THE RIDERS MAG -----PAGE 5
Cruising With Critter I find it hard to believe that this is the September/October issue already and that the riding season is winding down. It seems like just yesterday that we were all anxious for winter to release us from its icy grip so we could get out on the road with our beloved machines and experience what The Summer 2015 held in store for us. The Trike is certainly doing the job it was intended to do and is as done as she is going to be for right now, at least until Petoonia’s new parts come back from my buddy Jabber where they are getting clear coated. I’m pleased as Hell with the new artwork I did for her and can’t wait to see her all back together and on the road with all the new stuff I have for her installed but I’m now running out of season. I still have stuff to do to the Trike yet as well, like paint and getting the reverse gear installed and such It was an extremely busy time for us here at the Mag and we were challenged much of the time and our volunteer crew stretched to the limit to get out to all the events that were being held in every corner of the Province and beyond. We are ever expanding as the demand for and popularity of the Mag increases and we will expand further yet into other areas and will endeavor to provide coverage to all areas to make it “Everybody’s Riders Mag” not just Southern Ontario or Eastern Ontario. In order to do it we need your support, as while it is a free publication, it doesn’t get printed for free, nor is distribution free and we don’t get free gas to operate our motorcycles or other vehicles or free heat and hydro and the taxman isn’t giving us a free ride either. We have real costs and these costs are borne by our advertisers. Support them and let them know that you saw their ads in
The Rider’s Mag so that they know that their ads are working and that their money was well spent. We need the support of the riding community as well. There are so many clubs and organizations who are holding events and are competing for the same support of the same riding community and many want the support of publications such as ours to get the word out about those events. We try and get out to as many as we can and have even given small free plugs in our individual columns for events and businesses in our individual areas in order to offer some support but we can’t do it all for free. We get requests all the time for free advertising and free coverage to go with it! We can’t do it! If you want to reach our readers through our publication and expect to get it for free; save your time and the expense of the phone call, as I can give you my answer here and now; NO! Some get real indignant that we should expect them to pay for that full page, full colour ad that they requested to run for free. It doesn’t matter if you are doing it for Charity, we are not a charity. We will give you a fair price and offer a discount for genuine charities and may even offer further incentives but free just isn’t going to happen! That being said; I hope to see many of you out at the Annual Show and Shine that we are holding once again at Black Gold on Gorham St. in Newmarket on Aug. 30. We have a great band booked, and have improved seating and shelter for attendees as I went out and bought some great picnic tables, awnings and umbrellas. We will once again have our own beer garden with some great food, cold beverages and door prizes. All in support of Alzheimer’s awareness!

We have some great looking trophies and a bunch of vendors and admission is free. We will also have some newly designed Riders Mag support stuff like; T shirts, pins and stickers. Death is something that we all have to deal with in life and once again it has taken from us some of our brothers and sisters so we at the Mag offer our heartfelt condolences to the friends and families of those taken from us.
Holmes – Thomas William Hughes AOA – retired – Sept. 25, 1956 – July 27, 2015,
Holmes, a long-time member of the Outlaws MC who has been retired for some time due to poor health lost his battle with Cancer July 27, 2015 and was buried by his brothers at the Woodland Cemetery in London alongside his Club Brothers, Willie and Jody (Mr. J) on August 1, 2015. I was unaware of his passing until after the fact and was unable to attend. I would have liked to have paid my respects. RIP, L&R.

death of Big D. He died in a collision while on a Club Run in Northern Ontario. While he died doing what he loved to do; riding his motorcycle with his Brothers it doesn’t diminish the pain felt by anyone who knew him. He was, by all accounts, one of the nicest people you could hope to meet and his loss makes the World a little sadder and a little darker as his light has gone out but still better for him having lived, loved and been loved. He always took the time to come over to me a talk awhile whenever our paths would cross and he was so full of life and boundless energy and especially proud of his dramatic weight loss. His smile, his enthusiasm and his love of life was inspirational and infectious and will be missed. I was unable to make it out to pay my respects personally due to work and other commitments which I couldn’t get out of but the Mag was represented through our contributors who were there. I have seen an excellent You-tube Tribute and the video (Both are available on The Riders Mag Facebook pages) of the funeral procession and am positive he got a sendoff worthy of the man he was in life. RIP, L&R! He will ride forever in the hearts and memories of all who knew him.
Red Dog – George Irving Wild Ones MC
Oct. 8, 1964 – July 24, 2015
I was shocked and saddened to hear of the untimely
I couldn’t possibly say anything which would be a more appropriate tribute to Red Dog than the card that was provided to me, it reads in part; George ‘Red Dog’ Irving, passed suddenly of heart failure on Sunday June 14, 2015 at his Milton home of 50 years at the age of 117, after a time machine mishap while

known since our teens and who also had a vintage car on display out on Main Street) and his Son Jody joined us and we wandered off down Main Street to check things out and get some breakfast. It is great to just walk through town and soak up the wonderful atmosphere, hear the great old songs coming from the large speakers that have been set up throughout the town. Not so loud that you couldn’t hear conversations but loud enough to lend a great nostalgic feel to the event. They had tons of stuff for people of all ages here! There were clowns and large Mascots and even Now Helping people for over 12 years. a big slice of pizza walking through See what others say. There is just so much to take in it is mesmerising. By the time we got back to the Legion things had really picked up as now there were lots of fine looking motorcycles throughout the attempting to travel to the future in search of the winning lot and lining lottery numbers. He had a lifelong interest in motorcycles, both sides trucks, great music and winning the lottery. He will be missed of the Street by all who knew him. It was warming up fast under that bright sun and the beer garden beckoned us with the lure of cold beverages and great food. Everyone was enjoying the tunes from the excellent band that was now playing on the stage. The place certainly filled up fast and soon seating under the large tent was hard to find. I was surprised to see a couple of old friends that I have known since my teens out enjoying the

day. Famed pin-striper, airbrush artist, illustrator and all around good guy, Tramp Warner and his Bride, best friend and soulmate Penny. It was particularly special to see them as Penny has had a lot of health issues (To put it mildly) over the past few years and it is great to see her on the mend, out and about and back in the wind. The day flew by and before we knew it, it was time to give out the trophies say our goodbyes and head off. Congratulations to the organizers on another fantastic event! See you next year!
ABATE – Final Frontier 2015
Can you feel the wind in Heaven Can you hear us call your name Can you see the tears that fall This world won’t ever be the same Can you feel the wind in Heaven Can you feel the wind in Heaven When we gather in a group While the Men hold back the tears can you hear the sound of silence Leather clad and watery eyes When we look where you once stood And know we’d rather have you here Can you feel the wind in Heaven I hope there is a Biker Heaven Can you hear the Ladies cry Where we will meet again Can you feel our broken hearts And shake your hand that day When we have to say Goodbye When you Welcome Us in
I actually had company for the ride to and from, this event, as friends; Dusty, Karen and Greg, Big Jim and a couple I had just met, Brad and Leslie all wanted to go along for the ride. Karen and Greg had been here before and have been sold on this event ever since and through their stories and mine, the others knew they had a treat in store for them. It was an absolutely gorgeous day (Despite the weather people’s dire predictions of torrential rains and all kinds of Hell and happenstance.) if you ignored the dark ominous, clouds that would gather occasionally before giving way to sunshine and blue skies. I generally ride most everywhere alone as I don’t get to stay for the whole event and usually arrive and leave early as I have other events to cover so this was just an added treat for me to have someone to ride with. I have been coming here every year, with the exception of last year as I broke down on the way there, since they moved the annual event to this wonderful property and had no intentions of missing it this year. Now this was sort of a selfish move on my part as we had two other Roving Reporters in attendance as well; Ravishing redhead Sherry O’Irish and the Sensuous and Sensational Sharon “Sticker Chick”, who had both been there from the start and would be staying until the end and will both have their individual
THE RIDERS MAG -----PAGE 9
but they surprisingly, said that they would prefer that I did it. I would find out why, very soon when I saw both of them participating in the games. I actually love doing the camera work here so it was no sacrifice although I wish that I’d brought my “Critter Sitter” along. They had changed a few things up this year relocating the vendor’s row, repositioning the games area and changing up the Mud Wrestling pit and a bunch of other stuff as they are always trying to make improvements not for the sake of change but to make each event better that the last. I took several tours of the camping area with Sticker Chick on the back of the Trike to hand out Mags and just say hi to all the friends I have made here over the years. We stopped to talk to Angie a while and was surprised to
write ups in their own columns. I come in just for the afternoon and cover the games and enjoy the company and hospitality of this wonderful group of people. The games here are great and get fantastic participation and I offered to let either or both of the ladies cover them

whole pile of frivolous charges being laid. This along with other disturbing reports that I’ve been hearing lately and some news reports (Topless Women) leads me to believe that some of these overzealous protectors of the Public good in this area, like to put their own translations on existing laws or perhaps just like to make them up as they go along! Angie please contact me as I would like to look into this further. I had a complaint from “Kit Kat” who had been standing naked other than a towel in the showers with the door open while she waited for the generators that ran the showers to be replenished with gasoline just mere feet away from where I had parked the Trike upon arrival and then stood talking to others and failed to notice. I pleaded “Old Age” and she was kind enough to do a re-enactment for me. From all accounts she has been doing her level best to be the life of the party. I wandered a bit and visited a lot and the day just flew by and we knew that we would have to leave then or we would be staying the night as the band started up and the whole place was just coming to life and it would soon be impossible for me or my companions to tear ourselves away. We said our goodbyes and headed for home. See you next year!
AOA – National Party
I rolled in the gate unobstructed as the Blue Gang had left shortly before my arrival. I wouldn’t be staying long but this has been a traditional stop each year for quite some time and I knew that there would be a cold 50 to wash down the
dust from the road. It was good to see old friends and shoot the shit a bit but was saddened to hear that the Club had just gotten back from a Club Run to London where they laid Holmes to rest alongside Willie and Mr. J. I had heard that Holmes had been sick but hadn’t seen him for years. I wandered a bit but having finished my 50 and shaken a bunch of hands climbed aboard the Trike to complete my journey home.
Brotherhood Bash
This event has long been one of my favourites and until this year can’t remember missing one. The venue for this great event has been moved a fair bit over the last bunch of years and there was another change this year. It was to be held this year at their property up in Markdale. I had been there once, years ago and had asked Gordo (Who I work with at Canada Cartage.) for directions. He muttered a bunch of stuff too fast for me to write down (Talk slow…I can’t hear fast!) but I figured it would all come back to me when I got close. So I headed out with a very vague idea of where I was going on a beautiful day. The Trike was running like a dream (The more I ride her the better I like her.) and the miles just drifted by like the warm summer air that caressed and soothed me as I rode through the scenic countryside on roads that seem to go on forever and on a day like this you wish that they did and you never had to stop. The beauty that is this Province, when combined with the heady fragrance that changes with each passing mile, switching from the sweet smell of Cedar groves and piney woods then to whatever crop was growing in the fields and even the strong, pungent odour of manure blends to form an almost intoxicating elixir. Add to that the great music coming from the Trikes big V Twin adding harmony to the tunes that were being produced my recently installed and much loved Hog Tunes System and you have the makings of

a sweet ride. This is my vision of what Heaven (If it exists!) should be. Not too much could spoil this trip, other than getting lost in the wilds of Markdale that is. I finally arrived at the four corners in beautiful downtown Markdale after what seemed like a twenty mile crawl through construction and turned right as instructed by Gordo and then I rode for what seemed like 300 miles without seeing anything that looked familiar. I hoped to run into another bike out on that stretch of road but no. I turned right and left on various roads for an hour or so hoping that something or someone would take me there before finally saying “Fuck It” it is now no longer a trip to a specific spot but just a ride to wherever I might end up and just started following whichever road came along and was now just an adventure! I settled into my not as comfortable seat as I would like (Another winter project.) and headed off eventually getting home just ahead of the heavy rains that were to have been happening all weekend. Sorry I couldn’t make it this year guys and gals but I tried and according to my rule book; if you try it counts for something. See you next year!
Rocky’s H-D – 60th Anniversary Party
I climbed aboard the trike and headed towards London under cloudy threatening skies contrary to the sunshine
THE RIDERS MAG -----PAGE 12
that the weather prognosticators had forecast. I refused to throw on my drover coat at the outset but made sure that it was packed. I started to hit a light rain around Mississauga but it cleared for a while and I continued on my way in shirt sleeves until Woodstock where it started into serious rain and I pulled in under a bridge and reluctantly dug out the rain gear and put it on. That action was apparently as close to a surrender that Mother Nature needed to see to declare a victory in our battle of wills and a few miles down the road it stopped raining and while it remained overcast the rest of my trip to London remained rain free. Threat of miserable weather is sometimes enough to keep some riders at home but not all, as the crowds at Rocky’s H-D were large and the lot was packed. I rolled in, parked, gathered up my Roving Reporter gear and headed in amongst the masses that had gathered to help Rocky’s H-D celebrate 60 years in business. There were lots of familiar, friendly faces and many a hug or handshake to be exchanged. There were lots of vendors along with lots of specials on Rocky’s H-D merchandise and lots of folks waiting to scoop them up. They had a great beer garden with some great food being served up by the Tillsonburg Kinsmen. They of course didn’t have 50 but the beer they served was cold and wet and went well with the great Roast beef on a bun that they claim is the best anywhere and after eating it I had no argument with their statement at all. It hit the spot after a long ride without a breakfast stop or even a coffee break. My boss is an asshole and doesn’t allow such frivolous shit as coffee stops when there is work to be done and miles to travel to get to it. I’d fire me but can’t find anyone else that would put up with my treatment! T h e bands were incredible and while I didn’t catch (Or more to the point forgot.) the name of the first band but they did an excellent job and played some great classic Rock and Roll tunes. They whet the crowds appetite for a fantastic AC/DC tribute band “Who made Who” who belted out great renditions of tunes that you would swear were being played by Angus Young and Company themselves and had the crowds hooting, howling and just loving it! There was also a great riding demonstration going on in the
parking lot that deservedly, gathered a lot of attention that showed great riding skills and technique as well as methods of single handed picking up full sized Harleys with ease, should you have the misfortune of dropping one, despite size and strength. It was borne out when a couple of small lady riders tried and succeeded in accomplishing the task. No one seemed more surprised than the ladies themselves. It was a good day and well worth the ride to London. Happy Anniversary Rocky’s and many more to come.
Kitchener H-D – Block Party
I headed to Kitchener partly because my crew from out that way were all busy with prior commitments and partly because it is a great Shop, and great supporters of The Mag and there are tons of great people out that way and I don’t get the opportunity to get out here near enough. The lot was full when I arrived and there was a steady stream of bikes coming and going throughout the afternoon. The Tillsonburg Kinsmen club were out again with their amazing mobile kitchen and still Cooking for a cure for Cystic Fibrosis and serving up the same great fare as they had done at Rocky’s event in London the previous weekend. They were still laying claim to serving the best Roast beef on a bun around and once again I took the challenge and after sitting down to devour said sandwich accompanied by a cold beer
(I said Beer not 50.) and once again I walked away unable to dispute their claim satisfied and not disappointed. There were lots of tremendous deals on all merchandise in the store and on bikes as well. One lucky lady whose husband had just bought her a brand new bike upon texting pictures of her on it to friends received a response from one who said that she looked happier than a homeless guy getting a blow job. I couldn’t dispute that statement either. I ran into another couple with a Road King taking off the stock seat and trying on a new seat that the store had in stock and stopped to talk. She told me in no uncertain terms that utterly hated the stock seat claiming it hurt her (She used different terminology.) female bits and was absolute torture. I waited until the new seat had been installed and they both were now comfortably planted aboard the bike
THE RIDERS MAG -----PAGE 13
and judging by the expression on her face especially but his as well upon seeing her reaction that this would be a wise purchase. I was interested as the stock seat on the Trike hurts my ass something fierce on long trips and I am looking to improve that. As in usual for this shop they are out to please their valued customers and provide some first class entertainment to round out a great afternoon. It was a great time and I enjoyed sitting around hearing some great tunes and seeing some great people and just mostly relaxing. It was great to see Sean Duncan and the warm friendly crew from Kitchener Harley-Davidson and their interaction with all of their loyal customers.
BOTB Poker Run 2015
I had other commitments earlier in the day and had two reps Terrible Tanya and Scott out to cover this event but I had to stop in for a while just for a visit. They had a great turn out and had just gotten back from the poker run and the games were just about to begin. I grabbed a cold 50 and wandered through to say Hi to the many friends who attend this event each year. Louise was doing a great job with the barbecue and the large beef and pork roasts were looking great and smelling even better. I hung around for a bit but just left my camera on the trike as things were well in hand by my excellent crew members although I did help Tanya as she was competing along with her Dad in a couple of events. The food was being served and an excellent band had just started to play as I made my exit leaving this wonderful bunch of people to party well into the night. It was great to see the revival of the bike games and the

great participation by attendees was fantastic to see and bodes well for future events.
Jabber Calendar Shoot
When my good friend and painter Jabber signed up for the Calendar feature I couldn’t have been happier. I’ve known him and his family for years and they have all been tremendously supportive of me and the Mag. Jabber has tremendous talent as an artist and has been
doing some amazing work for years now and he has done work for me on the Trike and I am in possession of two Julian Fantino urinals one that is mounted high on the wall of my office to discourage use and the other is an actual working urinal so that visitors to my shop can do to Julian what he has done to bikers and the people of this Province for years as he slithered his way up the ladder. I rounded up my models Briiana and Karen along with support crew Wendy and headed to Beaverton where we would do the shoot at Jabber’s Dad, Frank’s place. Frank has had some health issues lately and I was happy to be able to combine a visit with my ailing old friend, with work, which really isn’t work at all when you get to spend time with great people doing what you love to do.
East Coast
Well here we go again with the second entry from the East Coast. Rain seems to be in most weather reports, which is good for the garden and lawn, but hell on the riding factor. The “Boss” has found a use for my\old\lids, (actually it’s an old idea from the late Ken MacDonald that Isaw at his place several years ago) she turned them into flower pots which now adorn our garage and entrance to the house. Seeing that the torrential rain has been the cause of many ride cancellations and just about pissed off all of the riders and organizers, I thought this month I’ll ramble on about the Delivery Guy (me) and delivery routes as each session of this endeavour is actually a ride in itself. We start out alone but within a few K’s there’s usually 5 to 10 bikes joining us. Day I - The Bar Hop Run: The “Boss” & I load the “White couch” and head south on the 126. First stop is Club 126 in Rogersville, then Chez Freda’s & Deaker Boys. From there we head north stopping off at Papa Joes Gas Bar on our way to Miramichi. Once there it’s Jack’s Oasis, Mike’s Bar & Grill. Royal Canadian Legion (Br 10) and Stewart Harley then a short stop at Opry Music to complete the day’s deliveries and head home. (Distance:128 km) Day 2 - The Beer & Smoke Run: This day is usually done in the truck as the run takes me into Quebec so I can pick up my much needed “Export” (that is still unavailable in NB). I guess Molson isn’t responding to my email pleas, or has just decided to ignore me! So again, load up the truck and head out to Hwy. 8, to II and boogie into Cambelton, first stop is Club 1026 Bar and Grill, then across the border at Chaleur Bay into Que. Just at the end of the bridge we pull a quick left and head onto the “Rez”, drop another bundle of Mags at Jeromes Smoke Shop,(and of course pick up my beer and smokes). Then, back across the bridge and head east along the shoreline (my Blackberry has changed time zones twice in 3 k.m. because Que. is an hour behind us in N.B). This section of the trip is Amazing! Evey time you glance to the side it’s like a Picture Postcard. An hour and a half or so later we arrive in Bathurst. We B-line it over to Lou’s Pub and deliver a bundle and a half of Mags , half a

bundle for them and a bundle gets delivered from there by the bubbly bartender to a M-C. close by ( Sorry I can’t mention their name yet as I have yet to meet anyone from the Club to give me permission to print it (please contact me). From here it’s on the road again through the picturesque countryside back to home base.(distance: 480Km.) Day 3 - Head South Old Man: Again the “Couch” gets loaded up with mags and the “Boss” and I head south, mostly using various routes

Now for the Run in Blackville: It’s called “The Dungarvon Wooper Lounge Bike Rally, organized by Mr. Al Washburn. The weekend consisted of camping, biker games, live music and a burnout stand. IT WAS IN BOBCAYGEON... “I left my house that morning,it was (later than) a quarter after nine.” As I drove down the road, I found it ironic that I couldn’t get that song out of my head, the infamous Bobcaygeon, by the Tragically Hip, just one of those songs that puts a Canadian town on the map. Being that this was my particular destination that day, and that I had never driven there on my own before, I wasn’t sure what to expect when I got to the 5th Annual Bobcaygeon Bikefest.
I rolled into town, to find the canals and streets lined with bikes and vendors, which wound over the bridge and all the way down the main street. Thousands of tourists, townies, bikers and babes all wandering the downtown, which boasts a turning bridge, on the boat lock, that was the first to be built on the Trent-Severn Waterway in 1883. The cafes, restaurants and shops were all bustling with people, and there Seeing as I had some time to kill before I popped over to Lisle for the Legion Show & Shine, I asked myself “Self, what would top this morning off just right?”, my answer of course, “BACON”! , so I stopped in to one of my favorite little places for a jolt of caffeine, and a double side order of crispy, delicious strips, and I was right, everything IS better with bacon! Now with my eyes fully open, and my appetite satisfied, I was a courtyard full of awesome show and shine bikes that overflowed onto the street. Speaking of which, the Riders Mag trike sat loud and proud among its fellow bikes, but trying to find Critter was not so easy, especially since he got them replacement parts. I asked some of the usual suspects where I might be able to find him, or to point me to where they might have 50, but with no luck. Finally we did catch up over a few beers as the day was winding down, and I even got a short ride on the trike to my ride, now that’s ridin in style. All in all for a quaint little town, it sure is a triple threat, a great ride there and back, the beautiful waterfront scenery, and an awesome weekend event. MEANWHILE IN LISLE...

I along with many others, soon realized that it was mighty toasty to be standin in the sun, and quickly took shelter in any shady nook we could find. playing, and everyone was trying to keep cool. There was a 50/50 draw, silent auction, troop support wear, BBQ, and cold beverages on hand. CB and the Tottenham crew stopped by, and I met a few of the guys from the Ya-Hoo’s MC out of Angus, while I was harbored in the shade. After the awards were handed out, it started to clear out pretty quickly, most with the same idea of getting out on the road, and into the breeze, which is exactly what I did too, making hay while the sun shines, so to speak. LIFE’S A BEACH... I have been following the Wasage Beach Motorcycle Rally website and FB page with anticipation, and this year it came to fruition in midJuly. Finally something that Central Ontario can call its own, comparable to the Dover-esque atmosphere of Friday the 13th. That being said, let’s not forget the humble beginnings of that event, that have led to the spectacle it is today. A lot of time, planning, coordinating and effort went into pulling the new Beach Rally off, and it was a great first go, in my opinion. The weather was HOT to say the least, and thousands of bikes came, lining the beach, cruising the strip, filling the air with that unmistakable thunder. The music was rockin, from Friday night with Hells Bells, to Saturday night, with The Carpet Frogs, and bands playing throughout the day, they kept the tunes cranked. There were 300 riders for the 1st Annual Mayors Ride, which left early Saturday morning, and toured beautiful Simcoe County, returning in the afternoon, and Thurst T’s Cycles in Collingwood sponsored a Show & Shine in the middle of it all, with proceeds from both, going to benefit the Wounded Warriors Canada. The beach top bars were packed once again, overlooking it all, from one end to the other, with bikes as far as the eye could see, not to mention the vast ar-

Riders came from across the border, to across the country, along the Great Lakes and in-between, to the longest fresh water beach in the world, for this weekend full of riding, reminiscing and really great times. ABATE - THE FINAL FRONTIER 25... This year, I was actually able to ride to Durham, my steadfast Sporty loaded for bear, with my hockey bag o’stuff, strapped across the back fender. I arrived just in time to see

the starting nuptials of Chapter 2’s DJ and Brooke, at their biker wedding. This event was the kickoff to the weekend’s events, and their biggest turnout to date.
Although with a few minor bylaw setbacks sprung on them, the party never stopped. New Country bands entertained the crowds on Friday night and the wedding reception flowed back and forth from the Woodstock camp until the very, very late morning hours. Critter arrived on Saturday with a bunch in tow, and Sticker Chick was camped out for the weekend like I was. The bike rodeo and mud wrestling was a hit in the afternoon, and Rock bands played to the crowds at night. Sunday morning, a Chapter 13 service was held, remembering Dix Davies and Over 30 Years of others … GBNF. Later in the afternoon, after Winning Cases. I had packed to leave, a major storm came up, hammering the Frontier in two waves, and later, it was confirmed that a tornado touched down nearby. Luckily I had refuge, and wasn’t on the

Jordan Szoke trying out Flat Track for the first time The past weekend (Aug.15/16) was an exciting one for motorcycle racing. It was the CSBK Canadian Superbike Championship in Mosport as well as the CMRC Canadian Championship Motocross weekend in Walton. I was supposed to be joining in on the Walton TransCan deal with Flat Track Canada, hosting a flat track race at Canada’s largest motocross event. However the deal fell through and it didn’t work out this year unfortunately the outcome was out my control. Our crew was completely bummed about the news however we decided to attend both events in the same weekend and do a little promoting for our big race in London on Aug.22nd at the Western Fair District. I made some arrangements with multitime champion AMA GNC Champion Chris Carr, who is the current consultant for the big Superprestigio event in Las Vegas. We arranged for Jordan Szoke to be mentioned as the first official invitee to be a part of the Superprestigio of Americas. Big announcement as he awarded his tenth Canadian Superbike Championship. The Superprestigio of Americas event will be held in Las Vegas Saturday November 21st. Picture by: David Dudley

Docville Wild West Park July was full of adventures this summer, non-stop riding, great people, and more riding! I don’t always plan my trips, sometimes they just happen, and this mid-summer Docville bash did just kinda happened. It was a very sketchy forecast again with a hot and humid day that may or may not involve storms but hey, a forecast won’t stop me, it has to actually be storming to keep me home on a summer Saturday! So off I went into the wild, grey, overcast yonder, a bit “damp” at first so I sped up until the bad clouds were behind me, seems to work . . . sometimes! I arrived nice and dry and got the tent set up in a sprinkle of rain, nothing serious . . . yet! I hadn’t paid attention to the time so I ended up there much too early (that’s a first!). Doc was there and so was his grandson Luke, who decided to learn to play the drums. Watching Luke hit the drum, then realize it was him making the noise was priceless. He seemed to figure it out pretty quick and even had a few riffs going after a very short time. By the time the Little Drummer Boy had finished a few sets people started arriving and so did the rain. Many brought four wheels as the rain started to get quite serious. All of a sudden the skies let loose and it rained so hard you could barely see! People kept pointing and saying “whose tent it that?” and I just laughed, and laughed, and laughed, cuz if you’re really screwed, you might as well laugh! The tent actually survived with the blankets staying dry. There was a bit of a moat around the edges but doesn’t every castle have a moat? The evening festivities quickly turned to hilarity! Donna Graves got the tongue thing going and next thing you know there were tongues everywhere! I don’t know why it is so funny but it is! It was just fantastic to see everyone again and make some new friends too. We carried on late into the night then went for breakfast in the morning. By the time I left my sides were sore from giggling like a school girl all night and

half the morning! If you’re in the Newcastle area, be sure to stop by Docville, it’s always interesting. The barn is full of memorabilia from days gone by, every inch of every building seems to have something historical on the inside and the outside. The property is rented to all kinds of festivities from movie makers to weddings, it’s that cool! Tell Steve I said “HELLO”! Wasaga Beach Rally My next adventure was the first Wasaga Beach Bike Rally. It should be no big surprise that Wasaga and wrong way both start with a W! I didn’t realize the beach I was going to was at the east end of town so I went and caught the main drag at the west end of town. It was one of those extremely hot days and I was stuck in traffic for over an hour. The husband had my inner thighs so hot I thought he was going to leave marks, the goods were almost scorched! Damn that FLH pipe setup, don’t motorcycle designers actually ride anymore? Once I got to my campsite everything was wonderful immediately! I found the dancing girls and was over the moon to find Angie camped at the same spot as well! With all the great news I forgot all about my hot legs and started in on the beverages, treats, and concoctions! We met our biker neighbors Victor and Chachi inviting everyone to join us and by the time the sun set we were one big happy family! I was a bit late again so I did miss the bike show but we made it down to the band area for the Carpet Froggs show where we danced and danced til we couldn’t dance no more, then we boogied! I also managed to hand out an impressive amount of Rider’s Mag issues. It’s hard to explain how much fun it is to hang with the right people and just let loose and enjoy the hell outta everything!
Angie is one of those people and I hadn’t seen her in many years so it was truly a treat to hang out again. Angie and I met back in the mid 80’s at the Ride for Sight when we both had just started riding. We both had wee little offshore starter bikes but we rode those things everywhere. Sure was a great time once again, meeting up with old friends, making new friends, and hanging out with the dancing girls!!! ABATE Final Frontier The Final Frontier has faced many challenges since ABATE first bought the property. The challenge of building a road through a swamp, the challenge of building sheds and the main covered area, and of course the ongoing challenge of bylaws and one grumpy neighbor (most of the other neighbors attend the bash). So this year the noise bylaw “was amended” such that
bands had to be shut down at 11pm instead of 12pm all weekend. There was a drought so although Friday night was campfire friendly, Saturday morning we woke up to a complete fire ban across Grey/Bruce County which included cooking fires. Next thing you know on Sunday there was a wild storm bringing in pea soup sky which almost became a tornado! Tents were “moved” to new locations, awnings were ripped from campers, and some of the skinny people had to be tied down, but we all made it through! The property may have to be renamed “Ozland”. From the moment I stopped at the gate to when I left it was three days of nonstop hugs, love, and parteeeeeeeeeeeeeee like a rock star! What a blast! Seemed like everyone was there! Critter showed up so I got to go Cruisin with Critter and I must say, that was a ton of fun too! The best view of the bash was from on top of a motor home, you got a real feel for how huge this bash really was. While up there, something went silly and there was some more sudden partial nudity and next thing ya know I could see the crack of Al from up there! If you look really close, you can see it too! The pic should be on the Gallery Final Frontier photo album but you do have to zoom to see it! So much fun, it just didn’t stop! Next thing you know it was the mud wrestling. Sometime around then I decided that I would try to get some mammary pics as a public service and in the interest of The Rider’s Mag as the lack of boobies seemed to be a common complaint lately. My decision making process was already skewed so I “decided” the best
way to get the action started was to take one for the team . . . and so I did. Once the mud wrestling was over I attempted a boob shot, but they were shy so I “demonstrated” and tried to “encourage” the gals. They were tough but one caved! Then it was game on, off to find some more, and I did find more, cheaper by the dozen! Stay tuned, we may have enough for a winter Thanks for the Mammaries page! And also, there are a whole bunch of you out there that owe me $2, a beer, or some beads! Fantastic band lineup this year – wowsers! Friday night was a country band and I don’t normally like country but this was Southern Country Rock, and we danced our booties off! Saturday night was RIPPED, what a party band! And I must say I haven’t seen a tongue that long since
THE RIDERS MAG ----- PAGE 23
KISS! Sunday night was tornado night and although Saigon Pharmacy (a VERY tight blues band) did setup and attempt to play several times, the weather continued to be a problem so they played a song or two, got a few jolts of electricity, and had to give up in the interest of safety. It didn’t matter, there was not a noise bylaw, fire ban, or tornado that could possibly have dampened this party! The bash continued regardless!!! For the first time ever, I actually won the 50/50 draw! I kept some simply because I need the money to battle the many financial challenges in my little world. But I did give some away, $125 back to ABATE to the charity of their choice and $125 to the gal who broke her arm when she fell off the stage during the wet t-shirt. Truly hope she is doing okay, it was definitely a very nasty and painful break. Surgery was required and we all know how expensive life gets when you’re down and out. If you do know her, consider taking her over a pot of chili, helping her with household chores, laundry, groceries, etc. and just giving her a hand as she’s down one. I must also mention the John Deere diesel powered, all terrain motor home that showed up. This sweet young couple from the area that didn’t know anyone and were not bikers came to the bash and they were a blast all on their own! Their open concept motor home became a tailgate party and by Saturday afternoon people were bringing their own lawn chairs over to hang out with these people. It didn’t matter if you were a biker, a hiker, or a farmer, you were welcome at the Final Frontier! The dancers were all there including Dancing Barbie, Dancing Gooch, and Jo-Jo Dancer! We even had a disco dancing line going for one tune, not sure why they were playing disco music but hey, I can play any game as long as I know the rules! There are no words to explain the friendly atmosphere throughout all the ABATE bashes. Everyone is old friends, even complete strangers. I can’t thank all the friends and strangers enough for the kind words and encouragement that helps us all keep The Rider’s Mag going, and for all the drinks, beers, treats, concoctions, and various other “gifts” of elation, but I really do thank you! Monday came to quickly

and it was soon time to pack up my strings of love beads and head home. See you next year, same place, same time! Tiny’s ATV and Motorcycle Repair Bike Night I’ve partied with Tiny a few times now, in fact he was part of the group air mattress BJ at the Freedom Machine Motorcycle Show last month. When I heard he was having a Bike Night, I decided to try to make it. By the time I finished work and arrived, many had gone for a ride but a few were still hanging around the shop. It was a hot night, just perfect for an evening near the water.
We hung around and told lies around the shop for a bit, then headed to dinner at a local restaurant. Those who went on a wee ride were at the restaurant by then so there was more lies and stories to be told. I am guessing Tiny must have brought the appetizers because there were plates of food all over the table shortly after we arrived. Thanks for that Tiny! It was a great hanging out with another friendly crew for some Monday fun! Thurst T’s Cycle No Cell Run Thurst T’s No Cell Run was yet another adventure starting out with a sketchy weather forecast. I rode to Collingwood on dry/damp roads on a cold Saturday morning. I got a bit wet from road spray but was doing fairly well until I was almost there, then it came down! Even with the rain and cold there was still at least 100 bikes ready and roaring to go so I wrung myself out, registered, and headed out once the sky started to clear. Most left in a group and rode together but I decided to take my own route through the beautiful Beaver Valley. First
stop was at the Harley Blues Cafe in Scone. The ride wasn’t there when I arrived so I waited for a while but there was no sign of them. Turns out they made a wrong turn and went to the Barrhead Bar & Grill Markdale first. Busted a few of the staff on cell phones in Scone then carried on to
the Queen’s Bush in Hanover. There were many already at the Queen’s Bush and more pulling in so I stayed for a bit to chat and swap stories! They do have really great food there!!! Next I headed back to Collingwood as the card guy at Markdale had already left so I missed that stop. So back through the Beaver Valley I rode again to the party spot back at Days Gone By Farms. What a neat spot! The property must have 20 old heritage buildings on it setup like an old western town. Some of the buildings still housed old equipment! Very historic and beautiful spot, do stop by if you’re in the Collingwood area. The meal was really, really good! Corn was BBQ’d with husk on, very yummy! The band was great old blues rock and they rocked! Paul was telling stories and I don’t know what it is about Paul’s stories, but I love listening to them! Door prizes were a blast too. I think Trish and Wendy had a few sippy cups before heading to the dollar store for funky sunglasses, bubble makers, whoopee cushions, and more! Thurst T’s Cycle would like to thank all the staff and hosts at the various stops who worked together to pull off another great ride and I would like to thank Paul, Trish, and Wendy for a great, fun filled day! Eventually it was time to head home so I rode one more time through the Beaver Valley for a total of four times in one day. I’m not sure the beaver is use to that anymore buy hey, makes me feel young again! Smiley and Company Movie Nights You have to meet Mike and Linda

Smiley cuz it’s not possible for me to explain what generous AND knowledgeable people they are. It just can’t be put into words. They will cancel their own plans to keep someone on the road, they are that nice! They host regular movie nights at their shop every few weeks. I made it to two movie nights this month. One I watched the movie and the other one I just hung outside with Mike and the Mia (the furbaby) and talked shop. Please take a moment to like them on facebook so you are in the loop for events. Their facebook page is a great way to see for yourself how knowledgeable and adaptable they really are. If they need a different tool, they make the tool. They are bare bones bike builders! I would also like to mention that it you have over winter work to do on your bike be it big or small, you may want to visit them now to discuss options. They also provide great winter storage options with a heated shop. And I must tell you, they build some pretty fantastic machines which are often for sale, but you have to be quick cuz when they build a bike . . . not only is it quick, it also sells quickly! The rest of August and September are already chock full of more adventures of The King and I so do stay tuned! I do not want to get morbid but with all the recent motorcycle related accidents I do want to remind everyone including myself to ride safe! Be careful! Had a mini-van left turn right into me the other day. If I hadn’t anticipated stupidity I would have been in the passenger seat. The dude turned left directly into my path in the middle of nowhere. Please take care and anticipate stupidity so I can party with you all some more! See you soon!

Fighting for Your Rights Recently the O.C.C Executive received an odd request from a biker organization interested in membership. The demographics of their organization had changed and the new mandate was to remove the public appearance that their organization supported the politics of our confederation. It was requested, by the executive of this organization, that they be allowed to join as an anonymous member organization in our confederation and that any reference to their organization would not appear on the O.C.C. website, membership lists or in any O.C.C. publication. It appears that the majority of their current membership had decided that support of our confederation might create a stigma that their members were not prepared to endure. The executive of the O.C.C. firmly refused this request and notified the organization that the O.C.C is not a shadow confederation, that membership in the O.C.C. is public knowledge and that our member clubs display our patch with a pride that is equal to the pride and respect that is shared by our confederation in listing them as supporting our member clubs. This is a classic example of pandering to the presumptions of the establishment in order to advance self-interest. The decision to buy into the con gives confidence to our persecutors and further erodes the very foundations of our lifestyle. I have participated in this lifestyle for well over fifty years and, as such, am extremely versed in the rubbish that is laid at the feet of motorcycle clubs - but it is this type of sellout that exceeds the boundaries of tolerance. Allow me to illuminate on some of my observations garnered from past experiences. Clubbers are the first line of resistance in the fight to preserve our rights as motorcyclists. Far too bold a statement, Eh Ollie? Consider this; the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms is constantly being abused every time a patch holder is subjected to harassment via the issuance of a bogus traffic act violation. Clubbers challenge these impositions and are generally successful; with the resulting court decision benefiting all bikers. Clubbers are the core foundation of this lifestyle and, whether admitted or not by the riding public, are basically responsible for the popularity of motorcycling. The image of the non-conforming rebel has always been based upon the attitude of club riders. Every time a weekend warrior pulls on his leathers he is attempting to affect that same attitude. Hell, he is playing to that cool image as he poses for the civilians and pedestrians and
with Rooster
it is for that very moment that he has acquired the gear and cultivated the persona. When pressed by the establishment, these same individuals loudly proclaim there are significant differences between them and club riders. Oh yea, we may dress like them, talk like them, ride noisy machines like them, attend the same events as them and display the same attitudes as them but we are not anything like them. That line of reasoning suggests, to me, that they resemble transvestites in the women’s washroom . . . somehow similar but strangely different. The Ontario Confederation of Clubs is an organization formed to protect the rights of bikers. Our organization is managed by all the membership - with guidance provided by a duly elected executive. All members, individual or clubs, are proud of their association with the O.C.C. and the work being done by the membership. Personally, I am proud of my membership in the O.C.C. and it is my right, as a taxpayer and Canadian citizen, to belong to any advocacy, biker organization or club that I decide to support. Throughout my life, I have never experienced any stigma attached to either an affiliation with the O.C.C. or any club which I enjoyed full membership. I firmly believe that the stigma as referred by the abovementioned organization exists solely in the imagination of the individuals involved. Special ‘Thumbs up’ to the Atlantic Confederation of Clubs which is holding its first meeting in September. The movement is growing out of necessity! Hope everyone is enjoying a safe riding season. Personal Note: Took another stab at ridin’ the rock but had to abort in Moncton due to wet & chilly weather on NFLD which lasted for the two weeks that we would have been on the island. Retreated to QC and spent some quality time in Quebec City then off to Mont-Tremblant followed by Mont-Laurier. The weather was stellar and The Laurentians are magnificent. It’s hard to believe that yet another summer has slipped away, I did manage to rack up some mileage on my bikes before the weather turned to crap in August. Seemingly it was thunderstorms every couple of days all month long. I missed out on a lot of on the road articles this summer because of exactly that and a complete lack of available time, hmmmm. Well for the past few years we have started a tradition of doing a Toronto east feature bike shoot trip and this year due to a charitable event the last weekend of September that I just cannot miss (rain or shine) this year’s shoots will be first weekend of October beginning on Friday afternoon and finishing up hopefully close to home on the Sunday afternoon. I have already sent out emails to all you folks in the Halton, Peel, Toronto and east of Toronto areas, check your email if you’re one of those who does so infrequently, I am not much for phoning and I definitely shun face book, and other social media having tried twitter for a while but finding it was just too much work for too little gain. I have a decent supply of sportsters for a change but I am suffering from a shortage of vintage bikes with a special nod to Dave of Toronto who has provided us with at least 4 different vintage bikes including this month’s pan. I still want that WLC and we will probably be reaching out on that one next year as we try to do these Dave shoots every couple of years. I don’t think I have enough ladies on the list at this point to make it through the 5 issues that have lady features next year so ladies feel free to send me pics of your Harley and where you are located. I still plan to get a few shoots done locally this fall as I really need that pan on the mountain for next spring and at least one more lady shoot done for next

spring and a couple sportys in my local area as well. As you all know we head out southwest each spring and have a couple of shoots out that way already but if you are in the Windsor Essex area or the London Sarnia area we are heading out that way around late April to get your shoots done so if you have always wanted to be in the mag with your bike your girlfriend, wife, neighbor whatever send your pics to me and we will hook you up. Reach me at theridersmag@gmail.com I have the master list and the order we take the pictures and write the articles for Critter and Company. The point is if you send him stuff by social media or ask to be contacted by social media it won’t work cause I don’t go there, ok? A heads up that coming up this November is the last Friday the 13th of the year, I basically did not get any titty shirts to the ladies cause I ended up chasing senior around whose health is declining at an alarming rate, the March version I was away The point is I will be in Dover on Nov 12 and 13 with the ladies titty shirts, that I sponsored since no advertisers would step up and sponsor them, looking for my regular ladies and all other willing ladies who wanna show us their tits for a piece of history a custom dated ladies spaghetti top that says “I bared my boobs and all I got was this lousy shirt” of course all you gals who have supported us in the past know we have been doin ladies exclusives for more than a decade now. Well I will write a little more bout that in the November December issue but I have scheduled myself in for this event and I will be there looking for you. See ya out there on the road.

SHOP/BUILDER OF THE MONTH
Jabber has been obsessed with art as far back as he can remember. He had and still has an extensive comic book collection and started replicating the art from them and it became clear to all who knew him that he was destined to become an artist of some sort. He really had no specific type of art that he gravitated to or particular artist that he found to be inspirational as he found beauty in all art and all forms of art and it all fascinated him and he anxiously soaked it all in like a sponge. In High School, art was his main and perhaps, only focus and while he failed in all other subjects, he excelled in art. He did manage to graduate though. The fact that their Son had this obsession was abundantly clear to his free thinking, free spirit, parents Frank and Margaret who encouraged all of their children to follow their hearts and chase their dreams and rather than try to discourage his artistic efforts or push him into something else, they encouraged him. When his dad saw a flyer for an airbrush beginners course in Lindsay attached to a telephone pole back in 1996 he tore it down, brought it home for Jabber to see and then promptly enrolled his Son in the course, bought him his first airbrush, paints and compressor and just let him be, other than offer support and encouragement. The seed was firmly planted. He went to OCA to study art for a short period before heading out west to pursue a career as a professional skateboarder. The dreams of becoming a famous skateboarder were soon shattered along with many of his bones and he returned home, recuperated and turned back to his real love and inspiration, art! Still thirsting for knowledge, he enrolled in an Airbrush course in the United States that was sponsored by Airbrush Action Magazine and spent two years in Charlotte N.C. and then 1 year in Las Vegas learning his craft from the biggest

and best airbrush and pinstriping artists in the World. Jabber was a good student, learned much and developed his incredible talent. Airbrush Action Magazine did a feature on him and his airbrush portrait of Johnny Cash. Now he started painting for real, for friends and family and word soon spread about this brilliant young artist and his was in demand but Jabber soon found that it wasn’t just as easy as just calling yourself an artist and having all the right tools and talent that makes you a true artist and be able earn a living doing it. It takes perseverance, determination and patience, along with lots of practice and time. Finding out about all the pitfalls and overcoming them and developing new techniques through trial and error has smoothed out any rough edges he may have had. He has done many award winning paintjobs on numerous motorcycles over the years and his work has appeared in many major magazines and at many of the Biggest Motorcycle
Shows in the World. I took my Trikes body parts to him and he did an incredible job and it gets lots of favourable comments and he now has my Decker’s (Petoonia) parts in for clear coat and polishing and I have no doubt that I will be thrilled with them as well. Having had to juggle his fledgling art career with making a living and with a young family was hard and getting his studio up and running while working at a full time job was challenging, frustrating and at times infuriating. But he had just gotten it done and then they decided that they had outgrown their house in beautiful downtown Argyle put it up for sale and bought a great piece of property in Kirkfeild that would better suit their needs, both familywise and businesswise, for now and the future. He is now building a new, bigger and better shop/studio with a large professional paint booth that will allow him to do bigger projects and that will be ready to go soon. Along with that, he has a brand new professional website and is going to incorporate a mini art gallery into the shop as he isn’t just an airbrush artist and has some amazing paintings done in oil and other mediums as well. While he specializes in motorcycle art, he has few limitations as to what jobs he will tackle. He can work on cars and trucks and can do murals, true, lifelike portraits of both people and pets, has a great imagination and loves a challenge. He uses only the best paint and materials and takes great pride in his work always striving to make his next job event better than the last. Jabber has noticed a trend back to old style bobbers, vintage paintwork and pinstriping and he is ready for it and anything else you could want in the way of paint and is booking jobs for winter now. If you are thinking about painting your bike and have a theme in mind check him out. If you don’t have an exact theme in mind give him a call and he will flesh it out. He is that good! You won’t be disappointed.
Bohemian Rhapsody
Our run began in Bergen. Norway. The party began on the overnight ferry to Hertshals, which is the top tip of Denmark. We then rode the length of Denmark (450 kilometers) in heavy, cold rain with intermittent hail, south into Germany. We turned left at Hamburg to Berlin, rode over to Dresden and turned southeast into the Czech Republic. Czech is a beautiful country with exquisite architecture. It has progressed exponentially from its Communist days when it was one half of Czechoslovakia. I have a Czech friend here in Toronto. I complemented him on how beautiful his country was. His facial expression told me he thought the opposite. He hasn’t been there in a long time and remembers the way it was under Communist rule. I can relate to this as I had entered East Germany circa 19891990 a week after the Berlin wall began to be torn down. The pollution was horrible masking the blue sky with a gray pall. The grass struggled to survive. Now, the former East Germany is as beautiful, clean, and vibrant as its western counterpart. I guess it is the same with Czech and Slovakia.

night. The boys have booked Belgrade’s Hotel Prestige for all the bike packs to converge on for a night of brotherhood and frivolity. Bratislava is a gorgeous city set in rolling green hills rising from the plains. We do not have time to stop at the clubhouse. This is a mistake. We have hurt the Slovakian brothers feelings. We all know it is not good to hurt a biker’s feelings. We are very sensitive under our rough exteriors. Later, we meet the Slovakians in Greece and ask

We ride at a steady 140kph. It is a great day. Back in Bergen, the rain is worse and the temperature has dropped further. The mountain passes are closed with snow. We will take a ferry back from Germany or Denmark on our return trip. We have not decided yet as it will depend on weather...of course we are not going back for awhile. We leave for Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia on our way to Budapest Hungary in a smaller pack. Riding in big packs is exhilarating right up until a gas stop. I am skilled at getting to the front of the line but it matters little since one must wait for everyone behind. We ride south in Czech past Ostravia, into Slovakia, then onto Hungary. We are in Bratislava, Slovakia on our way to Budapest, Hungary to party the night. Then we leave Donny on his ride, a 2015 for for a big “Stop ‘n Go” party Road Glide in Belgrade, Serbia the next

forgiveness. We must promise to come back and spend time with them. This is the way in Europe. In Toronto, people are too busy. They like you but time is always an issue. In Europe, the priorities are different. The boys make time for you, the more the better. They want you to stay. Quality of life is more important than making money. We have two spots in Budapest. We picked one and arrived after dark to food and festivities. The GPS took us through downtown. Wow! Is all I have to say. Budapest is stunning. The architecture is unbelievable. Originally, Budapest was two separate cities; a hilly city, Buda on the west bank of the fabled Danube River and the flat plain city of Pest on the east side. The two cities merged into Budapest about 140 years ago. Budapest rivals Prague and Vienna as three of the most beautiful cities in Europe, if not the world. Tomorrow morning we push out for Begrade, Serbia. I do not drink liquor. I do not play well with those
around me when drinking the hard stuff. However, my Hungarian hosts would have hurt feelings if I did not drink their traditional shots with them. I have to stop hurting biker feelings. A Quebecois expression comes to mind, “ We either like you a lot or we hate you a lot. There is no middle ground”. I better start cooperating. This is a step beyond Canadian liquor so maybe I will be okay. They are all bigger than me anyway. So, this is what we drank at the Hungary Nomads clubhouse....fire water. I should have been drunk but the ambience soothed my brain. Either that or I just didn’t give a fuck!

Budapest on the Danube River at Night
We leave Hungary the next morning, riding south. We stop at what I miss-assume is the Serbia border control. The guards are ignorant and insulting. I am polite and compliant. They yell at me. I begin to feel like fighting. One of the boys tells me this is not a good idea. I know I will lose but I have a strong personality that does not lie down easily. If I do not understand they yell louder. They want my
ownership; I give it to them three times; they throw it down each time and start yelling again. I begin to get hostile. They can see my rage building. I try one more time. I forcefully unfold the ownership for him. We both know this is my last effort. The ownership is in Norwegian. He cannot read it, but neither can I. He pretends he can read Norwegian and finally gives me my stuff with a glare. I start to stare him down. One of the guys good naturedly drags me away. I am pissed. Fuck this place. Then we ride 100 yards and the same thing, a border control point. These guards are polite and friendly. This is Serbia. As it turns out, I was mad at the Hungarian border guards. The Serbs were fine. Hungary is a beautiful country, with hospitable people, and exquisite architecture. There is no border station to enter but they harass you leaving. Ex-communist country governments and authorities are fucked. At Serbia border control we meet some of my old pals from Moscow including DJ Alik Goch. Alik is world famous, moreso in Russia and Europe but the Americans are beginning to listen to his stuff. Alik was president for 17-years of the original 1%er club in Russia, the Cossacks MC. He is now a Moscow Prospect, living at the clubhouse. I will have a picture of Alik in the Russia party tent at the Big Party. He kept the party within the big party going nonstop. Alik is instantly recognizable by his sparkling all-silver teeth. We ride south to Novi Sad in Serbia then onto Belgrade for the “Stop’n Go” party. I never drank shooters before because people do not like me on them.
The boys from Moscow are accompanied by Russian youngblood from this vast country end-to-end who want to be with us. Russians are a tough, proud, and patriotic people. Fighting is a way of life for many with their variety of effective martial arts known in the west as Systema. Many also box. One of the boys from Moscow teaches their military special forces hand to hand combat and knife fighting. However, I am now a veteran and I am still a nice guy...in my opinion anyway. We are in a tight pack of 60 bikes with the Germans from Erfurt. The snake forms as it weaves melodically through Serbia. This is poetry in motion as we become ONE. Egil’s bike is making noise. We pull over. The compensating sprocket is loose. The Erfurt boss barks out to the Prospects. Egil’s bike is quickly loaded into the chase truck. I smile. Egil knows I will post a picture of him riding bitch behind me on my bike. Egil smiles as he knows this. A spot is
cleared for him to sit and he is handed a beer. He has avoided the Don Razzing. We ride into the Hotel Prestige in Belgrade without further incident. Hundreds of the guys are already here from every country imaginable. More roll in by the minute, all night long. There is no room for cars as the bikes jam into the parking areas and soon spill onto the lawns. Egil asks me when I think we should fix his bike. I say now. He says he wants to party and we will do it in the morning. I reluctantly agree. I know we are not going to feel like it next morning. I don’t want to stereotype, but the Germans have a welldeserved reputation for planning and efficiency. Across the parking lot’s maze of bikes, I see the Germans effortlessly unloading Egil’s motorcycle and putting it on a bike stand from the crash truck. Then out comes a full set of three tiers of mechanics tools that any dealer mechanic would be proud of. I smile and point this out to Egil commenting that I think we are fixing his bike right now. We walk over. Egil and I bend over to the motorcycle primary case to help. “Nein!” We are in the brother’s way as he expertly disassembles the bike’s primary. He barks out while working. He is not really barking but German is such a harsh, guttural language that it sounds that way. A Prospect brings Egil a beer. This action was politely telling us to stay out of the way. I watch how fast and expert he is, meticulously fixing the issue. He cleans parts and Loctite’s them so the problem will not reoccur. The job is done. He finally checks the fluids like any good mechanic. “Nein!” He barks out again, and a full oil change appears from the crash truck. He changes the oil without asking. He finishes by cleaning off his fingerprints on the chromium parts. Egil goes to give him some money. “Nein!” The German is mildly insulted. He slaps Egil on the back and once again softly says Nein. He did it for brotherhood. This type of experience makes one feel very good about being Who WE Are. This is a recurring theme. A few days earlier...

1200 TWINNEY DR. UNIT 10 NEWMARKET ONTARIO L3Y 9E4 As we were leaving the Berlin clubhouse, Egil left 300 Euros on the bar. After all, they had wined and dined us and put eight of us up for the night. We had a great homemade German breakfast. A German gruffly said “Nein!” He handed back Egil his money explaining that guests do not pay. Egil replied that they must have a donation jar for brothers that have fallen on hard times. We take care of our own, came the terse reply. Egil then said “Give it to their families.” The German said that they also take care of them. He stuffed the 300 Euros into Egil’s hand and walked away. Egil felt guilty. He wanted to leave a donation. When no one was looking he left about 150 Euros on the bar. We left and soon forgot about this seemingly small thing. Fast forward to one week later; we are at the Big Party in Greece. There are thousands of the boys and bikes at the party site. It was impossible to find people in the maze of bars, party tents, band shells, food tents and the beaches surrounding us on three sides of our very own peninsula extending into the Aegean Sea, A brother suddenly emerges out of the crowd and heads straight for us. He is one of the boys from Berlin. He is frustrated and a little angry. “Nein!” ….as he once again, stuffs the Euros into Egil’s hand. “Guests do not pay! Please come back to visit us but you must leave your money at home.” Back to Serbia... Life is good. The party last night was fun. Serbia is a good place. It is hot. There is 1000 kilometers left to the run site in Corfu through the rest of Serbia, Macedonia and Greece. The boys from Denmark, Poland, Slovakia, Switzerland, Russia and many other countries are leaving in a huge pack. We wait behind. We will catch up and ride the snake as and when we feel like it. Soon we arrive at the Macedonian border. I have my own insurance from Canada. It is also a requirement to have Norwegian bike insurance. Therefore, I have double insurance on my Road Glide.
THE RIDERS MAG ---- PAGE 36
Macedonia border extortion and the legalized rip. However, the Macedonia border people cannot read Norwegian, nor do they want to. They demand to see my insurance. I show them. No, it must be on a blue card! I have to leave my bike and go to another building to buy insurance. There is a long line up. No credit cards are allowed for the purchase. I have to pay 50 euros cash for Macedonian insurance to ride through their country. I will be in Macedonia for a half day. The proof of insurance is on a blue card.
Riding Macedonia
We ride fast for a hundred kilometers as there is war brewing here near the border. Albanian separatists have attacked a few weeks before. Serbia has pledged to help Macedonia in any impending conflict. Serbian Special Forces are bivouacked near the border. Otherwise, riding Macedonia is a beautiful experience with blue skies and rolling mountainous terrain. European roadways are well designed, meant for high speed, and meticulously maintained. Potholes are a rarity. Macedonian roads are not really bad but seem that way after what we have become used to. The first pothole is shocking... just like a bad road in Canada. As we ride the stunning countryside, we notice people walking along the side of the highway in the middle of nowhere. I think it odd. In Canada, we are insulated from many of the cruelties of life in other places. There are men, women, and lots of children. They use handmade walking sticks and each carries as much as one can. We are close to Syria. These are Syrian refugees escaping the horrors of war. They are walking one thousand kilometers for the hope of a better life and safety in Central Europe. They have no money, no food, no passports, and cannot speak the languages of Europe. They will be denied entry to some countries and will have to sneak through the fields at night. We have no real complaints in Canada if comparing to the refugee plight. We roll into Greece. We ride 100 kilometers inside Greece at dusk. We find a hotel in a small town on what I think is the sea but it turns out to be a wide river. There we hook up with the boys from Estonia and Tromsoe, Norway. Next issue, I will describe our ride through Greece and the Big Party near the fabled island of Corfu in the island dotted Aegean Sea. Donny Petersen www.donnypetersen.com

Sometimes a month is just so many days but other times a month can be an adventure and I think I finally get that because the last 30 days or so have been a crazy but fun time and have served to remind me about what I love about the lifestyle I live in and all the great people like all of you I get to meet. Since my last column I had the opportunity to take part in the 3rd Annual Ride for Autism in Ottawa and while the morning weather sucked big time by continually threatening to rain there were enough brave riders who decided to take a chance and come out, not only support a worthy cause but enjoy a well planned ride and end it up with a band that knew how to blast out the blues and lots of food too. A bikers “hat trick” I guess. Once again I would like to mention to everyone that I am seeing more riding clubs and groups that are coming out and supporting different rides and events. Because of that I would like to ask all of you to take note of these groups and in turn try to get out and support any causes or events that those groups sponsor.

held up in Sault Ste Marie so if there had been a prize for longest distance he would have won hands down. Once the riders returned they were greeted by good music and even more important, good food most of which was served up by Mike Bossio of the TCB and chairman of S.O.A.R. Society of Ottawa Area Riders. Another event that was a must for me was taking part in the Ruffians MC Local 1855 Roof Top Patio Party they held at the East Side Mario’s in Bells Corners raising funds for teens mental health in memory of Jamie Hubley, a 15 year old boy who tragically took his own life after years of being bullied for being gay. Since that time Jamie’s parents Allan & Wendy have worked steadily at seeing to it that other teenagers for whatever reason do not become so desperate that they turn to suicide and so the Ruffians MC host this event to help raise money for the 6th floor ward at CHEO for young people suffering from severe depression. The rooftop was ideal for the event and it even
At the Autism Ride groups such as the Wheel Brothers, The Defenders and my good friends from the Ruffians MC took part in the ride. I also want to express much appreciation to my good friend, Tom Alain aka Thor and his lovely lady Nathalie because they and some of their fellow members of B.A.C.A. Bikers Against Child Abuse arrived later after the ride itself had already departed because they had previously attended an event in the east end for the family of a local rider who had been seriously injured in an accident. After attending that event they road across the city to the other side of Ottawa and paid for the ride but had somewhere else they had to be. While I don’t want to embarrass Tom or his Buddies, some of them purchased 50/50 tickets and left them behind with the instructions that if any of the tickets won the prize it would be donated to the Ride itself. Now that’s a class act! Most likely the rider who came the farthest to take part is in fact one of the founders of the Algoma Ride for Autism

gave the riders taking part the opportunity to watch a police officer in a marked cruiser drive up and down the parking lot running plates of the motorcycles but sadly I didn’t see him running any automobile plates. So even when we do good we still are being unduly singled out. It’s ironic that both the Hubley’s were in attendance for the evening to thank everyone for taking part, Mr. Hubley is also an Ottawa City Councillor. The evening saw many familiar faces, such as Squid aka Mark Cooper a good friend & Brother, Flipper aka Marie-France & Eric of the Burn Out Boys, members of the Bikers Church, Black Pistons MC and Don Bleeker & Gary Goudie of the Soldiers for Jesus. The door prizes included a nice big shiny barbeque which was won by a members of the Simple Men MC from Snake River and who knows maybe we will see it being put to good use at the Snake River Rodeo on Sept 5th. As I like to point out the Ottawa Valley possesses some of the finest biking roads one can find, not to mention some of the most hospitable people including all the members of the Simple Men MC. So why not come by The Riders Mag E.Ontario Booth at The Snake River Rodeo and say hello. This past month also saw the 1st Annual A.R.M. (Association of Recovering Motorcyclists) Rodeo & Roast which took place outside the village of Merrickville which has become a very familiar destination spot for riders. “Mean” Gene Amell & Blair “Mad Dog” Gardiner invited the Riders Mag and The Celtic Brotherhood to participate and help what they hope will be just the beginning of many A.R.M. events in the future. Blair is well known in the Ottawa area as the singer in a very popular group known as the Indelible Shameless Blues Band and so Blair used his vocals skills to call out the rodeo events. I think everybody enjoyed themselves because it was a hot lazy afternoon as everyone took the opportunity to gather in groups and catch up after the rodeo was over and before the big feed. Once things settled down I got to spend some time with a very good friend Kerry Anderson along with his better half Joanne, many of you may remember Kerry created and ran the Ottawa Valley Motorcycle & Tattoo Show in Petawawa years ago and was sorry when Kerry stopped it. But you can ask anyone who has tried their hand at running an event it can suck up a lot of your life’s energy so I understand why he decided to take a break. After we ate it was decided that perhaps we should head home before the nods kicked in. Much thanks to the A.R.M. members for their hospitality and I think all our crew look forward to being part of the 2nd

Annual Rodeo & Roast. I always like to keep my columns upbeat but in the last few issues I have mentioned some area riders that some of you may know who have been killed. I am not sure about other communities in Ontario but here in the east we have lost way too many riders this year. While I can’t mention them all I know we all send our condolences & respect out to their loved ones. Recently we lost another well know rider in the Ottawa community, Peter North also known as Sinister Chopper. While over the years I have found myself scolding Peter for his trademark exits from motorcycle events or worse, my house, when he would come over and life being life I guess after a while I got to believe that Peter was charmed but I guess we forget that saying we should never go faster than our guardian angel can fly. A couple of weeks ago Peter was severely injured in an accident & succumbed to his injuries. In reflecting on the Peter I knew I wrote on his obituary wall my favorite Hunter S Thompson quote.”Life Should Not Be A Journey To The Grave With The Intention Of Arriving Safely In A Pretty And Well Preserved Body But Rather To Skid In Broadside In A Cloud Of Smoke, Thoroughly Used Up, Totally Worn Out And Loudly Proclaiming Wow! What A Ride!” Peter will be missed but he will never be forgotten! See you in Valhalla! Once again all the folks at Big Daddy’s Cowpaddy Rodeo & Roast put on a top notch event and I have heard nothing but good things from all the folks who attended and this year Greg & Sue worked very hard at making whatever changes they had to in order to improve Big Daddy’s. Their actual rodeo just keeps getting better and better. They have one of the all time best layouts for a rodeo to take place in. The flatland or mesa where it all happens is 10’ or so lower than the area where all the other activities take place such as feeding the riders and the entertainment in the evening. If you have not been to Big Daddy’s yet well maybe 2016 would be the year to make it happen! The following week is the Cow Paddy Boys Rodeo & Roast which this year celebrated their 25th annual event. The weather was a monster and temps by about noon were in the high 30’s and approaching the 40’s with the humidex, folks were more than glad to find a comfortable spot to park their butts at least until the rodeo started to take place. Once everyone started participating in the games and in between the events the MC provided lots of entertainment by calling out to the ladies to participate in all sorts of challenges that went from some of them battling it out over drinking a bottle of wine to what was one of the best potato in the straw events I have seen in years. With the rules being that each lady had to have her butt on the
seat in order to claim the potato after she retrieved it out of the straw or some other girl’s hands it was a hoot and I suppose the only thing that would have made it better on that hot scorching day is if it had taken place in a field full of jello.
The Tire Race was a big hit but I think I felt more sorry for the ladies riding those tires in the intense heat with all the dirt hitting them than I did about the possibility the tires might flip or the rope might break. I think everybody was looking forward to taking a break when it was time for the pig roast supper and people were hunting out bits of shade to sit back and get mellow before the evening’s entertainment began with music by the band, South Bound. Much thanks to Steve & Gail, for a good time and I look forward to seeing the both of them in the near future. The most recent event that I took part in was with some of The Celtic Brotherhood down in Belleville in a bike/car show held at the Denny’s Restaurant. The guys that own this Denny’s are the same ones who have the Denny’s South Keys in Ottawa where we hold both our Spring/Fall Bike/ Car Classic. The TCB thought they might go down and put on a demonstration of their Busted Bucket Challenge where folks are challenged to try riding a “Chopper” Tricycle while wearing special eyewear that simulates some of the issues of acquiring a head concussion. Once they got the first rider up to give it a try it didn’t take much more encouragement for the others to try and they had a great time while learning more about some of the signs of trauma to the head. One of those who was up to the challenge was a friend, Harold Gagnon who is the owner of Make It Roar Motorcycle Shop in Trenton and Harold not only advertises in our mag but he also is a distributor of The Riders Mag. So if you are in that area of Belleville/Trenton/Quinte why not stop by Harold’s and grab a copy. I got to chat with a number of riders that are in the military and learned a few more club names and met Derek Andrew who among other events he promotes is involved in the Quinte Ride for Paws. You know how I feel about animals, especially dogs so next year I hope to get involved in that one myself. We had a lot of fun that afternoon and I know all our crew were a little sad that we had to head back, but Sunday nights on the 401 can be a bitch so the more distance we covered with a bit
of daylight, the better. I would like to also mention that we have 2 New spot in Kingston now carrying The Mag. You can pick it up at our friends at Unique Cycle on Sydenham Rd. or at MotoSport Plus on Dalton Ave. As always I want to remind all of you that if you have an event or ride coming up or if you are a business that deals with either motorcycles or the people who ride them, you might like to advertise or be a distributor for “The Riders Mag” .. This month we bring you another from the awesome collection of vintage bikes of Dave, back in the day when we started shooting bikes by category Dave stepped up and said that in addition to having daily riders for both he and his wife he had a pan and an ambition to build an impressive collection of Harley-Davidson Motorcycles. Over the years as we struggled to find vintage bikes Dave would fire me off an email and tell me what he had added
THE RIDERS MAG ----- PAGE 40
to his collection and offered to feature his various bikes in the mag whenever we were up for another vintage bike. Along the way he acquired an all original Canadian Military WLC from a local regiment, Dave knew someone that had acquired it straight out of the museum when they decided to sell it and he snapped it up when his opportunity presented
itself. As you can see from the pics this beautiful and very original 1950 Panhead is not that military bike that I have been after him to feature in the mag for about the past 6 years or so but we have had the pleasure of some of the most original or painfully creative vintage rides that I have had the pleasure of seeing in my decades of involvement with the mag. Dave says that all those years ago when he stated that goal to amass a collection he did not realize that it would turn into an outright obsession with his rides. Even at work while he’s on calls with clients he often puts the caller on speaker and surfs eBay in his office looking for that one item that he needs to complete his latest bike. He has a number of bikes in the works at all times and he will not say that he is working on any particular bike until he has collected every single piece that he needs to make whatever he is working on as original as it can be. On average it takes about 3 years to collect the parts to build his average Harley and that with all the years he has spent his knowledge at this point is fairly expansive. He has met a number of people who prove instrumental in either providing certain parts or expertise in making his
latest dream become a reality. You have to be patient to find the right parts at the right price knowing that there’s a lot of really overpriced product out there some of it not even authentic but he says that he runs a search every morning looking for new listings to see what’s been added to the site. Always hoping to find that one nagging piece that he needs to move forward with yet another project. Dave is very particular about originality but he says that ride ability is just as important to him as originality, let me explain. Dave told me that Martin out at Martins Custom Motorcycles came up with a plate that allowed him to install a disc brake onto the front of the bike using all the original holes from the drum brake. Although the brake handle looks like the cable from the old drum, the master cylinder is stashed out of sight. He says the purists get antsy about stuff like that but he argues that if he piled the bike into the back of a car due to the factory original “hope and pray front drum brake” how original would it be then? Another ride ability feature of the bike is the electric start with the starter nicely concealed by the police oil tank which has been modified to hide not only the starter but also the 12 volt battery and the starter button is also not in plain view. With such a collection and every one of them riders, he wants to take them for a ride and doesn’t want to spend a lot of time kicking, trying to get gas to the carb to
get it running, again all of this stuff can be removed to put it back to stock. All the tins are 49 or 50 only, but because his lovely wife Lisa (seen here posing on the bike as she has for many over the years) likes to get on any bike in the collection and go for a ride so he replaced the original 50 tank with gate hand shift and foot clutch, with a 1952 tank to go with the standard foot shift and hand clutch arrangement. On one of his surfing adventures he found the really cool hand tooled leather saddle with the name “Bone Daddy” on it and he told me that when he bought the seat from this guy, which was an original Harley saddle, he got a deal because he promised the guy (who must have put a ton of hours into it) that if it ever appeared in a mag that he would send him pictures of it. He also has an original seat for the bike if he ever wanted to take that one off and ride with the factory style saddle. He was pointing out the odometer had just 2 miles on it saying that he had run into a guy out in southwestern Ontario who rebuilt factory speedometers to original specs and this ride was equipped with a brand new used unit. I am sure since we shot this bike last fall that Dave has put a few more miles on it since then but I doubt too many, as he has such a collection to choose from and of course they both have late model rides for day to day. Well we went in expecting to get that Canadian Military bike and came out with yet another beautiful panhead from Dave’s collection and this one is just nicely finished as well. He has another stroker pan that’s almost done and he’s got a 48 in the works as well. I promise you will see more of Dave’s rides and of course the lovely Lisa, till next time keep em coming Dave.

Bikers
A number of years ago a Biker came to me and told me he had a dream of me traveling the roads, being a friend to brothers and sister on two wheels and sharing what God can do for you and me. The past years have been just that. When the Riders Mag was very young I was asked to write an article from a Pastors view. I tell you it has been quite a ride, always thinking about what I am going to write about the next month. But when the time came ideas or letters gave me the subject on which I would write upon. There were a few times it got lost in my busy schedule but my readers were right there to tell me so and wanted reassurance the article was going to continue. I thank all the friends I have made over the years, whether old or new, at Donut Shops, or dealers, and even events. Over the years we have received letters thanking me for my words and had certainly helped in their life at the time when needed. This article sounds like a retirement, well maybe it is. My cohort Pastor Ken has already written a few articles for me when my computer has been down and I have been spending time praying about this and everything seems to come to this so God can move. You see I don’t want to hold God back from what he will do or can do. I received a letter with a Question “ What can God do for me?” If God can create the world in 6 days and put human life on the earth well my Question is “Do you really think there is nothing he can’t do?” Ok here are 11 things he can do for you but you are going to have get a Bible and look these up 1. He Can Comfort You. (John 14:1-2; Isaiah 57:18) 2. He Can Give You Confidence (1 John 5:14) 3. I can do everything through him who gives me the strength.(Philippians 4:12-13) 4. “The Lord is my helper ( Hebrews 13:6) 5. He Can Take Your Worries Away (Psalm 55:22) 6. Gives us encouragement (2 Thessalonians 2:16-17) 7. He cares for those who trust in him. (Nahum 1:7) 8. He Can Give You Eternal Life (John 10:27-28) 9. He has given us new birth
Church
into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead (1 Peter 1:3-5) 10. He provides Eternal life (John 3:36) 11. He will do whatever His Son asks for ( John 14:12-14; Deuteronomy 31:8; Hebrews 4:15-16) Now it’s your turn to do your part. If you do your part you will realize how big a man He really is!
They say the make-up artist here can make you look 20 years YOUNGER! That’s just what the Old Lady Needs! Maybe for her Birthday?

Hello fellow inmates...
by Dangerous Donnie from Durham
Well as I write this one I must report the August weather has been top drawer. My buddy Ricky rode to New Brunswick/ Nova Scotia for shitz and giggles on his own and never got wet or for that matter tired. I was asked to accompany this hard assed rider but I know better, the first day he clocked 1526km’s (my ass is good for about 600km and then it’s beer thirty for this old bastige). Here’s Ricky in FLA. for those that know him.... Santa in Ft. Myers. CHOSEN FEW MC’s RIDE FOR ISAAC This annual event raises money for Camp Bucko which is set up for Kids with burn injuries. Tragically a few years back young Isaac lost his life at 4 years old and in his memory and honour they call upon us to come out and support the day, each year it is very well attended. More than 200 made the run up to Omemee and back to Chosen Few’s clubhouse in Pickering. A very humid hot day, cold beverages were in great demand by the parched riders after the ride. The food was catered by a local restaurant and live music by Zepolgy (a Led Zepplin tribute band). Billy the pres is very well known and respected so the call went out to the MC’s and many attended...from A to Z..... 81/Redline/Red Devils/ Rangers/Renegades/Aces and Eights/Longhorns/Redneck Rebels and many good friends and family. Saw my friend Fogger there and Donnie P came out as well. SUMMER SIZZLER (SIMCOE CHAPTER) After a steamy ride thru the city leaving the Rangers MC’s downtown CH and with Road Captain Walter doing his best to navigate around the horrendous traffic on the 400, finally we scooted up Hwy 27 arrived to be greeted by a road side stop a few 100 yards from the driveway. The welcoming committee was made up of Beu/Opp, anyhow it was expected. All paper work checked and rechecked, we waited for around ½ hour in the hot sun. A younger rookie had an issue with my
SEER helmet, took it away as he said there was no padding in it. I casually mentioned, to no avail, that probably 80% of his comrades in blue all over the States have worn this same brand of lid for 30 years or more. After awhile an older BEU guy came back with it and said yes this a good brain bucket. Shit it should be, my 3 kids pony’d up over 3 bills for it as a Christmas present for their old dad ! (my old SEER is at least 15 years old so it was time for a new one) Anyhow the thirsty and parched crew made it thru w/o issues and proceeded to do what we do. Bikes on Bond Well it was big success for the Scwha, huge turn-out, it came off smoothly. They are planning for bigger and better

next year. It does the riding community a real treat to have free events like this. People will try out the local restaurant, buy stuff from the stores/vendors etc. so it’s a win-win for all. BIG D’S Final Ride I am sure that almost all of you reading heard that tragically on their run up north Big D of Downtown lost his life in a collision with a pick up truck. The word travelled fast around the community, very sad. Big D would always hello and shake a hand when we would visit the Downtown CH. He was well respected and loved by his Club and all his friends. There were approximately 400 bikes that rode in his honour and last ride thru Scarborough. Members from 81 Chapters across Canada all made their way to Toronto for the “Big D”. Representatives from every MC in the GTA and further out attended. You may find the video on Facebook where it took more than 10 minutes just to view the bikes leaving the Cemetery, considering it only takes few seconds for a bike to roar by the camera. A huge send off for this big man. He stood tall and always had huge smile on his face. GBNF (in his case “Gone but Never forgotten”) by his family/club brothers and many friends. Kirkfield Invasion (Kawartha Charity Riders) Aug 15 my club bro Happy and I wondered which way we should point our front wheels, and I remembered Rick Gibson’s invite to his annual event up in Kirkfield. After nice ride up there on the back roads of Durham we hit the local Lions Club about 4ish, ran into the boys from 81 Oshawa with their booth and all the new support gear. Some cool stuff. Bumped into the Brotherhood MC guys too. As usual unprepared to stay the nite (poor planning) as I could tell the party was just starting to warm up, but I had to head back to the city. Rick Gibson was doing bang up job as the caller for bike games and the Show and Shine had some tasty bikes to gawk at. Some nice looking wimens too! As you may recognize me, I met a “biker” chick, but its seems Gibson gets to have all the luck....LOL. For those that have missed this weekend in the past I suggest you make it a point to go, pretty much an old school event, perhaps better advertising may be a big help in making this event attract more people to it and give it the status and attendance it deserves. (posted at the gate...”if nudity offends you hit the road or something like that” ). So keep putting the miles on. It is not like we have infinite number days to do what we do...support the events...visit a club house our three...look after your tires and brakes and keep an eye out for those oblivious car driving loogans. Cya when I cya..
One for the road …..with Lil Red
Few things can compare to the feeling of having a long day just for riding, then cresting a hill to see a beautiful sunset. You could having a shitty day yet still have some ass that decides to make it worse. Well this type of ride will save you from busting their nose and having an arrest record. With a beautiful weekend coming, we ventured out to the Renegades weekend party. With the potential of a beautiful sunset occurring during this ride, it was our much needed escape. Riding along the backroads from our 705 area through to Omemee, it was just as I had expected, gorgeous! Perhaps a little toasty in the sun and those leather seats can get warm on the ass, but nothing some sunblock and a whole lotta water couldn’t remedy. So after arriving in Omemee, we pulled into the enormous field were we were greeted at the gate by Bear. Being a Newbie to a real Biker event, his friendly handshake helped my jitters of having to drive through that grassy field fade a bit. As Mike and I parked our rides, we noticed the bar, the show n shine entries, the fire pit, the tents and the RVs. That’s right....it’s an all weekend thing, so camping is involved. Sounds like fun. And from Bear’s description of the party and it going ‘til 5 AM, and it probably was! Shaking off the jitters, we wandered over to drool at the bikes for the show n shine. And located right beside these beautiful pieces of metal and leather, was the swag tent. T-shirts, tank tops, even underwear…all adorned with ‘Support your local Renegade’ emblazoned on them. Of course, I now wanted one because these were a great group of guys and gals and who wouldn’t want to support them. After spotting Krazzy (AKA…the Master of Ceremonies) trying to take inventory, I began snooping to see which shirt I was gonna buy, and figured that Mike was doing the same. After exchanging pleasantries, Krazzy walked us over to the bar to meet a few of the other Renegades taking in 1-800-310-1389 the event. Hollywood brought us a beer. Krazzy gave us a quick breakdown 2822 HOWARD AVE. VE. As I was listening and looking around, a specific word caught my attention….wait…What? A wienie bite event?? I’ve gotta see this! Silently, the show bikes were beckoning me. (613) 392-8433 www.makeitroar.com over from this one, was a sleek blue and silver chopper that I couldn’t take my eyes off of. It’s one of those bikes you just keep going back to for ‘just one more look’. Not surprising, most of the bikes were Harleys but not you’re standard, off the assembly line models but custom, individualized and personalized works of art. The games were about to begin. First up, testing your balance. This is the Plank Ride. The purpose of this game is to keep your ride in a straight line riding a length of a hose. I wasn’t sure how the field would factor into this little test of coordination, but it was fun to watch. After a few boys took their turns, some repeatedly, Rooster took the title.…..and as it appears later on, it was his first of many. Again being a New I needed some explanation on the next event. Called Pick up Sticks, the object of this delightful slugfest of possibilities is the guy will ride his bike in a circle with a woman on the back. In the centre of this circle lies a pile of hay. The women have to find the ‘sticks’, which happens to be pieces of rope, buried in said pile of hay. Now, the entertaining part is, that although these women all know one another, once Krazzy yells stop, the women propel themselves off from their rides and dive headlong into that pile of the hay, looking for sticks and the competition is on. Everyone is fair game, as are the legs or other appendages of opponents that have found a stick are. In one round, a cow paddy was picked up! She should have gotten extra credit for picking THAT up! And if you happen to find a ‘stick’, you’d better run. I saw one woman pick up a rope and another just take her legs out from under her to steal her rope. This is a legal move! It became a wrestling match! Where’s the ref?? I’m getting a picture of that!!! Hey Krazzy, the only thing missing is the mud and the bikinis!! Hey, is that Carol with the Event Medic shirt on? Well I’ll be damned. I’ll say this, you do anything to need a medic and she’ll take care of you, but I’m betting she’d probably beat your ass for getting yourself in the position to NEED a medic and then having the nerve to even ask for one in the first place! One event that I thought Rooster and his lovely significant other were going to take without any contenders, was the Tire Toss until Sandy and Carol jumped on a ride at the last minute and took a run at it!!! Rooster took it again, but
THE RIDERS MAG ----- PAGE 46
it was quite cool that these two women gave the men a lesson in competition. Next is the Slow Race….aww hell no! I’d drop my bike for sure and then they’d laugh at me for not being able to pick it up! In the end, Rooster and Hippy seemed to have this one, having tied after three runs. These two boys seemed to be in every game! Everywhere I turned, you would see Bear or Krazzy with a group of guys, and I’d be snapping pictures. They wanted you to have a good time, but the respect within these clubs was overwhelmingly evident and expected. The Brethren MC was in attendance, The Chosen Few MC made an appearance (And also won for most represented by a Club). The Iron Dragons MC showed, as well as The Brothers Keepers Veterans MC. The Phantom Horsemen and Redneck Rebels were also having some fun, (and having met these groups previously at the Biker’s Church Show ‘n Shine, I was accepted by them and made to feel welcome.) Finally, time to call for the hardware (at least, the winner of the Show ‘n Shine). And wouldn’t you know it! That little piece of beauty with the red pin stripe and the skull leather seat won! Nice! While they were presenting other trophies, I couldn’t help but notice the behemoth piles of lumber and it looked to me that they’re gunning for one hell of a bonfire! Having been short on time (we’d been here close to 4 hours) we had to take off for a previously arranged concert. I had already switched my t-shirt to a Renegades tank top, and we said goodbye to the group. I was gonna miss that wienie event….damn! (P.S… .I’m waiting to see if the mud idea makes it into next year’s Pick up Sticks event! lol) We try to hit as many charity rides as we can. After all, it’s a ride. And we’re always up for a ride. We recently found
a local ride, sort of a sister to the Ride for Dad. The 1st Annual Six One 3 Ride 4 Mom. This benefits the Quinte Hospice and the Kingston Cancer Care unit. Being their 1st year, there was a modest group of about 50-60 riders which is still good for a first time with little in the way of advertising. The ride took us along some nice backroads through Springbrook and Campbellford. A police escort through the town was provided which kept us all together and helped us beat the lights. Once the ride ended, they offered up some catered food, a table of prizes, a band and the opportunity to catch up with the friendly folks who organized the event Here’s hoping with next year’s event, with a bit more advertising, they can beat their attendance for a well-worthy cause.

Ladies and their Harleys
This month’s feature Lady is Kathy from Windsor, she’s been around for a few years and is involved in the Essex County riders and their various charitable endeavours in the area. She also did some advertising with the mag back in the day to promote her group’s bike night events which they did to support several direct action charities in the area. Kathy and her group do good work in the area looking for the neediest, saying that they initially started supporting the animal shelter until they got provincial funding then they supported underprivileged children from low income families in the area and finally they worked with the downtown mission donating to help with both their food bank and the kitchen for the homeless and unemployed serving hot meals.

Surprisingly she is an administrator at a local funeral home, of course I had to ask how do you get a job like that is there a school you go to or something? The response I got was as surprising as her career. She had just graduated with a degree in accounting and was looking for employment, she had taken a part time job working for an auto parts store and was driving a delivery truck. One of the directors at the downtown mission was a funeral director and he asked Kathy if she might be interested in being a funeral attendant. Kathy was quite sure that this was not the job for her and was very apprehensive but the funeral director was persuasive and felt she had the proper
character for the position so she went in for the interview and was hired. She said that she was surprised at how well things went at the job adding to her income working part time at the auto parts store and part time at the funeral home as an attendant. Over time people left administrative positions and she was offered the job. Eventually she became the funeral homes top administrator was able to leave the auto parts firm now having a full time job. She had been riding a Big V-twin metric bike named Alice. I had to ask why and her explanation was simple, that’s what they told me her name was when I bought her and since she was already named Alice it seemed inappropriate to change her name so I stayed with it. She had always wanted to get to a touring bike but wasn’t set on a Harley as she was on a budget and wasn’t sure if she could afford one on her budget so she kept Alice and rode around the Ontario area hitting all the usual spots, Friday the 13th in Port Dover, local overnight parties, her own cruise nights and a few local poker runs. Kathy explained that the Essex County riders was not a membership organization but rather was just a board of directors who sought to do good work in the area as mentioned above, Kathy was the president for a number of years her good friend Mark Wolfe was her vice president and her
brother was the treasurer. Mark had a number of bikes including a V-Rod with the Union Jack painted on it and he did a lot of riding with Cheyenne who is another local whom we have featured before and is well known for his iron butt rides. These guys had done a number of rides together and when Mark got his Street Glide they did a ride to Tombstone AZ. I can tell you it’s a cool spot as I have been there, but I didn’t make the trip by bike, although I have ridden extensively in the States. Apparently Mark needed a knee replacement and had a variety of complications from the surgery including a stroke. As his health spiralled downhill he had to miss out on some iron butt rides with his buddies, when he took a turn for the worse he offered his bike to Kathy. She says she was taken aback by his generosity, and humanity saying that he made her dreams come true as she never dreamed that she would be able to own a Harley-Davidson motorcycle but to own a limited edition 105th anniversary ride with a 105 cubic inch engine and a 6 speed transmission was more than she had ever hoped for. But Mark was very particular about his bike and was also particular who it would go to when it became clear that he would not be able to ride again. Since he had worked closely with Kathy through the Essex County riders he was content to know that someone who truly loved and would care for the bike would have it, he was happy.
Kathy says that she bought the bike in late 2013 and when we did the shoot this past spring she was on her second season riding. Now that she had her touring bike she has made a trip to Sandusky Ohio this past summer with some friends to see the Cannonball Run bikes come through town as she also really loves vintage bikes. This summer a lot of her friends are going to Sturgis but she says that she’s taking a trip on her own over Erie PA way and plans to ride all the way around Lake Erie, spanning Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New York. There’s an event in Erie she plans to attend which is connected to the “Roar on the Shore” and the local Erie dealer has some day rides through the covered bridges in the area, sounds like a scenic ride. Because she has to take vacations from Wednesday to Wednesday so as not to get behind on her work at the funeral home and only having two weeks off this year she thinks that Sturgis might work for her next year as she has been given an assistant to help with the paperwork and she can have 3 weeks vacation next year. When I asked her what she might like to change on the bike she said that it was perfect just the way it was, the true dual Rinehart’s, the detachable tour pack, tunes, two tone paint and air ride seat. Mark cared for his bike and wanted someone who would continue to care for it and Kathy says “I love it and wanna keep it just the way it is.”, But she did name it Bella since all her friends wanted to know the name of her new bike. They just kept saying “Nice bike.”

Here we go! The season in full swing and the biker events are a plenty! I apologize with due respect to those that I missed or for the short time spent at some, as I am but a simple man trying to do the job of many. Northern Ontario is a vast region and to cover it in great detail is near impossible. That is why when inquiries are made for event coordinators to provide me with particulars in order to facilitate my tasks of contributing the details and the info doesn’t reach me, then unfortunately it doesn’t get transmitted to our readership. To quote the commander from last month’s edition: “We are all volunteers and we do what we do on our own dime and our own time and we do our best!” I don’t think I could have summed it up any better, but I would like to add, “We do it for the love of the Rider’s Mag and the biker community.” I would like to make note that due to all the content and events that happened in the past month, some coverage of these events will be in the next issue of the Mag. This doesn’t mean that they are less important, it simply means that I want to do a great job with all the events and due to printing restrictions, it is best to split them into 2 editions with

great coverage than to have mediocre content all into one publication. Just remember, if I was there covering the event, some content will be published in regards to it! Thank for understanding. On another note, some may think my photography skills could use improving, and you’re right. You will notice a difference in the months to come, I guarantee that for sure. I had the pleasure of meeting up with “Frosty” from “Capture Moments by Julie” who happens to be not only a professional photographer but also rides a beautiful Harley Softail, with decades of experience in riding. At this point in the game, I figure any advice I get in regards to my photography proficiency can only improve the results so putting my pride aside, I pay attention to the guidance coming from this skillful individual that specializes in newborns as well as family photo sessions. Having her own studio as well as a passion for her work, she relaxes by going out on her scoot, that happens to have all the bells and whistles as well as being all chromed out, number 50 of a limited 150 with custom factory paint. I’m appreciative that she takes the time to show me from the proper use of the camera equipment to the proper positioning of the subject in conjunction with the light provided. Which made me realized that I knew not much except point and shoot when it came to taking pictures. Aside from her passion for photography on still shots, she also does Lady’s Boudoir sessions on or off motorcycles. If you’re looking for that special photographer that will capture the great moments in your life and want expert results, check out her work on Facebook at “Capture Moments by Julie” or follow her blog at www.capturedmoments-blog.com as well as her website at www.capturedmomentssudbury.com to book your memorable photography session. I personally thank you Frosty for all the pointers that you have provided me and should we meet up again and you see other pointers I could use, I will certainly welcome all the advice you care to share! Check out the video from the Bull Powertrain Run that I reported on last month on YouTube at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLFkiN2KyCE Ride Manitoulin: Numbers might have been down for this year’s 5th Annual Ride Manitoulin but one thing for certain was Roger’s moral and great spirit throughout sure brought a smile on everyone’s faces. The constant smiling face of this year’s coordinator certainly brightened up the gloomy skies and dried up the steady mist that dampened the start of this year’s event. Needless to say that I took advantage of my time there to get a massage that felt awesome. What a great job of loosening those muscles she does. This seems to be a growing trend of bike shows and rallies as I recall last winter at the International Motorcycle Show in Toronto where they had two chairs set up with massage therapist and they were also kept busy without any time off during the event. Laura had even brought samples of a rubefacient solution to help sore muscles to which she was more than happy to share with people. I hope you’ll be back next year for the whole weekend, we would certainly love to experience your great massages again. Manitoulin Island is a Mystical place to visit with scenic bike tours as well as a variety of other events and things to do, there’s never a dull moment. From great eats (Island Fish & Chips) to great feats (Cup & Saucer Hiking Trail), Manitoulin should definitely be on your list of ride schedule. What better time to attend than on the Ride Manitoulin Rally weekend! With almost as many passengers as riders attending this year’s event, I can assure you that there was something for everyone during this relaxing camping weekend that included breathtaking scenery even if you didn’t head off the fairgrounds as the trip there and back is one of the best in the province. I particularly liked the tall tales of events from years gone by being told at the beer garden which was manned and supported by the local Lion’s Club as they have in previous years. Great job ladies and gents! They not only served you refreshments with a smile but when time permitted, they fascinated you with stories to keep you entertained… As far as live entertainment goes, I find it always a pleasure to be entertained by Johnny Williams Trio as well as another great local band called Blackwater featuring JoPo. These local musicians and singers are outstanding, either playing at a large venue like Ride Manitoulin or playing at local bars and clubs. They will have you tapping your toes and singing along no matter what type of music that you prefer. Thanks guys for an outstanding performance at the Rally. Cannon Ball Poker Run: Manitoulin Island seems to be the ideal area for motorcycle runs and so it should be especially when putting on a run for a great cause. This was the case for the Ted Culgin Cannon Ball Poker Run. The purpose of this awesome fundraiser is to help Ted back on the road with a wheel kit and reverse for his ride, due to a medical misfortune. Randy from the local Bacchus M/C with the help of Al and Wade, put on an awe-inspiring event that they can all be proud of. Alongside the silent auction there was a great BBQ as well as live entertainment. What was distinct about this event was that “Every wheel was welcome… 2, 3, 4 or more!”. The rally was strongly supported by friends and family as well as people who just wanted to help a fellow biker get back on his ride. Speaking of helping out, should you want to do your part to help out in this great cause, you can send your donations to BMO#8985-535 or contact Al at 705-282-1118 or Wade at 705-968-0599. All donations, no matter of denomination is greatly appreciated. Ted and his followers are loyal supporters and readers of the Rider’s Mag on a monthly basis and it was great to see familiar faces here from past events. There were as many non-riders as riders, with a count of over 50 bikes. Showing again that the biker community in Northern Ontario supports

many worthy causes. The best way to describe this affair in just a few words, would be “A great cause for a great guy!” Thanks for inviting the Rider’s Mag so we could share your story. The Rock Harley Davidson “ROCKFEST” One of Sudbury’s Greatest Biker Bashes has to be The Rock’s “ROCKFEST” put on by our local Harley-Davidson dealer and the local radio station Kick 91.7FM. All in support of the charity “Kicks for Kids”. The day was filled with a multitude of activities that surpass a lot of other events such as a Motorcycle Scavenger Hunt, a Dice Roll for a chance to win a Harley Street 750, a sidewalk sale as well as Demo Rides. I made certain to take advantage of the bike wash by the beautiful “Rockettes” as this weekend being full of events to cover had me booked solid without the time to even think of cleaning the bike. These beautiful ladies did an amazing job and then even took the time to strike a pose with my clean scoot. It’s always a pleasure to have a beautiful young lady sit on my bike… especially if they clean it for me first! An awesome variety of live music was on hand from morning to closing, from country to classic rock and everything in between. A little something for everyone. Greg the dealership owner went all out providing a pig and corn roast for all and he managed to get Leanne and her two sidekicks Geneva and Sue from Simply Creative Catering to prepare the grub. One thing I can say for sure is that bikers up north like to eat great food and that was proven here this weekend. Awesome job as always ladies! We thank you!! Another great item was the dunk tank where even Greg volunteered to get dunked!! What a great sport! A fun time was had by all those who attended and the weather held out and a good mix of sun and cloud to make the day just perfect. I even had the opportunity to climb on the roof of the building to take some shots of the entire lot and all the activities going on. I took as many photographs as I could and not all of them could be printed in this issue of The Mag but they are posted on The Rider’s Mag website. So be sure to log onto our website at www. theridersmag.com under Gallery to see them all. This was a big league event that provided the opportunity to meet up with old friends and make new ones. Thank you to the Rock Harley Davidson’s Greg and his staff for putting on such an exceptional event. I’ll be looking forward to the next one! You guys “ROCK’!! I would like to thank my readers and followers for the positive feedback that I have been receiving in the past few months, fueling up my passion to keep promoting the lifestyle up here in Northern Ontario! People from the biker community are the Best! It is also great to see your smiling faces and hearing your interesting stories when we deliver the Mags to the distribution points. The network of people that makes up this community is just awesome. We all play a part and no matter how big or small, it all counts! Cheers to you all and Thank You! In closing this month, I found a quote that applies to a lot of circumstances that I’ve ran into personally as well as many of you did I’m sure. “Riding a bike doesn’t make me a bad person, just like going to church doesn’t make you a good person!”

Levels Of Stress You pick up a hitchhiker... A beautiful girl. Suddenly she faints inside your car and you take her to the hospital. Now that’s stressful. But at the hospital, they say she is pregnant and congratulate you that you’re going to be a father. You say that you are not the father, but the girl says you are. This is getting very stressful! You request a DNA test to prove that you are not the father. After the tests are completed, The doctor says the test shows you’re infertile, And probably have been since birth. You’re extremely stressed but relieved. On your way back home, you think about your 5 kids at home. While Peter was sunbathing naked at the beach at Noosa For the sake of civility, and to keep it from getting sunburned, he had a hat over his private parts. A woman walks past and says, snickering, “If you were a gentleman you’d lift your hat.” He raised an eyebrow and replied, “If you were better looking it would lift itself.” Do you know what happened 165 years ago this summer....September 9, 1850? California became a state! The people had no electricity, the state had no money and almost everyone spoke Spanish. There were gunfights in the streets. So basically NOTHING has changed except back then the women had real tits and the men didn’t hold hands. And that, my friends, is your history lesson for today! ** 2015 STELLA AWARDS ** For those unfamiliar with these awards, they are named after 81-year-old Stella Liebeck who spilled hot coffee on herself and successfully sued the McDonald’s in New Mexico, where she purchased coffee. You remember, she took the lid off the coffee and put it between her knees while she was driving. Who would ever think one could get burned doing that, right? That’s right; these are awards for the most outlandish lawsuits and verdicts in the U.S. You know, the kinds of cases that make you scratch your head. So keep your head scratcher handy. Here are the Stella’s for 2015 !!!! * SEVENTH PLACE * Kathleen Robertson of Austin, Texas was awarded $80,000 by a jury of her peers after breaking her ankle tripping over a toddler who was running inside a furniture store. The store owners were understandably surprised by the verdict, considering the running toddler was her own. Start scratching! * SIXTH PLACE * Carl Truman, 19, of Los Angeles, California won $74,000 plus medical expenses when his neighbour ran over his hand with a Honda Accord. Truman apparently didn’t notice there was someone at the wheel of the car when he was trying to steal his neighbour’s hubcaps. Scratch some more... * FIFTH PLACE * Terrence Dickson, of Bristol, Pennsylvania, who was leaving a house he had just burglarized by way of the garage. Unfortunately for Dickson, the automatic garage door opener malfunctioned and he could not get the garage door to open.

Forced to sit for eight, count ‘em, EIGHT days and survive on a case of Pepsi and a large bag of dry dog food, he sued the homeowner’s insurance company claiming undue mental Anguish. Amazingly, the jury said the insurance company must pay Dickson $500,000 for his anguish. We should all have this kind of anguish. Keep scratching. There are more... A Chinese guy goes into a Jewishowned establishment to buy black bras, size 38. The Jewish store keeper, known for his skills as a businessman, says that black bras are rare and that he is finding it very difficult to buy them from his suppliers. Therefore he has to charge $50.00 for them. The Chinese guy buys 25 pairs. He returns a few days later and this time orders 50. The Jewish owner tells him that they have become even harder to get and charges him $60.00 each. The Chinese guy returns a month
