The Localising Food Tour is in Wanaka! Thursday 6th to Sunday 9th December

The community is invited to take part in an exciting series of events led by the legendary Permaculture and community facilitator Robina McCurdy.

This event is being facilitated locally by a passionate group of volunteers, and the cost to attend events is based on the idea of ‘pay what you can’, with prices for half day workshops being $10 to $30 and evening presentations $2 to $15. Pre-booking is preferred but not essential.

Workshops and presentations will be focused on teaching skills and discussion of food security issues to support the ‘re-localisation’ of food production in the Upper Clutha region.

What a relaxed attitude people of Wanaka have at the moment and I don't blame them. We have been busy dealing with community based issues over the last week by trying to resolve issues that have given people cause for concern, but are not generally seen as a police responsibility. Our officers constantly offer help and advice to local people on a huge range of matters, or guide them to organisations that may be able to offer the help they need. There's not much to tell you this week as far as crime goes, which can only be considered a good thing. During last Saturday night a number of letter boxes were damaged in Aeolus Place. If you have any information about this please speak with Constable Mel Twyman. I know staff at Mitre 10 have been busy with all the veg and fruit growers in the community. Unfortunately, we have been busy with a different type of 'grower' from Makarora, who has been charged with drug cultivation offences. Here is a quick reminder to all those thinking of growing cannabis. It is illegal. You will be found out and prosecuted. One male driver was caught drink driving with a reading that was over twice the legal limit. There is no excuse for this behaviour. If you see anyone intending to drive drunk, be a mate and stop them. The consequences could be devastating. With the holiday season fast approaching police and coastguard will start to receive calls about people using the lake and rivers.
