July 21st- B.A.C.A Poker Run Bikers Against Child Abuse are holding their annual ride and poker run. The ride will be starting at Place d’Embrun, 767 Notre Dame St., Embrun, On. Aug 26th- The Riders Mag Annual Show ‘N’ Shine Get your maps out, The Riders Mag is traveling to a new location this year. We have decided to venture out into the wilds of Loretto on August 26th for our annual Show ‘N’ Shine. There is going to be great food, live music, great vendors, and of course the show n shine. We are looking to expand this year with the fun by MAYBE including some sort of biker games. So here we are with the 2018 riding season just getting into full swing! This is our busiest time of the year and usually just trying to get out to cover all the events is a challenge but we find ourselves faced with the additional burden of still dealing with our resident gremlin, who we have appropriately named “FUCK” still wreaking havoc in our office, causing ongoing computer problems, and other issues that keep life interesting to say the least! We are now just trying to keep pace with all the crap and keep from drowning in it!

A prime example would be; This month, our entire 2018 picture file with all the pictures, for past and current events, suddenly vanished, along with several other pertinent files, similar to when my 2017 picture file disappeared last Fall! This recent disappearance coincided with a notice on one of the monitors that “Team Viewer” (A remote access program that we didn’t initiate) was in session! We shut it down and then we discovered that the files were gone!

We brought in our new computer Gurus and they were able to retrieve most of the files and beef up security but much of the damage was already done, as our computers were down while they worked on them! It put us behind by days which could well result in even more time before we can get the Mag out again because we missed our print deadline. We will be out as soon as we can and will be available on line sooner but we will be a little later than planned! Please be patient, we are working on it!

This is the type of stuff that has been happening since last Fall and each Month it is something different! I’m not a computer guy and rely on advice from others to find solutions! I have also discovered that solutions and subsequent remedies can be very expensive! Just when we think we have it all fixed and can finally concentrate on just running a Magazine here and then Poof! “They’re back!” These problems have been a huge financial burden and a constant pain in the ass!

It has also put us well behind on production and caused us to miss deadlines with the printer and delayed the distribution of The Mag! This is frustrating to our advertisers, readers, distributers and us!

It is not for lack of desire! I’m doing everything I can and putting all that I have into it! I, however, am not a rich guy and I am not sure how much longer I will be able to carry on publishing a free to the reader publication under these circumstances! Printing and distribution costs are huge!

Our advertisers have been loyal but these ongoing issues have really strained things! Advertising revenue alone, is just not cutting it especially with having to throw more and more money into fixing computer problems and then playing a seemingly endless game of catch up! I have to hire qualified people in order to get the job done reliably and properly! We are looking for solutions and exploring our options, reorganizing and redefining our business model so the Riders Mag can survive! It is certain that some changes are going to have to come and come soon! Sorry for any confusion and or inconvenience!

Too many Damn Funerals Death is inevitable and waits just around the corner or just down the road for us all! For some it is somewhat predictable as with those with health conditions and you can somewhat prepare yourself for that moment when the body finally gives out and for others it is completely unexpected and a total shock!

Either way, when word of their passing reaches your ears is when you experience the full impact! The realization that you will never see them, hear their voice or experience the things that made them special to you!

I hear it all the time “I was just with him/her!” or “I wish I had gone to visit, I wish I had said this or that or not said this or that!” Or you hope this individual knew how much they meant to you!

We wish that if only we had known, we could have somehow prevented whatever happened or said something more meaningful or whatever! We can’t, and the best that we can really do is to treat everybody as well as we can and let them know your true feelings while they are alive! Treat each interaction with those you are about as if it was the last time you would see each other alive!

I just lost two more friends over the past week or so!

Tamara Maine - Feb, 10,1969 – June 15, 2018

I was shocked to hear that Tamara had died! She and her motorcycle collided with a vehicle that had made a sudden lane change right into her path! I have seen the dash-cam video and it was evident that she had no time to react or avoid the collision! I was surprised to see the video posted on Facebook and was glad when the one who posted it finally realized how insensitive and disrespectful it was and deleted it!

The news was devastating to a lot of people in the motorcycle community and news of this type spreads like wildfire!

Tamara was well known and well respected in the motorcycle community as she was a hard-core rider who rode hard and really ate up the miles! She was an excellent rider who loved and respected her motorcycle and those in the biker World!

She presented herself to the World as a no nonsense, hard nosed, hard ass bitch, who was also witty and sarcastic and could definitely have an attitude at times!

To those who knew her better, she was kind hearted, charming, smart, articulate, extremely loyal to her friends and dedicated to her daughter Denai!

Tamara was also an animal lover, dogs, horses, cats, pigs! She knew and understood the absolute heartbreak of having to lose one and showed up to accompany a dear friend to the Vet to help her through the process of putting one of her gentle creatures down! Such it is, in life and in death, not easy but when you have a friend like Tamara to help get you through it helps!

Now we have to cope with the loss of yet another dear friend and kindred spirit whose life-light may have gone out but her memory will shine bright in the hearts and minds of all who knew her!

She will live on in other ways as well! Tamara was an organ donner! Her heart now beats in the chest of a 50-year-old man and her liver has given a second chance to a dying child from out of Province and countless others and this was her final, selfless act and gift to humanity!

I personally, will miss Tamara’s physical presence at all the places I would normally see her (And that was pretty much everywhere and anywhere, because she probably rode more miles than I did!) but I’m sure that I will sense her spirit in all those places and that will keep her memory alive for me!

Tamara was a class act and a true, one of a kind, unapologetic, bad ass biker bitch, who will leave a huge void in the hearts of all who had the pleasure of knowing her!

RIP – L&R – GBNF Penelope Harding-Warner – Feb. 11, 1954 – June 21, 2018 I have known Penny, her brother and sister and the rest of her family, as well as her husband, Tramp for a long time!

We were all teenagers together, coming from the same neighborhood and we consequently shared some great times way back when, in the wilds of Port Credit!

I’ve been desperately trying to make this just about Penny but cannot! She was an amazing person in her own right but I just can’t separate one from the other!

They were a team, and as perfect a match as I can imagine! It was a rare occasion when you saw one without the other! One is synonymous with the other like Bogie and Bacall, Romeo and Juliet and all the other memorable pairings you can think of and so it was with Tramp and Penny! You never thought of just one!

It seemed like her and Tramp were destined to be together right from those early years! Tramp went on to be a World Class artist, cartoonist, pin striper, illustrator and airbrush artist extraordinaire! Penny was his rock and always seemed to encourage and support him in absolutely everything he did! What affected one impacted on the other!

She was his inspiration, his soul mate, his riding partner, his once in a lifetime love! She also shared his passion for motorcycles and they travelled extensively throughout North America, riding side by side, twisting throttles, enjoying the Hell out of life and each other’s company! I’m sure that when she passed she has taken a piece of Tramp with her!

The last several Years of her life were a real challenge as Penny was diagnosed with throat cancer along with several other afflictions and conditions that saw her in constant pain and undergoing many surgery and treatments! Tramp was her rock!

She put up a Hell of a fight and was even able to get out on her motorcycle and in the wind on occasion, but in the end, all that she was enduring took its toll and she just slipped away!

She was a good soul and will be sorely missed by her family (Two and four-legged variety.) friends and anyone who knew her! She is at peace now, free from pain!

We, who knew and loved her, will feel the pain from her passing and miss her terribly but she left beautiful memories and touched many hearts during her life and that will have to get us through!

I rode out along with my Buddy Deadly Doug and his lady Flo (Tuesday) to join several BDR Members, family, friends, The Rider’s Mag - Page 9

and of course, Tramp and pay our respects at a Celebration of Life for Penny! It was being held in one of her absolute favourite places, their back yard! Penny had transformed it into an absolute joyful place with rock gardens, ponds, flower gardens and other whimsical things! It was her refuge and a place of solace where the pain she was experiencing could be better tolerated, or at least dealt with!

At the back of the yard amongst the greenery that she had planted and along side the statuary that she had lovingly positioned there, sat her motorcycle, draped with a huge spray of flowers that cascaded from the seat where they were placed and seemed to flow with the lines of the bike as if in motion! I could picture Penny on there grabbing a handful of throttle and heading off into the wind! The display was so representative of Penny, a combination of beauty and power! Fittingly, there was a picture of Penny comfortably sitting astride that motorcycle that had been carefully placed on it and

she looked so proud and so at ease! Beside the bike sat a small table and among several other pictures of Penny (One of her with Willie G Davidson.) and some of her favourite trappings of her life sat a small ice filled bowl, in which was placed a large bottle of Crown Royal along with a large shot glass! I gladly took the opportunity to have one final shot of fine whiskey with this fine lady! Salute lady, see you on the other side!

There were pictures of Penny everywhere but you could sense her presence there in the large yard that she loved and had given her peace and was now filling up quickly with friends and family! I said goodbye to my old friend Tramp, who was holding up reasonably well, but I could feel the pain and the anguish and was hoping that I could say or do something to get him through with as little pain as possible! But in my heart, I knew that the grieving when losing a part of your soul is all part of life!

Thanks to all those who had come out to celebrate and remember the life and times of a truly remarkable lady

There is no shortage of things to do this summer what with Rideau Rendezvous in Sensational Smiths Falls on July 7, 2018 and they have some great things planned for this year and are also even already looking ahead to Rideau Rendezvous 2019 where they plan to lay claim to the Guinness Book of World records largest all female burn-out by assembling a group of 400 or more lady riders and doing one gigantic burn-out! Bring your ear protection, surgical masks and eye drops for when this starts up!

Then it gets crazy with Friday 13th in Port Dover! Then Baconfest up in Lucan on July 14th!

August gets really nuts with ABATE Final Frontier weekend event up at their fantastic property in Priceville!

It is always a blast! Also, on that weekend is The Brotherhood’s 40th Anniversary Party!

I know from many meetings with Bruce Bissel that they have all kinds of things in the works to make this years “Biketoberfest” special! It will again run again this year at the The Welland County MC’s fantastic property! I know that I’m looking forward to it! Watch your What’s Shak’n listings in the front section of your Riders Mag for the latest in what is going on in the biker World!

Classy Chassis Annual Barbecue The weather forecasts for the day were ominous, to say the least and that is always a factor with many riders these days as many choose not to venture out if there is even a threat of rain! I’m not sure if they are afraid of

getting wet or having to perform the dreaded task of detailing the bike afterwards! The problem is, that if you live and ride by the weather forecasts you will miss out on a whole lot of great riding and some really fantastic events on the say so of some bone head that is simply reading from a prepared script. Much of the time they are wrong anyway so you miss an event for absolutely no good reason at all!

I was bringing my enthusiastic young intern, Chantel and her son Aidan with me today as it is such a great event and I knew that he would enjoy it! Being unable to take all three of us on the trike we took the truck and headed across to Classy Chassis’ fantastic property for the Eighth Annual Charity Barbecue!

This is a fantastic event with lots to see and do and it is free admission!

We arrived, found a parking spot and wandered on in to check things out! It was a bit overcast at this point in the day but

no sign of rain!

up and ready to go, the vendors area, the ramps for the stunt riders and the folks from “Two Fat Greeks” food truck were preparing for what was going to be a very busy day! The Police units that are brought in to ensure that bikes entering or leaving the property can do so safely with the least amount of impact on traffic on the very busy roadway. This is typical of how Classy Chassis do things and they do always live up to the Classy part of their name!

I found Jon Burnham and sales Manager Josh, both on the go greeting the riders who come from miles around to be here and making sure everything was in order!

The band was getting set up and you could feel the temperature beginning to rise as the sun had now burned through the clouds and it was shaping up to be a warm one!

Then a replica of the Blues Brothers car that Jake and Elwood drove in the “Blues Brothers” movie pulled up on the grass beside the stage and Jolliet Jake emerged from the driver’s seat. Actually, he is the Jake part of an excellent Blues Brothers Tribute band who have performed here before!

took up position which was standing in front of the car and posing for pictures with anyone who wanted to!

He stayed in character all afternoon which in itself was a daunting task as he had to be sweltering under that blazing sun in that Black Suit!

The band had now started pumping out some good old Rock and Roll tunes! The lead singer/guitar player looked and sounded familiar but I couldn’t quite put my figure out where I’d seen him before! He had announced the name of the band and introduced himself to the large group of riders that was growing in leaps and bounds as more and more bike pulled onto the huge property! The roar their bikes was constantly heralding their arrival! I finally figured out that the singer in question was Robin Hawkins, son of the legendary Rocker “Romping Ronnie Hawkins”! I had seen him play with his Dad and very talented sister Leah a few years back in Grand Bend!

They did a great job entertaining the crowd throughout the day and did announcements of various things that were taking place and so on!

They announced that the Stunt riders were ready to do the first of two shows and everybody made their way over to the cordoned off section of parking lot where the ramps were set up!

Young Aidan, had never seen anything like this before and as they roared back and forth in front of the crowd!

We grabbed some of the excellent food from the Two Fat Greeks food truck and took advantage of the free bottled water from the ice chest that had been provided by Classy Chassis to quench our thirst and found a shady spot at one of the many picnic tables under the large canopies!

There were plenty of folks to talk to and lots to see and do here so the day just flew by! We took in the second and final performance of the Stunt Riders before wandering off towards home! It was an awesome day and owner Jon and the amazing crew proved once again that they are worthy of the term Classy! Thanks to all for another great day with some outstanding people! I know Aidan is looking forward to a return visit!

Red’s Cycle Grand Opening/ Orangeville Bike and Blues Fest

I woke up to a gorgeous day and headed across Hwy. 9 to Orangeville to see Jenny of Jennies’ Leather shop only to find it closed. I also knew that The Town was doing their Annual Bike and Blues Festival that weekend and that the whole Downtown section of Town would have been shutdown to traffic other than people and motorcycles! I elected to wind through the backstreets to get myself over to Mill St. where I could park and then wander and explore the event from there. I turned onto Little York St. and ran smack dab into a large gathering of Motorcycles, people, dogs with signs attached, a big barbecue, a bevy of pretty girls and there was an old-time jazz ban playing! My keen Roving Reporter senses told me that there was something going on and I should investigate further!

I was further convinced when people started hollering at me from with within the crowd and waving me in! I figured them to be a The Rider’s Mag - Page 12

friendly gathering rather than an angry mob trying to lure me in for a good old-fashioned lynching over something I’d written or me having missed last years event!

It turns out it was the Grand Opening of Red’s Motorcycles a brand-new motorcycle repair shop that I’d been hearing about and had planned on checking out! The celebration was in full swing!

In fact, they were just getting ready for the official ribbon cutting! I parked grabbed my camera and got right down to it! I headed right for the crew of pretty ladies all dressed in the fashion of ladies from the 50’s! There were a lot of people I knew there so I got to chat a bit with them and even got to grab a hotdog.

Red himself came over to introduce himself and showed me around giving me a bit of background as we went. He has some really good credentials and tons of experience. It looks like a great little shop and I think he should do quite well there!

I moved on over to Mill St. and stopped for a beer with some friends that I met along the way and then moved on to find that I knew a lot of people and there were a lot of people in Orangeville that day! I did run into Jenny as she had set up a booth with some of her really great leather goods and collectables on display! She had the lovely Kim (A very attractive young lady who did a photo-shoot with me up at Eagle Eye Custom Cycle last year!) helping her! We talked a while before I moved on to check out more of the event.

I must say, this gets bigger and better each year! The streets were packed with people, vendors, and motorcycles were everywhere and not just confined to mill St. where a Show and Shine was being hosted, I believe by the Southern Cruisers RC., as I had noticed on previous visits here in years passed! I had assigned this event to another lady last year and she did attend but never submitted an article and no longer works for us, (Sometimes they work out, sometimes they don’t!).

There were multiple bands and performers set up and playing at different locations all over town so there was no shortage of entertainment, things to see, things to buy! There was a great mix of people in attendance here today! Old folks, young people, and everything in between. Big dogs, little dogs, dogs of all breeds colours and the occasional cat could b e found out here today and they all seemed to be having a ball!

I will be looking forward to coming here next year when they will do it all over again!

DON'T LOSE IT!

It was well worth the trip to Orangeville!

I even stopped in Loretto where I will be holding my Show and Shine the last Sunday in August, Aug. 26, 2018. They are doing lots of renovations to the place giving the grand old place not just a facelift but a major makeover! The food is fantastic and people are taking notice and spreading the word!

They have gained a growing crowd of regulars and it has become a great biker friendly spot! Their half price wing nights are evidently really popular!

They are looking forward to hosting the Show and Shine and I think I made a great decision in bringing it here!

Oliver’s Show and Shine This is Oliver’s second kick at the can and this year’s experience was far better than last years! For one, the weather didn’t suck!

I was supposed to bring picnic tables and had them all loaded on my utility trailer and was on my way, after picking up Chantel and her son Aidan.

We were turning onto Hwy. 9 from Bathurst St. when the trailer suddenly pitched violently up into the air and bounced several times but managed to remain upright! Wow! I stopped and checked it out, discovering that the load was still intact and secure but something was definitely wrong with the axel! Exactly what, I wasn’t sure but I knew that I wasn’t about to haul it down to Mississauga!

I slowly turned it around and headed back towards home hoping that I could make it without further incident! It was dog-tracking fairly badly but I slowly

made my way along and was able to make it to the Blades CH where it was destined to go at the end of the day anyways! I got it there dropped it and headed down to Mississauga now running late and without any picnic tables! The trailer’s condition would be determined later when I along with some of the Blades could give it a thorough check over as it could have been just a broken shackle or something minor!

We arrived at Oliver’s to find that Maxx and his crew of Predators MC were already there, chomping at the bit to get things going but I had all the stuff in my truck!

Setup goes really well when you have a good crew of motivated people and so we were ready in no time!

This year custom cars had been added to the agenda and they had some really fantastic looking cars out gleaming under the bright sunshine! There was also a car club that showed up to participate! They came in on short notice but Dave had set up a spot for them to show off their vehicles!

The bikes started to roll in and Maxx and his guys were kept busy directing them to the proper spots for The Rider’s Mag - Page 14

judging!

The weather co-operated and we had a great day! The band was fantastic and everybody was having a great time. They had set up a charity balloon busting game for prizes that was kept busy all day mainly because the gentleman running it was very animated and very vocal and would coax people to come play the game the proceeds went to Gastroparesis and Juvenile Diabetes!

Aidan volunteered to help him set up and also helped Stitch set her booth up as well! He was a busy young lad to

be sure and it’s nice to see that kind of enthusiasm and initiative in someone that age! He also has very good manners which is a treat in itself.

The beer garden did a great business and the hotdogs and hamburgers were very popular as well!

The judges did a fantastic job which I didn’t envy as there were some great looking bikes here not to mention the cars that we weren’t even expecting to judge. One gentleman came trophies handed out and we were torn down and heading for home feeling satisfied with the way things went! Dave, Marianne and crew are already planning for next year!

BOTB Daybreak This is one of my absolute favourite events, hands down! I love everything about it from the Brothers of the Blades and their families and supporters, who do a fantastic job running this event each and every year, the venue and all who come out to it!

It is an annual, invitation only, event that is held in Support of the Handicapped and provides a very special day to their guests, those with special needs, their families and the support workers!

They have a great free barbecue and refreshments, motorcycle rides, a tattoo parlour where removeable tattoos are applied, modified biker games and prizes galore!

I was unable to attend this year due to other commitments except for the very beginning and at the end as I dropped Aidan off to be with his Mom, Chantel (Our lovely intern! And yes, she works weekends!) as she rode in with Scott (One of the Blades members.)! Aidan enjoyed the ride on the trike! I came back at the end of the day to return him to their home! Chantel would be taking pictures and covering the event for the Mag but I just can’t say enough about it and had to get my two cents worth in!

Attendance was up considerably from other years as word of this day and the positive impact it has on the lives of their special guests has spread! The accolades of the treatment they receive here reaches other group homes and they want to be part of it! It is something that has to be experienced to believe and once they have been here they are hooked!

It is always a fantastic day so I wasn’t at all surprised when Aidan came running over to me when I rode in at the end of the day all excited and showing off the trophy he had won in one of the games! He remarked several times that he had a great time and would want to come back again! He is eight years old and that is a great age to witness and participate in such a heartwarming event! I understand that he also volunteered to apply tattoos in the Tattoo studio!

Lisle Legion Show and Shine This is a great event and I really love the people here! I had to apologise for last year as I had assigned it to a lady who claimed to be a photojournalist and capable writer and she lived nearby! Apparently, she did show up wandered around a bit, but introduced herself to nobody and then left! That was two events that didn’t get covered because of her and I had no knowledge of the fact that she didn’t do it until weeks later when I pursued her about it! She no longer works for us!

The weather forecasts for the day couldn’t even be described as iffy, bleak to miserable, would be a more accurate description! But I don’t ride according to the weatherman! I mounted up pointed the Trike to the North West and headed to the big town of Lisle!

Lisle, is a place where you don’t end up there by accident! You pretty much have to be trying to find it but It is worth the effort! It is a great little town and this is a great little legion!

always been particularly kind!

This year, despite the forecasts it was great! In fact, it got downright hot! Turnout was down a bit but it was still decent!

I entered the Trike to help support the event and the Legion!

They had some awesome food and the beer (No, not 50!) was cold and wet and went down well in the heat! It was nice to kick back with friends on their enormous patio and all for a very reasonable price! I had no shortage of friends to spend time with either!

A bunch of Black Diamond Riders showed up to support the event as they are all very big supporters of Canadian Legions and our troops!

Sensational Sinceray (Daughter of the late Johnny Sombrero.) had bought her Dads’ Motorcycle from his estate and had it all fixed up and is now riding it!

She had it cleaned up and entered it. There were some pretty awesome bikes vying for prizes today!

My old friend Turtle is a member of that Legion and it was great to see him and talk a while over a cold beer!

The judging was done, the trophies were presented to appreciative riders and it was time to head for home. It was a great day at a fantastic venue and all who came out had a great time! See you all next year!

81 Downtown Poker Run I couldn’t go on the run as I was on deadline and had other commitments for early in the day but I fully intended to get out for the afternoon tribute for Tamara Maine who had been killed in a motorcycle accident just days earlier and they were raising money for her daughter Denai!

It had been raining for most of the day so you would think that would be disastrous for a poker run! Not for these guys and not when it is for a cause such as Tamara!

I had the Trike in for service and by the time I picked it up and got the whole shuttle and shuffle thing done! I was running out of time and rather than scoot back home to switch back to the Trike after dropping my friend and mechanic Bronson back at his place, I elected to just take the truck!

I arrived and found a parking spot, which was no easy task, as parking can be a challenge at times when they run a major event like this! I lucked out big time and found a spot with no muss or fuss and slid the Black bitch in and wandered on in!

Hell, I didn’t get out of the truck and my pal Tony was waiting for me to talk to him! Tamara’s accident was the main topic of conversation throughout the day. I was told that there had been some rumours going around, concerning insensitive remarks that may or may not have been said by a police officer at the scene of the accident to a TV crew! Some people have claimed to have seen it! I have not and people are trying to track it down to prove or disprove, what is for now, just a vicious rumour! I will not comment on it further other than to say I hope it is just someone stirring up the pot! If that is the case then they should stay away from the pot as we have enough real issues to deal with and don’t need to be running around chasing ghosts and rumours!

Those who were on the ride, were not back yet but the barbecues were going full tilt and the tantalizing aroma emanating The Rider’s Mag - Page 17

from them wafted through the air and if you weren’t hungry before you got there, that sensational aroma would just about guarantee you’ll be looking around for the buffet table soon after arrival!

They had an enormous photo tribute to Tamara on the roll up door as you enter the CH along with her helmet, floral arrangements and a collection box.

The amazing Carpet Frogs were playing on the stage in the CH and they were just starting to set up when I arrived! They didn’t disappoint!

This is a great clubhouse with a real great vibe to it! I wandered in to find a whole lot of familiar faces and settled in for some great conversation and entertainment! They had put a donation box out right by the stage and the band announced that if you had a request of a song that you would like them to play drop some money in the box and that would go to Tamara!

There was a huge buffet table and enough food to feed a small army!

Riders were now coming in from the Poker run and the place was filling up quickly! There were an impressive number of lady riders on the ride despite the rain because they were riding for Tamara and they knew that Tamara would ride for them through anything! She was a true Biker and touched a lot of hearts on her ride through life!

She will be missed and she will be remembered!

So, to the Members of The Hells Angels Motorcycle Club, I say thanks for the great tribute to a wonderful lady! You did it with all the class and style that we’ve come to expect from you guys!

Bobcaygeon Bikefest I woke up to exactly what the weather prognosticators had predicted; Grey skies, raining like Hell and not all that inviting if you are riding a motorcycle!

Hell, I’m not made of sugar and while I would rather ride under nice warm and dry conditions I don’t really mind riding in the rain! I like the smell as the rain seems to freshen everything and lends a heady, musty, clean fragrance that I find invigorating and almost intoxicating! I threw on my Drover Coat saddled up and headed east to the Beautiful Town of Bobcaygeon where I would meet up with thousands of other riders to celebrate who and what we are, at Bikefest Bobcaygeon!

The rain stopped within an hour or maybe a less but it remained mostly cloudy for much of the day before the sun finally burned through and we were left with spectacular weather for the rest of the day This has grown from an idea that Krazzy Doug had years ago and he figured he just go ahead and get it done! Eight years later and it is still going strong and growing! Lenny Hochberg who is an outstanding Criminal Lawyer with a love of motorcycles came on board with Doug and they have formed a great team and the future looks bright indeed for this fantastic event!

The whole Town benefits from this event that draws in riders from hundreds of miles away and they do spend money, lots of it!

I rode up to the barricade just before the bridge and was waved on through! The streets were lined with vendors and motorcycles people were everywhere! Riding through the crowds requires some patience and you can’t be in a hurry especially if you’re riding behind me, even more so! It takes even longer simply because I know so many people and The Rider’s Mag - Page 18

when you have to stop every ten feet to shake someone hand and or have a very brief snippets of conversation along the way!

Krazzy directed me to where our very own Swap Meet Sue (as I call her) had already set up her booth and was arranging her inventory and Riders Mag Swag! I parked, unloaded the Magazine rack filled it with Mags and with my trusty Nikon slung around my neck, wandered off to explore what the streets of Beautiful Downtown Bobcaygeon held in store for me!

I ran into countless people I knew along the way and it was just one big gabfest as I made my way through friendly and very busy streets. People of all ages shapes and sizes strolled through taking in the sights and checking out the bikes and all that Bikefest had to offer and that was a lot! If you were hungry, there was an amazing amount of food being served and endless choices, from hot dogs, sausages and burgers, Greek food, Italian food, Chinese food, and just about every of fare imaginable was being offered here today!

Vendors galore offering great deals on all kinds of different items! If you were looking for cleaning products, cooking items, clothes including t shirts, leather goods, stuff to make your bike look good, run gooder and to make it gleam and glisten!

Sunglasses to protect your eyes, products to make you look better, feel better, smell better and perform better! Whatever you could possibly be looking for, there was an excellent chance that between the local merchants and all of these vendors you could find it here today!

Live bands, such as, Tungsten were performing outside all over town, from stages set up on Lots along side the road and from courtyards and patios at restaurants and bars and you could watch and listen for free!

There were no biker squads of intimidating, heavily armed and armoured cops parading through town like they were patrolling the streets in some warzone as it is at some other events. No road blocks or bully tactics! Here I saw maybe six Auxiliary Police officers strolling casually through town, taking in the sights and sounds and interactions with people always appeared to be pleasant! Understandably nasty weather in all surrounding areas had adverse effects on attendance and crowds were noticeably less than in years past. I still had a great time as did everyone else that I spoke to!

They have great ideas and have been able to take ideas and turn them into intricate parts of what is building into a true classic biker event that is inclusive of all walks of life, young, old and everything and everyone in between! It is a friendly, inviting environment in a picturesque town with so much going for it!

The Show and Shine saw some fine-looking motorcycles competing for some finelooking trophies! That being done, I packed up and headed for home!

Another great event! A fine job was done by all! See you next year!

As a Mom, I’m gonna take a few words to brag!

My baby boy graduated from college!!!! I am so, so proud!

He’s on to another course now.

This one is taking him one step closer to reaching his dream of working with a football team!

This boy sleeps, breathes, eats, FOOTBALL! Ok, now onto what’s been happening….

Lately, there’s been a lot of stories of folks being diagnosed with cancer. Hearing a few that hit relatively close to home, it does make you re-evaluate your life. So, to acknowledge these folks that are currently going through it seems like an important thing to do. I would hope that should I ever be dealt the cards that these strong people are now dealing with, that I would have the same support.

This rings true for a gentleman named Wayne Rodgers.

The ride was called Wayne’s Last Ride, and it was held in Cambridge. Wayne is in a huge fight with cancer, and he wanted to have one last ride. The folks that found out about the ride, did not disappoint. There were over 100 riders, the day was beautiful, and I don’t think Wayne could’ve been happier. Every summer, I am more and more amazed by the hearts of my fellow bikers, and I couldn’t be more proud to be a part of the biker community.

They raised money, riders met up with friends, old and new….and oh, by the way….HI DOUG! In my last article I had mentioned a friend of mine passing from Cancer. Her name was Ellen. Well, Ellen worked briefly for a chocolate place in Campbellford called Blommers. They had told Mike that they were putting flowers out and a plaque in Ellen’s memory.

Well, the other day while Mike was heading into town, he drove by and saw a friend named John Glenn, who also works at Blommers.

John was on his knees, replanting flowers in their garden. When The Rider’s Mag - Page 20

Mike stopped in to give him mags as we always do, John had said that some of the flowers didn’t bloom as he’d like (and they are a symbol of her) so he went out and got more flowers, and on his own time, replanted them so that the garden would be beautiful. I could only wish there were more men in the world like this guy. Tuggin’ at the heart strings ladies??

Now there’s a few events that I look forward to every year. Bikefest in Bobcaygeon, Dover, HHR, Ride for Paws and the Rednecks BBQ! The Rednecks Poker Run! This is always such a great way to spend the day and I can not say enough about the Redneck brothers. These boys put on a great poker run (4 hours long to be exact) and as always, gave us a delicious bbq. This is my 3rd year attending and it did not disappoint.

When we arrived at the meeting spot, I registered us while Mike fiddled with my brakes (As we were riding over, I couldn’t figure out why my right brake level was slippery. Apparently, I was leaking brake fluid….I suppose it’s better than ice cream on the gears! Or any other type of food that I find while out riding. God, I swear I should be 400 lbs by now!

I was finally able to pick up my patch, one paying respect to the Late Brad Moore who had recently passed away.

RIP buddy.

Getting the map figured out, we set out in our own little group to begin the hours long poker run. To be honest, I just followed Rod and Mike cause my ability to remember and follow directions (like a map) is deeply flawed. We’re talking, if we’re out somewhere and our mere survival depends on my ability to follow directions or remember a map, or know my North, South, East or West, then we’re screwed. Better pack the bottles of water and the twinkies cause if we’re in a scenario where there’s a 50/50 decision, as in “hey, which way are we going” scenario, I’m gonna be heading the wrong way. It’s happened…A LOT! Back to the ride!

This is a cross between a ride and a run. It’s an excellent ride.

There’s even a stop where we were able to get fries from a neat little cabin out in Kaladar.

However, Town of Kaladar, we were not allowed to use the public bathrooms in the community centre. They were open for voting, but not to use the facilities. Tsk, tsk. All that was around was a johnny on the spot and unless it’s dire, I’ll walk miles to an actual restroom. (which I did, so thank you Shell station.)

When all was said and done, we headed back to the boy’s place for some burgers and drinks, live music and prizes.

When I go to these events, the boys always take good care of Mike and I. We were greeted by Herb, who usually does the bbq but today, he was part of the live entertainment. Herb made sure we had our grub, and he and Mike chatted work stuff while I looked at the prize table. (With me, it’s food, then prizes!)

Now Mike keeps an eye on the weather when we’re out, and has kept us dry on a number of occasions. Yet this time, he saw a storm coming even too fast for us

to outrun. Thank god for the rainsuits and booties. (yes, I said booties, damn it I don’t like wet feet when I’m riding!) Yeah, I know, I know, pussy. Moving on!

Rod, Mike and I got wet. We are talking hail people!

This ride was all for a great cause. The boys had 108 riders involved, and they made a whopping $1,500 that is being donated to the Quinte Children’s Mental Health. So getting wet was worth it!

The HHR was here!!! 2200 bikes! Woooo!

Yeah, I cried..like a bitch!

So what.

It’s the HHR, and if you’ve participated in it, you’ll know the feeling.

Riding with 2200 of your closest friends, having folks both in Trenton and especially Port Hope, line the streets and waving at you. Vets, in full uniform, standing and saluting YOU! If you don’t get goosebumps from that, then you’re simply not human. I’m still getting goosebumps writing about it!

The ride itself was, in my opinion, the best yet. I’m referring to the riders themselves, staying in formation, following the rules of the road, even the cars respected what we were trying to do.

We got to Port Hope, and after grabbing a quick bite and saying hi to a few folks we knew, we went looking at the local shops. I FOUND FUDGE!!!!! Sorry, moving on.

There are two events for the Quinte Ride for Paws in the summer, the Poker Run and the actual Ride.

The Poker Run is generally smaller of the two, but this year they still made over $4248.30 for the animals. The funds go to four non-profit organizations to help our furry little friends, and is much needed since one of these places had a wicked fire a few months back. They do so much for the animals as these creatures can not help themselves.

At the last minute, I approached Donini Chocolate in Belleville for a donation for this event. This chocolate store is 2nd to none. Their chocolate is so good, we send it to Mike’s folks in Florida at Christmas, and I can be seen spending way more than my allowance in there each time I step in the door.

This time, they donated a 2.5 kg brick of chocolate. I wasn’t sure I’d get it there without melting, but damn it if I didn’t. (I suppose the fact that Mike and I didn’t get into this delicious piece of slab heaven and cause the greatest horrible chocolate catastrophy of 2018 prior to the ride was shocking in itself!)

The volunteers really go all out to keep this event safe and flowing. Tam and Derek started it, but others such as Lisa, Christine, Brad and Kelly as well as numerous others really put in so much time. There’s even donuts and coffee to get us riders started!

A few acquaintances were there. Donna and her beautiful Mama Sharon Loshaw showed. Sharon parked her chair rights beside the bikes, and was only too happy to support the critters. Donna is my lovely friend that is helping to put together a huge ride that I’ve spoken about, Desiree’s Ride.

My good buddy Kate was there, as was her boyfriend Rod. Some Windsisters showed up, and Troy showed his support with a silent auction that also raised funds for the critters.

A big shout out to the Mayor, Jim Harrison, and to Colleen Vickers from city of Trenton. They really stepped up with the final details and even came out to support the event.

By the way, yours truly won the 50/50! Though it pained me so, I donated it back to the charity. $270 is a lot of coin, but I know the animals need it more than I. Didn’t make giving it up hurt any less.

So I decided that if I had to do my story, and it’s like, 29 degrees out, I’m gonna sit on my dock to do it! I wanted to get to this earlier, but sometimes life gets in the way.

There’s been family stuff that I don’t wish to get into. There’s also been property stuff. Like a big-ass rotten tree!

This baby is one of the draws to the property, in my eyes. Mike just thinks it’s a big weed. Well, he’s just a big weed. HA! I said it. Whatcha gonna do??

Well, he’s been talking of trimming it as it’s getting quite the branch The Rider’s Mag - Page 21

structure on it. Unfortunately, mother nature beat him to it!

It was a Friday night, after a big storm. I was putting laundry away (see, I can be domesticated, just don’t expect the apron), and the crash was frightening. Like lighting, but louder. As I looked, I watched the large beast of a branch fall into the river. It was massive. Pretty cool to watch!

As Mike and I went outside to survey the damage, it looked like an expensive clean up job. Nothing would prepare us for what it would look like though in the sunshine the next morning, in all it’s glory.

We spent a few days looking at it, gauging what it would cost for us to remove it in machinery and time, and eventually found a young man that was willing to take on the job.

Say what you will about some of the younger folks in their 20’s, but there’s still boys out there willing to work for their worth. My son is one, and he offered countless times to help.

Mike found a young lad named Ryan with a tree business, in it’s infancy stage. He quoted a price, showed up when he said he would and stayed til the job was done.

Even cleaned up after himself.

I fed him lunch (see….domesticated) and made sure he had drinks. Mike of course, not being able to sit for longer than 3.5 seconds, was out there getting dirty, breaking up the branches with the new chainsaw he bought. I’ve seen the damage that I can do to myself cutting veggies with a kitchen knife, I stay clear of blades with motors.

Hell I’ve cut myself with a damn butter knife!!!!

When all was said and done, the branch was gone. Mike however, wanted the rest of the tree gone. I was against the idea, but, in light of stomping my feet and holding my breath for a truly epic temper tantrum, we compromised. I asked if it must go, could we say, make a huge bench with the stump that would still be in the ground?

The tree is actually rotten inside, so it’s gotta come down. Thankfully, the trees are what I love out here, and we have quite a few others still gracing our riverfront.

Alrighty, now for the mean n potatoes of what’s comin’.

On Thursday, May 31 at 3:30pm, I sat on my Mom’s left and held her hand as her life was medically ended per her wish. I tried very hard not to cry as I watched the life flow from her body. Not wanting to be a burden to myself or my sister, she had herself taken to Emergency on Wednesday, May 9th without telling us as a result of her inability to walk or stand in addition to the unbearable pain. We found her at North York General where she was eventually admitted to the Geriatric ward.

For the days and weeks that followed, I would sit with Mom and we reminisced which resulted in much laughter, hugs and kisses. Mom made it quite clear from the day she was admitted to Hospital that she wanted to die therefore time with her was so much more precious.

We laughed about the yellow moped that I had when I was a teenager - my make believe motorcycle. I told my Mom stories that I had never shared before - how I would pretend that it was a race bike and try to go as fast as I could - leaning as much as possible when taking corners; trying to get my knee to touch the road. How friends and I used to ride on paths which were not created for Mopeds.... just because it was fun.

My Mom also had a few stories that I had totally forgotten. She reminded me how much trouble I had had with the Moped and how I did not get the one which I had originally wanted because it was out of stock by the time we were ready to purchase. How I refused to wait for it to be ordered because I wanted a Moped “now”. How the one that I did get required frequent maintenance and eventually became such a mechanical problem, that I could not get it to go over 20km/hour.

We chatted about how I had always wanted to get a motorcycle as soon as I got my driver’s license and how, despite not being able to find someone who could (or would) modify a motorcycle so that I could ride with 1 hand (as a result of a congenital birth defect), that this was not the reason which drove me away from the possibility of riding my own bike in my early 20s.

My Mother and Father had always frowned upon motorcycles because they feared that there was a higher risk of their child being injured. While they never forbid me to ride, I knew that it would cause them much angst and I did not want to put them through that. Whenever I rode as a passenger and told them about it, they would not want to hear about it.

As Mom and I chatted, I came to realize that I had put my desire for riding on hold because I did not want to worry or upset my parents.

My Mother once said to me that I would never know true worry as a result of never having children. While Mom was in the hospital, the sounds that I heard her make as Nurses tried to move her brought me to tears. I quickly came to understand how a Parent would feel seeing their child in distress.

I do not regret for 1 minute letting the years pass as my desire to ride was put on hold. Mom was 94 when I started riding and I did not tell her about it right away as I did not want her to worry. When I did tell her, I explained that I felt compelled to because I felt that I was not being honest with her about something which had brought so much joy into my life.

We would often joke that while her memory was not what it had been, she would never forget that I rode a motorcycle.

And she never did. But she was also proud of what I had achieved, and how I had overcome obstacles to make my dream a reality.

From Wednesday, May 9 to the day Mom passed on Thursday, May 31, my days consisted of work and spending as much time as I could at the hospital by Mom’s side. I didn’t sleep well (I actually felt like I didn’t sleep at all) and passed every day feeling more and more like a zombie. My motorcycles sat quietly in the garage. I didn’t even think about riding - it was dead to me. My band, Lefty And The Goons had a gig booked in Brampton on Saturday, May 26. I told my Mom that I would cancel it but she insisted that I not change my life as a result of her.

As guilty as I felt, I did the gig and dedicated the show to my Mom. Several friends came out including some from the Southern Cruisers who helped turn the night into a big party. I needed the distraction. On the Sunday, I awoke late in the day and Lloyd and I went on a little ride. It was the first time that I felt I could ride. It was a beautiful sunny and warm day, and I must admit that it felt great to get on Hankster 2.0 and just go nowhere in particular to clear my head until the call came.

Standing at the side of some back road somewhere, I spoke with one of Mom’s Drs to discuss the procedure which would end her life. She was so kind, and provided the details of what would happen and approximate timing. Once I hung up, I fell apart. I didn’t want to ride, I immediately returned to being a zombie.Thankfully Lloyd was with me and as he held me, he calmly and patiently brought me back to reality which allowed me to ride home.

After Mom passed, I was devastated. I didn’t expect that her wish to die would make me so miserable. Mom had told me that she felt that it would be hardest on me, and would continuously repeat “be happy for me”. I was and remain very happy for Mom but have an emptiness which I do not feel will ever be filled.

On Saturday, June 9, my band was scheduled to perform at the Ride2Reach event Kickstands Up 2018. Ride2Reach is an organization dedicated to nourishing the minds and bodies of youth who are in need. This year’s charity ride was to support the White Oaks Secondary School in Oakville by ensuring that hot lunches would be available to children in need.

Motorcycle Enhancements was the main driver behind this and did a fantastic job of planning, organizing and securing sponsors for what has become an Annual event.

Unfortunately, Mother Nature had other plans, and as a result of what was being forecasted as a very wet and miserable Saturday, the event was postponed with a future date to be determined.

Mother Nature decided to change her mind towards the end of the week, and the weekend of Saturday June 9 and Sunday June 10 turned out to be fantastic weather for riding.

On Friday, June 8, Lloyd and I met our friend (and B.R.O. member) Tim at Tim Horton’s on Highway 89 and grabbed a bite at Superburger located on the northwest corner of Highway 89 and Highway 10. The place was quite busy upon our arrival, however we were soon munching on burgers and fries which were amazing. They have a large parking lot and are biker friendly therefore if you have not had an opportunity to stop by yet, this might be a good place to add to a future route.

Across Highway 10 on the Northeast corner is Champ Burger which we will visit next time.

The next day, the 3 of us rode from Mississauga to the Midland Butter tart festival. I had never been, and sine I needed a long ride, this seemed like a perfect destination as I felt the need to see water and Lloyd and Tim felt the need to get butter tarts. A win for everybody!

Morning broke with high clouds and we rolled off shortly after 9 arriving in Midland by 11. Our ride took us on a variety of back roads which allowed me to clear my head and forget about the sadness that had been eating at me

for so many weeks.

We were fortunate to find parking very close to the main street and while the day had turned sunny, there were enough clouds to prevent the temperature from burning you alive. It was quite comfortable to walk around, checking out the many butter tart and craft vendors despite the crowd. While Lloyd and Tim purchased their butter tarts, I opted to buy vanilla fudge which I promptly ate, not wanting to wait for a time in the future to satisfy my sweet tooth.

While in Midland, we ate at The Boathouse Eatery which despite being busy, found us seating on the patio. The service was fantastic, the view amazing and the food filled our empty stomachs as we had not had breakfast prior to our ride.

We left Midland to go to Balm Beach - a perfect place

for me to sit and reflect on what had transpired over the past few weeks while gazing at calming water. From there, we took Tiny Beaches Road towards Wasaga which is a fantastic ride full of twists and turns for approximately 14

kilometers. We then headed home. Our day took us over 400 kilometers and was the therapy that I needed.

Sunday, while beautiful and sunny was very windy however we connected with some friends of ours and rode

to the Fergus for The Love Of Butter Tarts and Chocolate Festival as one can never have enough butter tarts - right Lloyd?

The event was held in the Cenre Wellington Community Sportsplex where there were vendors selling butter tarts, chocolate and crafts.

We then went to Elora where we ate the Metcalfe Restaurant. We were very fortunate to secure a table on the patio and enjoyed a great pub meal while sharing laughs and stories. What a great way to pass the day!

While the riding was fantastic, I was starting to notice a bit of an issue with my centriugal force clutch as it was becoming more difficult to get the bike into neutral.

In addition, when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear, the bike would occasionally slip into neutral. I never thought anything of it until Friday, June 15 In the late afternoon on the Friday referenced above, I went as a passenger on Lloyd’s bike to Honda in Milton to pick-up Hankster 2.0 which I had taken to be outfitted with new tires as mine were cracked. After picking up the bike, Lloyd and I rode with another couple from Georgetown to the Terra Cotta Inn for dinner. On the way, I began to have more issues with the clutch and it became apparent that this has become something which must get looked at.

While I could sometimes get into neutral every easily at other times I would have to rock the bike. The bike also felt a bit wobbly.

Lloyd and I are scheduled to go to Midland the end of this week for a Southern Cruisers bash after which we are planning to ride to Ocean City, Maryland. As of right now, I do not feel confident that Hankster 2.0 will make it without major issues so today I bring the bike to Motorcycle Enhancements and pray that this is a minor issue.

Today is Saturday, June 16 and I am waiting for CAA to pick up Hankster 2.0 as a result of my front tire being so close to flat that I cannot turn it. There is also liquid all along the inside of the tire near the rim. Now I have 2 issues. Of course I called Honda and spoke with the Service Manager but explained that I cannot get the bike to him since they cannot help me with my specific clutch. They assured me that they will look after any cost to fix the problem.

Of course I am stressed beyond belief seeing that we are

supposed to depart for our vacation in the next few days and I truly need to get away.

No doubt I will have more to share about this in my next article.

It all comes down to available time and that is something I have found recently is at a premium. There are just so many things to do while remembering to take pics and of course, write things down. Getting the word out for The Riders Mag is always a priority but can get set to the back burner easily so help is always welcome. Part of this help came from Marion Redpath of Eagle Rider Rentals and Tours Calgary. On June 3rd, Marion attended Two Wheel Sunday and not only represented Eagle Rider, but was seen handing out issues of the mag and just getting the good word out Thank you Marion, your support and dedication are much appreciated, MLH&R. So to temporarily put my riding and endeavors aside, I will be keeping this short with a small list up upcoming events here in Alberta.

The Cannonball Rides, July 2nd through the 7th, will provide riders with the option of doing multiple rides all within one week. There is a new 250 mile, 6.5 hr ride.

His friend says, “Don’t do that. There’s a computer at the drug store that can diagnose anything quicker and cheaper than a doctor. Simply put in a sample of your urine, and the computer will diagnose your problem and tell you what to do about it, and it only costs $10.”

Pete figured he had nothing to lose, so he filled a jar with urine and went to the drug store. Finding the computer, he poured the sample and deposited the $10 bucks. The computer started making some noise and various lights started flashing. After a brief pause, out popped a small slip of paper which read: *You have tennis elbow. Soak your arm in warm water and avoid heavy labour. You will heal in two weeks.* That evening while thinking how amazing this new technology was and how it would change medical science forever, he began to wonder if this computer could be fooled. He decided to give it a try.

He mixed together some tap water, a stool sample from the dog, and urine samples from his wife and daughter. To top it off, he masturbated into the concoction.

He went back to the drug store, located the computer, poured in the sample and deposited the $10 bucks. The machine made the usual noises, flashed its lights, and printed out the following analysis: * * Your tap water is too hard. Get a softener. * * Your dog has ringworm. Bathe him with anti fungal shampoo. * * Your daughter is using cocaine. Put her in a rehab clinic. * * Your wife is pregnant with twin girls. They aren’t yours. Mike has been very busy during the off season and has created a new kick ass Trike that he will introduce to everybody at Baconfest 2018 and he will be also introducing a new “Trike Class” at this year’s Harley Pulls!

The Riders Mag crew will be running the Show and Shine portion of the event down at the arena again! We’ve worked out the bugs and will be set up better this year with better signage! There will be lots of trophies and there will be category that will fit your ride!

Milwaukee-Eight Oil Pump Issues: I of III The Laws of Physics cannot be violated!

The physics principle behind a geroter oil pump is that oil cannot compress allowing the pump to create pressure and volume. However, air will compress.

Air mixed with oil in the pump will diminish oil pump effectiveness.

Why is this important? Every, Sportster 1977 to present, Twin Cam, and Milwaukee-8 uses a geroter oil pump. All other year Harley’s use a gear driven oil pump.

A geroter pump is superior to a gear pump. There is nothing wrong with the gear driven pumps. They powered Harley’s forever until modern times. A geroter pump will produce more pressure and volume than a gear driven pump. From experience, I can say that a gear driven pump will wear faster than its modern counterpart. Tolerances are very precise to maintain pressure and volume. Gears are very good at adversely modifying these tolerances if not installed and maintained correctly. Dirty oil is an enemy of any engine but more ably assists gears in destructive abrasion.

The M-8 engine oil feed and distribution throughout the engine occurs by way of the cam support plate.

Located inside the gear-case on the engine’s lower right side, the cam support plate, has three main functions; support the outboard end of the camshaft, hence its name, the aforementioned oil circulation, and supporting the internal oil pump on the plate’s inboard side below the camshaft. Oil return accomplishes by gravity-drain oil flow from above, where it is picked up (scavenged) by the oil pump scavenge lobe (port) for removal to the oil return geroters.

The oil pump (oil cooled models; 62400121, 62400143, and 62400178: water cooled models: 62400124, 62400146, and 62400182), positions behind and bolts to the cam support plate. The rotating flywheel pinion shaft extends through the center of the oil pump, engaging its feed and return inner geroters, powering the oil pump’s independent dual geroter sets. The return geroters are much thicker (about 50%) than the feed geroter set. The purpose is to remove a greater amount of oil from the crankcase. Why? Excess oil left behind will cause flywheel drag as it sloshes through the residue oil and may encourage oil to become gaseous, traveling with the air as it surges through the engine.

Oil flows into the feed side between the inner and outer geroters, becoming trapped. As the pump geroters rotate on the pinion shaft, the oil entrance port (hole) is blocked. The non-compressible oil then, squeezes into a progressively smaller and tighter space, creating pressure as it forcefully exits the pump through a newly exposed exit port.

As noted there is a different series of oil pumps for oil cooled and water cooled Milwaukee Eight’s.

Interestingly, each has three different oil pumps. Why? This indicates a problem(s) on such a new engine.

The 1999-2006 Twin Cam geroter nubs are 12/13; the outer geroter has 13 inward-facing nubs that interact with the 12 outward facing nubs of the inside geroter. The two rotors move eclectically, relative to

each other creating and closing space between the two.

The 2007-2017 Twin Cam pumps 10% more feed oil plus the pump scavenges 23% more return oil with a a 10/11 nub arrangement, which gives it increased pressure capacity.

Even back in 2007, H-D was increasing scavenge (return) capacity in attempting to control blowby (venting) of oil laden mist to the outside atmosphere. The M-8 continues use of the 10/11 nub sizing arrangement but overall rotor sizes increase in area to create more volume.

The late-Twin Cam oil pumps worked fine; so, why is an increase in M-8 oil volume necessary? Perhaps more return (sumping, scavenging) oil is required to lessen oil blowby. Blowby, venting, and oil carryover are terms used to describe transferring oilified air going somewhere not intended. So, where does this polluted air blow by or carry over to? Since 1992, there have been progressively improved breather (venting) mechanisms in each head to cleanse oil molecules from air before allowing the air to vent outside of the engine into the fuel injection (EFI) breather.

The engine then sucks and ingests this air through the EFI throttle body, into the combustion chamber to re-burn it to get rid of any remaining pollutants.

An engine must breathe in and out because the pistons, which descend together on a Harley-Davidson during the engine’s intake and power strokes displaces much air.

The air must go somewhere, so it turbulently exits the bottom end compartment into the right side gear-case compartment and up the pushrod tunnels into the heads where pressurized air vents to the outside world. The ascending pistons (compression and power strokes) create a semi-vacuum below as there is not enough remaining air to fill the rapidly increasing bottom end space. Therefore, the engine must breathe in air from the outside world.

The cycles of ascending and descending pistons happens thousands of times every minute (rpm).

Why not have one piston ascending while the other descends equalizing this turbulent transferring of air? Well, this would resolve the problem of Milwaukee-8 engine sumping/braking through the reduction of oilified air exiting the engine. Yes, I feel the puzzle can be resolved through air transfer reduction!

However, this problem described by H-D (Service Bulletin M1450, 2017-10-24), as “when an excessive amount of oil is suspended in the crankcase and the flywheel must travel through the oil, resulting in a loss of power or a high degree of engine braking and The Rider’s Mag - Page 37

potential engine component damage with extended use under these conditions.”

I think this is primarily a venting issue not an oil pump one. Simply put, the oil pump cannot pump air and excess air is pressurized to enter the pump in the form of an oilified mist. Compressing air causes cavitation, reducing oil pump pressure and thus effectiveness. Oil molecules impregnates this fast transferring air in and out of the bottom end compartment. It is a violent world inside an engine.

On Twin Cams and Evolution motorcycles, the head breathers are sometimes overwhelmed and fail to separate the oil from the exiting air. Sometimes this oil vapor in the venting air liquefies and deposits into the air breather to drain out of it onto the engine’s side. This is blowby resulting from vented gases.

This is certainly annoying to the consumer but becomes huge no-no for CARB (California Air Resources Board) and the stringent Euro 4 emissions dictates that came into force last year. The EPA may be relaxing its emission requirements but other countries are increasing theirs. Again, Europe is a motorcycling culture with the largest population of biking consumers. H-D cannot depend solely on U.S. sales for success.

The Milwaukee Eight is not allowed to have oil blowby out the breather. This presents big problems for an antiquated design that cannot be changed too much because bikers have a love affair for the traditional H-D engine configuration. So, did the Milwaukee-8 attempt to control blowby by restricting the breather apparatus thus creating the situation of sumping and engine braking?

I will further discuss the symptoms, causes, and solutions to the new Milwaukee-Eight sumping and engine braking problems next month.

Riding With Momma

Hello from Sunny Medicine Hat, AB. Riding season is in full force here in Alberta, rides, backyard fires and poker runs. Momma lives for this time of year. Nothing better than getting on Bella and heading out on the highway to places unknown.

I had a chance to attend a poker run being held in my old stomping grounds in Brooks, AB. I got to see some friends who I went to school with and meet so many new friends. The one person I met has left such a profound impact on my life, and that is Bailey.

Bailey’s Ride June 2nd was the 5th Annual Bailey’s Ride, a ride to bring awareness to Children with Arthritis. When you think about arthritis and joint pain, you probably associate the problem primarily with the elderly. JA (Juvenile Arthritis) or pediatric rheumatic disease is not a stand-alone disease; it refers to several problems related to autoimmune disorders of inflammation that can affect children under 16. JA can do more than cause joint discomfort in young people, the problem can affect the eyes, skin (Juvenile dermatomyositis) and digestive system as well. The National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases notes that JA often targets the knees and feet, creating a telltale limp in junior’s walk.

While many diseases are passed down from one parent or both, it’s “very rare” for more than one family member to have JA. Since JA is largely an autoimmune disease (when your immune system mistakenly attacks healthy cells), families with a history of autoimmune diseases may be at higher risk. Juvenile arthritis can make it hard to take part in social and after-school activities, and it can make schoolwork more difficult.

Bailey now 21 years old was diagnosed with JA when he was 7 years old. Along with this diagnosis it is key to note that with this type of disease many other diseased go hand in hand. Bailey also suffers from: 1. Scoliosis, an abnormal sideways curvature of the spine. It begins as a postural distortion and may become a permanent deformity, and interferes with the lungs, heart and many other vital organs.

2. Osteoarthritis (OA), a type of joint disease that results from breakdown of joint cartilage and underlying bone.

3. Rheumatoid arthritis, an autoimmune disorder that affects the joints and causes painful swelling, which can lead to bone erosion and joint deformity. It can affect the lungs by harming the tissue around them and causing interstitial lung disease, a severe complication that results from the inflammation and scarring of lung tissue.

As you can see from the picture Bailey is very small in stature, but what he lacks there he more than makes up for in personality, endurance and wit. Once a year Bailey sees a Hand Surgeon, Hip Surgeon & Rheumatologist who monitor his disease. Right now, Bailey is seeing a Special Dentist as he has arthritis in his jaw and one of his nasal passages has completely closed due to this debilitating disease.

Bailey is quite the young man, an honorary member of the Sanctioned Souls RC out of Brooks, proudly wears his cut to this run every year. Escorted in a Yellow Camaro with a smile beaming from ear to ear led the parade of bikes that traveled through the Town of Brooks, over to Duchess via the #1 Highway and back roads, on to Patricia and back to the old Rodeo Grounds on the outskirts of Brooks.

Bailey’s Parents Amanda Barnes and Neal Kopan plan this event every year trying to make people aware of what Bailey has gone through since he was 7. I asked Bailey why he didn’t ride on the back of a bike for the run, he simply said “because my disease doesn’t allow me to do that”. I couldn’t imagine not being able to do something as simple as sit on a bike, but this young man knows his limitations.

When we got back to the Rodeo Grounds a meal was supplied for all the riders, donated by the volunteers as well as the community of Brooks. Amanda told me that she has about 11 volunteers that help with registration, cooking and just making sure that the riders have everything that they need.

After supper we enjoyed a biker rodeo with Trophies for the Slow Race, Barrel push, Ring toss and Dirt Drags. There was even a Hard Luck trophy presented to Dan Wardrop for his bike overheating after only 4 hrs on his motor. Bailey presented all the trophies and even got to pick out his favorite bike. He picked Neal Kopan’s bike, some say it was fixed but others know that it was Bailey’s choice…lol. Made his mom very happy.

With just over 35 bikes in attendance Bailey’s Ride was able to raise $ . What a wonderful way to bring awareness to this horrible disease while making this young man feel part of the Biker Community if just for the day. Please keep Bailey in your prayers and always remember, no matter how hard a person may think they have it, there’s always someone out there that has it worse and chooses not to whine about it.

Biker Freedom and Fairness As everyone has heard on April 12, 2018 a ministerial order amending the Traffic Safety Act took effect, exempting bonafide members of the Sikh religion from wearing a helmet in Alberta. This is the third province in Canada to amend the Traffic Safety Act. In 1999 British Columbia amended the act to allow Sikhs to be exempt from wearing a helmet with Manitoba following suit in 2000.

Sikhs petitioned the Ontario Government to allow them the right to not wear a helmet stating “Freedom of Religion”, but the Liberal Party of Ontario under Premier Kathleen Wynne remains adamant on its stand to deny the Sikhs this right. The Premier further stated that it is illegal to ride a motorcycle without a helmet and that the Sikh community must adhere to the helmet law.

I don’t know about you but this recent amendment in Alberta infuriates me. I immigrated to Canada in 1966 and was not afforded any special rights. Our family had to adhere to the laws of Canada and were given no special treatment.

I sit and watch all of the SPECIAL provisions being made to our New Canadians and it really makes me wonder. I know that I am not the only person upset about these so called “Religious Freedoms” that are blurring our Canadian Charter of Rights.

A close friend of mine Troy Fandrick of Medicine Hat, AB has taken up the fight for our God Given Canadian Rights and states “The current legislation in regards to wearing motorcycle helmets is being unfairly applied to the riders in this province”.

Troy is currently campaigning to have the helmet exemption that has been granted to the Sikh community to be applied to all riders in the province as guaranteed by the Canadian Charter of Rights #15 in the Canadian Charter of Rights States ““Every Individual is equal before and under the law and has the right to the equal protection and equal benefits of the law without discrimination and, in particular, without discrimination based on RACE, NATIONAL or ETHNIC origin, COLOR, RELIGION, SEX, AGE or MENTAL or PHYSICAL DISABILITY”. There it is in Black and White.

Troy has received 4 helmet tickets since May 9th and is hoping to receive a court date where he can stand up for his rights and the rights of every Canadian. He’s not fighting for the right to not wear a helmet, he’s fighting for equal rights. If one religious group is exempt than everyone should be exempt, no one religion should be treated any different than anyone else. It’s a matter of principle.

I plan on keeping up to date on this topic and sharing with everyone the outcome.

Next issue I hope to have an interview with Troy. He’s well educated on the law and had done his research. He carries the Canadian Charter of Rights in his Saddlebag and knows the correct things to say. Each officer has treated him fairly and state that they are only doing their job. For so long we have stood by and watched our government make concessions for minorities, it’s about time the Majority stood up and had a voice!!

The boyfriend couldn’t keep his eyes on the road, and soon went off into the woods, crashing the car. She was flung clear of the wreckage, but he was stuck between the steering wheel and the seat. “Go and get help” he cried “But I can’t, I’m naked and my clothes are gone” said the girl. “Take my shoe and cover your fanny, go quickly.”

She came up on a service station and said to the bloke behind the counter “Quick help me, my boyfriend’s stuck” The bloke looked at the shoe and said “There’s f*ck all I can do lady, he’s in too far” Two men from Texas were sitting at a bar, when a young lady nearby began to choke on a hamburger. She gasped and gagged, and one Texan turned to the other and said, “That little gal is havin’ a bad time. I’m gonna go over there and help.”

He ran over to the young lady “Kin ya breathe?” Still gasping, she shook her head no.

He yanked up her skirt, pulled down her panties and licked her butt. The young woman was so shocked that she coughed up the piece of hamburger and began to breathe on her own.

The Texan sat back down with his friend and said, “Ya know, it’s sure amazin’ how that hind-lick maneuver always works.”

A lady in her late 40′s went to a plastic surgeon for a face lift. The doctor told her of a new procedure called “the dial” where a small dial is planted on the back of the head and can be turned to tighten up the skin to produce the effect of a facelift. Of course, the woman wanted “the dial”, had the surgery and all was well.

Fifteen years later the woman went back to the surgeon. “All these years everything had been working just fine.”, she started, “I’ve had to turn the dial on lots of occasions and I’ve loved the results. But I seemed to have developed two annoying problems with my face.”

“Go on” the doctor said.

“First of all”, she continued, “I’ve got these terrible bags under my eyes and the dial won’t get rid of them.”

The doctor looked at her and said, “I’m afraid those aren’t bags, those are your breasts.”

She replied, “Ah, I guess that explains the goatee.

This guy has always dreamed of owning a Harley Davidson. One day he has finally saved up enough money so he goes down to the dealer. After he picks out the perfect bike, the dealer tells him about an old biker trick that will keep the chrome on his new bike free from rust.

The dealer tells him that all he has to do is to keep a jar of Vaseline handy and put it on the chrome before it rains, and everything will be fine. He happily pays for the bike and leaves.

A few months later, the young man meets a woman and falls in love. She asks him to come home and meet her parents over dinner. He readily accepts and the date is set. At the appointed time, he picks her up on his Harley and they ride to her parents house. Before they go in, she tells him that they have a family tradition that whoever speaks first after dinner must do the dishes.

After a delicious dinner everyone sits in silence waiting for the first person to break the silence and get stuck doing the dishes. After a long fifteen minutes, the young man decides to speed things up, so he reaches over and kisses his woman in front of her family. No one says a word. Emboldened, he slips his hand under her blouse and fondles her breasts. Still no one says a word. Finally, he throws her on the table and has sex with her in front of everyone. No one says a word.

Now he is getting desperate, so he grabs her mother and throws HER on the table. They have even wilder sex. Still no one speaks. By now he is thinking what to do next when he hears thunder in the distance. His first thought is to protect the chrome on his Harley, so he gets his jacket, reaches in his pocket and pulls out his jar of Vaseline.

And the father says “Okay dammit, I’ll do the dishes!”

Two hunters are out in the woods when one of them collapses. He’s not breathing and his eyes are glazed, so his friend calls 911. “My friend is dead! What should I do?” The operator replies, “Calm down, sir. I can help.

First make sure that he’s dead.” There’s a silence, then a loud bang. Back on the phone, the guy says, “OK, now what?” continued...

The Keady Market. Keady is a tiny village that consists of a single four-way-stop intersection (no traffic lights, just stop signs), a handful of houses, an old stone church, and a gelato joint. Just 15 min from Owen sound every Tuesdays Produce vendors stack their magnificent heaps of corn on the cob, baskets of fresh peaches, buckets of round tomatoes, and bushels of mini cucumbers and beets for eager customers to purchase.

I absolutely love seeing all this local, seasonal produce that is such a treat here. It’s the only time of year when the locally-grown fruits and veggies offer just as much, if not more, variety than the imported grocery store options.

Every summer since 2010 Olympia Village has hosted the “Camping for a Cure - Think Pink fundraising event for Breast Cancer research. This is their biggest event of the year which includes a giant classic car, truck and motorcycle Show and Shine, lots of live entertainment, a kid’s dance, an evening adult’s dance, prize draws throughout the day and lots of food and fun. Over the 9 years, they have raised over $127,000.00 for Breast Cancer Research. Think Pink is looking to bring more bikes in the show next year The Rider’s Mag - Page 47

Before I start, I must apologize to all of my loyal followers for the missing June issue of the Mag. Somehow, although our records show that all the Mags where sent out to the distributors by Canada Post, my 600 issues are somewhere in limbo, I didn’t receive even 1 copy! Hopefully that will not hold true for this issue! This also reminds me that my article will be missing from the August issue as I will be in Ontario for a family reunion and also Friday 13th in Port Dover, it’s time to put some miles on my bike. The Boss and I will be leaving on the 4th of July and back at home base around the 20th. Come on good weather! Maybe see you there!

Next, Adam (Darksiders M.C.) informed me of some events happening in Bathurst, but I couldn’t make either due to the meds that I am on screwed up my night vision, making it impossible for me to ride after dark. (hopefully a temporary problem!)

But being the great guy he is Adam covered them for me , so I’ll forward his recollection: On May 26th the Darksiders North Shore had a memorial run for a fallen Brother Frank. It was a wicked turnout, having the ride on a route that Frank travelled every day for work ending at the Sugar Shack, about 50km outside of Bathurst. After a few ‘pops’ and a bite to eat, the group had a moment of silence circled around Franks bike. His son Wes is now the proud owner of his father’s bike and is now prospecting for the Darksiders. After the moment of silence, a few ‘smokes’ were passed around I Frank’s honor. Frank’s wife and daughters were also on the ride and have been staying close to the Club during these difficult times.

A week later, the Darksiders had a raffle for children in Frank’s honor, they collected donations and

made enough to buy 12 bikes for needy children in the community. The kids had cupcakes and lemonade, and now with a sugar rush and a new bike the kids had nothing but smiles!

Thanks for the report and pictures Adam, and I’m sure there where a lot of smiles on the Clubs faces too!

Especially after what Bathurst’s mayor said about your ‘motorcycle gang’!!! Ride free Frank GBNF. Meanwhile early in July, my club brother John Lacroix and his lady Diana (NBS Riders) came out to the ranch for a visit from Port Colborne.

The weather was shitty but we were able to get a few rides in, between the rain and my ongoing hospital and doctor appointments, before he travelled on to P.E.I. and Nova Scotia to ride the Cabot Trail. He returned to our place on the 18th for a night and off again to do the Gaspe Bay peninsula before heading back to Port.

That’s about it for this month and I think it was the words by the ‘Beach Boys’… see you in September! Ride safe out there and be well.

Well here we are, the July issue of the riders mag I hope you are all having an awesome riding season!

So far, mine has been a rough one at the beginning of the season my bike was down due to repairs! I finally got it back and now it’s gone! I was in a bad motorcycle accident may 17th in Hanover Ontario and my bike was a total loss!

Now I’m in the hunt for a new one and hopefully I will be on the road soon.

So if I don’t make it to your event it’s because I have no bike! That means no transportation as my bike was my only mode of transportation. I will do my best to get out as much as I can and as I sit here and type this I am just getting the news that we have lost another rider in an unfortunate accident R.I.P Tamara Maine you will be missed.

Bacchus MC Hamilton Show and Shine Since I don’t have a bike at the moment I had to get a drive down to the show and shine. I got picked up at 10:45 a.m. And headed down to the CH where the show and shine was taking place, arriving at 11:15 a.m. After a brief stop at the variety store I talked with Carl and some of the other members and strikers before making my way down the street.

The whole street was filling up quickly with bikes of every make and model. As I headed down the street a pack of bikes rolled in as members of the Iron Hawgs MC and Ace’s and Eights MC rolled in for the event! I stopped to say hi as they were getting off their bikes.

I made my way down the street again and I stopped to say hello to Dave and his lady Staccylynn and chatted with them for a bit before moving on it is always good to see you both and talk with you.

The next crew to roll in were the Red Rum MC and I talked with Crusty, Grub and the other members for a bit before moving along. I stopped to talk with Kevin from

Jackson and Dave Jackson also always good to talk with you all and catch up. As I made my way around the show I talked with Randy and Sharon, Hank, Mike and Lou, Helio and Sandy, Billy Donald, Mac, Ron, Kevin, Tim Soules, Kevin and Bruce and Darren Campbell, Bad Bob and many more that I have probably missed it is always good to see all of you and meet new people along the way. It was time for the awards as it was getting hot out so the show ended earlier than expected.

This year’s charity was Million Dollar Smiles and I believe they raised 1700.00 and change, Million Dollar Smiles is a non-profit organization that provides support for families with Children facing adversity from life threatening illnesses and the founder’s name is Anna Lopes.

Jessie Lee’s Open -Road Experience

Happy summertime! Are you all rolling in the wind? If not, you should be ashamed of yourself!

I’ve been in the Rocky Mountains for several days now playing on the hilltops with my Jeep, Indian, and Husqvarna. Ever notice how the mountains make everything better? I’m not sure if it’s just the altitude and alcohol going to the brain or if they really are magical?!

The scenery alone is enough to take your breath away and then if you add in the self satisfaction of reaching a 13,000 foot peak...lets just say life is good! Driving a Jeep to a summit is great but rolling up through the rocks and trees on 2 wheels is really something to be proud of because not just anyone has the power to do so. Have you ever sat and thought how lucky you might be to possess the skills of riding a motorcycle? I can guarantee it was the best thing my dad taught me. There is a feeling of self confidence and power that comes from operating a several hundred pound chunk of metal full of flammable fluid! Not to mention the places it allows you to go and things you can see without looking through a window or being surrounded by a roof and doors. Sorry didn’t mean to go all sentimental on you folks, I just think it is wonderful how riding motorcycles can open up whole new worlds for people. Maybe I should start a wind therapy clinic, what do you think?

Ok back to reality here...The mountain behind the town here is Mount Kendall, 13,066 feet to the top and I have been there, don’t be too jealous, I mean I felt a lot like I was hit by a bus by the time I got back to the bottom but the views were certainly worth it! Some fly, some drive, and the rest of us ride!

high lake at the end of the long rugged road. Talk about peaceful, not a sound in the world or civilization in sight, just me my bike and the top of the world!

There are a few birds chirping about and Marmots running between the rocks and a whole lot of fresh air. Crazy to think of dirt biking as relaxing but when you look out from the top of a massive hillside knowing you just muscled your way to the sky all the world is right! It is amazing how massive these pieces of land are and following the roads around them doesn’t quite capture the reality like sitting on top of them.

There is a little terrain for everyone in the mountains, grass tundras,

rocky monuments weathered by time, waterfalls, paved roads, gravel roads, dirt roads, rivers, lakes, and happiness.

If you prefer the sandy beach and

ocean obviously you shall disagree, hey, to each their own!

The adrenaline rush of twisting the throttle and feeling my bike pull me up a steep rock filled incline, using my legs and arms as shocks, doing my damndest to keep a good line and avoid launching off a cliff is hands down more satisfying than sunshine and sand. But that’s just me.

Coming back down the mountains is equally as wonderful and challenging. There must be the right amount of braking and engine power and man oh man just wait until that rear wheel locks up and sends the ass end sliding out to one side, oh the excitement! Then there is the never ending question, Do I sit or do I stand? Do I need a leg out on this corner or can I just roll through? Was that giant rock laying there before? ….No wonder I’m on cloud nine all my brain is doing is multitasking there is no time to actually soak in what I’m actually doing only time to enjoy the ride! The only thing I have to bitch about is not enough time on the descent to look at the view.

Well Folks this is going to be a shorter article but not because I don’t have lots to tell you! There is so much going on in the Eastern Ontario region that I need some downtime to park by butt and put it to paper as they say so for this one time, I will just touch on a few updates on some very important events coming up.

I will catch up on more details in next month’s issue of the Mag. Since last month I participated in the Bondslave MC Freedom Run that took place May 19th! While under somewhat overcast skies we had a great time, including the opportunity to meet up with some of the club’s members who came up from the States to participate and to show solidarity with the Ottawa Chapter.

Members of The Celtic Brotherhood served up their Free Breakfast to all riders and upon return everyone was treated to a homemade spaghetti dinner. The Bondslave MC and their president, Church, have made every effort to get out and support other club’s rides and events so far this season! As mentioned in my last article they have taken up the responsibility of greeting riders who drop by the motorcycle portion of cruise night at Rideau Carleton Raceway on Wednesdays and where you can stop by and perhaps pick up a hard copy of the Mag.

On May 27th, even with the weather forecast predicting overcast skies and lots of potential of rain showers, several hundred motorcycle riders took part in the 2804 Dice Run held in the town of Casselman about 45 minutes east of Ottawa. I consider this event one of the The Rider’s Mag - Page 58

true treasures of eastern Ontario motorcycle calendar and each year this event just keeps getting better and better.

As mentioned in past articles the Dice Run was the brain child of a couple of local bikers Denis Renaud and Michel Dupuis who decided to help out the local army cadet corps by raising money and at the same time improve the image of motorcycle riders within their community and their efforts have paid off.

Sadly Denis passed away much too young and starting last year the town and the organizers dedicated the event in Denis’s name! Starting last year TCB began providing a Free Breakfast and putting on demonstrations of the Busted Bucket Challenge in honor of his dedication to the biker community, support of The Rides Mag and TCB. The weather was warm and so the overcast skies made the ride just that much more comfortable!

By the time e v e r y o n e returned for lunch and the

after ride activities the clouds had cleared and the sun was out. I couldn’t help but think to myself that Denis was up there in Valhalla, smiling down on all of us and saying “not while this event is taking place”.

Often I have more than one event on the same day but I always devote to this because it is a awesome time and only gets better.

They had a dunk tank to raise money and while

there were lots of volunteers willing to get soaked for a good cause, a few people wanted Michel Dupuis to get up on the seat. He wasn’t really keen on the idea of getting wet and so he said that he would do it if they could raise $500.00 and sure

as the sun rises in the east the money was collected in no time and Michel being a man of his word parked his butt on the bench and got dumped. If you can, be sure and make the effort to head out and

participate in the 2804 Dice Run next year.

June 3rd I took part in the National Memorial Ride which takes place in Ottawa and departed from the Canadian War Museum and ended up at the military memorial in Beechwood Cemetery! It took place the day after the Heroes Highway Ride & Rally in Trenton. Some riders participated in both which would have meant putting on some serious

kms. over a 24hr period.

It is hard not to be impressed by the view from the museum’s Vimy parking lot with a full vista of Parliament Hill, the Ottawa skyline and the Ottawa River!

While waiting for the ride to head out and in

some way brought home one more time why we do what we do to protect our country and our values.

When we arrived we met up with Roger Levert aka Animal who is the actual founder of the original National Memorial Ride back around 8 to 10 yrs. ago which started out at the Navan fairgrounds. Back a couple of years ago Roger had some life threatening health issues and it was great to see him recovered enough to take part in this year’s ride.

I suppose the highlight of the day was seeing my old friend Trapper who made it up from down east and we had a few moments to chat and bear hug the hell out of each other before he had the well deserved honor of leading all the riders out of the Vimy lot and on their way to Beechwood.

While Trapper and I go back several decades my favorite Tra p p e r story is the one where 24 yrs ago while in a coma, Trapper left a book by Ian Fleming for me to read when I woke up! That re m i n d e d me that brotherhood is more than a word and some bonds just never get broken.

For those of you who don’t already know, the Simple Men MC from Snake River have moved their clubhouse to the village of Foresters Falls in the heart of white water rafting country about an hour and a bit west of Ottawa on highway 417 near Cobden and they now have a facility where they can hold more community fundraisers!

They were barely settled in when they built some much needed benches for the baseball teams playing in the nearby sports field. While they don’t have the space to hold their annual labor day weekend rodeo they are organizing several rides from Ottawa and other venues! So come up and enjoy music and festivities in and around the clubhouse including their famous pulled pork dinner! So this year, everything will be the same except for the rodeo The Rider’s Mag - Page 59

that will return in 2019.

One of the rides out of the Ottawa area to head up to party will be departing from Johnny Racine’s motorcycle repair shop, Canadian Gears!

So look for the ads by my columns over the next several issues for more information of this event and continue your support of the Simple Men MC. Two other events I want to mention are the Break The Chain Ride and Show & Shine which is also taking place at Canadian Gears in Carlton Place on July 7th in support of Teen Challenge Canada! This a great program which helps young people who are dealing with addiction problems! So why not come by and help to make a difference and at the same time support Johnny Racine and his shop.

The other event which is very close to home to me is the Ride for Autism Ottawa taking place on July 14th and for further info just look for the ad by this column and please make the effort to participate because there are so many families that are touched by autism and early diagnosis can make a world of difference to a child in getting the necessary help and training to have a full and rich life.

One other thing that I want to ask all of the readers and supporters of The Riders Mag, there are over half a million Brain Injury Survivors in the province of Ontario alone! While many of them are bikers, but even if they weren’t, they are our family members, our friends, our neighbors and people we work with and they need your support for the “Invisible” Injury so please contact your local Brain Injury Association and help out whether by donating or in some other way!
