rustic goodness Dessert tables are definitely in for 2015. They make guests happy and soften up the mood, encouraging more conversation. We teamed up with Le Méridien Kuala Lumpur for this delectable styled shoot, and we couldn’t help but design it around the Pantone Colour Of The Year, Marsala, which goes perfectly well with the rustic look. According to Chef Loh Mee Foong, Pastry Chef of Le Méridien Kuala Lumpur, the trend for dessert bars is moving towards the rustic and natural. “The selection will be more organic and healthy, and definitely less sweet,” she reveals. “You will also see the addition of savoury treats, and even comfort foods like éclairs, truffles and pies.” WWW.THEWEDDINGNOTEBOOK.COM

the dream dress Nikita found her dream dress on Pinterest, and it was only months later that she found the designer of the dress, Australian designer Anna Campbell. Delighted, Nikita paid a visit to Savvy Brides at Double Bay and tried on every Anna Campbell gown they had before finally deciding on her dress. “I loved the beautiful details at the back of the dress, and I was glad that I would be able to sit on the picnic blankets and play the lawn games without a worry! The main colours for the wedding were a gentle mix of peach, pinks and creams for the flowers, and simple cream and white dresses for the bridesmaids and flower girls, which created a soft and beautiful palette. The CEREMONY Having the ceremony outdoors at the picturesque Bella Vista Farm inspired the couple to create their own backdrop. The couple tied a large piece of gauzy white tulle to two branches and included the word ‘love’ on it. What set the backdrop apart was the way the word ‘love’ was wound with leaves and small bunches of baby’s breath. The effect was a simple yet elegant backdrop that blended seamlessly with the wooden corral fencing, shady trees and rustic charm of the farm. Wanting to keep the wedding fun, they had lawn games and picnic blankets for the guests to chill on after the ceremony.

The RECEPTION In addition to providing a lovely backdrop for the wedding, the barn was used for the reception. It was decorated with pretty lamps hanging from the ceiling, bunches of flowers in glass jars, white lace buntings, vintage suitcases, a plush ornate sofa in dark red for guests, similar individual seats for the couple, and many more gorgeous details. There was also a makeup cabinet turned dessert table in a corner, with a marvellous tiered naked cake taking centre stage. The naked cake, which is a new dessert trend for cakes that forgo the frosted outer layers so that the texture and colours of the cake are exposed, looked amazing, decorated simply with fresh flowers and strawberries.

The CEREMONY One of the most sought after venues for traditional Catholic weddings, the iconic St Ignatius Catholic Church, with its striking architecture constructed with local bluestone, served as an elegant venue for the wedding. Thanks to the several stained glass windows and beautiful interior of the church, the couple did not need to include many decorations, save for some flowers, some handmade paper pinwheels and bows. Instead, they concentrated on the solemnity of the ceremony, surrounded by their loved ones. They also shared that one of the most memorable moments during the wedding was when they sang along to “their song as they walked down the aisle together.

letterpressed lovelies Being a creative person, Vi naturally DIY-ed many items for the wedding. In fact, it even led her to purchase a 50-year-old German letterpress machine to start her own letterpress business! Going along with the theme of “trees and the four seasons”, Vi designed the laser cut invitations and created four letterpressed coasters with motifs of the four different seasons on them as gifts for each guest to symbolise “a love to last all seasons”. She also letter pressed swing tags for the wine and alcohol bottles that read “drink me”, “liquid courage” and “dancing juice” to cheekily encourage all the guests to have a great time. In addition, “I handwrote each of the 350 guests’ names in calligraphy on their place cards,” she revealed. “Needless to say, my fingers were pretty sore after that night of calligraphy.”

The RECEPTION Loving all things fine art and as regular visitors to the National Gallery of Victoria, both Vi and Christopher were thrilled to be able to have their wedding reception in The Great Hall of the Gallery. With a stunning stained glass ceiling and a gorgeous, fairytale-like carousel, this venue was elegant, breathtaking and the perfect setting for the couple’s wedding. Besides jumping onto the amazing Carousel together with their shoes off, the couple felt blessed that so many family and friends attended their wedding. Another special moment for them was when they and their guests released 100 red balloons outside the Gallery.

The CEREMONY The Wanaka Bungalow hosted 150 people a few weeks back for the wedding of Esther and Chun How. This wedding definitely wasn’t done the conventional way – the couple scrapped the cutting of the cake, the champagne toast, and even playing their childhood videos. Instead, the wonderful time they had included fun sessions where their guests got to grill them on their childhood. It was more memorable and especially beautiful when the crowd decided to sing along with the bride as she sang her rendition of ‘You’re Just Too Good To Be True’ for her new husband.

The CEREMONY This couple wanted a small and intimate garden wedding for their 50 guests. There was a whimsical touch to their garden dÊcor but they also added vintage props to maintain the venue’s colonial look and feel. There were lots of personal details including personalised thank you notes to make sure their guests felt appreciated for travelling all the way for them. The good thing about destination weddings is that you normally have at least a day or two to settle into the location. Amy, the bride, confirmed that having her best friend and Maid of Honour by her side, with the cool breeze coming through the open doors of their incredible suite at the E&O Hotel, was one of her favourite moments.

suffolk house, penang Penang is fast becoming a favourite destination wedding spot. The perfect weather and the rise of boutique and colonial spaces are attracting plenty of travellers, and it seems like a good place for wedding guests to indulge in good food, enjoy the sea breeze, appreciate the architecture, and all in all, have a great weekend. “First of all, we love Malaysia; it is our favourite place to visit in the whole world. We chose George Town because Chris’ dad grew up there, so it had a special family tie, and also because of the absolute beauty and history of it. Suffolk House and the E&O have such a beautiful heritage, colonial feel to them, giving the week such a perfectly classic and romantic feel.”

P

eople get tattoos of all kinds of things, but not everyone dares to make that same kind of commitment with marriage. We salute this groom who definitely understood what he

was entering into, and was even prepared to be reminded daily of the vows he was about to take. Who came up with the concept for the shoot? The client wanted something simple but outstanding, calm but bold, not too commercialised, and not like the regular bridal portraits offered by traditional bridal houses. They told me their idea of having their bridal portraits shot in a tattoo parlour, and the rest, as they say, is history. Why a tattoo parlour? Eu Jin, the groom, is a diehard tattoo fan while Jasmine, the bride, is a natural beauty with a strong character even though she is soft spoken. The place suited them perfectly but it wasn’t just that. The groom actually turned his fiancée’s vows into a wave graph that read ‘Yes I do’, and he decided to tattoo that onto his skin. What inspired him to do that? In his words, ‘I want to make it not just verbal but a promise that will last for a lifetime. The words “Yes I do” will remain as a seal on my skin as my vow to her.’ A vow that will be registered not just in their minds forever but also on the skin – this has got to be one of the most unforgettable moments I’ve ever shot. Eu Jin and Jasmine are one of the boldest couples I’ve met so far!

his couple decided to do a styled shoot based on their love of travelling and reading. Items were handmade and carefully styled by Papers N’ Pastels by DLS, but of course it looks so

great in photos thanks to the photographer from Daniel Lei Studio. What kind of mood were you trying to achieve with this styled shoot? The couple loves to travel and read so we merged the two together to achieve a romantic, whimsical, outdoor feel. It is always more meaningful to follow a theme that actually means something to the couple. If you look at the setup, we explored a lot of props including a paper flower bouquet and a big map hand painted on canvas that would be perfect for a photobooth or as a backdrop and much more. We used coral and mint as the main colours so it looked really sweet. The succulent planted in the book looks interesting. Where did the idea come from? We stumbled upon the idea on a blog; they even have a DIY tutorial there.
