Stars In Your Eyes is back! Wanaka’s longest running show will take to the stage for its 29th season from 20 to 23 September 2023 in the Lake Wanaka Centre. Yes, that is an extra show this year!

Organised by the Wanaka Musicians Society and featuring local talent, the show aims to raise funds to support music in local educational institutions. This year it has trialed a new scheme whereby one-on-one music lessons are provided to youngsters showing an aptitude for performance. The first awards have gone to three guitarists, one drummer and one pianist, all of whom have impressed their teachers.

The society also gives an annual scholarship award to a MAC music student in memory of Jamie Robertson, one of the founders of Stars. In 2023 the award went to Finn Dowling, a talented all-round

musician who went on to study Performing Arts at the University of Otago.

But Stars In Your Eyes is not just about raising money. It is an opportunity for amazingly talented local singers, dancers and musicians to put on a high quality show that is always entertaining and great fun. The identity of the stars is a closely-guarded secret until show nights, but we are able to share with you details of the show band and backing singers who will be supporting them. Da odil Day Raising Funds for Cancer Society

Flowery Friday popularly known as Da odil Day is back on 25 August. Volunteers will be stationed between 10.00am - 2.00pm outside New World Wanaka, Paperplus, New World Three Parks and the Medical Centre selling ra e tickets and little goodies. Mitre 10 ra e sale will be 31 August.

Donations can be made online, or with good old cash or using eftpos facility on the day at the stations. Money donated will stay in our area to aid the requirements of patients and facilities o ered by Cancer Society.

Cellist Heleen Du Plessis Plays At Lake Wanaka Centre

On Sunday afternoon, 27 August at 2.00pm, Heleen Du Plessis’s Cellists of Otago will perform in the Lake Wanaka Centre. This Dunedin based ensemble, directed by Dr Heleen Du Plessis, includes University of Otago cello students and Dunedin Symphony Orchestra cellists.

Joining the cello ensemble again, is renowned Soprano Rebecca Ryan who first came to international prominence when she performed the UK première of Handel’s newly rediscovered ‘Gloria’ at

London’s Royal Academy of Music.

The audience will love the variety of upbeat pieces including ‘Schindler’s List Theme’ and ‘Gospel Train’, together with Villa-Lobos’ magni cent ‘Bachianas Brasilieras’ and traditional New Zealand songs including ‘Hine e Hini’.

The sound of an ensemble of cellos is magic, and even more so, when joined by wonderful soprano, Rebecca Ryan.

The Wanaka Info Guide has been informing visitors for 32 years, it is a premium magazine distributed annually and free of charge to the guest rooms and receptions of local accommodation providers along with other reception areas of service providers in our area. It is also online at www.wanakainfoguide.co.nz This is the ‘go to guide’ of where to go, what to do, where to dine and shop when visiting our beautiful region. Include your business so visitors know who you are, what you offer and where to find you.

Remember what it is like to arrive at your destination, pour a drink or make a cup of tea and look through a room compendium to see what is available and what is happening? Now that our region is humming with visitors again, it is a great time to be involved in this comprehensive Wanaka Info Guide.

The Wanaka Info Guides will appear in the rooms before Christmas and are replenished throughout the year. We only feature Wanaka and surrounding businesses to encourage our visitors to stay and explore. The advertising rates are for a full year of advertising. The prices are less than advertising a full page or double page in local advertising publications which circulate for 1 week. This year we have had to print extra Wanaka Info Guides as their popularity has grown so much, 1600 were printed and we are almost out already.
