Cruising With Critter Well summer 2014 has taken off with a vengeance once we got shed of the winter from Hell that had us in its grips and refused to let go. It has been packed with all kinds of events all over the Province and we have been hard pressed to get to them all as our volunteer crew is stretched to the limits, but we do our best. I’m all on the mend and out all over the Province covering events and doing feature shoots and trying to stay out of trouble. Staying out of trouble can be a tall order at mes as things can jump up and bite you in the ass when you least expect it and from places that you didn’t think would be a problem. I ride and walk a fine line at mes trying to stay neutral in the poli cs between Clubs and have always managed to do so and all Clubs have been great about my giving equal respect to all concerned, although I hear the occasional grumblings about how I ran a nicer ad for these guys than you did for us or those guys pictures ran bigger than ours and so on but the truth is you can’t please everybody. I try to treat everybody fairly and equally and show no favouri sm. However, change is inevitable. Change isn’t always good and it isn’t always bad but over the years changes in a tudes, poli cs, finances and a number of other reasons real and imagined have caused change this is true with clubs, personal rela onships, and business rela onships and in life itself. Change can result in turmoil, that if unresolved, can lead to break-ups and splits that can change the landscapes of

what was and can cause friends, rela ves, allies and business partners or associates much trouble and concern as well, as they are expected to choose sides. Over the years I have seen many changes with Motorcycle Clubs and groups that were this or that for whatever reasons are now that or this. For me, I make it clear to all concerned that I will remain neutral and that I will talk to all par es. If they were my friend before the split or breakup, our rela onship will not change, whatever patch you happen to wear on your back. You have your own reasons and if they are valid to you and you are prepared to live with the consequences that is your business. I also make it clear that the same applies to their former brothers and I will not turn against them or ignore

The same applies to employees who leave one business to start their own venture or get a be"er deal or offer from a compe tor. I know there may be tension between them but they are both en tled to the same treatment by me and my crew. The same goes for businesses and adver sers. I try to treat everybody with respect and keep a level playing field but it can be difficult at mes. We have set prices and our own

policies that we run by and deal with people accordingly. We do not play favourites although we do have many long- me adver sers that we have built up a great working rela onship with over the years and work well together. But this is a growing business in a Free Enterprise System and as such, we do offer adver sing to all, even if it means that two or more compe ng businesses are appearing in the same Mag. We are offering the same deals to all, in terms of ad placement it is on a first come, first served basis. That applies to the calendar spaces as well. Once someone has spoken for the space it is theirs as long as they want it and con nue to pay for it. No one will be moved out of a spot once it is bought and paid for, even if someone were to offer more money. We are conscious of conflicts and try to do ad placements with that in mind but have been known to fuck up on occasion. We are unique in the fact that we cater to bikers and biker lifestyle and recognize that bikers are our key group and we are the magazine that many bikers read over all other motorcycle publica ons. We have more readers for the simple fact that we are out where bikers are and cover their events and are right there with them. We are bikers! Look around at your next event and count how many other magazines are represented there. So if an adver ser wants to reach bikers and adver se in something that bikers read, the choice is more than obvious. However it has been another extremely busy month with no signs of le ng up and it can be an adventure trying to keep up. The trike is really a big help, as I hoped it would be and it s ll needs some tweaking to get it exactly where I want it to be and have already ordered some parts and just need to find the me to install them. In an effort to improve the aerodynamics I have picked up a fairing and my buddy Jabber has worked his magic once again and has it all painted, so that will be a big help. I’ve been trying to fit in road trips or modify my direct routes from point A to B, C, and D and so on, so I can swing into our various adver sers and visit people that I’ve only talked to over the phone or by emails just to get a personal view of their shops, bars etc. and get a be"er sense of the who is who and what makes them unique and such a good fit for the Mag. It has been fun and there are a whole lot of great people out there. It is a slow process but I’m working on it. I dropped into a li"le bar (Yeah, yeah, I know, that’s a real stretch of the imagina on!) Tar’d and Feathered up in Beaverton run by a long- me friend the other day. I say long me rather than old because she is very young as she was a friend of my Son’s from years ago and used to hang out at our house. Tara is an amazing person and she and her equally a"rac ve partner Feather have recently started to adver se with us and yes they do carry 50 but that isn’t (en rely) why I stopped in. I was up picking up my fairing from the painter and

Cruising With Critter being in the neighbourhood thought I’d stop in and check out their recent renova ons. See I can mul task just fine! Got my parts picked up checked with a client and took pictures of the recent renova ons, drank a 50 and got to hang out for a while with a couple of pre y ladies and some of their customers all in one a ernoon! A day in the life, and it aint bad! I also dri ed on over to a great bar in Lore o to check out their Thursday night Bike Night (Yeah they carry 50 as well!) and see how they are doing. And while I missed the lovely Stephanie and her beau ful Mother Brenda, I did get to visit with Jo, who had things well in hand and visit with some of the folks who were out for the evening while partaking in some of their great food. It’s s ll a great spot with great food. Stop in some me for a visit! On the way I stopped by Main Street Powersports at their eye-catching store right at Main Street and Hwy. 9 in Schomberg. Literally, you can’t miss this place, unless you’re driving way too fast with your eyes closed and if that’s the case…keep on driving because we don’t want you hanging around the real people! It is a huge Orange and Black building with great signage and s ll more on the way so it is no cable.

This is a great Store and not because they are star ng to adver se with us but it is a great store. I had first heard about it last year from my old friend Gerry Finlayson just before his death and had stopped by then to check it out. They weren’t ready to adver se back then as they had lots of stuff on their plates and wanted to get things well in hand first and make sure that they were ready to a ract large volume business.

They did some major renova ons to an old feed mill and it looks fantas c! They combined a few businesses and platforms all in this space and have it all happening. There are motorcycle sales by Classic Cycles and total service and custom work in the main shop, with while you wait oil changes available at the Greasy Nipples service area that is situated between the main building and the private pa!o area. This has been well thought out and well planned and it is s ll a work in progress. I will be doing a feature write up on this place in the future but for now, if you find yourself up in the area stop in and check them out! A good me would be on their weekly Thursday Dyno Nights. I’ve also stopped by the fledgling Thursday Bike/Car Night up at The Lake Simcoe Grill in beau ful Baldwin being careful to not get hit by people falling from the sky. It is a new fea-

Cruising With Critter Josh had spoken to me last year about adver sing and carrying the Mag and each month when I would drop off his bundle of Mags and I knew that when he was ready he would step up. Here he is! I set up the shoot for the Sunday and due to unforeseen problems showed up without a Model so while I had to reschedule that part I was able to get shots of the shop and sit down with Josh and his other half Maggie Blue and flesh out my write-up. I love this feature as I get to really check out some of the very skilled and talented people and what they have to offer. Josh is no excep on! He is another example of someone harnessing their passion and turning it into a business and taking what could have been a set-back into an opportunity and the motorcycle community benefits. It isn’t easy but seldom does anything truly worthwhile come easy and it is all the hard work that goes into it that makes you appreciate it more and increases the sa sfac on level when the whole thing starts to come together. Tuesday I came back to do the shoot with a lady that Josh was able to arrange, as mine was s ll missing in ac on and we got it all done. She turned out to be a beau ful girl named Darlene who also goes by the name Alabama and she was a treat to work with. She was running a li"le late due to other work commitments and this was, a#er all, an impromptu shoot that she, obligingly, fit into her busy schedule. But it all worked out as it gave Josh a chance ture for the girls but it is a great spot, they are serious about to look over the trike and he not only found a couple of things it and are determined to make it work. It is worth the ride that needed looking a#er but he also looked a#er them for just for the great food. No 50 yet, but they are working on it! me right there and then. One minute we’d be talking and he’d Our feature this month is Tombstones! Cruising With Critter “Let me show you this great product that I’ve got!” He’d say as he tore off into the shop returning with a few micro fibre cloths and a plas"c bo!le. “Don’t worry, I’ll do your whole wheel!” he said with a grin. I’ve had it happen where someone will do one very conspicuous spot as a demonstra"on in hopes that you will be so impressed with the cleaning power of the product or embarrassed by the inconsistency of the appearance and have to do the rest, which would require you to buy the product. You’d be surprised at the reac"on I get when I try to sell them the spot to demonstrate their product with before and a(er contrast demo. He soon had the problems solved as well and had the whole wheel shining like a new penny. I’m finding out that that is the way he is and I’d trust him to work on my bikes any"me. All in all it was a great experience and we had a good "me doing it, and the way I see it, that is how it is supposed to be! I did get a email with a picture in apprecia"on for the work that The Iron Hawgs did on a recent ride and though that I would fit it in to recognize the accomplishments of the Club. “On behalf of IRON HAWGS MC Bran!ord we are pleased to present Par"cipa"on House Bran!ord this Dona"on of $1000.00. We would like to thank all that a#ended and the South Brant Legion for suppor"ng our

first Poker Run and Pig Roast. The great weather allowed for over 100 Motorcycles to ride in the a ernoon and the almost 200 friends and family that enjoyed the outdoor dinner and live entertainment that evening.” Good work guys! I had another very pleasant surprize when I a!ended an event at Tim and Brenda’s place in King City. I’d never heard of the event before even though this was the fourth one and despite the fact that is prac"cally in my back yard. I first heard about it from Fred Hale when I was up taking some pictures a couple of days before and he gave me a flyer and told me that I really should check it out. I was on deadline and ini"ally said that I couldn’t make it but Managing Editor; Al said he had things pre!y much in hand and having looked over the flyer that Fred Hale gave me and seeing that the proceeds would be going to The Alzheimer Society of Ontario and to Prostate Cancer Canada, causes that are very important to me, I figured that I would head on over and check it out and show support for the event despite the fact that it was raining when I loaded my stuff into the trike and headed off towards King City. I had googled the address despite the fact that Fred had told me that it was on Weston Rd. just north of King City side road and that I couldn’t miss it. I rode on under grey to black skies hi&ng periods of fine drizzle that switched to out and out rain and back again to rain again all the way and

Call Derek 416-277-0427 pulled onto Weston Rd. and could immediately see what Fred had meant by not being able to miss it. The place was huge! The rain stopped but the skies were s ll threatening. Now I’m not a stranger to the area and was quite familiar with the property having ridden and driven by it many mes over the years and always marveled at the magnitude of the place and the way it looked with its wrought iron fence that seemed to go on forever and the immaculate grounds with all the buildings and o en thought how nice it would be to get in there and check it out some me. Well this was my chance and I didn’t have to risk being thrown off the place as a trespasser or chased out by some vicious dogs that must surely be patrolling these magnificent grounds either. I s ll have trouble believing what was going on there.

It was sort of a carnival, with a huge car show, Rock show and a bike show included within a huge piece of real estate that seemed so surreal in that rural country se ng. Well-manicured lawns that without the manicuring would be just called fields of massive propor ons were now absolutely jammed with cars, trucks, trailers, massive crowds of people, huge tents, smaller tents and monstrous tents. They had a whole carnival complete with horse and pony rides, midway rides like the ones that always used to turn my stomach when I was a kid, a huge Ferris wheel and so many other things to amuse the younger set and those young at heart that it boggled my mind. The long driveway was lined with food vendors of all descrip ons and the fields were absolutely jammed with every conceivable style, type make or model of car, truck or hot rod that you could imagine! There were an que vehicles, custom vehicles, exo c vehicles, rare vehicles and more. There were vendors galore and it went on forever! I was told that the weather had hampered a endance. Wow! A er registering for the Show and Shine, I rolled down the seemingly endless driveway past crowds of people, young, old and everything in between many with dogs of every size and breed imaginable and was directed into a large fenced in area that contained a couple of large buildings that would be the bike Show and Shine area and found a spot to park the trike. This area also had its own food and ice cream vendors. There were tons of people that I knew there like Fred, Amy, and Ted Hale with a set-up from their fine store Strictly V Twin up in Pefferlaw. Josh from JD Cycle and many, many, more. Some had known about this since it started and others; like myself, were here for the first me like the crew from Len’s Auto all the way from Jarvis, who seem to be everywhere these days with their fine line of trikes. I ran into a lot of friends who are heavy into vintage cars, performance vehicles and hot rods who have also been coming here since the beginning but the addi on of motorcycles is a new feature that they have added on. This could and should be an ar cle of its own as there was so much to see and do and I was unable to take it all in. There was just too much ground to cover and just so long to do it. They had some great entertainment with the Carpet Frogs

Cruising With Critter along with Rick Emme" performing on the massive stage and with the huge network of speakers that were spread throughout the property you could hear them everywhere. Even the short period of rain couldn’t ruin this event as people either took shelter under the many canopies that were set out or like myself, just waited it out wandering the grounds and got a li"le wet. Danny “The Count” Koker and Kevin Mack were there signing autographs in one of the buildings and there were huge line-ups of people wai ng to see them throughout the day. They had a Fender guitar that was autographed by many famous performers such as Jose Feliciano that they auc oned off along with other items like a football signed by legends Pinball Clemmons and Doug Flu#e. The guitar raised $6500.00 and all the money went to charity. I had never heard of this event or Tim and Brenda before but it is a magnificent event and Tim and Brenda both seem

like fascina ng people with great values and I would like to meet them some me as I’m quite sure that this isn’t all they do. It was a great day, well worth the ride to King City as it was fun and restores my faith in people. People doing the right things, for the right reasons and not only pu ng their money where their mouths are, but pu ng in lots of me and effort as well and it is inspira onal. They raised $100,000.00 dollars and which was split between the two chari es that each had representa ves there to accept the cheques. The trike won a trophy too. It’s first, and I will set it in my shop and I will look on it with pride. This was a massive undertaking and would require a huge crew pu ng in long hours to pull it off and from what I saw they all did a great job. Thanks to all!

As usual Lincoln County members and friends had the Show site trimmed and laid out perfectly to handle all the classes from Vintage to Wild. Well first things first, a large grill (hamburgers & Hotdogs) and the beverage area, complete with friendly well-staffed Ladies and Gents, that was my first target. Burger and Drink in hand, me to wander and check out all the bikes in this “Field of Dreams”. This is also a social event , finding old and new friends crowding the shaded picnic benches, plannin’ a trip or just catching up. A er the painstaking job of judging got done, the awards were handled by Two Beau ful Ladies that handed out the trophies. A classy end to a great day.

Rocky’s H-D Pork Dover 2014 Wow! When Rocky’s throws a party, people show up in huge numbers! These folks know how to throw a party and Pork Dover was no excep on! It was a beau ful day for just about anything but tailor made if you’re planning a great motorcycle event and that is exactly what Rocky’s had today! Mother Nature sure dealt them an awesome hand and they played it out perfectly! Of course that is what you expect from Rocky’s HarleyDavidson’s crew, who’s years of experience has taught them that it isn’t just having the cards but knowing what to do with them that makes the difference between just an event a great event. The knowledgeable crew at Rocky’s were definitely aiming for great, and I think they hit there mark! We were arriving a li$le later than planned and as Bad Bob and I neared the massive, well-kept property it was evident that they had go$en all the support that they could ask for from the motorcycle community that they have supported over the many years in business and that, that community was out in full strength to show their apprecia on and to support the event and the store! The huge parking lot was absolutely packed with all kinds of vehicles but mainly motorcycles and spilled out onto and also lined both sides of the street which were hard pressed to accommodate all the overflow. Bob and I weaved through what narrow passageways that were le& among the enormous display of Harleys and found

enough space to park. I know that anything bigger than a motorcycle would not have been able to get in there and I was happy with my decision to bring Petoonia today and not the trike or I would have had to leave it out on the street. In fact even walking and naviga ng our way through that lot full of bikes was a challenge, as avenue of bikes would often lead to a dead end on and we had to squeeze between bikes to get through. As usual they had lots going on The Charity Bikini Bike Wash (There was no way that I was ge'ng Petoonia out of her parking spot, no ma$er how pre$y the girls were or how many there were!) vendors, displays and all kinds of specials on parts, clothing, jewelry and other items stretched along the front of the dis nc ve building and inside the store was absolutely packed and the staff was busy but were more than capable of dealing with the rush. These folks are seasoned pros and work well under pressure. Outside it was a true carnival midway, kind of atmosphere with games for kids, ice cream vendors and other a$rac ons suitable for the younger set. There was a constant gentle breeze that not only served to cool the hundreds in a$endance but in true Carnival fashion carried the aroma of the fantas c fare being produced in the huge barbecue area and the fragrance wa&ed through and hung tantalizingly and en cingly in the air, lingering there to temp the taste buds of the a$endees and judging from the long lines that had formed into a constant, it wasn’t just me who was being lured by the siren call of the barbecues. It spoke to me “Naw

you’re looking good! You can fit a few burgers and fries and maybe a couple of sausages and one hot dog into your diet today! Sure, a couple of beer too, naw fuck the light beer! Go for it! You only live once! Nobodies calling you Porky! The sun will burn off those calories on the ride home!” Hey that’s my story! I’m s cking to it! They always say “Trust your gut!” and my gut was doing all the talking! Being experienced and knowing their customers, also means making sure that the fenced off beer garden was designed not just to set a perimeter but to also accommodate a goodly sized crowd and the en re area was, not surprisingly, full and the live band was blas ng out some good solid old Rock and Roll keeping the crowd entertained. It also came as no surprize that we found one of our Ravishing, Roving, Reporters; Manon in there surrounded by friends and partaking of a cold beverage. She had told me that she was coming, despite the fact her husband Gerry was away on business. She is never lacking for people willing to keep her company in her travels. She was especially excited today as she was out on her brand new 2013 Harley-Davidson FLHX Street Glide 103 with the kickstand extensions that her absent, but not forgo en, husband Gerry bought for her and she proudly led me to it to and showed it off. Manon has always had a perma-smile since I met her years ago, but that

smile is even more spectacular now! Gerry you are a lucky man and know how to push the right buttons but apparently another Sportster wasn’t the right one! Some mes you go a hit a few! Trial and error my friend! Now she needs to check out platform shoes and boots! Not that there’s anything wrong with her short but very pre y legs! As luck would have it I was just in me for the bathing suit compe on, and found myself a great spot in front of the stage on a chair, comfortable and prepared for ac on. They get some of the pre est girls for this event and they all seem to have great sense of humour and make the whole thing fun for all involved with a relaxed feel to it. The also girls got lots of approval from the passing trucks judging from the occasional blast of air horns. The winner was announced, presented with a lovely bouquet of flowers and crowned, the band returned to the stage and since I s ll had a long ride back to Newmarket ahead of me, with some important things to deal with when I got there, and with having Manon large and in charge, to cover the remainder of the day’s events such as the winner of the very popular, “Selfie, Harley Motorcycle Give Away”, I took my leave. I found my way back to where Petoonia sat wai ng pa ently and was now faced with the challenge of ge ng out of there as the place was s ll packed. A er some wiggling and jiggling and a short run across the grass, I pointed Pe onia’s front wheel eastward and we were off and heading for home. It was another wonderful day sharing some great weather, food, cold beer and entertainment with some fantas c people and some fantas c hosts! The proceeds of the event went to The Canadian Cys c Fibrosis. Thanks to Rocky’s Harley Davidson for Pork Dover 2014 and all that you have done and all that you con nue to do, this could well become an Annual event.

81 Toronto East Show & Shine 2014 It was a spectacular day, with sunshine all the way and I was feeling great heading down the 404 to a spot that I’d never been before to what would turn out to be a fantas c event. I was to have come down for this event last year but when I went to leave, a massive rain up our way, forced me back and lead me to the conclusion that the Show and Shine would surely have been called and that they would go for the rain date. Unable to confirm what was happening I went with my ins ncts and they were wrong.

This year there would be no confusion! The sun was shining brightly and it was super warm. I had the trike’s chain issues all sorted out and she was running along like a dream and we rolled into the 81 East Toronto Clubhouse and had no trouble finding a place to park. It was s ll early however, and that would change very quickly. I grabbed my camera and started making my way through the throngs of familiar faces . I ran into Clint and he was smiling broadly, indica ng that

authenticltd@rogers.com / www.authenticltd.com he was really happy with the turn out and he was about to get even happier as it was about to get a whole lot busier. I would walk from one end of the property to the other and each me when I turned around more bikes had rolled in and more people. The large property was soon absolutely filled. There was a constant roar of Harley’s that filled the air mingling with the sound of people enjoying themselves and lent something exci ng to the atmosphere. Then there were the smells as the exhaust from all those Harley’s rose up and mingled with the smoke from the barbecues and created an exci ng smell that defied defini on but screamed excitement! They served a constant stream of excellent burgers, hot dogs and sausages throughout the day and they even had a whole pig roas ng tantalizingly on a spit and when combined with the many salads and condiments and other goodies

full of support items and they were doing a great business throughout the day as well and seemed to be rivaling the barbecues in terms of interest. The a ernoon flew by and it seemed like I’d only just got there and it was me to announce the show and shine winners and Clint and Bryan graciously did the presenta ons. It was unusual to see Clint as a presenter rather than a recipient as he is a strong compe tor at the many field meets that he a ends and usually comes away with several trophies. But they did a great job and it was evident that they were having fun doing it! It was about this me that the Bikini Bike Washes began and it was soon evident that any thoughts I had of ge ng the trike washed would have involved a lot of me as there was an instant, long and constant line up to have the bevy of beau es that were performing the task clean bikes that probably didn’t need washing in the first place and as the bikini tops disappeared and the water fights began it became more of a fun fest anyhow! I had a great day and look forward to next year and if you’re looking for a great place to be mark this on your calendars as a must attend event. Thanks for a great day! On a side note; A personal friend of mine, lost his Harley watch somewhere on the property that day and he has a strong sen mental a achment to it. There is a cash reward offered for its return. If you found it please contact me, at The Riders Mag and I will put you in touch with the owner.

ANATOMY OF A SUCCESSFUL BIKER EVENT . . . Start with a very worthwhile cause . . . Populate the event with compa ble (both on the machines & off) clubbers & bikers . . . Plan and execute an exci ng motorcycle ride to a comfortable loca on . . . PARTY, PARTY, PARTY! Faithful to the defini on - the Annual Ontario Confedera on of Motorcycle Clubs Unity Ride was a huge success!! The ride took place June 21st with over 55 bikes in a endance. Quite a testament to our member ship dedica on to the cause considering all the other events taking place throughout the province on that par cular weekend! Many scoots were piloted by representa ves from 15 motorcycle clubs which were joined by numerous other machines ridden by OCC Independent members and supporters. Storm and myself, accompanied by our brides, joined the ever-expanding group of friends; which had staked claim to the Husky parking lot on the outskirts of London. During the riding season my precious free me is a quicksilver commodity subsequently; I had exhausted a shitload of that specific commodity since this steel cowboy last ventured beyond Hamilton. The biker life is unique ‘cuz no ma er how tardy or neglected biker friendships (forged under adversity) go on forever - so it was quite an upli ing experience to reacquaint myself with many estranged brothers and sisters before the machines fired up to signal li -off. The line of bikes, under the guidance of Queensmen M.C. members, assembled quickly and moved in precision towards the open road. (Shazam, the good ones make it look easy, Eh Ollie?) Under a hot and blazing sun, the double column rolled uninterrupted from London, Ontario to Amherstburg, Ontario. Although there were many OPP cruisers parked along the route; the par cipants enjoyed an undisturbed environment throughout the day. I was also pleasantly surprised that the scheduled pit stop remained hassle-free despite the OPP cruiser which was conspicuously posi oned at the back of the A&W parking lot.

What an amazing finish to an amazing Unity Ride and the Queensmen M.C. deserve all the kudos I can muster. Thanx Brothers! MEMO TO SELF – visit out West more o#en. This month’s OCC feature club is the Queensmen M.C. The QMC has been a long- me supporter of the Ontario Confedera on of Clubs and, although I have seriously exercised my recollect powers, I am unable to pinpoint when the QMC was not an OCC member club. The club began as the Rampant Lions in Windsor and was started by Ted McCabe (aka Cheyenne) who remains an ac ve member today. The year was 1959 and the club changed its name in 1960 to the Queensmen. The M.C. designa on was added a few years later. QMC celebrated its 55th anniversary on July 19, 2014 with a huge party featuring nine bands. The club gives back to the community by suppor ng local chari es such as the “On a Mission for the Downtown Mission of Windsor”. QMC currently has chapters in Sparta and Amherstberg. The member commitment to Queensmen M.C. is underlined by the many lifers ac vely par cipa ng in the club’s ac vi es. The future of QMC

The sprawling building houses a covered pa o - generous bar – an amazing catering-sized & fully equipped kitchen – a stage for entertainers and loads of sea ng space both inside and out. Former President and ac ve member Bob Loblaw (aka Guardrail) is also a Riders Mag contribu ng writer who scribes a monthly report on ac vi es etc. occurring in his patch. The OCC Unity Ride was first envisioned as a way to debunk the Biker Enforcement Unit’s excuse that an impending biker war was imminent in order to ra onalize its discriminatory campaign a g a i n s t clubbers. Interes ng to note that the Unity Ride has been an annual event since 2006 and the BEU harbinger of doom is no

more a reality now then it was back in the day. Although the Unity Ride of today is more social event than protest rally; the members of the OCC are firm in their resolve to exercise every opportunity to discredit the unfounded predic ons of law enforcement. The gathering is always an important annual event in our lifestyle ‘cuz the ride is purely about the peaceful interac on between motorcycle clubs. The day is organized to highlight the efforts of the OCC and is not about helping others outside the life - although if it wasn’t for the biker affirma on to assist the downtrodden and less fortunate in our society many chari es would wither and die. The Challenges of a Promoter The past couple of weeks have been quite the roller coaster for me. It started by me mangling my thumb and ge ng surgery. The doctors say I’m lucky to have kept it, now my thumb heals with a couple of pins and one less artery. Turns out the healing process is more painful than the accident. How did it happen? I wasn’t doing anything heroic, and I didn’t do it riding, just simply happened by trying to li a piece of steel out of a bin. What I can say is that it’s extremely difficult to do daily tasks with one hand, and even more so, trying to organize a major event like the Thunder Fest. The Thunder Fest is a double header weekend event that consists of races at Leamington and Wheatley Ontario. These races have been promoted by the Erie Ramblers Motorcycle Club for over 25 years. Leamington draws thousands of dedicated spectators, and has always provided entertaining racing around the beau ful half mile facility. This year the club decided to partner with Flat Track Canada to help spread the awareness of Thunder Fest. It’s always tricky working with different groups, and I was quite nervous entering the Thunder Fest weekend. I felt like expecta ons were high and I was down a “wing”, but a er we got things rolling everything started to come together, and the rela onship between the Erie Ramblers and Flat Track Canada was as if we’ve worked together for the last 25 years. The weekend started off with a rain delay in Leamington, but we caught up fast, ac ng like a well oiled machine, and the result was an entertaining show and finished on scheduled me. The entertainment the show provided was the best that it’s been in Leamington with racer introduc ons and trackside interviews. All I can say is that the weekend was a great success and the Erie Ramblers Club was a pleasure to work with. Moving forward, we have strong momentum entering into Round 8 at Woodstock on August 2nd. We put on a great show last year at Woodstock and I am confident we can do it again this year. As for my nerves, we will be working with the Western Fair District for the first me ever on August 23rd. This is certainly hyping up to be the biggest race in the schedule. The London race provides a beau ful stadium facility in the heart of the city. Parr cipants are willing to travel vel Thorold, Ontario L0S 1A0 2065 Allanport Road far and wide just to have the “On-Site Downdraft Paint Booth” opportunity to race at this facility. Joke A Travel Agent looked up from his desk to see an old lady and an old gentleman peering in the shop window at the posters showing the glamorous des na ons around the world. The agent had had a good week and the dejected couple looking in the window gave him a rare feeling of generosity. He called them into his shop, ‘I know that on your pension you could never hope to have a holiday, so I am sending you off to a fabulous resort at my expense, and I won’t take no for an answer.’ He took them inside and asked his secretary to write two flight ckets and book a room in a five star hotel. Then, as can be expected, they gladly accepted, and were off! About a month later the li le old lady came in to his shop. ‘And how did you like your holiday?’ he asked eagerly. ‘The flight was exci ng and the room was lovely,’ she said. ‘I’ve come to thank you, but one thing puzzled me. Who was that old bugger I had to share the room with? A nursery school pupil told his teacher he’d found a cat, but it was dead. ‘How do you know that the cat was dead?’ she asked her pupil. ‘Because I pissed in its ear and it didn’t move,’ answered the child innocently. ‘You did WHAT?’ the teacher exclaimed in surprise. ‘You know,’ explained the boy, ‘I leaned over and went ‘Pssst’ and it didn’t move’ A small boy is sent to bed by his father. Five minutes later.....’Da-ad....’ ‘What?’ ‘I’m thirsty. Can you bring a drink of water?’ ‘No, You had your chance. Lights out.’ Five minutes later: ‘Da-aaaad.....’ ‘WHAT?’ ‘I’m THIRSTY. Can I have a drink of water??’ ‘I told you NO! If you ask again, I’ll have to smack you!!’ Five minutes later......’Daaaa-aaaad.....’ ‘WHAT!’ ‘When you come in to smack me, can you bring a drink of water?’ An exasperated mother, whose son was always ge ng into mischief, finally asked him ‘How do you expect to get into Heaven?’ The boy thought it over and said, ‘Well, I’ll run in and out and in and out and keep slamming the door un l St. Peter says, ‘For Heaven’s sake, Dylan, come in or stay out!’’ One summer evening during a violent thunderstorm a mother was tucking her son into bed. She was about to turn off the light when he asked with a tremor in his voice, ‘Mummy, will you sleep with me tonight?’ The mother smiled and gave him a reassuring hug. ‘I can’t dear,’ she said. ‘I have to sleep in Daddy’s room.’ A long silence was broken at last by his shaky li le voice: ‘The Big Sissy.’

It was that me, during the Sunday morning service, for the children’s sermon. All the children were invited to come forward. One li le girl was wearing a par cularly pre y dress and, as she sat down, the minister leaned over and said, ‘That is a very pre y dress. Is it your Easter Dress?’ The li le girl replied, directly into the minister’s clip-on microphone, ‘Yes, and my Mum says it’s a bitch to iron.’ When I was six months pregnant with my third child, my three year old came into the room when I was just ge ng ready to get into the shower. She said, ‘Mummy, you are ge ng fat!’ I replied, ‘Yes, honey, remember Mummy has a baby

Three plus six, that son of a bitch is nine....’ His mother heard what he was saying and gasped, ‘What are you doing?’ The li le boy answered, ‘I’m doing my math homework, Mum.’ ‘And this is how your teacher taught you to do it?’ the mother asked ‘Yes,’ he answered. She came to the part of the story where ChickenLi le tried to warn the farmer. She read, ‘.... and so Chicken Li le went up to the farmer and said, ‘The sky is falling, the sky is falling!’ The teacher paused then asked the class, ‘And what do you think that farmer said?’ One li le girl raised her hand and said, ‘I think he said: ‘Holy Shit! A talking chicken!’’ The teacher was unable to teach for the next 10 minutes. A certain li le girl, when asked her name, would reply, I’m Mr. Sugarbrown’s daughter.’ Her mother told her this was wrong, she must say, ‘I’m Jane Sugarbrown.’ The Vicar spoke to her in Sunday School, and said, ‘Aren’t you Mr. Sugarbrown’s daughter?’ She replied, ‘I thought I was, but mother says I’m not.’ A li le girl asked her

TombStones MotorCycles August 2014 Builder/Shop of the Month I first spoke to Josh in November of last year just a er he opened the doors to his shop and about the same me as this new feature was just in the planning stages. He indicated then that he would be interested and knew the value of adver sing, but his budget was going toward ge ng his business up and running with the essen als like tools and other stuff like that because this was a move that was borne out of necessity rather than a planned venture, having recently been unexpectedly, laid off from his previous job and had to priori ze things and had a ght budget. He had ini ally tried working out of his home but found that it really wasn’t working for him so his friends and family, knowing his talents, encouraged him to look at his current situa on as opportunity knocking rather than a career setback and take the plunge and do what he’d long dreamed of and opened his own shop. He found a suitable loca on in Richmond Hill but it required much hard work to transform what was essen ally a storage unit into a work space and he threw himself into the task and soon had a shop that would serve him quite well and he could be proud of. These were just the first steps because before he could even begin twis ng wrenches he needed to have work coming through his doors and he had yet to build a customer base, because, as men oned earlier this wasn’t a planned move and he had none. But Josh is well known in the motorcycle community and has earned a solid reputa on as a top notch mechanic and the word soon spread about the new shop in town, who was behind it and customers in search of a good mechanic that could give personalized service started to show up and he hasn’t regretted his decision. Josh’s natural mechanical interest, ins ncts, talent and abili es were recognised early in his life

and nurtured by his father; Nigel, who owned a fleet of five trucks that he operated under the name of The Truck Man. He did much of his own repairs and maintenance and found it very useful to have a willing, interested, mo vated, nimble and compact young assistant who could fit happily, enthusias cally and handily into engine compartments and other ght confines and reach those hard to reach spots without the cursing and busted knuckles that were usually involved in ge ng the job done. He would have been seven or eight years old back then but that was the start of it all. Josh’s dad had an early bout with Polio that rendered his le side impaired. So Josh in effect became his “Le Hand Man” and was a tremendous help to his Dad and it was a role that young Josh took great pride and sa sfac on in. His Dad also rode and s ll rides a Yamaha XSK 400 that Josh built for him, but Josh’s first real experience with motorcycle wrenching came about when at 12 years of age when he bought a broken down 1982 Iron head Sportster which he fixed up and sold to an old guy in the neighbourhood who s ll rides it and to this day, each and every Spring, calls Josh’s parents to report that the bike fired right up again and will be on the road another year. That’s a strong testament to the sa sfac on level of Josh’s workmanship and mechanical abili es if I’ve ever heard one. That started the Harley itch from which, he has never recovered and quite truthfully, never wants to, as he knew then, exactly what he wanted to do for a living and his career path was set. While Josh worked on pre!y much anything and everything, doing a lot of dirt bikes before gradua ng to bigger stuff like hot-rods, muscle cars and boats and then on to bigger bikes, but his eye was ever on the prize and he never lost sight of it. It was his main focus! It was his dream! Harley-Davidson!

TombStones MotorCycles August 2014 Builder/Shop of the Month He started haun ng Barrie HarleyDavidson, handing in resumes and bugging owner at the me, Bruce Insley, who made him come back five mes to (I guess, Just to test his resolve, interest and persistence) before finally hiring him. I believe that Josh even told him that he should hire him or he’d just work on those Harleys for free, as he just wanted to work on them and learn all that there was to learn. That was in April of 1999 and he remained there for about ten years and he worked his way up to become a fully trained, PHD qualified, specialized technician as well as a red seal mechanic. He worked for about five years for another shop before his lay off and then made his decision to try it on his own. Josh is a firm believer in that, once you’ve achieved one goal, you immediately set the bar a li le higher and that you should always be reaching for something and dreaming of something and that is what keeps you hungry and makes life interes ng and a challenge. His ul mate goal is to eventually build and brand his own line of motorcycles and while that is his goal he will take the slow and steady route and work up to that by building a strong business, based on good, honest and trustworthy, service based on personal

one to one, treatment and take it from there. He is a one man show right now although I should men on that his other half; Maggie Blue, pitches in to help where and when she can and offers great support and encouragement and that is crucial at this point! While Josh is currently the sole mechanic, as well as chief cook and bo le washer and the guy who sweeps out the place at the end of the day, right now, he has things well in hand and can handle the workload and he will let the volume of business dictate what happens in the future. He started with one bench, now has four and has room for more. He is not afraid of long hours or hard work and is in this for the long haul! Josh will work on any make and model of motorcycle but prefers to specialize in V Twin although he has been ge"ng a lot of Victory motorcycles in his shop lately and finds them extremely mechanic friendly and a pleasure to work on. You can get all the usual services at Tombstones such as res, oil changes, maintenance, repairs, restora ons and rebuilds that he can do in house but he also has a large network of specialists and can do custom builds and get anything that you need done and done right. He can also get custom paint done and uses well known and extremely reputable painters such as Roger from Extreme Measures who can make your wildest fantasies a reality. Wherever your imagina!on sets as a des!na!on, Tombstones will see that you get there. Tombstones can also offer ESP work on Harleys and has The Screaming Eagle remapping program and is qualified to use it and can also get Dyno tuning and other specialized procedures done as well. They are gaining a reputa on as a fix it right the first me shop where they see the customer as more than a dollar sign. Josh and Maggie both ride and they are both quite ac ve in the Motorcycle community. They were a sponsor and participants in the recent Shades of Hope ride and have been doing very well with their entries at recent motorcycle shows. Drop by and see them some!me.

Shenanigans The Road Less Traveled With riding season in full swing, the opportunity to partake in any number of rides, events and trips, leaves many op ons open. There may be several overlapping each weekend, and countless places to go, any me of the week, depending on your area. If you have enjoyed a certain event, you may decide to s ck with it, or spice things up by taking a different route, trying something new, or just poin ng on a map to pick your des na on. I decided that THIS was the year, of going to as many places as I can, that I’ve never been to before. So far it has turned out great, decent weather, minimal traffic, awesome scenery, all with some motorcycle therapy thrown in for good measure. In June I went to Port Perry, to cover the Durham Telus Motorcycle Ride for Dad, east of Newmarket (a Featured ar cle will follow). Their charity poker run, barbeque and show and shine, helps to raise funds for research, and promotes prostate cancer awareness, throughout the area.

with Sherri O’Irish Biker Reunion for Cancer was on, and from the looks of things, it was going to be a good one. All the way up to and past, riders were converging on the small nothern town, for one of the biggest events of the year. A er visi ng Timmins, I realized that it probably IS the only big motorcycle event of the year up there, and well worth the drive. The freedom of riding allows your senses to be alive, gives you a chance to shake off the troubles and drama of the day, lets you enjoy the company of others, or bask in your own solitude. Des na ons may vary, but you never forget that feeling!

REMEMBER: Some mes, you find yourself in the middle of nowhere, and some mes in the middle of nowhere, you find yourself.

The next weekend I was off to the east of T.O., for the Outlaws MC GBNF Memorial Field Day, put on by the Toronto chapter. Members and supporters from all over Ontario, came to reminisce about brothers that have taken their last ride, and be thankful for the company of those s ll with them, a er some severe accidents. The nice weather allowed for a great ride, a barbecue and the an cipated bike games, as a memorial to those not forgo"en. Finally on the Canada Day long weekend, although not on my bike, I pointed the car north, for a last minute trip to Timmins. I have never driven that far in my life by myself, but I wasn’t about to let that stop me from seeing a couple of my dearest friends. I was enjoying the beau ful northern terrain, and on high “Moose Alert”, when I was passed by many packs of bikes, loaded down, and driving hard. It wasn’t un l around North Bay that I realized that the New Liskeard

THE RIDERS MAG ---- PAGE 31

This month’s feature guy is Jeff from Welland and this is his personal version of a tradi onal 70’s style chopper, he showed me this li le honey at last year’s Bikers Rights Organiza on Summer bash. I had put the word out for shovels and Jeff pointed his out to me, and this is his story. Jeff says that when he was a young man growing up in Dane City he didn’t get along with his father and he rebuilt his first bike a B.S.A. and le home, he travelled extensively moving back and forth between the Niagara region and the O awa Valley saying that

THE RIDERS MAG ---- PAGE 32

whenever he felt he needed to get away from everything he’d head out to O awa un l things smoothed out then eventually he would come back. Jeff didn’t really say how many bikes he has owned over the years but that first B.S.A. was 40 years ago and he’s never looked back saying that a few years later when he had been riding awhile he headed down to the ministry in the mid 70’s to get his bike license

which at that me was a sort of coopera ve between local community colleges and the ministry. A lot of teaching went on in a parking lot and the instructors were empowered to sign off on drivers licenses. Jeff says that he was laying back on his 69 ironhead sportster with his feet up on the handlebars, he says there were a lot of inexperienced riders around and they asked him if he was the instructor, of course he was not and says that he proceeded to act like a jerk to most of the throughout the day, when it came me to do a ride down the road following the verbal direc ons of the real instructor , he told Jeff on his return that his ride wasn’t impressive, he didn’t properly signal nor did he come to a full stop at the sign but he was gonna pass him anyways cause he didn’t want him back in the class in the next session. Sounds familiar to more than just me I’m be ng, we all had something going on at some point in our lives and we squeaked through because of either the mercy or frustra on of the instructor, probably mainly in high school. As me went by he perfected his art of fabrica ng parts for his motorcycle saying that he never bought anything that was not absolutely necessary. Jeff says that he never had a lot of money in his life and that he always made all the parts that he could for his bikes because he didn’t have the dough to go out and buy the parts that he needed and he says that he was always an avid reader of Donny Petersen’s column not just in this mag which Donny has been contribu ng to since the very early days but as most know Donny is a famous tech writer and is well read in many na onal and interna onal publica ons and we are fortunate that he came on board early with the mag to make it a be er read, and for Jeff to build be er bikes right? So a li le more than 20 years ago disaster struck for Jeff saying that he was involved in a very serious accident in the city of Welland that year, it was a familiar story he was riding down a

street in downtown Welland past a bar, there was a bunch of guys outside the bar, he waives as he rides by and a truck coming off a side street who while not paying a en on pulls right out in front of Jeff and his motorcycle, amid the commo on the spectators from the bar rush down the street to see what’s up, the guy panics thinking he may be in danger and further runs over Jeff and his bike literally running him over. He showed me some pics of him in the hospital and wholly shit, you’d have to wonder how someone who looked so thoroughly maimed and torn apart could possibly be alive and further ever recover from such a disaster, he also had pictures of the mangled bike as well saying that it destroyed his foot and knocked all his teeth out of his mouth. He was in such bad shape that when he was brought to the local hospital they felt that they could not deal with the amount of trauma that he had suffered and loaded him in an ambulance and shipped him off to a hospital in Hamilton. Fortunately he was in a place where they were able to deal with his many traumas and problems fixing him up as best they could he says that he has full plates now for teeth as what few teeth he didn’t lose as a result of the accident

had to be yanked out to facilitate his replacement teeth, geez that’s rough. Jeff said while he was recovering he kept himself busy restoring a 1946 Chevy pickup truck installing a modern drive line into it, which much like the bikes he builds he fabricated many of the parts himself and did everything he could to save a buck or two. Now that he’s mostly physically healed up from the accident a couple decades ago he’s back to building bikes for himself and some of his closest friends only and despite his limited abili es on computers and the internet he has hooked up with a group calling themselves “Half Dead Choppers” and this is his most recent build. Jeff spent some me a few years back working for Jim and Lorrie at the Eagles Nest and is s ll close friends ge ng together for rides and a ending a few events in the area. Jeff wants to send a shout out to the good folks at the Eagles Nest who helped him obtain some of the parts that he couldn’t make for himself. What did I think was the coolest? That fuel gauge on the side of the tank, Jeff says his brother out in Dane City helped him out with that welding the threaded tube into the side of the tank, which by the way Jeff says he picked up at a swap meet way back in the 70’s. Thanks to Ashley for modelling on the bike.

I was thinking just the other day what was my life like before I knew Christ. You might say I was average, in debt, struggling to make ends meet. I didn’t know how to be a husband and my marriage was hanging by a thread, a very fine one. I was failing at life, I was a nobody but I have learned God is a master at making champions out of nobodies. God has done more in my life and has taken my ministry far beyond what I could have ever dreamed or imagined (Ephesians 3:20). I know if you have surrendered your life to Christ and met the risen Savior, then your life is not the same as it used to be either. God is s ll right now working behind the scenes to do even greater things in my life and yours. He is not done with your family, he is not done with your health. He is not done with your finances, emo ons, mind or your call to serve Him!. I am challenging you now to lay upon it, hold fast upon it and do exactly what He said EXPECT IT AND IT WILL COME! It is the nature of God to bring increase in your life. If you look up “to become greater” in the dic onary it says to become greater in size, amount, degree, numbers and in quan ty. A er the psalmist said you would increase more and more he also says you will be blessed. We know that the blessing is an empowerment to prosper. That means God’s increase in your life will bring financial stability as well. Jesus also tells us “ ITS PROSPERITY WITH A PURPOSE! Always stay commi ed to increase your sowing when God brings increase into your life. That’s how you keep the cycle flowing – uninterrupted prosperity. As you sow your “greater seed” give with praise in your heart to God. Scripture tells us “Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised (Psalm 48:1). When you are thankful and praise him for great things He has done, you open the door for even Greater blessings. Pastor Dave david.neals@nexicom.net

Riding The Big Head must do the Thinking

Just as The Dingo (Paul from the Schwa) and I were leaving for Buenos Aries, a prospec ve friend gets picked up by a chick in Porto Alegro. The girl wants a threesome. So they invite another girl to his room. In the room, the two girls want another girl so they can all have a really good me. He cannot believe his good fortune. Soon their third partner arrives. She puts a big caliber handgun to his head. He is robbed of everything. However, he is lucky; he is alive. Here, many mes murder precedes the robbery. I wonder why he wasn’t killed. A week later, I learn that a cop was running the girls and authorized the robbery but no killing. Crime respects nothing and knows no boundaries in Brazil.

Sleeping in the Gu!er

Over the years, I have learned that one cannot appreciate the finer things of life unless experiencing the other side. I have been sleeping in clubhouses (fun), lowlife hotels, which can have their own charm (some mes) and the such thus far. Now, I am in Buenos Aries (BA). It is Easter plus thousands of friends are descending on the city. The last me I was in Argen na, I was on the wrong side of the tracks in a clubhouse. This me we are staying downtown by the harbour on the ocean. Nice, very nice! All the 5-star hotels are booked solid. I find a 4-star hotel downtown.... The Claridge. What a cool spot! The lobby and 300’ bar is all hardwood...not our veneers. Hand carved, thick exo c, beau ful, luxurious

hardwoods, accented by marble floors and stairways. What is le$ is thick, opulent wallpaper. The creme-coloured doors to our rooms are slightly curved, ornate with wainsco%ng. A door is not just a door here...it can be a work of art. The gym and swimming pools are on the third floor. I go to the gym....I am happy....I skip, work my stomach and shadow box. My arms are heavy from the many kilograms of beef I have been fed nonstop. And the food...I am in heaven....fruit, yoghurt, and nuts, and whole grains, and all that is good for you....let me not forget the salads....and there is beef! Even at breakfast; I cannot escape it but now there are other choices, many choices. We walk the beau ful downtown core. Our friends are everywhere, riding, walking, si%ng in the parks or Bistros, hotel lobbies, and the clubhouses. The sun is shining, the streets are packed, the harbour is beau ful. Egil from Bergen Norway is one of my traveling partners....he tracks me down here. It looks like Paul (the relentless Dingo) is another partner now. The Dingo, Egil, and I are hooking up with a Rio de Janiero friend next year. We will ride the coast of Brazil for 5 days north to the mouth of the Amazon. It will then be a 5 day ferry ride to the center of the Amazon to the very cool city of Manaus. I can hardly wait to find a school of Piranha; point them out to Paul, and then push him into the water. I think I be&er check that he does not have any heart problems first. He will be fine as long as he is not cut and bleeding. These fish

are afraid of humans because we are so much bigger than them....bleeding?....well that is quite the opposite. We will then take a 3-day ferry back to Belem on the Amazon. Then we ride 3 days south through the jungle to Rio. What is more fun and what is more dangerous? The jungle or Rio? We shall find out.

The Front Page

At first we are a curiosity. People have heard of us and stare...some want their pics taken. A woman wants to pose with us if she can wear my vest while her boyfriend takes a picture. The weekend approaches...the boys are rolling in from round the world. The airport is jammed. The downtown core is full of US... Americans, Russians, Ukranians, Croats, Serbs, Thai, Japanese and dozens of other countries. Only WE know how to cross century old hatreds, conflicts, religious differences as WE genuinely like (a lot) each other. However, I digress. I look down at a street newspaper’s front page picture. The Andes Mountains and Chile are in the background.

Russia and the Ukraine

My Russian and Ukranian friends hang with each other. They re of the constant ques ons. So, they hug when asked. This says it all in my world. My friend Ivan was brought up in Ukraine and was part of the boys from Kiev. Ivan has a Russian passport as Ukraine was part of Russia un l a few years ago. The Ukranian government kicked him out of his homeland because of a piece of paper. The boys from Moscow took Ivan in and gave him a new home. I quote Ivan “Fuck the system. Ukrainians and Russians are brother na ons. What really happened in Ukraine- all the world can see now, that poli cians from both sides are ready to legalize cannibalism, if it will be nessesary for their business reasons. It never can happen in OUR world!” Bikers are bikers. We do not worry about greedy polil cs as brotherhood will always prevail,

Full Moon over Buenos Aries

I think there is a famous song about a full moon over Buenos Aries. Tonight is a clear sky with a beau ful full moon. The stars, moon and the sun look much nicer in the Southern Hemisphere...probably because there is less pollu on. Paul and I walk down by the harbour where there are hundreds of cool gourmet restaurants and Bistros. I now know why BA has the reputa on it has. The food is some of the best I have eaten world wide. I don’t like salmon that much but am in love with the salmon they serve here. They casually serve salmon as an appe zer before the inevitable beef along with a host of other delicious aper fs with unique baked-on-the-premises delicious breads. I might even have some steak tomorrow. It sure looks good here.

Eva Perone

Tomorrow, we walk to Eva Perone’s grave. Argen nians look at us as if we are crazy when we ask where the building is that Perone (Madonna in the film and play) sang from. She is not much liked here by some (Perone not Madonna). Then there are those that didn’t want a whore (Madonna) playing a saint (Perone). We meet a local street hustler with curly hair. He is diminu ve and has personality. He is half the size of the friends I am with as we ride downtown streets in an open air bus. Bikers have a way with nicknames. A voice booms from behind me “Hey Curly...got any smoke?” Bikers can also see into people’s pockets. Curly offers to smoke his weed with us. We can spot a hustle before the hustle begins. A friend wants to look at his stash...Curly shows him...my friend says its crap...Curly says sorry. My friend says “lets smoke it anyway...a shi$y high is be$er than no high”. Curly is becoming one of the boys or so he thinks. He sagely advises us that the city is dangerous but he will protect us. Curly is funny... we keep him around. Madonna sings from the Balcony in the Eva

Riding Perone movie. I finally find where Eva Perone supposedly sings to her people. It is the Pink (Presiden al) Palace. Curly offers to take me. I decline. Curly points to a lone balcony in the middle of the tower of the fanciest hotel here. Curly says this is also a very famous balcony...every Argen nian knows this balcony. “Go on” says I”. Curly says “Slash (Guns & Roses) was here. He dropped his pants and stuck his ass over the balcony!” Robbery is epidemic here but it is a strict Roman Catholic country also. Pros tu on is rampant and tolerated but public nudity is a big deal. So… back to Eva. Madonna sang from the balcony in the movie. In real life, Eva, the second wife of the President had humble beginnings. She loved her people but did not sing. However, she gave a speech to her people from the balcony.

The City of the Dead

Recoleta is the famous graveyard (City of the Dead) in Buenos Aries. It is all above ground with crypts and mausoleums replete with s t a t u e s , ornaments, and intricate design. Many Presidents and prominent people rest here. There is alley upon alley of intricate stone carvings and architecture. Eva Perone is buried in her family mausoleum in Ricoleta. A#er all these years there are fresh flowers placed for her daily.

The Lady and her Beloved Dog in the City of the Dead

This prominent Argen nian lady dies in the snow on a trip to Switzerland. Her body is not recovered. In Buenos Aries, her faithful dog senses this and runs away. Both are now missing. The tomb is built for the lady and her dog but it lays empty. It is now a custom for people to rub the nose of the statue lady. Her nose is worn from the rubbing over the years. People rub it hoping the dog will return. I am misanthropic (do not like people but like individuals) and a dog lover (uncondi onal love and loyalty) so I can really relate to this. I too rub the nose.

Real Life Horror: The Lady in White

In the City Of the Dead, there is the tomb for the Lady in White. She fell into a catatonic state. Everyone thought she was dead. She was not. She is buried alive. She awakes entombed. She screams, claws the inside of the casket. There is no escape. No one hears. It is night in the City of the Dead.

Che’ Guevera

Che’ the famous revolu onary fighter and leader was also a biker. He rode a motorcycle 8000 km all through South America. Imagine how grueling and dangerous that would be mostly on dirt roads. The “Motorcycle Diaries” was based on his life story. It is through this riding that Che’ who was a doctor’s son of a very rich family connected with his people. Riding THERE ARE 5 WAYS TO CREATE POWER: 1. Air ow or engine breathing; for there can be no combustion and consequent power without air. Air ow is the most important factor in creating power. Air delivery requires the expelling of spent gases after combustion. The exhaust system is the most technical component of the Harley-Davidson. Its design is an exercise in physics and the domain of 2. Cylinder compression increases the pressure on the piston crowns during their Power Stroke to spin the ywheels faster. 3. Squish turbulently mixes the fuel charge into the combustion chamber. Squish mixes the air and gas, which promotes a higher percentage of burn of what is already there. This produces more power and fewer emissions as an environmental bene!t. Stock D-shaped and aftermarket Bathtub combustion chambers combining with a at

Argentina

topped or matching piston design create air and fuel turbulence with built in squish band(s). Squish occurs when a section of the piston crown comes close to a mating portion of the combustion chamber usually a at shelf. The air and gas in this area will forcefully squish into the adjacent combustion chamber bowl mixing the fuel and air into burnable proportions. 4. A sophisticated electronic ignition coordinates fuel delivery with spark timing. 5. More cubic inches (displacement).

Che’...“Poli cs aside, Che’ was a great leader. His body was finally returned to his family, I think in the late ‘90’s a er being executed by the CIA. He had run out of ammo. He sent his last to guys to run and save themselves while he held off the CIA by himself in a pass up in the hills. He was shot in the back of the head, point blank. The CIA denied it for over 30 years and wouldn’t hand over a body because they realised this made him more of a hero to his people. No ma er what one thinks of his poli cs, you have to respect a man that will fight to the last for his beliefs.”....and give his life for his bros...sounds like a solid biker to me!

The old adage that nuthin beats cubic inches is misleading. However: Nothing beats cubic inches when coordinated with air ow breathing, compression, combustion chamber squish , and a sophisticated ignition coordinating fuel and spark. www.donnypetersen.com www.amazon.com

that he could not see before. Che’ was born in Rosario Argen na. He traveled to fight in Castro’s Cuban revolu on. He became so popular in Cuba that Castro sent him back to Argen na to fight a ba le that he could not win. He died here as Castro planned. Che’ has been a worldwide symbol of freedom since the six es, first in Bohemian and hippie subcultures...now, his image is s ll popular round the world. Che’ and Castro eliminated a brutal dictatorship in Cuba that catered to amongst other things big me American gangsters. The bar that Meyer Lansky, Lucky Luciano, and Capone drank in and ran their empires from in Havana is s ll there. I have stayed in that hotel where diplomats and the gentry now drink in the same bar in the same seats. What does this have to do with Buenos Aries?...not much except Che’ was no one to fuck with as the gangsters soon realized. My pal Badger from Ireland gives more info on

The Run Site

I am told that it is the Canadian police that circle over the run site in a helicopter. They have been at every major run in NA and Europe I have a ended over the years. Whether it really is Canadian police in this instance I am not sure because they do not like dangerous countries. Whoever they are, they are stupid. They must think this is like at home. The gangsters here have military grade hardware and delight in shoo ng police helicopters out of the sky with RPG’s (rocket propelled grenades). We are in a bad neighborhood in Buenos Aries near the clubhouse at the party site. We are surrounded by Argen nian police in riot gear... busloads of them. I count 20 buses. However, these police are not here for us. There are a series of soccer fields. One of them with buildings is for our party. The others are for organized sports leagues. They are full of kids playing in their various leagues. The police are there to protect them from the neighborhood. The police force residents into their shacks and houses forbidding them on the streets while the kids play. We are a nonevent. The cabs bringing us to the party run red lights rather than stop in the hood. Police will follow our cabs with lights flashing un l in a safer neighborhood. Argen na is not as dangerous as Brazil but robbery is epidemic here also. The difference is you are not likely to be murdered during a robbery if coopera ng so it is much safer. At the party site...everything one could possible want is here. Of the many types of delicious foods are the barbecued/smoked beef ribs. They are cooked many hundreds of pounds at a me for the boys. Bars are set up all over the place....the party is 3-days long 24/7. My problem is that I have a hard me partying for three hours, never mind three days.

The ride led by Big Show, took us to our des na on, with one stop on the way to pick up more riders. That evening started with one of the QMC famous fish fries then live music into the night. Sunday morning we had our regular OCC mee ng then everyone headed home; a great weekend all in all. The next couple of weeks had its share of events including our Shaggy’s memorial ride & show ‘n shine and a biker wedding. Congratula ons Melissa & Dozer Bfmc. London area’s largest annual bike rally is Big Balls, held at Springwater Conserva on Area. This was year was number 24. Awesome weekend with camping, bike games and music and we can’t forget the t-shirt contest. The money raised on this charity ride went to the Sunshine founda on un l one year they refused $20,000 because the money was from bikers and it may be “dirty”. The next year the London Downs Syndrome Associa on came on board and are more than happy to get money from bikers. They also run the concession and are ac ve for the whole weekend. There are also quite a few kids with downs there, having as much if not more fun than anybody. There were over 1300 registered with an es mated $50,000 going to LDSA. Sucks to be sunshine founda on. The next weekend had so many things going on it was impossible to get to them all. Hog Town Cycles had a big open house and Rocky’s had their Pork Dover day. A poker run & pig roast in Bran"ord and the Iron Sirens SOS charity ride. This weekend we are going back down to A’burg for the Queensmen Bandfest. Another weekend of camping, partying, food and of course bands. This is also to

ANOTHER INSTALLMENT OF “THE DIRT FROM DURHAM” Hey peeps hope all is well with the readers out there… for some it has been a short season…..as two of my good amigos, Hammer and Tilt both had a mee ng with the pavement, and luckily both walked away….not so for their for two wheeled Milwaukee vibrators. So heal up quick boys…and for the rest of you please ride out the season without your arriving at the same blacktop party! I have been on some larger rides one in par cular with the Rangers MC…where we met up with several other friend clubs and went up to Barrie and back with stops at

various CH’s. We have to give a big shout out to the Patchless MC who put on a really great feast for all (BTW they have an excellent CH), and thanks to the Rangers for organizing the ride. Star ng this ride from the Rangers CH while upon our northbound journey up Black Creek our taxes paid for Metro PoPo with several cruisers to pull us all over …(about 50 bikes)….the result nada ..(nothing) … other than tying up the ci zens in their cages in a “Only one guy we know that massive traffic jam… could pull this off ” apparently one of the lead rider’s helmets ....Guess who? may not have clearly displayed the DOT s cker. ( OMG what a law breaker)….chuckle. Another case of profiling due to our appearance or apparel … Last year I covered (as Cri er was way out in the southwest) …the Aces and Eights Xmas in July/Bikers Church combo…I readily volunteered to do it again this year as they are both primo events all for perfectly good causes… Durham’s Children’s Aid and Bikers church both benefit from the efforts…With luck on their side the weather was awesome..It seems the rain gods don’t want to piss on Sundance and his crew’s parade..(well actually it did the first year I went in 2012)…. but 2 ou a 3 ain’t bad…or Pastor Dave’s prayers for a sunny day were answered…either way a bonus. Arrival at the start point I ran into the A & 8’s Celebrity Santa….none other than Rusty…doing his best to greet all that know him…and he knows EVERYBODY…the club had cold drinks on hand for all..Their ladies did up the waivers …sold 50/50’s collected all the toys and dona ons ect… I es mated 160 le Oshawa to Omemee where we met up with 50 more….The route was a good one…Toronto East and A & 8’s did some amazing riding/blocking… to keep chain of bikes moving… Watching Darren make the moves from back to front was something, never really got introduced to the East guy on the Vrod…but same for his skills…both great riders..…I guess for some that old saying “Born to Ride” is

Ladies and their Harleys

This month’s feature gal is Robin and she is a big Batman and Robin Fan, so much so that last year when she finally had her bike completely redone she had the bike themed Batgirl with the logo and an airbrushed bat girl on the fuel tank with a custom paint job of black base with red pearl over and all the accessories are a well thought out compliment to a bike that she rode basically stock for the first decade she owned the bike which she bought brand new. R o b i n started out riding back in the late 90’s saying that she wanted to get off the

THE RIDERS MAG ---- PAGE 42

back of her old man’s bike and learn how to ride for herself and she picked up a 1985 rebel which she said had been passed around amongst a dozen or so different owners as the learner bike and she rode that bike for about 3 years before she decided to upgrade to a Harley like all her friends were riding. She really wanted to get to a low rider or a superglide but at that early stage her son was just a toddler and in daycare and she had a good secure job but wasn’t making a ton of money so she decided that the right plan for herself was to order a brand new 100th anniversary sportster 883XL in 2002. She says that even with the pre-order the demand for all forms of anniversary bikes she wasn’t able to get her

Ladies and their Harleys

brand new bike un l the fall of 2002 saying expec ng the huge demand the company had started producing their anniversary bikes earlier than usual produc on. Robins long term plan was to ride her anniversary bike bone stock for 5 years then trade it in on her dream bike the low rider but as o en happens with the best laid plans, circumstances change and despite her doing be er at work and ge ng promo ons other things were going on in her world that convinced her it was be er to stay with her exis ng bike and defer her ambi ons to a future date. As me went by and she grew fonder of her 883 she started to look around at accessories for the bike thinking that since the original plan was deferred that maybe she should look at some upgrades as the only change she had made to the bike since new was to put a lower profile rear re on in a effort to lower the bike to be er match her rather slight stature. She said that the changing of the rear re helped her out a li le with reaching the ground but also said that it had an effect on the speedo saying that it reads a higher speed than she is actually travelling and that she’s ge ng more km’s on the odometer per tank of fuel so early on she had tested this against her friends bike and knew that due to the re it was off by a small amount. Robins parents spend their winters in Florida and she says that she went down for Daytona a few years back and was checking out some of the vendors and saw a hollow fairing on offer and thought that would be just the thing for her bike which at the me had a plas c quick release windshield and a mom style rear back rest as she described it, saying it was

great for bringing her son on the back of the bike. The only problem was she did not like the hollowness of the fairing but the idea was planted in her head at that point and she started looking around for some form or fairing to put on the front of her bike since she was totally commi ed to the concept of upgrading her sportster as with the economy going for a crap and the trade in value of her bike dropping she figured that it could cost her upwards of twenty grand at that point to upgrade so she pressed on. Robin had the good fortune of finding this snazzy fairing complete with all weather marine speakers and knew she had found the fairing she had been looking for, she said that tunes on a bike had never really appealed to her un l she rode on the back of a Decker in Florida and hear the Allman brothers bel n out rambling man that she knew she needed tunes. So once she had her fairing sound system picked out and could plug and mp3 player in for her tunage then she turned her a en on to luggage choosing a set of saddlebags from a popular on line motorcycle parts retailer and also choosing the rather snazzy looking signal lights that did not come with the bags but were purchased then installed into the bags by

a friend of hers. The bags are actually quick release design but with the ligh ng in there Robin says that her boyfriend is going to upgrade the wiring harness for those lights so that the unplug on the outside of the bags so that they can be unplugged when she wants to remove the bags to change the look of the bike from a tourer to a street screamer. Robin says that when she had collected up all the pieces to put this ride together that she took the bike to a friend who did some welding to mount the fairing and the bags and also undertake the paint. She said that she gave them license to do what they wanted with a s pula on of no metal flake. She says that she got a couple calls asking for license and she gave them the ok to do what they wanted and she was pleasantly surprised by the back logo on the fairing and the size of the mural on the fuel tank complements of rags, and the hand painted Harley logo and pinstripe. She says she’s not really a pink kinda girl but she is really happy that she gave the guys working on her upgrades the license to apply the paint, airbrush, logos, and pinstripe and she truly does have a real original looking ride and she now says she has no plans to ever sell her bike but that someday she would s ll like to get her hands on a nice low rider or superglide.

Last year around the end of June I wrote about heading out to a li le historic town that is about a 40 minute 7174 Bank Street, drive southwest of Metcalfe, ON K0A 2P0 O awa and about a half north of the U.S. (613) 821-9090 hour border. Over the last 30 Tim & Peri years or so the village of www.bamachine.ca Merrickville has become a regular des na on for motorcycle riders from Ontario, Quebec and a fair number of riders from the Northern New York State area. No ma er which direc on you come from the roads are perfect for a great day’s ride and the village

itself is composed of lots of heritage buildings with dozens and dozens of interes ng shops, ar st’s studios and a wide variety of eateries and cafes and add to this a park in the middle of it all complete with some of the locks the Rideau Waterway has become famous for. For groups of riders having breakfast in the village every week and then strolling around the shops and park have became a summer ritual. So once a year now the village closes off part of one of it’s main streets for an outdoor motorcycle show to take place and this year the event was sponsored by Marcel & Linda Moncion, owners of the Independent Grocers store situated in O awa south. The weather was just about as perfect as a motorcycle rider could ask for and bikes were rolling into the village as early as 7:00 am and within a few hours the parks and surrounding area were filled with motorcycles. Similar to last year’s event there were areas marked on the street where the various classes of motorcycles could enter into the show & shine with more bikes entering over last year. A few weeks before the event took place I went through last year’s pictures and reposted them on facebook site that I maintain for The Riders Mag in E. Ontario and I men oned that myself and the “Paper Boyz” would be handing out copies of the Mag and that we hope a lot of the people who follow my column and are supporters of the Mag would come out and visit us. I was truly blown away, dozens upon dozens of riders stopped by our booth to thank me for pos ng last year’s pics and invi ng them to make the trip and I realized how many people consider the Mag the source of what is happening in motorcycle communi es all across Ontraio. Everyone on the Mag’s staff works hard to bring you the kind of things we think you should know about, not stories about new models of some brand of motorcycle, printed on slick paper but rather It’s all about rides, events and most of all the people and the groups that make a difference in your motorcycle community. Receiving all those thanks from riders for making them more aware of what is going on is about as good as it can get for the me we all devote to pu ng the Mag together so please when you pass a booth anywhere where someone is handing out the Mag , take the me to say hi, it puts a face to the people we do it all for! You

Motorcyco Beau folks Rock! We also brought with us the famous “Throne” that the boys made for me years ago on St Patrick’s Day out of many of the parts from one of my old Shovelheads and while that thing weighs a ton we had tons of fun ge ng people and kids sit in it and get their picture taken si ng in it. Greg & Sue Kinghorn stopped by along with the “lovely” Kathy Dorion and they are all stoked about their upcoming Big Daddy’s Cowpaddy event that will take place this year on Aug 8-10 and as usual I will be there with some of the TCB’s Paperboyz handing out the Mag’s next issue and I hope that many of you will come out and show support for this Crew. Big Daddy’s Cowpaddy is the real thing and each year the a endance just keeps ge ng bigger and they keep adding on more and more events and things to do and their rodeo and the area where it is held in is first class. There is lots of area for camping and Big Daddy’s Cowpaddy has put the money they have brought in over the years to doing a lot of good in their local community. Not long a"er the Kinghorn’s stopped by, Duane Chevalier of the Snake River Rodeo, up between Cobden & Pembroke also stopped by. Be e and I went up last summer to take part in the first rodeo and we had a great me and the gods willing, we will be up there this year because the people are friendly and the drive up the valley to get there is worth the ride itself and I hope that some of the brothers and I can help out with the rodeo and give them some extra support. A bonus surprise was the visit from Martha, from the “no kill” dog rescue that The Cel c Brotherhood supports and she honored us by bringing one of our favorites from the rescue named Quinn. Within minutes our Informa on booth was surrounded by people who all begged to pat that big grinning rascal

from the Far East.... of Ontario that is!

and he had scores of riders under his paw in no me. The Cel c Brotherhood is making a tradi on of having two Xmas celebra ons for the dogs at the rescue with one being in the Summer and the other in the Winter. Everybody will be baking healthy dog biscuits (Be e will be helping me) for the residents and each one will receive their own individually marked bag with their name on it and a Xmas tree with lights will be lit up and as a bonus, all the dogs will be ge ng lots of love and a en on, one on one while all the brothers will be wearing their elf hats. Funny how when all of us leave at the end of the day there is barely a dry eye in the group but it must be the dust or allergies! ...Bikers and dogs! It doesn’t get any be er than that. While I was up on a ten foot ladder taking pictures of the street and all the motorcycle riders walking around enjoying themselves, I came to the realiza on that while it is a great li le village, like Port Dover, it’s just streets and stores and besides closing off streets to traffic, what really makes the magic? It’s not the town it’s you the motorcycle riders who are responsible. The streets will always be there but the event can only happen when you the riders show up. I have always felt that there should be more and more street motorcycle shows happening throughout the province and while in

(613) 392-8433 www.makeitroar.com years gone by you would have been met by a stone wall from town councils for even sugges ng the idea. In this present economy where many towns are struggling to survive and where towns that were failing like Port Dover are now thriving thanks to motorcycle riders, I think more town councils might be more recep ve to the idea and in the case of the village of Merrickville there is further proof that you don’t need some special date in order to make that magic happen. A friend of mine, Doug Hellawell aka krazy doug is always promo ng all sorts of motorcycle events in the community where he lives and they are growing and ge"ng more a en on year by year so when you think about it perhaps it’s me you get together with some of your fellow riders and look into it. You could start an annual event in the town you live in and with next year having three not so great dates for Friday the 13th, maybe this might be a good reason to get something going locally. Just a thought! Talk to some of the business people in your community and get them to google or youtube Friday the13th in Dover to get an idea. Just saying! Some of the events that took place in our area where the Falcons MC with their now second annual Dice Run,

from the Far East.... of Ontario that is!

Big Daddy’s Cowpaddy had their annual poker run and the 9th annual Thousand Islands River Run, that takes place in Alexandria Bay, New York. A lot of my friend made the trip down to Laconia this year and It has been a long me since I have gone and perhaps that will end up on my bucket list for next year and I think I should add Atlan cade as well because it has been way too long since I have ridden down to see all my good friends in the Mari mes. The Forever 2 Wheels Bike Nights at Rideau Carleton Raceway have been popular but it does seem the whole summer the weather gods keep threatening rain and then the weather turns out to be perfect. Apparently the TCB are going to be star ng a number of games at the event, many of which are to promote their trauma c brain injury awareness campaign and it seems they will be crea ng a course in the parking lot out of traffic cones and riders will be challenged to navigate the pylons riding an adult tricycle and wearing special technology goggles that simulate some of the symptoms of brain concussion. Educa on with humor, great idea and besides it will be an opportunity to amuse your friends and embarrass yourself at the same me so I ask you, what could be be er than that? Just recently I heard that John Maloney, who is not only a friend and rider but one of the most dedicated guys I know to working to make things be er in the community of Smith Falls, is considering running for municipal office. John owns and operates a local business called Rideau Winery but aside from that dis nc on, he has organized motorcycle rides for charity, started a street cruise night for motorcycles and cars, set up photo ops with people pets in order to support dog rescues including the one that we support. He even worked out and trained with one of our brothers both to sharpen his skills in mar al arts and boxing but also lost a ton of weight and all for a Great North Wrestling event for charity where he “fought” using his new alias, The Grape Crusher!. Now John is the kind of guy who shows up in the middle of summer dressed as Santa to do charity work or promo on but more important his dedica on to his community while also being a strong supporter of the motorcycle community goes without ques on and I hope that he gets elected because towns like the one he lives in can use new energy and there is nothing wrong if that dynamo rides a Harley. Well that’s about it for now, the rest of July and August are going to be really busy and there will be lots to report next month and as always I remind you that if you know of an event of a business that deals with motorcycle riders and might like to adver se or carry The Riders Mag, please contact me and also you can follow me on twi er as well..but please keep in mind I am a newbie on Twi er. construc on, detour here turn there, what a mess, now I am turned around and confused, finally finding where we are and where were going. We arrived, parking our bikes, there were already about 20 or so bikes here, gonna be a good run. Inside we go, saying hello to many friends etc., a very nice place these guys have, it is my first me here at this house as the guys have just recently moved, things are coming together well. And guess what? Yes they even have a private bathroom, which really makes the ladies happy. Big Rig makes the 10 minute announcement and everyone heads out to their machines, as I go out I no ce about a dozen or so more bikes than when I went in. Geared up and ready to roll a small urn with some of Shaggy’s ashes is shown to the riders, and will ride along with Rig. It’s a beau ful ride around the London area, then a stop at the scene of the accident where his PTMC Brothers have made an awesome memorial, complete with a cross, and a pic of Shaggy, there is also a slate pa o area all leveled out. Beau ful, Just beau ful. We all say our prayers and remember our Brother, take a few pics to remember this day, Gordo brought Shagg out a beer and placed it open next to the cross, then each member made their way to the cross for a private moment with their fallen bro. Back on the bikes the ride was to go back to the PTMC House, but because I got an early start and had no me to eat, I had to drop off for food, Cannon, Hook and Hollywood also headed to the Husky for food. Thank you all at PTMC for the awesome ride you put together in memory of Shag. R.I.P. my friend, you will not be forgo en!!! FALCONS M.C. BASH A beaut of a day as I ride toward Windsor, going to meet up with fellow Riders Mag Writer Tim Armstrong and our buddy Gilles at Tim’s, we all arrive from different direc ons within minutes of each other, have a few laughs etc. and head out. The ride is perfect, beau ful day.

WWW.DUKESHD.COM As were heading down 46hwy in the distance we could see a brightly colored transport truck with a full mural honouring our soldiers, knowing this is the place we turn in and find parking, perfect spot right in front of the sign in desk, the place was packed, and a very nice place it was with huge barn that the band played in, and ice if you wanted to cool off whatever you brought to drink, there was also an old log ride car from bob-lo island, but now is being used as a flower pot. I got to talk with the truck driver and he informed me that the truck was a dona on and he not only a ends veteran

warming up, the temps were raising about 90 degrees now and sunny, whoo hoo, a er diner the door prises were given and wow was there a lot of them, the 3 of us did not win anything but oh well, great me. Also at this party I got to meet a Mr. Ralph Mayville, who when he was 20 yrs old in 1942 he was a member of the Devils Brigade, a secre ve paratrooper unit that terrorized the enemy, during The 2nd World War, but before he could make his first jump the War ended, but he was s ll given the Paratrooper wings medal. But now at 92yrs Mr. Mayville has finally made his jump, and on June 8 2014 Ralph had his official pinning of these medals at Windsor Airport by the Canadian Historical Aircra Associa on. WAY TO GO RALPH...CONGRATS Time came that I be!er get going home as I wanted to s ll get water and stuff ready for the run tomorrow, Tim and myself headed out, at the end of the driveway we both turned opposite direc ons, Gilles stayed as his nephew was playing in the band. Was great seeing many friends at this event and am sure I will return next year, thanks again. RUN TO THE NORTH WALL Well a few weeks back I contacted Dan Hayes from the North Wall Riders about the Riders Mag dona ng ice cold water to the riders at the waterfront. I went home early last night to get coolers and stuff prepared, and a good thing, it is very hot today, thankfully it is some overcast too. Filling coolers and more under a tarp I iced up with 5 bags, and by the me I got to the ride star ng point at the 594 Legion almost all had melted, so more ice is needed. I hung around socializing and shaking hands etc. and taking a few pics, or dozens of pics actually, some great people here and loads of folks from last night Falcons M.C. party, awesome turnout. Soon enough I must head down to the waterfront to set up our water etc., stopping for more ice along the way and I also wanted to have mags available also but I ran out this month as demand from dealerships and drop off points exceeded me bundles arriving. Linda and myself set up a nice 10 x 10 quick set up tent over the back of the pickup truck it’s a li!le windy so we have to stake it down as it tried to take off a couple mes, a large sign Free Water, Compliments of The Riders Mag was taped to back of truck, As I hear the bikes coming I get my camera ready and get into posi on, as the parade rolls past me I take at least 100 pics, sorry but not one of those ones turned out, seems the sun played a mean trick on me, lol, and that was the last me the sun was out. I’ve never been great at taking pictures so this really was no surprise to me. The water was ice cold and the temps were very high, so the water was going like crazy, quickly down to only 2 coolers full le and the ceremony starts, many clubs and individuals laid wreaths in tribute to the fallen, and I along with Tim Armstrong had the opportunity to lay the Riders Mag Wreath. The service was cut short as area Councillor Ron Jones did not feel well and would not be delivering his speech, which actually worked out well as the clouds turned dark and the rain began to fall. The bikes cleared out quickly and soon enough the park was empty besides some le over people and Linda and myself, s ll needing to take down our tent the rain hit hard, we got soaked, so we made a beeline for home instead of going to the Marrente!e Legion. ML&R to all our Vets. THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH. The Bad Examples R.C. is holding a fundraiser in support of THE SUNSHINE POINT CAMP. The event is tled Rescue

Riding The Ride and will take place on August 10.this 3 hour ride will begin at Windsor’s Dominion House Tavern and end at the Colchester Bar and Grill (one of our adver sers). Way to go guys, way to pic up the slack.. Big Balls Rode up Saturday met a bunch of friends at the TSC store in Leamington, took #3 to John Wise Line and came in the back way, knowing our site is to the le! at the first road, we registered and headed in. Well our guys, The Queensmen M.C. were sharin’ a large site with Boozefighters M.C. Dozer from the Boozefighters and his bride Mel were celebra ng their recent nup als and were on their honeymoon. Congrats guys. The Big Balls rally is one of the bigger Southern Ontario events, where all proceeds go to Downs Syndrome, there was over 1000 registered campers, and the bikers games had to have a limited number of par cipants if all was to be done by dark. The games went well. First the weenie bite, then the water balloon, slow rage and then the burnout pit which stayed ac ve for quite some me as folks went up and burned their rear re off, the rubber smoke filled the air and I am sure helped deter the mosquitos. A nice roast beef diner was served, and a lot of fun was had. Come mid-evening I would head for home, I must cover the Red Devils M.C. show and shine in the morning and I want to be feeling alive and well, and staying I probably would be a li%le rough. A very large sum of money was raised and Lonny announced it was over 20k this year which brought tears to his eyes. Also the event gave the PTMC guys a in memory plaque to remember Shaggy by. A very nice gesture. RED DEVILS SHOW AND SHINE What a perfect day for a show and shine weather wise , off I head to Chatham to check out the event, Riding in alone as I le! my brothers at the Big Balls Rally last night, I knew I wanted to a%end this event and if I was to stay there I probably would not feel so good this morning. Arriving just a!er the start, the place is packed, there are already 3 rows of bikes lining this long parking lot. The guys had me start the 4th row and a good thing too as that row quickly filled up and row 5 and then row 6 filled. There was no cost to enter and each bike was numbered on the headlight for the Peoples’ Choice show, every category was Peoples’ Choice, very cool. A few booths along the back of the building, one had loads of biker style jewellery and an assortment of drawings of the Sons Of Anarchy crew, some nice artwork, another booth was the Big Brothers and Big Sisters booth where ckets were sold and on Saturday Aug 23 some lucky person will win their 2014 Dyna FXDL Low Rider . As I was taking photos of all the beau ful machines I no ce a van across the street taking my picture, of course I go to inves gate and sur enough the boys in blue were photo’ing the show and shine. I guess they like shiny bikes too. I thought maybe I need to take their pic too, so as I stand in front of their van taking their pic you can see both their cameras taking my picture too, just unreal we are in the middle of a parking lot , on a Sunday a!ernoon. Yep we need them taking our pics. We were all called to the Bar adjoining this parking lot and on the table is a whole row of beau ful trophies, the numbers on the

headlight was called out to the winning entrants and the trophies were distributed, guessing I don’t have enough chrome on my 2012 Limited to got one lol. All the winners were very nice machines. Congrats to all the trophy winners, there were many worthy entrants. Awesome day thanks for having this. Great me, Great friends.. Remember our adver sers are what keeps this mag going.
