Hog Town 1st Anniversary / Open House Another wonderful day in the ever expanding Cri er Country and this me my travels were taking me to the great li le Town of Lucan where there is a great motorcycle Shop by the name of Hog Town that is run by some really great people by the names of Teresa and Mike.
I was heading there to help them celebrate the 1st Anniversary of their business and cover their Open House. It was a great day for a ride and now with my new du es with The Mag keeping me in my F150 “The Black Bitch” more than I get to ride Petoonia, I look forward to ge ng her out on the highway and stretching her out whenever I can and I was enjoying this ride. The skies were clear and the weather was warming up quickly as Petoonia and I rolled merrily along. She was running like a dream and just gobbling up the miles like a starving person at a smorgasbord and I was enjoying every minute of it. I rolled into the parking lot in front of the great looking shop located right on Main St. in the heart of beau ful downtown Lucan and found a place to park, armed myself with my camera shed whatever extra clothing I had on as it was really ge ng warm and all indica ons were that it would be ge ng a lot warmer yet. So now, stripped down for ac on, my trusty Nikon fully charged with an empty memory card I cast off my Publisher/Editor persona and I was ready for another busy day as just plain Critter, Roving Reporter.
I was a bit early and they were s ll in set up mode and Teresa and Mike were everywhere as were the rest of the crew that were made up of staff, friends, family and volunteers. There were lots of other early arrivals and they were milling around the store and property. They were doing this up right with a large tent to the right of the building where there were rows of long tables to give the large crowds that would be soon be coming a shady place to sit and enjoy the great burgers and hotdogs that were coming off the barbecues or to keep an eye on the bevy pre y girls doing the charity bike wash or both. Folks out this way mul task very well. I wandered inside and was spo ed by Mike who promptly came over to say hi then was promptly called away to do more prep work before the crowds really started to appear. I was impressed with the store and the quan ty and quality of the merchandise that was on display and the prices were great as well. There was plenty for me to check out in there from bikes to chrome to clothing and helmets and even checked out the great shop area as well where they were hard at work finishing off

Hog Town 1st Anniversary / Open House a bike before the fes vi es got underway. It is an interes ng shop with all kinds of whimsical and interesting stuff everywhere I looked. As you might expect with a name like Hog Town there were definitely a lot of pigs of all shapes, sizes, colours all lending themselves to the Hog Town theme that was prevalent throughout on shelves, walls, counters and any spot where they obviously thought needed a touch of Hog. There was also a large bulle n board covered with posters and cards and such announcing events and such that were happening not just locally but from all over. I checked out the large array of framed stuff that adorned the walls and found not only the history of the Store but the historical facts concerning the

Town and Community. There were vendors and displays set up out in front of the store selling various items from leather goods to raffle ckets, a huge selec on of Hog Town merchandise and a cute li le Pug dog named Igor who is a bit of a celebrity as he was in a movie with Gordon Pinsent and was selling shirts and stuff with his image on them promo ng his celebrity and pushing for a rise to even more fame and fortune. Hogtunes were set up out there as well demonstra ng their fine sound equipment. There was a constant roar as motorcycles began to arrive at a quickening pace and the lot and store was now full with bikes and people. The Western Cheerleaders were now a fully func oning cleaning machine and the quality of their work was only surpassed by their beauty and they were the focus of much a en on of many riders and their cameras.
Hog Town 1st Anniversary / Open House down from Hog Town to just get out of the heat for a bit and maybe try my luck at finding a cold 50! Fat chance you say? “G o l d m i n e ! ” says I. I just had to men on it. A great ride I managed to get a couple of shots myself. It’s my job with great weathdamn it! er, a great des na on, great people, great food, great music and the prospect of a great ride home! Let me sum up the day for you GREAT!!!!!! I said my goodbyes and thanked Teresa and Mike for their hospitality and mounted up and se led into Petoonia’s plush saddle for what turned out to be a fantas c ride home. S e e you next y e a r and for years to come! They had The Geoff Masse Band booked and they did an excellent job of entertaining the crowd with some great rendi ons of some good old classic rock and roll tunes. BikerTV/VON Canada 1st Annual Poker Run by Manon Kellman
th
st
Today is June 8 and also Biker TV/Von’s 1 annual poker run. The clouds have taken over the blue skies and the temperature is a li le fresh. But we had planned on going and the weather condi ons would not make us change our minds. The registra on was taking place at Dukes Harley-Davidson in Chatham between 11 and 12, hence we had to leave early from Guelph. We le the house at 8:00 a.m. and went to pick up Coralie a co-op student from France who will be working with me, transla ng from English to French, un l the end of July. This is her first motorcycle ride and what a ride she had that day…a li le over 600 km! We arrived at Dukes at approximately 10:45 a.m. and the weather here was a lot more promising that what we had in Guelph. I was not scheduled to write an ar cle on this event, but things changed once we arrived; Tim was there, but had to leave to help a friend out and asked me if I would be willing to write about the event. Unfortunately, I was not fast enough in pu ng pen to paper and missed the cut-off date for the July issue. Sorry Cri er… It was great to see our good friends Tom, Heather,
THE RIDERS MAG -----PAGE 10
Angel and so many others we hadn’t seen in a while. The motorcycles really started to roll-in at 11:00 and the turnout was just amazing for such an uncertain day (weather wise). The poker run was well marked with signs guiding us at every turn. My only comment, they should be more colorful especially for someone like me that sees the signs when they are prac cally in my face! And just my luck, I ended up leading a li le group of us and naturally missed the sign…BUT, I new I had seen something and stopped a few minutes down the road where it was safe for all of us to stop. I asked if anyone had seen the sign and the answer was no, they had all been relying on me! We did make our way safe and sound to our des na on via another route (thanks to a new leader) and even managed to get there before my husband. Grant you, he had been wai ng for us at the corner I missed… The poker run was approximately 185 km long; we had a total of 4 poker card stops star ng with Dukes, the Dog House, Robinson Motorcycle and Bayside Brewing. A total of 121 motorcycles showed up for the event, all of whom helped raise a total of $4,100.00 with all the proceeds being donated to VON ChathamKent. Upon our return to Dukes, the group Three

Quarter Stone was there to entertain us, we had hamburgers with pop/water and the announcement of the best poker run hand. Our very good friend, kept saying he was going to be the winner because of his name Ralph von Estorff… the VON was the clue. AND yes, he did win - but for the first me in all the poker runs I have a ended, there was TWO winners with the same hand. As a result, they had to draw and the first one pulling out the Ace was the winner. Naturally Ralph won pulling the ace with the first card! The grand prize consisted of a night at the Retro Suites located in Chatham in the “Easy Rider Suite” along with a Tomahawk diner for two at the restaurant, a BikerTV DVD and a cer ficate sta ng 1st prize winner. With all the commo on in our li le group, I unfortunately did not get the second place winners name nor the prize he received...I am sincerely sorry for this. Here is something Tom Mann wishes to share with everyone: - When most said BikerTV wasn’t possible, Pops said, “Stand tall. Get to work. Believe!” When officials told us we couldn’t make TV because of the old days, Pops said, “Right is Might! Live right and get to work!” BikerTV’s biggest supporter since DAY 1, has been my
now 84 year old Dad Bob aka Pops. Thick. Thin. Bad. Good. Ups. Downs. It hasn’t been a simple path. Not a biker, but known and respected by all. Even in the dark biker days past, he never stopped believing in me. Always accepted the calls. No sympathy, but faith. Four years ago, a"er my bike crash, then recently single at 50, who was there, my Dad. Next to him many VON nurses. Dad is now volunteer Chairman of The Chatham-Kent VON. Bikers. The elderly, kids, pallia#ve care: Key services. They fiscally struggle. I finally get a chance to help my Dad. BikerTV is going to support Pops 200%. We’re going to videotape a big TV Special! Dukes HD and RM Car Restora#ons, Puppys. Three Quarter Stone and more too. Raise some $. Have some fun. Come out for the ride. Bike, Car, Truck. Pop by and check out Dukes/RM Vintage Bike Collec#on. More info to follow. Sincere thanks and respect. Tom Everyone wishes to say a sincere thank you to all the volunteers, the numerous sponsors (United Way ChathamKen, The Dog House, Bayside Brewing, Dukes Harley-Davidson, Robinson Motorcycle, Advanced Welding Techniques Inc., Chatham-Kent and RM Auto Restora ons); hopefully I did not miss anyone, if I did, be assured that you are also included in this. where the hell did it go? Cri ers been asking for an on the road ou a me but I have been so busy with life that there hasn’t been me to reflect on my travels and frankly I haven’t been to too many events this summer so there’s not much to write about that’s relevant. re red I was so busy I don’t know how I ever found me to work” but I know it to be true now and despite not ge ng out too much I have been filling in my me with the mul tude of tasks that relate to my family and my personal health. We have managed a couple trips to the lake, not nearly as many as I would like as I do love boa ng, it is in my blood just as biking is but it’s hard to find me to just go to the lake but when those weekends arrive that are not working out for the boat there’s always the golf course, another sport that I’ve played avidly in another life and I have been trying to get a round in whenever possible as not only do I enjoy it but it’s good for my health and stress levels. So I am planning to get out to a few Niagara events and do some riding and s ll try to squeeze some other stuff into my summer but when I look over my feature bike list and the shoots that I have on file some a en on is needed to get a good inventory of shoots on file. I am planning a trip east of Toronto and have a number of applicants who I’ve just contacted and although ge ng there this summer is looking more and more like a long shot I will make it in September. I also have a few to chase down in the Brampton and north of there that I’m gonna try to get to this fall but what I’m sorely lacking as I o en am is men’s sportsters, we will make our annual trip to the southwestern Ontario area in the early spring as we do every year in late April and I do have a couple of bikes out that way but when we do this swing we usually like to get between 6 and 8 bikes so if you are in the Tri-City area, London, or Windsor and all points in between I invite you to email me a pic of your bike including your loca on, contact info including at least one phone number although I prefer email best but, I know from experience phones are essen al. I can be reached at theridersmag@gmail.com For all you local folks in the Hamilton and Niagara area we have a very small number of bikes on the list and since we are down that way frequently we are always looking to set up some shoots out that way so please don’t be shy send me an email and get onto the list and we will get you taken care of. Just remember we classify our bikes as Sportster (any era), Evo/Twin Cam, Shovel, Vintage (includes anything older than a shovel) and of course ladies we are always on the lookout for lady riders on their Harleys and we don’t care whether you ride a big twin, sportster, or a trike, as long as it’s a Harley we are good to go, oh yeah I can’t forget those special construc on bikes, anything heavily customized with American v-twin power fits that bill. We are out there on the road taking care of the mags readers and telling their stories now for 15 years and con nue to love it so get your pics in and we will be in contact to arrange shoots….. So we’ll see you out there on the road.

Rocky’s H-D 110th Anniversary Party This was a spectacular morning and I was up and about early ge ng stuff done and making sure that I’d go en everything together and headed down to my buddy Bronson’s shop to pick up Petoonia who had picked up a sheet metal screw just long enough to damage the tube on Friday evening and Bronson had go en up real early and got her all fixed up so I’d have her to ride today. She was all done and ready to roll so I transferred my stuff and hit the road. It was a great Ride to London under bright blue sunny skies and temperatures on the rise and Petoonia was running great. We rolled into Rocky’s to find the place a beehive of ac vity with staff and volunteers running every which way get ng things set up. I found a spot to park then wandered off to check the
place out. The enormous showroom was already packed with people and a full complement of friendly staffers were on the job looking a er them.
Back outside the bike wash girls were set up and ready to go so I brought Petoonia over and gave her a special treat. She was a challenge for them as she was extra filthy but these

Rocky’s H-D 110th Anniversary Party fine looking ladies were up to the task and had her shining like a new penny in no me. Things were really star ng to happen now. The large lot was now crammed with motorcycles with more coming in all the me and the crowds in the store, showrooms and the grounds had swelled considerably and it was clear that this crew was going to be worn out by days end. Back outside it was the same thing people everywhere and there was plenty to see and do for everyone. They even had one of those huge inflatable castles for the smaller kids to play in. An Ice cream truck was doing a large business selling cold treats to hot bikers on this spectacularly hot day. There were vendors along the front selling great jewelry, clothing, raffle ckets and other goodies along with a face pain ng/removable ta oo booth that was kept busy all day with kids lined wai ng for their turn. The Tillsonburg Shriners were also set up selling raffle ckets for a car.

Rocky’s H-D 110th Anniversary Party Rocky’s sponsored Racecars were also on display out front. The beer tent was now open and the barbecue crew was turning out some awesome pulled pork, burgers, hotdogs, sausages and fries and the lineup was long and constant all day. I managed to get a cold beer and found a spot to sit awhile and listen to the fantas c band and had more than just a few people to talk to in the crowd. Sean Duncan stopped by to talk a bit before he was called away to deal with stuff and the ever lovely Katherine took some me out of her ultra-busy
schedule to chat as well. The contestants for the Swimsuit Contests started to arrive and they garnered much a en on from the crowd. I went over and got some shoots and set myself up a good vantage point from which to cover the contest. It was a fun me for all involved spectators and contestants alike. Cruising With Critter I’ve rejected many wannabes for one reason or another but mostly because I didn’t know them, they had no history and I wasn’t sure I could rely on them. That is crucial! I’ve already had one contributor who told me that he was writing up an event, he had the pictures because I saw him take them and I know he was there because I saw him there. But the piece was never submi ed and no reason was ever given as to what happened and why but I was lucky that I was there and had my own pictures and was able to do the event. What do you think the chances of me ever giving this person another assignment? I’ve had people say; “Hey I’d like to do your job. Can I come along with you?” I tell them “Sure, the event starts at 8:00 AM in the town 150 km from here. I leave at 4:00 AM Where do you want to meet me?” “II don’t get up that early!” come the shocked reply. “Then you can’t do my job!” End of discussion. I ride alone a lot! Also I have to know who I’m sending where and be able to vouch for them. Our World is built on and relies on trust and I don’t want someone who could be a Wild Card or Flake running around with a camera under my banner. The ones I have chosen have not just appeared out of the blue, and I’m not just using them just to fill a void or just to show up and cover something that I can’t with the crew as it was, I know that they can all bring something special to the table and give the Mag be er representa on in all areas of the Province because, as I’ve already stated, I can’t be everywhere and The Mag isn’t just about me. From what I’ve seen so far these new folks will provide you with good coverage and good entertainment and informa on and it will only get be er because they want to and I’ve wanted them on board for quite some me and they can do what I’ve done in all areas of the Province and hopefully even be er! They are solid and not new to this life or to the real people that exist in it. JR is effec vely mostly re red although he s ll does the Feature Stuff along with the lovely JB and is taking full advantage of the me to spend it with his family and finding true value and meaning in those hours days and years that he sacrificed for The Mag and while he can never recapture those moments he can make up for lost me.. It is with deep regret that I announce the death of Tim (Shaggy) Caron. Shaggy was a founding member of The Phantom Thunder MC. I was able to make it out to his funeral and the turnout was tremendous! There was representa on of most of the Motorcycle Clubs from all over Ontario and the procession was long as they a"er a short service they escorted Tim on his last ride throughout the Streets of London, past the London police sta on with his Brothers riding without helmets (As per Tim’s request.) to the Celebra on of life party at The Eagles Club. Tim had been cremated and his ashes placed in a custom painted motorcycle tank and respec#ully transported aboard the Forever Free Motorcycle Hearse owned and operated by George Winney. It was truly awe inspiring to see the out pouring of love and respect shown by the
Biker Community as Shaggy was very much loved and respected by all that knew him. He will be sorely missed! The Iron Sirens MC turned out big me and did the food and all for the celebra on of life party. I apologize to the 81 in Scarborough for not making it their Bike Wash in June. Flakey weather! It was pissing down here in Newmarket it cleared and I headed down there and was driven back. I e-mailed and called every number I had to see if it was s ll on or if they were going for the Rain Date, but was unable to get through to anyone and incorrectly assumed that it would be the Rain Date a"er all who would have a Bike Wash in the pouring rain. Who knew it was nice in Scarborough and shi y in Newmarket? I have been ge$ng out and about trying to get to meet some of our adver sers new and old first hand rather than just via a telephone line or keyboard and monitor. I rolled north up to Collingwood to check out Thurst-T’s new shop and discuss a few things and was suitably impressed by everything they have done. Paul and Wendy are great people and they should really rock in this new loca on. On the way back I rolled through Stayner and thought that I would check out another new adver ser Gables Bed and Breakfast as they seemed like such nice people on the phone. I thought they might like to have some copies of The Mag as well. I called and was told to come on over. I rolled up in front of this fantas c looking Victorian century home and was greeted by Lois and Bill and they were nicer in person than they were by phone. They showed me around the house and I was blown away. Clean as a whistle, with a nice comfortable, hospitable feel to it. There was a great lounge/bar/TV room an enormous dining area huge modern kitchen, three comfortable looking guestrooms all with private bathrooms. There is a huge beau fully maintained backyard with a killer covered deck and a hot-tub that is open year round. Louis says she serves a “dynamite breakfast” There is also secure parking for motorcycles. There is an interes ng story on how this couple came to

Check out their ad in The Mag and do yourself a favour check them out. Like I said I s!ll try to cram as much into a day as I can but some days are a challenge. I’ve always had events and par!es and loyal!es to friends and clubs and certain events are extremely important and special to me and always a#ended and I would never have thought I would ever not a#end, but as The Mag is demanding more and more of my !me I’m finding it difficult to get to everything and some are going to be impossible. One such event is The Outlaws MC Annual Art Weller/ Bondo/ and Moover Memorial Party that they hold out in Pickering. I had two other events that I’d done already that day and I was fast running out of steam and Victorian Century Home day as I had to be up early the next morning to cover another event, but I was in the general Gateway to Georgian Bay vicinity so I swung by. Aces & 8’s / Kawartha Bikers Church Christmas in July By Donnie Meeker
Hi Riders Mag readers…new guy here….Cri er with his usual wit was the one that came up with the moniker Dangerous Donnie…one of my club brothers quickly said…yah you’re only a danger to yourself! …. Any how I will try to cover some events in Durham and report to the best of my memory (which may not stand up in court, so go easy on me) On Saturday July 27th I was able to do a double header on a most excellent day, star ng off mee ng some of my MC brothers at Timmies in Picky Pickering plus a few friends, off we headed to Oshawa to sign up for the ACES & EIGHTS “Christmas in July Toy Run” for the Durham Children’s Aid Founda on…This is a true case of giving back to our community, and Sundance’s crew (A & 8’s) put a ton of work and effort into this annual event. I a ended the same run last year in a torren al down pour, and the turnout was sadly sparse…this year however they were just short of 150 which in our summer with events every weekend is very good turnout. There certainly were lots of toys and dona ons, so I am pre y sure they reached their goals, and the Founda on was no doubt pleased with efforts of the brothers and their ladies who all worked on the event. About 10am we hit the road, awesome blocking by boys with no hiccups all the way. In my one too many years riding and being a road captain I know what it takes to lead a
So anyhow the ride ended up at another fine event put on by the Bikers Church in Peterborough ….Reverend David was there to welcome us as we rolled into his annual Show and Shine…we parked our scooters and made our way over to the familiar big tent (thx to Larry P for the shade provided by his big top style tent)…it was pre y hot that day…BTW if you ever need a tent for an event call him. B i k e r s Church always have entertainment and this year it was none other than Fog-

We all know Bikers Church folks are all stand up people… (yah you too out there in the Hammer) They had the BBQ cranking out burgers and sausages…with fried onions…(jeez yah never get those anyplace now-a-days eh?) I voted in the S & S …fell in lust with two tone red and white early 60’s FL Shovel. I have seen this bike a few mes and just love with that scooter.an old buddy had his trike in the show…with some awesome fabrica on…anyone can bolt on shiny shit…but to build a frame, make things fit with where they don’t go…well that always is so old school….and you rarely see rides like this anymore. But you know I have seen the younger crew coming with their spin on how Harleys should look…and I like it too… Spor es all chopped…with café racers bars, lowered suspension..half fenders..black powder coa ng..the old style XLCH peanut tanks…stuff like that never goes out of style. Bikers Church had many vendors on site, I wish I had brought some more cash as I saw some pre y good deals. Now if you fine readers can lend me some money ll my brother with the hunchback straightens out…. i am looking to borrow a million bucks.. …and promise 100% to repay Newfie style…...a dollar a year for a million years… Ok Ok I will leave the jokes to the professionals…. A man was dining alone in a fancy restaurant and there was a Gorgeous redhead si ng at the next table..He had been checking her out since he sat down, but lacked the nerve to talk with her. Suddenly she sneezed, and her glass eye came flying out of its socket towards the man. He reflexively reached out, grabbed it out of the air, and handed it back. ‘Oh my, I am so sorry,’ the woman said, as she popped her eye back in place. ‘Let me buy your dinner to make it up to you.’ They enjoyed a wonderful dinner together, and a erwards they went to the theatre followed by drinks... They talked, they laughed, she shared her deepest dreams and he shared his. She listened to him with interest. A er paying for everything, she asked him if he would like to come to her place for a nightcap and stay for breakfast. They had a wonderful, wonderful me. The next morning, she cooked a gourmet meal with all the trimmings. The guy was amazed. Everything had been so incredible! ‘You know,’ he said, ‘you are the perfect woman.. Are you this nice to every guy you meet?’ ‘No,’ she replies. . .....’You just happened to catch my eye. The four Goldberg brothers, Lowell, Norman, Hiram, and Max, invented and developed the first automobile air-condi oner. On July 17, 1946, the temperature in Detroit was 97 degrees. The four brothers walked into old man Henry Ford’s office and sweet-talked his secretary into telling him that four gentlemen were there with the most exci ng innova on in the auto industry since the electric starter. Henry was curious and invited them into his office. They refused and instead asked that he come out to the parking lot to their car. They persuaded him to get into the car, which was about 130 degrees, turned on the air condi oner, and cooled the car off immediately. The old man got very excited and invited them back to the office, where he offered them $3 million for the patent. The brothers refused, saying they would se#le for $2 million, but they wanted the recogni on by having a label, ‘The Goldberg AirCondi oner,’ on the dashboard of each car in which it was installed. Now old man Ford was more than just a li#le an Semi c, and there was no way he was going to put the Goldberg’s name on two million Fords. They haggled back and forth for about two hours and finally agreed on $4 million and that just their first names would be shown. And so to this day, all Ford air condi oners show -- Lo, Norm, Hi, and Max -- on the controls. Three guys are fishing when Fred gets up to get a beer, loses his balance and falls out of the boat. Ed says “ What should we do?” Bill says, “You be#er jump in a er him, he’s been under water for a while, he might need some help.” So Ed jumps in, and a er some me, he surfaces. He says, “Help me get him in the boat.” They wrestle Fred back into the boat. Ed says, “What do we do now, it doesn’t look like he’s breathing.” Bill says, “Give him mouth to mouth.” Ed starts to blow air into Fred’s mouth and says, “Whoa, I don’t remember Fred having such bad breath.” Bill says, “Come to think of it, I don’t think Fred was wearing a snowmobile suit, either.” “Turtle What if you were playing in the club championship tournament finals and the match was halved at the end of 17 holes. You had the honor and hit your ball a modest two hundred fi y yards to the middle of the fairway, leaving a simple six iron to the pin. Your opponent then hits his ball,

Joke lo ing it deep into the woods to the right of the fairway. Being the golfing gentleman that you are, you help your opponent look for his ball. Just before the permi ed five minute search period ends, your opponent says: “Go ahead and hit your second shot and if I don’t find it in me, I’ll concede the match.” You hit your ball, landing it on the green, stopping about ten feet from the pin. About the me your ball comes to rest, you hear your opponent exclaim from deep in the woods: “I found it!”. The second sound you hear is a click, the sound of a club striking a ball and the ball comes sailing out of the woods and lands on the green, stopping no more than six inches from the hole. Now here is the ethical dilemma: Do you pull the chea ng bastard’s ball out of your pocket and confront him with it or do you keep your mouth shut? “Turtle” Phone: 519-846-0040 Fax: 519-846-0145

Page My Trip To The Airport Eatery There was a bit of confusion at the airport eatery this morning. When I was ready to pay for my items, the cashier said, “Strip down facing me.” Making a mental note to complain to my member of parliament about Homeland Security running amok, I did just as he had instructed. When the hysterical shrieking and alarms finally subsided, I found out that he was referring to my credit card. I have been asked to shop elsewhere in the future. They need to make their instruc ons to us seniors a li le clearer! A er he posed the ques on in prayer, God visited the man and told him he must give up smoking, drinking and sex if he wanted to get into heaven. The man said he would try his best. God visited the man a week later to see how he was ge ng on. “Not bad” said the man, “I’ve given up smoking and drinking but when the wife bent over the lounge suite and I caught sight of her wonderfully shaped derriere and long slender legs, I pulled her skirt up, pulled her knickers to one side and gave her one right there.” “They don’t like that in heaven”, said God. The man replied “They’re not too happy about it in Wal-Mart either!” Two nuns were shopping at a 7-11 store. As they passed by the beer cooler, one nun said to the other, “ wouldn’t a nice cool beer or two taste wonderful on a hot summer evening?” the second nun answered, “indeed it would, sister, but i would not feel comfortable buying beer, since i am certain it would cause a scene at the checkout stand.” “i can handle that without a problem” the Continued Page 38 other nun replied, and she picked

This month’s feature guy is Joker and he started out riding back in the mid 70’s saying he picked up a 1969 Harley KRT racing bike on a trade, he said it was an awesome machine but he needed to do some upgrades including adding lights, brakes, and street res to get it street legal. He says the bike was from the corporate racing program and included a stretched frame tanium bolts, a powder coated fuel tank and went like a bat out of hell. He did a lot of riding in his hometown of Toronto and also to Montreal and O awa areas hooking up with a now long defunct club called the Black Rebels, but like a lot of teenage guys he knocked his gal up and married her, traded his bike for a Buick Wildcat and ended up blowing the motor in the car and trading it off for towing charges. Joker was a millwright and travelled a lot for work and as a result of that his marriage hit the rocks and they ended up going in totally different direc ons. He says that for a while there he spun out of control finding new friends and in the process a lot of trouble that he really didn’t need and was wandering around un l he found his new gal Marg who you see here modelling on his bike. Joker credits her with ge ng his

life back together and finding a steady job at one of the local auto plants working on the robo cs lines. Once he got his life together he picked up an old knuckle from a friend and spent 6 years travelling extensively looking for original parts to put his knuckle back to its original condi on. When the bike was completely restored to his high standards he put the bike in the Interna onal Motorcycle Supershow taking second place in his class behind an original
Black Rebel
owner Indian Scout, he was pre y pleased with his results and he was also looking to sell the bike off wan ng to buy a house. His wife’s mother had reached an age where she was incapable of taking care of herself and they decided to buy a house and move her in with them. With the help of a photographer, at the show, who had been taking some pictures of the bikes he was able to find to serious buyers who were interested in purchasing his minty Knuckle and sold the bike to a buyer in Texas. Joker says that he got a good price but had invested a lot of money into the machine but was happy to be able to purchase the house that he and Marg wanted for themselves and her mother. Joker was bike less again and a er a work related injury put him on disability ul mately leading to re rement he decided that he wanted to get himself another Harley. He was very clear that to his way of thinking any bike that came a er a shovel was not a true Harley and he did express some reserva ons about this bike as it was built during the AMF era but he said well it’s a shovel and it runs real good. He picked up the bike about 6 years ago saying it was si ng in the showroom at a local bike shop in Hamilton for sale on consignment. The bike was an original 1976 OPP police special and was offered for sale by the chap that had bought the bike at the auc on. Joker thinks that it was taken to the UK for a while un l the chap became ill, returning to Canada and pu ng the bike up for sale. He says it had a UK license plate on it when he bought it and he returned the plate to the seller a er he brought it home and put it in his living room for 3 years of TLC. Joker says he tore the bike down and checked out all the sheet metal and replaced anything that he judged not to be original equipment in the ns and also
replaced all bolts that were metric being quite obviously not original equipment. He also sourced the buddy seat and replaced the en re wiring harness ensuring that all items on the bike worked right down to all the lights on the dashboard saying that as they do tend to vibrate loose from me to me he wrapped neoprene o-rings around the lights to cut down on the vibra on and also to prevent rain water from ge ng into the connec ons. As a ma er of fact he had been doing some work on the bike the morning that we did the shoot back in April saying that the horn had vibrated off the bracket pulling the wiring and knocking out the headlight as well as having to replace a por on of the exhaust system, the bike was looking sharp and shiny when we did the pics and story. This will be his third year riding this bike and with his bad back he doesn’t get out as much as he would like but he does make it out to some of the local show and shines saying that he had taken an award at the Blackhawks show a couple years ago in the vintage class. When i asked Joker about future plans it was not surprising to hear that he wanted no bike newer that this 1976 but he did say that he wanted to take the motor down this year and go over the engine saying he hears some noise in the top end and he wants to check out the valve train despite having good compression. He also wants to get all that aluminum off the engine and get it polished up to a fine shine saying
that his former bikes both sported highly polished and buffed aluminum. Jokers biggest ambi on was to travel North America saying that he would like to sell the house since his mother in-law has passed away a number of years ago and buy himself an RV and put the bike on the back and spend a year or two wandering around the con nent saying he would like to head west first then south from there. It sounds like an interes ng ride and he admi ed that it was a dream but with his current health concerns he said it’s a soon or never proposi on as he says that his back is not going to get be er as he ages and that in me he will not be able to ride anymore but he does say that if he makes it around the con nent and is s ll able to ride he would love to head over to the UK and ride the bike there as it has already spent some me over that way and he would like to look up some ancestors.

In our Life’s Manual Jesus warns us Jesus warns us about Satan.... “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd gives his life for the sheep.” (John 10:10-11). When was the last me you read the papers, how many mes can you find where someone has been in a accident and was killed, or what about a friend, a biker taken due to accident or a sickness, or what about that child gone all because they were in the wrong place at the wrong me. It is not fair why should our loved ones be taken when they are just in their early life. Just last week a Bikers daughter, a tragic loss and she was just a passenger snatched from her parents and family no more to be part of but now in a coffin buried in the ground, what a waste of a young life. Satan’s first tac c is to steal. What would he like to steal? Anything and everything that will lead you to God’s love. Satan steals love from people. If we will open our eyes we will see it everywhere around us. Broken families, abuse, hatred, cruelty, murder. The Enemy would like us to think that there is no love in the world. He would like to steal from us even the ability to love and be loved. There are so many hur ng people in the world. So many who don’t understand how to give or receive love. The devil will make you feel worthless as a human being--undeserving of love--incapable of receiving love. Why? For one reason--to separate us from the MAN. This month there is only one way I can answer this subject and I must go to our Life’s Manual “The Bible” God will crush Satan, and he will use His son Jesus Christ to do it. In about 56 C.E. the apostle Paul wrote a long le er to the Chris ans in Rome. In concluding it, he encouraged them by saying: “For his part, the God who gives peace will crush Satan under your feet shortly.” (Romans 16:20)This is more than a superficial bruising. Satan is to be crushed. Paul here used a Greek word, syn•tri´bo, that means to bruise into a jellylike state, to trample down, to destroy utterly by crushing. As for the human seed of the Serpent, this is due for a real plaguing in the Lord’s day, climaxing at the great tribula on in the complete crushing of Babylon the Great and the poli cal systems of the world. Thus Jehovah brings to a climax the enmity between the two seeds. The Seed of God’s woman triumphs over the earthly seed of the Serpent, and that seed is no more! What, then, is in store for Satan himself and his demons? John tells us: “And I saw an angel coming down out of heaven with the key of the abyss and a great chain in his hand. And he seized the dragon, the original serpent, who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years. And he hurled him into the abyss and shut it and sealed it over him, that he might not mislead the na ons anymore un l the thousand years were ended. A er these things he must be let loose for a li le while.”—Revela on 20:1-3. Who is this angel? He must have tremendous power to be able to dispose of Jehovah’s archenemy. He has “the key of the abyss and a great chain.” Does this not remind us of an earlier vision? Why, yes, the king over the locusts is called “the angel of the abyss”! (Revela on 9:11) So here we again observe Jehovah’s Chief Vindicator, the glorified Jesus Christ, in ac on. This archangel that cast Satan out of heaven, that judged Babylon the Great, and that disposed of “the kings of the earth and their armies” at Armageddon would surely not step aside to let a lesser angel deliver the masterstroke in abyssing Satan . Will this final effort by Satan succeed? Certainly not.
Biker John vividly describes the outcome: “But fire came down out of heaven and devoured them. And the Devil who was misleading them was hurled into the lake of fire and sulphur, where both the wild beast and the false prophet already were.” Rather than being merely abyssed, this me Satan, the original serpent, will actually be crushed out of existence, pulverized, completely annihilated as if by fire. That’s right he will be gone. Tempta on will cease, Satan will not steal or take our loved ones any more. So what. Next The Life’s Manual talks about a new heaven and a new earth and things are going to change. Are you really ready for change?

It was mid-July, and a er torren al downpours, temperature yo-yoing, and an endless spring, it looked as though summer was ďŹ nally here! This was just in  me for me to get my feet wet, as a roving reporter. With all the events going on in Ontario, some overlapping, some hundreds of kms apart, and growing in number, CriÂ?er asked me to be one of his “Girl Friday’sâ€? to help cover a few, that he or others could not aÂ?end. First on the agenda, was Thurst-Ts Cycle Ltd. Grand re-opening in Collingwood, July 13th, and so it begins! A er some advanced warning, CriÂ?er explained that he had prior engagements, and would be sending me in his place. When I arrived, a er a beau ful summer morning ride, I was immediately greeted by the somewhat familiar face (can’t quite put my ďŹ nger on it) of Paul Thurston, owner of the motorcycle shop. He said he was told to look for the redhead, but I’m guessing the Riders Mag t-shirt was a dead giveaway too! Things were just geÂ?ng underway, bikes were rolling in, and the weather was amazing, as he took me inside to introduce me to his lovely wife Wendy. Knowing that both were very busy gree ng customers and friends, and asking a few quick ques ons, I took the liberty of checking out the shop, where I met volunteers Kathy and Spuds, who were very informa ve and funny. The new mul level building, is warm and invi ng, the main oor consists of the garage, service desk, bikes for sale, parts, accessories and clothing. The upstairs houses more clothing and accessories, as well as a cataloged female biker and in mate apparel bou que. As I came through the front door, I couldn’t help but no ce the leather riding suit, that was mounted on the wall. Upon further inves ga on, I saw framed newspaper clippings beside it, and that’s where the story got really interes ng!

the sport, happened in the early eighty’s, during a charity event at the Yorkdale Mall in Toronto, a hard landing on his jump, crushed 2 vertebrae and split his spine. As a licensed mechanic since 1980, Paul has worked on American, Bri!sh, and foreign model motorcycles, and owned a few motorcycle shops prior to opening in Collingwood. A"er re!ring in 1999, and living in the Bahamas for a number of years, Paul came back to Ontario, eventually mee!ng and marrying Wendy. A"er running Thurst-T’s promo!ons, which was a T-shirt and promo!onal items company, (hence the name Thurst-T’s) he finally came back to what he knew best, motorcycles. On a side note, just to make it perfectly clear, Paul is NOT Canada’s Worst Driver!!! I knew he looked familiar, and in 2010, I now remember seeing Paul on Season 6, as the cage claustrophobic biker, with more bleeps per episode than a cartoon of the Roadrunner. A"er a contestant expulsion, and a stalemate, Paul was the first one to get his licence and his keys to his bike back, no!ng that his experience with riding m o to rc yc l e s , helped him to get through the traffic rules and signs tests, and that following the experts advice and using some pa!ence helped with the rest. Around 8 years ago, they opened shop in the west end of town, and have now relocated and re-opened on HWY 26 in Collingwood. Thurst-T’s Girls were on hand, and in fine form, making sure that everyone was welcomed and informed about the services that the shop provides. The cashier had a surprised look on his face when the two nuns arrived with a sixpack of beer. “we use beer for washing our hair” the nun said, “back at our nunnery, we call it “catholic shampoo.” without blinking an eye, the cashier reached under the counter. Pulled out a package of pretzel s cks, and placed them in the bag with the beer. He then looked the nun straight in the eye, smiled, and said: “the curlers are on the house.”

Last Thursday night around midnight, a woman from Houston , Texas was arrested, jailed, and charged with manslaughter for shoo ng a man 6 mes in the back as he was running away with her purse. The following Monday morning, the woman was called in front of the Arraignment Judge, sworn-in, and asked to explain her ac ons. The woman replied, “I was standing at the corner bus stop for about 15 minutes, wai ng for the bus to take me home a er work. I am a waitress at a local cafe. I was there alone, so I had my right hand on my pistol in my purse hanging on my le shoulder. All of a sudden I was spun around hard to my le . As I caught my balance, I saw a man running away with my purse. I looked down at my right hand and saw that my fingers were wrapped ghtly around my pistol. The next thing I remember is saying out loud, “No Way Punk! You’re not stealing my pay check and ps.” I raised my right hand, pointed my pistol at the man running away from me with my purse, and started squeezing the trigger of my pistol. When asked by the arraignment judge, “Why did you shoot the man 6 mes? The woman replied under oath, “Because, when I pulled the trigger the 7th me, it only went click.” The woman was acqui ed of all charges. She was back at work the next day! Ladies and Their Harley’s
This month’s feature gal is Barb; amazingly Barb sent her applica on to be on our ladies and their Harleys list by snail mail, who does that anymore? It got lost in the shuffle on my desk and i found it a while later felt somewhat embarrassed for having fumbled the le er and gave her a call. It turns out that she and her husband were long me motorcycle riders and that he had had a number of bikes over the years preferring the metric cruiser type bikes. When he thought that she might like to ride on her own he bought her a kick only Kawasaki bike which she says she rode around
THE RIDERS MAG ----- PAGE 40
the local school yard never ge ng out of second gear. Like some many other guys her husband had always wanted to own a Harley and their current ride at the me was a 1981 Honda Gold Wing, it was approaching their 25th wedding anniversary in 2002 and they decided to go shopping and check out new bikes and in par cular a Harley touring bike. They se led on a brand new 2002 Classic and it was one of the pictures that was included in the envelope, him on the bike outside of the local dealers shop. The worst news ever came a few years later when he was diagnosed with stage four cancer and as his condi on con nued to deteriorate he gave his two remaining metric cruisers off to his brothers and le the kick start Kawi and the Harley with Barb telling her that if she ever gets comfortable riding that she should take his bike and trade it for something smaller or at least more her size.
Ladies and Their Harley’s
Well he passed away in March of 2009 and Barb really found it difficult to look at his bike let alone sell it and just kept it nice and clean and covered up in the garage saying she did actually adver se it for sale once and realized her heart was just not in selling the bike and she so badly wanted to keep it. Many of their friends had been encouraging her to get out and ride, and many were also sugges ng to her that conver ng the bike over to a trike might just be the thing since she did not want to part with the bike; she was unable to ride on two wheels due to her disability. She went several mes to Lens Automo ve in Jarvis to take a look at his trikes and to discuss possibly conver ng over her husband’s 2002 Classic to a trike. They offer a Motor trike conversion and i know from some who ride trikes and others who sell them that it is one of the premium op ons when it comes to trike conversions with independent rear suspension and Barb also added the reverse gear op on which she remarked was mandatory in Ontario. In all the trikes i have shot belonging to both men and ladies i have never heard tell that reverse gear is mandatory in a trike, hmmmmm. All the sheet metal or maybe fibreglass bodywork was painted to match the original paint on the bike and a set of op onal running boards was added to the machine another
feature that i had never encountered before but one that definitely looked sharp and with the op onal blue lights in the front of them i could picture Barb riding around in the country by her cabin in the Bracebridge area looking some sort of far out UFO cruising down the gravel roads, oh yeah she says they are great for keeping down the stone chips. The decision to do the conversion took Barb about 2 years and she is absolutely thrilled with the results of her conversion saying that she made the trailer with a friend and its mostly a pre-fabbed chassis with some insulated side pop riveted together, they threw a USA Anniversary Harley-Davidson 1976 limited poster onto the lid of the trailer just to make it look original or at least a li le different, she says that the trailer is the perfect ou it for hauling her stuff up to the cabin
whenever she heads up that way. Barb has par cipated in some local events in the Niagara area saying that she took first place in the Lincoln County show and shine in the special interest category for her trike in the 2011 instalment. She also par cipates in some charitable poker runs in the area but most of all she likes to head up to her cabin and says she also likes to ride out to Port Burwell which is more out along the shores of Lake Erie. Barb has been averaging about 6000 kms per year for the first two years since the bike was converted and she hopes to improve on that this year shoo ng for a 10,000 km year, when i asked her if she had any ambi on to take a long ride she was very definite that before she worried about riding down in the states she first wanted to conquer western Canada to the coast and then would consider riding south once that feat was accomplished. She says that once that’s out of the way then she definitely wants to get out to Sturgis and tour the area saying that there are lots of things out that way that she wants to do and see, including visi ng Mount Rushmore and the old faithful geyser, cool ride Barb thanks for bringing it over for us to enjoy.

Clare’s Port Dover
2nd Anniversary By Jon
It was another one of those perfect weekends, where Davidson Port Dover in the larger Port Dover could easily be the ideal ride des na on, with corner of his strip of stores. There temperatures in the low 90’s, and a pleasant cooling breeze are only like, 3 other similar (coming off Lake Erie). Looking over the lake, it was perfectly stores in Canada and 77 in the blue, and back towards the draw bridge, there were puffy States. You’re coming here for non-threatening clouds. For those who are brand new to the authorized Port Dover Harley motorcycling, Port Dover is “THE” des na on in Canada Davidson T-Shirts, the Harley every Friday 13th, and guess what – there’s one coming gi ware, and the good deals on up in September, in 13th in December. It’s like Canada’s Harley products from s ckers to Sturgis, Canada’s Laconia, Canada’s Daytona Beach, and all shot glasses and collectables to through the summer, Port Dover is a major des na on for hats to leather (he does not sell motorcyclists (even more frequented than the Falls). While there are bike builders and parts distributors in Port Dover, and have been for a long me, it’s strange to think that this is the first Harley Davidson store in Town. I’ve been in the area since 1968, when I was 2 years old. I remember the bridge (you ride over) being built, and the old one coming in at a different angle to the lower road under the new critter crew cards 10% off food purchase one – it wasn’t too long ago. I remember a lot more rus ng dilapidated buildings about, and the new strip of stores on Harbor street being built, replacing a shanty style mishmash of run down two story fish stores. Now this strip on Harbor Street (on the road that leads out to the pier and the big light house) is a new property of several businesses, including Clare’s Harley-Davidson, and has a few apartments above. The whole strip turned out to be a really excellent re rement opportunity for Richard (Wally) Epple, who also owns the paved parking out back, where (for the last 5 years) Deeley Harley Davidson has set up their Friday 13th pin stop, showing off the next year’s model and displaying some of the chrome on offer. Last year, Willy G Davidson turned up for photo signing (his PR guy stopped 7994 county rd 1 him from signing anything else… or did he? But we’ll get to that later in the story). at hwy 50 in loretto Port Dover - listed as harbour to the largest fresh water fishing fleet in the world (that’s good tas ng bass, and perch coming from clean Lake Erie - folks). It’s a big town, check out who’s playing at teaming with tourists, over-flowing with motorcycles, there’s a couple of hundred stores, churches, clubs, associa ons, services, hotels, motels, pubs, restaurants, a thriving theater, touristy things, and such like listed in the business directory. No, it’s hardly a risk to own a building on the harbor front, in which a number of stores have rented, families moved in, and where Richard and Gail opened a legi mate Harley Davidson store where they can be found 7 days a week – hardly re rement. Richard talked to representa ves of Deeley about 3 years ago (a er they www.rnrcustomcycle.com rented his parking lot for their display for Major & Minor Repairs, Rebuilds & Scheduled Service a massive Friday 13th event), and that led Complete Machine Shop Service, Frame Up Build to Order to conversa ons with John Clare of Clare’s Harley Davidson Trained P.H.D. Mechanic Harley Davidson in St. Catharines (and Niagara Falls, and in Fenwick), and their conversa ons worked favorably towards Richard owning his own store. 2 years ago, Richard and Gail opened Clare’s Harley

2nd Anniversary By Jon sign his old black Harley Davidson shovel, and in 2 minutes it was done. The store had a steady flow of bikers coming in, trying on things, looking around, si"ng outside on the orange umbrella covered benches in the hot sun, and either purchasing, or moving on. It wasn’t like the throng of pushing pulling people there are on a Friday 13th – it was a quieter, easier to cope with, mellow kind of nicely air condi#oned day inside the shop. In back, there were big deals 20 – 50% off everything from 10th anniversary baseball caps to the new Harley polyester jackets, guys hoodies, ladies short sleeve, long sleeve, sleeveless tops, clamp on handlebar mug holders, and all sorts. Richards beau#ful daughters Michelle, Chris#ne, Kelly, and Kim also put in #me at the counter (when they’re in town) – they come to see him, and he puts them to work! The present shop T-shirt have large, and colourful Port Dover graphics adorning the front, and back (they should be costly), but they were just ten bucks for the couple of days sale, and no tax on all the regular priced items. These are the kinds of specials we should all be looking for, and like I said - this was the perfect day to be heading to Dover. If you didn’t know about the open house – you really should pick up the Riders Mag more o'en. So that’s about it for Dover un#l PD13. See and not a single word in this story about Selkirk!

Custom Cruise In The South Keys! 2013
This past May 26th was a different kind of Sunday Cruise Night over the usual ones because except for this one and one other that happens later in the fall, the regular cruise nights are for “motorcycles only”. Twice a year the night is opened up not only to motorcycles but custom and vintage cars and custom trucks with all the entrance fees and profits from both the bbq & 50/50 draw are used to help make things be er in the local community. The motorcycle cruise nights that happen every Sunday are managed and hosted by The Cel c Brotherhood, and this will be the first year that the proceeds from the combined event went towards their TBI (Trauma c Brain Injury) & PTSD (Post Trauma c Stress Disorder) Awareness Campaign and in the near future, a ride to promote this TBIA called Awareness Ride

where the hope is to bring Brain Injury Awareness out into the light...and those who are survivors out from the dark! The Denny’s in the South Keys Plaza, in O awa’s south end ( Bank St. near Hunt Club Rd) has been very involved over the past few years in the motorcycle community and Jeff Billard, one of the two owners of the restaurant has three motorcycles of his own, which if he could possibly figure out a way of bringing all three in one night, he most likely would. This is the 4th year of the combina on bike, car and truck event and each year sees it growing larger and larger thanks to the help of businesses or groups such as Wicked Garage, Motorcyco Beau’s and The Cel c Brotherhood and this year there were a couple of new addi ons to the evening. The TCB along with Mike Bossio from Boss Auto Service, Conrad Cayer from ConCay Enterprises & Puriflate provided free Nitrogen fill-ups for about 40 motorcycles (Cars will have to visit Boss Auto Service and purchase re fill-ups) and while there is always an ongoing debate on the value of Nitrogen in your res, at least 40 bikes figured they would take advantage of the promo onal gi and they lined up to get their res filled with Nitrogen. This year’s funds are to be used to help in the purchase of special goggles that are used to simulate head concussion and to empower people by showing them the signs to look for should you hit your head and to urge you to seek out the proper medical help. One of the programs that TCB hopes to start up later this summer is bringing this new technology along with a demonstra on to youth hockey seminars and let all the kids try the goggles on and then a empt to try some simple func ons or tests like playing c-tac-toe, or trying to play a hand of cards while wearing the goggles. The hope is that when the kids are made aware of what concussion actually feels like they will be able to not only alert their coaches, trainers or parents that they may have sustained a head concussion but that they and their team mates will also be made aware that they are of no benefit to the team un l they are healed. The goggles are also going to get some use at a few of the motorcycle r o d e o s that TCB is involved w i t h throughout the summer by having the riders try some fun events (none that require them riding
Custom Cruise In The South Keys! 2013
a bike) and see how concussion can affect their ability to do simple tasks etc. I don’t know what the actual sta s cs are but you can bet that motorcycle riders are one of the largest groups that are affected by concussion mostly thanks to automobiles that don’t pay a en on to who they are sharing the road with. Anyhow thanks to the par cipa on of businesses like Denny’s – South Keys, Signs In 23 Hours, Spinnewyn Op cians, Motorcyco Beau’s and The Rider’s Mag, for their involvement in the motorcycle community this project has finally go en started and aside from helping young people stay safe & healthy, it will hopefully help to also create a more posi ve image to the mainstream society about the posi ve things that motorcyclists involved in charity do for the benefit of everyone. It is my hope that more and more groups and clubs will show their apprecia on to Denny’s – South Keys for helping the local biker community by perhaps having their club patronize Denny’s or even perhaps hold a group breakfast there much like The Cel c Brotherhood’s ..Brothers & Others Breakfasts. We must always show our support for the businesses that show their support for us!. The Fall Show will take place on Sunday Sept 8th and this fall looks to be the best event of all with games planned and a change in the layout which should draw more custom vehicles to par cipate and it is my hope that as many people in the O awa vicinity will make note and come out and a end this show... Motorcyco Beau So here we are in the middle of Summer and sadly the weather in the eastern Ontario townships has been pre!y shi!y over all and I am sadly reminded there used to be an old biker joke that says ”What comes a"er two days of rain?... Monday!” well it doesn’t seem like much of a joke these days but what the hell! You can’t let a li!le rain get in the way of pu$ng some miles on your bike and taking part in the events and rides in your local area. One of those events I a!ended recently took place in the town of Merrickville, a historical town built on the Rideau Canal system and about a 40 minute drive southwest of O!awa. Over the years Merrickville has become a familiar destination for motorcycle riders from Ontario, Quebec and Northern New York to go because the town has great roads all around it and within the town itself are dozens of interes ng shops, ar st’s studios and a wide variety of eateries, add to that the great park around the locks themselves and that makes for hours of things for riders to do. This is the fourth year for the motorcycle show but only the second for it to take place on one of Merrickville’s main streets. The town kindly closed off about three blocks for the motorcycle show to take place in as well as for riders to park their bikes. While the skies were mostly overcast, it never really threatened to rain and actually the clouds helped make the heat a li!le more bearable by blocking out the sun and while it is a rough guess, I would es mate that about four or five hundred bikes par cipated along with ten vendors including two who came all the way from Laval area. Some parts of the street were marked off into sec on for various motorcycle classes (custom – chopper – vintage etc) so that those who decided to enter their bikes and compete for some of the

prizes up for grabs. Once we got the shelter and the tables all set-up the fun part begins, bumping into old friends and making new ones. Mike Bossio, from Boss Auto along with his wife, the “Lovely” Adele stopped by to lend a hand and along with Wrench, aka Derek Pitcher, from Eagle Custom Chopper and several members of The Cel c Brotherhood there were lots of able bodies to hand out copies of The Riders Mag and I could wander about and take some pictures. I will definitely have to put Merrickville on my todo list for next year. One ride that took place in early June was the poker run for

Motorcyco Beau Big Daddy’s Cowpaddy which takes place on Aug 9-11th. The poker run just like the event itself was a huge success especially including the party at the end of the ride and if you are looking for a great "me, great people and great food then Big Daddy’s is the place to be. I went last year and had a fantas"c "me and got some great pictures and expect to spend most of the weekend down their loca"on near North Augusta which coincidentally is about 15 minutes south of Merrickville. Wednesday cruise nights at Rideau Carleton Raceway, hosted by the TCB are great as usual as long as the weather agrees and many nights we have had approximately 400 bikes a ending. Gillard’s Thursday cruise nights, on Hwy 2 just east of Morrisburg have also been seeing large numbers of bikes showing up and I gather there may be some Saturday Show & Shines taking place there in some of the upcoming long weekends! The Sunday Cruise nights at Denny’s restaurant in the South Keys Plaza in O awa’s south end (Bank St. near Hunt Club Rd) is growing and now the TCB have been pu#ng out picnic tables for riders to sit and eat food if they want. A lot of people were disappointed that the O awa Valley Ta oo & Motorcycle Show did not take place in Petawawa this year but word is that there may be a new show in the works to replace it next year and with all the military riders up there and the riders from Pembroke and the surrounding area there is a demand to have something going on there and Petawawa was very hospitable to all the riders who showed up so stay tuned and I will let you know what happens. Just recently the Canadian Vintage Motorcycle Group had their show-in-the-park in Oxford Mills, just a bit southwest of Kemptville and once again it was a big hit with the public because there is something that draws older riders out to look at bikes from earlier years that they once rode. Bikes long gone today, like Sunbeam, Matchless, Vincent & BSA just to name a few and seeing them all again in perfectly restored condi"on can really bring back a lot of memories. Riding The Well it’s been a tough me since my last ar cle, having spent 8 days in a London hospital undergoing throat cancer surgery and leaving there with a trachea tube to breathe. What a frickin` nightmare! Well the trachea tube has since been removed and I am on the road to recovery and loving life. Just a s nt of radia on therapy coming up and then all should be good, in my humble opinion. Got to thank my wife Linda and my kids for the me they spent at the hospital with me while I recovered. So as you would figure I have not got out to too many events this month but the one considered a must-a end was “The Run To The North Wall”, sponsored by the North Wall Rider’s Associa on and the Canadian Vietnam Veterans Associa on. While I had no choice but to go by cage I decided to hand out ice cold bo led water and the most current issue of The Rider`s Mag to the a ending bikers as they arrived at the Memorial (North Wall). It turned out to be a great idea and I went through about 4 cases of water and distributed a couple bundles of the mag. As this was the first me I could not ride in the procession I fully enjoyed watching the bikes roll in and there were many, over 400 I am told. A fantas c turn-out but the unpredictable weather was sure to blame for a number of out-of-town regular a endees not being there. The service sure was memorable and the 2 poems wri en by North Wall Rider`s member Steve Teremchuck were heart-felt by many. The wreaths of many clubs and organiza ons were laid in respect of the fallen. This year I had the opportunity to present The Rider`s Mag wreath with Tim Armstrong, our first Southwestern representa ve. Thanks Tim. Following the service, all riders were invited to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 143 for food, drinks and fellowship. I could not a end this part of the Run and I went home to chill, it was a long day so far. Did you know we have Hero’s adver sing in the Rider`s Mag. It sure was a touching gesture coming from Lenn Cur s and girlfriend Chris ne Oszter. Being the owners of ``Trike Motorcycle Accessories, Exotic Leathers

My Bike`` in Windsor, these two angels with a heart of gold got wind of a local lady, Louise Caron’s plight. You see, Louise had an e-bike she purchased last year and it was her primary source of transporta on, but in February she discovered it on fire and burning in her driveway and she had no insurance. That is where Lenn and Chris ne stepped in. The couple took it upon themselves and decided to donate a brand new shinny e-bike to Louise. ``We figured she had it rough`` Cur s said as they decided to help her out. Louise was diagnosed in March 2012 with pancrea c cancer and since has spread and grown into her liver and four surgeries later and she is ready to start her chemo treatments. It was very though ul of Lenn and Chris ne`s ac ons and thank you so much from all of us. Don`t hesitate to stop by ``Trike my Bike`` and thank Lenn and Chris ne personally. And our thoughts and prayers are with Louise on a full and speedy recovery. I missed many events and par es this month, I would have really enjoyed the Horsemen M.C. dinner bash, having a ended this good party in the past, I have heard everyone had a great me and of course the comments on the food were fantas c. I did see a video of the burn out pit and it was awesome, looked like Dan was having a good day :-) ``Big Balls`` this year was a highly a ended party/campout to raise funding for Downs Syndrome Kids and being a yearly bash the numbers con nue to grow. Organizers do a fantas c job of pu ng this one together! Hats off guys!!! It is so sad that this year there was a fatality! Tim “SHAGGY” Caron, a founding member of Phantom Thunder M.C. was killed on Saturday returning to the campout a"er running home for a minute. Shaggy was cut off as a PT Cruiser turned in front of him and was unavoidable. Tim was in his 39th year and married to his wonderful wife Tina (nee Boulton) and had 3 great kids Christopher, Cody, and Taylor. Tim’s life was cut short and our deepest sympathy goes out to his family, friends and Brothers--Till we meet again. R.I.P my Brother! There has been a trust fund set up for his children at Libro Credit Union C2-841 Wellington Rd South London Ont N6E-3R5.

Joke Speaking English is apparently what kills you. I have a li le Garmin. It sits there in my car. A Garmin is a driver’s friend. It tells you where you are. I have a li le Garmin I’ve had it all my life Its be er than the normal ones My Garmin is my wife It gives me full instruc"ons Especially how to drive “It’s thirty miles an hour”, it says “You’re doing thirty five” It tells me when to stop and start And when to use the brake And tells me that it’s never ever Safe to overtake. It tells me when a light is red And when it goes to green It seems to know ins"nc"vely Just when to intervene. It lists the vehicles just in front And all those to the rear And taking this into account It specifies my gear. I’m sure no other driver Has so helpful a device For when we leave and lock the car It s"ll gives its advice. It fills me up with counselling Each journey’s pre y fraught So why don’t I exchange it And get a quieter sort? Ah well, you see, it cleans the house, Makes sure I’m properly fed, It washes all my shirts and things And - keeps me warm in bed! Despite all these advantages And my tendency to scoff, I do wish that once in a while I could turn the damned thing off! An Arizona couple, both well into their 80s, go to a sex therapist’s office. The doctor asks, ‘What can I do for you?’ The man says, ‘Will you watch us have sexual intercourse?’ The doctor raises both eyebrows, but he is so amazed that such an elderly couple is asking for sexual advice that he agrees. When the couple finishes, the doctor says, ‘There’s absolutely nothing wrong with the way you have intercourse.’ He thanks them for coming, he wishes them good luck, he charges them $50 and he says good bye. The next week, the same couple returns and asks the sex therapist to watch again. The sex therapist is a bit puzzled, but agrees. This happens several weeks in a row. The couple makes an appointment, has intercourse with no problems, pays the doctor, then leave. Finally, a er 3 months of this rou"ne, the doctor says, ‘I’m sorry, but I have to ask. Just what are you trying to find out?’ The man says, ‘We’re not trying to find out anything. She’s married; so we can’t go to her house. I’m married; and we can’t go to my house. The Holiday Inn charges $98. The Hilton charges $139. We do it here for $50, and Medicare pays $43 of it, leaving my net cost of $7. “Turtle” Q: Why do men’s clothes have bu ons on the right while

Q: In golf, where did the term ‘Caddie’ come from? A. When Mary Queen of Scots went to France as a young girl, Louis, King of France, learned that she loved the Scots game ‘golf.’ He had the first course outside of Scotland built for her enjoyment. To make sure she was properly chaperoned (and guarded) while she played, Louis hired cadets from a military school to accompany her. Mary liked this alot and when returned to Scotland (not a very good idea in the long run), she took the prac ce
