Second Year for the Lake Hawea Community Centre’s Duck Race and Gala
The Lake Hawea Community Centre’s Duck Race and Gala Day is on again this Sunday 22nd January. Now in it’s second year, there are two parts to the day. Firstly there is a duck race down the section of the Hawea River, with the first duck over the finish line winning it’s owner $1000. The first 10 ducks, and the last duck over the line win a total prize money pool of $2750. Ducks can be purchased for $10 at Wanaka Four Square, Wanaka Mitre 10, Sailz Lake Hawea, Lake Hawea Motors, or the Lake Hawea Holiday Park.
The second part is a Family Gala Day at Peter Frazer Park, Myra St Lake Hawea starting at 11am. There will be live entertainment, including popular local artists, competitions, variety of food available, stalls, displays and entertainment for the whole familyincluding Emergency Services, Machinery displays, face painting, Bouncy Castle and much more. All funds raised from the day will go towards The Lake Hawea Community Centre Inc Building Redevelopment Project.

We continue to receive theft reports. On 12/01/2012 a new O’Niell wetsuit with short arms and legs, colour blue and black, size 12 was stolen from the boot of vehicle parked in the driveway of a property. On 12/01/2012 staff returning to work discovered a Dell laptop case and external hard drive had been stolen from commercial premises on a building site. Enquiries are continuing into the theft of signage from outside a business, the signs have been recovered and CCTV footage has identified an offender. Over night on the 13/01/2012 numerous letter boxes were smashed. On 13/01/12, a local male was arrested for breaching the liquor ban. On 14/01/2012, person/s have swum out to a boat moored on the lake setting the alarm off. Staff have been attending a number of vehicle accidents in the CBD area. On 14/01/2012 a driver has executed a u-turn, failed to see a vehicle approaching from the rear and has continued turning and crashed. Police continue to deal with intoxicated people fighting; on 14/01/2012 two males were arrested for fighting outside a shop. Also on 14/01/2012, a 17 year old female was arrested for using another person's driver's licence to gain entry to a bar and was dealt with by way of a Pre Charge warning. Her 18 year old boyfriend was later located passed out in a car park and was arrested for damaging property at the bar. Have a good safe week.
