The Upper Clutha Tracks Trust invites you to join us for the opening of the Hawea Flat School Track at the Hawea Flat School at 2.30pm on Friday 11th December. The Opening Ceremony formally acknowledges the years of persistence, patience and hard work involved in developing this track. Linking Lake Hawea Township with Hawea Flat, the track provides a safe off road route between the two settlements as well as better access to the Hawea Domain. The track, developed by the Upper Clutha Tracks Trust, has been funded by QLDC and the Otago Community Trust, and supported by the Hawea communities and adjoining landowners.

We have seen a number of customers who have upgraded, experienced issues, then want to roll back. This is possible but is not always 100% clean. To provide a clearing, for what is essentially a storage shed for the Rowing Club, a substantial cluster of 10 large trees would have to be cut down. These trees provide shade and shelter and along with the poplars they are an attractive feature of the area. Replacing these healthy trees with a large building, along with its associated activities, would compromise the public’s use and enjoyment of this very popular area.
