Why not be a buddy and enrich a young person’s life?
T
he buddy programme has been enriching the lives of children aged between 4-12 years in the Otago region for over 20 years. Aiming to improve children’s lives with friendship, fun and encouragement of positive interests, attitudes, values and behaviour, the buddy programme matches each child to a carefully selected trained adult volunteer. Adult volunteers are recruited to offer a couple of hours each week to befriend and support a child on outings and activities. The children come from a variety of backgrounds and have a wide range of needs. This can include being away from extended family members, parental separation or being affected by disability or loss. We currently have a large number of children in Wanaka waiting for a buddy to support them.

19/04/2011 A theft reported at Windermere Farm near Wanaka in which a 9 seat commercial raft coloured red and orange was stolen from a container at that location, also stolen were 8 black aluminium paddles, 4 red and orange helmets and life vests. Police would like any information regarding this theft. 20/04/2011 Two 16 year old local males apprehended for drinking in a public place at Waimana Place. They were in possession of several bottles of alcohol that to date police and parents have not been able to ascertain the source of. In light of previous offending could holiday home holders please check to see if they have had any bottles of spirits stolen and if so report that offence to police. 20/04/2011 Visitors to the Alpine Resorts on Dungarvon Street reported a burglary at their holiday unit and a theft from the car parked outside, neither was secured. The handbag and purse stolen have subsequently been recovered dumped nearby, minus the cash which had been stolen. Please secure your valuables. 22/04/2011 A 19 year old male from Balclutha was arrested for wilful damage whilst visiting Wanaka. 24/04/2011 Theft of an 8 hp Mercury outboard motor reported from a Rockhaven address between 10/04 and 24/04. A message to the Wanaka Community about After Hours Medical Care
From Monday 2nd May, after hours medical care in Wanaka will be provided by the
WANAKA AFTER HOURS SERVICE This is a new arrangement between Wanaka Medical Centre and Aspiring Medical Centre which will see the doctors from both practices share a roster to provide after hours care for the whole community.
There will be NO CHANGE to the way you contact the doctor on call. If you need a doctor outside clinic hours you should phone your medical centre as usual –

Your call will be answered by a nurse triage service. They will tell you which practice is on call and refer you to the doctor as required. Weekend clinics will continue to operate and will be held at 9am and 4pm on both Saturday and Sunday. These will be provided either by Aspiring Medical Centre or by Wanaka Medical Centre, at their practice, on alternate weekends. Information will be available in The Messenger and at the practices about which practice is on call and providing the clinics for the weekend. If you have any questions or concerns about the changes please feel free to discuss them with one of the staff at your medical centre. Please note that the two practices continue to operate as completely separate entities in all aspects of their day-to-day operation.
