AL AIN ACADEMY GOES GLOBAL

Al Ain Academy, one of the UAE’s highest rated British schools, recently celebrated an incredibly memorable International Day, including a drumming performance from the cast of The Lion King.

Upon their arrival, students, parents, and guests were welcomed into the school via a red-carpet walkway, with the energy and excitement of the day instantly recognised and shared. Though the pandemic seems a long time ago now, this year was the first chance the school had to create an event that welcomed the whole community and gave a full representation of the 30+ nationalities of staff and children who collectively, are the AAA family. The day included an array of country stalls, a truly international set of live performances, live cooking stations and a slightly hidden ice cream van that the pupils soon uncovered!

Every stall visited, allowed children to learn a little about each country, have a go at a popular activity originally created theresuch as the much enjoyed ‘chopstick challenge’- see and ask about the clothing worn and taste test one of the many food items available.

Performances kicked off with the whole primary school singing (and playing) Fanga Alafia together. Leading and coordinating hundreds of children aged 3-11 to all sing and walk in the same direction at one time is no small task. But it is safe to say that as well as having the cute factor, they performed brilliantly!

A special mention must go to the young lady who sang Wavin’ Flag as a solo in front of a crowd of over 1500 people and the teachers who volunteered to perform and show their many talents. The Egyptian Whirling Dervish brought the wow factor and the African Drumming group, usually found performing in The Lion King, was a special part of the day that gave students the chance to join the stage and perform with them.

Al Ain Academy has recently had a pupil’s A-level scores confirmed as the highest in the world; pupils breaking Guinness World Records and been awarded the highest graded school in Al Ain for British Schools Overseas (BSO), it is fair to say Al Ain Academy is conquering Al Ain, the world and beyond!

Give a toy this Ramadan

Landmark Leisure, the entertainment division of Landmark Group, operator of family entertainment centers, announces the ‘Share the Joy, Give a Toy’ campaign during the Holy month of Ramadan after a phenomenal response to the campaign was received last year during the same period. All the toy donations received during this campaign will be sent to children in need in association with Emirates Red Crescent.

The region’s favorite family entertainment centers will have designated boxes at Fun City, Fun Ville, Fun Block, Fun Works, and Tridom stores. The toys gathered as a part of this campaign will be given to children in need.

The community awareness initiative was introduced by Landmark Leisure across the Fun City, Fun Block, Fun Ville, Fun Works, and Tridom stores last year where over 8500 toys found a new home.

The firing of these Ramadan cannons is a time-honoured tradition that dates back to the 1960s in the UAE. Each day a single shot is fired from each cannon to mark the end of the daily fast.

Cannons were used as a way to signal the end of the daily fast for people who lived in areas where they could not hear the call to prayer, as they can be heard up to 10km from where they are fired.

This really is a special tradition and well worth the visit. Canon›s are fired daily and are located at Jahili Fort and nera the wedding hall in Zakher.

Dubai Opera to Host Iftar in Honour of the Holy Month of Ramadan

Dubai Opera, the definitive destination for entertainment in the heart of Dubai, has announced on-site Iftar in honour of the Holy Month of Ramadan.

Blueberry Pineapple Galaxy Smoothie

Ingredients:

• 1 cup of frozen DOLE® Blueberries

• 2 cups of DOLE® Sweetio bananas, frozen, sliced, divided

• 1/2 cup plus 2 tbsp of unsweetened almond vanilla almond milk, divided

• 1 cup frozen DOLE® Tropical Gold Pineapple Chunks

• 1/2 cup vanilla Greek yogurt

• 1 tbsp of unsweetened shredded coconut

Instructions

1. Combine blueberries, 1 cup banana slices, 1/2 cup almond milk in blender. Cover; blend until smooth, scraping down sides if necessary. Transfer mixture to a bowl and clean blender.

2. Combine pineapple, remaining 1 cup banana slices, yogurt, coconut, and 2 tbsp milk in blender. Cover; blend until smooth, scraping down sides if necessary.

3. Layer smoothie mixtures by spooning blue mixture into glasses. Spoon yellow mixture on top and follow with another layer of blue mixture. Enjoy!

TIP: Use a knife or small spatula to swirl the blue and yellow layers.

Pineapple Pulao

Ingredients:

• 1/2 cup (100g) basmati rice

• 1-1/4 cups DOLE® 100% Pineapple Juice

• 1 cup (200g) DOLE® Pineapple Fruit Bowls

• DOLE® Tropical Gold Pineapple Slices (for toppings)

• 1 tbsp olive oil

• A pinch of saffron soaked in 1 tbsp milk

• 1/8 cup cashew nuts or skinless almonds and a few cashew nuts, for garnish.

Instructions

1. Drain off the juice from the DOLE® Pineapple Fruit Bowls into a separate bowl and chop the fruit. Transfer the pineapple to a saucepan and add approx. 1/4 cup of water and cook till the pieces soften. Turn off the heat and keep aside.

2. Wash the rice but do not soak it. Soak the saffron in a little warm milk and keep aside.

3. Grind the cashew nuts to a fine paste using a little water. For garnishing, fry the remaining cashew nuts in some olive oil and keep aside.

4. Heat half the olive oil in a heavy based pan and fry the washed rice for 2-3 minutes. Then add the DOLE® 100% Pineapple Juice and a pinch of salt. Bring the mixture to a rolling boil. Cover the pan, reduce the heat to simmer and let the rice cook for 5 minutes. Then turn off the heat and let the rice cook for another 15 minutes.

5. When the rice is done, add the cooked pineapple and its juice and mix well. Add the cashew nut paste and saffron milk and mix again. Cover the pan and cook on a low heat for 2-3 minutes. Add the remaining olive oil and let the rice absorb it all. Turn off the heat.

6. Garnish with the fried cashew nuts and serve hot and enjoy!

Refreshing Pineapple Mocktail

Ingredients:

• 10 fresh mint leaves, plus more for garnish

• 1 packet stevia, for garnish

• 1/4 cup DOLE® 100% Pineapple Juice

• 1 cup ( 200 g) DOLE® Tropical Gold Pineapple Slices, cut into chunks

• 1 lime, juiced

• 1/2 cup club soda

Instructions

1. In a bowl, muddle pineapple chunks with the mint leaves.

2. Add the DOLE® 100% Pineapple Juice, lime juice, ice and shake vigorously for 15 seconds.

3. Strain into a tall glass filled with ice and top with club soda.

4. Garnish with a sprig of mint. Rehydrate & Enjoy!

Tropical Fruit Pops

Ingredients:

• DOLE® Pineapple Fruit Bowl

• DOLE® Frozen Triple Berry

• DOLE® Tropical Fruit Bowl

For liquids

• DOLE® Jaya Pineapple & Mango Juice

Instructions

1. Gather all the ingredients. Adjust the amount of fruits according to your liking.

2. Fill the molds/cups with the fruit.

3. Pour DOLE® Jaya Pineapple & Mango Juice to fill the molds/ cups.

4. Place molds/ cups in the freeze for a few hours until firm.

5. To remove the popsicles from the molds/ cups, run under hot water until they are easily released. Refresh & enjoy!

Grilled Tropical Pineapple Chicken

Ingredients:

• 1 can (567g) DOLE® Tropical Gold Pineapple Slices

• 900 g boneless chicken breasts (or thighs)

• 1/4 cup DOLE® 100% Pineapple Juice

Instructions

For the Marinade:

• 1/2 cup coconut aminos

• 1/4 cup tomato paste

• 4-6 soft dried dates

• 2 tsp garlic powder

• 2 tsp chili powder

• 1 tsp smoked paprika

1. To make the marinade, place all of the ingredients in a blender or food processor and run continuously to combine all the ingredients until smooth. Stop to scrape sides down as needed and restart.

2. Place chicken in a shallow bowl or dish and pour the marinade over. Toss to coat. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes or up to 24 hours.

3. Heat your grill to high heat (about 260°C). Add the chicken and DOLE® Tropical Gold Pineapple Slices to grill. Flip the chicken and baste with any remaining marinade until cooked through, for about 5 - 6 minutes on each side depending on the size of the chicken. Flip the pineapple and grill to your liking.

4. Serve chicken and pineapple with your desired side, over rice and/or greens. Enjoy!

Nutritious Fruit Chaat

Ingredients:

• DOLE® Diced Peaches Fruit Bowls

Instructions

The Green Planet Dubai welcomes the Region’s first two echidnas this Easter

The Green planet to host Easter Egg Hunt for children and adults

Guests are in for an eggcellent Easter treat as the region’s first male and female short-beaked echidnas are joining The Green Planet Family on 5th April.

Scientifically known as Tachyglossus aculeatus, the egg-laying Echidnas are ready to be introduced to the Green Planet’s guests in a special meet and greet along with a Biologist Talk from 5th April to 11th April. Guests can take a photo of a lifetime as they meet one of the only two egg-laying mammals in the world and learn about their behaviour, diet, habitat and many other fun facts with the Green Planet’s expert biologist.

Sara Stevens, Head of Operations and Curator at The Green Planet, said “We are thrilled to welcome two adorable echidnas to the region for the very first time. Typically found in Australia, including Tasmania, these fascinating creatures are a unique addition to the bio-dome. There’s so much to learn about these species and we’re glad to offer our guests an educational experience while

spreading more local awareness of the species and enhancing support for conservation.”

Families can also look forward to themed activities as they meet the echidnas. The entire biodome is going to be decorated with large colourful Easter eggs from 5th April to 30th April for an eggciting Easter Egg hunt. As guests interact with the exotic animals and plants, they can spot and count the Easter eggs and tag @theGreenPlanetDubai in their pictures to win two VIP passes.

Adding to the festivities, on 9th April, the first 100 children to visit The Green Planet Café and say the magic words “The Echidna is here” will be handed over an Easter Egg surprise.

For some added egg-citement, The Green Planet is organizing Easter egg crafts and decorations in the café from 5th April to 9th April that will keep the young ones entertained for hours from.

As friends and families explore the indoor rainforest, they can

also say hello and take pictures with the awesome ‘Friends of The Green Planet’, the official ambassadors of the bio-dome from Monday to Friday at 2pm and 4pm, as well as weekends at 12pm, 2pm and 4pm.

The Green Planet offers a wide range of activities and animal meet and greets for guests of all ages, including tropical birds, sloths and reptiles, along with the anteater! Guests can also experience an adventure of a lifetime and become Zookeeper For the Day in an exclusive program where they will be escorted by an expert team to venture behind the scenes, visit the laboratories and understand how to nurture some of the most incredible and endangered species on the planet.

Home to over 3,000 plants and animals across four indoor rainforest levels, the city’s very own tropical rainforest is all set to host its guests to yet another fun experience with the latest addition to its rich ecosystem.

Fun facts about the echidnas:

• Echidnas are covered in fur and spines and have a distinctive snout with no teeth, and a specialized tongue which it uses to catch their insect prey at great speed.

• Echidnas can grow up to 40 cm and 7 kg and weigh between 2 kg and 5 kg.

• Echidnas are monotreme, echidnas oviparous, meaning they lay eggs similar to birds or reptiles. As a comparison, most mammals are viviparous, meaning they give live birth.

• When threatened, echidnas will curl into a ball using their spines to defend themselves.

• Termites and ants are the preferred food; however, earthworms, beetles and moth larvae are also part of the echidna’s diet.

• To survive extreme weather, echidnas burrow into the soil, hide under vegetation and shelter in hollow logs, rock crevices and in burrows.

• Echidnas play an important role in their environment by being “environment engineers.” They spend a large amount of time digging and moving soil which helps improve soil mixing and water penetration, reduces run off and erosion, and generally makes for healthier soils which leads to improved plant growth.

The next-generation Marine Life Theme Park

SeaWorld Abu Dhabi, the next-generation Marine Life Theme Park set to open its doors on May 23rd of this year, has revealed exciting details around four of its eight immersive realms. SeaWorld Abu Dhabi will take guests on a unique journey to discover the interconnectivity between life on earth and our One Ocean, with the Abu Dhabi Ocean, One Ocean, Rocky Point and MicroOcean realms telling a part of this inspiring story of commitment to conserving our planet.

Guests will begin their journey at SeaWorld Abu Dhabi in ABU DHABI OCEAN, when they see cascading waterfalls, palm trees, desert greenery, Emirati architecture and hear the sounds of regional music. The park’s education team will be on hand to share knowledge with guests, particularly around the realm’s 30 species, which are native to the UAE such as sea snakes, sea turtles and dugongs.

Here, guests can also engage with crustaceans, sharks, and

rays in the four touch pools. The legacy of the nation’s founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, is instilled all throughout this realm, reflected through his respect for the natural world and thirst for knowledge.

In Abu Dhabi Ocean, guests can also enroll in SeaWorld Abu Dhabi’s parkwide game - S·E·A Guardian Games. This interactive and free competition brings together science, exploration, and adventure in a series of fun and educational challenges across all realms. Winners are uniquely rewarded for their progress along the way, ultimately becoming S·E·A Guardians themselves and advocates for our One Ocean.

Abu Dhabi Ocean features two compelling shows in the Al Naham Theater telling enthralling stories of the rich history and fascinating waters of the Arabian Gulf. The realm is also home to the Abu Dhabi Souk, a traditional marketplace with stalls where guests can shop for keepsakes and souvenirs to remember their visit to Sea-

World Abu Dhabi. Guests can dine at Matbakh Ummi, serving authentic Emirati cuisine with a side of the Emirate’s beautiful tradition of hospitality. For eats on-the-go, guests can stop by Dallat Al Bahr for an aromatic Arabic coffee, or snack on freshly fried dough pastries from Lugaima.

Next stop is the ONE OCEAN realm, which tells many captivating stories of our ocean and acts as the park’s portal to explore all the other realms at SeaWorld Abu Dhabi. This realm’s iconic One Ocean Globe, situated in its center, represents the ever-changing flow of energy and nutrients around our planet.

Within the One Ocean realm, guests will witness One Epic Ocean, a must-see show that takes guests on a journey using immersive multi-media, a fleet of choreographed drones and spatial audio featuring a 360-degree screen standing at an approximate height of 15 meters and wrapping around the 218-meter perimeter of the One Ocean realm. story follows a young Emirati woman’s adventure with the Arabian Gulf, sparking an epic journey through the Earth’s most fascinating ocean environments and swimming side-by-side with species of all sizes; ultimately sharing the park’s core message; “we are connected to the ocean, and the ocean connects all of us”. The always-active, encapsulating media experience will also show educational modules and immersive scenes from the depths of the sea.

In between exploring the park’s realms, guests can plan their SeaWorld Expeditions by registering at the Explorer HQ to enjoy animal encounters and other unique experiences. Those hungry for a quick bite can visit Frozen Treats for everything from ultra-indulgent sundaes to multiflavored ice creams.

Also, part of this realm, guests can visit the beating heart of SeaWorld Abu Dhabi: the Animal Care Center. This stateof-the-art facility featuring cutting-edge veterinary equipment and technology provides the highest standard of animal welfare based on best practices and standards set by internationally recognized animal welfare organizations. The Animal Care Center invites guests to observe the park’s expert team of veterinarians and animal care specialists providing dedicated care to animals, ensuring their physical and emotional wellbeing through daily practices, regular check-ups, and routine procedures.

After One Ocean comes ROCKY POINT – a beautiful hidden cove where seals and sea lions can be seen resting on rocks and swimming around their stunning surroundings. The realm features state-of-theart technology such as an Advanced Animal Lighting System (AALS) that recreates night/ day and seasonal light cycles like those found in USA’S Pacific Northwest. Intricately designed to provide an enriching experience for the sea lions and seals, the dynamic habitat features various species of fish and spaces where the animals can play, hide and rest providing them with the stimulation and comfort that they need to thrive.

At the Rocky Point Amphitheater, everyone is invited to witness an incredible Sea Lion Presentation. The story features sea lions, seals and birds and follows a group of local park rangers as they share with guests the playful nature of these unique animals. Rocky Point offers an authentic boardwalk snacking experience with Pretzel Point, where guests can indulge in a variety of freshly baked warm pretzels while they take in the sights and sounds of the marvelous habitat.

From the One Ocean portal, guests can also venture into MICROOCEAN, where small is BIG!
