Wanaka’s iconic parkrun, nestled in the picturesque Southern Alps, is buzzing with enthusiasm, despite the shorter days and colder mornings. The free 5km event kicks o at 9am (8am summer), inviting locals and tourists alike to walk, run and volunteer in the crisp morning air without having to get up so early!
A cornerstone of the community, Wanaka parkrun owes much of its success to the people who help out each week in a wide variety of fun and easy roles, some of whom are regulars while others volunteer every now and then. Everyone is welcome to volunteer at parkrun and no experience is necessary.
What sets Wanaka parkrun apart from
other outdoor events is its inclusivity. It’s not just for seasoned runners; it’s for everyone. Whether you are eight or eighty; passing through Wanaka or a long-established local; prefer to volunteer, spectate, walk, or run, there’s a place for you at parkrun. This ethos of inclusivity, of all backgrounds and abilities, has seen record numbers flocking to the event in recent months with a peak of 245 participants!
Wanaka parkrun is a shining example of how a shared passion for tness, nature, and community can bring people together.
P.S. Hawea are interested to have parkrun - are you keen to be involved? Contact Ardouin on 021 0294 7081.

As service clubs around the world grapple with the issue of attracting members, the Rotary Club of Wānaka is defying the odds.
The club has just hit a new milestone recording a record membership after inducting four new members in March (2024).
“Our membership is now 71.” Rotary Club of Wānaka president Marie Fitchett said.
“It is an all-time high.” Marie said the thriving membership is a result of the many initiatives the club is involved in.
“People see what we do, or know a group or an individual who has bene tted from our support, or indeed know a Rotarian through
their work networks, or family, or wider social networks.” she said.
The Rotary Club of Wānaka has established several well-known community events including annual fundraisers like the Duck Race, the Book Sale, and the Winter Cropping Competition.
If you are interested in joining the Rotary Club of Wānaka contact the club’s membership manager Pat Heffernan on 021 569 890.
