Fall is on its way bringing with it one very important thing, college football. Growing up in the South, football has always been a big deal. There is something about college football that makes my heart grow three sizes during the fall. I love everything about it. I love the emotion, the food, the time spent with family and friends, reminiscing the memories of past seasons and going to games with friends. I love that fall gives me the excuse to wear boots and scarves everyday. Fall wardrobe is probably my favorite because layering is so fun, and I love boots more than I should. I love coffee all year round, but I feel my appreciation for it is much larger in the fall and winter. After working a brief time as a barista last year my knowledge and affinity for coffee grew more than I ever thought it would. While I do love a delicious latte, I seek the experience from local coffee shops more and more. It is fun to discover new shops with friends. And though I dont go crazy for the pumpkin spice latte, I do get giddy over the weather and the feels that come with it. Now I will not so patiently sweat out this never ending Texas summer and raise my latte to the Georgia Bulldogs. 11

Happy fall, yall! Its still hot enough for swimming and sandals here in South Georgia, but every now and then a refreshing cool breeze will blow through with promises that fall is on its way. I spend most of September attempting to fill my home with the smell of pumpkin spice and giggling with my husband about the first day of my second year of college when I instantly fell madly in love with him. As the years roll along, I want to create memories for my own children that will make them love the autumn months as much as I do. We attempt new recipes, create gold glittery crafts, and shop for the perfect lightweight flannel shirt. Most of all, I love talking with them about what fall symbolizes for me. I explain to them that summer is fun, but its also hot. The long, sunshiny days can take everything out of us. When fall comes, its like taking a big, cozy nap. The past few months for my family have been literally like a long, hot summer day. There have been moments when we just want some relief from the sting of the heat. We are finally feeling those occasional breezes of relief. Were holding onto those little moments that remind us that summer doesnt last forever. Fall is almost here! Enjoy the beauty of this season, and embrace the cool breeze today! 15

Dawnelle is the brain and beauty behind Just Dawnelle. Creator of the most gorgeous and unique scarves. Her etsy shop is full of her beautiful creations and her blog is full of her adorable, bohemian sense of fashion and her love for interior design. She is a wife, a mom, and an incredible artist. Describe your business. Just Dawnelle creates unique, handmade, brightly colored accessories, such as scarves and dream catchers, perfect for adding a little bohemian flair and spice to your life. Home of the original serape scarf made out of traditional serape, the mix of patterns, colors, and textures is hard to beat! How did you get started? I've had a thing for textiles for years, serape being one of my very favorites. So based on that obsession and my serious thing for scarves, I had an idea one day after my second child was born. I needed a creative outlet and thought, "What the heck?" So I made a few scarves. They turned out super fun and I've slowly expanded from there. What’s behind the name? Growing up the oldest of seven children, then being married, plus having my own children there are very few things I do by myself. While I was in college, I started a small blog as an outlet for myself. I called it "Just Dawnelle" to say that it was a little something just for me! As that grew and my business got going the name kind of stuck.

18 SUNSHINE Issue No. 10

What do you love about your work? Oh goodness, for sure all the textiles, patterns, and colors I get to work with all the time. I absolutely love mixing patterns, searching for new fabulous textiles, and seeing all the new designs. Between that and all the amazing people I've been able to connect with, I couldn't ask for a better job! Owning and running a small business has brought some pretty incredible people into my life I couldn't be more grateful for! What is the most challenging part of your work? The most challenging part of my work by far is finding balance between my work life and mom life. I work from home, with two small children and one on the way. There is constant pressure to accomplish more and push myself more for my business but at the same time I want to be there to be the best mom I can for my babies. Trying to find that balance is a constant challenge. Describe your workspace/office. My studio actually is fairly new and I'm finally getting to the point now where I can make it my own. We moved across the country, New Jersey to Washington, almost two years ago. For the first year and a half, I worked in a small corner of our basement next to my children's play area. It was perfect at the time though because they could play and I could work. Over the past year, we've added an additional room which has become the perfect studio space for me. Now to get it looking fabulous!! That's the next goal...

When covering the mugs with tape make sure that the tape is pulled tight with NO ripples (unlike mine) to ensure the paint wont creep up underneath. I had to clean my line up afterwards. Hold spray can about 13-18 inches away from mug and spray in short spurts to achieve even coverage and avoid dripping. Spray the clear sealer in the same manner as above about 5 minutes after gold spray. Dont let tape sit on the mug too long after spraying (no more than 8 minutes) or the paint may peel up with the tape. Not dishwasher safe. Wash the inside by hand and lightly rinse the outside.

The Rocketboys’ sound reflects the Texas landscape from which they hail: vast, yet sparse, desolate, yet rich and abundant. Familiar lyrical themes of romance and love are often eschewed in favor of songs of brotherhood, family, life, and death in the band’s dynamic musical array, from guitar- and keyboard-rich anthems to gentle, ethereal whispers. They are going to be working on a new album early next year.

How would you describe your music? Big, epic, indie rock...not afraid to say the word pop. More towards indie. [Similar to] Arcade fire, Radiohead, or Coldplay.

When did you decide you wanted to pursue music as a career? Justin: [For about forever] I've known I wanted to play music as long as can remember. Josh: 2003. I saw "Flickerstick" at the Gypsy Tea Room.

We actually got to meet him once and play at his birthday party we thought that some one was playing a pratical joke on us.. But we changed it to just "The Rocketboys" cause the other name was really long and marqees are only so big.

How long have you known each other? 2010. Justin, Josh (bass player), and Brandon met in colloege. They moved to Austin in 2009 and met Lang and Josh. They were both in a different band at the time. Wrote and album called "Build Anway" in 2012 after our band had a hiatus and some of the guys left. We kind of had of a defining moment where we were like we don't have enough people to do it or we can go on. Luckily Josh stepped in to play drums. We decided to go on and "build anyway" which is how we got the name of the album.

Who writes the songs?

Lang: I got the bug and decided to I wanted t0 move it from a hobbie to a career.

Brandon: Everyone adds parts. Justin and [I] do a lot of the stuff lately. I write the barebones of the songs then everyone adds to it.

Where did the name come from?

Justin: It has allways been a team thing. Everyone gets their mark on it.

"Have you seen the movie October sky?” We were originally named Homer Hickam and the Rocket boys. which is the person that movie is based off of. And we still have a relationship with THE Homer Hickam to this day. One time he emailed us out of the blue and said his niece told him there was a band named after him and he wanted to tell us he thought it was cool and that we could spell his name right (we spelled it a little bit differently).

What is your favorite thing about performing? Lang: Actually performing. So much of the job has nothing to do with the hour you are performing on stage. There are all these mechanical things involed around puting on shows, so just enjoing being a musician and reconnecting with the music is the best part..

39

Josh: For me it's always challenge. Whenever you tour for a long time the band just jives and it has its fluidity. I can never turn off my brain and just auto-pilot. I always have to think about what I am doing and what my goal is...Even if we play the song 500 times I still have to think about it. So, it has always an engaging experience for me. I feel like, if I can work this hard to do somethign I love then that is like the definition of winning, hashtag winning. Brandon: Sometimes I really connect with an audience. We are engaging each other. It is what makes it really specail to me. There is an electricity that’s created and it is like we are in it together. Justin: It is kind of like a challeng because it doesn’t always happen. People expect something, we show up expecting to deliver something. When we can make it happen where those collide in a good way, it's pretty awesome.

What are your greatest challenges as a band? Justin: For every hour set that we play there are one million other things that go into it. There is money, time, and driving. I think the biggest challenge is that being in a band doesn’t only mean playing, there are million other things to be a master of. you are kind of a sales mand and a logistics person. At the end of the day it would be easy if it was only playing. It is weird that playing is only a small part of what we do. Josh: I think the biggest challenge is not letting [what Justin just said] burn you out. It's the part that really wears people down. Brandon: Getting everyone to band on time.

@therocketboys

facebook.com/therocketboys 40 SUNSHINE Issue No. 10

What keeps you inspired? Brandon: That moment of connection. Believing what we are doing is something special, and having people agree that what we are doing means something to them. Lang: If there are ever these moments of doubt, we get a tweet or email with an expression of how much our music means to that person. It always comes at just the right moment. "This is actually moving someone and we are connecting." Josh: As a drummer I can connect with a song we are playing, but the message and reason to write the words for that song doesn’t come from where I am playing.. I am just going through these steps to execute this song, to execute this set, to execute this tour. So when something like that comes through where, "this song meant this to me," that one thing we did as a group was such a big part of one person’s life.

Best piece of advice you’ve ever been given? Lang: "Cherish your friendships." There was a security gaurd that randomly told me that. Brandon: "What you take a year to build, some one can destroy in a day. Build anyway." It is part of this really long quote but it inspired the album. Justin: There is this one thing that is so geeky and weird, but I have heard this like four times now. Andrew W.K. who is a musician, published some sort of inspirational article. Basically saying, Success is defined by money so often, but being fulfilled by what your doing is a way better marker of success. Removing price points of "we are not making this money or selling out this show, or getting on this tour so we are not successful." When in fact, we are able to do what we do and enjoy it. That is the better marker of success.

12oz is simply built for the users and coffee shops. The build on the app is super simple for the user--- download the app, pick what subscription he/she wants, then go to a selected coffee shop and order free coffee. Local coffee is the new heart beat behind the cities in America. Here in Nashville when people visit, they want to go check out the local coffee shops and try different drinks etc. We love that, we feel like local coffee is almost becoming the experience that people leave with in different cities.

We are a team full of "coffee addicts" and we absolutely love the local coffee culture.

So the reason for the idea is to help the local coffee shop community and give the coffee lovers of the world a subscription to fuel that love. We reimburse every coffee to every coffee shop through the app. Meaning, every cup that the user gets through the app, we pay the coffee shop for that cup. It's an app that literally is made to be a win for all parties involved. We really feel like that local coffee drives the culture of the cities, and we just want to be apart in some way. We are based out of Nashville, so this is where we wanted to start --but we would love for it to grow across the world. We will see what happens.

Founded in 1998, Cuvée Coffee had a humble beginning as an exploratory hobby in a Dallas warehouse. Mentored by his uncle, owner Mike McKim found enjoyment in the roasting process and quickly realized that his product was in great demand. Soon, Cuvée Coffee was being credited as the pioneer of specialty coffee in Texas. Today, Cuvée is planted in the sprawling hills and dense cedar of Austin, Texas. Cuvée is widely considered one of the nations finest craft coffee companies--a label due in part to its commitment to empowering its employees and inspiring individuals. Cuvée is also trusted for its commitment to sourcing quality beans from passionate farmers and building long-term partnerships. Consumers recognize Cuvée’s bright blue packaged products and not only trust Cuvée’s dedication to excellence and focus on education, but they also enjoy Cuvée’s tenacious nature of authentic self expression. Cuvée’s current areas of focus include a state-ofthe-art roasting facility, a newly built cold coffee brewery, and a training lab for continuing education. Cuvée distributes coffee nationwide, and has a retail location in East Austin.

Coffee on TAP! written by: Kell Daniel It's a pretty crazy idea. But, so much of the time the craziest ideas are the best. Examples: Human flight. Not that anyone is equating coffee with one of the most important discoveries in the history of the world, but... I would bet my favorite mug that coffee played a contributing role in that invention. I bet the Wright brothers would have just skipped straight to the space ship if they had some Cuvee Black and Blue. Bold statement I know, but make a trip any coffee shop that knows what's good, grab yourself a nitrogenated- cold brew, and then contemplate the validity of that satement. Cuvee Coffee CEO Mike Mckim really wanted to mix it up after being in the coffee biz for a few years. Inspired by a place that had just a basic cream-and-sugar flow on tap in 2005, Mike decided to run with that... but in a much cooler way. Starting out it was a little rough. Mentioning the idea to some business owners didn't really pan out, but he stuck with it. Not really believing that no one could see the appeal. (He never asked me though!) When Cuvee really took off, Mike allowed himself to devote some serious time and research to coffee on tap. Let me just say, Coffee is weird. There's so much chemistry involved. Once, I used a different measuring spoon for my french-press, and I swear I had a completly different brew. Weird, right? Anyway, can you imagine trying to fundamentally change the way coffee is made? Mike spent quite a bit of time experimenting with different filters, temperatures, delivery methods, agitation, storage methods, and other coffee jargon stuff until he finally settled on the perfect balance.

The result: Cuvee Coffee Black and Blue nitrogenated cold brew Coffee. (It's also available in a can now. )

Here's the important part, It tastes good. If your not experienced in the ways of cold brew coffee, this stuff is really smooth and super creamy. You're gonna like it. It's not super sweet and it doesn't take sugar well (cause sugar doesnt dissolve as well in cold drinks). Most who try it for the first time think it comes with cream, because it looks really light...that is a result of the nitrogen infusion. There are some tasty alternatives to adding some sweetness. Our favorite is a pump or two of vanilla or a simple syrup. This is one of those drinks that will dissapear without Why we love all of their coffee:. you realizing it's gone. Then you get some more. It is different, it is good, and you will "All of our coffees are sourced through fair, direct relationships and represent only want to tell all of your friends about it. the highest quality coffee and sustainable farms. Our farmer-partners are committed to producing the best possible coffee, and the Cuvee team combines skill, experience, attention to detail and technology to maintain an unwavering level of quality and consistency each and every time we roast. We are committed to positively impacting the quality of life for everyone who helps bring the coffee from the plant to your cup, while also preserving the natural resources that make our quality product possible. And, we only work with suppliers and partners who share our vision. There are a number of people that play an important role in @cuveecoffee making that vision a reality."
