Rotary is also involved in many international projects such as providing Shelter Boxes that are used in disaster stricken countries and eradicating polio worldwide.

We regret to report a group of local people were causing a disturbance outside the HQ Bar on Friday night with a group fighting. Again! Three arrests were made, all of whom were males in their late teens, and all were Wanaka locals who refused to co-operate with Police. On Sunday a van was broken into near the Craig Burn on State Highway 6. The victim went for a swim and when they returned a passport and visa card had been taken. In total we have had 8 cars that have been broken into over the weekend in various locations around the area. We are concerned there is a prolific thief in our midst. Please lock your cars and remove all valuables. Let's make it hard for those criminals! There were 9 drivers processed for drink driving during this week, 4 of whom were locals. That’s a large number for this town. We are concerned about the high numbers of people on our roads intoxicated. Especially when the local bars are going to great lengths to provid a courtesy coach. A shoplifter has been dealt with after she stole a food item from New World. Good use of the CCTV systems has led to her apprehension. The male revealing himself to female walkers returned to the Outlet Track on Saturday morning at about 8.00am. This time he emerged from the water on to the track, revealing himself to a woman walking by herself. Please take your cell phones with you when you go walking on the tracks, not only for you own safety, but if this happens to you, you will be able to call 111 immediately. Then we will be able to attend at the time. We are pretty keen to catch up with this guy. I am pleased to report that we had few problems if any as a result of the Rippon festival. It is a true reflection of the attitude of the people attending the event. Have a good week.
