Innovative Labelling Solutions for Hospitality

With the rise in multi-channel ordering in the hospitality industry in recent years accompanied by increasing demand for customer collection, third party delivery and legislation around accurate ingredients and allergy identification, the requirement for efficient food and beverage labelling has surged. Without a doubt, amongst the range of labelling solutions currently available, linerless labels stand out for their eco-friendly properties and operational efficiencies.

In contrast to traditional labels with a backing paper, direct thermal linerless labels are self-adhesive labels which can be applied directly to products or packaging. Such labels are supplied with varying levels of adhesion, from high adhesive permanent labels to low adhesive repositionable labels which can be applied to virtually any surface and be removed easily and reapplied without residue.

For all linerless media, a key benefit is the reduction in waste. With no backing paper to discard, linerless

media offers significant paper saving properties with more labels per roll than standard label rolls. Thanks to fewer roll changes as well as the advantage of reduced shipping costs and storage space requirements given linerless labels are more compact than traditional labels, cost savings can be achieved alongside enhanced operational efficiency and sustainability.

In terms of label size, linerless media is available in a range of widths, enabling businesses to create labels for any product type including larger labels for food deliveries to smaller, more compact beverage labels. Equally, variable length linerless labels enable the printing of shorter orders or labels with less information on minimal paper, further promoting efficiency.

As demand grows for labelling products in a variety of sectors, international POS hardware solutions provider Star Micronics has recently introduced its mC-Label3 and TSP143IVSK printers, designed to print permanent and repositionable labels, food orders, delivery and takeaway labels.

- 10CATERING EQUIPMENT

The printers respond to the growing requirement for allergy and food labelling, clear delivery and takeaway customer order labels, particularly with linerless media. Low adhesive, repositionable labels can track an order through the entire preparation process from initial order to delivery, providing the potential for greater order accuracy and efficiency.

The ability to print different sized and types of labels from one easy-to-use device including variable length food and allergy labels, nutrition information as well as food delivery labels and bag seals from web-based apps or local services is essential. The Star mC-Label3 printer offers the ideal solution thanks to its ability to print on a wide range of liner-free media including low adhesive restick labels as well as high adhesive permanent and semi-permanent labels.

In addition to a range of label printing options including fully adjustable label widths from 25mm to 80mm wide, the mC-Label3 features black mark and GAP sensors. Capable of printing traditional liner pre-sized labels, continuous label rolls and receipt paper, the printer is ideal for businesses that use a variety of media or are planning to move from traditional labelling to linerless media in the future.

Incredibly user friendly and with paper position, paper width detection and simple drop-in loading, different media can be loaded with ease and given its jam free operation reliable printing is ensured. Star’s Cloud-based free labelling app offers a wide range of pre-designed label templates, whilst the one touch label function allows for storing and printing of up to three label designs.

Alternatively, for businesses seeking a compact linerlessonly label and order printing solution the TSP143IVSK boasts optimal versatility and ergonomic design, printing on low tack linerless re-stick media from 40mm to 80mm. Moreover, the TSP143IVSK benefits from the power cable, interface cables and paper guide included at purchase as well as a 4-year warranty as standard.

In line with today’s multi-channel ordering and printing expectations in hospitality, the mC-Label3 and TSP143IVSK benefit from multiple interfaces for local PC, network, tablet and Cloud connectivity. Furthermore, both printers include Ethernet LAN and USB-C connectivity as well as direct sync and charge with supported tablets, together with hub connectivity to connect a scanner or customer display. mC-Label3 additionally features Bluetooth connectivity, whilst the printers equally benefit from a Wireless LAN option with Star’s MCW10 module. Star’s CloudPRNT™ technology is included as standard on both models for printing directly from central ordering platforms and websites.

With CloudPRNT widely used by hospitality establishments worldwide as part of an online ordering platform or e-commerce solution, Star also provides StarPrinter.Online, a fully managed service for businesses to manage the printer estate with minimal set-up time and cost as well as near zero integration. For enhanced online visibility of connectivity and print jobs over an entire printer estate, the service additionally offers device management via an online dashboard to provide an overview of all devices and activity including reliable tracking of print jobs with notification of device status changes, barcode scans, new device connections to a group, etc. Additional printers and peripherals can simply be added without the need for server upgrades, further enhancing the versatility of the service.

High-end bubble tea entrepreneur’s growth Plans already underway

The future looks bright for high-end bubble tea entrepreneur Anh Pham, with plans to expand her empire already underway.

Anh opened her first premium bubble tea room, Paeonia, in the royal borough of Windsor in October and, such has been its success, that negotiations are already underway for a second site, this time in west London, in early 2022, with plans to have five venues throughout Berkshire and the capital by the end of the year. She’s also had interest in opening a Paeonia in Paris.

She said: “Paeonia has brought a unique, high-end experience to Windsor, where customers can expect premium bubble tea inspired by the flavours of Taiwan, and my intention is to expand quickly, first in Berkshire and west London, but I would eventually like to see Paeonias all over the UK and further afield.”

Studio UNLTD unveils design of Cino Restaurant

- STUDIO UNLTD -

The interior of Cino, Honolulu is a striking convergence of maximalism, Art Deco, and contemporary styles With the opening of Cino Chophouse and Crudo Bar, Los Angeles-based Studio UNLTD celebrates the unveiling of its first design project in the Hawaiian Islands. Encompassing the interiors, facade, and patio of a 3,000 square foot restaurant with 700 square feet of outdoor space, the project is located in the ‘A’ali’i shops at the Ward Village mixed-use development, overlooking Victoria Ward Park on O’ahu, Hawaii.

As the flagship restaurant for a growing and innovative restaurant group, it was important to the client that the design be bold and transportive. Informed by a global perspective, the design team met the directive with an elevated, holistic ambience that will play a part in the group’s mission to bring meaningful change to the dining landscape in Hawaii.

where saturated colors intermingle with plush florals, animal prints, and crisp geometric shapes in unexpected ways to create a complex visual feast for the eyes. In the spirit of an eccentric artist’s apartment, the 3,000 square foot restaurant interior is composed of three distinct areas: the main cocktail bar and lounge at the entry, a dedicated raw bar, and the main dining room.

The cocktail bar is flanked by the smaller raw bar which echoes its design features, including a ribbed bar face of teal-blue tile, amazonite marble bar top, decorative brass shelving, and a slatted, baroque-inspired molding that arches over the back bar. Overhead, a hexagonal chandelier of polished brass is set in a mirrored recessed cove, casting an ambient glow over the space and creating a dramatic focal point in the room. Facing the bars are twin curvilinear banquettes in sumptuous fabric whose palette of pinks, gold, chartreuse, and claret is formed by an explosion of giant flower petals. The softness of the room is accentuated by translucent, purple drapery. Underfoot, marble-look black and white porcelain tiles are laid out in an oversized diagonal chevron pattern that weaves through, and visually links, the three spaces.

Deep mulberry is the dominant color in the main dining room, serving as the backdrop for layers of flora and fauna prints, textured upholstery, and large chromatic portraits of exotic animals. Plush velvets surround, including an ultra-feminine floral print banquette and dining chairs in saturated Kelly-green velvet. Additional accents include polished brass and highgloss table tops, layering in a touch of luxe glamour to complete the Avant Garde vibe.

Malmaison, Liverpool

- CONTRACT FURNITURE GROUP -

Nestled at the heart of Prince’s Dock in Liverpool’s buzzing historical city centre, Malmaison is a fourstar boutique hotel that since opening its doors in 2007, it has become a popular spot in the city not just for luxurious overnight stays, but also for decadent drinking and dining on the docks.

After over a decade and a half of near constant use, the hotel’s décor and furnishings were in need of rejuvenation, which is where we came in…

The overall aim of this multi-million pound refurbishment was to breathe new life into all areas of the hotel, enhancing its status to one of the finest in the city for eating, drinking and sleeping. The design vision was to create a chic environment that would reflect the city’s historical qualities and many musical artistry talents, whilst also reinforcing the brand’s continued commitment to excellence across its portfolio.

With 130 bedrooms, three suites, a bar & restaurant, a lobby, meeting & event spaces and an outdoor terrace to contend with, this was a huge project to undertake. Collaborating with Dakota House of Design, work began with the first major challenge to ensure the continued smooth running of the hotel while refurbishment works were carried out.

The Malmaison bar and restaurant were already well known and popular amongst Liverpool diners and revellers, but the owners wanted to elevate the space further to a create a bustling and busy atmosphere in both. During renovation, what once was a low lit dark area became an open and light space with a luxurious feel with industrial nods in the form of exposed brickwork and high ceilings. The open area, with views of the river, has allowed an improved flow and seamless passage for guests from the reception area to the bar and into the restaurant.

Starting in the lobby we installed both the reception desk and dome-shaped open fireplace with polished marble effect stonework, as well as a unique bespoke curved fixed seating that flowed towards the dazzling bar to guide guests through the hotel. Within the bar, the traditional Malmaison signature red and black were combined with warm tones and splashes of other bold colours throughout the design of the loose furniture and fixed seating.

Models from our range included the Ambrosia High

Chair and intimate booths, finished in a burnt orange leather and monochromatic print, matching the mosaic tiling around the bar. We also gave the bar a refresh by installing cladding with a burnt orange and gold finish.

In order to give the dining and socialising spaces a more integrated feel, we removed a partition wall that separated the restaurant from the bar, replacing it with oversized curtains. This helped produce what is now an eclectic and vibrant space, with its main feature being a huge mural reflecting Liverpool’s maritime history.

As part of the hotel’s ongoing works, the next stage was to focus on the rooms. This included the two signature suites, which consisted of king-sized beds, a lounge area and an ensuite bath. Within these rooms we designed and installed bespoke wardrobe, headboards and other case goods uniquely finished with a luxurious green velvet panelling. These suites have wonderful panoramic views of the river and are filled with comfortable lounging furniture designed for guests to rest and recharge.

Undergoing this large refit, Malmaison Liverpool now reflects not only the Malmaison brand, but also the local history and community. The bar and restaurant have been opened up and the floor plan and furniture now allow for a sense of flow that gives room to flexibly accommodate sit-down events and stand-up functions. The unique artwork, bold fabric choices, contemporary furniture, and stunning fixed seating options have transformed the space whilst also keeping its unique links to the city’s cultural and musical roots.

Skilled craftsmanship

- NEWMOR WALLCOVERINGS -

The latest collections from Newmor Wallcoverings provide endless possibilities for interior designers looking to create exceptional and distinctive spaces that stand up to the rigours of hospitality life. Each design has been inspired by what Newmor are best known for – skilled craftsmanship.

Manufactured in Wales, hoteliers and designers can select with confidence as all three new collections are available from stock. The robust fabric-backed vinyl collections are specifically designed to endure the demands of commercial spaces.

The three new stocked collections are:

Oxford: Tailored Luxury

The Oxford design pays homage to the timeless Oxford cloth, a hallmark of classic tailoring. With its basket-weave structure and lustrous aspect, this collection exudes the meticulous craftsmanship and precision synonymous with London’s Savile Row. The fabric effect design boasts a sharp and clean aesthetic, elevated by the inclusion of micas and metallics, which add a further touch of refinement.

Rose Campbell, head of design and marketing at Newmor said, “Oxford has a high-end tailored look. The colour palette is muted and elegant, featuring a broad selection of neutrals, accentuated by the rich tones of copper, moss, and indigo”.

Piazza: Urban Grandeur

Piazza captivates with sleek lines and a subtle metallic finish which glistens like the windows overlooking a bustling town square. This emboss is a masterpiece of intricate detail, capturing light from various angles.

The geometric linear pattern offers a subtle, all-over urban effect.

Rose Campbell explains, “The refined linear detail enhances the cosmopolitan vibe of this architectural inspired design. Warm and sophisticated tones with accents of steel grey, chocolate brown copper, olive and rich gold add to this understated luxury look”.

Raffia: Natural Craftsmanship

Raffia pays tribute to the time-honoured craft of raffia weaving, rooted in the rich traditions of Madagascar. This design encapsulates the essence of this ancient art form, infusing warmth and authenticity of natural craftsmanship into interior spaces. Inspired by dried raffia palm leaves, Newmor’s Raffia design blends tradition with contemporary design in a tactile matte finish enhanced by a deep woven emboss.

Rose Campbell said, “We managed to capture the beauty of this weave with an incredibly realistic and detailed emboss. Inspiration for the earthy colour palette came from the natural dying processes traditionally used on raffia. Our matte finish makes it difficult to differentiate this robust wallcovering from an original raffia weave, making it a viable option for commercial spaces embracing biophilic design”.

are dedicated to this production of very high quality bedlinen with an extra touch for a unique sleeping experience.

In addition, these processes ensure that washing is easy and especially the ironing is much faster than normal fabric.

It is important to stress that high thread count should not be the only barometer for specifying bedlinen. Thread count on its own does not convey many of the factors that comprise the end product. How the cotton is treated is a much more decisive factor and Calvidini are the premium manufacturer for top end results.

A protagonist of the Roman nightlife and an ode to elegance

MAS Architettura, in collaboration with LaiBE Architettura, introduces Nite Kong, a sophisticated nightclub with thirty seats that has quickly established itself as one of the most sought-after venues in Roman nightlife. Founded in May 2023 by an eclectic team comprising Richard Ercolani, Claudia Gianvenuti, Massimo Palmieri, Patrick Pistolesi, and Ilaria Valeri, Nite Kong later completed its elegant interior finishes at the end of 2023.

Inspired by a manifesto that celebrates the vitality of the night, with its sunset awakening and the stars dancing in the sky, Nite Kong offers a unique and exclusive experience. The venue serves as a haven for those who appreciate refined style, channeling the energy and vigor of nightlife enthusiasts.

INTERIORS

Maria Adele Savioli, the creative mind behind the project along with the LaiBE studio, explains that “the design was inspired by the vision and narrative of the owners themselves, who had a clear idea of the atmosphere they wanted to offer their customers”.

The bar counter, with its technical volume from Behind Bars, is a design masterpiece made of stainless steel, while the front of the counter, custom-designed by the architects, is covered with a three-dimensional mirrored surface. The ash wood serving counter, brushed and lacquered in open-pore black, is a distinctive feature typical of the bar counters of Drink Kong - the successful predecessor founded by the ownersranked 21st in the world for the World’s 50 Best Bars. The counter, led by renowned bartender Patrick Pistolesi, offers a drink list ranging from great classics like Manhattan and Old Fashion to “unusual classics” born from his extensive experience.

The cocktail bar, located on a surface of 120 sqm, thus offers an immersive experience through innovative design and video projections that transform the space into a suspended, timeless environment. The unique atmosphere is created by the fusion of eclipses, light, and darkness, evoking an abstraction of colors that enchants the senses. Fluid shapes, moving architectural geometries, and fragments of the Nite Kong

- 29 -

concept introduce visitors to different visual environments projected.

Nite Kong is not just a nightclub, but an immersion that extends to the architecture of the venue itself. The space is conceived as an abstract envelope, expanded by video projections curated by Studio LordZ, in collaboration with Purple Neon Lights studio and Noisevideo. Black walls and ceilings come to life through fluid shapes, hypnotic geometries, creating an enveloping visual perception. The lamps, Find Me and Light Shadow by Flos and TeTaTeT by Davide Groppi, make the atmosphere even more evocative, thanks to the lighting design project by Luci Ombre.

Attention to detail also extends to other spaces, transforming the anteroom and bathrooms into reflective and “infinite” environments. Mirrored walls alternate in a black box delimited by luminous lines, creating geometric projections that capture the imagination.

The curated design of this nightclub allows a journey through the aesthetics of the night, a tribute to elegance and beauty. A place where the passion for the night merges with the love for refinement. The eternal city has a new icon of Roman nightlife.

Sleep easy with Simba

In the world of hospitality, quality slumber isn’t just a luxury; it’s the cornerstone of glowing reviews and unwavering guest loyalty. It holds the power to shape a venue’s reputation and financial success.

Engineering the perfect night’s sleep since 2016, British sleep technology specialist Simba continues to redefine the boundaries of rest, unveiling its next chapter and launching its new cutting-edge Contract Mattress Collection, a venture set to elevate the guest experience for International business and leisure travellers alike.

A Collection Curated to Meet the Diverse Needs of Hospitality

Hailed as the ‘world’s most 5-star rated mattress brand,’ with over 250,000 five-star reviews and 60+ industry awards, Simba’s Contract Mattress range is a culmination of years of sleep research, cutting-edge technology, and an unwavering dedication to the art of slumber. The collection seamlessly blends Simba’s renowned sleep technology, comfort, and performance to create an unparalleled sleep experience.

Catering to different price points and preferences, the collection features three distinctive offerings –the Simba Pro Contract, the Simba Luxe Contract, and the Simba Green Label Contract - Simba’s most sustainable mattress yet.

This extensive offering means the sleep brand’s range of contract mattresses effortlessly adapt and cater to all types of accommodation, regardless of scale. Their roster includes a host of serviced apartments, luxury hotels and exclusive-use private rentals such as the decadent House of Gods, Deer Park Country House and the exciting new Montigo Resorts hotel opening in London soon. Their end-to-end service also ensures a seamless experience, from consultation and design to delivery, and even mattress disposal and recycling.

- 32BEDS & BEDDING

Engineered for Excellence, Crafted for Comfort

At the heart of the collection lies the awardwinning Hybrid® technology, a hallmark of Simba’s innovation - meaning guests can enjoy the Simba sleep experience; uninterrupted slumber, awakening refreshed and rejuvenated.

Simba’s exclusive technology means that their Hybrid® mattresses are comfortable for everyone, whatever their shape or how they sleep. Key to this are Simba’s incredible upper comfort layers and supportive base layers.

The upper layers feature thousands of Simba’s patented titanium alloy Aerocoil® springs; these patented, pocketed springs flex and compress individually to absorb impact as people move and in response to pressure - giving a hugged, floating sensation to suit most sizes or sleeping styles.

Simba’s Aerocoil® springs also provide localised support and weight distribution so the movements of a partner are absorbed more easily and not passed onto the other side of the bed.

Meanwhile, the base layers play a vital role in maintaining proper body alignment, offering gentler support and additional cushioning for the shoulders and lower back.

In the Pro and Luxe models the Aerocoil® springs are combined with cooling graphite-infused Simbatex® foam, which has been engineered for pitch-perfect temperature control and is infused with natural graphite that works to draw excess heat away from the body. Whilst the Green Label uses a more sustainable, graphite-infused natural latex layer in place of the Simbatex®

The result is a range of mattresses that dynamically adjust to the sleeper’s body, offering personalised support, temperature regulation, and pressure relief, all while minimising motion transfer.

Every Simba Contract mattress adheres rigorously to CRIB 5 fire regulations, ensuring both comfort and safety. The UK Fire Regulations Act of 1988 has been surpassed, allowing both hoteliers and guests to rest assured in Simba’s commitment to their well-being.

Sustainability as a Guiding Principle

In 2023, Simba became the first UK sleep brand to secure global B Corporation™ status, marking a significant step toward its ambitious goal of achieving net-zero status by 2030.

Simba is on a mission to make its products more sustainable by working towards zero-waste eco-

factories powered by renewable energy sources that adhere to ISO 14001 accreditation.

They are also constructed from 100% recyclable materials, with minimised foam content to reduce the carbon footprint. The CertiPUR® standard foam used is devoid of pollutants and toxic substances, ensuring a healthier sleep environment.

Collaboration lies at the heart of Simba’s sustainable practices. By partnering with a British manufacturer and a network of global manufacturing partners, Simba ensures that its products are produced as close to the final destination as possible, minimising the carbon footprint associated with transportation.

Simba CEO, Steve Reid, said “Through innovative technology, eco-friendly practices, and a deep understanding of guest’s sleep needs, Simba has reimagined the very essence of a hotel mattress.

“In an era where hospitality providers are constantly challenged to deliver exceptional experiences, Simba’s new contract trio not only meet but exceed these expectations. The collection epitomises the brand’s dedication to transforming sleep.

Simba’s Wholesale & Contract Lead, Keri Blunden, said “Whether you run a boutique B&B, budget hotel or luxury resort, Simba is dedicated to assisting hoteliers with a premium, socially responsible sleep solution. Our durable sustainable beds will resonate with travellers whose booking choices are increasingly influenced by their commitment to environmental values.”

Hilton Molino Stucky Venice, the five-star hotel and former flour mill on Giudecca island, is thrilled to announce 24 new suites at the hotel, due to open in April 2024. The new suites will span three categories and will enhance the existing suite inventory, resulting in the hotel offering guests an incredible 45 suites to choose from when booking their stay. The suites will be open in time for spring in Venice, arguably one of the best times of year to book a canal-side retreat.

Enhanced Suite Offering

The new suites will include four new King Molino Family Suites, nine new King Molino Executive Suites, and eleven new King Molino Executive suites with a view of Venice, meaning the total suite offering will now comprise:

- 36BEDS & BEDDING

o 4 King Molino Junior Suites

o 5 King Molino Tower Suites

o 1 Presidential Suite

o 11 King Molino Family Suites

o NEW: 4 King Molino Family Suites

o NEW: 9 King Molino Executive Suites

o NEW: 11 King Molino Executive Suites with a view of Venice

Each suite will feature a main bedroom along with a living area, with interconnecting options offering accommodation for couples, friends and families alike—and 32 of the total suites will also include a comfortable dining area.

First Look Renderings Released

This month, Hilton Molino Stucky Venice is delighted to share the first look renderings of the new suites. As the renderings show, the colour palates are calming and earthy, with creams and teals taking centre stage, to provide the ultimate sophisticated and tranquil retreat in Venice. The teal hues reflect the colours of Venice’s lagoon, which can also be seen in the breathtaking views of Venice and the Giudecca Canal from some of the new suites.

Exposed wooden beams and brushed oak floors add warmth and pay homage to the building’s

former life as a flour mill, while decadent details such as black lacquer tables by Chica and crystal chandeliers by Fortuny inject a dose of luxury. Meanwhile, bespoke ‘Toile de Venice’ Venetian fabric made by Rubelli is used for wall screens. The dreamlike teal coloured wallpaper for the new connecting rooms has been made by Inkiostro bianco.

Rubelli fabrics are also seen across the other upholstered furniture including the sofas, armchairs, curtains and cushions, along with

- 37BEDS & BEDDING

chairs, benches, headboards and bed structure upholstered in eco-leather fabric by Casamance. The furniture itself has been expertly crafted by bespoke furniture makers Status Contract and includes carbon fibre bedside tables, desks and sideboards.

References to the city of canals appear throughout; paintings by Grecale feature touches of gold resembling those found at St. Mark’s Basilica, while table and floor lamps by Italamp make use of Venetian Murano glass.

Designed by Biagio Forino

The interior design has been created by Biagio Forino, who the hotel is collaborating with again, after he designed the iconic Molino Presidential Suite in 2019, which is the highest and largest suite in all of Venice.

Sharing his inspiration and vision for the design, Biagio Forino said ‘For this project, I was inspired by the unique experiences travellers can live in Venice and the magic of the city along with the original design of this historic building. Guests will see touches of the original flour mill such as the wooden beams on the ceiling. For example, the bright colours of the Indian wool rugs and soft furnishings evoke thoughts of a handful of confetti, symbolising the many surprises and celebrations to be had in this city. Likewise, the wallpaper in the connecting rooms features a sky with clouds and a teal green dream, similar to what visitors see reflected in our lagoon.”

A native of Salerno, Biagio Forino opened his studio in Milan in 1987 and has dedicated himself to interior design ever since. An incredibly versatile designer, his numerous projects include the finest private houses to some of the world’s most prestigious hotels, creating schemes ranging from contemporary modern to classic. Forino delivers truly unique designs, working hand in hand with the client at each stage, from creating inspiring mood boards and the clever division of spaces, to the sourcing of materials and the creation of bespoke furnishings.

The Straw, The Myth, The Icon

- INTRINSIC PAPER STRAWS -

In an era where sustainability is at the forefront of global discussions, the humble paper straw has emerged as a promising solution to combat plastic pollution.

Whilst there are numerous paper straw options on the market, all made with different materials, manufacturing processes, design features and environmental considerations, the key question for a consumer is knowing which product to buy.

This article will explore the journey of Intrinsic Paper Straws, all the way from initial concept to its current status as a budding icon within the eco-conscious world of hospitality and catering supplies.

The Straw

The initial development of our paper straw began with extensive research, testing and refinement using a wide range of papers, manufacturing techniques, adhesives and inks. Our aim was to strike the delicate balance between durability, functionality and biodegradability.

As a company, Intrinsic has also invested in cuttingedge machinery capable of precise manufacturing, whilst integrating sustainable practices throughout the production process.

By combining research, technology, and a passion for environmental stewardship, Intrinsic has designed a paper straw that not only exceeds the highest standards, it also aligns with our own core values.

The Myth

Over the years, several myths and misconceptions have emerged regarding the use of paper straws. At Intrinsic, we aim to debunk these myths and shed light on the truth about paper straws.

Myth 1: Paper straws fall apart quickly in liquids.

Fact: While it’s true that paper straws do soften over time when immersed in liquid, they should not disintegrate immediately. Well, not when you use Intrinsic Paper Straws! Due to advances in our manufacturing methods, along with superior material choices and a passion to deliver the best product on the market, our paper straws can withstand prolonged use without compromising functionality.

Myth 2: Paper straws are not as eco-friendly as they claim to be.

Fact: Our high quality paper straws are made from sustainable materials (FSC-certified paper), and do not

contain any PFAS (Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances)

‘Forever’ chemicals. When compared to plastic straws, paper straws have a lower environmental footprint throughout their lifecycle. Furthermore, Intrinsic carbon offsets all of its straws through the World Land Trust.

Myth 3: Paper straws are less hygienic than plastic straws.

Fact: All our paper straws are made at our BRCGScertified factory in Telford, Shropshire. The certification confirms that our premises, plant, systems, and procedures have been independently assessed, meaning all of our products are quality assured, legally compliant, and authentic.

The Icon

Durable yet biodegradable, functional yet sustainable, Intrinsic has created a new icon within the paper straw market that embodies innovation and environmental stewardship.

With a sleek design and superior performance, our product has quickly gained popularity among various consumers, restaurants, and businesses all eager to embrace more sustainable practices.

Ciao. We are chefs who grew up in Italy. The master gelatieri of Sicily taught us the importance of real ingredients and traditional slow churning techniques. But it was the London food scene that fine-tuned our flavours.

Hackney Gelato was served in restaurants long before it was sold in shops. Every recipe we made was a unique collaboration with a top chef.

Chefs are precise and demanding. Working with them year after year honed our craft and elevated our flavours.

Our finest creations are now sold in shops and restaurants across the land.

Metropolitan Mayfair invests in top F&B talent to launch new ‘grille’ restaurant

- METROPOLITAN MAYFAIR -

Metropolitan Mayfair is delighted to launch the new ‘Grille’ restaurant with the appointment of a new Culinary Director, Tim Tolley, of Vong fame. Tolley has spent the past two decades in NYC and London at Jean-George’s Vongerichten and as Head Chef at restaurants for Sir Terence Conran’s D&D restaurant group. Tim’s appointment is part of the luxury casino’s aim to deliver an exciting dining experience in a venue that’s designed for guests to enjoy cocktails, music and entertainment.

Michael Silberling, CEO, says: “We’re quickly defining our aim to be the no.1 multi channel gaming and

hospitality brand in the UK. Having successfully launched the Metropolitan Mayfair just over a year ago, we’re continuing to invest in our F&B outlets to deliver exceptional experiences in gaming, dining and entertainment. Tim will be a huge asset to the team and play an integral role in our F&B development across all of the casinos as we continue to strive in differentiating within the entertaining environment with best in class service and high product quality. I’m delighted to welcome him to the team.”

Chef Tolley is designing a menu that features a variety of fresh seafood dishes and innovative international

cuisine. Sourcing UK produce from land to sea, the menu will feature a strong focus on ingredient led, fresh cooking, from the wild game and Penny Bun mushrooms to Cornwall’s pristine shellfish.

Tim Tolley, Culinary Director, says: “This is an incredibly exciting time at Metropolitan Mayfair and I’m proud to join an innovative group who are invested in creating a new and exciting culinary experience. I’m delighted to be joining the group, where I will bring my international experience and culinary creativity, whilst leading the talented teams across the UK casinos, to deliver exceptional menus and dining experiences.”

Paying homage to his time as Head Chef at Vong, Knightsbridge, and Spice Market in New York City, the menu highlights include his signature curry dish, which features British lamb and a homemade blend of 15 spices. The entire menu draws inspiration from spices such as cumin, sumac, coriander seeds, fresh turmeric and more subtle flavours of preserved lemon and coriander. Flatbreads and smashed burgers provide comfort food for gaming guests, and the playful lollipop chicken wings are a nostalgic nod to his New York days. Charcoal and wood fired prime steaks will round out the menu.

Chef Tolley will extend his role to oversee the F&B outlets across all eight UK casinos including; Metropolitan Mayfair, Park Lane, The Sportsman and Empire Casino.

Bringing real flavour to the table

- OTC BEVERAGES -

My brand of non alcoholic beverages was born as idea in 2017, when I attended my fathers birthday party. I felt there was a gap to be filled as the drinks tasted good, were made with minimal ingredients and had benefits associated with drinking them. I wanted to take the same products and elevate them. Create the same recipes with quality ingredients, refreshing taste and wrapped in packaging that had a premium look and feel. I realised early on that I did not want to just create a drink, I wanted to create a Brand. A brand that could make a difference and leave a legacy for my children and my nephew. I researched a manufacturer, did a course on Public food Health and passed the exam. Within three months of launching, we were shortlisted for the best drinks category at the Food Matters Event in Excel: in 2020, we were shortlisted in the Fruit Juices and Mixers category, in 2021, E2 Media Food & Beverages award and I won international Business Woman’s of the Year Award 2022.

In addition to the above, we have been included in the Mah Rainey Movie and MoBo celeb Xmas hampers in 2020.

In 2022, we attended the NOPE Event in Excel London, an event we had waited to attend for 2 years. It was a great success for us, as we were finalists in our category, Best organic Drink. the following morning one of the judges visited the stand to congratulate us on creating a great drink.

In the midst of the pandemic we launched our new flavour, Butterfly Pea Flower with Juice. The new flavour was well received and we entered the product in the Great British Food awards. The judges give a high mark of 15 as an assessment, our new flavour scored

12/15, which is a great watermark that confirms we are doing the right thing with our product development.

In 2021, we worked with an up and coming Director on a movie called ‘On the Other Foot” our beverages were used as product placement in the movie and we were recognised in the credits as a partner. We will be working with the same director on his next movie which is being filmed right now. We are so excited about these partnerships. WE have a number of events coming up in the year, one of which is us being a partner of the St James House Group Platinum Jubilee Celebrations - Strive for Perfection - with the Rolls Royce Enthusiasts Club. OTC will be featured in a commemerative book that will be issued to all the owners of Rolls Royce and Bentley’ along with all of the showrooms. We have achieved a lot in the 5 years that we have been in business and we are looking forward to gaining more customers and becoming a household brand.

Thank you for your support, as we could not do this without you.

Floc. Brewery to open new bar at Folkestone Harbour

- FLOC. -

Folkestone Harbour, the burgeoning destination foodie experience and hub for independent food and drink brands in Kent, is proud to announce that pioneering Kentish beer brand and brewery Floc. are now open in The Goods Yard.

The Goods Yard, the Harbour’s buzzing outdoor street food plaza, is home to 10 entirely independent bars and street-food kiosks. The space is anchored by a big screen that shows an ambitious programme of sports of the day (currently screening the Six Nations) as well as hosting a free summer & festive cinema season and a variety of events.

Founded in 2020, Floc. has had a meteoric rise. What started as an at-home operation of brewing 150 cans per batch has blossomed into a well-loved beer brand, known for its hoppy, hazy, flavourful beer, purchased worldwide and brewed in their beautiful taproom space in Canterbury.

- 58FOOD & DRINK

Floc. have taken on the main bar in The Goods Yard, located just next to The Harbour Screen. They are currently open at weekends only, 12pm – 4pm until the end of March.

Paulo Kingston-Correia, General Manager of Folkestone Harbour & Seafront Development Company, said:

“We’ve been watching Floc.’s impressive growth with admiration for some time. Floc. offers everything we love to see from the innovative array of independent food and drink businesses on our site. The team are ambitious, they are offering something that is high quality, something that is fresh and new, and we are confident that they will be a great addition to our site, and a real hit with our audience.

“Floc. recently announced a number of expansion plans for 2024 and we’re delighted that this new bar on the coast sits at the very centre of their exciting next chapter.”

Ross Shields, Founder of Floc. Brewing, said: “We’re thrilled to share the news that we’re embarking on a new adventure at the Goods Yard bar on the scenic Folkestone Harbour. Our ambition to join this vibrant venue, built by the Folkestone Harbour team, has now materialised, and securing a spot in such a dynamic environment is a dream come true for our small independent business.

“Our offer will include our core range of modern draft and canned beer, complemented by weekly specials

fresh from the brewery. Additionally, we’ll feature locally-produced Nightingale cider, exceptional cocktails by Black Lines, and a select wine list showcasing local and international producers.

“This marks our inaugural venture beyond Canterbury, and we extend our gratitude to the Folkestone Harbour team for their unwavering support and confidence in our vision for this space.

“We are committed to enhancing the already vibrant atmosphere of the venue and are optimistic that our selections will appeal to both the local community and visitors.”

By day, lunch and light bites can be ordered via a quick-service kiosk or via mobile app, whilst in the evening, the space transforms into an intimate and relaxed bar, with guests ordering via a QR code with table service from the team. The kiosk-style service ensures accessible prices without needing to compromise on the quality of ingredients. Guests can dine well for £20-£25 per person.

“My fondest memories of growing up in Sicily are the beach days with my family followed by aperitivo, feasting on the best catch of the day, plenty of wine and a fully loaded panino. Fish & Bubbles brings an authentic yet fresh take on the iconic Italian sandwich, using Italian fish recipes passed down through generations and adding quality ingredients into a traditional Rosetta bun for a bite like no other! There will also be fritto misto boards, homemade infused negronis and Italian wine served throughout the day and into the evening – we look forward to bringing a touch of Italian coastal culture to London.”

Unique-to-London, the “panino di mare” menu features a traditional freshly baked Italian rosetta bun generously stuffed with impeccably sourced fish and seafood fillings based on authentic dishes from Polp Fiction – slow-cooked octopus in a rustic Apulian tomato & basil sauce, fried crisps, nduja and mascarpone mayo (£16.50) – to Tuna Turner – cacio e pepe basil cream, tuna tartare, courgettes, roasted tomatoes, stracciatella and rocket (£14). Other dishes include a raft of crudi di mare such as salmon and tuna tartare as well as the caviar of shrimps, Gambero Rosso, plus a selection of fritto misto alongside creative Italian takes on poke bowls.

tashas Battersea

- WFC CONTRACTORS -

“There seems to be within all of us an innate yearning to be lifted momentarily out of our own lives into the realm of charm and make-believe.” Dorothy Draper

Tashas opened in November 2023 in the new development at Prospect Way, Battersea Power Station. As the main contractor, it was WFC’s job to bring to fruition this stunning project, the first venue in the UK for the concept that started in South Africa in 2005. Founded by Natasha Sideris, the brand is based on: beautiful stunning environments and engaging service. Tashas has a genuinely unique feel.

Interior Architect Neydine Bak, from architecture and interior studio Verhaal, worked with contemporary South African designers to create a bespoke artwork for the space; a hand-embossed paper installation from artist Elonah O’Neill, designed to move with the breeze as the restaurant door opens. When I visited the site just a week or so before the restaurant opened, the last of the 1270 artwork components on gold wires were being installed by WFC operativeswith the utmost care.

Tashas is full of stylish detail with an intricate mosaic tiled floor, polished plaster stucco walls, ceiling finishes and antiqued mirrors. Riven timber wall panelling, again creates a unique finish.

Savva Sideris, Co-Founder and Managing Director SA, said it was the best looking Tashas yet! Praise indeed for all concerned.

With a 47-year track record of delivering highquality main contractor services, the team at WFC believe that its role as a fit-out contractor is to support the objectives of its clients and their architects and designers. We have the expertise and resources to complete complex refurbishment and fit-out contracts to a high standard, working in collaboration with our clients. Our aim is to make the best use of client budgets and to complete projects on time, however challenging the time-scale. Restaurant MMC, Brutalism Over the Sea

- ZOOCO -

Zooco, winner of the Architecture Masterprize 2023 award in the “Small firm of multidisciplinary interior design” category, proudly introduces its latest completed project: The Cantabrian Maritime Museum restaurant.

Located on Severiano Ballesteros Street in Santander, Spain, the restaurant was conceived as part of an architectural complex that also includes an Oceanographic Center designed by Vicente Roig Forner and Ángel Hernández Morales, built between 1975 and 1978.

The original building consists of two square bodies connected by a canopy, with a concrete structure. The interior is distributed over three floors around a central courtyard covered by a vault of paraboloid membranes. In 2003, a renovation and extension was carried out which included the extension of the west façade and the roof of the terrace with a

- 76DESIGN & ARCHITECTURE

pyramidal aluminum structure, thus altering the initial conception of the building.

The project provides the museum with a new space on the second floor to house its restaurant and terrace. To accomplish this, the project involved the creation of a new volume that provides a solution to the pathologies present in the roof and façade of the building.

The square morphology of this volume is the result of the addition of 4 triangles that regularize and complete the paraboloids of the original building, thus directing the protagonism towards the interior to the rawness of these concrete paraboloids. In a sense, the geometry becomes a recovered element, a vestige of the past, and the protagonist of the interior of the restaurant. Treated as an artistic element, the triangular wooden false ceilings frame it.

The exterior features a glass box seeking maximum transparency (nuanced by textiles in the form of curtains, depending on the orientation), allowing expansive views of the extraordinary landscape of the Bay of Santander, lending to a feeling of being at sea.

2024 design trends for a digital world

It’s a common exercise in any sector of activity - to foresee macro-trends, understand phenomena and draw up plans to respond to those same expectations of a future that is always more innovative, challenging and non-linear. The complementary worlds of architecture, construction and design are no exception and are the forerunners of boldness and disruption of norms, an attitude that brings them closer to the frontier between the beauty of evolution and the power of change.

As one of Europe’s major players in the design and production of cutting-edge solutions for interior doors, technical doors, frames, wardrobes, panels and furniture pieces, Vicaima identifies some of the focal priorities that are already being followed by professionals in the field and whose relevance is expected to increase this year.

One point will be common to all sectors - the transformative power of artificial intelligence (AI). Whether for interior design and decoration or in construction processes and software, disruptive technologies will have an influence on the efficiency within the different phases of a project, from the generation of 3D models, integrated project management or the selection of decorative elements, enhancing the creativity and uniqueness of spaces by combining the analytical capacity of digital tools with the aesthetic and functional sensitivity of the human insight.

How can we go even further and understand what lines will shape the future of these sectors? Let’s go through, in detail, the features, concepts and movements that promise to make 2024 a transformative era.

Sustainability factors will continue to play an essential role

This year, sustainability will play a role in more than the choice of a decorative product, through elements that reflect the appreciation of local culture, proximity to communities and consideration for future generations.

In the construction sector, the inclusion of products with FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council®) certification, the organization that promotes responsible forest management, is almost a prerequisite, as specifiers seek to look beyond, sourcing and specifying products from organisations who take a more wholistic approach

to their ESG (Environment, Social and Corporate Governance) obligations.

Doors as a fundamental element of personalization

The selection of styles, tones and surfaces has risen to an archetype that promises to become the next design revolution. Today, there is a growing demand for doors with customized designs and finishes adapted to specific needs and aesthetics, a factor leveraged by AI when it comes to analyzing data, lifestyles and preferences.

In this panorama, the authenticity of the choices promises to be revealed in the choice of door finishes, developing surfaces in which texture can be the differentiating factor. Among Vicaima’s wide range of options, this creative wave is already reflected in the Dekordor® 3D range of door finishes, which stand out for their modern look and pronounced texture. In total, it offers an exquisite palette of fifteen on-trend designs, in light and dark tones.

New themed projects emerging, from hotels to homes

Rooms associated with an iconic character from a movie or an animated element from a TV series are a throwback to a nostalgic childhood, but they are freeing themselves up as inspiration for themed projects, a growing trend in which physical spaces are also a feeling. Not only in housing, but also in the hotel sector, designs evocative of literature, elements of nature or cities will be less and less uncommon. Creativity will continue to blur boundaries, driving disruption in a new dimension of interior design that is very much present in the Vicaima Infinity line.

In an era defined by A.I., the different trends indicate that emotion will not cease to exist, but will prove increasingly decisive, responding to the demand for authenticity and connection. As a whole, these are the building blocks for architecture, construction and decoration that will continue to create modern and attractive spaces with sustainability and uniqueness.

In Misha Andersen Design we create for architects, real estate developers, retailers, hospitality and art enthusiasts. We believe in change through quality and exceptional design.

Creating spaces that are adaptable, fluid and functional, uplifting and happy. Spaces that are intuitive to the natural transitions of daily life – that are sensitive to the needs of all. Cohesive, communal and creative.

Whatever we do we are interacting with spaceand because it holds the potential to transform our experience, we need to pay attention to each aspect of it.

In every project we infuse human life into the picture – into the experience. Our craft is to understand and interpret our client’s needs and then to deliver solutions that reflect those needs.

Creating environments that are inspiring, comforting and totally suitable to their functions – environments that are an invitation to experience conscious moments of awareness and joy.

Can we redesign existing space to make it not only more functional and efficient but also uplifting and transformational?

Every day we work with our clients on projects where we are layering space with texture and light – dressing them for each occasion - paying attention to the journey’s taken, to the hierarchy of emphasis.

Our joy comes from seeing a project through all phases and stages: from insights, to interpretation, to final installation.

Let’s co-create.

Supporting hospitality with experiential branded graphics

Signage plays a pivotal role in hospitality. It not only guides guests through venues but also creates a welcoming and immersive environment. At Astley, we specialise in the design, manufacture, installation and maintenance of signage and brand graphics solutions that create these environments. We work with major brands from a range of sectors, offering a concept-to-completion solution, and we have a wealth of experience in the hospitality sector.

Within the hospitality sector, there has been a rise in experiential design and the way it shapes the customer experience. As trends change and technology evolves, so do the behaviour and preferences of consumers. With the influence of social media and increased connectivity, customers are increasingly being drawn to more unique and immersive environments.

Many brands are now starting to differentiate themselves by offering something unique with the way they design and layout their property, from the reception area to the hotel restaurant. Hospitality environments have shifted from simply serving a function to providing an experience that creates a lasting impression. This can be done through narrative-driven design, creating a journey for the customer and providing an environment that can be explored.

Implementing features that add a touch of personalisation and character is enough to transform these environments from the ordinary to the extraordinary. The hotel reception, for example,

gives a fundamental first impression for guests and sets the tone for the rest of their stay. Crafting the artistic vision and detail of this space is crucial in making a stay unforgettable, and ultimately, in encouraging return visits. From vibrant murals and neon lettering, to immersive wayfinding schemes or interactive screens, these assets can create an inviting atmosphere that reflects a brand and its messaging.

Over the years, Astley has amassed an extensive portfolio of hospitality expertise. We work for brands such as Hilton Hotels and Delta as well as independent brands so we are both knowledgeable and flexible with our approach to these projects, may that be a rebrand rollout, boutique hotel, or bespoke bar venue.

Just recently, we have been shortlisted in the 2024 Sign & Wrap Awards for our work on the rollout of the Leonardo Hotel rebrand. From high-rise buildings to city centre locations, a total of 38 rebrands were completed for this rollout programme up and down the country.

An essential part of this project was the site-specific signage packs created by our in-house design team, which specify each asset required for each location. Our designers are highly experienced in working with client brand guidelines and translating these into a physical space, and we see our design work as one of our main service offerings.

Ambasciatori Hotel

Venice Mestre

- TAPESTRY COLLECTION BY HILTON -

Mestre is located about 10 km from Venice, and it is where most Venetians moved after overtourism hit their island.

Technically Mestre belongs to Venice (it’s one of the six boroughs that make up the island city) but physically they are completely different places: one on the water, Venice, and one on the mainland, Mestre.

Mestre’s history goes back to the Middle Ages, though it was always overshadowed by its powerful neighbour Venice. Unlike Venice, it had no lagoon to protect it, and the fortifications here were battled over, conquered, destroyed and rebuilt in the warring and squabbling that went on throughout mainland Italy for centuries. Even after the town was taken over by Venice in the fourteenth century, it was still at the mercy of occasional attacks from Venice’s enemies.

- 88DESIGN & ARCHITECTURE
Photos: Paolo Fusco

In the 1920s Mestre was absorbed into the Comune di Venezia, losing separate status as a town. But despite the loss of administrative autonomy, Mestre found itself becoming a focus for migrants. During the 1920s and 1930s a big port and industrial complex was developed on the shores of the lagoon at Porto Marghera, aiming to boost the local economy. Mestre, right next door, grew as workers arrived from all over Italy needing somewhere to live. The 1960s and 1970s saw a rapid growth as local Venetians opted to move over the water. Mestre was still administered from Venice, which is perhaps why there seems to have been little planning control over the ugly housing and industrial developments springing up all around town. The population grew to over 200,000. Nowadays the town has worked at creating more of an identity for itself, but to visitors it is still a brutal residential twin to neighbouring Porto Marghera, the industrial port complex which so horrifies the new arrival in Venice.

Today the population of this mainland conurbation is nearly three times that of island Venice. Basically, Mestre offered - and still offers - the kind of life many Italians want. Here they can live in modern houses or apartments, with space for their children to play. They can drive cars or go cycling. In their thousands they escaped from poky dark flats at threat from high

water and rising damp and chose the brave new world of modern Mestre. There were jobs too, working at the busy industrial docks. Nowadays in the daytime the flow is reversed: many of Venice’s workers - even her gondoliers - commute in each day from Mestre. If you are at Piazzale Roma in the early morning you’ll see them; lots of full-blooded Venetians pouring off buses into the city of their ancestors, heading along those inconvenient canals to work in hotels, souvenir shops and restaurants: to service the every-expanding tourist industry which has nearly taken over Venice.

& ARCHITECTURE
DESIGN

The concept

Mestre is historically considered a place of passage, however its exponential growth can no longer be ignored since the years of the Italian economic miracle, when it moved from a town with just over 20,000 inhabitants to today’s city of 200,000.

Mestre is no longer a shadow city of the famous Venice, but a real destination full of historical and contemporary points of interest.

In response to this shift, the client’s vision for the new Ambasciatori was to create a city hotel that’s conveniently situated near the renowned Venice, yet not confined by its influence. Collaboratively, we embraced this vision and worked on a project that embodies its distinct urban identity, reflecting the hotel’s location and family’s story.

In the 1960s, the family owned Hotel Ambasciatori became a favoured destination for numerous Italian movie and TV stars, drawn to its sophisticated and welcoming interiors.

The aim of the new interior design project for the public areas is to revive that glamour past while infusing it with a fresh, contemporary yet comfortable design.

The Lobby and bar

The initial experience of arrival should be both surprising and delightful, while also meeting the operational requirements of the hotel.

The reception and lobby bar areas, before the renovation, were merged in a large open plan space with no dedicated zones for the check-in area, lobby and bar lounge.

Both the reception and bar counter were placed sideways respect to the hotel entrance and both facing the left side of the lobby lounge, not allowing the receptionists and the bar staff to visually communicate with each other.

Creating different spaces, that could answer to different needs during the day, was pivotal for the Client along with the request to create a memorable experience for their guests.

In response to the project brief, we decided to move the reception desk in front of the hotel entrance allowing the guests to be greeted from the first moment they walk in.

The reception desk’s design draws inspiration from the building and Mestre city, featuring a linear and monolithic counter clad in Marazzi’s Breccia Capraia tile slab and surrounded by a black metal and glass screen softly lit against a fluted wood panelling to pay homage to the vibrant city landscape.

In front of the reception desk, we added a dedicated seating area in support of the check-in operations. This zone offers guests the opportunity to be welcomed while seating on the uniquely designed curved custom and armchairs, all while enjoying the collection of objects and locally sourced artifacts displayed on the bespoke shelving positioned between the desk and the seating space.

DESIGN & ARCHITECTURE

DESIGN & ARCHITECTURE

The lobby shows an exciting and energetic ambiance, boasting an elegant colour palette highlighted by vibrant blues, dark yellows, and black accents.

Positioned in the heart of the lobby, the central bar counter island offers guests the freedom to walk around and choose their seating based on individual preferences. Whether it’s unwinding with a local Spritz on the lounges adjacent to the floor-to-ceiling windows or indulging in a light meal while sending emails in the more secluded dining area behind the bar counter.

The design ensures versatile options for relaxation and productivity also thanks to the addition of a flexible meeting space, concealed behind a set of rich velvet curtains, with facilities to host 8 to 10 people.

The bar lounge features a soft curved bar counter clad with urban inspired brick style greige tiles by Marazzi.

The countertop stands out, featuring a backlit fluted timber and black metal edge that echoes the adjacent reception desk’s finishes. To enhance the architectural details of the space, we’ve incorporated black metal framing as accents around existing columns, newly added artwork, and above the bar counter, boosting the area with a distinct character.

The introduction of iconic wallpaper ‘CocktailsFornasetti design’ by Cole & Son on the main wall facing the windows, adds an element of surprise, infusing the bar lounge with an energetic and vibrant backdrop.

The restaurant

Meanwhile, the upscale restaurant on the mezzanine level offers a more serene and pared-back atmosphere. The concept for the restaurant revolves around generating a urban vibe, embracing the natural light pouring in through the glazed facade, achieved by adorning the existing windows with decorative metal and amber reeded glass screens, creating intriguing reflections. Pendant lights line the perimeter, ensuring a consistent and enchanting illumination throughout the day and night.

Inspired by the verdant trees along the Corso, the earthly colour palette includes shades of forest green, warm browns, and natural tones.

The guestroooms

The guestrooms are adorned with textile wall coverings, custom-made lighting, and refined joinery, all harmoniously celebrating the generous influx of natural light. These carefully selected natural tone materials with blue and burgundy accents come

together to recreate a serene, bright, and warm ambiance, evoking a delightful sense of place and comfort for our guests.

The wall-to-wall headboard boasts a comfortable blue chevron fabric upholstered headrest, accompanied by linear bedside tables with timber laminate tabletops and bronze metal accents. The doublelayered fabric lampshades on the custom wall lights gently modulate the artificial light, adding a soothing ambiance to the space.

A generously sized timber laminate shelf, placed under the TV, featuring soft curved edges and varying depths, offers guests valuable extra storage space. This versatile shelf doubles as a desk, accompanied by a burgundy upholstered chair. This setup serves equally well for working or functioning as a dressing table, with the added convenience of a dedicated face mirror.

Each guestroom is completed with an open wardrobe, along with a custom long mirror featuring integrated hangers. The fully renovated bathroom is equipped with a curved vanity table and a curved shape back lit mirror, enhancing both functionality and aesthetics.

The gym

The hotel features a fully renovated gym space equipped with an area for individual training with a selection of various bodyweights and the latest Technogym equipment to offer guests a smart and tailored workout experience.

Deter Dine & Dash

- CARDSSAFE -

Make sure customers don’t make off with payment. Hold their bank cards securely while they run a tab with CardsSafe.

In 2018, a Barclaycard study found that 1 in 20 customers walked out without paying their food or drink tab, and in the current climate, things need to be looking better. The hospitality industry has been plagued with dine-and-dash since the cost-of-living crisis and the pinch on everyone’s wallet. A few bad apples leaving a bar, pub or restaurant without paying can cost the venue hundreds, if not thousands of pounds every year.

The UK hospitality industry faces many challenges, with high energy costs and a staffing shortage. Bar, restaurant, and pub managers shouldn’t worry about dine-and-dash, too. The good news is that CardsSafe is a genuine deterrent for walkouts because cards are securely stored in their units. Too many dineand-dash cases are being reported, but a simple, affordable solution exists.

CardsSafe is a proven and genuine deterrent for walkouts and chargebacks. It helps staff upsell and increases trust between the venue and customers. This is why over 5000 brands utilise the system, including Young’s pubs, Hilton Hotels, Lord’s Cricket Ground, and many independent restaurants and bars.

Trond Rornes, Director of CardsSafe Ltd., told us. “We’ve experienced a significant increase in enquiries relating to dine-and-dash. Most recently, a chain restaurant business with 43 venues took on our CardsSafe system because of far too many cases of customers making off without payment. We offer a solution to a national problem.”

The wireless CardsSafe units can sit discreetly behind the bar and work alongside existing POS. In addition, the system does not capture data, so it never breaches GDPR. The tab-keeping system is straightforward to use, so it requires minimal training and helps venues and customers to ensure secure tab-keeping.

At just £9.95* + VAT per unit per month rental, CardsSafe really pays for itself.

x1 £120 dine & dash = CardsSafe unit rental cost for 1 year

CardsSafe is cost-effective – it pays for itself – just one £120 walkout or a chargeback is the cost of one unit with ten draws per year. In addition, each hire comes with customer service troubleshooting, free replacement keys, and additional units that can be added at any time.

Deborah Steel, the Director of the Deers Hut in Liphook, Hampshire, has used CardsSafe for over ten years inside and in the sizeable and hugely popular outdoor facilities. She said, “The CardsSafe system is great for servicing customers who enjoy our outside areas.”

The question is, can you afford not to have CardsSafe as a part of your business?

*Plus, new customers have a sign-up fee of £39.95 and £9.50 P&P (plus VAT).

The CardsSafe system is specifically designed to securely retain customer credit, debit and ID cards while the cardholder runs a tab or hires a product or service.

CardsSafe cost-effective technology has revolutionised how the hospitality industry manages its customer’s tabs on or off their premises. A significant deterrent for walkouts, misplacement of hotels assets and vandalism, CardsSafe also offers customers security against credit card fraud. It ensures peace of mind that their cards are secure while they enjoy the facilities.

Now trusted by over 5000 brands in the UK, including Hilton Hotels, Lord’s – the home of cricket, and over

forty UK golf resorts, including Foxhills, Silvermere and the London Golf Club, the demand for the system is increasing.

The technologically is also not hard-wired, which means it can sit discreetly behind reception or bar and be mobile to offer customers alfresco services.

Matthew, Director at Hilton Hotels, explains, “All our customers are pleased that we look after their cards in a more secure manner with CardsSafe”.

CardsSafe helps Hilton Hotels to tackle their bar tabs, and hotel amenities hires. With thousands of guests visiting daily, keeping track of customer spending and borrowing and shift changes, CardsSafe offers the ideal solution to ensure that all tabs are up-to-date, accurate and always settled.

London’s newest five-star hotel picks

Clive Sutton VIP taxis for luxury guest transportation

- CLIVE SUTTON -

London-based luxury vehicle specialist, Clive Sutton, has delivered two of its most exquisite VIP taxi conversions to the Capital’s newest five-star hotel – The Peninsula London.

Situated at 1 Grosvenor Place, in the heart of Belgravia, The Peninsula London opened last month (September 2023) with impeccably styled rooms and suites, world-class dining, and peerless hospitality. Famed for its choice of prestigious guest transportation vehicles, The Peninsula London opted for the luxury version of London’s iconic black cab, created by the team at Clive Sutton.

The Peninsula London specified the vehicles with a selection of unique and luxurious extras, most notably the bespoke exterior paintwork in the group’s signature ‘Peninsula Green’. Further exclusive elements that individualise the special guest transportation include golden Peninsula

branding on both doors, a gold coachline, and a custom central bulkhead to create an open cabin space.

Sonja Vodusek, Managing Director of The Peninsula London: “Discovering a destination in comfort and style is a key feature of The Peninsula guest experience. We’re delighted to include London’s iconic LEVC Taxi within The Peninsula London’s luxurious, liveried fleet of guest transportation. The careful conversion and detailed customisation by Clive Sutton’s team will ensure this legendary London experience feels elevated and enjoyable.”

With a view to taking guests to locations throughout the capital, the hotel specified a switchable panoramic glass roof to maximise sightseeing potential, plus a large fridge that can accommodate several bottles of champagne or wine, alongside soft drinks. The high-end guest experience continues with Rolls-Royce motorised door closure and tan-coloured Bentley leather.

Clive Sutton, founder and CEO: “As the world’s only authorised luxury conversion partner to LEVC, it is an immense honour to have our VIP taxi chosen by The Peninsula London. Our bespoke conversion of this London icon enables guests to

enjoy the ultimate British experience in five-star comfort befitting the exclusive environment at The Peninsula London.”

The two VIP taxis in the hotel’s 13-strong vehicle fleet feature seating for up to five guests. The generously upholstered rear seats offer two luxury chairs plus a central seat or arm rest with drinks holder. Against the central bulkhead, two fold-down occasional seats extend capacity to five and flank the extra-large drinks fridge. To enable the driver to interact with guests and explain the sights of London with ease, the hotel specified a bespoke bulkhead to open up the cabin, removing the privacy glass of the typical taxi design. Elsewhere in the rear cabin, guests can enjoy thick-pile carpet, colour changing ambient lighting, on-board Wi-Fi, and real wood trim.

Alex Nan, CEO of LEVC: “LEVC is proud to be part of The Peninsula London’s fleet of luxury vehicles, working alongside our approved converter Clive Sutton to create the ultimate passenger experience. Guests staying at the hotel will be able to sit back and relax, while seeing the Capital in style from LEVC’s electric TX taxi.”

The Peninsula Hotels group is famous for its appreciation of the world’s finest vehicles. ‘The Peninsula Classics – Best of the Best Award’ collates winning concours cars from top events around the globe. Through its partnership with LEVC – manufacturer of the base vehicle taxi –Clive Sutton offers ultra-luxurious conversions of the iconic London Taxi to customers worldwide. Prospective owners can explore the individualisation options and private jet-style features at Clive Sutton’s own taxi configurator at CliveSuttonLive.expivi.com. The fully interactive configurator even features Augmented Reality, which enables customers to view their own vehicle specification in their home or garage via AR features of their smartphone.

While being a fishmonger is often considered a male role in the industry, being female and achieving such high qualifications is a dream come true. I’m proud to say I’m the youngest female advanced fishmonger in the country and I’d like to thank the team at Rick Stein for their ongoing support. On a sunny day, nothing beats catching your own!”

Jack Stein, Chef Director of Rick Stein Restaurants, comments: “It’s brilliant to see Amy from our team in Padstow excelling as a young fishmonger. At just 21, we can’t wait to watch her continue learning and developing further.”

Le Méridien Ile Maurice launches two new restaurant concepts

- LE MÉRIDIEN ILE MAURICE -

Elevated Pan-Asian cuisine takes centre stage at Jade – a fine-dining destination restaurant in the heart of the resort with 70 covers. Formerly Paparazzi, the restaurant features an elegant design, informed by its precious gemstone namesake. Signature dishes include octopus curry, Singapore chilli prawns and pad thai. Teppanyaki displays as well as a variety of yakitori skewers are also available at live demonstration stations, alongside saké pairings.

Head Chef Adesta Ginting will lead the team at Jade. With over 10 years’ experience at luxury Indian Ocean hotels, Adesta joins the hotel from a tenure as Chef de Cuisine at LUX* South Ari Atoll in the Maldives. His previous experience also includes stints as Chef de Cuisine at the Hilton Labriz Resort

and Spa in the Seychelles and at the Burj Al Arab Jumeirah in Dubai.

Head Chef Tetarie Nitish is at the helm at WAVES, an 80-cover beachside brasserie which previously housed Zoli Mamzel. Nitish brings 20 years of experience to the team, having spent eight years as a Head Chef across several restaurants at Le Méridien Ile Maurice since joining the hotel in 2016. Situated with panoramic ocean views, the restaurant serves sustainably sourced seafood and a reimagined BBQ, Creole-inspired menu. Signature dishes include grilled lobster with fresh turmeric and coconut paste, red tuna carpaccio and Mauritius-style ceviche featuring palm hearts, mango and octopus.

Jade and WAVES join the other restaurants at Le Méridien Ile Maurice, as well as those at JW Marriott Mauritius Resort and The Westin Turtle Bay Resort & Spa, Mauritius in forming a new ‘Destination Dining’ proposition, where guests staying at any of the three hotels can also have access to all 14 of the properties’ dining destinations; the largest and most extensive restaurant offering in the Indian Ocean.

Adesta Ginting, Head Chef at Jade, said: “I am thrilled to take on this new challenge as Head Chef of Jade at Le Méridien Ile Maurice. It is my ambition to make Jade the go-to destination restaurant for Le Méridien guests but also those from our sister resorts JW Marriott Mauritius Resort and The Westin Turtle Bay Resort & Spa, Mauritius.

Our ‘Destination Dining’ initiative enables travellers to hop between restaurants and enjoy the very best in finedining.”

Tetari Nitish, Head Chef at Waves, said: “I am excited to be appointed Head Chef of Waves. I look forward to ensuring our menus reflect our stunning ocean surroundings, ensuring we are responsible and sustainable with our ingredient choices whilst showcasing the best in generous Mauritian hospitality to all our guests.”

- WATERBLADE -

In an interview with Nigel Bamford, director, and inventor of Waterblade, we were interested to discover that he also consults as a retrofit coordinator.

‘This work compliments my role in Waterblade perfectly. In Waterblade I am now mostly concerned with product innovation, production, and development. As a retro fit coordinator, I am responsible for ensuring that any energy retrofit measures produce the intended energy saving outcome. (British Standard PAS 2035). The complex mix of requirements for energy retrofit needs an understanding of building, retrofit, and building physics. The same mix of skills that lead to the development of the Waterblade. As a builder I developed some great methodologies for retrofit. From continuous cover Dormer construction for loft conversions (build the dormer first, then remove the roof under) to eliminating structural steels in construction projects by using box beams (any steel with a stud wall over, eliminate the steel by converting the stud wall into a box beam by screwing ply to the stud) saving money and carbon emissions.’

Waterblade is currently mostly sold as an easily implementable retrofit measure. As a standalone measure it can reduce whole building water consumption by around 5%, and energy by 1.5%. When rolled out one of a package of measures to hotel ensuites, including toilet flush devices and shower heads can produce a hole building water consumption reduction of 20%, and energy saving of 5%.

Waterblade has just finished developing an even more advanced Waterblade, with funding won from Innovate UK. The ‘Waterblade Ultra’ gives great washing and rinsing performance at even lower flow rates, and creates the possibility of additional savings because at these low flows the need to heat the water to achieve comparable comfort levels is reduced. (You heard it here first!)

‘Beautiful, Elegant and Effective’ is typically how our clients describe the Waterblade.

We think that Waterblade offers the best low-flow washing and rinsing performance there is. It is easily fitted to your existing bathroom and washroom taps, and can help you make a dent in your third biggest expense, energy. Our trials indicate that you can reduce your whole building water by around 5%. That also reduces your whole building energy consumption by around 1.5%, by using less hot water.

When fitted as a range of water saving measures, we are achieving 20% reduction in whole building water consumption, and 5% reduction in whole building energy consumption.

For a measure that takes minutes to implement and has a Return on Investment measured in Months, it must be worth considering!

Waterblade has been fitted to 10,000+ hotel bathrooms in the last year, as well as 1,000’s of washroom basins. It is WRAS approved and UK manufactured in premises with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001

SMART BOTTLING STATION

HB-1 offers a very convenient method of sterilizing the internal surfaces of bottles prior to refilling. The worktop integrated drainer can be sited anywhere for convenience of distributing bottles back into the rooms as quickly as possible. Space requirement beneath the drainer is 550mm (for the chiller carbonator and the control system (each 240mm with side fittings).

LOCATIONS: SNUG KITCHENS

With space at a premium consideration for the equipment is required. It is possible to stack the two sub sink units with the control above the chiller but a frame would be needed for this at additional cost. The benefit is that bottled water can be taken from and retried to bedrooms exceptionally quickly and of course there is no need to disposable glass bottle storage as its all recycled.

Less logistics

Fast clean and refill (30 bottles/hr)

No disposal costs of glass

Environmentally sound system with credentials for Log7 reduction in pathogens.

It’s possible to eliminate scale damage to appliances by feeding pureh2o to ice machines, steam ovens and coffee machines. The benefits of pure water feeding appliances are significant and hugely attractive to restaurants.

Ice is crystal clear and production increases by up to 15%.

Steam ovens remain spotlessly clean and food produced with pureh2o retains its colour so is quite noticeably different to veg cooked in tap water.

HYDREAUBAR HB-1

HB-1 offers something quite unique, nothing on the market can offer the sterilisation process. By comparison a standard Fill Station comprising a chiller and a Bar tap can be supplied at £2000 from PureH2O Ltd if budget doesn’t stretch to the HB-1 Branded bottles can be produced at approx. £10-12 per bottle with options of ceramic or plastic lids and seal

PUREH2O PURIFICATION

Coffee made with pureh2o is stronger and has a thicker arabica creme.

We love to install our purification systems with purifiers because we can then guarantee the purest greatest tasting water in every bottle and Purer than all Bottled water brands. Purification equipment is a two part installation

Tea made with pureh2o is beautifully clear with an amber colour not black as it is with tap water. Tea points don’t scale and there is no residue left in the cup after the drink is finished. Raymond Blanc uses our water for all the reasons noted above.

–the storage tank the larger part can be any size to suit typical demand eg. 20ltr and the purifier, the smaller component can be installed above or on a shelf and these can produce 20-30ltrs/hr and up to 60l/h in the same size system.

The idea is to balance production with storage to minimise space whilst avoiding running out of water.

Tork launches new 2 in 1 Scouring and Cleaning Cloth

- TORK -

No time to waste for restaurant staff

Restaurants are fast paced environments. The pace of a busy service and the problem of staff shortages mean that hands are few and time is precious. Restaurant staff estimate they spend 59% of their time cleaning and although kitchens are usually set up for efficient cooking, cleaning optimisation is often not integrated into workflow. In this environment, anything that makes cleaning tasks easier can be of great help.

Get stubborn messes out of the restaurant

That’s why Tork has launched the 2 in 1 Scouring and Cleaning Cloth, making light work of cleaning, even when it shouldn’t be. It combines the scouring of a sponge with the absorbency of a wiper meaning you can tackle the toughest restaurant messes with one versatile and easy-to-use product.

A more efficient and effective solution

The Tork 2 in 1 Scouring and Cleaning Cloth gives

staff one product with multiple cleaning functions, designed to be abrasive and absorbent at the same time so it can be used across kitchen and dining areas. Its flexible design means it is easy to use, so staff can clean in harder to reach places and its powerful abrasiveness can break up the hardened and encrusted messes without scratching surfaces. It can also be rinsed and reused up to 10 times, so kitchen staff can boost cleaning while cutting back on waste. Customers who have tried the cleaning cloth highlighted “the material is stronger than conventional cleaning cloths. So you could use the cloth for almost everything.” Now that’s smart, sustainable hygiene management from Tork.

Leading hotel tech specialist wraps up successful 2024 Revenue Summit in Dublin

- NET AFFINITY -

A leading provider of hotel technology, successfully concluded its second instalment of its annual summit this week — bringing together prominent figures from the hospitality sector to delve into key topics surrounding revenue management, technology integration, and industry innovation.

Net Affinity, a market leader in Ireland with a growing portfolio of hotels in the UK and internationally, welcomed 150 independent hoteliers from across the country to the Castleknock Hotel in Dublin.

In his welcoming address, William Cotter, Founder and Managing Director of Net Affinity, set the tone for the event, honing in on the ‘modern guest’, who place an importance on seamless digital journeys, suited to mobile users. One key take away was that modern guests don’t just require a stay; they desire an experience personalised to their preferences, which serves as an opportunity for hotels to increase direct bookings and profitability.

- 114EDITOR’S CHOICE

Following on from this, Lennert De Jong from Planet Payments, delivered a keynote speech discussing the Global Shopping Sentiment Report. It was unearthed that 59% of consumers prefer to use a mobile device to browse online for stay reservation ideas, and 59% of global consumers state they prefer self-check-in for speed and avoiding queues. The findings of the survey got under the skin of the modern hotel guest, providing useful consumer trends for hoteliers to make decisions about where to invest to improve the guest experience. These included speedy check-out, flexible check-in, slick technology, currency choice and simple direct booking.

A discussion panel on tech stack challenges for hoteliers was full of insights and a lot of common ground was found. There was a feeling that everyone was experiencing similar issues with fulfilling marketing opportunities along the whole guest journey and adopting technology and AI, but finding a common solution in that by systemising simple processes, hoteliers can personalise an exceptional guest experience.

Reflecting on the event, William said: “We’re thrilled to have hosted another successful Revenue Summit this year. Bringing together industry experts is crucial for driving growth and creating a forward-thinking sector. We are proud to have facilitated discussions on pressing challenges and emerging opportunities, with a focus on the role of technology in addressing them.”

Net Affinity is an industry leader in hotel technology, offering a range of products that includes its booking engine, as well as website design and digital

marketing — with a talented team of hospitality professionals always on hand. Built by hoteliers for hoteliers, the combined hospitality experience within the team encompasses more than a century. Its personable service allows hotels to easily navigate the complexities of the online world, and ultimately, increase revenue.

An elevated sense of luxury

- WARWICK HOTELS & RESORTS -

The Capital Hotel and Apartments, part of the Warwick Hotels and Resorts Group, announce the completion of the latest stage of refurbishment.

Following significant refurbishment, the Deluxe guestrooms at The Capital are now complete, revealing beautiful art-led décor. The new-look rooms boast an elevated sense of luxury for discerning guests at this five-star Knightsbridge hotel, which is owned and operated by the Warwick Hotels and Resorts Group.

Designed by London-based interior design firm, JSJ Design, the interiors were inspired by the vibrant history of Knightsbridge and the Pre-Raphaelite art movement.

There are two distinct schemes across the new Deluxe guestrooms. Both take their names and colourways directly from oil paintings by Dante Gabriel Rossetti, widely regarded as the founder of the Pre-Raphaelites.

Both schemes facilitate the bed as a natural focus, as guests enter their rooms. The upholstered headboard is inspired by the form of the windows of nearby Harrods, while the overlaid antique mirror feature above echoes the reflective floral sections in the wall panelling artist William Morris designed for the V&A café.

A member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World and Pride of Britain, The Capital is home to 73 guestrooms, including suites and apartments.

We always strive to exceed guest expectations and the level of detail and design in the Deluxe rooms certainly delivers. The rooms feel opulent and luxurious and guest feedback so far has been overwhelmingly positive.

Combining sustainability and quality: The new Tork Natural Colour hand towels and toilet paper

Quality has a new colour. With new Tork Natural colour washroom products, Tork, an Essity brand, introduces soft and efficient hand towels and toilet paper made of 100% recycled fibres. Quality and sustainability are no longer mutually exclusive; Tork Natural colour washroom products deliver a great guest experience whilst improving sustainable hygiene management.

Have you ever used the widely available brown paper towels or toilet paper? In the past they’ve not been very popular with guests, employees and other end users because they’re not very absorbent, are rough on skin, and can leave the impression of being low quality. That is changing – innovation leader Tork

shows that sustainability and quality are not mutually exclusive anymore. For the new Tork Natural colour product family, professional hygiene experts turned rough into soft and gave high quality a new colour –with soft and efficient hand towels and toilet paper made of 100% recycled fibres. The Tork Natural colour washroom range is another step towards a circular economy – whilst also responding to changes in the paper market.

Innovation: Soft and sustainable washroom products

For many years, Tork has been using high grade recycled materials for its products. But: “Recycled fibres of better and brighter qualities like office paper and newspaper have become a scarce resource.

- 122HYGIENE / CLEANING

With more people working from home and businesses shifting to more paper-free behaviours, there is less supply of recycled paper”, says Tomas Gandemo, Global Brand Innovation Manager at Tork. “We had to find alternative fibre sources to secure access to recycled fibres.” With e-commerce booming, the supply of used cardboard boxes has risen across the globe. As a result, Tork has shifted to using these recycled boxes as one of its fibre sources.

The innovation: toilet paper and hand towels from the Tork Natural colour product family are soft and have the same quality as similar Tork Advanced products. “Customers don’t have to choose between sustainability and performance anymore. The Tork Natural colour product family is a great choice for customers who want to show their environmental commitment while keeping the same high Tork quality”, says Ivette Perez Badillo, Global Brand Director Toilet Systems. “It’s a small sustainability statement, but lots of small actions add up to make a big change”, she emphasises.

What’s more, all Tork Natural colour washroom products are compatible with Tork PaperCircle –the world’s first paper hand towel recycling service. This innovative service makes it easy for businesses to participate in the circular economy, collecting and recycling used hand paper towels into new tissue products – turning waste into a resource. Tork PaperCircle helps you meet your sustainability targets by reducing waste with up to 20%2 and cut the carbon emissions for your paper hand towels by at least 40%3

Office workers and restaurant visitors appreciate sustainable products

High quality hand towels and toilet paper products in a light brown colour are an easy way to show employees, guests, and visitors that sustainability is a priority - and facility management is taking an active part in the transition to a more sustainable and circular society. User research[1] shows, that 83% of office workers and restaurant visitors agree that offering paper towels in a natural colour made from 100% recycled materials is a good way for a restaurant to show their environmental commitment. 87% like the idea of recycling single use products, like cartons to make paper towels. 85% of office workers are willing to use toilet paper in a natural colour at the office – as long as the quality is the same to what they are used to.

The new tissue by Tork is made of 100% recycled fibres. 30-50% come from used corrugated cartons, such as shipping cartons. The remaining part stems from other recycled fibre sources such as sorted

office paper. All products are FSC® and EU Ecolabel certified.

Improving business performance through sustainable hygiene management sits at the heart of the Tork brand. That’s why “more high-quality natural-coloured products will be launched in the years to come”, says Tomas Gandemo.

All Tork Natural Colour refills can be used with existing Tork dispenser systems. The washroom products included are:

• Tork Matic® Natural Hand Towel Roll

• Tork Xpress® Soft Natural Multifold Hand Towel Advanced

• Tork Natural Coreless Mid-Size Toilet Roll Advanced

• Tork Natural Mini Jumbo Toilet Roll Advanced

The full range is available to order as of January.

A HOTEL LIKE NO OTHER

In our nomadic lives we used caves for warmth, sanctuary and shelter. Caves were the original hotels; sanctums of peace for rest and recuperation, where we created art, built social bonds and defined our nature. Today a Cave Hotel is primal, authentic. A luxury escape that feels instinctively right. Not just a night’s sleep: an experience.
