G CLUB IN P M A R T A H T U L C R UPPE GIVE IT A GO! The Upper Clutha Tramping Club (UCTC) is based in Wanaka and was established in 2002. We are a small club with around 50 members. We have a full Summer programme from October to April and a tramp goes most weeks, either day, overnight or multi-day trips. In Winter we have a day trip on the first Saturday and third Sunday of each month from May to September. On Saturday 3rd May it is planned to have an “open” day where anyone is welcome. We aim to walk to the Meg Hut in the Cardona Valley. The Meg is a typical New Zealand back country hut. This is a walk of about 3 – 4 hours and lunch of hot soup, buns, biscuits and billy tea (or coffee) will be provided.

There is the option of staying overnight at the hut for which you will need to bring all the requisite gear and one week`s prior notice will be necessary. Everyone is welcome! Come along and meet some of our members and find out more about the club and tramping in general. The Crime Line is a useful tool to inform the community about things that are going on in our area. Wanaka Police deal with a number of incidents throughout the week that are not reported. They are either not suitable to be included in the Crime Line or a victim requests no media coverage. The majority of our time is given to keeping our communities safe and reducing the risk of people being a victim of crime. By having the opportunity to work proactively with the community this enables us to keep Wanaka and surrounds one of the safest areas in the country to live in. The Wanaka Police Facebook site has a number of items that may interest you. Please take the opportunity to look at this site, which I've been told is sadly a joke free zone. Several items of found jewellery have been handed into the station. The jewellery was inside a black branded 'Bass & Co' bag and we would like to get these items returned to the owner. Officers have investigated a number of complaints concerning dangerous driving over the past week. Please keep phoning us about these types of incidents to ensure our roads stay safe. If it is safe to do so, please video incidents of dangerous driving, which will assist us with a prosecution. Please remember when you go into a shop you have to pay for the items you want. Quite a number of people have recently forgotten this little rule, which is why they end up getting arrested for shoplifting. I know how much drivers love to receive tickets for fines averaging $150. If you prefer to spend your hard earned cash on something else please remember - wear seatbelts, don’t speed and get a hands free cell phone. A Lake Front boat operator has asked us to remind people that a no fishing zone is in force on the Wharf, the Marina and Bullock Creek. A hand line has caused issues for the local wildlife.
