This year’s Wanaka A&P Show is gearing up to be the biggest yet, with record livestock and equestrian competitor numbers and trade exhibitors taking part. The 78th annual Show, held at the picturesque lakeside Wanaka Showgrounds and Pembroke Park this Friday and Saturday, is also larger than ever before – increasing the footprint by about 1500sq m to 140,000sq m. With more than 32,000 people attending last year, the Wanaka Show is the second-largest A&P show in New Zealand, after Canterbury. “The Upper Clutha A&P Society is thrilled to be able to put on what will be another outstanding Wanaka Show this weekend,” Show coordinator Jane Stalker says.
“The Society is dedicated to creating an event for the whole community – there’s fun for the
whole family and something for everyone. We pride ourselves on giving back to the community after each Show, by donating to community groups and organisations.” Last year, the not-for-profit Society gave more than $80,000 to local organisations and offers an annual scholarship to local youngsters.
New for this year is competitive wood chopping, on Saturday, plus old favourites like the Jack Russell race, the Grand Parade and The Glammies return.
Tickets are $15 per day or $20 for a two-day pass for adults. School children get free entry. Tickets can be pre-purchased at the Wanaka Show office before Thursday. Gates open at 8.30am on Friday and 8am on Saturday.
