up Brown is an ordinary New Zealander who is about to embark on an extraordinary adventure in the name of friendship.

From September 1, the 38 year-old plumber from Wanaka will jog his way from Stewart Island to Cape Reinga, running 2600km in 69 days… And we’re with him every step of the way!

With a support crew in tow, Jup’s ten weeks on the road will be focussed around raising awareness and donations for the Stroke Foundation of New Zealand.

Running New Zealand sprang from a love of his home country and a desire to raise awareness of his inspirational friend Nick Chisholm, who suffered a stroke in his twenties and experienced “Locked-in Syndrome”. Then eight months into his planning for this charity run Jup’s father also suffered a stroke, which has certainly upped the ante.

MOUNT ASPIRING COLLEGE - Teacher only day Friday 9 September. The Ministry of Education has provided a teacher only day for all secondary schools across the country. The college will therefore be closed for instruction to all year levels on Friday 9 September.

The only exception to this is that all senior students taking subjects by correspondence need to be present from noon until 3.00 pm to sit their correspondence exams. Other senior students should treat this day as a study day in preparation for their mock exams the following week.

I have just returned from a four week overseas visit and think myself as very lucky to be able to live in Wanaka, which is such a safe and friendly town. I've also missed having a decent cup of coffee, so heads up Chris, Paul and Gail.

A number of incidents have happened over the past week, which I am hoping you may be able to help us with.

On September 4th, offenders forced entry into a home on Frye Crescent. They have caused damage to the interior of the house before leaving with several alcoholic drinks.

Many of you I'm sure, can empathise with the victims in this case, who have suffered a huge invasion of their privacy.

On September 4th, a snowboard was left in the drying room at the Purple Cow backpackers and was stolen during the short time it was left unattended. Take care of your property and keep a look out for any suspicious characters.

The Otago Cleaning Services reported that four toilet doors at the Dinosaur Park have been damaged. The offender has locked doors from the inside and kicked them in from the outside damaging the locks. I can not understand the behaviour of some people. If you see anyone causing any damage please contact the police straight away.

A car parked on Roche Street was walked over between 31/08-02/09. The roof was dented in this mindless act of vandalism. If you have any information about this incident please contact Constable Mel Twyman.

I have mentioned this before, but if you leave expensive jackets in bars with pockets full of money and high tech mobile phones, they are likely to get nicked. Some of our late night bars provide coat checks, please take advantage of these facilities and reduce the opportunity for the less honest people in town.

Senior Sergeant Grindell recently wrote to a newspaper outlining the many reasons why the Wanaka Police continue to robustly enforce traffic law, which includes drink driving. This week three drivers have been charged with drink driving related offences. One of the offenders crashed their car into a lamp post on the Mt Aspiring Road.

The driver provided a breath sample, which was over three times the legal limit.
