he Alpha Club, a group of 35 women, have been raising funds for groups/charities within the Upper Clutha area for 18 years now and to date have raised just over $63,000.

This year the Alpha Club are supporting the Wanaka Scout Group, that has on their wish list, life jackets and new tents. The Scouts, which now include girls, are enjoying a revival with waiting lists of youngsters wanting to join

Last Wednesday, at around 3pm, a male youth was riding on the back of a Toyota hatch back on Totara Terrace in Wanaka. These youths have been caught and they are currently being dealt with by the youth aid officer in Wanaka. This stunt may well have been fun at the time but it could have ended horribly if anything went wrong.

A fire officer whilst away responding to a fire related incident has had his tyre slashed on his vehicle. His car was parked outside the Luggate fire station when the tyre was slashed. A tall male with scruffy hair in his thirties wearing a vest was seen walking away from the scene when the crime was committed.

This occurred last Friday night at approximately 11 pm.

In the early hours of Saturday morning police approached an extremely intoxicated male who was lying on the pavement, near to the junction with Anderson Road and State Highway 84. When an officer spoke to him he immediately became extremely abusive so he was promptly arrested and he is looking at charges for disorderly behaviour.

A 49 year old male has been caught drink driving on Flora Dora Parade in Hawea and a 34 year old female has been caught drink driving on State Highway 84 in Wanaka. Both drivers are facing a court appearance and it is likely they will lose their licence and face a hefty fine.

Last Sunday at 6:15 pm, a waitress from the Wanaka Ale House gave chase to 3 males who did not pay for their meals and ran out from the restaurant.

The brave waitress confronted one of the males.

However he managed to evade her and ran off. The males were seen to make their way into the lobby base backpackers to hide. Police are investigating this matter and we are appealing for witnesses or information.

These males are dishonest and we are keen to place them in front of a judge.

An intoxicated young male was arrested on Sunday night for breaking into an address on Chalmers Street in Wanaka. The male smashed the window with his skateboard to gain entry. Diligent work by a member of the public led to his arrest at the scene. This is a prime example of the Wanaka public providing quality information. Without honest law abiding citizens the police would struggle to operate.

We are pleased to report that our Rugby World Cup visitors are well behaved and we have had no problems in spite of the tension generated by the quality rugby being played as we approach the quarter finals. So have a good week from the Wanaka police.
