The Newer Wave - A Fertile Environment (TheZineUK picture story of 2017 Part 2) Art by Will Blanchard.
The Newer Wave start emitting rays‌
May 2017 - The tale twists. Artists and audiences of fave moments have already created a 2020 vision, within a year of mis-government adding Brexit’s hostility to a nation’s Austerity-woes and “gentrification-NO”s. 2017 Part 1 of this tale ended at Abbie McCarthy’s Good Karma Club, at The Islington (in these pix). It felt like the first real summer’s day. We didn’t know that things would become like a surreal rockumentary; Passionate friends in a situationist mash up of ‘Almost Famous’ and ‘Rock Of Ages’ from then on, but at time of writing, Autumn 2018, it’s unreal under radar
June 2017
When star spotting, some of the ones to watch are the audience, a creative cottage industry of next wave media, industry, peers of every kind. As per all TheZineUK picture books so far, within six months, the energy of social collusion in hard times makes for a raised calibre of arts renaissance. June 2017 Snapshots diary by Caffy St Luce. (Massive love to all the poetic souls that let me practise photography on them).
#toriesOUT
3rd June 2017, spotting global potential, early. At Camden Rocks must-see rock band, M O S E S, bought a massive presence to The Stables Market with an outdoors acoustic set. Spring legged singer, Victor, has more energy than the Duracell bunny! They plugged in for their second festival appearance of the day at a packed out Koko where their arsenal of anthems wowed the crowd. Again. Here’s band who, with luck and justice, will one day headline venues this size.
Ahoy maties, a Love Pirate is on the high seas to the Isle Of Zone with This Feeling (a.k.a. Fun with a load of Zone Rangers at The Isle Of Wight Festival).
Watch too many great bands until too late, while getting too drunk. Ace first night. Lovely SHEAFS lads carry my heavy camping stuff but its too muddy and blurry to put up my tent. Lie down. Suddenly it’s morning and I wake up in a rock chick palace of a tent (thank you Jo and co.) in sunshine, camping next to the lovely DJ who made me do my daddy-dancing the night before, the legendary Katie O!

June 2017 article; “Isle Of Wight, the REAL Love Island” TheZineUK
Goodbye Love Island. From escapism, back to surreal “reality. The tragedy of Grenfell Tower, the farce of a general election solved by a bribe from an already unelected pry minister of her hostile Hate Island. No wonder there is an urgent energy fusing rage and love when we can escape. At the end of June 2017, CABBAGE were on tour with The Blinders and Strange Bones in London, Birmingham and Manchester. TheZineUK returned to the reality of ROCK.

As are Sisteray. They take new music’s industrious DIY energy to new levels with a hectic band schedule, but also take time to promote their peers. The UK under radar rock movements (this story, and many key gigs, included) would feel different without their articulate connecting. Fair play.

In front of the stages and behind the scenes with the music movement’s under radar EVENTS. Away from the largest stages in the country, are some of it’s biggest potential and/or most enjoyable entertainments. Much appreciation to all who help us report on some of it, with a limited budget but unlimited enthusiasm. At this point in time there are still mainstream press articles wondering where political/working class artists are, wondering if “guitar bands are dead, debating about diversity and equality.
