Similar fonts are frequently used on the pages of fashion magazines because they spell luxury, fashion forwardness and trendiness. Theano Didot is formal without looking old fashioned. simplicity is key Melissa’s simple yet stunning bridal gown was made out of two pieces. A gorgeous heart shaped sleeveless top with beautiful white fabric flowers on it, and a simple flowy white floor length skirt. To complement this ensemble, Melissa also wore a gorgeous gold plated belt. “My favourite part of my dress was the belt, which was actually handmade. The roses were attached to a metal belt and the entire piece was gold plated, then a talented dressmaker attached a bow with ties to the back so it could all come together. I absolutely loved it; it was my own unique piece that made my outfit different from others.”

the CEREMONY Melissa and Michael decided on a small, very intimate wedding with just 42 of their closest family and friends. The ceremony, which took place outdoors under an open air pavilion that was reminiscent of a romantic wedding chapel, was a sight to behold, especially with the Indian Ocean just a stone’s throw away. Almost every detail of the wedding in this tropical paradise was white. From the bride's elegant bouquet of white roses and the flowers used as boutonnieres, bridal party bouquets and decorations, to the chiavari chairs, delicate lace fans and more, everything was a gorgeous and sophisticated white.

the RECEPTION The reception was also held outdoors on the portico of the colonial style villa beside the pool. A long row of tables was covered with stark white tablecloths, tea light candles and glass vases brimming with white and green flowers. Gorgeous hanging chandeliers and simple white drapes completed the magical ambience. An old school photobooth using an original retro Polaroid camera was also set up, and guests took the opportunity to don celebrity masks and use cool banners and props. To end the night, there was a wedding cake that looked very much like the bride’s gown for dessert and fire dancers to entertain the guests.

My good friend took care of the wedding invites for us, from design right up to production. My aunt and family members did the flowers. Yes, we brought all the flowers with us from KL to Langkawi! We wanted the wedding to look happy and cheerful so we picked a combination of bright colours, and the outcome was just marvellous!”

the CEREMONY The couple decided to hold their wedding ceremony in the resort’s outdoor garden amphitheatre with the spectacular ocean view as a backdrop. Witnessed by 120 of their family and friends, the ceremony was a simple and touching one, especially when the couple exchanged their heartfelt vows. Both Tricia and Zhen, not to mention their guests, were so touched by each other’s vows that there were lots of happy tears all round. Having a destination wedding can be tricky, especially at a location like Phuket that is known for its alternating hot and rainy seasons. With this in mind, Tricia decided on a different look and opted for an asymmetrical wedding dress that ended at her ankles. Not only was it elegant, it was also perfect for a tropical island wedding.

ESTELITA & KENNY
CONCEPT
F
or the especially adventurous couple, a set of bridal portraits like this one will seriously wow your guests. These two really know how to make a statement. Here, their photographer,
Andry Sander of Axioo, tells us about the shoot. How long were you all there for? My wife, Laura, tagged along for the trip, and we spent almost three days in Cape Town with our clients to shoot the bridal portraits. After that, Estelita and Kenny flew on to Zimbabwe while my wife and I went to Sabi Sands for more safaris. We spent about eight days total in South Africa. Where did you take most of the photos? We divided our shoot into two locations. The first location was Ceres, a city about three hours’ drive from Cape Town. This is where we took the intimate photos with cheetahs and other wildlife. The landscape in Ceres is dry and arid, like a desert, so it had a different feel from Cape Town. The landscape in Cape Town is lush, and it was actually a little wet when we were there. We shot at the famed Table Mountain and the colourful Bo-Kaap area. How is it that you could go so close to the cheetahs? The place that we went to is an animal conservatory, and so the animals are not actually “wild”. There was a personal ranger with us the whole time, and he would give us some ground rules on interacting safely with the cheetahs. The cheetahs were very tame, and we could actually pat them and walk them around like we would walk a pet dog. Was this your first time shooting in Africa? Yes, this was my first time shooting in South Africa. It really is one of my favourite places to shoot. The scenery there is breathtaking. It is definitely a place for the wild at heart to visit, and in fact, I will be shooting there again this August.

enice is renowned for the beauty of its setting, its architecture and its artworks. Luigi Barzini once described it in The New York Times as “undoubtedly the most beautiful city built
by man. Here, we have a chat with AndroidsinBoots photographer Wilson, who shared with us his thoughts on the beautiful city. Why did the couple choose to shoot in Venice? They were visiting
many countries, and they wanted pre-wedding photos in several of them. Besides Venice, they also got local photographers to shoot them in two other countries. Which are your favourite spots in Venice? I like San Marco Square before the crowds arrive. I generally prefer the quieter, less touristy areas, places like Castello where you can see the locals doing their laundry. The back alleys there are beautiful and, most importantly, empty.
IDEAS
We love the photos you took at Hotel Danieli. Tell us a little about the hotel. The couple really loves early European interior design and decided to stay at Hotel Danieli for a night just so they could take photos there. It was a great experience as the hotel manager brought us to different sections of the hotel and also told us about how the place used to be the home of a Venetian noble family. Some claim that Venice is more romantic than Paris. Do you agree? I would think so. In Venice you can hear musicians playing in almost every restaurant. You see couples sitting on the bridges till late at night. Even a simple lunch can be romantic. PHOTOGRAPHY BY AndroidsinBoots LOCATION Around Venice and Hotel Danieli

currently live in Hong Kong but James worked and lived in Burma a few years ago, so they decided to go back and shoot there. It has a special place in their hearts. We heard that it is not easy to enter Burma, especially with camera equipment. Did you have any problems? No. Thankfully, going through customs was a smooth process. You guys achieved a lot in two days! Which was your favourite location? We travelled to two cities, Yangon and Mandalay, for the shoot. Actually I love them all so much. The wooden buildings in Mandalay especially impressed me because they are several hundred years old! How many of you were there? The couple arranged for a guide and a driver to fetch us around. On my end, I had a makeup artist travelling with me.

You have shot a lot of weddings overseas. Share with us one of the most beautiful places or countries you have ever shot in. Jia En and Fede’s wedding in Stresa, Italy, was pretty special. It was actually a simple low-key wedding; they just let the natural surroundings shine.
Jonathan Ong and the Robertsons are having a photographers’ workshop in Malaysia on 10-11 June at Janda Baik, Pahang, and 17-18 June in Penang, where they will be sharing from their hearts and equipping photographers in their passion and business. What’s one of your favourite photos and why? I don’t think I have a favourite photo, but at the moment, I really love this photo of this particular pageboy looking slightly awkward at being surrounded by the bridesmaids. It’s just a simple honest photo that makes me laugh every time I see it. Do you prefer shooting bridal portraits or actual day wedding photography? Actual day wedding photography. I think my strength lies in being able to be subtle and invisible while capturing unnoticed moments. You’re running a workshop soon. Can you tell us a bit about it? I’ve been shooting many weddings in Asia (four in the last three months), and have realised that there is a new wedding trend here. Couples
