Croquet is a game that involves fun, exercise, strategy, tactics and is enjoyed by young and old and as Wanaka Croquet Club's new season gets underway, they would love to see some new members join them. Some players enjoy it for the social elements of club play (and of course Sharen’s scones) and others play it competitively in tournaments throughout the year. It is truly a game for all reasons.

Food For Love and Bayleys Wanaka Plate Up For Love is Back!

Food For Love is excited to announce the return of its popular fundraiser, Plate Up For Love, running from 15 September to 15 October.

Now in its second year, the campaign has nearly doubled in support, with 15 local cafes and restaurants joining in to help.

Here’s how it works: order the special Plate Up For Love dish at any of the participating eateries, and a portion of your meal price will be donated to Food For Love, to support their work in providing home-cooked meals to locals in need.

Support Cameron’s Fundraising Concerts

Local swimmer Cameron Stanley has been selected for the Frozen Ferns, NZ’s national ice swimming team. He will be representing NZ at the World Championships in Molveno, Italy in January 2025.

Two local fundraising concerts will help raise money for the 15 strong kiwi team heading to the competition. Cameron will be joined in these concerts by Rakuto Kurano, an accomplished multi-instrumentalist.

Competing at the New Zealand Championships in Alexandra in July, held in water temperatures as low as 2 degrees, Cameron won the 1000m event crowning him New Zealand’s “King of the Ice.”

Ice Swimming is swimming in water of temperatures below 5°C/41°F, unassisted, with a silicone cap, pair of goggles and standard swimming costume. Wetsuits and other swim aids are not permitted – swimmers must brave

the cold alone.

Training for the event took place by swimming in the pool and in Lake Wanaka or the Clutha River daily, though at 9 - 10 degrees over winter it was almost too warm!

Performing on violin and viola with Rakuto on violin and piano they will perform a selection of di erent music. The audience will get an insight into ice swimming, and why anyone would be crazy enough to do it!
