s we’ve discovered, the right backdrop can transform an empty white studio into the perfect space for a styled
shoot. Zia Wen and Ashleigh wanted something understated and laidback, nothing too loud, to reflect their personalities. Here, the dried flowers and clever mix of textures were a beautiful contrast to the bride’s vintage bell sleeved lace dress. Kudos to Sherly from Tie The Knot for styling this so gorgeously, and to MunKeat Photography for injecting so much warmth into these studio shots.

classic sophistication With the textures and details of the venue plus the beautiful surroundings serving as the perfect backdrop, this wedding required only very simple additions. What else could this bride and groom need? Tall cacti, lush gardens, the rich, red earth, and even a camel that put in a cameo! The perfect blend of old world and the new, equal parts exotic and sophisticated, this was a fairytale come true indeed.

CEREMONY The bride and groom said “I do” in a breathtakingly lush garden, surrounded by their closest friends and family. It was an intimate ceremony of only 40 guests who even showed up in light colours, complementing the décor and venue. The white flowers and the red brick from the Berber-style buildings and arched doorways rounded everything up very nicely indeed. As Abby shared, “Our wedding reflected a clean, crisp and immaculate white theme catching the last vestiges of the Mediterranean spring, against one of the most dramatic garden backdrops in the world.”

Beldi Country Club, Marrakech Set amid 14 hectares of leafy gardens and with a view of the Atlas Mountains, the Beldi Country Club is made up of a collection of Berber-style, low-rise riads. Flanked by terraces, sitting areas and featuring wrought-iron furniture and windows, it was the ideal set-up for a dreamy “Arabian Nights” soirée. Abby: “No other venue offered the sweeping landscapes and organic versatility that we were going for. We wanted a classy and sophisticated vibe that reflected relaxed European chic, and I think our theme worked impeccably with the surroundings.”
RECEPTION After it was all sealed with a kiss, it was time to celebrate the newlyweds’ union! Keeping the dÊcor simple and cohesive with the ceremony, the floral elements at the reception were kept to a minimum while still remaining classic, allowing the venue to do all the talking. With just two lightly decorated Viking tables and transparent Napoleon chairs, the bride and groom took centrestage, and were given toasts to their new journey ahead before everyone partied the night away!

sleek white + floral Nothing says pure elegance and understated glamour like white satin, especially when it’s a wedding dress. Pair that with a sleek hairdo, dark lip, and matching bridal party outfits, and you’ve got yourself a romantic and dreamy look for your big day. Rocking a floor length veil with a train, this bride even snuck in a message on her veil: “Love above all else”. It’s subtle yet arresting, while her asymmetrical neckline ensured a classic style with her own spin on it! Along with the dried flowers, stalks of wheat and other Javanese elements, the indescribable beauty of the venue brought all of the wedding details together beautifully.

THE MARRIAGE I S A L W AY S W AY M O R E I M P O R TA N T THAN THE WEDDING.
CEREMONY For an outdoor wedding ceremony, the worst thing that could happen is if it rained! But it didn’t deter these newlyweds. They wanted to get married outdoors, and if rain had to be part of it, then it was meant to be. The showers actually added an element of moody drama to the day, making it just a touch more romantic. Flanked by the lush forest, the newlyweds exchanged their vows in the presence of their closest friends and family.

RECEPTION To celebrate the newlyweds, everyone – especially the bride – let their hair down and got the party going! From speeches to toasts and much merrymaking, the party went on outdoors under the stars, the guests dining on long picnic tables beneath dramatic overhanging floral arrangements. For décor, the couple had tapestry photographs of their engagement photos displayed around the garden. Keeping with the rustic theme, rattan, wood and straw elements were used to complement the floral touches.

white on white From the intricate French design of the chateau to the bride’s gorgeous lace and tulle dress, everything looked like this was the wedding of a princess and her Prince Charming. The elements in white, the light textures and classic patterns, the touches of gold, and of course the floral arrangements were all simply breathtaking. The venue itself was a sight to behold, with its well-groomed topiaries, stone cherub statues and checker-tiled floors – it’s almost hard to believe this is in Australia!

minimalist + vintage Keeping things minimal with sleek white colours and lush greenery made this a very classic wedding set in a very rustic space. The venue had all the elements of a vintage dream, which meant that this couple didn’t have to do much in terms of dÊcor. The exposed brick walls, wooden floors, large arched windows and high ceilings gave the space plenty of natural light while still maintaining a romantic and dreamy ambience. Decorative touches included gold piping and gilded vases, tall wheat stalks, feathers and white rose petals, all of which added dramatic flair and glamour.

Jao Tim, Petaling Street, Kuala Lumpur ‘Jao Tim’, which means ‘hotel’ in Cantonese, is one of the many new establishments cropping up in the burgeoning old neighbourhood of Chinatown in Petaling Street, Kuala Lumpur. Housed on the top floor of a pre-war colonial shop lot, its original interior has been preserved from the olden days. We really like its wooden floors, exposed brick walls, arched colonial style windows and that high ceiling, not to mention the antique brass fixings and lighting fixtures that add nostalgic touches to the space. When it’s not being a wonderful place to tie the knot, it’s also a café with live music, and there are plans to turn it into an arts space.

very time a photographer does their own bridal portraits, we know we’re in for something awesome. Jackie of Jackie Yong Photography recently wed his sweetheart Sara, and together
with Rayson Lo and Yandha Goh from Sanren Studio, the newlyweds embarked on a journey to India for their bridal portraits. Immersing themselves in the rich colours and cultures of India, the couple took their time enjoying each moment, and it shows. This set of photos is such a feast for the eyes because everything is so natural and authentic. It’s exactly the kind of bridal portraits that couples need – an adventure that they can look back on and reminisce about. Why did the couple decide to go to India? Sara and Jackie wanted to celebrate this new stage of their life together with the people of India. Where in India did you travel to, and how many days were you there? We covered Kolkata, Varanasi, Jaipur and New Delhi over 10 days, 9 nights. This memorable trip actually coincided with the Holiday Festival, a grand and holy festival celebrated by Indians all around the world.

Bows on bridal gowns take on many forms – daintily fastened around the waist, gracefully draping down the arms, or even trailing behind the bride like a train. This season’s bows are big and bold indeed. A lacy dress with a floppy bow in blush cinched at your waist is both fanciful and feminine while also creating a waistline. Meanwhile, if you are looking for something more structural, opt for a statement bow at the back of your dress for something truly chic! Few things are more romantic than poet sleeves, especially on a bride who is declaring her love for her groom. This latest season of bridal wear has given us a resurgence of this trend, and we love that these new versions come in offshoulder styles, making them sexier and more flattering. Go for Rime Arodaky’s exaggerated poufs if the 80s is your jam, or explore Vera Wang’s leg-of-mutton sleeve creation with a grunge twist in silk satin. The minimalist dress just got more dramatic with this one-shoulder design. Asymmetrical necklines look great on most body types, but are especially ideal for brides who are smaller on top and have narrow frames. We love Inbal Dror’s take on the one-shoulder top, and that fabric combination of opaque and sheer with a touch of bling is certainly befitting a Greek goddess. Alternatively, choose fulllength sleeves with a thighhigh slit for something that is both naughty and nice. VERA WANG BRIDAL / VERA WANG BRIDAL / SAREH NOURI / INBAL DROR / ALEXANDRA GRECCO
